Reviews of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
J. D.
I was stunned. The museum is beautiful outside and inside. Great collections (with Dali's Christ on the Cross on display) and lots to see and experience. It's completely free, so make sure to go! On Sunday there is an organ recital around noon, which was also cool to see and hear.
U. D.
Small but varied art gallery. A really eclectic mix of things. The daily organ playing, the broad range of art and exhibits make this a really enjoyable place to visit. There are so many little things to see, but unlike some museums, it’s not overpowering.
A special mention should go to the cafe with stunning biscuits and short bread.
The staff were very polite.
S. M.
Great selection of art, history and culture. Museum has free entry and is a great location to learn more about the city and the history. Good selection of exhibits. Would make a great day out for kids. Allow at least 2 hours for the visit. One of the best museums in Glasgow.
R. C.
Kids absolutely loved going round all the exhibitions, amazing animals and Egyptian ones were their favourite. Kids section was fun although my kids were slightly older than what it was aimed for. Cafe was nice but not many choices for the kids, we ended up with soup and sandwiches for us and just chips for them. Service from the staff was great. Great grounds outside for walking and a play park (could be refreshed).
S.
A great way to spend a rainy afternoon - it has a good range of exhibits including a "Mackintosh" selection and history of Glasgow. Its family friendly and entry is free.
The building itself is beautiful and the inside reminiscent of "Night at the Museum".
We didn't have time to try the cafe but the toilets were nice & clean.
N. F.
Beautiful gallery with all sorts of things on display! It’s quite random and eclectic so you never get bored. Every day at 1 pm, and 3 pm on Sundays there is also a small lovely organ recital.
Worth a visit, especially since it’s free and located next to a gorgeous park!
Z.
Smaller then the usual museums of similar kind but greatly condensed to give everyone a good time. Also with its compact size you’ll won’t tire out and can check the whole place in a hour or 2.
From stuffed animals to history in pictures and art stuff like paintings old items etc… , many things to check and enjoy. Occasionally guest exhibitions and organ music makes it unique in a sense.
S. A.
I was really surprised by the variety of items on display. It really is the best of both worlds, an art gallery plus a museum.
Items from Egypt to modern times.
Look at the photos on google maps and their website to see the vast assortment of items in the museum plus fantastic selection of art work in the gallery.
At 1pm there was an organ recital, which was unexpected but well worth sitting down and listening to.
If your legs get tired, there are 2 cafes, one in the main entrance with great views of the organ, plus a larger cafe downstairs. The prices were very reasonable.
There is also a souvenir shop on the lower floor and plenty of toilets.
I went by bus as there is a bus stop right outside but there is also a car park at the rear.
A. H.
I have been coming to this museum since I was a child, I still find the stuffed animals slightly discomforting as I did when I first saw them when I was very young.
The exhibitions continue to change and evolve to make best use of the exhibits, there are always the sounds of young excited children asking questions.
There's lots to see and do and if you are lucky you can listen to the beautiful pipe organ being played at lunchtime.
The staff are always friendly and helpful.
The building itself is in beautiful condition set in a beautiful park near the University.
There is reasonably priced parking on site, a coffee shop and a cafe.
Go and see for yourself you will always see something new and learn someting interesting, it is free just as all the Glasgow museums are.
M. H.
Amazing free museum! Quite an interesting diversity that will content everybody! Loved the paintings sections and the Dali painting which is - for me - the highlight of the collection! But a lot of other pieces of art from sculptures to videos or objects; the Egyptian section really seemed to attract a lot of people! Went to it twice cause it’s huge and it’s highly advised to go during the week where the place was a lot quieter!
P. M.
A favourite of mine. Love to spend time exploring and enjoying the beautiful pieces of art. There are many wonderful items to look at. There is a very nice cafe on the lower floor (or ground floor) if arriving using the back of museum. A must see If never visited. The architecture is also amazing
P. C.
An excellent day out in Glasgow. This museum and art gallery is a must for all ages. Very good exhibitions. The cost of a visit is free but they do ask for a donation which is no hardship at all. Got the subway there which is only a 5 min walk away.
K. J.
This is a must visit if you’re in Glasgow for a short time. Beautiful museum. When I visited, there was a person performing on the organ and a lot of people were there to listen so I suggest checking their website for details. My favourite exhibition was the photography exhibition by Eric Watt who captured Glasgow between the 50s-90s. Very touching documentary/street photography at its best. If you’re here don’t miss it!
S. P.
Probably one of the best museums in Scotland, if not the best. You can really learn a lot about the Scottish history, but also about human history. The entrance is free and as long as you are going during the day you won't have any problems entering. What I really liked is that the museum is really well organized with markers for every room, so you know where you are and where you are going next. You have a lot of great areas such as the ones about Egyptian history, animal evolution, modern and Reinassance painters, modern day photography, Scottish rulers and more.
They also made the visiting process feel like an unique experience by using modern technology to display some of the art.
The museum is also really clean. Downstairs there is a gift shop with all kind of souvenirs with great prices.
If you're in Glasgow don't miss this place out.

Very interesting! I spent hours inside this museum, which has several sections, with themes focused on archeology, history, the contemporary world, art. During the visit I enjoyed an hour of listening to the organ played to the public. The Kelvingrove organ is one of the most famous in the world. For free.
M. K.
Kelvingrove gallery and museum is massive. We can spend all day here it was a wonderful, enjoyable and an educational experience. We couldn't believe it was free to the public given it's extraordinary displays of history and works of art from Scotish artists and designers.
S. D.
This is one of the must see museum in Glasgow. It is a massive museum with magnificent art pieces and sculptures. The history of war and our forefathers is education itself. I visited it during Christmas time and just outside this museum an ice skating rink was set up for winter and it was awesome.
C. S.
First time visitors to Kelvingrove Museum and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. So much to view, something for everyone. Had some lovely food in the KCcafe. Very reasonably price, efficient, friendly staff. Service with a smile even when it was busy during the lunch period.
C. N.
Think a cross between a Natural History Museum and Art Gallery. Clean facilities, clear maps and simple layout. Lots of nice stuff from Scottish History to moose bones to French Landscape art. Well worth a visit, and it's free (make a donation). Attached to some parkland by the river too, which doesn't hurt. Well located parking if that matters, but 5-10 mins from the subway too.
L.
Excellent. Really great exhibitions. A particular highlight was the Egyptian exhibition. Great place for adults and kids.
If hungry make sure and check out "the wee scullery" burger van outside in the car park. Excellent food.
C. S.
Great gallery in Glasgow, easy to get there by the subway.
Random bits of history put togheter in a gracious and interesting way!
They have a really good restaurant there, and apart from that they have free pipe organ recitals, but check theirs schedule for that.
Totally recommend, specially the Egypt part: they have some comics to explain the origin of some gods and also about the mummification.
Entrance is free!

One of the best art galleries and museums in the world. Stunning paintings and the Mackintosh display is breath taking. But everywhere you look there's gorgeous stuff. And don't miss the Dali. Its out of the world. Where else would you sea a Spitfire and a dinosaur.
G. P.
We spent hours roaming the galleries. There's so much to see and in different areas of interest. A great day out and a feast for the eyes. I was particularly interested in seeing the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Glasgow style. Although it was only one gallery, it did not disappoint. A great array of art and artifacts. The only thing I wished if for the frescoes to be hung lower so I could get a better look at the details. That would be great if you could do that for my next visit to Glasgow, thanks! Hehe 😜
The building itself is stunning with beautiful details. Even the door handles were a work of art in themselves.
The shop was well stocked with an array of goodies.

Plan your visit to the Kelvingrove Art Museum to be around an organ recital.
The museum has a variety of exhibitions to allow a little something for everyone.
The highlight for us was hearing the place filled with the music from the organist.
Give yourself a good 2 hours to take it all in and that is moving pretty fast. 3 to 4 hours of you really want to digest the information about the displays.
S. A.
A truly amazing place to visit. From painted works of art to Egyptian artefacts, taxidermy animals to photographic masterpieces - Kelvingrove is a day out you can’t miss. And it’s free, has a cafe, and on Sundays at 3pm you can hear the grand organ being played superbly.
S.
Interesting experience.
Parking available cost £5 for 3hrs.
Great cafe on site, good food but check prices if on a budget. Also a coffee shop.
Organ recital at 13:00 was top notch.
j. H.
Wonderful building and fantastic exhibits. Spent whole day here. Lunch in the cafe which was superb and really good value. Went back later in the day for coffee/tea and homemade cake.
The two shops had lovely quality goods at very reasonable prices.
Staff were very helpful and extremely friendly.
Highly recommend this for a day out
P. H.
What an amazing display of history and art! So much depth and culture in one place. In a building of stunning architecture!! The pipe organ concert was stupendous and a real treat!

