Reviews of The Household Cavalry Museum
C. L.
This historic building was built in the mid-18th century and is located between Whitehall and Horse Guards parade. It's main purpose was to be a barracks and stable for the Queens Household Cavalry (those are the colourful guards on horseback and marching when changing the guards. This is a must see photo opportunity for tourists
m. g.
This is as iconic as you get. Like the old red telephone box, Tower Bridge, the old red Route Master Bus and the Household Cavalry Guards they are all apart of London.
Great place to visit and a great spectacle to watch, especially when there is a parade on.
The pomp and ceremony for the Queen and country is amazing and these guys always do us proud like they've done for hundreds of years now.
I've had nothing but respect for these guys for as long as I can remember 👍
G. M.
We found this place without wanting to, I'm not sorry at all.Lovely place, gorgeous horses, very interesting attraction.

Timing is key if you want to experience the whole thing. There is a changing of the horse guard in the morning and you need to get that time right, if you want to get the full experience seeing the riders and horses "do their thing". The exhibit of the museum is really well done and thorough but the horse guard changing is really unique to watch (if you haven't seen it before).
The rest of the exhibit is well done, to showcase the history, purpose and entire background of the group. Keep in mind the deeply entrenches history of horses and English royalty--especially Queen Elizabeth II.
J. H.
God Bless our brave lads. So smart. So disciplined. Envy of the world.

