Reviews of Camera Museum

The perfect match between photographer and coffee lover! Inside you can feel the passion for photography, amazing pics on the wall of famous artist, a lot of vintage camera to see and some to try (see the pics) good coffee and a nice museum on the basement (only £1). Highly recommended 👍👍
E. R.
A great place for light refreshments after a visit to the British Museum. Located in museum st a few minutes walk away. A wonderful themed cafe with cameras and prints on the walls and a camera museum in the basement. Food is very good with a varied menu. Prices are reasonable.
W. B.
Very interesting exhibition. It's good to learn about rhe development and changes in cameras around the world.
1 pound admission fee is fine.
They offer camera repairment service as well.
P. P.
This spot is small, but super full of history, nostalgia and 'camera cool' tour first camera is here...and your grandads, lovely guys too

Great place, nice ambiance and friendly people, the museum is a nice collection with some rare cameras, the cafe is great and there's also a camera shop that do repairs
J. C.
A fascinating place to visit if you have an interest in the history of photography. Lots of cameras - as you might expect, with the opportunity to handle a few, and reminisce manual focusing amongst other things. The cafe is a welcome inclusion, with an opportunity to sit outside in the sunshine. Helpful and informative staff too. We were so pleased that they demonstrated the technical beauty of Hasselblad cameras with joy and enthusiasm. It was a pleasure to visit and meet the team.
P. L.
The Camera Museum is an awesome little find for any camera lover but frankly, even if you just fancy a coffee, this place rocks. It's just sooooo much more interesting than a chain store cafe. There's games and books and it's a great place to chat photography and blow an hour or so out. Massive, highly, big tip recommend.
M. I.
I went in to get a second opinion on a very specific camera repair, and the staff could not have done anymore to help me. They went above and beyond for me, which I did not expect. I didn't get a chance to look around the museum, but I will next time I visit. Great place and amazing to see somewhere keeping the excitement about analogue photography alive. A great place for a brew as well if you need a break from the madness of central London or just to go and talk about and find out more about cameras and film.
M. S.
If you’re a vintage photography enthusiast or if you just want to go look at some old cameras this is the great little place to visit.
The cafe is cosy and comfortable and serve a very good cup of coffee.
There’s a couple of guys out back who will sell you that Hasselblad you know you need.
The camera museum and brilliantly put together and best of all you can walk away with a fancy canvas bag from the gift shop afterwards.
C. L.
Warm, cosy ambiance. Delicious coffee, friendly staff. Intriguing museum. My first visit, but definitely not my last!
d.
A lovely Coffee Shop with friendly & welcoming staff who served us some tasty hot panini😊 and tea. We shall visit again.
There is a Camera service centre & the Camera Museum downstairs for all the Camera Lovers😊

Visited with a friend one Friday afternoon at the start of October. This is a great place to visit for any one interested in photographic camera's and or to purchase pre-owned camera's and or equipment. We spoke to the staff in regards to various camera's they have for sale (they have a massive knowledge in regards to the items they sell), the shop is also a cafe so it's a great place to sit and enjoy a beverage. We paid the £1 to look around the small museum room down stairs, literally every wall is covered in camera's from over the years. Will definitely be re-visiting to purchase a pre-loved camera and a coffee in the near future.
R. F.
When I'm in this area and want a coffee or snack, the Camera Museum is my first choice. It's got a good atmosphere, enhanced by the titular theme, it's eminently affordable and serves scrumptiously tasty food, Moreover, and quite arguably best of all, it also encompasses a delightful Museum to cameras downstairs. Also, there's the in-house camera repair service, if that's what you need. On my previous visit I shared a salmon panini (photographed) and both I and my wife thoroughly enjoyed this lunch.
S. C.
Quirky, interesting and homely cafe. Lovely, very welcome, cup of tea and Fruity Flapjack cookie after visit to British Museum round the corner.
P. G.
Absolutely love this place. A hidden gem amongst the streets of London, and a real must visit for any photography enthusiast. Whilst the museum is free to visit, you should also take time to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee, or a bite to eat. Plenty of nostalgic things to see, read and learn. And a wide range of perfect novelty gifts for birthday and Christmas presents. 5-STARS!
J. K.
Really cool and unique coffee shop and canera museum all in one! Everyone is really nice and I was even able to find a strap for my camera here. If you go down and visit the little museum, you can pick up a voucher for a discount back up at the coffee shop.
G. P.
Interesting venue, to see all the cameras you've had over the years can get them repaired also. The food isn't bad either, would recommend a visit.
A. C.
i’m so happy with the super prompt and no BS repair service!! had my light seals replaced for a 1/3 of the price most places were going to charge me. didn’t have the chance to try the cafe and museum but i will definitely be visiting again to wander around. such a cozy place, it doesn’t feel like it’s in the very center of london (but it is!!) i’ll be recommending the camera museum to all my friends :) thank you!
S. Y.
I love this place. No visit to the British Museum is complete without a visit to this wonderfuly quaint place.
It is like stepping back in time. Tea and snacks are reasonably priced for the area. Chilled music. Very relaxing to be in.
The owner is welcoming and friendly.
I had a pot of Jasmine Tea for £2.90.
J. S.
100% satisfied with the repair work, and grateful for the positive, friendly and professional service of this place.
I had my Hasselblad 500C film backs repaired to an excellent standard within one hours’ work. I would highly recommend this place for repairs.
With the books, museum and coffee as well, I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here.
The shop owner is a genuinely good man. You can tell he loves his work and values his customers; puts his best foot forward and has the skill to make it happen.

