Reviews of Riverside Museum
S. N.
It was an automatically delightful experience! We had been there with family and all of us enjoyed our time there. It was great to see and read about the history of automobiles ranging from the bicycle to the car and even public transportation. You need 2-3 hours to walk through the whole museum. Kids will surely like it. A great way to spend your weekend!
S. B.
This is a very comprehensive museum of modern science of transport, with quite a few interactive displays where kids can enjoy themselves all around. Displays are very detailed and showing amazing replicas (in many cases originals) of objects from the past. As a bonus, entry is free which does make a difference for bigger families. Easily couple of hours of well spent family time. Totally recommended.

Amazing museum, deserves more than 5 stars.
We went not knowing what to expect because of word of mouth and it was better than we could have asked for. Between the museum and the tall ship we spent the whole afternoon with our three kids under 6 all entertained. The 19th Century street was an amazing exhibit and one of the best I've seen in some time. In addition the interactive displays with stories and games for the children were really good and well designed.
There were a few options for places to eat there but we only stopped for a quick snack so cannot say more than that they are there.
Overall I am very impressed and would absolutely recommend you take the time to visit if you are nearby.

Brilliant transport museum. Makes you feel like you are in the past. Loads of old transport , like cars , bikes , train, trams etc. Also there are old style shops . There is a cafe inside. You can also go outside to the tall ship. It's is free you can buy food or take your own places to sit . Great trip for families or just for adults.

This museum is a must visit if you are a fan of old cars, trains, trams etc. Great place for kids. So much to see and learn. Has a large variety of transport related exhibits and some very significant vehicle models. They also have the Tall ship docked outside the museum which you can also visit and walk around.
I. M.
Fantastic way to spend an afternoon! Very close to the city centre with plenty of reasonably priced parking which is easily offset by the free entry to the museum itself. The entire place is maintained to a very high standard with a lot of very interesting exhibits with rich histories from trains to prams and subway carriages. Very educational place to visit which is nicely rounded off with a visit to the cafe upstairs which has spacious seating and great views over the Clyde, would definitely recommend, especially for kids as there are lots of interactive elements for them to enjoy.
W. W.
Absolutely fantastic! A great day out for all the family. Lots to see and do, with most of the museum being interactive and allowing you to get right up close and personal with the exhibits. They also have guided tours which are even more informative, however going without a guide is still great.
G.
Really fun and exiting.
Free to get in and explore with a recommended donation of £5 per person.
Our children loved it here and we spent hours looking at everything and taking photos! There are a lot of interactive exhibits and things to see and do, we picked up some clipboards from the HelpDesk with a Halloween themed hunt for letters around the museum
J. G.
Really good museum - loads to see and do. The Tall Ship was great. My 4 year old enjoyed the stories in the shops, and the pretend vehicles she could sit in. Cafe was fine. Only issue was the excessive heat, and the fact that the cloakroom was closed due to covid.
D. B.
Amazing place, lovely exhibits and pleasant layout. It is over two levels so ensure you make enough time to see it all as its well worth seeing everything. Great to see old cars, trains, buses all things transport related. There are two cafes on site for sit down snacks and drinks all reasonably priced.
Covid restrictions in place are low key with mask wearing optional but sanitising stations are available.

It's free and it's interesting, what more could you want?
We walked to it from the city centre. But that won't be for everyone as it's quite a walk. The museum itself is fairly accessible and had plenty to entertain the whole family. Good for a rainy day but equally good if the weather is bright and sunny.
W. C. S.
Amazing museum and exquisite display of cars and different modes of transportation: mostly from the past. Great place for kids to spend the afternoon. It’s free admissions. Also beautiful architecture of the building, close to the river and with incredible views of the city beyond. Good place to spend an afternoon.
M. C.
TL;DR - I highly recommend this gem of a museum!
The Riverside Museum (free entry) covers all forms of transportation and the part each mode played in Glasgow's history. There are also exhibits about everyday life. My absolute favorite exhibit was the reconstruction of a Glasgow street from the early 1900s.
An added bonus is The Tall Ship located directly behind the Riverside Museum. Entry is also free.
D. B.
This is by far the best Transport museum I have ever been to. Far far better than the London Transport museum and its FREE, yes FREE to get in.
It was informative, educational, amazing loads of brilliant exhibits and the cherry on top was the sailing ship moored at the rear of the museum which you could also go on. What an amazing Day I had.
A.
It was one of my best experiences, earlier we thought of not going it's just a museum but the whole time kept on saying it was worth visiting here.
You can see all the automobile history plus and live demonstrations as well of various services, go ahead and plan for this place. Free of cost not sure how they are managing such a big infra.
N. A. H.
That's an awesome place to visit to get an idea of rich history of Glasgow's transport evolution. It has got historical rails, buses, ambulances, fire engines, cars, horse carts, motor cars, the famous Arnold Clark wall and numerous other things. Kids can go inside some of these as well. Very informative!!!
J. S.
Wow! Just a massive wow. I gave a £5 donation it's only fair as it is free to visit! Fantastic trains to trams to the oldest known pedal bicycle! Fantastic place great layout loved the old shops setups too. But the one thing that amazed me was the train upstairs. Yep an actual steam/coal train locomotive upstairs... Lovely place in a very proud Glasgow to have this place to visit is amazing.
N. J.
Stunning museum with endless transportation exhibits including full-scale immersive Glasgow city street complete with shops and subway. Best transit museum I’ve been to in the UK featuring dozens of vehicles both interactive and display, lining the entirety of the museum’s floor and walls. Brilliant stop for anyone looking for an up-close museum experience. Toilets and gift shop also on offer all under free entry with suggested donation. 10/10 would highly recommend if you’re in Glasgow.
J. C.
Informative and modern museum. Interactive for the kids as you can ride the buses and trains and also a lot of the old and modern history with great information for the adults. The wee town centre is cool but would be better with a working bar. As amazing to see the old taxis and ambulances we saw as kids as it was the trains, cars and boats. Well worth the five pound suggested donation
R. P.
It's an absolutely amazing museum. There are lots of things to see. Great for children, there is so much for kids to do so a great family day out. I just wish they would open earlier. The tall ship is out the back of the museum, and that really great to see. There are not a lot of amenities around the museum, but there is a coffee and crepes cart and an ice cream cart, too.
K. H.
One of the best free museums in Glasgow. A huge building covering all modes of transport basically. My fiancé is a huge lover of ships, and there were plenty to view as Glasgow once held a place in history as a ship building area. Plenty of fun things for the kids to do as well. There are two cafe’s in the museum, and a gift shop as well. You can easily spend a day in here, as we nearly did. Highly recommended.
P. P.
Awesome museum, mainly transportation related. It takes about 1.5hours to go through the whole museum if you are planning to read all the background stories of each display. One problem though with the car wall, many interesting cars are up on top very high above the ground, can’t even see it at all. Overall good place to visit.
A.
A very enjoyable and FREE museum about the history of transportation and life in Glasgow. Particularly enjoyed the subway room, which has a replica Victorian subway car you can go into, and the Victorian street set-up with little shops you can go into. Also has a cafe, a gift shop, a picnic area, quiet spaces for those who get overwhelmed by noise (it can carry quite far), and very clean bathrooms.
S. M.
One of the best museums I’ve ever visited. The museum looks amazing, I can’t remember but I think Zaha Hadid designed it, it looks like the river’s waves the roof design. The museum layout is a bit hard to get your head around, but it’s packed with great exhibits. The boat lift is amazing, really cool. I would highly recommend this museum. I would highly recommend to donate to this great museum, and to visit it.
J. D.
Great museum. Very informative and well-designed. Lots of vehicles to see and they even made an old shopping street, complete with clips and interior to get a feeling of old times. It the fact that it's free hasn't convinced you yet, it's also great for kids!
S. A.
Super collection of vehicles with local history too. Well-presented displays, some interactive. Some items were displayed high up, which we understand was because of available space, but they were a bit hard to see, although there is plenty packed in to see already. Took my boys as toddlers years ago, came back this week with them as teenagers & they enjoyed their visit both times. Space for own picnic lunches, as well as small food counter. Car park is pay & display, but museum entrance is free, although there are donation boxes. We spent 2 hours there (we had other commitments otherwise we could have stayed longer), would say that is the minimum you would need. We did not have time to visit the tall ship moored outside the museum which is also free.
S. P.
Entrance is free. You can see lots of old cars and train engines and ships models. Great place for kids. There’s a Christmas market as well. We enjoyed our visit.
M. F.
Amazing place. The exhibits are fantastic, mostly old transport, but also other items. Free entry with a suggested donation of £5. I use a wheelchair and this is one of the must accessible places I've been, excellent. Highly recommended.
O. A.
Not to be missed! This trip back into time in the journey of transportation was a brilliant way to spend some time in Glasgow. From prams to trams to trains, cars, bikes and bicycles. This interactive historical space with the rooftop that’s shaped as the meeting of waves of the rivers is not to be missed. Don’t forget to visit the Tall Ship Glenlee berthed at the back, as this completes the tour loop
M. H.
This is a 5-star museum and worth a visit. We enjoyed the exhibits very much, particularly the Main Street section where they recreated the Glasgow of yesteryears. The gift shop also deserves 5 stars for the well curated range of souvenirs.
L. M.
This is an excellent museum. Free entry but it is definitely worth a donation. Suvh a brilliant collection of cars /trains/trams, and great exibitions around life in Glasgow many years ago. Great setting and couldn't recommend this enough.
r.
amazing museum with lots to see! could spend all day there. wonderful staff. fantastic displays. lots of interactive features as well. would recommend to all! had such an amazing time here.
T. O.
Lovely museum by the riverside.
Free entry, just walk in. An impressive collection of vehicles from wooden boats and bicycles to trains and fire engines.
Lots to look at and interact with, worth having a walk upstairs and around the complex too.
Lots of Christmas themed attractions, looks like it’d be good fun for the family.
Architectural masterpiece with beautiful mirrored windows.
M. A.
Great place for kids .This museum is free. Great to visit if you are a fan of old cars, trains etc. A lot of history. Very close to the city centre with a reasonably priced parking
K. S.
I was pleasantly surprised with this little gem. I loved the fact that there was so much to see and that you could go onto the old modes of transport. The old cobbled street with shops and tube was my favourite part. My little girl enjoyed looking for the GhostBuster scavenger hunt letters hidden around. Would highly recommend. The fact that this is free entry too is great!
Soya milk served in the cafe, clean toilets and access to lifts for those less mobile. Perfect!
z. s.
An ideal place for Automobile lovers. Lots of vehicles on display. Plus you get to experience living in a ship. The tall ship is the best part of the museum.
J. C.
A lovely family day out and the cafe is great to get a bite to eat or coffee and cake! The gift shop is fab too, lots of nice wee trinkets to remind you of a great family day out, Enjoy! I would have your car park coins ready in advance!
S. S. (.
I honestly love this museum! Honestly shocking that its free! Loads of interesting exhibits and models! There's even a full scale version of the old glasgow subway, really cool! Plus the separate musuem round the back of the ship makes this a worthwhile place to visit
P. D.
A stunning museum full of historical vehicles, even with a reconstructed street where you can visit a few "shops" and feel the atmosphere of old times. Plus you can visit a now decommissioned ship outside of the museum. All free of charge.
J. M.
Really glad we went. It took us a year to return to Scotland and visit but worth the wait. Spent around 3 hours here and each area was done differently to keep you interested.
M. M.
Absolutely amazing museum! Love the way it's all laid out and the cafe has an extensive menu to choose form. Had a really nice latte. Staff are friendly and helpful.
k. A.
The entry was free. I would have paid to visit. We spent just under 2 hours admiring the extensive collection of cars, bikes, trains and carriages etc. It has exhibitions on two floors.
a. g.
It is like going back in time when visiting this museum. Especially the revival of the alley with the shops! I loved this place , I wish I had more time to spend in front of every exhibit.
D. T.
Museum is alright. Good place to spend time with the kids.
Would be nice if the train or the vehicle is more accessible, I think people would enjoy it more.
It was Easter holiday. I was free to enter the ship.
S. H.
Always a good way to fill a few hours, especially if it's raining. Busy at weekends and public holidays but plenty of parking and can pay with Ringo £3.60 for 2 hours (you can stay much longer if you want). Cafe is great, staff very good.
L. A.
We cycled to the museum along the river so got some great views along the way. I always find this museum a bit overwhelming, there is so much to see and it is a bit dark, but it has so much to see, the Victorian Street, the many vehicles some of which you can climb on, the upstairs sections with beautiful model ships and the wonderful tall ship outside to visit. The lower floors of the tallship are being repaired just now but climbing all over the ship is still huge fun.
B. P.
Incredible collection of all sorts of vehicles, and also has a recreation of an old street in which you can visit a pub, shoemakers, etc.
Well worth a visit for all ages; this museum offers a really rich insight into the way we were.
M. D.
It was amazing to see this museum with a lot of modern and old vehicles. Especially If you have children, they will love this place. The entrance is free. There is a restaurant inside in this museum.
S. D.
Great exhibits, but the layout isn't great. The cars especially are so high up you can't see them very well. Don't forget to visit the Glenlee tall ship behind the muesum.
J. K.
We spent three hours here.
Extremely enjoyable especially time travelling in the old street with its typical shops, services (pawnshop, bar, shoe repairs, horse harness maker), and the cars and transport of those days.
Lovely merchandise in the shop.
Don’t miss the oldest postbox, and from the shop, you can get a postmark stamp saying you posted your mail from it!
J. O. (.
An brilliant day for anyone. Really takes you back throughout the decades. The immersion throughout the museum is beyond belief and can lose track of time as you digest all the information and interactions. The staff are beyond friendly and eager to answer any questions that you may have.
Z. “. F.
We visited this museum for the startling architecture by Zaha Hadid and the beautiful location. The museum is a fascinating collection of travel and technology artifacts, located on the banks of River Clyde and alongside a tall ship display. A short walk from the Glasgow subway or by bus. Entry was free and contains a bright sunlit café.
G. L.
Amazing day out for little ones! Highly recommend the Tall Ship outside as well. The staff were helpful and pleasant and the place had such an inviting atmosphere.
T. S.
Great fun day out, free parking for disabled, a designated calming space with toys, cushions, books and puzzles, ear defenders, as well as interesting interactive exhibits for lots of active learning and participation.