Must see if you are a horse person or interested in cavalry. Lots of information on Waterloo and nice exhibits that help to personify the action. They have a glass wall that allows you to view into a working stable and a fun dress up area where you can try on the various uniforms to get a feel of for the weight of them. It is very well done and a good place to watch the changing of the Horse Guard and still have time to go down and see the last half of the changing of the guard at Buckingham palace. You can get very close to the action at the Household Cavalry and get a good spot without having to wait in the sun for an hour. Watch it for 5 or 10 min the walk down the Mall to Constitution Hill by the Canada Gate and see a great view of the end of the Buckingham Palace Change. This is especially good if you have little kids or just don’t want to stand in the sun in a crowd.
C. M.
It's tiny, but there's a few cool things to see
A. C.
We stumbled on this by accident. Trying to get down to see the changing of the guards, we found the changing of the Horse guards. There was a pretty medium size crowd, it was very easy to get a good spot to view. The horses were beautiful and the whole thing is quite amazing to watch. After we saw this we were still able to get down and catch the Guards marching. Never knew this was there, but I think, its a must. Very cool touch of history.
Y. M.
Great museum, well worth a visit. If you have children that like to dress up there are uniforms you can put on and adults, for a photo.
You can also see the horses in their stables behind the glass.
V.
We never consider this place a something nice to do, however we have such a pleasant surprise when we got there and had the chance to see their inspection protocol.
It is just amazing to experience all this royal protocols in the different locations in f the royalty, and this one was quite a good experience.
The place from the front door looks small but when you enter to the household you just get amazed.
M. M.
This is a fairly small museum but worth visiting to learn about the history of the Household Cavalry dating back over 350 years. There are displays of the uniforms and equipment and an area (popular with kids) where you can try on some of the uniforms and breast plate armour.
The Household Cavalry performers alot of ceremonial duties protecting Royalty, but interesting to learn about the much broader role played by the Cavalry in keeping the peace in earlier times, and their role in modern era an operations in different theatres of war.
Z. P.
On the day of visit lady working at desk was snappy with all customers . Most of which related to going to the wrong side of the checkout when paying for items, just petty stuff that someone visiting may do due to the layout of the place.
P. c. p.
Great monuments to look at its very wonderful and fantastic for you to be satisfied with your life and your life is good
J. C.
Very interesting, it's only small but has multimedia tutorial headsets with very interesting facts, stories and history from real ex servicemen. The staff were very friendly and allowed us go out to watch the changing of the guards and return back to the museum.
M. A.
A very nice place to visit and learn about the history of the guards and see them caring for the horses through a glass display. You can try out the different costumes too.
M. B.
Good place to visit. When in London, England. Along the way from Number 10 (England P.M house). You get to see lots of horses and there changing the guards during the day. Worth seeing if you passing.
Y.
You should visit the museum and watch the changing of the horse guards ceremony here- all in one go. Its a treat to visit and watch. Museum is pricey though - be warned. 12 pounds entry back in 2018
A. P.
Fantastic food, value for money, friendly staff, great service, made you feel like your their only customer. Spacious, clean and would definitely visit again.
D. A. M.
Found this place by walking from Buckingham Palace to The London Eye. Was nice to see how disciplined the horses are. Was an interesting entertainment. Kids surely like it.
C. C.
Great experience, make sure to pick up the audio guides and it really helps understand and follow the history of the British cavalry.
J. x.
12 noon arrived to see the Cavalry changing guards
Great spectacle
D. S.
Wonderful traditions by dedicated services.
Total respect for all these services
S. P.
It was snowing and it was cold but this was nice to see. Warning: stand outside of the circle. It was entertaining to see a lady stand in the middle and be shouted at.
E. F.
Lovely little Museum, full of history. Kids loved being able to watch the horses in the stables and get to dress up! Staff were very helpful and kind, will definitely visit again. 😁
C. M.
Very charming, quaint museum, especially love the viewing window where you can see the real horses and soldiers at work and the uniforms and helmets that you can try on. So fun for kids and also quite fun for adults!
M. i.
Better if you're with kids. They can see the horses up close. Dirt grounds so make sure you have something handy to cover their faces when the wind acts up.
L. M.
I can't resist standing and watching the horses whenever I go past. They are gorgeous. The museum is very interesting and tells the story of the regiments historic campaigns through audio visual presentations and artefacts. There are uniforms for children and adults to try on and photograph themselves in. Then there is the changing of the guard at about 11:00 and the retiring of the mounted guard at 4:00. If you get a chance there are concerts in the parade ground every now and again. There's nothing like our UK military bands and they always have at least one from a visiting country in the big concerts.
d. f.
Only had time for a brief visit but a lovely historic place.
R. H.
Stunning horses. Loved the royalty behind this
E. G.
Always great to visit this area. It is a spot for tourist to enjoy photos with the horses and sometimes with the guards. You will feel safe with the number of security around.
S. K.
Brilliant experience.. Her Majesty's Horses are one of the best I've ever seen..
J. H.
I love horses so it was fun for me. Very well done seeing formation of the cavalry! Takes so much composure to stay relaxed on that horse for hours. I would recommend seeing the parade.