The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Glasgow. It's no wonder, with its impressive collection of art and artifacts from around the world. The museum is housed in a beautiful building . The gallery has 22 themed galleries, as well as a cafe, gift shop, and a library. Whether you're an art lover or not, there's something for everyone at the Kelvingrove. The exhibits change regularly, so you can visit again and again and always see something new.
D. H.
The organ recital was fantastic. Enjoyed the exhibition on the Glasgow Boys artists. Some beautiful paintings. Also loved the exhibition on Mackintosh and the other designers around during his era. Sadly I did not have enough stamina to view the rest of the museum 😕. Will be back if ever in Glasgow again.
P. K.
Very nice museum and gallery. I enjoyed the most the organo recital, it was amazing! I also liked a lot the history of Glasgow. Anybody can come for free. Definitely recommend!
K. D.
All we EVER do when coming to Glasgow is Shop, but having booked an extra day's stay we decided to come here and O.M.G!!!What a truly amazing place this is.My mum and I had a fantastic time wandering around all the different exhibits. We liked the way it was set out so that you don't miss anything. We were also treated to an organ recital by an extremely experienced organist,bravo.👏.The strangest thing was that for all the amazing things on show, for example the metal warriors, the RAF plane and even the heads in the foyer there was 1 piece that truly captivated us...And that was the picture of the man looking out the window!!!I don't know why,but we stood for ages just staring at it.Thank you for a wonderful day.You must visit ❤
K. L. (.
Great Museum 👍 to visit if you're interested in a all rounded history. Quite a big Museum ranging from historical animals to historic weapons, paintings you name it. There will be something that will catch your eyes. The Cafe was alright so a place to chill to have before or after the walk around. Outside has plenty parking spaces at a cost and nearby parks although the area is nice but some certain local youths clearly are still stuck in their small minded minds who has never left glasgow probably which I don't blame them for that. Other than that a place to visit with family or friends
O. S.
Really enjoyed the themed galleries, the collection is really impressive. Two much to see on one visit but it's free so you can always go back.
The organ recital was cool, but I thought it was a bit of a shame that it was all pop music, I think having at least some more traditional organ music (and music specifically composed for an organ) would have been nicer.
L. H.
Big museum with plenty of diversity. They have a organ recital at 1pm ( I don’t know if it’s always or just at holiday season). It’s free for entry ( you can make a donation if wanted) I wasn’t planning to visit but I am glad that I did
M. M.
Brilliant museum. Unlucky with timing as the Dali artwork is out on loan but still more than enough to make a day out of (sadly only had an hour and a bit to zip round!). Keep an eye out for the Rembrandt and Van Gogh work as well as the spitfire, animals and weaponry of all kinds!
M. R.
Really cool museum and gallery. It's smaller than usual museums but they have enough interesting pieces and artwork including Matisse, van Gogh, Gauguin, and Monet. Plus it's free! 😊🙌🏼 Highly recommend!
M. H.
One of my favourite places to visit when I'm in Glasgow. Timed it right on my last visit to hear the organ being played. I love that you can see lots of natural history, rainforests, Chinese warriors, samurai, African history, ancient Egypt, teach the next generation about the important things that happened and should never be allowed to happen again, (holocaust, slavery and how the British Empire was built on the proceeds of slavery), and see works of art from the likes of Vincent van Gogh, Picasso and Salvador Dali alongside amazing Scottish artists and modern art, all under one roof.
B. R. S.
Oh my fùc..... Lord is amazing AMAZING Place. I spend half day today and don't even see half. Beautiful stunning place. They have 22 galleries for discover everything from art to animals, Ancient Egypt to Charles Rennie Mackintosh and so much more. Entry is free , coffee is delicious. You must go there, YOU MUST GO THERE
S. W.
One of my all-time favourite museums on this planet! Brilliant collections, well lit. Staff mostly friendly. Like many other venues in Glasgow, it does appear to be running lower in funds for maintenance side of things, but at the moment I think only regular visitors would notice this.
The cafe within does get very busy. Might be best to plan spending your breaks in the cafes and eateries nearby and head back inside afterwards.
Highly recommended.
Y. K.
Magnificent architecture, amazing interior, endless beautiful artifacts in there. You need at least half a day to visit. Free entry. Close to the university. Just perfect.
J. K.
We stayed three days in Glasgow and we came back every day as there was so much to art to see: including the interior designs of Mackintosh, the art of the Glasgow boys, The French collection, the colourists, the Dutch and the 1pm Organ recital, so glad we didn’t miss it!
Cafe provided a decent sandwich and cake and coffee plus good perch for the majestic recital. Was crowded by 1230 so plan well!
L. A.
Fantastic museum. A real gem of Glasgow 💗💗 so much to see and do. A real beautiful building with so many exhibitions and so much to see. You can easily get lost in here. Set aside the day for this so you're not rushed. If you're in Glasgow for the day, 100% come here :)
D. C.
Favourite building in Glasgow since living there in the 80s and visiting regularly since. Although at our recent visit I encountered ironic Glaswegian humour when we arrived just 20 minutes before closing. I asked a member of staff where we could see the Dali picture Christ of St John of the Cross. He replied, "Barnard Castle!" I eventually realised that he wasn't joking - as it was out on loan.
S. M.
Beautiful building, amazing collection. Each painting is very detailed about the artist, dates and short analysis. Very well organized, maintained. Had a fantastic family day out.
M. L.
Nice museum, only came here for a short visit as the museum was closing at 5pm so we didn’t get to explore the entire museum. The animal section we did see was really cool. Need to come back again to see the entire museum properly.
A. k.
Amazing detailing... The Museum is sectioned covering different types of historical information... History of Glasgow, History of Scotland in General...It does have a cafe in Basement... Toilets available at each floor and corners...
J. N.
Am visiting from the United States. Spent an afternoon here. Great museum. The architecture inside and out is beautiful.
A variety of displays including natural history, Ancient Egypt, various art displays, local history and much more. The first floor seems geared mostly for children. The 2nd floor art galleries are more for adults. There is an organ recital.
To me the underlying theme of the Museum is how Glasgow- Scotland influenced the world and how the world influenced Glasgow Scotland. The displays convey pride in this as it encouraged more progressive ideas in the city.
Enjoyed our visit.
A. O.
If you love history or like to visit historical places, you should visit the museum.
Pretty much accessible and easy to locate.
They open by 11 am so don't rush.
R. S. C.
Wonderful place to visit with so much to see and learn. The architecture itself is breathtaking inside and out. Visitors, including me, were reluctant to leave at closing time.
T. T. G. M.
Love Kelvingrove. Set in the West End of Glasgow, next to Kelvingrove Park (including skatepark) and a walk along the river, this museum is large and has (pay for) parking.
Visitors enjoy the taxidermy section where you can get up close to stuffed elephants, a giraffe, wildebeest, birds, insects, deer etc. And read about their habits and habitat.
Upstairs, there's a gallery filled with paintings (including Salvador Dali's The Crucifiction and sculptures. I've added a few pictures.
There's plenty of toilets and a cafe, as well as restaurants nearby, including the vegan one, The 78. Great for a free family day out! If the weather is nice, you can picnic in the grounds, or in the nearby park.
C. R.
Must see experience in Glasgow. The amazing historical building itself is worth the price of admission. However, inside you will find a wide variety of cool exhibits with a lot of interesting displays.
L. K.
There is something here for everyone. It’s a great place to go on your own or with a group of people that are interested in different things. There’s art, military history, natural history, anything you would want. Even if you only go to see the building and it’s beautiful architecture, it’s worth it. Admission is free.
M. H.
Excellent Art Museum just outside of the city center. The building itself is beautiful. There is both a full service restaurant as well as a small cafe. Both offer delicious food. The exhibits themselves have excellent description and history.
J. P.
Amazing place. Definitely you should visit this gallery if you are in Glasgow. Many masterpieces are collected there. I think minimum 2 hours you need to walk around. But better to have half of the day.
A.
Really interesting museum/art gallery. Could have spent hours wandering around here. Really cool and we'll thought out displays and a great history of Glasgow.
D. G.
Go and admire the architecture - it's a spectacular building. For a museum though, it's just weird. It's a very odd and varied collection of not a lot. Nothing in any depth. Four stars for the building. Two stars for the exhibits.
S. C.
This building could have no art in it at all and it would still be worth visiting for the architecture alone. But luckily, there is lots of amazing art too. What a wonderful place to come.
f. g.
Great museum with a lot of natural history and art. We happened to arrive during an organ recital which was cool.
Best of all it’s free.
D. E.
An excellent museum & art gallery free entry. There is even a Supermarket Spitfire. Great collection of The Glasgow Boys paintings plus French impressionists, The Colourists. Also a magnificent organ
G. L.
What a gigantic gallery filled with stunning curations! Finally saw a Rembrandt up close! There is a great selection of paintings, artefacts and items. I only had an hour there which was not nearly enough. I suggest allotting 2.5-3 h to peruse everything at a leisurely pace!! Free to the public.
Z. “. F.
Glorious gallery and museum set in a beautiful location. We visited during an organ recital, the sound of the music in the central hall was inspiring. There is a small café inside, which can be busy during weekends. Carparking available nearby.
H. C.
Beautiful architecture with lots to see, from paintings to historical artifacts, etc.. definitely worth visiting for ~2hrs.
There was some instrumental performance on the ground floor when I visited.
G. L.
Went here yesterday a few years since I've been and it certainly didn't disappoint. Something for every age group in the gallery. Went for lunch (downstairs) great quality food and lovely attentive staff.Would highly recommend. The organ recital was fabulous. Great day out, go you'll not be disappointed.
L. F.
Absolutely stunning museum 👏 👌 lots to see. Great family day out. Lovely cafe to grab something to eat. Gorgeous little gift shop. Well worth a visit.

Visited the Eric Watt Exhibition at Kelvingrove, a small selection of images from his vast archive was on show, it was good to see..
Following text is a background of Eric Watt, from an online book review..
Eric Watt was an amateur photographer. Active during the 1950s through to the late 1990's, he took many thousands of images during his 50-year span as a photographer. He was an active member of Queen's Park Camera Club in the south side of Glasgow. His work reveals how the city has changed in the five decades in which he worked, capturing much of Glasgow's social history, its citizens and streets. Featuring black and white and colour images, the book has commentary putting the social history of Glasgow into context, alongside captions for each image. This book, tilted 'Coming into View' is published to coincide with an exhibition of Eric Watt's work currently at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum.

Good for kids! My son enjoy seeing animal sculptures. They have nice collection. Also, many rare pieces of from all over the world. The building was awesome!
G. S.
We spent about 4 hours here (2a1c) - mainly for the museum side. We're not so into the art part really so could have probably stayed longer if that bit floated our boat.
They also had an organ recital on which was nice.
It's an interesting business model they have. Entry is free. You're not obligated to pay anything. But if you enjoy it and think it is worth it, all they ask is that you chuck them a fiver donation
I thought it was well worth it though
It's the best animal museum experience I've ever had
The range and level of preservation was extraordinary
A lot of them you couldn't tell they weren't alive anymore (if you ignore the fact they're still and on sticks, but you know what I mean!!) The taxidermy was done amazingly well
It's the first time I've seen one so well preserved (as normally we'd just eat them) but they even had a haggis on display!
They really have a face only a mother could love though 🤣
The Ancient Egypt section was also very interesting. You got to practice the steps of wrapping up your own mummy and learned all about the ka and ba (spirit and personality) and why the sarcophagus has a face on it
My 6 year old will now take great delight in telling you all about how they'd pull the dead Egyptians brains out through their noses!!
It wasn't a text heavy museum. The level it was pitched at was very good. And it had great backdrops and theming too
10/10. Even parking is free!
A. P.
Wow what a nice experience ! I love this place. Nothing can be expected, wonderful diversity of artwork, great for children and adults, easy to reach with bus and metro.
J. A.
One of the best place to learn about history. It's huge and you need time to check it properly. And it's free of cost so you don't need to buy any ticket.
M. P.
Typical old-fashioned labyrinthine gallery/museum with a diverse range of exhibits from prehistoric antrhopology to 70s photographic social history via taxidermy, WWII Spitfire, landscape/portrait paintings & sculpture. Some interesting explanatory material and themes.
With the bonus of epic organ recitals and a cafe.
L. L.
This gallery worth every second you spend visiting it. And it worth every £ you donate to keep this museum so impressive.
If you have the chance to attend the organ recital, you will never forget it. A place you must visit if you’re in Glasgow, even if you only have a day to spend.
W. K. C.
Great museum with various exhibits ranging from art, history and natural history. Many interesting pieces for young children and adults alike.
J. S.
An absolute work of architectural art itself, this stunning museum has everything for kids and adults alike.
A stunning interior and incredible events venue that I have been lucky enough to enjoy. A true landmark of Glasgow.

