Reviews of Handel & Hendrix in London

What a fantastic experience! It's a wonderful step back in time to see the flats that Handle and Hendrix's lived in. The team have done a wonderful job or restoring it and the accuracy of Hendrix's bedroom is superb. They are closing in September to refurbish further and not reopening until 2023 so go before they close if you can! It's definitely worth the £10 entry fee. The staff are wonderful, friendly and very knowledgeable too.

Whether you are a musical aficionado or a relative novice, you will be sure to learn something new at the Handel & Hendrix. All of the friendly staff are well informed, engaging, and you cannot help but fall in love with the enthusiasm they have for their subject.
M. S.
Totally recommend it! The volunteers were great adding context, stories and details to the exhibits.

By coincidence, Handel lived in a house in London that 200 years later was next door to where Jimi Hendrix lived. The two houses are now a single museum of two distinct parts both of which are very interesting. There is a lot of memorabilia from both eras but I did particularly like the Jimi Hendrix bedroom. It is also quite feasible someone could visit this place who actually went there in the 1960s.
D. J.
Excellent visit today. The volunteers are so knowledgeable and interesting to talk to.
M. M.
An interesting idea to bring into one museum the two homes of such very different musicians separated by two hundred years. It was nice to sit in an listen to a live rehearsal performance of classic pieces in Handels music room, performed with Harpsichord and Violin. Handels lived here from 1723 (aged 38) till his death in 1759.
The Hendrix part of the museum has some good memorabilia, one of his guitars and jackets, and plenty of information on his brief life including his music collection and some of his music which you can listen to on headphones. However, Hendrix only lived here very briefly, so the flat itself is not so significant as Handel's House in that respect.
C. R.
Super period house where both Jimi Hendrix and G. F. Handel both lived (on different floors at different times) with lots of memorabilia occupying their respective areas. Handel's is sparsely decorated with period furniture and paintings with historical information and Hendrix' areas contain information about his life, record collection, guitars, furnishings and videos of the events that happened in his flat and his life at that time. His bedroom is completely refitted with the exact decor as shown in the many photographs that exists. Some of the materials were painstakingly crafted by volunteers to be exact copies and it's a lovely experience to see it. The docent in that room is extremely knowledgeable and friendly and we chatted for quite a long time about our own experiences.

