A nice well put together museum. Definitely recommend for adults to visit. My children (7 & 8) enjoyed about 30 minutes then they were ready to leave.
D. T.
You need to pay only for adults but not for the children. My son is 14 and i didnt need to pay for him. The museums small. Doesnt intrest the kids. You need to leave the big bags at the front desk, It makes the walk easier around the place.
M. O.
Incredible memorabilia a fascinating place to visit
R. W.
Was closed when I came to visit, but the guards church was open and that's full of decaying flags as is the tradition of doing this in church buildings
D. O.
A lovely museum to spend a couple of hours in, telling the history of the guards and a wonderful collection of artefacts
J. A.
A fun little museum filled with great artifacts and history. Not entirely noticeable from the street this museum isn't regularly crowded and allows patrons to move at their own pace throughout the exhibits. The staff and friendly and can answer any questions you may have regarding the subject matter. Be aware there is a small fee die upon entry but with so much to offer, it is a fair price.
k. K.
Was interesting but not friendly welcome and asked questions but shop more informative and helpful.
a.
paid entry, about 6 quids !, I visited that museum last summer, I really appreciated the place, lot of things to see and things to learn about the guars history, not many peoples inside, quite place, but the most cool things are the shop museum and reception desk, the guys are just fantastic, they give you lot of advices and explanations, enjoyed it. I love military history

When visitors come to London one of the major attractions they like to experience is, The Changing of The Guard, at Buckingham Palace. The Guards look splendid in their traditional red tunics, and their famous black busbies, and black trousers, with their very shiny boots, as they march down The Mall.
Well there is one place where you can find out about the history of The Guards, and that is The Guards Museum, in Birdcage Walk, only five minutes away from Buckingham Palace.
The museum has on display the uniforms that the Guards wore through the ages, plus medals, which were won in the many campaigns that the Guards fought in, campaign flags, weapons etc, beautifully presented.
There is also the Guards shop that sells model toy soldiers and military equipment from well known events in military history, it has some wonderful displays.
If you do decide to make a visit, allow at least half a day to see the exhibits, there is a lot to see !!
There is no photography allowed in the museum, so I am unable to show pictures of the exhibits in the museum.
L. K.
Great experience containing detailed information on the Guards' units, history, and explanations. Staff were friendly and played the welcome video as soon as I started. Could have benefited from a warning that they do not allow photography, rather than being told after. Cost for an adult is 6£ (3£ for students) - worth it given the amount of unfunded work out into it.

An exhibition for specialists. Designed and maintained with love. At the beginning there is an introductory film about the different uniforms. The exhibition sheds light on the history of the British military from the Middle Ages to the present day. The staff is very informative. In the museum there is absolute ban on photography. Outside, you can put on an original woolen hat and take pictures. There is also a nice shop in frond of. To the keeper: Greetings from austria, it was really nice, also for my son.

Took ma great grandchildren and ma pal.
Twas a grand day,it was a day tae remember, along with the Guard Change brought back memories of the late 60s

When Guards changing , they walked out from here . A bit less busy here and you still get to see a bit of it without the over crowded.

Fascinating history clearly explained if you take your time. The display chronology was a little confusing even for someone with a fair grounding in the period's history. Pity that photography is not permitted, and that there are no restrooms. Has the potential to be more welcoming and hands on e.g. Lancashire Infantry Museum in Preston.

I have to say it: what a fantastic place. 😀 The history of the whole of the Household Division is astounding. A noble and harsh history replete with victories and heroism; with loss and recovery. This awesome story is nicely demonstrated in this small museum. 😀
N. H.
This chapel is open to the public. It is inside the fence in the barracks area of this large military compound across from St James's Park, but the gates are open during the day and I would urge you to look in. The chapel is decorated with the colours (flags) from the guards regiments in years gone by, and this creates a special atmosphere.
Every last Tuesday of the month (except August) at 1pm there is usually a free concert by the professional musicians from the bands of the guards regiments. This is really unique and if you are in the area, please go and enjoy an hour of great music in a special place.
S. K.
If your visiting Buckingham Palace, and have an interest in military history, this is definitely worth a stop, especially for free with the London Card, or even for the £8 admission costs for adult non-ex-servicemen. If you have ever wanted to know the history of the Coldstream, Welsh, Irish, or Scotsguards this is the perfect place to do so. You'll find the history of the Royal Guards, from the 1700s to the modern period, including artifacts ranging from the Duke of Wellington, Waterloo, the American Revolution, to Afganistan. Note that this museum is not part of the Imperial War Museum and related collections (unlike the HMS Belfast), and relies on people visitng for contributions.
C. C.
The is one of the best military museum which I have been to. The museum is full of nice figures and uniforms. The souvenir shop is also awesome. Fans of military must visit this!!!!!!!!!
N. R.
Is worth asking the staff to give you some info/a tour... There is so much history here some of it can be easily overlooked. Great place for fans of the military and particularly those who are interested in fluffy hats and shiny shoes
E. M.
Very friendly gentlemen working at the museum who are passionate about the subject. The museum is very well done despite it being small. Very interesting and worth a visit.
K. F.
Beautiful and lively very engaging staff a little hidden gem that shouldn’t be missed - while family loved it- great place to get good quality Guardsmen uniform item for those formal events! pins, ties, cuff links...

I imagine many tourists stumble across the Guards Museum when they visit Buckingham Palace (it's pretty much next door) but most Londoners, who rarely pass that way (it's not on a bus route or anything), are probably unaware of its existence, which is a shame. It is quite small and it doesn't exactly stand out because it's underground, leaving only the signage and a vintage armoured scout car to draw attention to it.
But, if you are interested in history & militaria, it is definitely worth a visit.
The museum holds historic artefacts relating to the five regiments of Foot Guards (Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards) and their campaigns. The majority of the collection comprises the uniforms (ceremonial and battlefield), trophies and weapons of the guards dating back to their creation in the 17th century.
The highlight for me was the lock and bits of wood & chain blasted from the gate at the fortified farmhouse of Hougoumont right at the heart of the Battle of Waterloo, which was held, just, by the Coldstream Guards.
D. S.
Really interesting. A must for those who like military history. The Guards Toy Soldier Centre / Gift Shop next door is also worth a visit.
A. R.

(Translated) Cool for those who like the history of the royal guard. Old uniforms and a little knowledge are in the museum. It costs € 8 per person. It has a small tank on the outside and you have to be careful not to miss the entrance because it is quite small. It's worth it if you're passing through. It has a beautiful church in front.

(Translated) From 10:15 am go to the barracks next to the museum. In the yard, the soldiers prepare for the "Changing of the Guards". Pay attention to the day of the week. You have a great view of the preparation of the ceremony. Then you can listen to the military band, as it is recorded. With us with the theme music of Indiana Jones and the march from Star Wars. Great. You save yourself from having to queue with thousands of others at Buckingham Palace.

(Translated) It was the first time I had close contact with my favorite baby soldier. Very happy. The exhibition hall here is not big, and you will be able to finish shopping soon. It is recommended to pay with LondonPass as a cost-effective, unless you love guards very much. There is another gift shop next to the pavilion, which is not too big. It mainly displays small items. For those who like guards, there are also exquisite little guards selling realistic versions. The cute little guards are also good.