M. I.
Very nice museum displaying the historic and present time of transportation means. Educational and interesting. Entry is free.
G. F.
This place is paradise for a train obsessed four year old… the museum is brilliantly presented with ye olde street scenes, and fun things around every corner. The ship outside was a bell ringing deck swabbing highlight… and, unbelievably, it’s all free!
S.
Building designed by the great architect, Zaha Hadid. It is worth a visit for architecture enthusiats.
As for the museum, there are numerous transportation collections. It is free entry and worth a visit for those who are interested in transport related histories.
M. S.
It was a surprise. I love trams so much and seeing all kinds of old trams and street views of Glasgow just made my trip 1000 times better 😭🥺
A. M.
Lovely museum with lots of exhibits, mainly around transport.
The tall ship at the rear of the museum is worth a vist too.
Both free to enter.
Z. A.
Cozy historical museum to have a sight on what the city Glasgow is and how it has been developed. Good to go there with your kids as there are many activities designed to help understanding, which is educational.
V. T.
A unique experience to see all car generations in one place. And not only cars, trains, buses, bicycles, even first one. Memorable place, recommend do not avoid it.
A. P.
Fantastic museum to visit especially with little ones. It has something for everyone and when its open the tall ship is a fantastic bonus.
The museum is free although there are plenty of opportunities to donate money.
The car park is has coin only ticket machines but you can pay online or via the phone.
I've been about 3 times now and managed to stay about 2 hours each time and whilst my son has got older he's moved from looking at the trains to taking interest in the cars other retro artifacts.
A. B.
Loved looking back in time at shops and various transports from horse carriages to trams and steam trains also all varieties of 2 wheels I loved it very enjoyable also there are 2 snack bars and 1 cafe
M. W.
Brilliant museum with lots of interactive stuff for children and trip down memory lane for us oldies. Restaurant and cafe on site. Fully accessible parking, access and toilets. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Glasgow. There is no charge for entry, but donations are requested, and well worth whatever you can afford.
A. P.
A must visit in Glasgow, especially if you're interested in cars and other forms of transport! There's also a bonus of an old transport ship exhibition to the rear of the museum which is also free and a great experience for the whole family!
S. F.
A free museum based on transportation and shipbuilding. Lots of interactive activities for the kids.with an old glasgow street with old shops .the only thing I did not like was the wall of old cars, placed out of reach of finger marks. There is a nice place to have a lunch , with great staff.do not miss visiting the tall ship GLENLEE next to the museum.
E. N. (.
Great afternoon out, lots to see, some inter active stuff for kids and the tall ship was cool. Its free to get in you only have to pay parking.
J. W.
A marvellous museum, especially given that there's free admission. Lots of things to see, the oldest bike in the world, old trains/trams/buses, a recreated underground carriage and a street scene from around 100 years ago with shops that can be visited. Lots of space, friendly staff and all clean and organised. A visit likely to take at least two hours given the number of exhibits. Lots of interactive exhibits as well.
A. R.
Great free attraction to head to, kids and adults alike will enjoy it. The tall ship is also moored next to it which is free to enter and look around. Old shops, and trains, cars and prams, they have it all. Lots of informative plaques on the exhibits too x
P. R.
Very interesting vehicle museum, definitely recommend for everyone who's running out of ideas what to do in busy city such as Glesga.

Handsantizer throughout.
L. S.
One of my fav museums in Scotland. Especially fun for kids and the Ship is such a great experience as well ! Def a must try while In Glasgow!
M. E.
As an enclosed transport museum there can be few if any better. How steam enginess, trams and more were put in here beats comprehension but the experience is superb.
T. M.
You'll find a lot of things here especially on Glasgow Transport's history. A really fun place to go if you love history and transportation. Feel nostalgic during my time here
P. W.

What a brilliant Museum, not your usual stuffy old place but a real vibrant mix of things to see and do, free entry makes this one NOT to miss on a visit to Glasgow.
F. S.
Superb museum, full of all sorts of interesting machinery from lots of different time periods, well worth a visit and to crown it all off, it's free to enter.
M. H.
What a fantastic museum! So well laid out with loads of interesting information about transport, the history of transport, and the history of Glasgow through the lens of transportation. I love it. Completely free, which means you can go whenever you like and spend as long as you like so its great for when we have families with young kids visiting. Some fantastic exhibits and constantly changing and being updated. The facilities are clean, there is a good cafe and shop and the building itself is very impressive. Great location too.
K. H.
Such an array of well kept artifacts from a range of ages, so interesting to read about them and especially their connection to local Glasgow history, it was a busy satu6in half term but still easy enough to get in and walk around, amazing that it's free as well!
G. M.
A superb addition to the waterfront that has something for everyone. Brilliant displays of all kind of transport from 2 wheels and more as well as plenty ships to discover, including to Tall Ship outside; with plenty history of the area and lots of information on the displays. The architecture is not to bad either. A great place for all the family & it's free. If in Glasgow you should go, it's highly recommended!
K. C.
Amazing place, lots to see. Cafe lovely. Staff friendly and helpful. Disabled access brilliant.
L. C.
This museum is absolutely first class for lots of reasons. A great experience for all ages. Lots to see and lots to enjoy. I took a small group of children with profound and complex needs. They had a fabulous time. This couldn't have been possible without all of the amazing staff at the museum. We were welcomed, accommodated with a room for lunch and asked frequently throughout our visit if we had everything we needed.
The facilities are fabulous and made changing wee people's nappies very easy as there is a plinth and a hoist. I can do nothing more than give the museum and their wonderful staff a first class review.
K. A.
The entire museum is well arranged and its Free! 😍 Best place to bring kids and teach them about cars, trains, motorcycles and more.
N. C.
What a walk we had through the history of cars and transportation in general. That musium is a gem. The street really took me back in times. Amazing. If you going to Glasgow you should definitely visit it. Entrance is free.
F. M.
What a fantastic experience. Something Glasgow has to be proud of. Not only can one get lost for hours in the museum the tall ship and its history is superb, to be able to walk into history when you go aboard. The staff were very polite and interactive with the visitors which makes for a great experience 👍
J. H.
The transportation section was impressive but we really enjoyed the tall ship, another free museum
M. A.
This museum is lovely, especially for children who love cars and locomotives. We enjoyed our stay there. It is completely free to enter but could donate if you wish.
M. G.
Great museum with lots of interesting things. The 19th century age location impressed us the most. Of course the big trains are hard not to be spotted, cars have a nice story to tell too. Overall is a beautiful place to be and the staff is great as well.
D. R. R.
Free Attraction !!!
———————————-
Step back in time and be prepared to view the most beautiful collection of transportation in the UK and possibly the world. Kids will love this place, adults will adore it too!!
It makes a lively days out and all of this for free? I cannot recommend this place highly enough. The children can get onboard the trams, buses, trains, etc and have a fun days out.
Most importantly this place is covid secured. Staffs are also polite and helpful.
J. M.
A great museum experience housed within an incredible Zaha Hadid-designed masterpiece.
The space is as stunning inside as it is outside - The ceilings inside are quite something.
The on-site cafe is fantastic - The food is of a great quality, the coffee is delicious and the staff are really friendly and efficient.
The exhibits are well-presented but the signage is quite poor and doesn't assist guests with navigating the museum as well as they could. It's also a shame that the building's architecture seems to make general upkeep a little more difficult. There are quite a few lights out in high places which require some attention in order to keep the space feeling bright and airy. That said, these problems are easily sorted and the outside is kept in great condition.
For info, American Express cards aren't accepted here 💳🚫