Just cannot bring myself to recommending the museum. The Händel- part of the house is rather uninspired. Really old- school exhibition. The Hendrix--part has hardly any authentic exhibits and the highlight is a lookalike bedroom. It is not worth the money. Sorry.
P. A.
As a big Hendrix fan this is something I've wanted to visit ever since the house was opened as a museum. Staff very friendly. the house itself is very well staged. very happy that I went
S. G.
Very interesting place. Volunteers in each room were knowledgeable with good stories and background history. We were lucky enough to have a staff member give us a quick recital on one of the harpsichords as well showing us how they worked internally. I understand they're closing in a few weeks for a re-vamp, it'll be even better after this !
A. M.
Handel and Hendrix. Who would have thought they were connected. Not this fellow :) Loved the Hendrix parts of this house. The bedroom recreation teleports you to another time. Great Hendrix choices being played throughout.
N. M. M.
Wonderful little tour and fantastic walk on nostalgia lane... if you are a Hendrix lover this surely will make your day.
h.
The place offers an insight into the private spaces and lifestyle of the composer Handel and the guitarist Hendrix. Not much to see in terms of instruments. I'd only recommend the place to those who are big fans or particularly interested about the life of the two musicians.
P. H.
Not a huge amount to see, but the recreated bedroom and various displays do an excellent job of recreating Jimi's London lifestyle.
G. C.
2 legend mucisians' houses sit one next to the other. Handel & Hendrix Museum pays tribute to Jimmy Hendrix & baroque composer George Frideric Handel. 2 squeezy houses used to be the London home of these 2 musicians lived in completely different times. The excibitions are quite small and you just need about an hour to go through everything, but if you are fan on any of these two great musicians, then give it a go.
K. H. L.
A very nice place to learn about one of the best composers off all the times. Handel. You can also try out outfits and this makes it a fun experience.
T. H.
Interesting little museum featuring two famounse musecians of totally different genre who coincidenally lived in a neighbouring flat near Bond Street.
I'll recommend it wholeheartedly, but it will be closed for nearly two years for a major refurbishment from mid-September.
J. M.
Really fun and unique museum. Definitely go here if you are a history buff or music lover
A. A.
Cool museum. Great history of both Handel and Hendrix. Such an interesting juxtaposition and testament to the many layers of London. Guides stationed o. Each floor any very knowledgeable about both artists. Recommend!!
G. K.
A happy and moving experience for Hendrix fans. What an honour to step into the bedroom where Jimi did a lot of his songwriting. Marvellous.
J. F.
Lots of information on Hendrix and the Handel rooms are amazing. When i visited someone was playing harpsichord so a extra star for that.
m. o.
There are people in every room to walk you through the lives of two incredible musicians. Not a big museum, but if you're a fan of either Hendel or Hendrix, it's worth putting aside an hour or two to go visit.
J. K.
Interesting place to visit if you are a fan of Hendrix. You can touch and feel the history of a musician around you
E.
It needs a little more to make it feel special. Besides being the former homes of fantastic musicians, the experience can feel boring even to someone interested in either musician. 2 stories are dedicated to Handel, the very top is where Hendrix' appartment was and is now his portion of the museum.
The part that makes up for it is the friendly staff. We went on a Tuesday and met the Instrument tuner who was happy to share great info on parts we would never have heard otherwise. Also, the gift shop worker and front receptionist were very friendly. I would give it 3 stars, but the staff deserve an extra one.
M. C.
This museum is situated in the house where Handel and Jimi Hendrix both lived at one point in their lives. It covers three floors, the first two are giving over to Handel the third to Hendrix. I was more on interested in the Hendrix part, but it was worth looking at the Handel rooms as well.
L. V.
They dont have that many original things from Hendrix, its mostly replicas, but its worth going for any real Hendrix fan
F.
If you want to delve deeper into some history of music, you MUST visit the Händel & Hendrix. As a fan of both of these gentlemen, There couldn’t be a better place to learn about them. They both lived, worked, spent precious hours of their life dedicated to honing their craft! Today they have music to bring their homes back to life. Very cosy feeling throughout the whole Händel & Hendrix experience, it’s as if ( not trying to be creepy) they’re alive , and you’ve come to visit them. I absolutely Love this place!!!
Thank you for existing for us to visit today, such a beautiful historical sight!
C. A.
A great visit. Really friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers. A small museum with two very different themes due to the folk who lived here. Well worth a visit.
M. J.
Very nice house. Little house but the guides give a lot of very intereating information!
V. V.
Absolutely! Loved it, a must visit if interested in different genre of music, history and life of music legends!
F.
As a Jimi Hendrix fan, this museum was beyond amazing! The employees were so helpful, kind, and informative. It such a beautiful museum with an awesome gift shop. This was by far my favorite museum I visited during my trip in London! Thank you for the remarkable experience!
B. C.
A great place to learn about the life story of the two most influential musicians in history. The entire tour takes about 2 hours to walk through all the floors but you can spend a whole day there listening to music from both Handel and Hendrix. Take the time to read through each panel and understand the cultural changes during each period where the each musician lived, it'll give you a much better appreciation of the music that these two people created during their time.
S. P.
Excellent museum in a town house in Mayfair. I went because of my admiration of Hendrix, but enjoyed the Handel side too.
Mainly self-guided but with knowledgeable staff in several rooms to answer questions and add depth of insight.
In historical terms ... two immigrants to England lived in this property, 200-odd years apart. Both were immensely talented musicians and were welcomed to our country, found it to their liking, and came to regard it as their home. Quite enchanting and thought-provoking
f. r.
it was a great little museum. i really enjoyed how they were able to talk about both of these famous people, Handel & Hendrix. i mostly wanted to visit because i am a fan of Jimi but was pleased to learn a bit about the other guy. they do have some special events which i would suggest looking up in their website before
K. G.
A curious and pleasant surprise.
The museum does little to compare and contrast the two musicians... it's not very necessary.
The amusing juxtaposition does the work itself.
Hendrix's record collection is an inspired element.
S. S.
Good, now soon to be even better after renovations. Essential viewing for fans of either musician.
J. B.
Great juxtoposition between Handel and Hendrix who happened to live in houses next door but separated by 230 years.
M. B.
Absolutely fascinating, especially given that the two musicians are so far apart in time and style. Friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. There was someone playing an harpsichord on the morning that we visited. Very good value for money. Definitely worth a visit.
C. C.
For years this beautiful little museum was only 50% complete in the eyes of Hendrix fans like myself, as the flat that he previously occupied was used for the museum's offices, and only occasional tours and exhibitions were held. No longer. Following a generous Lottery grant and extensive building works, my most recent visit reassured me that Hendrix now has his very own section of the museum with a full-time exhibition, which includes memorabilia and a complete recreation of his bedroom (with brilliant attention to detail) - for fans of Hendrix (and indeed Handel), this unusual museum should be top of your to-do list in London!
V. B.
Really interesting place to visit. A hidden gem in Mayfair. Home to two musicians, a couple of hundred years apart. Giving fascinating insights into their lives at 25 Brook Street. The house has a lovely welcoming feel to it away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
A. C.
Very nice museum. Take advantage of the audio guide and take headphones with you. It was nice to hear about the rooms and read about the paintings on my phone.
T. S.
We visited primarily for Handel's house. The house itself is quite atmospheric and there was a violinist playing in the Composition Room throughout the duration of our visit. One might expect more items on display which are original, or at least owned by Handel. It's probably worth a visit if you are new to Handel, but perhaps worth waiting for some more Handel specific items to be on display if you have some knowledge of the composer.