J. F.
Historical, majestic and pretty cool place to get a photo next to the guard and there horse, carefully though the horse does like to nibble on the people who get close.
k. n.
We chance upon this gem of a little known place 🤗🤗🤗while walking down from trafalgar square to westminster. As its namesake, i think its where the queen keeps her horses 😁 there is a museum as well as a well stocked shop which has interesting items. Would love to spend more time there to visit the museum but the day is running short. If you are a calvary buff, should make a point to come here. 😁
B. C.
Quieter guard change than Buckingham palace but more fun with the Horses. Top tip watch from junction of The Mall and Horse Guard Parade to see the arrival of new guard then follow to parade ground for change. Remember the whole thing takes half hour.
E. A.
Everyone should see these amazing beautiful horses and the household Cavalry. So dignified with patience and calm amongst the droves of tourists and noise.
Loved it very much.
R. K.
Quite small inside, but really interesting museum and worth the entrance fee. Headphones with information about the exhibits is provided with the entrance fee.
K. A.
We just walked by the museum because we didn't have much time. But here are some pictures from the outside! It was amusing to watch. This seemed to be a real hotspot for tourists!
M. B.
Nice building. Beautiful horses. Kids loved it.
D. O.
Nephew and I really enjoyed coming to the cavalry museum good display of uniforms and memorabilia
P. A.
Interesting to read the history of this place. Not very big so fors not take long to go around
M. M.
Always lives up to expectations! Would love to have time to do the behind the scenes tour.
I. M.
The museum introduces the history of Household Cavalry and how they train horses. The gift shop is lovely too.
B. U.
We were just passing through to get to the Churchill War room and we happened upon the guards riding the horses. There were a couple of them just standing there facing the road (Whitehall) under their stations. There were actually quite a few people there taking pictures. We took a few pics before heading through the building to the parade.
R.
Good to see and take a photo with the guard and the real horse 😄
J. S.
We we're lucky to see the changing of guards. A must see also when you visit the UK.
R. S.
Cool to take a look if your (like me) just a tourist walking around. Not necessarily a place you would make an effort to go.
a.
British Class, also there are some picture's from RAF 100th Celebration in 2018.
M. F.
We only saw the beautiful horses and one was misbehaving. We walked through the lovely plaza.
Y. A.
Changing of the Guards was absolutely brilliant and it was also lovely to see a lot of people showing interest.
J. O.
Wonderful. Great view of the real stables. We all enjoyed dressing up!
K. H.
A great place to watch one of London's iconic traditions- free of charge! The change of guards has a long story in British History and it is worth reading about. Be there early to secure a good spot as the activity gathers a big crowd, especially on Fridays. Watch the guards handover to one another at the big arena then quickly move to the front of the building and secure a spot around the corners to see the newly apointed guards take position in their spots (few tourists know of this! most stay at the arena). Leave the arena to accompany the old guards back to Buckingham Palace. If you're lucky and your timing is right, you might be able to watch another ceremony on the way! Just make sure to leave before the guards on horses do as the police will stop you if you try to chase them. Walk along the sides of the park and enjoy the parade!
I. P. -. V. I.
One of the best experience in London
M. S.
Haven't been in yet but the Guardsmen & Horses are Impressive. I will definitely visit.
Y. O.
Very nice horses and guard men.
L. K.
Great museum in Horseguards parade full of history, worth the visit
P. J.
Ceremony itself is excellent, just a shame some members of the public who go to watch it like to use it as an excuse to take intrusive selfies
E. S.
Compact and bijoux - a first rate museum with lots of history and activities to get involved in.
S. W.
Wonderful museum with very knowledgeable staff. Seeing the changing of the guard was a big bonus.
ר. ל.
Nice expirience. Come half hour before the ceremony
A. H.
Very pleasant watching the changing of the Horseguards
T. J.
My daughter's and I just happened to be at the right place at the right time. Such history.
E. S.
On the right time it should be great the museum is £8 for adult
N.
Nice little Museum about the History of the Horse Guards
A. B.
Nice to watch. Very short but nice tradition.
P.
It was great to experience the change of guards 💂🐴 it's a typical touristy thing to cross off the list 😏
J. S.
Historical place undergoing some renovations. We were lucky enough to see the change of the horse guard's.
s. s.
Very good worth a visit. Beautiful horses out on guard at the front.
c. g.
Great to see the changing of the horse guards
M. B.
Got to see their guard changing ceremony at the end of the day, was a nice little surprise while we were exploring the city.
n. b.
Amazing to see the changing of the horses, awesome soldiers and incredible horses.
C. L.
Fascinating. I found it extremely informative, organized, and affordable. In contrast to the guards museum at Wellington barracks, this museum was way more enjoyable, approachable and understandable for the layman tourist. The free(!!!!) audio guide they offer is insightful and interesting. Best 9£ spent!!
L. S.
Horses and Guard"s were great unfortunately I didn't have enough time to go around the museum
C. G.
Very interesting museum, tucked away in the right of the main quadrangle. It takes roughly 1 hour to see via audio guide. Adults and children can dress up in Horse Guard customary. In addition you get to see the horses, their saddles, bridles, guard uniforms, boots, medals and rappings and hear their stories through the ages. Nice if it can be coupled with the Royal Mews (closed Sundays)
D. W.
Again the best of being in the capital.
British pride at its greatest
J. M.
Horse guards building without horse guards...