Stunning location with endless attractions for all. Catch the daily organ recitals at 1pm or 3pm on Sundays for a brilliant treat. Staff is extremely helpful and warm.
M. W.
This was probably one of the best museums we have ever been to. We intended to go for half to one hour, stayed much longer because there was so much of interest!
S. R.
A museum sharing the most dignified arts while also filled with quite imaginative and inquisitive displays
Imagine....Explore...Learn....Inquire
Beautiful facility
Hospitable and Enthusiastic people working there also
You can walk along the grounds and tour the inside
Beautiful areas outside to take pictures of the Museaum
K. M.
This is a great place. Lots of historical, natural, and cultural artefacts and classic and modern paintings to see. Surprised that it is free.
C. C.
Amazing museum. Great Egypt exhibit. Free admission but I recommend you give a charitable contribution. Gift shop was great. Several famous paintings by Rembrandt, Monet, Metisse, and Renoit.
S. M.
Lovely time spot for a day spend. Enjoyed the museum and various real stuffed animals. Enlightens the history of UK and Egypt too. It's a place where we can study more things geographically. Main thing is it's a free entry.
M. L.
Lovely museum with lots to see. It takes 3-4 hours to see everything. Inside the museum is a cafe. The museum can be accepted by public transport from the city or behind the building is a parking lot.
M. F.
What a museum, inside and out! There are free guided tours and someone plays the 1901 organ (with over 2,800 pipes) each day!
B. T.
Would definitely recommend this gallery! Very unique & beautiful artwork! The staffs were friendly.
There was eating places if you want have a break.
R. M.
Yes another truly amazing time spent in Gallery. Not only is it for the art lover. Salvidor Dali interpretation of Christ on the cross was initially purchased for a small sum of money.. It was thought of a 'waste' of money.. yet now in the hands of the gallery it is worth a cool 30 million. It will be there for generations to come. I cannot help but feel drawn to the gallery from the masterpieces on display to the quirky Elvis... see photos. The gallery is free plus in comparison La Louve nothing is behind a square box..so you get to see through the eyes of the artist their work up close. I must add however that the painting of Christ is under 24 surveillance. Apparently someone had sliced it in half & then someone else had shot at it.. was it fear/ delusional ideation or vandalism. It was restored & gifted to the the people and gallery for all to enjoy. Despite many tales of this art. No one can say what is the note above cross & is this figure making his way up or down.. who knows.. It is airy, pleasant, warm if sun is out & has full facilities of a cafe/ gift shop & toilets. It does involve a LOT of walking. Yes a great way to spend a day & all free of charge.. well worth a visit
F. R.
Beautiful building housing a very eclectic range of exhibitions. I particularly liked the ones focusing on the Glasgow Boys and Charles Rennie Mackintosh but there really is something for everyone here.

I’ve been to museums all around the world, this is amongst the best. The location and architecture are outstanding and once inside there’s a splendid cornucopia of displays. If your in Glasgow it’s a must visit
M. F.
If you stay in Glasow you MUST visit this place, a lot of exhibits of nature, technology and art. You can see many stuffed animals like tigers, forest animals, birds, bears and even a dino skeleton. Things from around the world, from egypt, from india, many many arts, paints. If you like technical items in a museum such as old airplanes or mechanisms, you'll find those here, too. I recommend you to reserve 2-3 hours if you want to see all that is in the museum. In the basement there is a gift shop where you can buy actually pretty souvenirs.
L. V.
World class!! Exceptional museum.
Impressionists and poignant Scottish painters...all tell a story. The Dalí was on tour but that is ok. I hope to return with the grand children.
M. S.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery is a must see! So many wonderful exhibitions in a historically beautiful building - always an excellent experience to go when in the west end of Glasgow!
n. p.
One of the top attractions in Glasgow, this place is not to be missed. It's so big you'll need more than half a day to explore everything inside the museum. My personal highlights were the Egyptian history section, the art gallery with paintings of Vincent van Gogh and other popular artists and also the spitfire aircraft.
f. l.
what a great place to visit with family or friends, free entry, plenty parking space which is paid but still not too much, a wide range of History, loved it
S. D.
Loads to see, so set aside at least 2 hours to get around everything. Parking can be a problem. Go on a Sunday at 3pm to hear the pipe organ being played. Don't miss the Salvador Dali painting, it's totally mesmerising.

Great to wander around again.
No cafe. A few exhibits remain closed but enough for me to see today. I'll be back to visit the galleries upstairs.
They've even got a Scottish Wild Haggis on display!! Love it 😉
Solo visitor.
A. W.
Spacious large museum, so much to see, variety of art works from photography to animal specimen and art works from different cultures with sentimental meanings. Took us quite some time to see everything, there were also live piano performing.
J. O.
Great free gallery and museum. Beautiful building easily accessible from the city centre if you get off at Kelvinhall Subway
K. K.
Beautiful. An amazing building with stunning architecture worth the visit just for thatcaspect ket alone all the wonderful exhibits and art work. Some really stunning artwork here guys including some if the greatest painters including Picasso. Monet. Salvador Dhali....so many more not to mention The Glasgow Boys!
M. H.
I visited this gallery today, we had to book our tickets online... the tickets were free, and you can give a donation once inside.
All social distancing and track and trace in place, all staff wearing masks.
The gallery was very open space, plenty of room to look around, not to crowded.
The gallery was very clean and tidy, and plenty of staff around to help, staff were very friendly.
A lot of new things to see, and plenty of the old favourites about... was a very enjoyable time... ticket lets you spend 2 hours in there.
Would I revisit, yes 100%, would i recommend, again yes 100%
H. M.
truly awesome experience. not only is the local history, but also a generell history about earth talked about. The art gallery is also stunning. you surely need the whole day, if not even more time, to see everything. the gift shops were also good.
A. B.
Good place.
There is no ticket but they suggest a £5 optional donation for the upkeep of the place.
You can spend an hour or two here.
P. R.
Just amazing, its free and you could walk around for 2+ hours, cafe, toilets and pubs across the road, so your sorted. 100% recommend 👌
S. M.
Wonderful free Museum
We stayed in Glasgow for a day and visited this beautiful Museum which was good.
Check out my pictures
B. C.
Been there twice, a lot of art & culture.
There’s a exhibition in B1 next to cafe, spend most of time there really interesting museum.
Good place !