This place is such a gem, the owners are so kind! I'm traveling and came in with a broken film camera, they managed to fix it for me which I was not expecting! Still I had no room for it in my bags so I decided to donate it to their collection, they were very grateful and gave me a free juice :)

Coolest coffee shop I've been to in London, and I have lived and worked here all my life!

I really love this place. Shame that they closing earlier ie 6pm.

Nice and cosy little place. Shame that it goes unnoticed. A very fine collection of cameras of the recent past (admittedly, not from very long ago). But a great job considering the collection was assembled singlehandedly by the owner and manager of the place.
Food is nice too. A good place to visit after a day at the British museum.
K. K.
It is a great place to stop, have a cuppa or toast, cake or salad. The owner is a very nice man and attends customers needs. It is cosy place, so you can enjoy rest after visit in British Museum or to have a chat with friends.
S.
Friendly salesman, offering products and also to enter the museum.
It was downstairs, costed £1 and was quite adventurous.
Enjoyed it well. Oh, they have coffee and pastries. Take a seat outside and create some impressions, others will admire.
T. D.
Such friendly staff. Took my Hasselblad 500cm in to be fixed and very impressed with the service and expertise. They provided a six month guarantee too which is really appreciated. The place to go!
D. E.
Went in today because I was given an old camera and had some questions about it. The gentleman at the counter was so patient and helpful! I cannot recommend this place enough! He explained me everything about how to load the film, what each part of the camera means, what to do/not to do.
Will definitely come back whenever I need any gear etc
T. P.
I love this place. A camera shop with a soul! It's run by people who love cameras and photography and aren't simply in it for the cash - this is made even more apparent by the recent setting up of the Camera Museum - huge labour of love that has turned out brilliantly. The people who work here are very knowledgeable, generous with their time and really friendly. The prices are fair and I'd say it's the best place in the UK for getting old Hasselblad gear.
J. H.
My favourite coffee shop in central London. Lovely coffee, friendly and welcoming staff. Great music and boots. Lovely and cosy and a free museum with many interesting cameras. A great and unique atmosphere and is surely one of the hidden gems of
London.
L. F.
Amazing shop!
My camera had a issue and took it to a shop in Soho that recommended to change a couple of pieces with a total of 500 pounds repair. Which is really expensive for what I thought should be a simple fix.
I took it next to Camera Museum who came up with another solution who cost me a forth of the previous shop.
It seems like they are passionate photographers too and they got a nice chill area where you can order tea, coffee and sweets.
Highly recommended.
Thanks again!
D. G.
A quiet gem of a cafe in the heart of London. The museum evokes nostalgia for anyone who has used a film camera, and has a multitude of museum pieces packed into a small space. The food and drink is also excellent. Well worth a visit.
M. L.
I really admire there coffee so much! Love the place too. My friends and colleagues treat me here last day. They served amazing coffee, freshly squeezed juice and delightfulfood that fit to our budget. So happy :)
J. B.
We spent some time here as a base for a half day photography cause. Lovely little venue. Huge variety of food for somewhere so small. Freshly squeezed orange juice was a nice surprise. It's Costa/Starbucks prices, but I wouldn't expect anything else considering its location. Small display of cameras is quite enlightening to people who will have grown up using phones for cameras. They had a box of phone chargers for you go ise as well as numerous photography books and national geographic magazines to read. Souvenirs looked to be reasonablly prices (mug was a fiver).
H. M.
A quirky cafe with affordable prices near to The British Museum. I had an amazing Iced Coffee with Ice Cream inside. I would recommend if you like sitting among old vintage cameras that you should come and have coffee and a cake. They also sell noodles and you will like them.
P. N. N.
Small precise camera history. It's a nostalgic and bit quirky museum with great coffee served by nicest staff
Do DONATE tho Cuz I cannot wait for new screening room!
C. C.
If you are into old school photography at all this is fantastic place to hang out at.
There are classic camera's all around, and so are the classic camera lovers. Great conversations, nice refreshments, great place to meet fellow passionates.
A. B.
Place is not very big and it's really cosy. I like going there with friends for cup of coffee. I like the rich flavour. Their sandwiches are pretty nice as well. Maybe staff needs to be more friendly but beside this I can only recommend it!
A. B.
Camera Cafe is one of the most cosy, warm and relaxing coffee shops in the area. The patron's choice of music and attention to detail is second to none. It is a great place to meetup with your friends to have a chat, have a drink from a wide range of tea, coffee or freshly made fruit juices. If you are hungry the food will not disappoint you either, generous portions makes a welcome change from the minimalist servings that seems to be trend these days. Being a customer of the cafe for over 10 years, I cannot recommend the place strongly enough. It is also a great place to meet photographers, poets, philosophers as well as creatives from all walks of life. Hey, I like the place so much, I even took my grandmother there and no to say, she loved it!
