Nice old ruined castle in the centre of Kirkcudbrightshire. There’s not a huge amount to do or see there but it’s worth checking out and is easily accessible

Didn't go inside but it's a pretty castle right in the middle of the village that can be seen from quite far around. Fair bit of scaffolding and building repairs going on around it at the moment unfortunately.

We weren't at the castle, we stayed at the campsite in our m/ home. We were there the same time as the gala parade, and it was very good, plus the weather was very kind also. We go there about twice a year, as it's a very pleasant small town.

A quiz for the kids, friendly and welcoming staff and lots of interesting information to read as you explore the castle. I loved the secret room behind the fireplace, and it was great they'd set up the props in the kitchen to give it the feel of being lived in still. Really good fun and we were lucky the weather was nice too!

Timed it wrong with all the scaffolding work being done at present so this is not great for taking photo's inside and around the castle . Still i did take my time to look around what i could. i love castles so was slightly disappointed at this visit , but it is another Scottish castle from my bucket list

Lovely old castle with lots of atmosphere and a very helpful lady selling the tickets, but I'd like to see the restoration work completed, the scaffolding removed and the weeds growing out of the stone work killed off S the roots damage the walls!

Interesting compact castle, worth visiting if you're near Kirkcudbright, but at the moment (Sep 2017) conservation work is being undertaken and the scaffolding restricts visitor access slightly.

No trip to Kirkcudbright is complete without a visit here. An iconic building which dominates the high street, this is a great place for young and old to explore and learn more about the local history.
