Excellent hidden attraction just outside Skelmorlie. " The only fully restored nuclear monitoring post in the West of Scotland ". Limited space so booking is essential. Frank the museum curator was an observer at this actual monitoring station & Pete helped install some of the original communication equipment. The knowledge they both share with the tours is excellent & detailed. There is even a mockup above ground stocked with equipment from another bunker for those not able to access the bunker using the original ladder. There is limited parking out on the road. Well worth a visit. EXCELLENT !!! Only open at the weekend from 1pm to 5pm April to September.

Excellent time. Frank was amazing and gave us his own time to explain all about the bunker etc and all the things that went on years ago regarding nuclear attack detections. So glad we went and as an extra bonus what beautiful views across the Clyde! Well worth a trip to see.

The directions brought me to an empty field.
Impressive how well they hid the bunker.

Not something you see every day! Fantastic, go visit!!!
Fabulous visit to Skelmorlie Secret Bunker today. Franks interpretation, knowledge and passion, having formally served in the Royal Observer Corp, creates a detailed insight into the role it played during cold war threat and before.
Considering only 2 remaining Scottish bunkers are open to the public the conservation and preservation of this important site is a credit to the team and a unique experience. Huge developments at the site allow access and engagement for all, with live video footage, tel links and above ground reconstruction (opening soon), for those unable to descend to the bunker. The museum and WW2 post are great additions since I last visited and full of interesting exhibits and equipment, many fully functioning!
As a local, it is fascinating to visit the bunker, who knew what was happening on the doorstep! My son and I felt totally Covid safe with the protocols Frank has put in place and are very grateful to him for accommodating us at short notice. My son wanted to write a review himself, see below.....
5 stars all day! It was a great time learning about how you would detect nuclear substance in the air during the cold war and all the different technology they used during the cold war and WW2. Our host (Frank) was detailed with his information keeping us engaged in what he was talking about which really helped. It was good that our host used to be a volunteer for the Corps during the cold war. I would totally recommend you go to the bunker as it makes it interesting and going down the ladders was good.

Although a small site, it carries a lot of history (both human and military) and shows you a glimpse to a different time. Jim and Frank are two of the bunker’s keepers and guides, very nice people and so knowledgable. We enjoyed their company and hope others will go and visit the site, it’s worth every minute. Keep up the good work :)

Apologies but this is a late posting of a review for the Skelmorlie secret bunker which we visited between 14 - 21 Aug 2020 during a stay at Wemyss bay. The host and guide (Frank) was extremely helpful in arranging our visit for myself, my wife & my son, although only my son & I actually went down into the bunker. At that time Frank has just implemented a robust Covid regime which worked extremely well while allowing us to take the full tour. Frank was an excellent guide and was very knowledgeable as he had been a volunteer for many years of its operation. The little exhibition hut was also fascinating and kept my son engaged throughout. A really unusual place to visit and well woth the effort. Thanks Frank for a great few hours.

Brilliant, really interesting place, like a step back in time. It's crazy to think these were operating until 1991. This is the only one restored and open to the public in Scotland. Great experience, highly recommended.