I love London... Kensington High, Cophorn Tara, National History Museum, H. Park, etc.... I miss London... The bars, Covent garden.... Ouff..
R. B.
Beautiful building, great history
W.
Not sure _ was it an exchange of the duties of life guard. But was royal to watch it at 4 pm.
E. M.
Great little museum with lots of history and information about the cavalry traditions and military history. You also get a view of the stables and the riders preparing them. It is small but very fun and worth it!
t. g.
Excellent museum very informative
J. O.
Very interesting. Did the whole audio tour which gives you lots of information. You can see directly into the stables where they prepare for guard duty. Makes me very proud of our traditions and heritage and even more proud of our armed forces. Excellent.
A. G.
Lots of places to get a good view.
A. D.
A very good insight into the Horse Guard regiments. A niche military thing. If you want a more general intro to military life try the National At Museum or Imperial War Museum. Otherwise, it was a fascinating museum that hit all the highlights of the regiments in question.
G. H.
Great place to visit before changing of the guards. Gives a good history of the household cavalry, with good displays and information, theres old uniforms to try on and you can view the horses in the stables being prepared for duty. Well worth a visit and prices are good too.
P. J.
Not so busy as chancing the guards at Buckingham palace
T. P.
Good museum. The headset commentary is included in the price and very informative. Worth a visit.
B. H.
Great for horse lovers - the history of the Irish Drafthorses bred for wartime is expansive. Also seeing a few of the behemoth horses was thrilling. Some of the guards are very knowledgeable about them as well, if you can get one to entertain a couple of quick questions.
D. C.
Very small museum set in the old stable
B. V. D. L.
Changing of the watch is a must see. Very cool!
W.
A great place to spend about 30-40 minutes seeing history about the Queen's guards. Friendly staff assisted us on arrival. Learnt about the guards and saw a lot of history pieces of armour and weaponry.
Great place to kill some time. Changining of the guard is also out the front of this museum so can use some time here before it starts.
N. C.
The museum is rather small but contains a lot of interesting items and stories. Good for kids since it's not overwhelmingly long to tour it, plus they have cavalry uniforms that kids can dress in for pictures etc.
S. W.
A well presented history of The Household Cavalry. The self tour is informative with out getting carried away with too much detail. It is also possible to observe the working stable as part of the tour. As an HM Forces Veteran entry was free but would have paid as this is museum well worth the cost of a ticket.
P. W.
Only a small museum but interesting displays. You get an electronic guide that tells you about the exhibits - I'd recommend using this as its very interesting but does repeat a lot of what is on the display cards. Took about 75 mins in all. Try and time to coincide with the cavalry getting ready to ride to Buckingham palace (was at 11.30 the day we were there - not sure if it's the same every day). Very reasonable entry cost.
J. B.
Very cool place. A must see if you are close to the area
E. A.
We got to take pictures with the horse and rider and watch the change of guards outside. It's always a pleasure to see a bit of British uniqueness/identity in action. We didn't go in, so can't say much about the value of going in.
C. A.
A small but fascinating museum, which explains the history of the Household Cavalry very well. One of the best features is being able watch the men and horses prepare for duty from behind a glass screen. The audio guide isn’t really necessary as the labelling in the museum explains everything very well, but it is interesting to hear anecdotes about service life.
H. H.
Great little museum right on horse guards parade. Not to expensive with a wonderful insight into the history of the guards. Some great exhibits inside and some great info/stories associated. Kids (mine)didn't really enjoy it but when you come out of the door your in the best position to watch changing of the guard.
C. B.
Love hours so a must see on my walk back from work
T. N. P. C. S.
Great day of Remembrance. Well done to everyone
S. B.
Fantastic experience, highly recommend the visit
m. y.
Well worth a watch
P. M.
I highly recommend all tourist to visit the Household Cavalry Museum.
j. b.
A military ‘ceremony’ where mounted guards of determined mien and resplendent in shiny uniforms strut their stuff astride groomed horses at close quarters from spectators on a parade ground.
Bona fide tourist attraction drawing an appreciative crowd and well worth the free admission.
Arrive early to ensure good view.
M. Y.
Small museum, but a good size for the kids (we took about 30 mins to go round all 3 rooms). Entry a bit pricey for the size of the museum but I think you can get it included in lots of group tickets.
S. L.
We loved this! The people at the welcome desk/souvenir shop are wonderful and very helpful about other things to enjoy in London. We enjoyed the museum completely, very good interesting information. We learned so much! Definitely reccomend this museum!
A. V.
Excellent, with staff who really love the place and are knowledgeable about the history and circumstances of the regiments. A little largely undiscovered gem open late into the afternoon in Central London. Children will love the chance to dress up in genuine military uniforms! A good shop too.
P. B.
All quite fascinating, and you can even look into the actual “working” part of the stables. There are audio visuals of interviews with the Troopers, and I learned just how much extra work these soldiers have to cope with every day to meet the Regiment’s standards. An eye-opener