ps: I would give you 5 stars Adrian but 3 is the max allowed ;-) and an what an excellent way to spend the Diamond Jubilee.
C. W.
This is my Batcave, my hiding place and my second home.
Since photography is my passion and has a big importance in my life, this cafe makes me feel home, like I belong here.
Camera Cafe at Museum Street started in late 1999 as a coffee shop. It actually is the first camera shop with a cafe and an exhibition gallery in the world.
It is a three-floor building and the cafe is on the first one.
The first thing you'll notice when coming in, is the collection of camera equipment. Photographer geeks will love it here.
They have a lovely exhibition of quality Hasselblad cameras, lenses and accessories. You can sell yours here or take them in part exchange against equipment. Also, they offer an in-house repair service for film cameras and lenses. Pricing is reasonable and sometimes it's for free).
I could get into more details, but I'll try to curb my enthusiasm.
About the cafe:
I've always craved a cafe with such a comfortable atmosphere. I literally feel like I'm home, especially when I come alone and do my own things.
There is plenty of seating space, including the outside area, downstairs and the reception upstairs. They do have the cosiest sofas on the second floor.
The decor is so my type -- fancy, but still somehow casual and relaxing.
I think the lighting and low music generate the ideal ambience for a quiet date.
They offer the usual drinks you'll find in a cafe. People enjoy the coffee and hipster kids are obsessed over the honey latte. I honestly think the apple and mint fresh juice is the best. They offer sandwiches that are quite good as well.
What you'll find upstairs:
On the second floor, there is an exhibition gallery space. It is available for hiring no matter if you're an amateur or a professional photographer.
Paintings, ceramics and other types of art are also welcome. This one of the reasons I love this place -- I admire businesses that encourage people to get creative and share their artworks.
Oh, I missed mentioning they have free Wi-fi fast enough to even watch movies online. You couldn't ask for more.
L. M.
This was a great place to study because they had Wi-Fi, and a savoury coffee. If I ever visit London again, I will assure that this is the first placethat I want to visit. This place has a great atmosphere and is a perfect place to study or just to hang out you is your friends and colleagues. They served amazing coffee, freshly squeezed juice and delightfulfood that fit to your budget. Relaxed atmosphere with great music plus small tables and dim light will make it relativelycalm. The music was cool, there are sparkling lights on the ceiling, and the staff just comes around to clear the tables and to straighten up.
N. L.
So great we came back years later
J. M.
I needed a place to look through some work one afternoon in a relaxed environment; this place was perfect. The honey latte was lovely, and I was able to charge my laptop. I've been looking for a place like this for some time. Now I have finally found this place, I don't need to look anywhere else.
c. c.
Came here for some simple food after a walk in the British museum. Very friend staff and nice atmosphere. The food was delicious and homey. Very nice place
E. A.
Great cafe. The atmosphere here is amazing, very warm and cosy, the perfect place for relaxation. I usually visit it with my friend and we end up spending the whole afternoon there. Only downside is that the staff can be a bit rude and impatient sometimes.
E.
Great place, lots of soul. And cameras! The owner is super helpful and outstrips his nearby camera shop competition on price point and customer service! There's something here for camera newbies as well as the aficionado. Will return!
E. M.
A lovely little place to visit. Friendly staff, great venue. Camera museum is a great piece of history, lots to see and review. A must see for photographers and historians a like.
P. “. T.
If you're a photographer, you'll love this place! If you're not a photographer, you'll love this place! It's a crown jewel of London. Must visit! The staff is very nice and helpful.
C. O.
Great collection of cameras.
Also lovely friendly staff :)
10/10 would camera again
V. P.
I really love this place. Shame that they closing earlier ie 6pm.
Adrian is the best!
A. S.
Popped in to Camera Cafe to make use of their computers but it's actually much more charming than your typical internet cafe. Go past the photography buffs swooning over glass cabinets of SLR cameras to get to the coffee shop. They have a couple of laptops (50p for half an hour) and a printer that you're welcome to use without having to buy coffee first. Although the character of this dinky shop (and generous portions of chinese food) makes it the sort of place that you'd want to stay in for longer. Keep it on your radar for the next time you're in need of coffee and wifi.
M.
They know their stuff and are friendly to suggest alternative equipment too. A great atmosphere, clientele are friendly and talkative so you'll get a great conversation over a decent coffee. Recommended
I. W.
Started from 1888 where the camera was just a box. Fee entry is only 1£. Foods and drinks in a cosy place that you shouldn't miss!
D. S.
What a wonderful little independent cafe please pop in i guarantee you will not be disappointed and as a bonus there is even a free museum on photography.
Ps ask for a Chi latte is not on the menu but it owner makes a wicked one if you asked nicely
L. W.
The ice honey latte is amazing, the staff are friendly and helpful, the place is quirky and never too busy and it's a good spot for people watching outside. My new favourite cafe.
O. V.
THE BEST place to buy Hasselblad products. If you are considering going somewhere else, don't!
The staff is as great as the quality of the gear in store.