I loved my visit of the Kelvingrove. It is huge. When I went, there was a man playing music at 13pm. I recommend
L. H.
Great place to spend the day . Lots to see and study. Nice little place to get a cuppa and a piece of cake.
W. K.
One of the best galleries and museums I've been to. Everything from natural history to The Glasgow Boys' art. And a great cafe too. Easy to get to, near bus and metro lines.
J. W.
Marvellous museum and art gallery with plenty to see, enough for a two to three hour visit. The grand hall and organ is an impressive way to enter the building and there are plenty of navigational maps to help guide visitors. The art gallery collection has some internationally important paintings and there's an interesting room about the history of Glasgow.
P. R. R.
Nice museum that has a lot to offer - a bit too much to be very specific but everyone will find something they are interested in
S. H.
This is a rare find. So much interesting history about Glasgow life. Not a moment wasted and truly educational.
M. N.
Beautiful museum, the building is amazing and the exhibitions are arranged in a very engaging manner.
C. F.
Tip#
When an organ recital is happening don't just stand on the ground floor and look up like 99% of other folk.
Go up to first floor. Walk along to be right next to organist and use one of the portable chairs to sit and rest as you listen.
L. M.
it's an amazing museum.
I arrived was having a presentation. There was a sign saying that it has on Sundays at 15:00
E. M.
Beautiful gallery. We went on a Sunday and made it for 3pm organ recital which was amazing.
R. L.
We visited Kelvingrove September 8th. to attend the John Byrne exhibition. We had lunch in the restaurant first which was excellent in both quality, taste and service. Then on to the exhibition which was superbly presented and enjoyed by everyone we spoke to, even to sitting doing the hand jive along with great music. We'll done all concerned. Thanks again
F. G.
Absolutely wonderful museum with a huge range of artworks from international, national and Scottish artists.
Also includes modern and contemporary works done more recently.
Staff are incredibly friendly and would be happy to help and answer any questions you may have.
C. G.
First time visit to the Kelvingrove museum. Beautiful building, never had any interaction with the staff.
I did enjoy my visit not been to a museum in a while but I did find it very similar to the museum in Edinburgh.
J. B.
One of my favourite places in Glasgow for art and objects. Car parking and cafe on site. I saw a Van Gogh, close enough to touch. Amazing. Also hanging heads (in memory of those who lost their bodies :)
There's an organ recital each Sunday at 3pm. Sit in the Cafe and enjoy the music
J. M.
Wonderful gallery & museum in a beautiful building. Two restaurants and a reasonably priced gift show. Getting there is easy too with a frequent bus service and close to the subway.
A. N.
An amazing building with stunning architecture, a good place for all ages with too much to see and explore that being said put a lot of time here in your itinerary. It is also free so no excuses not to go 100% recommended👍. im not fun of museums but this catches my attention very well. The areas were nicely organized and the information signs were vivid not to be bored in reading😀. A stunning place inside and out
L. L.
A great place to visit while visiting Glasgow. Make sure you go for the organ recitle.
M. K.
When you out you have gain for sure some additional knowledge even things you are not interested in. Very nice displays that catches attention. To be seen when in Glasgow
T. r.
Amazing collection and lovely recital of the Organ music at 1pm. Would love to visit again.
T. E.
Fantastic collection of art work, could've believe it was donations only with large carpark and easy access
C. T.
If you enjoy museums and art galleries you'll like Kelvingrove. There's plenty to see and it's free.
M. L. H.
Very spacious, eclectic and interesting place to visit. The Ring Go parking app could be confusing. Bring change.
O.
great museum and gallery!! we walked in at around 1pm on a monday and was so surprised to find out that there was an organ recital at that time.
K. O.
Beautiful place. Enjoyed every second I spent here. Worth visiting if in Glasgow. Entry is free but a voluntary donation is appreciated.
R. H.
Love this place, been many times with the kids and grandkids. A gallery for all ages.
i. b.
A good old fashioned Museum & Art-Gallery. Lots of stuffed animals, Egyptology, archiology, and paintings. Quite a few galleries currently closed but can easily spend a couple of hours on a rainy day here and still come back again.
The Dali painting Christ of Saint John of the Cross is worth seeing regardless of your beliefs.
There is of course the compulsory cafe & shop. There's a reasonable amount of parking at the back but public transport should be considered especially if it's likely to be busy.
B. R. C.
Glasgow is probably rightfully proud of this massive collection of historical pieces, art, and information in the great park called Kelvingrove. No extended holiday visit to the city is complete if you haven't yet looked around inside.
B. M.
Truthfully, I wasn't so sure if my kids would enjoy the Kelvingrove Museum. But, they loved it! We gave them the choice of whether or not we stopped at the museum on the way to our next adventure. Both of my young children enthusiastically opted to stop and go to the museum. Since it is free, I thought why not. The people working the museum were so incredibly nice and helpful. At the time the great organ was being played and we all enjoyed listening and watching the gentleman play as a family. The kids were actively engaged in all of the exhibits and asked a lot of questions. It was a great activity. The only trouble we had was parking, which really isn't the museum's fault. We ended up parking in a lot and walked a few blocks. There was parking right in front of the museum, but it we noticed it was full as we walked toward the entrance. We also could not figure out how to get there. But, our legs work and it all ended up working out in the end. Our family had a great time.
S. K.
Beautiful place!
I have recently arrived here, and I was overwhelmed by its historic and romantic museums.
As inquisitive as I am, I stepped into the museum in a windy morning of a summer day and left it when the night was falling.
I was absolutely mesmerized by the works of art in the museum. There are different rooms which depict the architecture and lifestyle. There are enormous colourful canvas, amazing sculptures, exquiste paintings and wall arts.
M. A.
If you are interested in arts, then this museum is for you.
Free entry with good collection of arts.
s. m.
Really good, lots of history and brilliant for knowledge for you and the kids, need more days to soak in properly
S. G.
I was fascinating by every single spot in here. Couldn't take much photos because other my telephone would be exploded🤣🤣
There is so much to see and you'll be amazed!
A. G.
Had a great afternoon at Elvingrove .
The atmosphere was so nice and all the staff were amazing .
M. R.
Absolutely loved it worth a visit just for the Rennie Macintosh exhibits
K. R.
Nice museum. Not too big not too small. Not too busy. Not empty.
M. G.
This is a very nice museum. There's lots of beautiful paintings and some interesting artifacts like whole sets of armor, fossils, etc. If you're lucky enough, you'll get to hear someone play the huge organ they have on the north end, and it sounds beautiful. I was there for a whole 30 minutes just listening to the musician play different classical melodies with very high skill!
A. B.
Absolutely amazing place! Also food was great (downstairs eating area)
Y. R.
Endless exhibitions, outstanding paintings, marvelous organ at 3pm. Plus cafes and beautiful architecture. Excellent time!
D. G.
Fantastic building with stunning artwork, exhibitions and interior. And if you time it sublime music from the galleried organ. Wholly recommended
E. P.
Quite a collection. Parking available. Great place to bring your kids/family
T. K.
What a remarkable place. We visited on 3 of the 4 days we were in Glasgow. There really is something for everybody here. The place is vast and you can easily spend hours roaming around and still feel like there is more to see.
If you are in the area do not miss out!
i. m.
Never tire of the Kelvingrove. Always manage to find something that i haven't seen before.... But a Spitfire. Wow! Thoroughly enjoyed my visit.... Again!
T. M.
Must visit in Glasgow, brilliant free museum covering many aspects of history.
J. C.
Great visit with family. Excellent variety of exhibits from Mackintosh, art and zoology. Lovely lunch in the cafe.
G. W.
We had a wonderful lunch then wander around the first floor. We loved the Scottish Impressionists collection and many other Scottish paintings. It was nice to see how their paintings changed over time. The only disappointment was the absence of the Salvador Dali St John of the Cross which was on loan, but always good to have a reason to come back!
J. G.
Absolutely fascinating museum and art gallery, unfortunately I arrived a bit later than I would have liked and had to rush a bit, also unfortunate that the staff started kicking everyone out about 15 minutes before closing but definitely worth visiting, especially as it is free but I did donate the recommended 5 pounds
J. J. A. L.
Very good and well organized museum. Lots of information and you can spend at least half a day here.
R. N.
Geogous museum. Kelvingrove is truly georgous. The organ is stunning. Deffinatly return when next in Glasgow, to see the Dali which is away at the moment (July 2022).
F. H.
Awesome! As a tourist I'd highly recommend checking out the Kelvin Grove art gallery. The building is over 100 years old, so just seeing that is amazing. The exhibits are also super cool inside. There is a great organ that plays daily which is fantastic to hear in person.
R. M.
Can't complain at all. Free entry, fantastic exhibits, friendly staff. Had a blast!
z. f.
Free entry. Free parking on the side streets nearby on Weekends. And then just get amazed at the architecture, paintings and photographic exhibition. Marvellous. The whole experience is outstanding and yet its totally free but we should definitely donate to the museum to help them continue the good work.
r. m.
In all the years I've visited Glasgow I had never been here until now. Loved this place and will definitely return.
A. L. M.
Museum super rich in content, with a lot of variety of culture, history, also has incredible arts, I highly recommend this museum, it is free
I. S.
Great collection, worth visiting the museum. Easy access.
A. M.
Excellent museum. Met at entrance by a man who was extremely helpful. I asked for advice on how to view the gallery. I was advised to start at the top. Which I did. Intend to go back as there is so much to see. I stay in Glasgow so this is not a problem. The French Artists Room was shut due to an electrical problem and Christ the Redeemer by Dali was away on loan. Still plenty other amazing artists. The museum is FREE to all visitors.
E. o. N.
Such a beautiful place - we learned loads and had fun!
G. D.
Great museum which is located in a beautiful building a little outside of Glasgow
R. T.
This is a must do visit in Glasgow. The building's facade is simply stunning and almost out of place with the its more modern urban environment. Amazing collection of art exhibits and historical artefacts. All the sections are reasonably small in terms of the volume of exhibits to look at. However, the quality of works makes up for this. You could easily spend a day here and if you have youngsters to amuse then a good couple of hours here is a great use of their time. Free admission but voluntary donations will keep this great resource going. Enjoy!
r. c.
I absolutely loved it here!! Such a well kept museum with a fantastic mix of exhibits that there's something to interest everyone. The organist playing was delightful extra to the wonderful experience we had.
R.
Stunning building with lots to see, a day trip worth doing. Unfortunately the tablets don't work for the interactive displays. Not that it matters to be honest. Also the grounds are stunning with a great big park beside the museum, so much to do and see.
C. J.
Impressed with the actual building and then how much there is to see and for most interests. The curators should be commended.
C. F.
Excellent museum with quite a diverse collection of artefacts. I spent a couple of hours here, and could have quite happily stayed longer.
I didn’t pre-book online, as it was a last minute decision to visit. But it wasn’t an issue, I just had to queue outside for a few minutes before being admitted.
The café is currently closed, but the toilet facilities are still open. It would have been nice to be able to visit the on-site café, but there are plenty of options just across the road.
J.
The exhibition was bigger than I thought, ranging from historical, scientific stuff to art works.
The areas were nicely organized and the building itself was beautiful so it’s a enjoyable experience as a whole. The information signs were also nice, written in vivid words (probably designed for children?) to make knowledge not so boring.
I like the areas that are special for Glasgow (for instance, the “Glasgow boys” artworks) which made the experience more unique. It’s free entry, just need to book in advance.
Would recommend for small family trips or simply tourists who wanted to know more about this city. Plan at least one hour to see all the collections.
L. M.
Nice enough museum and art gallery. It's like a scaled down version of the Natural history museum in London. They have on site parking. Disabled access of really good both at the car park and entrances. Free parking is available to blue badge holders. Covid restrictions means the shops and cafe are currently not open.
R. S.
Cafe open ..... toilets open ..... not too busy. Free but donation on the door is a nice thing to do for the museum. Very clean and Interesting for everyone. Lifts available. Also a picnic area on the lower ground area next to the lift.