Situated at Horse Guards, Whitehall between Trafalgar Square and Westminster Abbey the Museum lies at the heart of historic London in magnificent mid 18th century vaulted stables. Dazzling displays of uniforms, weaponry and other prized exhibits present a celebration and history of the British Army's senior regiments the Life Guards and the Blues and Royals, who uniquely form Her Majesty The Queen's mounted bodyguard. Open daily from 10am.
A.
Very nice place to stop and have a look at the Horse Guards. You will see it if you walk along this street.
S. D.
This was a surprising find, because you can actually see some of the horses and watch as their keepers feed and water them. Also you can try on the uniforms. Excellent audio guide. Highly recommended
D. B.
Little place but packed with information. Lovely staff too. Very interactive.
M. R.
Great to see horses and guards close up but not a lot happened for the amount of time we stood waiting. Museum was really interesting but a lot of money for the amount you actually saw.
S. M.
My children really enjoyed the dressing up and the visual splendour of the uniforms. It was good to get a peek at the horses in the adjacent stables but even better if there could be CCTV so we could more clearly.
Also would be great if there was more space to cover the everyday soldiering as well as the ceremonial which is covered very well.
All in all it was a well organised and cared for museum which entertained my children for 90 mins and i enjoyed learning about the Regimental histories.
E. F.
Well a visit don't just walk past.
So much information, history and personal story's to learn about.
Also you can see the grooming of the horses if your lucky.
C. S.
Small but interesting. Nice audio guide and ability to see the change of guards from the stable perspective. Plan half an hour around 4pm. 3:45->4.15.. great with kids as there are costume
J.
Wonderful museum. A well kept regimental history. It you arrive before the horse parade occurring daily at 1100hr you can see the mounted troop preparing thought a window to the stables from the museum.
A. B.
We went here just because we had the pass. But I was surprised how neat it was. My favorite part was seeing inside the working stables. Great little museum. Short tour.
D. S.
Definitely worth seeing if you're close
S. K.
The courtyard itself is well worth a look in (since it's free), even if you're not a tourist. The horses and guardsmen are all really friendly. If you encounter a member of the Household Cavalry while they're not on official duty (such as if you're lucky to be there on a social/promotional event), then they are all really splendid, genuine, heartwarming, and friendly people. This is the unit that form the guards in front of Buckingham Palace, so the people that do this job are happy to talk about how it works, what they do, etc etc. There is a museum on site giving the history of the unit in general as well as outlining it's modern day duties. Well worth a visit.
J. S.
Viewing window onto working stables.
Dressing up area so you can experience how heavy the uniforms actually are.
Three rooms of Museum displaying the history of the Cavalry and the breeding of it's horses. Including the battle of Waterloo. Great for anyone interested in the military and horses. Has a gift shop.
The parade ground has a mahoosive Turkish cannon on the edge built in 1524 by Murad son of Abdullah a chief gunner and taken to Egypt by the British Army in 1801. But it is usually overlooked due to the parades taking place. Beyond the parade ground is St James's Park.
In close proximity to St James's Park, Whitehall, Cenotaph, Churchill War Rooms, Institute of Contemporary Arts, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, St Martin's in the Field, The National Gallery, The National Portrait Gallery, Leicester Square, Victoria, Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, Parliament Square.
Nearest station St James's Park.
H. F.
Loved it, saw the change of guards. Done a workshop that showcased the change of uniforms and why it happened. Definitely great to bring your children to experience and great for tourists
D. H.
A friend visiting from Germany wanted to visit here, though not my particular interest I did enjoy this small exhibition of the history and everyday lives of the regiments making up the Household Cavalry. Enough to be interesting, small enough to avoid boredom.
M. L.
Excellent museum particularly if you have a specific attachment to the HC. In my case, my maternal grandfather served in the Royal Horse Guards, thus well worth the visit. (Records of former serving personnel now stored at National Archives, Kew)
L. B.
Had a brilliant time at the museum ,the lady ( didn't get her name) helped my granddaughters dress up talked them through each piece of clothing encouraged the 8 year old to follow her dream of being in the horse guards we spent over half an hour with her can't recommend this place enough
V. U.
They have a glass wall that allows you to view into a working stable and a fun dress up area where you can try on the various uniforms to get a feel of for the weight of them.
P. G.
Go if you can find a discount. The National Rail Days Out Guide (a must have by the way) had this museum in it so for about £3 each we got to learn about the history of the Life Guard and Blues and Royals regiments that are tasked with protecting the Queen (amongst other things). There were interesting insights into the ceremonial duties of today and how they relate to the military duties of the past and an opportunity to have a peek at the horses stationed next to the museum. If you want, you can try on various helmets and bits of uniform although most look like they've seen better days. Make sure to come outside for 11am to see the changing of the guard (10am Sundays).
M. N. P.
Well worth a visit when in London if never been before we went for 11pm and 4.30 inspection was special to us because my friends son in law is corporal and was leading his men so got to see him doing his stuff....
S. B.
A must see experience
s. i. r.
Stunning place with lots of history behind.
Y. K.
Small museum with rich experience. There are outfits that you can put on to take pictures. Audio tour is included in the entrance fee.
G. R.
Very informative tour. Enjoy the museum.