Had a great time with family. It's a unique museum for vehicle lovers
D. M.
Cozy museum centred on life in the19th & 20th Century through a focus on transportation. Great for kids and adults too.
D. S.
Only had an hour to have a look around, some really good things to see, really enjoyed my visit here but I would say 2-3 hours will do the trick. You have to pay for parking but plenty is available.
T. M.
Absolutely brilliant day out. Stunning building and really interesting collection of transport and other technology. The 'street' setting is incredible. Unfortunately, the day we visited, it was very heavy rain, so we couldn't visit the tall ship or explore the outside areas, but still a thoroughly enjoyable visit. There were very young children enjoying themselves and we had a 96-year-old in our party, so it's a day for all ages. And it's free! What more can you ask for? We enjoyed lunch in the cafe, where the quality of food was excellent, as was the service. A great day out for all.
C. C.
All the exhibits are Exposed . So we’ll explained it takes you back to 1800 society just beautiful
O. v. H.
Brilliant transport museum, large variety of historical boats, trams, cars and more. The tall ship outside is stunning and I highly recommend this as a visit if you’re in Glasgow
J. M.
Great day out for all ages . Lots of vehicle history and trains amd motor cycles and buses and all steam engines and the tall ship outside on the river clyde. .loads to see . Great for kids and adults .And sometimes extra at the front like shows and rides etc .
M. H.
Like many of the major Glasgow museums, entry is free, and we used the Hop on hop off bus to visit. We have visited the museum several times before so did not spend a long time inside but did visit the Tall Ship Glenlee which we had not previously done.
D. E.
This is an excellent museum with wonderful examples of Clyde shipbuilding models. The RMS Empress of Britain in photo was largest liner sunk in WW 2 in 1940. Father rescued from it by Free Polish destroyer O R P Burza

Cost: suggested donation
A beautiful museum that weaves the stories of Britain, Glasgow in particular, with the emphasis on Transportation. Automobiles from many different periods and rarity, alongside trams, trains, and motorcycles. Glasgow being a ship-building town, there are many displays about the conversion from wind to steam and sail-paddle-screw. I really enjoyed the mock-up 1890s-1920s Glaswegian street with carriages and shops you could go into. There was particular interest placed on transportation of disabled peoples through time and how those methods were either enabling or their own hindrance. It made me think about the issue and the importance transportation to the differently-abled, so bravo to the curator. The whole place was full of children and things they can interact with, which is grand.
There are two cafe’s on premises and readially available toilets in many places. This museum is certainly for a family or school group, auto or train enthusiasts and anyone with a particular interest in history.
D. P.
A fantastic attraction! I highly recommend this museum, even if you are only vaguely interested in transport and old vehicles!
We took our 5 year old there, and he loved seeing the vehicles that are on display.
Some of our highlights were;
- three fire engines dating from the 20s, 40s and 60s
- the trams
- full sized trains
- cars from the turn of the 20th century
The museum is well staffed, very open, and has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
C. D.
Fantastic inside and out. Staff were pleasant and helpful. The exhibits were displayed with an eye for detail and great imagination. Bicycles up in the air, cars going up ramps and the old street all very well done. Visited for a couple of hours one morning whilst on holiday. Well worth a visit if you're in Glasgow.

A lovely place to visit for a few hours, or the whole day, depending on how many of the information panels you read.
The museum is well laid out with something different at every twist and turn.
It's always slightly depressing to see items you played with as a child in a museum but that's life I guess.
Entry is free but it's very easy to donate, I just 'tapped' my phone. There are plenty of facilities and the restaurant / cafe facilities seemed busy.
J. P.
Everything about the place is top notch. I just can't help but compare the old transport museum to the new one. The old street in the previous building was much better. I'm not a fan of the screens in the old street. It takes away the feeling of it being old.
D. Z.
Best Museum ever! They got massive vehicles and trains plus a great number of model ship collections, I would like spend whole day, just set there feel the old days glory.
K. P.
Visited the museum and tall ship following a recommendation by a friend. What a fabulous place! So much to see and completely free!! Don't miss it if you are in the area - very happy to make a voluntary donation.
A. S.
Good free museum of transportation, just overlook the weird green paint color. Also visit the tall ship anchored along the river, which has good access to interior spaces.
L. M.
Brilliant day trip for the kids during the holidays. Lots to do and see 😍
A. H.
Popped in to kill an hour and spent 3 hours there ( couldve been more had bus not been due ) A really fascinating look back in time to all aspects of life in the past The fact its free is amazing Well recommended
S. G.
Great museum. Free to enter with a recommended £5 donation. Good cafe for a snack.
E. D.
Fantastic experience, well worth a second visit. Highly recommended for anyone on a visit to Glasgow and it's free
L. T.
It was such a wonderful experience. So well put together and interactive. Highly recommend!
N. H.
The museum is a great place for car/train obsessed adults and children. We stayed for over an hour and explored all the different areas with our little one. It's all disabled/buggy friendly. Not open to pets.
Outside area is great for bikes/rollerskates/skateboards and there is a van that sells coffee and snacks etc.
The gift shop was shut during our visit.
S. H.
It was really interesting. The most site I like Glasgow in the past, which includes both of underground and subway.
D.
Riverside Museum and Glenlee The Tall Ship takes you back in time to experience what life was like when trams were horse carriages and the pirates we're roaming the high seas. You can visit the galley, ring the bell, and explore the depths of the ship. Restored to her former glory, Glenlee is one of only five Clydebuilt steel sailing ship still afloat, and the only one in the UK.Free to enter, Glenlee is an independent museum, dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the ship, and the maritime history of the area, for the benefit of the local community and visitors to Glasgow. There is a small souvenir shop and a cafe on the ship. Great experience!
I. G.
It’s a lovely free museum to visit, really interesting
A. M. -. S.
The Transport museum is a great place to visit for tourist and locals alike. It's free entry with donation points around and in the building. It's easy to get to and wheelchair accessible. Just about every form of transportation from history is on offer, many of which you can go inside or interact with in some regards. Great for kids, and long or short visits.