L. M.
Beautiful building, great art. I just need more time in it!
A. M. B.
Wonderful museum with fine art and natural history areas. Deserves several visits.
M. M.
As a museum lover, I have fallen in l❤️ve with this gorgeous place.
Highly recommend!!!
E. B.
The perfect place for kids. Very kids friendly, great place to spend time with friends or a quiet day out of the house. Lot's of different things for kids to see. Clean nice toilets and a baby changing room, elevator, coffee shop.
M. W.
One of my favourite places in Glasgow, been going since I was a wee girl - love it!! You could lose hours here, like I did today. lol
There's something for everyone - always fascinating new exhibitions and the old favourites of course. I spoke to a steward there and he recommended an exhibition that I wasn't aware of - the photographer Eric Watt. Never heard of him till today and it's quite something, worth a look!! 😁
The building itself is stunning too, will never tire of this institution - a credit to Glasgow. Keep up the good work guys. 👍🏻
L. R.
Lots to see, a nice cafe, and make sure to be there for when they play the pipe organ!
D. D.
Interesting historically, both the building and the exhibits. It is also a fun and educational place for children. When I went through the revolving doors I was cast back to the first time I did this with my mother around 62 years ago.
C. A.
Quite quickly we lost 3 hours wandering around Kelvingrove, a large array of artefacts and timed it correctly to be accompanied by the organ recital at 1300. Not too busy and moved around freely. The staff on hand are very friendly, knowledgeable and most of all helpful.
Worth a visit if you're wondering what to do in Glasgow.
F. C.
It is a great museum of (natural) history and art gallery as well. The entry is free and the building itself is worthwhile.
In some rooms in the museum, I was a bit surprised by the combination of exhibits. It is probably due to the limited space in the museum (or a very modern approach to curating).
A. G.
Looks awsome in the evening from outside, you just want to go inside and have a look..
Loved the atmosphere, the place was buzzing with warmth and glow..
There's a skating ⛸ ring which people can enjoy, and on the other side you can chill, a massive big wheel you can ride on..A fun evening.
R. H. (.
Interesting and varied exhibits - something for everyone.
P. M.
One of my favourite museums I have ever visited i would give it more than 5 stars if i could. Has a breadth of exhibits on a wide range of subjects all of which I enjoyed. In particular I love the weaponry exhibit.
I have visited twice and both times had to leave earlier than I had wished (I like to read every bit of writing in the museum).
I thought the plaque in the centre talking about imperialism was very tasteful. I was able to catch an organ recital on my second visit which was very cool as well.
Sadly on both of my visits the Salvador Dali painting was on loan which was disappointing.
A. B.
Crammed with lots of interesting items to view. Staff are very helpful, there's an organ recital every day which unfortunately I missed - you need to check the times before going if interested. The toilets are clean and there is a café which I didn't personally go to. There is also a park at the back, I think, which I didn't explore.
A. C.
Very lovely building, well set out inside, enough to look at in all ranges
T. B.
Had a lovely time with my family. Lots to do. We enjoyed the organ recital
E. R.
Beautiful building with very nice galleries and exhibits.
M. S.
The difficulty is rather low, which makes it suitable for (older) children I think. Adults who have been to a few museums might already know one thing or the other. But the way the exhibitions are presented is very clear, never getting so complicated or detailed that you lose interest. Consider donating or buying something from the shop, because they don't charge for entry, but certainly deserve a little money for their effort!
L.
This museum offers a wild mix. A bit overwhelming, but probably a fun place for families with kids.
There was even an organ concert / recital on Sunday at 3pm.
Learned a bit about The Glasgow Boys and was amused by the labels, as they sometimes just refer to “the boys”.
D. W.
Great museum. It's smaller than the 'Big' Museums like London or the National Scottish museum. But bigger than most small museums.
Probably set aside 2.5/3 hours for the trip.
It's free to my knowledge, but they may charge for specific high-production exhibits, I'm not sure.
L. F.
Always a great day out in Glasgow for all ages
A. X.
This is one of the best museums I have ever been so far.
It's for free and it still has amazing expositions! ❤️
You won't regret it, just go. :)
S. P.
Quite a good collection of artifacts and art. The building itself is a beautiful piece of architecture. Plenty of open spaces, very much recommended for families with kids. Also close proximity to the park and UoG make it a good candidate for a day out.
J. B.
Great! Lovely building, great collections. Allow plenty of time!
V.
Very educational, you can spend few hours looking about. Location good plenty of cafe/ pubs near by. If never been this is a must. Very easy to get to both by bus/ underground 🚇
A. A.
I took8ke a very nice place sadly it was closed.
I. W.
A fantastic art gallery and Museum. Go at lunchtime and enjoy the bonus of the organ recital. A monument to Victorian altruism, or class-consciousness cleansing depending on perspective.
And, being in Scotland, free!
J. N.
Wonderful museum, very popular too, really busy on my Sunday afternoon visit.
S. K.
Amazing place and a must see in Glasgow. Free attractions catering to art lovers, nature lovers and all sorts of audience. There was also an excellent organ recital when we visited.
B. H.
Utterly fabulous world class art! Such an amazing collection of 19th and 20th century Scottish and European art. Will definitely be back. Learnt about the Glasgow Boys and the Scottish colourists two movements I knew little about but now love!
d. a. Z.
Don't miss it. If you go in Glasgow you must visit this museum
M. O.
At first, you may be surprised by how the art pieces are displayed together but you'll see the logic by reading the really good accompanying explanations. Some area are clearly designed to entertain kids. I'm sure you'll learn things and enjoy the experience.
N. L.
We have visited this Beautiful place many times over many years, and will continue to do so.
There's Paying parking places adjacent to building, we travelled by train to Glasgow Central Station, then a very short walk to bus stop to destination, then 2 minute walk into building, later return to Central Station by bus.
J. F.
Lots to see and do for the whole family. Also a £1 cloakroom, which is handy if you're travelling with bags.
M.
So much to see I would take 2 days to see all in me and my partner's case.
But from what I did see it has really great collections. Just one thing, it doesn't have a flow system.. you seem to wonder about and end up going around the exhibit the wrong way.
L. J. C.
Love going here, unfortunately never thought to pre book, but seen stuff in gardens never noticed before. Make sure book via Glasgow Museums, staff very courteous
N. K.
Amazing place and interesting museum.
W. A.
Great place to go one of my favourite Galleries need all day to have a proper look at everything
B. G.
Kid's loved it especially the animals. My wife and I love it as our name's are on the walls.
G. G.
One of the most beautiful place to visit in Glasgow with diverse exhibitions inside from stone age till modern art
G. S.
Excellent place very educational lots to do and see well worth a visit
r. s.
Visited for the John Patrick Byrne exhibition. Unusually for this museum, this part has a cost attached to visit it. I paid £5 as a concession user, but it was well worth it. We spent at least 90 minutes wandering around and could have spent longer if we had sat and listened to all the on screen stories.
s. l.
Scottish colourists and Dalí's masterpieces are a must-see, in my opinion.
E. C.
Excellent venue for browsing through the art galleries, wandering through specific exhibitions listening to organ recital and enjoying excellent food in the restaurant. Cafe available in main hall, gift shop with wide selection of gifts and souvenirs adjacent to downstairs restaurant. Parking available.
C. C.
Very interesting. Lots of different areas, something for everyone. Disabled wc on all floors. Disabled Changing room available 1st floor. Level access throughout. Disabled parking good.
M. D.
Lovely place to spend a few hours at. Great for kids and adults alike!
W. R.
Best Museum I've seen in a while! You can easily spend two days in there.
J. P.
This is a great museum with a beautiful cross-section of natural history, fine arts, historic crafts, home and foreign cultures, modern works and exhibits from antiquity. This museum is very accessible and tangible for every type of visitor whether they are deeply knowledgeable in the arts or an "armchair affectionado". Plenty of touch exhibits for young children to explore and thought-provoking, interactive interpretations to be found over the collection to invite conversation and debate. There's a small, but convenient café on site if you're wanting something quick, and a nice choice of restaurants nearby if you have more time. The gift shop is decent and the staff are always friendly and helpful.
K. M.
There for the 50 years of Glasgow Print Studio exhibition, which is excellent, great range of diverse work, very well presented. I'll revisit at least once. Very good lunch too
S. O.
Free for all. The best wee museum ever. Not the Louvre, but every child in Glasgow for the past 100 plus years has been in awe and learned so much from this gem.
B. P.
Perhaps the best art museum I've ever been in, definitely the best in recent years. I grew up visiting the Chicago Art Institute, I've been to the Tretyakov in Moscow, and other less will known galleries. But the history, and the context, provided here are remarkable. Beautiful art, and mind-opening curation.
F. S.
Such a disappointment to find the Salvador Dali wasn't there...having driven for several hours to see it! The museum is enjoyable for an afternoon with a little of a lot of things. Very busy as it was halfterm...perhaps avoid school holidays and check if you want to see the Salvador Dali!
Y. S.
A most interesting museum with a wide range of artistic exhibits. It is certainly a focal point of art in Glasgow, a "must place" to visit. I spent well over two hours touring all halls. Very interesting exhibits of history and archaeology of Glasgow and as an arcaeologist I would recommend it to all persons that share this. Last but not least, the staff was very helpful.
A. B. (. B.
Amazing place to visit and so much to see. You would probably need at least 2 days to see everything. Would recommend anyone to go. There are even stuffed animals for children to see.
J. S.
Possibly my favourite place on Gods earth.
I have been a regular visitor since my mother took me in a pushchair pre school.
My office, for 10 years, was within a lunchtime walking distance which I absolutely loved.
I take every friend that visits Glasgow for the first time and had the honour of taking my nephews toddler twins for their first of many visits recently.
I dont know anyone that has left disappointed.
Just go.
Now.
Dont put it off.
F. M.
One of the best in Scotland, great collection, great pipe organ sound :)
C. B.
Kelvingrove is always on my list when visiting or recommending places to visit in Glasgow. It is such a well curated museum and you learn a lot about the city, country and culture while walking around. The free entry is just a bonus.
J. L.
A wondeful place to visit, free for entrance.
B. M.
Best organised displays ever!
S. M.
Came for Elfingrove on Saturday. Plenty for kids to do but make sure you wrap up as it is absolutely freezing! The ladies toilets on site did not have any sanitary bins available. We also went on the big wheel and were stuck in the freezing cold as the power went out. Apparently the plug socket came loose and it wasn't the first time it happened that day. Not good when you are on with small children.
E. R.
Great attraction. Pity Dali was out on loan though. Cafe on Lower Ground floor highly recommended - excellent service and very tasty food.
A. E.
Magnificent Outside Facade. The exterior just speaks volume of itself. Red sandstones are a symbol of Glasgow. The interior is just as good and possesses very useful stuff to be looked at.
C. T.
Beautiful building. Went here for a corporate evening function so didn't see everything. Will definitely becreturning soon to appreciate the whole museum.
N. A.
Visiting the museum is a must while in Glasgow. Interesting and versatile collection, beautiful building. We enjoyed our visit very much.
A. C.
Very much enjoyed the John Byrne exhibition. Would love to own an original of his!!! Good little gift shop. Beautiful building.
T. L.
Fantastic place to visit...for free!!!...you get art, a museum, a concert, a place to eat and a shop! It's a very unique place that is great for kids as there is no need to be quiet while exploring!
A. “. M.
Was beautiful and kept the grandchildren amused for hours. Ages 5,3 and 1 1/2, amazing 👏 😍. I loved the exhibits as well. 67 years young.
A. H.
I loved it there. I honestly recommend to go there and spend some time. You will find art of any kind. Natural art - fossils of many species. A huge giraffe with a spitfire above and Van Gogh's and Dalí's art hanging on the walls. And the building itself- Woooow!
L. B.
Spent a few hours there, not enough time but really worth another visit. Interactive displays, good for kids, and others, lots of variety as well. And it's free!!!
B. A.
Great art gallery. Good selection of paintings and other artifacts.
Beautiful building too. One of my favourite places.
G. p.
Small but interesting museum, mix of Scottish and international art and history, paid parking but there are usually spaces, free entry however donations are accepted or buy something at the gift shop or cafe. 👍