On in the world
No one looks like this
Wonderful place
C. W.
We visited with our granddaughter last week
The staff in the museum were very friendly and helpful
The police quard were happy to answer questions
But the guards and horses were amazing and it was lovely for all the children to be able to see them so close up
The police guard were lovely with the crowds telling them all about what they do too
Well worth the vidit
C. A.
Fascinating. Loved the chance to dress up, see into the stables and listen to fascinating commentaries and first-hand accounts. The interactive quizzes were fun too. Recommend!
P. U.
Great place for kids as well as adults
Uniforms there to try on
R. Z.
Horse Guards is a historic building in the City of Westminster, London, between Whitehall and Horse Guards Parade. It was built in the mid-18th century, replacing an earlier building, as a barracks and stables for the Household Cavalry, later becoming an important military headquarters. Horse Guards functions as a gatehouse giving access between Whitehall and St James's Park via gates on the ground floor. It originally formed the entrance to the Palace of Whitehall and later St James's Palace; for that reason it is still ceremonially defended by the Queen's Life Guard. Although still in military use, part of the building houses the Household Cavalry Museum which is open to the public.

Nice place
A. B. B. S. P.
Inspection at 4pm sharp
R. M.
Arrive on the hour and enjoy a ritual that has not changed in centuries. Smart soldiers, beautiful horses. Extremely touristy, brilliant.
S. E.
Lovely experience if you are luckly to see the changing of the guards
L. P.
This covers the ceremonial side of the regiments, namely the mounted side based at knightsbridge it does have some mention of the armoured regiment at Windsor. Still worth a look to see behind the scenes what goes on to mount the guard at Horseguards. Then you can walk round the corner and actually see the mounted guard.
R. C.
Amazing work goes into guarding the queen. Don't treat them as a tourist attraction. They're doing a job for our country. Treat them with respect.
L.
Nice looking
K. H.
Great for staring at very still men holding guns and/ or swords
M. B.
I loved the museum. Being a horse lover - this is an easy review. The info regarding how the horses are selected for the horse guards and trained- interested me. I loved putting on the uniforms and making precious forever photo memories - feeling like a proper cavalry soldier! The museum not only covers the facinat history of the cavalry - but also present day participation in war. After changing of the horse guards - you can observe the soldiers working with the "off-duty" horses through a window to the stables! How cool is that?! I spent hours there - loving everything about the place.
k. h.
Try on ceremonial uniform or watch the soldiers carry out stable duties. Displays from king Charles up to present day, well worth a visit watch the guard mount or watch the 4 O-clock inspection
C. G.
Even experiencing a very short time just to see the Guard
Change horses spoke to the police officers.
What a great JOB they are all doing.
WELL DONE
t. w.
Amazing to see change of guard just make sure you are not in the way of the guard's they won't stop!
T. G.
into the household into the stables and watch the horses come in and the guards dismount if you're visiting with kids or you just feel like playing dress-up there's also a section inside the museum or you can try on different uniforms
B. j.
I am not normally a fan of museums but this one was particularly interesting. Really nice gift shop with lots of merchandise and lots to look around at!
p. m.
Nice place but not much to see
t.
A nice place to walk around and view the classic traditions which take place during the area, nice place to see classic traditions of many years and a view into the museum, which is very interesting.
C. S.
Great fun to see the household guard up close. Horses only bite unruly tourists ;)
L. Y.
Great experience, each time you go something new is learnt. Spoke to a really friendly Police Officer, who was guarding!
K. “. M.
Missed the parade, should have been there before 11am. This is an amazing place with a nice museum on the west side of the building. This place is steeped in history and sets at the north east end of St. James park. I recomend a visit to this place and get a picture with a Horse Guard out front and a picture with a Royal Guards on the grounds then stroll through St.James Park.