M. P.
beautiful house with brilliant preserved artifacts and knowledgeable tour guides
K. H.
Intersting was to spend a hour in London.
P. R.
Step back to 1966 and see how modesty a true rock star lived. This is a wonderful time capsule in every detail, did you know that Jimi bought his furnishings from the local John Lewis store, and would discuss rugs and materials with the staff. A must see for anyone who is a fan of Jimi.
C. W.
An interesting juxtaposition of a classical with a 'pop' musician. Both houses provide worthwhile opportunities to become better acquainted with these two men and the background to their lives and music. There are informational texts provided for both; furnished rooms and musical instruments plus portraits, photographs and examples of their music and songs. There is a lift provided to all floors. Vehicle parking would have to be on the street it seems, whereas there is nearby public transport.
S. B.
Must see museum for any Rock & Roll / Classical music fans! Recently had a large refurbishment and due to the fact they are a client I got to see the before and after - amazing transformation with Hendrix getting centre stage.
B. T.
A very professional and well put together little exhibition hidden down a little back street. I probably don’t know enough about either artist to appreciate it properly, but the people working there were as friendly as they were knowledgeable when sharing information about the former inhabitants.
m. c.
An interesting place which shows how Handel and Hendrix lived in this building
P.
Didn't know much about Handel before visiting but was interesting to learn whilst there, Hendrix part of the building was amazing. Fully recommend waiting for the free tour
R. L.
Interesting bit of history. A quick museum to tour
J. H.
If you’re sick and tired of elbowing past the throngs of uninspired tourists pretending to enjoy themselves at the British Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, Tate Modern and the like, then Handel and Hendrix may be your cup of tea 🇬🇧
This museum is small, located in two unremarkable 4-story row-houses that are next to each other on Brook St., a pleasant byway forgotten amid the hedonistic hubbub of the nearby Regent Street.
In one house lived the 18th century German composer George Handel. In the other, Jimi Hendrix, the 1960s rock legend who lived here at the height of his success. The museum consciously limits its scope to each musician’s time in London, with interesting insights on their habits, social circles, accomplishments, and other fun tidbits. Hendrix’s bedroom has been beautifully restored to its former glory, while Handel’s austere lodgings and creaky floorboards feel in line with the bleak reality of 18th century existence. While I appreciate brevity in museums, I do also feel that guests would benefit from (a) more on London life in the 18th century and 1960s, and (b) more information about Handels and Hendrix prior to their moving to London.
I also experienced, and am still somewhat bemused by, a certain curatorial incongruence in what essentially amounts to a museum about two men who had nothing in coming, apart from their being musicians who happened to live on the same London street at different times. This coincidence is admittedly startling, and one need not overexert herself to imagine the earnest non-profit folks who resolved to commemorate this historical happenstance with something permanent. The catch-22, however, is an incoherence about the whole enterprise, which is readily admitted by the museum employees who acknowledge the “weirdness” of the whole endeavor.
My pedantic critiques notwithstanding, I’d say that Handel & Hendrix is worth the ten quid. Go enjoy your hourlong stay!
A. W.
You already know that this is a museum, but did you know that it also hosts events?
Tip: Check out the "What's On" section of the website for unique events related to both periods of music. This evening's concert was a duet - harpsichord (Handel) and electric guitar (Jimi Hendrix). What an interesting combination it was! So fitting in this venue, and what a deal for £10!
J. E.
just off new Bond St pay tribute to two great musicians. Handel and Hendix. Fans of classical music if lucky can listen to live performance while Jimmy's devotees may just feel the vibes of his pad which he shared with other band mates from the 20th century
A. D.
Two giant musicians, separated by 300 years, "sharing" same small space. Have to see and touch. Great staff, plenty of stories to hear from them. Ticket = 10 quids
M. L.
What a stunning place. I had a most memorable evening there. If I could award more than 5 stars I would. A unique hidden gem 💎 in London.
Do not leave London without visiting this place. The same applies if, like me, you are a Londoner!
j. c.
Excellent, with fantastic hosts who gave historical context to the exhibits. As a Hendrix fan it was superb and also quite humbling to be in the very room that Handel's 'Messiah' was composed!
T. Z.
Fascinating museum; not huge, but with interestingly diverse contents.
We went because it was a National Trust partner and had no particular expectations, and came out with an improved knowledge of Georg Friedrich Händel, Susannah Maria Cibber / Arne - and Jimi Hendrix!
A pleasant way to spend an hour, and children will no doubt enjoy admiring themselves in the dressing up room mirror (the only room in the house where photos are allowed).
B. F. K.
Had a great time particularly enjoyed the Hendrix part. Would be cool if the whole flat was recreated with the kitchen and bathroom but was still a great time.
L. C.
Hugely emotional experience to stand in Handel's music room hearing music performed that may well have been first heard in that very room, played by the composer himself, and to sit where the first audience would have sat, listening to the great opera stars of the day rehearsing with Handel directing them.
R. J.
Lovely place to visit. One of the hidden gems of London. The staff are always so helpful and knowledgeable too.
G. P.
Half of the house is the place where Jimmy Hendrix lived during the European Tours. The secondo Half is Handel's place. A mixture of old England and the Flower Power times! Very interesting!
E. H.
Well worth a visit. However this is also the home of Handel so its a shared space, and the people running are the Handle charity that have gine out of thiervway to include jimi Hendricks exhibition space as well not the other way round. Having said that the bedroom and some of the memorabilia it so so worth a look. Great value ticket and a definate must see for fans
D. M.
Jimi's bedroom has been lovingly recreated to look like it did when he lived there. The rest of the flat tells you about him and his rise to fame and there is a shop selling a good selection of Jimi memoribilia.
F. '. A.
Anyone who appreciates the music of Handel and/or Hendrix should visit I think. Last time I came, someone was playing Handel's Chaconne on the harpsichord and the place just came alive. Shame they didn't let me play Purple Haze after though.
D. K.
No complaints. Should be a well established attraction in this area. Really well set up with tons to see in a small venue.
Also worthwhile to check out Breadcrumbs while you’re there.
T. S.
Awesome place to experience a part of their lives and the staff is well informed
J. P.
Went as an Hendrix fan, wasn't disappointed. His room and record collection is fantastic, so are the stories written in the walls, but something was lacking...
d. j.
big fans of hendrix, this is a very touchy place for me.. all the statf are nice and great, the store also have a good collection that I never seen before in any store selling hendrix things.. about handel, well i apologize, knew only little about you 🤣🤣🤣
D. G.
Lovely museum. I went for Handel and enjoyed the Jimi Hendrix side who lived next door. Wish there was a bit more Handel information.
N. M.
Nice staff, but very small exhibition
E. E.
Small but very well maintained museum on two musicians at the complete opposite spectrum of music.
c. f.
Small, intimate museum devoted to Handel and Hendrix.
K. F.
Great place to visit for classic and rock lovers. And yes, Jimi Hendrix place is open to public now. Staffs are helpful and informative.
w.
Enjoyed visiting these two homes. It would have been even better if some of Handel's music had been playing during the visit.
J. F.
Wheelchair accessible. Yes! Told them they should promote this on their website and Wikipedia page. More people will then get to see this small but very interesting museum.
C. E.
A quirky combination of two very different musicians. Compact, not overwhelming. Homely in both cases. You can do both in half a day
C. H.
Very inspiring visit! The guides were very well informed and very friendly. Would recommend to any music and/or history lover. Well priced at £10 admission 🤘
M. R.
Hugely enjoyable to have link between German master and American pop icon, with great bonus of live performance on certain days. Well worth a visit
D. O.
Memorable museum and masterpiece gallery ,potraying classical and pop era and relic icons