"Ascension"
I had trotted along from Merchant City. Hungover in the blistering heat, as I entered the two front doors I was blasted with life saving cool air. There were about 30 pensioners sat on chairs facing me. As a mind piercing organ plays down from above me and through my bones. Like I was re starring in my Primary 3 Easter panto. My brain decided that was the last straw. I spent the rest of the evening laughing at very badly stuffed animals and floating smiling heads, looking like I just had ripped the last of my dawg. 4 stars for the AC. Missing a star for putting me through 10 rounds of hell within a single second.
O. T.
Great place for families. The kids loved the animal section. The dinosaur bones was their favorite. Great choice on displaying a plane in the middle of the big room. We are so truly thankful to visit your museum. We love the paintings and every other displays in every room. May your museum keep its beauty and history. Will there be new exhibitions next year?
C. P.
I never tire of this place after 42 years of visiting! 🤩
J. C.
Incredibly beautiful building. A big surprise during my first visit to Glasgow. Ideal to spend your day with family or friends in an educational visit. We'll hopefully come back soon!
The gallery is located on Argyle Street, in the West End of the city, on the banks of the River Kelvin (opposite the architecturally similar Kelvin Hall, which was built in matching style in the 1920s, after the previous hall had been destroyed by fire). It is adjacent to Kelvingrove Park and is situated near the main campus of the University of Glasgow on Gilmorehill.
j. m.
Love this place. Not enough days in the week to soak up all that the gallery has to offer. Lunchtime music is an added bonus.