We decided to visit this place whilst in Glasgow for a few days as it was forecasted to rain the whole day so wanted something indoors. We hadn't booked because it was was last minute decision due to weather but they kindly allowed us in. Luckily it didn't rain so had a chance to explore the tall ship too. Us adults and children (age 14 and 8) really enjoyed the different displays in the museum. It was a lot bigger with loads to see and read about than I had initially thought. We ended up spending about 4 hours here so we could read and learn as much as possible. The tallship at the back and the Victoria Street inside was our favouritee. Unfortunately, the interactive things were not in use due to covid. The museum shop and cafe were also closed but there is a gift shop inside the tallship and an ice cream shop and cafe cabin outside. If you have a hop on hop off ticket, it's very easy to get to otherwise its £3 o site parking. Amazing museum and totally free.
C.
Good place to spend a few hours. Lots of exhibits and information.
G. “.
Great day out for young and old. Many memories to be had walking down the old coble street, looking at trams and vehicles of the past. Love the old steam trains too
J. S.
OMG its so so gorgeous and such an amazing museum. Its like walking through the history of mobility innovations and a nice place to hang out by the river!
K. W.
History of transportation from right here in Glasgow. Lots of crafts and fun for the young ones.
S. D.
High tech exhibits. Great location. Great views. Free entry.
d. p.
A lovely walk through the history of cars / motorcycles / trains / trams and more.
Free entry.
Highly recommend especially for kids.
J. S.
Brilliant museum. Allow one to two hours to do it properly. Lots to see and very well laid out - (even if it made me feel ancient seeing cars new in the 70s in a museum!). Free entry, (you can make a £5 donation which I did), but the car parking is chargeable. The parking ticket machines only accept coins, but you can download an app to pay and you do get a warning message before your parking time expires, which is a nice feature.
M. S.
Very nice place to discover cars, motorcycles , buses and ships history and more.
A. R.
Wonderful museum! Interactive and educational! Loved the recreation of a street in the 1920-1930s you can walk through.
K. J.
Really enjoyed this museum, lots to see.
I loved the street set up with all the shops, it really does feel like stepping back in time.
T. B.
Amazing place you could spend hours looking round and we had lunch as well. And it's free so why would you not go ?
E. W.
Really great for the disabled visitor, this was an eclectic collection all jumbled up but done in a very modern way. They had a wall of cars on shelves which was mind blowing but actually it made it difficult to see the cars on the upper shelves.
Very much enjoyed our visit.
Free entry was a bonus too.
A. T.
Great place to visit for free. Wonderful display of vintage vehicles from cars to trains and trams. Take open bus tour and get off at the museum and tall shop shop. Thanks for a great experience.
D. L.
Great museum and free to visit, although currently you have to book a slot online prior to arrival due to covid. A great mix of old bikes, boats, cars and shops and a really lovely way to see what the subway used to look like. Currently due to covid the activities are limited and you can't get onto the vehicles as you once could. There is a big car park here but you have to pay for this.
C. J.
A lovely example of the warm hospitality of the Scots. The staff there were, in a word, impeccable. The museum is home to an ecclectic collection of transportation technologies. From steam trains and early electric cars to Victorian horse-drawn wagons. Lovely, pristine examples. We especially loved the Victorian High Street reconstruction - great photo opportunity. A word of advice - do not forget to take a picture with Chitty Bang Bang!
J. V.
Nice museum full of old cars, buses, trams, steam locomotives and similar. Variety is big, although some are high on a wall and many you can see only from outside. Nevertheless there are many models and related stories and information and even for little kids (3,5 and 7) it was interesting experience and they liked it very much here. To be fair, there are interactivities, just most is "do not touch" only. Even more interactive and accessible would great.
S. F. B. S.
Great morning we had here, very educational and nostalgic really brought back fond memories for me and my wife.
10/10
M. C.
Amazing place with so much stuff to see! I definitely underestimated how much time I'd need to see it all, will have to come back. :)
P. M.
A great museum with many amazing pieces of transportation history on display.
M. D.
This is a good compact transport museum with a good number of steam locomotives, trams, cars, boats and other bits. It’s free to get in although the car park is £1.30 an hour. The recreation of a historic Glasgow street was a highlight. There’s also a tall ship docked in the Clyde behind but sadly it was shut when we visited. We happily filled three hours including eating lunch and could have stopped a bit longer if the tall ship had been open.
V.
Great museum, lots to see. Quite busy during summer holidays. Clean toilets, nice gift shop.
C. W.
Nice museum to spend an hour or 2 in. Exhibits were very good especially the lifesize recreation of an old Glasgow street with shops you could walk into
B. B.
Big WOW. What a great place to go. Amazing exhibition on all kind of vehicles with much love for details. I enjoyed the old streets and shops. Good Café. Opposite the museum there is a big sail ship to see. Best of all: everything is accessible and the staff is so friendly. Best museum in Glasgow.
M. W.
Great museum as i love cars and bikes. Brilliant.👍
a. n.
Fantastic place all for free any father and son going there would have a great day
C. G.
I popped in with my dad and son, seeing some vehicles brought back memories of going to see the trams and traisn with my grandparents when I was very young. Very nostalgic. The look on my sons face (14yo) when we showed him a cassette was priceless. It's definitely showing its age but it's free entry and plenty to see. Definitely recommend taking some food/drink tho as the vans outside are expensive
L. D.
Fantastic museum and it’s free to enter (with the option to donate).
A.
Absolutely stunning to go back in time and appreciate the beauty and heritage.
S. A.
Nice place to Visit. Kids enjoy every moment
D. P.
Very nice place with a variety of exhibits, worth visiting, it’s also free
M. R. A. d. S.
The museum has a vast collection of old means of transport and won the title of European Museum of the Year 2013. For free.
M. B.
excellent museum, great staff and plenty to see
N. R.
It's a great museum, really interesting with a lovely view of the river side and friendly staff.
S. A.
Brilliant place to take all ages. Entry to see and lots for children to learn. Saw this little gem, Hillman Imp a car produced ahead of its time.
V.
Free entrance but still possible to make donation. Overall good museum on 2 floors. Lots of old vehicle exposed like bus tram car bicycle and an old street has even been recreated where you can find shops (only the room, not real shops) and metro. Very interesting.
K. B.
Fantastic museum - go just for architecture but the name doesn't really tell you what's there, full of cars, buses, trams, bikes, subway carriages and fantastic shop recreations from Glasgow's past. Great for all ages, very accessible and fantastic digital interpretation. Wish we had longer.
A. K.
Lots of neat things to see, some things are categorized and some things are out in the middle. You can climb onto old trolleys and stuff like that.
Z. G.
An excellent place to take the kids, the history in this building is unreal! The whole place is laid out perfectly.
There's a real ship you can go on to the back of the building that's in the clyde, very fun and interesting experience. 10/10 would recommend for families or just curious about transport history.
A. H.
3.5 stars from me for this museum. There are some great exhibits but unfortunately there isn't the space to do them justice. Overall there's a sense that the space is cramped. In addition, much has always been made of the star architect design, but the building itself has always left me underwhelmed. On the plus side, there is some very good use of video, it's really good to be able to sit inside historic trams and subway cars, and the new additions such as the record shop provide excellent local colour and squeeze the most out of the available space. Definitely worth visiting, and it's great that the Tall Ship next door is now free to enter too.
S. S.
Good place to check all old style collections of Boat, Cars, Bikes, Trains .
The collections makes you feel you are in 60's and you can check how the modern vehicles has advance.
O. D.
There are lots of history of the Scottish transportation. So guys go and have fun
P. S.
Great memories of some 60 - 70's cars & earlier public transport: could still smell the pipe tobacco on the luxury Tram. The tall ship is worth a look too. Spent a good few hours looking round. Plus it was free😁
G. B.
A most enjoyable exhibition space: it might require more than one visit to take it all in.
K. R.
Totally loved the museum. Should mention the friendly staff at the entrance - though we dint manage to book a slot, he got our details as per the policy and let us in. One of the must place to be visited in Glasgow. Riverside museum and tall ship
J. B.
Great free museum, though you can make a donation. Such a wide collection of items in there and some interactive elements for kids. Vast collection of motor vehicles, 2 or 4 wheeled and trains also. As good as other museums that you would have to pay entry for.
L. M. V. T. I.
Free, fun and functional. Lots of hands on experiences for everyone. The best disabled friendly toilet/washroom I've seen outside a medical facility. Even my teenager was enthusiastic about the exhibitions. Only downside is the activity and open architecture can make it loud and distracting.
F. J.
Great free museum. Beautiful displays of vehicles.
C. S.
Great collection of old transport and street scenes. Good for a memory visit.
J. B.
I'd not been to Glasgow before & got on an open top bus tour to see some sights & fortunately this was one of the stops! What a place - I could have spent all day here. This is one of the best laid out & informative museums I have ever visited. There is something here for everyone.
L. D.
Beautiful museum, full of ancient various vehicles.
Very interesting the old Glasgow reconstruction and the spot for the subway.
Definitely worth a visit, it's free and the architectural design alone is worth the stop.
I spent there about 3 hours
K. M.
Free entry, lots of transport and Glasgow related paraphernalia. If you or someone you love likes trains/busses/cars/trams (or ships!) etc there are so many things to deep dive into!! Well worth it even if you are only slightly interested.
A. A.
Wow just wow. This is the best museum ever, and I'm talking worldwide from what we have seen. They really understand how to display their amazing items. You will need a couple of hours for sure and you will not be bored.
J. A.
Enjoyed very much - interesting and varied display from huge South African loco's to tiny tricycles. The displays have not been over refurbished and show signs of their history - which I like. Still can't quite believe that there is no entrance charge! 😊
L. M.
Fantastic day out fir the kids and it's free, the kids got to do a hunt which kept them engaged and they learned loads about the history of everything on display. We also visited the tall ship which was also free the kids had fun ringing the bell and participating in all the events a great day had by all 💯% recommend.
R. M.
Great place with lots of interesting exhibits. The street scene featuring old vehicles and shops was brilliantly done and there's lots of interactive action to keep kids large and small amused. Free entry and reasonable parking too
M. Z.
Beautiful old cars boats bikes nice clean and tidy with a lot of information
P. K.
Superb & interesting collection, well displayed. Friendly staff, who immediately offered wheelchair for my elderly disabled friend. Hop on/off bus service re-instated, so now easily accessible
D. A.
Fabulous place to visit, spent a few hours wandering around and seeing all the displays. Had a light lunch in the restaurant which was lovely and strolled back to the subway which is only a few minutes walk away. Great place and free to visit (although they do ask for donations)
R. M.
Brilliant free museum. The variety of vehicles was stunning, I especially enjoyed the vehicles which you could go into. I felt like a child again. I loved the fake street with little shops, and the subway exhibit.
M. N.
Wow— this place is way bigger than I thought, and each nook and cranny has been cleverly used for different exhibits. We only spent an hour or so in here, but easily could have spent a whole day. It’s free to get in— so if you have an extra hour or so, go!
L. L.
A free museum you could spend days without even be bored.
You will learn so much on the history of transportation (train, cars, boat, etc…) and discover the life of a Glasgow street in the late XIXs thanks to an outstanding reconstitution.
A. S.
Great montage of historical evolution and lifestyle. Awesome dock view of the ship and extravagant open space. Perfect for short weekend trip. You'll have option of icecreams and rides on the entrance.
E. N.
This museum on the banks of the Clyde is a terrific place to visit. If you take the hop on hop off tour of Glasgow then it is well worthwhile hoping off at this wonderful museum. It is also free. The collections of old cars and trains are brilliant.
D. D.
Excellent place to visit free just give a contribution
S. M.
Loads to see here. My favourite is the old motorcycles. Something for everyone
S. E.
Go early if you want to see and read everything we ran out of time. So much more there than I expected. Staff very helpful and crazy to think it runs on donations. Make sure you donate this place should be helped to stay for future visitors
J. F.
Excellent place to visit for both the young and old . set out very well with plenty of space to see everything , and there is a lot to see covering almost all modes of transport. Entry to the museum is free it also has a good sized carpark outside and the pay at the metre parking charges are reasonable . Definitely worth to put on your to visit list
C. v. d. V.
A very eclectic collection of transportation. Trains, cars, bikes and baby prams!
M.
Excellent day out. £8 in a taxi from city centre and you reach the transport museum known as the riverside museum. Inside you will find a number of steam train engines in all their glory and a traction engine along with every car motorcycle pedal cycle, ship and even a Sinclair C5. Also a very educational exhibit dedicated to the Lockerbie disaster and the advancement in airline security since.
Outside is an original cargo sailboat from the early 1900’s. Sailing out of Glasgow and Liverpool all over the world transporting goods from Sidney to cape town with life stories of crew from the era featuring their own personal letters and logs.
We spent around 5 hours here and left because our feet hurt. By no means had we seen all.
A couple of eating options on site - we visited the restaurant which is more cafe in nature and price -£1.99 for soup (home made) and crusty bread