H. G.
It's a quaint interesting place where a legend lived once. You should certainly visit if you are a Hendrix fan.
M. B.
Amazing museum! A fab afternoon out and so informative. Definitely favourite bit was jimmys bedroom!
H. M.
Fasinating place. The guide(elderly lady) with her love of the building, history and music brought the experience to life. It was.difficult to find though
F. S.
Very nice
E. E.
Great fun. Interesting and not expensive (10 quid). Staff is well-informed.
Definitely worth visiting.
N. K.
I think it needs more work. The back room where there used to be a sofa should be put back to 60s style with a sofa and a vintage hifi.
D. P.
The Handel part whilst interesting was a little dull. The Hendrix part had more character.
H. B.
Excellent museum, really liked the juxtaposition of the Handel House and the Hendrix story
J. R.
A must see for any Hendrix fan. A bit steep at £10 but very worth the money
A. R.
If you love these musician you can see also their human side. Small but interesting
A. A. J.
A friendly, interesting experience....however i suspect that those who are a stickler for details maybe a little disappointed....the attempt to recreate the furnishings are a little mediorcre.....however it is still worth a visit.
S. V.
Excellent museum for the history of both musicians. Showing both of their living & bedrooms.
A. W.
Great dress up room with period costume to try on. Staff very variable in knowledge... from almost clueless to incredibly knowledgeable and fascinating.
L. J.
Outstanding early-evening concert of Handel and Rameau, played on an excellent harpsichord.
L. T.
Just like entering a photo but in 3D!
If you are obsessed by Jimi like me, then this is the place to be!
M. K.
Right in the centre of London between Mayfair and Soho, definitely worth a visit and it won't take you hours - but £10 is a bit hefty for what it is...
M. T.
Great place to visit, definitely would go back. Very informed staff and very welcoming, keep up the good work.
F. C.
It was great to be there and see the place where most rock masterpiece were designed
H. T.