This museum is wonderful and suitable for all ages. The collection is vast and will appear to all interest. There are lovely places to eat or have a cup of tea. The staff is very friendly and helpful. There is often a organ recital which was enjoyable. Great museum for kids. Free admission also makes this a wonderful low cost day at a world class venue.
G. K.
Nice place to spend with friends and family
K.
Beautiful place and great place to take children free of charge, the exhibition's are varied so there is definitely something for everyone here.
C. M.
Wonderful organ recitals every lunchtime with visiting organists. Why don't more venues make use of these fantastic instruments and give more young organists the opportunity to perform in public
C. P.
Thus museum has so much variety, that you are sure to spend hours wandering through the halls. At 1 pm on a Friday the had an organ player who did a great job playing their fantastic organ, so everyone gathers around the railing, or takes a seat to listen. It was really nice. Great for families and even little kids won't get bored, there is so much to see.
c. w.
Went there at the last minute of my trip and was treated to a beautiful organ recital
A. R.
A wonderful place to while away a few hours. So much to see and explore. Wonderful art and exhibits from natural history on display. There is a daily organ recital in the main hall at lunchtime also.
A coffee shop upstairs and a fully stocked cafe downstairs along with several gift shops.
Free to visit but donations are always welcome. Just make sure you have enough change for the parking (£5.20 for 3 hours).
T. m.
Great museum one way system in place for covid however staff dont wear masks. Unfortunately cafe was closed and all gift shops downstairs closed. Would of been nice if they had a trail to do... like you answer questions from parts of the museum or wee trivia one clue leads you to the next clue.
J. K.
Lovely museum and has a large interactive area for kids. Loved the gift shop. Was a Linda McCartney photo exhibit while we were there, fascinating. There is a restaurant on first floor and snacks on second. The building outside should be admired also.
G. B.
Amazing place if you admire art and history. Entry is free. Great option to take your kids along for some learning experience too. Nice cafes are situated inside the museum for a quick grab. Staff was very courteous and friendly.
P. K.
The exhibits here are fantastic, we spent about 1.5 hours just wandering around with our daughters, our 3 year old loved it. Especially the mummy display.
If we didn't have our children with us, we could have easily spent several hours just walking around taking everything in.
Entry is free with the option of donating. Parking costs £1.
Highly recommend visiting
J. W.
Great place to spend a half a day (or longer!). Went to see Dippy the Dinosaur and then spent hours walking around the exhibits. The afternoon organ recital was a lovely touch and the organist was extremely good. It was really nice to have the cameras pointing at his feet too!
Parking nearby can be an issue although not impossible.
H. R.
Something for children and adults alike. Fantastic architecture in the heart of Glasgow's West End. Definitely pop in if you are in the area. No admission fee but charitable donation of £5 as you enter is welcomed & well worth it
E. C.
Always very relaxed and calm atmosphere here. Extremely informative from art animals and countries histories. Not a lot is interactive but that doesnt make the place any less better. Honestly it's not that big inside with an amazing amount inside it but it's free admission and really what more can you get. Great place to go for a couple of hours. Has a few stores and a quick and easy cafe that looks up to an organ in the centre of the building. When the organ is being played it iust makes the experience even better.
P. F.
Spent part of an afternoon here looking to kill some time. Lots of stuff to see and I probably could have spent longer here if I'd taken my time more. Some exhibits were of more interest than others but there is a large selection of pieces. Entry is free. Not sure how much very young children would get out of it as there is little that is hands on, although they may enjoy looking at certain exhibits.
C. W.
Words cannot describe how much I enjoyed my several visits here - but actions can, and so I should tell you that this particularly stingy museum-goer actually spent money in the souvenir shop! There's so much to look at in this museum, so many fine pictures to inspect, and so many fantastic displays of cultural significance.
S. J.
Full of really interesting exhibits. Great to hear the organ playing Christmas carols. Free too!
R. A.
Whenever I walk by this Museum I got astonished by how elegant and magnificent it is!!! A whole history inside, it varies from people, animals, cultures, clothes, transports and a lot more!! It's so beautiful and informative..
C. C.
I would give it a 4.5, with half a star lost just because I think the curation of the museum could be (much) improved. Some of the captions are not really thoughtful or well-written and the layout of some of the museum areas really confused me. Certain things put in the same room felt completely unrelated. Apart from that, I love this place!! With their organ recitals and the liveliness, it’s great to see a museum with more music and fun than any other I’ve been to. It makes the environment seem much more approachable and kid-friendly. I feel like there’s something for everyone here and no doubt, everyone will find something to learn and like here. I can also feel the Scottish pride coming through everything. What a fantastic free museum! And a beautiful building as well.
M. J.
It's a very very big historical museum. It consists of 3 floors, each of two sides. Very old and ancient things are kept here to view for visitors. You really need a day to visit and see everything kept there. There is one musician who plays harmonium there, can be seen live there which was very amazing.
As historical thing, many paintings of ancient times can be seen there, a 600 years old tree's branch, I saw. Real mummy is kept there in Egyptian hall and many more things from ancient Egypt. Similarly, many more amazing things we saw in the museum.
There is a hall, where many emotional faces of dummies are hanging there, which looks really nice. I added one picture of it as well.
Old dresses of kings, guns etc are kept there. Many more old things like pots, crockeries, jewellery, etc from different varieties can be seen there. We did not had much time to visit and cover everything.
I. V.
Absolutely magnificent museum, there's no entry, but it's advised to give donations. You can spend an entire day there. Children friendly, they have a gallery dedicated to children. Nice coffee shop, good and cheap cakes
Breath taking places, you can smell the paintings. Must see
S. K.
Excellent collection, can bee viewed in two separate visits if you want to scan most of it. The biology section is interesting with the Darwin theory of evolutionary. ( ironic that it warns against the extinction such as what happened with the dodo bird and the Great auk, then it goes to displays their dried remains) The Égyptien section is very cool, as it deciphers the graphics and is better than most seen on other occasions. Also excellent is the photography section documenting Glasgow over the decades of changes. As with Dali , lota hype, and then says it’s on loan, LOL
I. S.
Great place to visit for excellent art work and historic artefacts. Been decades since I had last visited but will be back soon.
D. R. S.
I had no expectation what so ever, just went there because I had some extra time and I like museums and it's for free.
It was much more than I expected, next time I will bring my kids, there was so much for them to see.
J. B.
Spent 2 hours here , free to everyone, donation boxes on the entrance & exits to keep this amazing building & exhibitions, toilets & cafe
J. F.
Loved this museum. Stumbled in when the enormous cathedral organ was being played. Incredible acoustics. Free admission. Multiple floors of art, antiquities, natural history, interactive exhibits, and one incredible Dali painting, Christ on the Cross all to itself. Must see. I wish the Dali had some more room. But it's a very powerful painting, imposing and effective in the very small display room in which it resides. I don't know a lot about Art, but if this was part of the plan. It's very effective.
"When I paint, the sea roars.
The others splash about in the bath"
- Salvador Dali
W. W.
Worth a visit! Great collection of art (especially French Impressionist era), and the museum is free. If you are a fan of artists such as Monet, Degas, Cassat, Cezanne, Renoir, Manet, etc, then get here. There are also Seurat and Van Gogh. I didn't expect to see any of this and it blew my mind to wander upon it all. Artists from other countries and other eras are also represented here too. A surprising collection.
F. O.
Great place to visit. Kids love seeing and learning new things. Few exhibitions, lots of variety. The only problem seems to be finding a parking space, almost impossible!!! Also for EV drivers only 2 bays available unfortunately. Free Entry, donations welcome.
D. S.
Superb, great museum and Art Gallery covering many things. Cafe served good food at a fair price.
R. R.
Loved the place. Beautifully displayed artifacts. There was a live organ recital which was phenomenal! If you are planning to visit, definitely include the recital.
All of these are completely Free!!
K. H.
Amazing gallery and museum with plenty to see. Free to get into as well but donations are well. Got to experience the organ player at 1pm which was beautiful.
C. L.
I love this place especially the winter only Elfgrove ice skating park with silence disco. My friends and I had a lot of fun there!
J. A.
Just the right size for a museum. Filled with amazing treasures to discover. It has a lovely Cafe near the entrance and aga lot of picnic areas where you can eat your own food. The galleries are great. I enjoyed the part that taught how to read and understand paintings the most.
Z. B. K.
The best museum i’d been to and it’s free. The descriptions about the artworks were short and sweet. Great for those who get lost in the long texts of explanations about the piece and those who find museums boring. You can learn the scottish tradition and history + see paintings of Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso and bunch of other cool stuff.
C. D.
This place is a must! Huge , lots and diverse art. And the organ recital at 1 beautiful!
M. M.
This is one of Scotland's greatest treasures and houses an incredible wealth of art and artefacts from around the world.
The art collection is incredible including paintings by Monet, Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Turner and the most prized piece Christ of Saint John of the Cross by Dali.
There is a cute mini museum and a wonderful animal exhibition great for kids.
The hanging heads in the Expressions gallery is a unique sight and definitely worth a visit.
So much to see so definitely come with a good few hours to really appreciate everything on offer.
A. A.
Fascinating museum and gallery - a must see if you are visiting Glasgow for the first time!
A. F.
Great museum—fine art,artifacts etc.
ℹ️Free admission
🌺must visit
D. R. R.
I was apprehensive about visiting yet another museum but I was so wrong. This is easily one of the best attractions in Glasgow. Wonderful architecture, interesting facts and pieces. There is a lot to see and explore for ages of all generations. If you love museums and art then you will love this place.
P. T.
Great place, easy access, parking just next front door, cafe, at least 2h to see all....
J. L.
My favorite museum in the UK! Extremely well presented and informative- has low hanging art for kids to ponder. I went for the organ playing but stayed much longer!
A.
Lots of great art nicely laid out with some information. Museum is a little light on detail in places. Great organ recital at 13:00.
E. S.
A must see when in Glasgow... And, it's free! What excuse do you have? Just go and fall in love with the place. There's a fun ice rink outside for Christmas and a great light show at night!
S. S.
Not been in the galleries for a couple of years, it was great to be back in with our grandkids, they loved Sir Rodger the elephant, the dinasaurs and the aeroplane
E. B.
Free entry, very interesting and a perfect visit for a rainy day. Multiple toilets, cafe and a variety of exhibits including art, sculptures, fossils and dinosaur skeletons etc.
M. I.
Beautiful art museum with free entry. Demonstrates stuffed animals, paintings and various arts work.
T. S.
It may take more than an hour to properly see all, we only had 30 mins and wasn't enough
t. h.
Always good to revisit as we find something new every time. Interesting print exhibition and a free organ recital
D. H.
Massive - if you like to read about lots of exhibits it will require more than one visit. Beautiful old building, many exhibits on art and natural history. Nice coffee and gift shop. Highly recommended.
a. g.
Beautiful museum, free entrance, absolutely worth visiting.
W. R.
Amazing museum that I don't feel like is all that well-known outside of Glasgow. I'll have to share this grand art and culture with more people!
E. Y.
Stunning building outside and in. Nice mix of art and history. Great Cafe, lovely cakes. Limited parking
L. J.
An amazing place to visit, thousands to see and needs more than one visit to take it all in, we will be back for sure..
R. L.
Great gallery with lots to look at. Free entry and good for families.
A. H.
Beautiful building located in a lovely park. There are a lot of different types of exhibits, such as fine art, cultural artifacts, and natural history (Haggis anyone?), so plan to see what interests you. The details of the building and supplemental exhibits are interesting.
Would have appreciated more of an acknowledgement of the colonialism aspect of how some artifacts were collected, though there were some minimal efforts made.
Try to be there for an organ recital, including a video monitor of the organist's feet.
On the whole, a must see when in Glasgow.
A. N.
A wonderful selection of objects and art to keep you fascinated for hours. The organ recital at lunchtime in the Great Hall is a very nice touch.
c. s.
Fabulous museum with a varied mix of interest, I loved the spitfire hanging from the ceiling! A beautiful building and the Kelvingrove park next to it is beautiful.
M. A.
Great fun! And lovely cafe staff Erin was just so sweet and great with our child
S. D.
Lots of interesting things with no particular theme. Saw lots of animals up close that I have previously seen in person but at a distance. Wanted to see the Dali painting but it was out on loan. Enjoyed my visit.
F. 4. F.
Family day out and had a great time. Lots to see and do. Very interesting displays. Got to hear the massive organ playing live which was a fab experience for the kids. Staff are friendly and helpful. We visited the cafe on the ground floor and it was very good value for money.
B.
Great place for family and leisure tour. Not suitable for intensive knowledge learning: exhibition themes are irrelevant with each other.
E. M.
Great day out for the family. We went on a Sunday just before midday and it was very busy, especially the car park. There are two electric car spaces. Probably best going for opening time.
The food in the cafe was really tasty, only gripe was we had to wait for a while.
B. W.
A huge museum and gallery, the building itself is beautiful. A wide collection of historical objects and paintings. Make sure to stop in around 1pm to hear the organ playing. Its easy to access, a 10 min walk from the subway station and make sure to pop over to the university (it's a 5 min walk and well worth a visit too)
F. f.
The museum was wonderful, but a little busy. For me personally, the animal (taxidermied) section was the best with loads of displays about current rare and endangered animals as well as extinct and historical species. The rest (3/4) of the museum mostly concerns human history and arts, so brilliant if you're wanting a more detailed historical look at Scotland too! I would absolutely recommend a visit if you get the chance.
l. l.
Really enjoyed my visit so much to see.
J. S.
Bit of a must see on a trip to Glasgow.Theres a bit of everything to occupy yourself with ,from Spitfires to ancient Egyptian mummies. Beautiful building ,lovely big galleries this is right out of the movies .Free admission shows Scotland has got it bang on when it comes to education .My favourite was the Orrery tucked away in a gallery ,what skill to make it .
w. a.
Great place to visit. Amazing architecture and indoor design. Aptly curated sections and covers a wide array of topics. Staff was friendly and very informative. Cafe on the ground floor was also very good. Worth a visit
S. R.
Fantastic as always. Took the kids to see Dippy. Ok, all be honest, kids were expecting something greener that actually roared, but in spite of that they had an awesome time exploring everything else exhibited. They loved all the interactive exhibits dotted around the different rooms. I’ve been coming back for years and i know i’ll be continuing that tradition with my kids.
C. H.
Always a great place to visit for Adults and kids alike. It was a shame the organ recital wasn't on because of the covid restrictions but still well worth a visit and like all other museums in Glasgow it's free.
N. W.
One of the best galleries in the world! The layout is spacious and the variety of art displayed is expansive. An added bonus when I visited was an organ recital on the huge 1901 organ (daily 1pm, Sunday 3pm).
L. C.
Interesting exhibitions and impressive design. The piper organ performance was fantastic as well. What's more? Free entry also makes it a must to visit.
R. R.
Wonderful muesum. Kids will love the muesum. It's will be good learning experience for the kids. The animal display are very realistic. If you are an art lover, the gallery offers a good collection of paintings. Don't hurry up, take time to read the short description. That will make the visit more interesting.
I. L.
Fabulous! Everyone should visit this stunning museum which houses displays that interest the whole family. From ancient Egyptian mummies to Mcintosh classics this museum will keep you occupied for hours. Very friendly staff in the shops and the ground floor restaurant and easy access to all areas help to make this a must see.
D. S. T.
Ideal place to spend the weekend especially with family and kids. May not be ideal if you're a lone traveller but with a camera lots of good picture can be captured. Yes, no restriction on usage of camera. I took 3hrs to explore the entire museum. It has cafe and washrooms. Weekdays 10 to 5, weekends 11 to 5.
s. s.
Well it certainly has changed since last time I was here about 6 years ago. It was hard to find the paintings. I love to stand a look at those but I didnt find many but what I did c was really good. I loved all the heads hanging. Love this place and always visit when I'm in Glasgow
I. K.
A very large museum, but easy to digest. Lot of variety, so spend time with the sections that you find intriguing and take lots of breaks! I found some parts to be just so-so. You can of course break up your visit into multiple days, because it is free admission :) Unfortunately the Dali piece is on loan and won't be back until Dec 2022... There seems to be a free organ concert everyday at 1pm.
S. G.
I have been to many excellent galleries and museums. The Kelvingrove stands alone as the best. Both the Art Gallery and Museum are extremely well curated, engaging, and inspiring. The descriptions for every piece are informative but to the point. The Scottish art displays, in particular, were entrancing and told the story of the country as well as the city of Glasgow while being beautiful in their own right. The space is also gorgeous too and fun to explore. This has to be on your Glasgow itinerary. Be prepared to stay for hours.
L. G.
Easy parking at the museum. Lots to explore with plenty to keep the little ones amused.
A good gift shop.
There is also a small packed lunch area adjacent to the toilets, which were spotless.
We will be back.
B. R.
Lots of fun! Many interesting things to see.
R. P.
First visit in a long time. Loads of interesting exhibits to see and learn about. Will go back to see tge bits i missed
R. A.
Great Staff fantastic museum a must see when your in Glasgow
R. C.
Was a beautiful place and free to visit. Children friendly. Love looking at the animals as it is amazing created well.
H. S.
Loved it you can spend many hours in here
D. C.
Fantastic museum, especially considering that it is completely free. Exhibits included the wildlife of Scotland (present and ancient), an ancient Egypt area, and a substantial art collection. Very impressive.
A. D.
Fabulous museum. No tickets or admission fee, though a £5 donation is requested. I found the French art collection especially delightful, with works from great impressionist painters. The outside of the museum is of course stunning as well. The only thing is I wish it was a bit easier to navigate.
X. V.
Had a great experience here. Went on a tour with Artie, he went above and beyond. We joined late, so once the tour had finished he did a little personal tour for us going over the things we missed out on. Artie is a wonderful tour guide, learnt a lot and had such an enjoyable time.
P. H.
First class facility including art gallery, museum, static displays, cafe and a grand hall hosting daily lunchtime organ recitals, 3.00 on Sundays. These feature very accessible music, suitable for all ages and tastes, and are very well supported.
Well worth a visit. The gallery can be accessed easily from the sightseeing bus, which stops right outside.
S. H.
Beautiful building with so much to see inside! Lovely coffee in the ground floor cafe and friendly staff. Superb organ and well worth waiting to hear it played! Excellent place to visit and all for free!
a. m.
Free, relaxed educational and fun art gallery.
Plenty for all the family. Not too much of anything. Loved the sculptures, Glasgow boys and Dali's John of the Cross.
Not too busy, fab to be so close to real art and be allowed to photograph it for future enjoyment. Just let your kids photo stuff and talk about it later.
Fab Lunchtime organ recital too.
V. G.
Very interesting gallery. Many paintings of the famous europe painters and Scottish artists. 1 hour organ concert was exceptional. You can easily spent 3-4 hours and visit is free of charge.
M. W.
Very interesting and your family would have a great day out.
R. M.
What's not to love?
Upside: Great selection of art and collectibles some that are unique and may favourite is the Van Gough Paintings. Cafeteria has a great selection of vegetarian options. Stores are reasonably price. 1pm Live Organ show was superb surprise and great amazing experience.
Downside: washrooms are in the basement, queue line ups are long.
M. G.
First visit to Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum on a wet and rainy day in Glasgow. It's a lovely place to spend a couple of hours exploring the artefacts and the cafe, located on the lower level, is also recommended for some food and refreshments.
S. E.
Nice "little" museum and gallery. Sort of random collections, but interesting and well worth a visit if you're in Glasgow.
Nearby parks are nice and peaceful.
I. d. A.
Absolutely wonderful wonderful museum showcasing and eclectic collection of fossils, art and vintage technology. A true treasure trove of quirky objects from the past. Very nice exhibitions and very welcoming atmosphere. Lovely café in the ground flood. There is a magnificent organ and daily recitals are offered at lunchtime. One of the highlights has to be Christ of Saint John of the Cross, a magnificent work of art that has been painstakingly restored after being vandalised .