Final points, the museum is free but donations are welcomed. They have many interactive features and tasks for younger kids to stay engaged and make sure you have your return transport to Glasgow pre-arranged (which we didn’t) and unfortunately spent a while calling around trying to get a taxi home.
Brilliant day out. Reminds you of the engineering and technological wonders us Scot’s have contributed to the world in bye-gone era’s
M. D.
Great place, from an old street to trams, trolly buses, cycles, motorcycles and trains there is loads of transport methods that will draw your attention. If you like boats then there are models and outside an old sailing ship. On site cafe for a sit down and beverage.
S. C.
Went here during a weekend and honestly it's a great place to visit with a lot of interesting things to see, especially all the nice small activities that are there for the children. For people who are avid fans of cars or trains this is definitely a place worth visiting.
A. C.
Great for a walk down memory lane. Lots of information available. Good place to take kids on a rainy day. Entrance is free although a donation is always welcomed
A. M.
I had heard great things about this place so my expectations were high. I was left slightly underwhelmed though it is an interesting place with some super exhibits. The restaurant was disappointing and felt I should have settled for the cafe which is hidden on the first floor. I spent about an hour or so in the museum.
J. K.
This is a lovely building with an excellent cafe. Staff were superb. My only complaint was that my sandwich came with a chilli jam which was not included in the description and didn't want. I am certain they would have changed it if asked.
B. L.
Great day out with the family. Also its all totally free but would recommend a wee donation. Lot's of old vehicles to explore and interact with. Didn't go into the café so can't comment on that.
k. m.
Great place to visit.
Educative experience for both adults and kids.
Entry to the ship is from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm only from Wednesday to Sunday.( even though they say it's until 4:00 pm )
J. K.
Wonderful place to spend a couple of hours with the kids.
Our two year old grandson loved learning about red "yellow" and green lights at their display.
Loads of other hard on learning experiences too.
And a lot of reminiscing for us 9ld timers
Absolutely free with wonderful helpful staff and good cafeteria choices.
R. T.
Nice place to go to. Lots of antique vehicles. You can learn about transport history there. Friendly staff as well.
Free to get into anyway, not a bad idea to get somewhere to take a short break during the day.
K. F.
Excellent free museum with some well thought out street-type exhibitions. Much is a mish-mash however, that looked like insufficient planning. No chronological order to lots of exhibits and most of the cars didn't seem to have any method in their site high above. Maybe space is at a premium though? Like other Glasgow City museums, the explanatory blurb is mounted too low down and not easy to read for the older generation who make up much of the clientele. Nice café with good staff and choice of food and snacks.
M. G.
A great place to go for a trip back and time. There are always seasonal changes too.
C. T. P.
Lovely place with amazing experiences. Highly recommended
F. M.
Love going here to see a wide variety of exhibits of different modes of transport from times gone by. There is also a replication of a street and a subway station. Was there with my son and my grandson, and my grandson loved it.
P. S.
You have to go. Free to get in. This place is packed with transport, the past, shops of years ago, trams, busses, so much and too much to list. The museum is fun for all ages. With something for everyone. The record shop of the past was one of my favourites. Plan to spend at least 2 to 3 hours to see everything. There is an eye opener display about the Lockerbie Panam bomb. We got the tour bus to the museum. There is a large car park. You have to go, it is really a good family day out.
S. P.
An incredible Transport Museum. A wonderful collection. Glasgow, prior to the hegemony of first Labour and now SNP governance, was one of the World's major cities. We invented the steam ship. We built locomotives for the World. And, much more.
Reservations. Cafés closed early for no good reason. Likewise, the Museum itself; 5pm.
Staff V friendly.
A. G.
Wonderful place to visit all age groups would enjoy ...lots to see ....cars ..motorbikes ...trains buses old shops the list is massive ....Free admission.... but be nice and put donation in box
S. T.
Great place to explore with kids! Our son loves all things transport and loved being able to see all the buses, trains, bikes and cars. The only thing that was upsetting was the fact he couldn't get onto/into some of the exhibits.
q.
Many things to see. Free entrance is bonus!
A. S.
This museum is amazing. Every form of transportation is represented. The collection is vast and extremely well designed. It is perfect for anyone interest in cars or trains. It is especially a wonderful museum for children. The tall ship is absolutely amazing. Free admission makes this an extremely inexpensive day out. Nice cafe for a meal or cup of tea.
M. B.
Great. Disappointed we didn't get there to late and had to rush through the museum.
N. A.
Brilliant place for kids and adults. Well worth a visit and handy for Partick station. The little cafe upstairs has very overpriced free-from options, but a good view of the river.
G. W.
Fantastic place to wander and look at transportation from times gone by. Really helpful volunteers on hand with stories about the exhibits. The old fashioned Street is great to walk through and there was a Christmas fair on when we were there so lots of stalls to look at.
Ю. П.
Very interesting place especially for boys 😉
A.
Such an entertaining and fun museum!
Tons to see and learn. It's also free! But pls donate if you want this museum to stay for the coming generation.
G. W.
Brilliant place that is always worth a visit . Some of the exhibits are difficult to see properly because of their positioning on the walls . The ships display is particularly of interest as my Grandfather was a shipyard worker .
B. O. V.
A wonderful experience of variety of transport models. A must see at Glasgow. Thus museum of transport is built in the Glasgow harbour in place an old Shipyard. This has become now the city’s old transport collection which was earlier kept at Kelvin Hall. It has got a vast collections of cars, locomotive, buses, cycles etc. It got exhibits of over 3000 items. The building is designed with a frontal Zig-zagging flow towards the river symbolises the connection between the city and river. Zaha Hadid Architects have made this design.
J. O.
Fab day out .. highly recommend
I. H.
Place is massive inside and out grand kids loved it. Unfortunately I remember driving a lot of the cars on show does this mean I'm a museum peace too.
L. J.
Absolutely loved it. And its free ! Whats not to like
G. S.
Fantastic place to visit and the tall ship is amazing and it's free.
G. P.
Stunning museum with endless transportation exhibits including full-scale immersive Glasgow . Best transit museum , lining the entirety of the museum’s floor and walls. Brilliant stop for anyone looking for an up-close museum experience.
S. n.
A great museum about transport. Plenty of things to see and I have never seen so many locomotives in one building! Great for the family but might be crowded on weekends and school holidays due to families taking kids there. If you like quiet viewings, might be better during the week. Has cafe inside but if you head out to the Glenlee, the tall ship moored behind the museum, there is a cafe there below deck. Great place to visit.
H. S.
Great place to visit . Free entry , lots for kids . Great to see the displays through the ages. Nice gift shop and cute coffee stall outside.
A. R.
Come for the cars be amazed at the architecture and explore the tall ship. This has to be one of the best places to visit in Scotland. It's not just about cars it's also about the history of Glasgow. You can take a trip down memory lane and visit a Glasgow street back in the hey day and learn about the shops and life from the early 20th century. Then walk round the amazing displays of cars, motor bikes, trains and even a subway ride. There is so much to do here and great for kids with fun activities like putting out a tenement fire or driving a train.
A trip here is not complete without a look around the tall ship. This really is a voyage of discovery. Clamber through the ship exploring the different roles the ship played during its long life. Don't forget to help wash the decks, my two little ones spent at least 15 minutes doing this both going in and coming out.
There are lots of places to grab a coffee or a bite to eat with a nice cafe on the second floor of the museum, a great cafe in the tall ship that has a good selection of sandwiches etc. If you fancy something more filling then head to the restaurant where you can get a really amazing meal and all of it at reasonable prices.
All in all a full day out and a very enjoyable one.
K. L.
Great rainy day outing for toddlers!! Lots to see and talk about. Plenty of hands in exhibits too. Friendly cafe. Easy parking.
R. D.
We had an amazing experience while exploring this museum and the ship behind the museum. My kids loved this place and we had to drag them out afterwards. Its beautiful outside the building. Plenty of parking and nice coffee truck outside the museum. Its a perfect family hanging out location.
B. T.
This is a great museum. It is free but there is a charge for parking. £4.80 for 3 hours for example. There are a lot of different modes of transportation to enjoy. My favorite parts were the old street facade with the various stores and human interest stories. Very interesting insight into various aspects of the history of Glasgow. I also enjoyed the tall ship outside as my second favorite item at the museum. There's more than enough variety here for the whole family to find something interesting.
T. M.
Great exhibition and FREE as well. Saying that, would highly advise donating in the donation station as it definitely worth it. Great family day out
S. M.
Amazing museum full of nostalgic vehicles. The old style street that they built is the best. Can't believe this place is free to enter so mad ensure I donated. Will visit again. With such a small space there is so much to see. Keeps the kids happy and entertained too.
P. S.
Overall a well designed museum, the tall ship is unfortunately closed on Mondays and Tuesdays so I missed that, but if you have interest in the transportation history of Scotland, I can suggest a stop by.
C. K.
Good exhibit specially old buses
E. E.
Free museum. The building is quite an eye-catcher. But the museum itself was too crammed. The best exhibit was where they have recreated an old Street with shops, cars etc.
V. S.
Must visit place in Glasgow!
One of the best Transport Museum! And Free entry is like cherry on top of cake!
Very well kept and informative. You can easily spend half day overhere exploring history of transport mediums. Ideal for all ages.
Big thumbs up from me and obviously a must visit place if you're in Glasgow!
N. S.
Very interesting museum showing the great industrial heritage of Glasgow. Couldn’t stay long enough to see all exhibits, unfortunately. Could have done with more time and less spouse!
S.
Great place, if you visit the museum as a family or with youth, then it's a place for you to show them how the transport sector is developed that fast by witnessing lots of classic and different sorts of it.
G. G.
It is one of the most attractive museums that I have ever visited! The contents inside the museum are mostly about transportation. You can find the revolutionary of any kinds of mode of transportation, namely bike, bicyles, buses, trains, trams, airplanes, and ships. There is a ship conveyor in the second floor that contains various types of ships, their specs, history, etc. The information display is very informative and user friendly too! It is a very nice place to bring young children to gain their interests in mode of transportation.
G.
I would highly recommend this museum for the entire family if you’re in Glasgow. It’s and especially great option for days when the weather isn’t cooperating. The curators have done a great job with blending history into the exhibits. There are
Interactive videos for kids and really amazing little short films for adults. They have recreated old Glasgow here and it’s a really great experience. Oh and the ship is awesome too!
L. F. M. c.
So beautiful museum. You can't miss it. Have parking no to expensive and the entrance is free. The ship is amazing
S.
It's the first time I've been to the riverside museum and I would definitely go back. There is loads to see and great for people of all ages. I went with my parents and they loved it too. It's a great day out for families. The boat is great too. Admission is free but you pay for parking, which we didn't mind because the museum was free.
F. D.
The Riverside Museum is quite an architecturally impressive building to see from the outside and the inside is just as nice. It's not a very large museum, but it does have a number of interesting expositions. I was especially impressed by the locomotives on display and the history behind them. Being up close to one you can't help not thinking what a piece of engineering it is.
Most of the displays will have at least a quick description of their history or a video about it. Plenty of knowledge to be gained about the history of transport. Best part of it is that it's free to go in, but you do have places to donate as well.
Outside there is an old ship which, although interesting to see, it's mostly a children's attraction. However, it does offer a bit of an insight on how much naval commerce has advanced in a short period of time. It's an interactive display for the kids too.
There's plenty of parking available on sight which was fairly cheap as far as I can remember.
A. R.
It's a lovely place to visit. They have good collection of vehicles and they are well maintained. The staff is very helpful. However, the only drawback that I think is the lighting. As it gets dark early in winters, the Museum becomes dark too cause there is not enough lighting in there. Overall, good experience and lovely parking space.
A. R.
Lots of models & historic vehicles.
B. H.
Incredible transport collection including cars, buses, trams and trains all together in this wonderful venue. The icing on the cake is admission is free.
K. L.
Oh this place was absolutely amazing! It offers beautiful cars, bikes, cycles, trams and ship models from earlier centuries. You can easily spend 2 hours here admiring these beauties and reading interesting facts and their origins.
They also have enough activities for kids and adults. And the best part is. No entry fee! Don't forget to take a tour of the stunning ship outside. It closes pretty early...3.30pm.
A. S.
Had some time to kill in Glasgow and decided to research highly rated museums. The Riverside Museum made me feel like a kid again. The amount of displays they have is astounding. They have every, and I mean EVERY, type of transportation at this museum. Not only do they have cars, trucks, and boats, but they also have displays of skateboards, bicycles, and planes. This would be a great place to take your kids for a few hours.
