Reviews of St. Anthony's Well
i. n. i.
A very nice and quiet place. I do not recommend it for families with young children, large hills. Old forest, lots of tiny streams. Convenient parking space. Access road in bad condition, drive carefully
A. T.
A very pretty place and the water was so clean. Tastes lovely to. Lots of bird life. Also felt a bit eerie sometimes. Not the easiest place to find and the roads close to it are very rutted and rough. Great place for walkers but we found it very slippery and muddy so wellies recommended.
A. R.
It's such a stunning place to visit, very peaceful and relaxing.
The well is crystal clear now it has been dredged but the ground near the steps are so muddy it puts alot of people off. Could there possibly have a gravel or stone ground to walk on to get into the well so the mud isn't causing anymore issues.

What a lovely historical find . The well has been cleared and the bottom can be seen . The water fresh and cold . Locals have put up rope swings for fun . Took a picnic and was awesome
D. S.
Nice short walk from where we are staying on Jubilee Road. Lovely quite woodlands and great to see the well. Was a bit too cold to get in though 🥶. …

Great spot for a cold dip. Lovely clean water, 10° in the middle of a hot August day. Hilly woodland with some rope swings too
S. G.
Lovely place for walking very scenic watch all the pot holes whichever you drive to get to the well.

We regularly visit the well to collect the best spring water in the area. There is a small bathing place in the forest, it is so beautiful and magical, but the water is very fresh and it will definitely wake you up!

A beautiful display of nature' s autumnal colours, and St Anthony's Well. Wish I could time travel😆 …
K. J.
Beautiful and tranquil. Thank you to the folk who cleared it out. You can now see the bottom and the water is perfectly clear. Dipping in it is a dream. A lovely 11°C. Perfect
J. E.
Interesting, enjoyed the walk through the woods, definitely worth a visit.
H. A.
Beautiful spot for a dip on a hot day

This lives up to its reputation and then some. The icy cool waters apparently hold magical properties for those willing to bathe in them. Wonderfully remote yet accessible all the same
J.
Not easy to find if you are not local to area but very picturesque once you do. A quiet, (when we were there early evening), picturesque place. Beautiful woodland to explore.
D. B.
It's an old school well with small bathing pool.
If you happened upon it you might be pleasantly surprised.
If you sought is out you may be disappointed.
Unless you like wells.
In which case you really like this.
If you were stood nearby looking in the wrong direction you wood see the picture attached.
Hope that helps.

Bringing my kids to somewhere I used to go as a child is just magical. Beautiful place with history.
If anyone can get in the well past their ankles, you're braver than me!
G. H.
We went here in the evening waiting for the sun to go down in March and the water was icy cold but the area was so quiet and tranquil. Will go again in the summer and skinny dip for sure.

Been trying to find this place for a number of years as I only had a picture in my head that my mum had told me before she passed. It is such a magical place will be visiting again verry soon
B. M.
My favourite place for our barbecue when in was a teenager. We used the well to chill our flagons of cider.
The Spring has the best tasting water you will ever taste.
H. K.
Best potable spring water. Nice man made pool if you're brave enough to skinny dip in cold water. All in beautiful woods.
L. P.
Beautiful setting. Parking difficult. Sacred place only spoilt by people shrieking as they took selfies in the water.
J. B.
Used to be my little alone spot, beautiful and historic! Now becoming more of a known area and is strewn with litter and poorly tended camp fires
C. A.
Made by the monks of Flaxley. Steps lead down into a square pool about the size of a small room. Well worth the walk. The well is fed by the middle of three springs, the other 2 providing streams either side Which all join together at the bottom.
C. W.
A place with presence in a wonderful forest location. My girlfriend put some of the water on her bad back and said it made her feel better!
T. L.
Lovely little well set in the woods. You can drink the water so a great place to stop for a refill
A. B.
The water from this place helps to cure your not only skin problems, but also bring out your inner peace. Do have a dive in!
H. C.
An eerily spiritual place. Perfect for a visit on the summer where the well is always fresh and cold - prefect drinking too 😁 …

A nice little secret gem! As well as the well, many walk ways and some mini waterfalls/streams. Not 5 stars due to the road you use to get here is very rough and uneven, use extra care accessing area. But a must see when visiting the forest fo Dean!
