M. 1.Great museum. Set up in a fantastic building with various classrooms set up for different eras and display rooms with interactive displays. The boys and girls cloakrooms have costumes for kids dress up. Cafe inside. No parking.
R. S.Located in the district of Kingston, Scotland street school museum has wonderfully preserved the evolution of education system in Scotland in the 2Oth century. We were fascinated by the exhibits. I definitely recommend it to anyone interested in history and education. The employees there are very knowledgeable and welcoming. My 8 year old daughter was shown all the toys commonly used by both boys and girls in Scottish schools in the last century and she could play with some of them.

C. F.A great free attraction in Glasgow. They have weekly showings of classic movies in their cosy theater and the building is beautiful. Great for all ages but especially good for kids.

S. F.My daughter had been watching the Back in Time for School series so loved being able to get into the classrooms and re-enact what she'd seen. I also went to school in a building of the same era and it was fun to spot all the similarities. Great little museum.
R. C.Slightly disappointing. I brought an 8-year old for the first time. No signs or anything warning that we cannot get into half the rooms because the Citizens’ Theatre are using them and they are shut off - even on a Sunday morning. I can fully understand why you can’t sit on the old furniture but try to explain to a child why they can’t go into and/or use a room because there are two adults in it chatting! Would have to think twice before I recommend this place any more.
A. C.Brilliant, whether you're interested in architecture (the stunning school building was designed by Mackintosh) or the history of schooling in Glasgow this museum is great for the whole family.
We loved the classrooms mocked up from different years and the toy exhibit in the ground floor (although seeing toys I played with as a kid in a display cabinet made me feel old!)
There's a fantastic cafe on the ground floor, but the best thing is the whole museum is free!
b.Staff were very helpful and friendly with the kids activities. You get free parking at the subway if you ask for a voucher when entering/leaving the museum, there is no information available for this that I could see on display. Also you need to get your ticket validated at the subway ticket office, no signage for this either.
P. M.Educationally informative. Virtual reality figures night help to bring it alive. Grand children interested but a more high tech presentation would help to bring it to life. Certainly invoked a lot of memories for me. Free parking ticket provided by staff made the experience entirely free. Thank you
T. K. S. B.A quiet place . It gave the atmosphere such as the space and safety( form the stairs and high ceilings). Saw some of the classrooms which looked like lecture theatres. A peaceful place.
J. W.This really deserves to be used more. Please, everybody, visit this and then visit again. That might encourage a bit more spending on the maintenance that's needed to keep Charles Rennie Macintosh 's building intact. Fine architecture and a good exhibition - too good and too interesting to be left to crumble.
S. D.It's good but could be better if they included a couple of rooms with a brief history of all Glasgow schools and former schools. Would tap in to nostalgia for locals, increase visitor numbers. It lost some points because there was a hot wheel on it.

First, it's an excellent school museum
Second and more importantly, it's an original Charles Rene McIntosh building. Breathtaking especially when you consider that this really was a functioning state school.

D. C.What a fabulous experience ... the actress Lesley Robertson acting as Miss James today gave a stellar performance as to what school days would have been like back in 1939. I cannot recommend this visit enough.
D. M.Great place to go and visit. I went for the CRM Architecture and the amazing stairwell windows. The displays of schooling in Scotland through the ages are well presented. Lovely friendly and helpful staff too.
A. G.First visit to the school and i'm 64 and come from Glasgow, I must try harder! Great facility and superb CRM building. Staff add to the great experience offered in a visit there. Wasn't too pleased to see the 'strap' there, painful memories, but took it like a man and held back the tears.

S. H.Absolutely fantastic experience at Scotland street school museum today. WWII demonstration was a brilliant opportunity to let the kids see how schools and kids operated during the 30s and 40s. Would be a shame if this was closed.b
M. R.Great place for a wee day out and like most Glasgow museums its free. Leave a donation. Would be great if they opened up the janitors house once its done also put some old style playground toys outside like hoops and the stick etc. but a great place.

M. D.I went to school here many moons ago. Many memories. Now over 60 but I still have a couple of friends I'm in touch with still after all these years.Took my children to visit the museum before we emigrated to Autralia. We had a fabulous visit.

B. S.An excellent example of a 20th century school that your parents or grandparents would be familiar with. Designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh no less. If your not impressed by the teaching approach, you will be amazed by the architecture.

T. P.This is my all time favourite museum in Glasgow! I haven't visited since I was in my teens. I thoroughly enjoyed my recent visit. There were some toys for children to play with, as well as some fun summer crafts to try out. I enjoyed the photography exhibition on the second floor, depicting life in Glasgow in years gone by. I also enjoyed the fantastic exhibition on "Gaswegasians", which was a fascinating insight into the wonderful diversity in Glasgow!
However, the best part of the museum is definitely the preserved classrooms on the top floor. It feels like you're going back in time! You can even try on a dunce cap and sit in the teacher's chair!
My only suggestion for improvement is that I'd like to see more crafts, objects etc of antiquity. My memory is of the museum having artefacts such as toys, clothes, materials to look at. I'd like to be pulled back in time to enjoy more immersive experiences.

A.I am very fond previous pupil of this school and find that it is quite a disgrace that such a historic building isn't being kept up to standards by the cities parks department for its gardening and after talks with Nicola Sturgeon who had previous said that things would be done to ensure the preservation of the school and the museum. Now, I would like to personally vouch myself as a volunteer to clear the playground and the bathrooms in which after seeing, are easy fixes as these two areas should never have reached such poor states. I would do this weekly to ensure that people world wide would have the best oppertunity to see life in the older schools from our eyes.

An historic journey for the younger generation that may allow them to realise the significant differences in both the facilities and the teaching methods. How would they survive in an environment that was authoritainian and without the distraction of computers, phones or even calculators.
Everyone can appreciate the magnificent MacIntosh surroundings.

W. W.OMG. A MUST SEE. A MUST SEE. This museum/relic is perfectly preserved in a state of readiness. What I mean by that is most things are original but it's design and use is ageless and simplistically stunning. Not many of this kind of places left hence A MUST SEE. It has been adapted for wheel chair users and has a lift inside that allowed wheel chair users to fully experience the sheer audacity of this building. There is no street parking. XxxwarningXxx the available parking across the street from the school belongs to the underground spt. If you have a bramble card then you can park here for an hourly rate which is quite cheap. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A BRAMBLE CARD THEN FLAT FEE OF £6 APPLIES NO MATTER HOW LONG YOUR PARKED. Sorry had to get that across as I made the mistake in thinking it was hourly parking rates and spent an hour in the school and cost me £6 for parking. However was worth it as the visiting experience of this place was just heart warming to say the least....please visit

The Museum is free entry to all visitors if your on vacation itw worth jumping on subway to Sheilds road directy opposite the museum or you can take local buses 89 or 90 both stop nearby.