P. K.
My wife, kids and I visited here and spent several hours just walking around seeing all the old methods of Transport. My eldest daughter loved it, was great for her to see all the old trams and buses. She especially loved going onto the Tall Ship outside. This was a great experience for her.
We would have been more than happy to pay into this Museum, but it was completely free, it certainly would be complete value for money if there was a charge.
We'll definitely return back here as we all had so much fun.
D. P.
Glasgow's incredible transport museum, housed in the purpose built Riverside building - a spectacular collection of all sorts of vehicles spanning hundreds of years of innovation.
Make sure not to miss the huge steam locomotives, the wall of cars, and definitely jump on board the tall ship!
Entrance to the museum is free (as with most of Glasgow's museum attractions), including a visit aboard the tall ship moored outside the exhibition hall.
G. B.
What an amazing experience. And for free! The historic street recreation is absolutely worth the journey. And if you love cars then it's not to be missed! Highly recommend you walk outside and venture into the tall ship as well. Simply lovely.
w.
I didn't even get to see everything in the museum during the 2 hours I was there. Also, there is no entry fee. Oh yeah and there's a huge ship at the back which you can visit as well. Overall I think the Riverside Museum is a fantastic place to visit.
J. F.
Great place, spent about three and a half hours here. Went on the tall ship as well. Grand morning out, well worth a visit.
T. B.
Had a nice time with my family
D. F.
Free entry what more could you want
T. B.
I love visiting here when I visit Glasgow. It's especially good if you have kids! I can't recommend a visit enough. It's architecture worth seeing (Just for the parents!) One of the best presented places I've been to!
There is loads to do and explore. Lots of bus's and trams to climb on (nothing moving mind!). Very big trains to touch and climb on!
They have this really good little street where you can explore all the shops and "underground" subway stations.
Cafe's are good and there is lots of good facilities like badly changing. It's basically geared up for kids!
Don't forget to visit the tall ship just out the back!
R. P.
Nice day out with family. Having delicious food and plenty of artifacts to see , you might need to spend the entire day in order to cover the entire museum.
P. d. P.
This is a wonderful museum with free entry. It shows cars, motorcycles, trains, trams, and to a lesser extent some non-transport items. Especially for car enthusiasts this will be a must-visit museum. Still, anyone will find something of their interest. Although it is a bit lacking in catalog organisation, with everything just mixed without any clear logic in order.
F. W.
This is just fantastic. Everything from back in the day transport related. There are some real national treasures here. Great place to come with the family as entry is free. We had some lunch in the hull of the tall ship as well. Food was reasonably priced and great tasting . Great place for a family day out.
J. B.
Even though some exhibits were closed, and the cafe etc. We still had a great time in here. I can't wait to get back in when I've got more time and all the exhibits are open!
J. A.
Its entrance is free of cost.
You can donate money if you want.
M. S.
Plenty to see suiting adults and children. Can get quite crowded however it's free entry so you can always come back at a different time. Parking is pay and display so you need to know how long you'll be though you can always pop out and get another ticket.
A minor criticism is that the museum is quite echoey and noisier than necessary.
Don't miss a visit to the Tall Ship at the back of the museum. It's also free. Suitable for children too.
A. A.
If you like cars, motorcycles, busses, ships and more of the like then this is a great place. Its free but worth a big admission fee. The quality of the exhibits are world class. You can wander around for many hours. I have been several times and I live in the U.S.
F. R.
Great maritime experience on the Tall Ship and the museum has got a lot to offer such as wide range of old school cars, train's, etc. There is also a space for children under the deck on the ship and inside museum. Highly recommended!
W. M.
Excellent place to visit nice seeing all the different moads of transport of a bygone era. Free entry to museum.
V. S.
The Riverside Museum is a great adventure for the whole family. Very kind friendly but not boring for adults either. It's completely free, has pretty incredible artifacts (like the world's oldest bicycle) and a lot of interactive things to do (like climbing into an old subway car from the Glasgow subway). Overall a great look into Scottish history, and the history of transportation around the world.
T. B.
Great museum fantastic selection of vintage cars, trains, bikes, motorbikes and model ships. the museum has disabled access and hearing aid access. Good cafe and museum is free access. another fantastic day out with kids and its free. If your a visitor pick up one fact sheets tell you all about award winning design of the museum.
J. B.
Beautiful Relics reclaiming ground lost when big industry died in Glasgow. A light and vibrant home for memories of a simpler time.
A. M.
A wee family visit to the museum. I like this place. It has recent and further back vehicles and forms of transport and uses the height of walls well though the compromise us you can't touch everything. Disabled access is good, with platform lifts up to the old steam trains to get close look at the engines. Also liked having child size toilet in the ladies toilet which was handy for our child. Love the old street incorporating pawn brokers, cobblers and photographers allows for lots of interaction and there are interactive screens everywhere which are child friendly. It looks like the Tall Ship berthed at the back is now free, but we didn't go due to the rain ☔. Well worth a visit for the views over the Clyde too and it's free (with suggested donations box available on access/leaving) , though the parking is approx £5 for 3 hours which is fine for a wander and a snack in the cafe. Also like the shop full of some traditional and modern Scottish fayre.
D. M.
A huge and varied range of items in the Riverside Museum from steam engines, horse driven carriages, cars, motorcycles and push bikes to models of Queen Mary and QEII. I was disappointed that some of the artifacts were so far out of reach being displayed high up above the floor. Great visit though.
T. M.
Better than I thought it would be. Lots of things to see and very informative. Plenty of places for me to rest while the young un ran about looking at all the exhibits, got on the trams and busses and so on. Handy having a couple cafes reasonably priced and plenty toilets. The tall ship tied up on the quay outside was impressive and I was really pleased that there was a lift in it to go tween decks. Highly recommended for a 2 to 4 hour visit, particularly as it's very accessible for disabled and elderly.
P. R. (.
I really love the Riverside museum. Lots to see and do. It is also exceptionally child friendly. A top attraction for families in Glasgow.
Entry is free with a recommended donation of £5.
The tall ship behind the Riverside is a separate museum. It is also brilliant but consider where you want to drop your donation if you cannot afford both.
s. h.
Spacious building with a big mix of exhibits...mostly trains and vehicles. Tall ship moored outside is an added dimension. All interesting with lots of video and interactive exhibts. No charge just suggested donation. Good day out for all ages.
P. C.
Great fun, especially with wee ones who can run around and play with a lot of the interactive stuff. In the Street there's a recreation of some shops including a pub I used to go to!
D.
A very interesting, engaging and interactive museum for every age. My favourite part is the ship and the representation of the shops and the market years ago. You can also have more fun by trying on the costumes available. We did and we really enjoyed it!
L. L.
Great place, absolutely loads to see and learn. Interactive info stations. Great wee cafe and plenty places in and around to sit n eat a packed lunch if u take one with you. Tall ship at back offers added variety to learning experience too. Free entry to the lot, just option of a donation to the museum which it deffo deserves.
M. B.
Recommended by our server at Brewdog, we walked 15 minutes in the rain and were thoroughly delighted with the superb layout and items included in this family friendly museum. Getting the chance to see the complete inside of a tall ship was a treat - and all for free! Unbelievable.
A. X.
Amazing place, must to see. Practical info: free entrance and a huge paid parking £2/h . You can see not only different sort of transportation but go back in time walking on Glasgow streets and visit the shops, bar and subway. This museum is great for all ages, highly reccomend.
L. D.
It's OK but doesn't have the atmosphere of the Kelvin Hall from many years ago, feels kinda flat , the street is good with the stuck penny and buildings etc but still not the same, however this is a personal opinion and people should enjoy it for themselves 🙂
A.
One of the best museums I've ever been to. I do love transport though. The displays here are amazing. And it's free. Burger stall outside is very basic. Might be better inside cafe.
R. S.
As the name suggests this museum is on the north bank of the River Clyde. Transportation is the main theme with a nice touch of an old Glasgow street. The museum has a small second floor with a great view of the first floor. It's also very child friendly.
E. T.
Another great and free museum in Glasgow. That one is particularly suited for families with young (or not so young) kids, as the diversity of the transportation is great. The museum also hosts several cafes, and the tall ship (also free admission) which is well worth the visit (three decks can be explorred, giving a nice view of the life onboard). I particularly enjoyed the reconstruction of a Victorian street... Plus the staff and guides and very friendly and welcoming!
B. P.
This is a great place to visit in Glasgow. You can see ancient cycles, motors and many more. It is quite near to city and you can reach there by walk. Most importantly you can see the magnificent view of Glasgow from outside of the museum. A must go place in Glasgow. I highly recommend this place.
A. G.
Took my little girl and my niece for "a little walk" around the museum and Tall Ship... next thing we know its 16:45 and we had been there for over 2 hours! Love the museum. If you are taking children, grab a clipboard and pencil when you arrive (just inside main entrance) and answer the questions as you walk round. Kids got a sticker, colouring pencils and a wee colouring/quiz book on completion.
L. P.
A wonderful museum like a time machine! We had so much fun even though we are grown up! It was definitely worth the 40-minute-walk from the city centre.
S. S.
Packed from floor to ceiling with amazing stuff, from cars, trucks, bikes, steam engines... and lots more. And it's free to get in. Well worth a visit
C. S.
The Riverside Museum offers a lot of different very interesting items ranging from old cars and machinery over to a historic sailship in very good condition. The entrance is free and it is also very child friendly. Which makes it a perfect place to learn something about the history of Glasgow and Great Britain as well as seeing a historic ship from the inside. This should be on anyone's list who visits the city.
c. s.
Great free transport museum. Decent cafe and located on the dockside near the science centre, the tall ship outside is great to see as well.
L. B.
A great place to roam around in a world of yesteryear and absolutely free, donations are very welcomed the place is spotlessly clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful 😃 all in all excellent!!!
i. l.
Rainy day in Glasgow go here.
Firstly it's free, not massive, but packed full of things to see, loved the car wall.
Lots of explanations and films to watch, had an enjoyable couple of hours here
M. d.
Loved the old transport museum as a kid but love going here for a walk through time in the old street seeing the old cars and nice salmon sandwiches and lovely soup in cafe was surprisingly large portions
Stunning views down the clyde on a sunny day
a. r.
Riverside Museum of Transport and Technology was a beautiful surprise to me , since I went there not knowing anything about it. Lots of history from earlier centuries. You can easily spend 2 hours there admiring every single item and reading interesting facts and their origins. It's a huge collection from cars to trains. A must visit in Glasgow...and it's free! Amazing
c. c.
It's such s beautiful museum, worth visiting and taking the kids round,
M. N.
Best place to visit especially if you are a tourist get to know more about vintage machines and also enjoy riverside views with coffee
D. G.
Great place. Lots to do and see. Would definitely go back. You need plenty of time to see everything
P. R.
Very nice museum rich of local scottish technogical history. Love the architecture and the way they present information.
T. R.
Excellent museum. Not massive so you can get around it comfortably and see everything. Naturally biased towards the Clyde and its ship building heritage but lots of other interesting stuff to see as well. Enjoyed it. Well worth a visit. Oh, and it's free to get in. 👍
t. w. g.
Great experience especially with young children. Very educational.
N. T.
Very interesting museum with many vehicles . The best part here is the tall ship.
I. M.
First of all, as with all Glasgows best museums, it is free but you have to pay for car parking which is pricey. The museum has something for everyone and great for kids.
I knocked a star off as I do not like the layout. Cars up a wall. Come on, you cannot see these exhibits so not user friendly.
Always something new to see and as a bonus there is the Glen Lee 3 masted sailing ship to visit again for free.
S. “. S.
Easily the best museum of transportation, culture, and history that I've seen. The exhibits are extremely engaging and fun. I learned a lot!
O. M.
Great day out with the grandkids , lots to see , do & explore 😀...think we mite have enjoyed it a wee bit more than them 🤣🤣
F. R.
Called in during our hop and ride tour of Glasgow. So much to see, it was deceptive from outside. Ashame we needed to get back into the centre of Glasgow as there was so much more to see. Well worth a visit.
W. A.
The museum its amazing. A lot of thinks to do and see. Unique and very educational place.
E. a.
Free entry, lovely place. Nice cafe, and brilliant exhibits
W. W.
First visit for ten years, just as interesting as before. Large models of actual Clyde-built ships.
F.
Soooooo much fun.. A transport museum taking u back in time to vintage Scotland and waaaaaaay back before. Some interactive games and the tall boat is super -crew know alot about their boat and are happy to answer a whoooooole bunch of questions.
S. T. 4.
Educational, interactive and fun for anybody. Great for kids and free to enter.
A. G.
One of the best tourist places to visit in glasgow, both fir young n old to enjoy a day out, plenty of things 2 see inside n outside..