Worth a walk-through, especially accompanied by a short history lesson. Changing of the guard is neat. Close to other cool stuff.

The museum is rather small but contains a lot of interesting items and stories. Good for kids since it's not overwhelmingly long to tour it, plus they have cavalry uniforms that kids can dress in for pictures etc.

Great place to visit. Friendly staff with lots of knowledge of the history of the household cavalry.
C. G.
Very crowdy, lots of tourists waiting to get a picture with the beautiful horse, funny attraction if you pass nearby.

A good way to see how the Household Cavalry really serves the country. Much more than just the ceremonial queen's escort during the State Opening of Parliament.

Horse Guards is a historic building in the City of Westminster, London, between Whitehall and Horse Guards Parade. It was built in the mid-18th century, replacing an earlier building, as a barracks and stables for the Household Cavalry, later becoming an important military headquarters.

Beautiful place and interesting uniforms on the guards. Though we were very confused when we got here by accident. We got in from the back as out GPS told us we could go thought. Came out on the other side with guards everywhere, military people and armed police. We thought at first we were intruding but found other turists around afterwards. They could have a sign on the other side as well so we knew what an interesting place we got ourselves into.
E. E.
Tipical British spectacle changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. It was a great experience.

First time seen guard's change over their duties. Very well organised and impressive
G. X.
Highly recommend this experience for families. I took my three year old and we were in the front row, nearly able to touch the horses (except for the guards, of course). We stayed for about 45 minutes, watching the guards and then the horses parade out of the shelter and then the actual changing of the horse guards. Following the ceremony, we went across the street to St. James Park where we had lunch in the park which we purchased from the cafe. An absolutely lovely morning.
I. M.
I hope that horses did not suffer from the hot weather

Horse Guards is a historic building that was built between 1750 and 1759. At the entrance, we can see mounted troopers of the Household Cavalry and the Household Cavalry Museum is located in the Horse Guards; moreover, every morning the ceremony of Changing of the Guard takes place at Horse Guards Parade.

Horse Guards is a historic building in the City of Westminster, London, between Whitehall and Horse Guards Parade. It was built in the mid-18th century, replacing an earlier building, as a barracks and stables for the Household Cavalry, later becoming an important military headquarters. Horse Guards originally formed the entrance to the Palace of Whitehall and later St James's Palace; for that reason it is still ceremonially defended by the Queen's Life Guard. Although still in military use, part of the building houses the Household Cavalry Museum which is open to the public.
