Reviews of Mappa Mundi Ltd

What an amazing experience, well worth the entry fee.
I was always convinced the Mappa Mundi was scrolled up like a sea chart - who knew! The volunteers are soooo knowledgeable, there is no such thing as a daft question. The exhibition is well structured and informs before you see the real thing. You could spend forever looking at all the detail. It feels so much like the creators were hovering above but using poetic licence on size and scale. This so worth a visit if you are into history.

Wonderful exhibition detailing the background and context behind the creation of mediaeval the Mappa Mundi and also a rare ‘chained library’. Entrance via the cathedral. Well worth it!

The Mappa Mundi is certainly a fascinating piece of history which I'm so happy to have seen. I personally had a very pleasant experience with staff, who were extremely knowledgable about the Mappa Mundi and chained library, which I was extremely excited to discover was at the back, and was a lovely example of preservation and yet, interaction. We were encouraged to observe and see everything at play, and there were curated exhibits from visitors and people who became involved in, say, the calligraphy panel, where there was a smile inducing addition from an 8 year old quoting 'Albert einstene'. People, in my experience, seemed to be the forefront of the exhibit considering it is rather small, but I think that, as well as the restorations they have managed to achieve, makes the ticket price worth it. Super interesting, but gets very busy, especially when complying with COVID guidelines, so keep that in mind and maybe visit before the peak, as you may have to wait before entering for a while.

Excellent visit.
Short, introductory video was clear, precise, not overfilled with information and a good way to then see the map. The volume could have been a little higher, however.
We were able to stand right in front of the map, had all the time we wanted to look and an excellent guide, who was informative and humorous, pointing out both the important and nonsensical things. She was very good indeed.
In our own time we could then look at the small exhibition and then go into the Chained Library where once again the guide was very informative and so proud of the library.
For £6 it is an excellent way to learn and enjoy. We spend nearly 2 hours there. Bargain.

Awesome artefact from the middle ages. Price of ticket also includes entry to the chained library.

The exhibition was very interesting and the volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed it and it was good value too at only £6 each for entry.

Wow a must see in the cathedral itself, you pay to go in but it's worth it.

Nice museum, has some info about the map 🗺 and chained library. Queues can be at least 30 mins when busy. Due to the pandemic, it’s limited people in the chamber. It would be good if video had subtitles as it can be quite hard to hear it over the noise of other people.

Excellent room guides brought the map and library alive. Well worth a visit.

Been waiting for years to see this and was not disappointed. No surly men selling tickets, friendly guy on the chained library who informed me I could see ANY book provided I had permission and a good reason (student?). Well worth the entrance fee. Just wish I had had had more time

Excellent exhibition, especially for the price. Some of the guides were very insightful, particularly Paul Newton. He clearly had a passion for medieval history and made our visit

Seeing the Mappa Mundi was the reason for our visit to Hereford and we were not disappointed. The artefact is an amazing historical object and to be able to get so close and study it without being rushed was a privilege. The lighting and high quality glass meant it was very clear to observe. Truly stunning! The Chained Library was an excellent bonus too. Not to be missed…

Fascinating early world map (what they thought was the world) from the 1300s which is well worth seeing! When you see the names of the countries translated into English it makes a lot more sense, as you can find on the souvenir teatowels available in the shop.

The Mappa Mundi itself is well worth seeing. It is a beautiful document with so many details one could study it all day and still find more surprises. One can also get very close as it is just a short distance behind glass.
The museum itself I felt to be disappointing and a bit of a wasted opportunity. The information available is lightweight and sparse. In the chained library there is little to see apart from chained books in cases. I was hoping to see much more of the documents themselves. I don't think anything much has changed since I last visited many years ago. For the £6 admission fee I think the custodians should make more of an effort, it looks old and tired. Such a great document should be treated as more than a money printing machine.

Wow! What an incredible document. Great exhibition, as is the Chained Library.

It was interesting, but at £6 each expensive. We were disappointed, in the actual map in its size and definition.