Worth visiting
A. C.
I'm a fan of transportation museums. This is a great place for the family, or anyone really. I went solo and spent a out an hour here. The hop on/off bus stops here and a lot of people get off. The Glenlee ship is located right behind it. This museum is free to enjoy. There is a mock up of an old town with shops you can visit with some original furnishings and old transport along the street. It even contains the world's second Roll Royce and a huge collection of cars and bikes.
N. D.
Great day out for all ages and the family lots of space for kids to play and run around. Free entry disabled parking and huge car park
R. C.
My wife and I took my 20 months old son here who loves all types of cars and motorcycles.
He had an absolute blast!
Wasn't too busy so didn't feel rushed and lot's to see and do including the tall ship.
I can see us becoming regulars here as we all loved it.
a. c.
Good free museum but as every body says the wall of cars is a disappointment as you can't see them.
R. T.
This is the best museum by far - rivals the same type in London.
Free to enter, a cafe if needed, friendly, helpful staff, but most importantly - the displays are fantastic!
The Tall Ship is wonderful.
And don't forget to check out the first floor for the ship carousel.
Cannot recommend this place enough
C.
The museum itself is good, however after traveling up the westcoast by train I discovered that the bus they state on their own website that takes you from Glasgow central no longer runs, be prepared to spend £15 just in taxis to get there from the station.
I get that the bus isn't run by them but they are still advertising it on their website, if I had known beforehand I could have planned the day better instead of waiting two hours for buses that never appeared.
A. W.
An excellent museum and culture centre with many antique cars, buses, trams, trains and automobiles and the centre piece of the tall ship sitting quayside, a dizzying array probably too many to take in on one visit. Great views of the river upstream and downstream and if you're on the north side of the city there's a ferry from Govan. Very child friendly place and the bonus is it's free
T. M.
Just a fabulous way to spend a few hours here at this massive Transport museum .it houses all sorts of things from a giant Sth African train to a skateboard used by Tony Hawk , lots of stuff on history and all forms of Glaswegian transport through the years such as trams , subway cars and boats built on the Clyde , dificult to pick out a favourite as there was so much to see but i did like the atmospheric Glasgow street form the turn of the 19th century , lots of toilets and a large cafe make this a definite visit
B. P. (.
It's one of the best Transport museam, no doubt about it. It has lots of historical collection of vehicles and showcases Glasgow earlier days transport facilities. The tall ship experience also good
S. P.
This place was really neat. We came just to see the tall ship next door, but found this museum a pleasant surprise. This building has several rooms bursting with the history of transportation from planes to trains to scooters to bicycles to horse-drawn carriages. Also some scenes or sets you can walk through of different hostorical periods.
J. K.
If you are in Glasgow, you have to visit the Riverside Museum. Free entry. Fans of James Bond can find the famous Aston Martin in there. I loved the replica of an old street and of course the different models and ways of public transport.
A. D.
Nice musuem that's well worth a visit
d. v.
Lovely place to bring anyone kids or adults. It's great to see all the older vehicles and other modes of transport. The cafes are also nice to get yourself a good scran. It also doesn't cost to get it so if you ever want to take your family out its a nice place to go.
K. J.
Really interesting museum. Well laid out, light & airy. I particularly liked the Victorian street scene with it's shops. Cars, trams, model ships, trains & lots more + the tall ship outside with it's own café.
R. R.
Great fun and learning for all the family. Amazing that it's free entry. You have an option to donate.
Only down-side Rd getting there if you don't have a car. It's about a 15 minute walk from the nearest Subway (Kelvingrove).
s. l.
What a great day out. There is a recreated street with cobbles and old shops, including the subway! The range of historic items is huge, from unfeasibly massive steam engines to tiny wee tricycles! The restaurant is very reasonably priced with lovely fresh food and friendly staff, we were served right away.
N.
Free to visit however a donation is recommended. Riverside museum has lots of transport to view, our kids had a lovely day out wondering about. We went on an inset school day so it was busy but not so crowded that the kids couldn't have fun. If you're visiting don't forget to visit the traffic lights on the first floor it is truly amazing how much time kids want to spend crossing a road
J. G.
First time being to this one and was blown away with all the different things and the whole set up is fantastic, when with my 6 year old and she was kept entertained all the time with different things.
R. W.
Excellent little museum. Great exhibition showing many forms of transport used over the passed few hundred years. Really worth a visit if you're in the area. Free entry, though the car park isn't. Enough to keep all ages interested
M. P.
Extraordinary experience (even during Covid 1!) Fantastic variety of the themes and items. Highly recommended for whole families.
C. R.
Worth a visit if you have children especially. It’s free (much appreciated) and a great way to spend 60-90 minutes learning about transportation history/culture of Glasgow. On the hop on hop off buss route.
J. J. P. R.
I remember I went to this museum in Glasgow, Scotland 🏴, UK 🇬🇧 with my father on the 26th September 2012 and the museum was absolutely amazing. It's all about vehicles such as cars and locomotives.
It's probably one of the best museums in the UK 🇬🇧.
We are the visitors from Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪.
A. M.
This is an interesting display. Some of the vehicles are, unfortunately, obstructed by the large sign boards in front of them.
A good collection but the displays are too static to be of interest to children.
Accessible.
R. H.
If you're into the history of transport around Glasgow this is a free, beautiful museum that's absolutely worth checking out. We found this by accident and still spent an hour or so and could spend more. Not my cup of tea but this will absolutely hit some target markets for some people and couldn't recommend it enough to those interested.
P. A.
Well worth a visit. Excellent collection of different types of transport along with views of the river
J. L.
We took out 4 year old granddaughter here and she had a ball!!
Absolutely amazing place she was mesmerised by the ships especially.
The information and detail of all the treasures in this place is just amazing
We will definitely go back at a later date..
Loved it !!
Jacqueline 😁 xx
R. E.
An absolute hidden gem, unbelievable amount of things on display and free.
T. S.
The only thing bad about it is that it is a little small, if it was bigger we could enjoy more of that amazing place. Like most museums in the UK it has free admission, and the collection of old cars owned by the museum is impressive, a few trains but most of all, the cars. Being informative, fun and unique, I dare say that the riverside museum is a must-see attraction in Glasgow.
J. J.
Great place to visit with kids. Lots of exhibits and there's something for everyone.
My kids really enjoyed the tall ship and the ability to fully explore it, even below decks. Seeing all of the trolly cars, cars, bicycles, subway cars and carriages was fun.
C. P.
Excellent FREE tourist attraction in Glasgow. It has a whole replica of a typical Glasgow Street in the 1900s and hundreds of models of transport
Worth a day out
I. B.
Brilliant day out for the family and there's always plenty to do. The displays are interactive and it's great being able to get up close to such old modes of transport. Highly recommended plus it's free. Only downside is that you have to pay for parking
M. W.
Great place. Free too.. Brill for kids
C. W.
A fascinating museum full of fun and interesting exhibits, though I do wish the selection of souvenirs in the shop had been wider - replicas of some of the vehicles on display would have been a nice touch, and would have convinced me to part with some cash.
j. B.
So many exhibits I was there for ages. Grateful for the cafe. People there very friendly and well informed.
T. O. (. W.
It is a great place to visit. Olden cars brings back all good memories. I have a enjoyed myself really. I believe you enjoyed as well no matter what age you are. Also museum free entry I believe everyone pays for car parking (including disabled badge holders).
Regards
A. A.
An interesting place to visit with family especially children. The vintage cars on display are a delight to see along with their history which is interesting and informative The entry is free and one can sit and enjoy some sun time in the fresh air outside close to the ship tethered in the water.
C. C.
A huge and eclectic collection of transportation artifacts, from cars to bikes to trains, from models of ships to iconic vehicles that changed the world. This is a great place to wander, reminisce about modes of transportation that have faded into the past, imagine the places some of these vehicles have seen, and learn about the work and effort that went into many of their designs. Bonus is that there is a big parking lot if you're driving, it's easily accessible via public transport, and the Glen Lee historic three-masted sailing ship is just next door on the River Clyde. And it's all FREE, though donations are appreciated.
J. J.
Great time at museum lots to see , wheelchair friendly , cafe closed when we visited
p. s.
Brilliant place to visit, loads to see and experience. Free. Kids will love it. Real moored ship to explore, realistic street scene, excellent variety of vehicles. Free ferry across the water to visit ancient stones.
K. B.
Plenty parking space, accessible and family friendly. Upstairs is a small cafe which can cater your lunch or coffee needs. Beautiful place definitely recommended
K. G.
Really good museum. Way better than you would expect.
E. W.
Great experience, the place is massive so there's lots to see, from cars to trains to ships to fashion--and a nice little cafe inside, too. Plenty of room for kids, although it's not a playground. Tip: take the free ferry across the river when you use the rear exit, and visit the Govan Old Parish Church!
P. K.
This museum was quite low on my list. And it was a huge mistake. Great collection of almost all means of transport presented in very interesting way. Good options for children too. Old trains, trams, even a ship, all with a very interesting story to tell. Definitely a must see in Glasgow. Remote location but can be accessed with subway and 5 min walk. It's free but don't forget to donate as we need more such museums!
A.
Looked very interesting but did not have time to look around only had 40 minutes shame. There was plenty of items from past to have a look at but did not have time to read info took photos of some items. They have any think from cars trains motor bikes boat etc. go outside to view ships from past. Will add photos later.
M. W.
What a superb museum!
Beautifully laid out, LOADS to see!
Cafe on board the ship great value for money & super cheerful staff 👍
Highly recommended
D. D.
Great place to visit for children and big kids alike. Loved the variety of trains, cars, buses and models of the great ships built in Glasgow. The museum is free, but a donation is a good idea to allow the work to continue 😀 great shop and cafe serving lovely food. Just loved this place
M. C.
Great museum a lot to look at. The ship was great
m.
Very interesting, great exhibits too. Scotland obviously is very proud of its car manufacturing heritage brands, and so it should!
L. J.
What amazing attention to detail here. Great to be able to board and explore a tall ship. Also great architecture. Shame it is so messy next to the river and there is no obvious walking path next to the river.
M. S.
Very interesting museum - we think that this one is even better than Transport Museum in London.
Big collection of cars and motorcycles.
L. J. S. S.
A great place to visit. Perfect for kids and adults.
G.
I think it's great to see all the old cars and bikes and the old Street is nice but still feel like the old Transport Museum was better as not most of the cars look like Matchbox cars on the wall and can't get quite as up close as you did when I was young.
Good day out for the kids but for old kids that remember the old one at Kelvinhall it's a bit of a letdown in my opinion.
J. W.
Kids love it. Architecture exciting. Vehicle exhibits generally poor as they are mounted too high. Tall ship is great. As is the café and staff
M.
Very interesting museum. There’s a lot to see and learn. You can spend a few hours easily.
U. P.
Nice museum to roam around and get to know glasgow history.
N. L.
A fantastic museum. A past winner of European Museum of the Year and deservedly so.
A varied and well put together display providing interest for all - it's not just about transport. Don't forget the tall ship moored behind.
Well worth the visit - and it's free.
K. F.
Fantastic transport museum. Loads of interactive displays and as far as I can tell, unique amongst Transport museums in that it covers all wheeled transport alongside maritime displays and artefacts covering Clyde shipbuilding and Glasgow's maritime history. The Glenlee sailing cargo ship is moored outside and is worth a visit too Free to enter. Recommended.
J. C.
Excellent place to visit. Old and young will love it alike.
M. “. M.
First visit was well worth it. So many interesting displays. A bit of nostalgia for me too. We also visited the cafe where ghe staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I'd highly recommend visiting.
J.
Very Interesting museum. Thoroughly enjoyed every bit which is difficult to say if you are not a lover of museums. Lots to see and there is cafe available inside the museum. The entry is free.
S. P.
Very kind and helpful staff. Obliged with the use of a wheelchair for my client. Amazing toilet facilities for disabled people. Very wheelchair friendly. Plenty places to stop and rest. Exelent cafe too.
M. G.
Fantastic day out with my husband and daughter. The staff are so friendly and passionate about the museum, this shines through when they tell your historical tales. It's great you can donate too as this all helps towards the running of the museum. I would give it more than 5* if I could. My husband loved the cars and I loved the mock street and shops.
D. R.
Great place to visit. Wide variety of stuff to look at from cars, motorbikes, trucks, trains etc. Fine collection. Not too busy due to covid booking time slots so you have plenty time and space to have a good look around. My daughter is 4 and she loved it. Highly recommend.
A. K.
Worth seeing mainly about transport, but the Glasgow street themed 100 years ago is interesting. The museum could do with a bit extended opening hours on some days.
P. 6.
Great museum, free entry and you can get up close and personal to a lot of the exhibits. Great wee cafe/restaurant also👍
A. P.
Top class and is free great day for the family
K. M.