(Translated) They show the period in which Jimi Hendrix lived in London (approximately 1 year), reconstruction of his room, discography listened to by Hendrix, guitars, photos. About Handel, they also reconstructed his room very well. There are some photos, sheet music and pianos. I highly recommend this museum.

(Translated) Modern and ancient at the same time, I recommend starting the visit from the third floor where you will find Hendrix's London apartment. On the second and first floor instead you can immerse yourself in the private and public rooms of the great Handel. House where the famous oratory with the famous Hallelujah was written, among other things. Halleluja that Hendrix listened to vinyl upstairs almost 300 years later. :-)

(Translated) Sometimes, the story causes encounters for the least unexpected. Thus, this neighborhood, two centuries away, one of the giants of baroque music and the most awesome pop guitarist of the 60s. A unique museum makes them live together. It allows you to visit Handel's home, including his office where he wrote some masterpieces including the huge oratorio The Messiah. You can discover the composer in his daily life and his little secrets. The neighboring apartment Hendrix also allows to offer some unusual elements of the guitarist. We discover his disco with music of his illustrious neighbor in the middle of records by Bob Dylan or Pierre Henry. The course allows to apprehend the desire of experience and musical adventure of the famous musician.

(Translated) A must for fans .......
I've read all of Jimi Hendrix's albums and his biography. And for me it was a must visit. According to the biography, there were no discrepancies between the museum, which shows its lifestyle, and the book. I was fascinated and will visit 25 Brook Street again on my next trip to London.
Entry for Handel & Hendrix, i.e. both artist apartments 10 pounds / visitor.
During the visit, I didn't deal with Georg Friedrich Handel as intensively as I did with Hendrix, but his rooms were also very detailed and there was enough to read about the German composer.
Back to Hendrix! His apartment is on the 3rd floor and before you get to the bedroom (visitor highlight), the visitor has enough material to work up. For example, Jimi's personal history and career. A copy of his "Olympic White Fender Statocaster" can be found, as well as a collection of his record collections. You can also listen to different Jimi songs again via headphones.
The bedroom has been reconstructed, but in my opinion the whole thing was implemented 100% with the pictures in the apartment. With the help of a brochure, the visitor can also learn some history about the utensils in his apartment.
It is allowed to film and take photos in the entire house, but without a flash.
In the souvenir shop there are again various merchandising products from Handel & Hendrix.
A must for fans. It is certainly also interesting for the normal. Price performance fits in any case. Hence 5x⭐
P. S.: No audio guide.

Daher 5x⭐
P. S. : Keine Audioguideführung.

(Translated) It's funny to know that Handel and Jimi Hendrix shared the same house! Well, not at the same time ... I who cried the day of Hendrix's death, it's something to find in his (relatively small) turne. And down a floor and face Handel's harpsichord, this is called a culture shock. Very nice, small concert of a flute duet / harpsichord. The tour is included in the London Pass, so if you're looking for something different ... for the nostalgic 60's, Carnaby Street is just around the corner.

(Translated) I do not know that Jimi Hendrix chooses a flat where Georg Friedrich Handel used to live ... Jimi thought it was a good place to write music, that's how it was ...
There is much left in the original and there is plenty of information.