Good to return to a regular haunt. Pity the fire alarm went off just as I'd ordered coffee!

When visiting Scotland, most people had to Edenbridge, but there's another amazing city, not too far away from Edenbridge, if you like amazing Architecture, beautiful buildings amazing iron work, great city Park, and Art gallery and many more, you have to visit Glasgow.
we were blown away to how beautiful the city of Glasgow is..its layout out on a grid system, I think this how NewYork was set out, you could be mistaken when you look up at the buildings that you are in Newyork ha ha..
In fact they have have used Glasgow to film the Batman trilogy, Tom cruise has made a few movies in the streets of Glasgow, because of its likeness to Newyork city..
its not Gotham its Glasgow...
N. C.
Free to enter. This museum and gallery is fantastic. It's a great place to visit and see some great art and also learn about some of the nature that you can see in Scotland. It has pieces on display from the Glasgow Boys. If you time it right you may also get to see and hear the great organ being played in an impromptu concert. It's also great to walk through and around the Kelvingrove Park.
C. B.
Went on a Saturday afternoon and unsurprisingly, it was busy as can be. Enjoyed it, plenty to see but the quietest places were either the art as apposed to the museum exhibits. The cafe in the basement was busy, had to queue to get in so went to the first floor where a temporary cafe had been set up. Nice little selection of stuff but imagine you would get more in the bigger, basement cafe. Worth a look!
J.
Museum felt confusing. The upstairs section was nicer. Weird problematic red signs around that seemed slightly racist.
c. v.
Nice grounds, loads to see in the museum, very interesting, even for younger children with the animals/fish exhibits. It is free, but donations very welcome. It takes about 35 minutes to get to by foot from central Glasgow.
R. G. (.
Maybe on of the most impressive museum i ve ever seen. Here you can feel the UK was an empire. Great collection. Really interesting parts of history and art. A raptor, a Dali artwork. Nice pieces from impressionist masters. And a great building. Also the atmosphere was really enjoyable. You should visit.
Grandiose Sammlung. Gute Athmosphäre. Richtig angenehmer und eindrucksvoller Besuch.
S. W.
Enjoyed the Rennie Macintosh and Egyptian sections in particular. Some of the covid measures made finding your way around the one way system a bit difficult. Also disappointed that the cafe and shop were closed due to covid.
L. W.
This place is amazing. It delivered far more than I expected. A perfect treasure in the Glasgow jewellery box of culture
S. J.
Brilliant place to look around. Highly recommended.
D. O.
Amazing variety. Something for everyone, all ages. Extinct giant deer skeleton, organ music in main hall, Elvis statue, Mackintosh mural were among my favorites. Free and awesome!
A. S.
Superb building and exhibits, including a great selection of master painters that u suddenly stumble across. Excellent local history in there too. Free and closes at 5pm sharp, demonstrated by the loud shouty men chasing u out of the building!
R. H.
Absolutely excellent, its what an art galleries or is it a museum should be like. I loved the way its all jumbled up!
J. M. A.
Very impressive building, lots of things to see, although a little hodgepodge in the sense that they have art, animals, technology, history, human culture... in a very strange mix. I enjoyed the place anyway and would recommend it to anyone visiting Glasgow. You'll need at leas 2.5 or 3 hours.
N. V.
This is a must-do! We arrived thinking that we would spend a short time here and ended up staying for four and a half hours, and could have stayed longer! It was informative and engaging. It made me a little sad to see all the animal specimens (a hallmark of museums of this age), but I really liked how they acknowledged their regret that they ever engaged in this practice. The museum itself is in a beautiful building. I don't know where else you can see Egyptian artifacts, an elephant, sketches from Bergen-Belsen prisoners, a Jacobite tartan display, and two Van Gogh paintings, while listening to a pipe organ concert, all for free.
A. D.
First time visiting here today. And wow, how have we missed this wee gem. I didn't realise just how big this place was and there was so many interesting things. The kids loved it too aged 8 and 3. Plus dippy the dinosaur was there which they were really happy to see. Great wee day out.
F. S.
Some really great displays of art and artifacts. Lots of different things to see from animals to costumes and paintings. Unfortunately the Dali was on loan when we went so that was disappointing and there felt like a lot of unused empty space in the museum.
J. B.
Always a really good day out in the art gallery. They had a craft activity on under the expression heads yesterday where children got to draw their own expressions on cut outs which my five year old really enjoyed.
t.
Visited on one of my last days in Glasgow, very serendipitous that it was the once a week Sunday organ recital too (I think it was 2pm?) Really good and interesting mix of items, really unlike most museums I've been to before, 2 items seemingly placed to gather that don't correlate at all but after thought,, they do. Very beautiful, wouldn't mind living here longer! :-)
L. C.
Wonderful visit. So much to see, we must come back! Topped off by fabulous organ recital!
R. A.
A very diverse range of exhibits, and probably more there than you can fit in one visit (unless you're not interested in some specific sections). They're not insisting on prebooked tickets, just turn up, scan the bar code, enter your details for covid tracing, and you're in!
Very much enjoyed the war and consequences section with a very wide range of old weaponry. Look out for the oddities in the Scottish animals section... Quite an eye opener...
D. B.
Has a decent amount of stuff, but I managed to go around in 2 hours. I saw a lot of reviews saying you could spend all day here, but that definitely was not the case for me. Maybe if you had children that would be true?
Did love that they had an organ recital. Go on a Sunday afternoon if that's your cup of tea.
T. S.
Really nice museum, better for over 6years old in my opinion. Food is on the pricey side, so bring a picnic or venture out and there is some lovely restaurants near by.
S. S.
Good place to check all different types of collection of Arts, Especially Paintings which looks mesmerizing , there are other collections of wild life and history. Nice place to take you kids here .
S. P.
Grab any chance to see the John Byrne exhibition; A Big Adventure. Too few know and appreciate this polymathic, renaissance man. Artist, playwright and all round good egg. The range of his work is remarkable. He's really very good indeed and often bloody funny to boot.
L. R.
The museum is so much bigger than expected. It has many different types of art and from different places. Should definitely take at least 2-3 hours time to look through everything.
There is no entrance fee but they do recommend to donate at least 5£. The place is worth it!
A. H.
Went here again recently. Always a great place to go. Where else do you have free entry and get to see Dippy the dinosaur, Christ of St John of the Cross by Salvador Dali, and some drawings by Leonardo Da Vinci. Brilliant. Organ recitals at lunchtimes are good as well to hear acoustics, but people who gather tend to always be talking so find a quieter spot upstairs at the balconies to listen. 👌🏼
S. H.
Visited the John Byrne exhibition which was excellent. This is the last week and recommend a visit. Had lunch in the cafeteria good service and tasty food. Bonus of Billy Connolly also lunching there.
M. W.
John Byrne exhibition was fantastic. So nice to see his work across the arts in one place. Kids loved it too. Well worth the trip.
M. M. B.
Great space that represents Glasgows approach to museums and cultural institutions. Interpretive approach facilitates conversations amongst family groups and schools dominantly, and is accessible. But does lack the interactive elements that engage youth in other ways, with many of the dated touchscreens not even functioning and those that did offering little value.
There is an important conversation about whom the treasures stored here really belong to, but in spite of that they display beautifully in this grandiose building.
One plus and negative is that there is an overwhelming amount of exhibit themes due to the british empire having amassed so much from foreign cultures.
E. H.
Great free museum, sadly they have the Dalí painting on loan (we were excited to see it). It's a bit of a mixed bag since there's several exhibitions and they aren't really connected to each other, but the good thing about it being free is that you don't need to look at all the parts, just pick the ones you're interested in and skip the others! I wouldn't miss it if you're in Glasgow, very nicely located next to the beautiful kelvingrove park and a few minutes away from the Botanic Gardens.
I. d.
So much to see from both Scotland and worldwide. Something to interest everyone from tiny to ancient and a nice cafe downstairs
D. C.

Another one of my favourite places in Glasgow. A must visit when you’re in town. I love how all the museums are free of charge and you can donate as much as you wish. So much to see in terms of art and history. Amazing experience!

Awesome museum and art gallery not far from city centre. FREE ENTRY !!😁 so no excuses for not visiting. Superb artefacts on display catering for all tastes, great info on all exhibits. Special mini museum for the younger ones. Loads of Glasgow history on show as well as other countries exhibits making it ideal for school trips. Also holds visiting exhibitions, cost involved.
Quality exhibits from Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Salvador Dali amongst the treasures you will find all housed in this magnificent old building.
A must visit in Glasgow and remember its FREE ENTRY!!

One of the most amazing museums I’ve been to before! You definitely need a whole day for it, but it’s totally worth it. There’s a great balance of art, history, and environment. It’s also very kid friendly, but again, be prepared to spend a whole day here!

Five stars for the John Byrne and Eric Watt exhibitions - both outstanding. Facilities good. Coffee, cake, and service in coffee shop is great. Museum staff all lovely and helpful. However, the long term museum exhibits need a serious re-think and re-fresh. Overall the museum gets three stars.

Wonderful to see a Dali, Mary Cassatt and learn more about Scottish history, ancient through modern, in this beautiful building. Reminded me of the V&A in London on a smaller scale. I was in Glasgow for work and was able to enjoy a quick 2 hour look around and take in some wonderful art and surroundings. As it was free entry there's open access to all and no reason not to visit. 10 minutes from closest subway and on lovely grounds next to the university of Glasgow. Don't miss it if you enjoy a little art fix followed by a nice walk in the park.

What a fantastic building. Exhibits are diverse telling the story of Glasgow and many of Scotlands famous people. Loved the airplane hanging from the ceiling and the hall of faces.
Cracking day out

A great day out , our grandaughter loved it , but if you want to spend time wandering and pouring over the fantastic works of art and artifacts, go on your own. Children love it, there is always some activity on for the youngsters , paper bird making when we wrnt and all the kids loved it.
All in all a great day out , Mackintosh Exhibition was on , but we will return for that.
Fantastic museum and art gallery housed in an even more fantastic building.

A massive treasure trove of art and information. It is such a shame that Glasgow city council are just letting it's little sister museum THE PEOPLE'S PALACE fall into decline along with the attached gardens. Come on, Glasgow's smiles better.

Have to pre-book a free ticket, it is a best place to spend an entire day, huge collection of historic works, wild life from all around the world.

Wow! Was not expecting this museum to be so wonderful! Gave myself an hour to explore but really I needed two. Can’t wait to go back. Also I was really, really lucky to be there on a Saturday when there were people playing the organ!

Great exhibits and lots of stuff to see. Great artwork... Domestic mostly great museum. Brilliant Christmas ice skating rink. Very beautiful. Perfect for couples

Would have given it 10 stars if that was possible. Full of interesting "stuff" and a dinosaur skeleton, what more could you ask for. Staff was professional and friendly, had to fill out a form to take and use my camera tripod but that was no problem and handled very efficiently. Great place and plan to bring the grandkids very soon, they'll love it.

Fun and free. Sits close to the University which is a great visit as well. They have a coffee shop and cafe inside if your hungry.

Beautifully presented Museum, the Zoology wing was fascinating with lots of information and the Heids display was intriguing. Organ recital happens at 1pm and sounds amazing. Best of all the museum is free and is in a nice big park too.

Lots of interesting pieces from history, kids might enjoy the ore historic era more than anything. Peculiar objects related to history make your experience much pleasant

As a new comer to the city this is badly signed. Access for wheelchair users is at the back through the carpark. Once inside everything easy. An eclectic mix of exhibits

Always have a lovely time at Kelvingrove. A beautiful space to wander around with lots to see - there's always more to go back for. Cute little gift shop too.