I took my little boy to the Riverside museum. I've not visited since the transport museum was in it's previous site and I was not disappointed. The exhibits are plentiful and well laid out. We had lunch in the cafe and the food was lovely!

So much history with a touch of everything, you really should set aside a full day. The sailing ship was terrific, the reprodiction of an 1800s street eye opening. Loved it, hated thatcwe only had 2 hours!

Amazing display of ancient and modern modes of transport in well presented settings including shops and businesses also like a folk museum. Has a good reception area, shop, cafe and toilets with lots of parking in a Clydeside setting.

Great museum. Loads to see and the old street reconstruction is amazing! A lot of exhibitions closed due to covid which was a shame but we'd definitely go back

Great place to visit (for Free) a great collection of cars and trams etc. I must visit for anyone who has an interest in this type of thing. Maybe not the most interactive place for kids, but maybe for slightly older kids (I.e the hubby)

Well worth a visit if you’re ever in glasgow. Plenty to see inside as well as the tall ship outside.
The bullying itself is pretty epic too.
Gives a real feel inside of what the trams and glasgow used to be like.

One of my favourite places in Glasgow.
Not very big, but very well designed

Fascinating place with a wide range of different vehicles and historical depictions of their use. Free of charge to enter. Building was designed by Zaha Hadid, so take note of the interesting and distinct architecture of the building.

Was a pleasant trip, fond memories of the vehicles in real life (and the old transport museum)... Good use of the space within... It's a shame the area around/on the Clyde side is so run down/overgrown

Cool building and also very nice content and the free entry makes it a no brainier!

It's really good museum to go to for free. It has a small street to show you what Glasgow would look like back in the day. You are also able to go inside some of the set up shops and vehicles to explore the inside of them. It's a great wee place if you're stuck for ideas on a rainy day for the kids.

Excellent displays well presented in a building of considerable architectural significance. Great day out for both adults and children.

Large, comprehensive museum of transport in and around Glasgow since the 18th century. Superb collection of original, mostly historic vehicles, many of which visitors can climb into, and multimedia features. Also many nooks where one can grab a snack while wandering around the exhibits, most of which are very informative. Also museum café with good views of Glasgow. Housed in a new Zaha Hadid-designed building opened in 2012 on the banks of the River Clyde, with nice views from the terrace of local landmarks along its banks. Only (ironic) drawback is that it’s not exactly convenient to reach by public transit. Ferry across river to the Gowan district and one bus line (the 100) goes there. Easily reached by car, though. Can spend several hours exploring if desired. Good destination indoors also for rainy days.

Just incredible. We've been to the Coventry Transport museum and now Glasgow and I've got to say, this one was different but also brilliant. The tall ship is a must! Seeped in history, incredible story and how much back breaking work got it in fine form. Great day out, made a donation and enjoyed a coffee in the cafe. The kids had a cracking time. Covid secure and we felt very safe! Highly recommended.

I get why people take kids here - it’s brilliant! Great space, cleverly sectioned our with interactive zones everywhere. Nice cafe too.

The museum takes you back - back to the ironclad past of Glasgow's industrial epoch. When the Clyde was the shipyard of the World. The daily live of ordinary Glaswigans is recreated in the form of a street lined with Edwardian shops, cinemas and an typical pub.The products of the shipyards and factories are displayed: trams, trains buses and bicycles. Anything that moved people on land or sea seemed to have been made in Glasgow. Finish with a visit to the tallship anchored in the bay.
