Reviews of The Wallace Collection

The collection is absolutely stunning pieces of art work. It has to be the best exhibition I have been to so far.🖼 It is literally in the heart of London and the admission is completely free of charge. There is a cafe inside too which serves great food and service.☕️There is also afternoon tea served here. We ended up spending 2-3 hours there. It’s a hidden gem worthy of being explored. 💎I would also recommend it if you want some cool aesthetic photos.

This is a great little exhibit in the heart of London. It’s free and you just walk in, no ticket required at all. We went in quite late so I’d say feel free to enter anytime before 5pm. We spent about an hour in here but I would say 2-3 hours is perfect. The different coloured rooms, the painting, the items were so amazing and pretty. I definitely recommend especially to get some cool photos.
L. K.
Absolutely stunning collection, a must see when in Marylebone but also definitely worth making the trip to come here. It is free admission and feels like entering another world it’s so beautiful; from interiors to the actual art works, an afternoon well spent. It’s also not as big as other ‘major’ museums / galleries like the V&A and Tate so can easily see everything in an hour or so.

An absolute jem. An incredible art and armour collection. It absolutely filled me with happiness. To see works I've know about in books in the flesh to whole new delights was marvelous. Just wish I'd brought my good camera with me. Thank you.
J. J. M.
Went to see Hals exhibition: absolutely stunning pieces of work and the way in which they were presented. Discovered many other artists, whose work I had not been aware of, Steen amongst them. Wallace Collection is truly an oasis of calm in the hustle and bustle of West End. Well worth a visit.

One of the hidden gems of London.
If you love the National Gallery, you'll love the Wallace Collection. Personally, I actually like this more!
It's a few minutes walk from Bonds Street tube station, houses incredible Renaissance paintings, has lots to see over 2 floors and even has an attractive courtyard where you can get a fancy meal. The building itself is a gorgeous gorgeous 18/19t century townhouse having been a home to the highly affluent Sir Richard Wallace. Best of all, it's free.
I highly recommend visiting the Wallace Collection. A must-visit for all cultural peeps.
A.
Stunning museum set in the former Hertford House, just a short walk behind Selfridge’s/Oxford Street. We came to see the Frans Hals art collection, but wandered around the rest of the museum afterwards. Entry to the museum itself is free (certain exhibitions like the Hals one require tickets to be purchased). It’s a great way to spend a couple of hours browsing various art collections and the house itself - which is so stunning and decadent.
There are toilets on site and a coffee shop/eating place. Very well organised and I’d definitely recommend visiting if you’re a Londoner or in the area.

What I really love is seeing beautiful paintings as they should be, playing their part in beautiful rooms, so much to see in each room. All sorts of wonderful artefacts. Loved the Laughing Cavalier exhibition, surprisingly fresh and fun, though in a rather dark exhibition space. The cafe is a gorgeous covered outdoor space. Busy. Very good shop, if a bit pricey, lovely gifts though.
V. C.
Great place to see a large collection of art ranging from paintings to porcelain and fine furniture, it is a vast collection but the space is small enough to see most of it in one visit so it's more manageable. It is also not as busy as the national gallery for example so you can actually spend more time in peace and quiet to just appreciate the art. The cafe is also very nice and serves good food.
J.
Incredible collections! It is my most favorite private museum in London!!! ❤ Lovely cherubs paintings & sculptures everywhere... I love all the little boxes at the "Boudoir Cabinet" too~

Whenever I'm due to meet somebody in London and they ask where to meet, I always say the Wallace Collection. It combines the joy of visiting a stately home with a world class gallery, plus an extensive selection of weapons and armour downstairs. 🤩
Easily in my top 3 of London galleries, together with the National Gallery and the Tate Britain. Like those two venerable institutions, the Wallace Collection is totally free. 🥰
T. W.
A real gem. We happened to be in the area and found this place tucked away off the beaten track. We were absolutely blown away with the quality and volume of exhibits.
S. P.
Wonderful collection of art and historical pieces of warfare and furniture. Must visit and it's free to visit. No prebooking required and no crowds at all!
R. C.
The Wallace collection is simply breathtaking. It is full of the highest quality historic objects from kitchenware, religious artifacts, paintings, weapons and armours. You can spend half a day here getting lost in luxuries of the past.
I think this collection is a small tilt of the cap demonstrating how humans improve manufacturing capabilities and develop crafts to unbelievably complexities over time.
Well worth a visit and a donation at the end! Fabulous.

I would highly recommend that you visit this place if you haven't already. The armour and weapon collections they have on show are absolutely incredible. I can't wait to visit again in the future.
C. A.
Nice gallery located close to Bond Street station. A good collection on show, quite a few rooms closed at the moment. The best thing about this place is the staff, all genuinely passionate about the works and very informative. Personally, not my type of art but a nice place nonetheless.
L. T.
Nice and quiet cafe in the middle of a museum. Very bright with natural lighting, glass ceilings. The croissant was a bit soft and chewy, the cinnamon bun was pretty nice. It’s a good place for a quiet escape from busy London.
B. T.
It is a great collection. Do not forget to check "Laughing Cavalier" painting which is one of the most brilliant of all Baroque portraits". I am surprised that it is in London as I would expect to see it in the Netherlands.
The café in the museum was looking cosy but unfortunately, we had no time but it might be good to have an afternoon tea after visiting the museum.
N.
Pretty and large museum, lots to see and it has a cute cafe. I recommended at least 2 hours to fully see everything
d. J.
my favorite museum beautiful ❤️
It feels like visiting someone's home
Most of painting contains the daily lives of novels
J. K.
A wonderful hidden gem, with many historical treasures and paintings as well as having a fantastic restaurant all set in a stunning building in Central London.
M. P.
Went to see the Frans Hals exhibition, which was OK,, not too many paintings on display though, centre piece being the Laughing Cavalier.
The remaining rooms are chock full of paintings, vases, furniture, etc, for too much to take in at any one time.
Some disappointment that part of the armoury was, closed, but probably for the best,, as I can make another visit.
All in all though, excellent.
A. W.
The best non-mainstream gallery in London in my opinion. Star painting is probably "the Laughing Cavalier" but so much more. Five minutes walk from Oxford Street (nearest station is Bond Street) in Manchester Square with a decent cafe in what was the quad in the centre of the house. Allow at least 2 hours to see the main part of the collection, more if you are interested in the furniture, armour and weapons.
All this with free entry!
J. O.
Omg what an amazing place! So much mid 16th century art and armour. Plus a lovely hidden cafe right in the middle of it all.
A. A.
This place is nice! Museum lovers will enjoy. The collection is real good & the maintenance is quite appreciable.
L. P. E.
This is one of the top collections in the whole world. One of the most beautiful places to visit in London. It is so enriching for the view and the soul.
D. Y.
Britain has the best museums and FREE! Worth the suggested donation of £5 to see not one but two Rembrandt pictures and also the famous Laughing Cavalier. What an obscene Collection that just blows you away. Dutch Masters. Sikh treasures too and by Maharaja Ranjit Singh too
J. A.
Took my daughter and we both found it a very interesting and stimulating place to visit. A very impressive collection, not just great works of art, there is a very large collection of armoury. Absolutely worth visiting. Helpful and friendly staff who are happy to answer your questions.

Wonderful collection of classic arts. A must visit if you are visiting London. Some truly amazing artists and their works along with furniture, ceramics, precious pieces, armour and armoury.
C. A.
This is a fabulous collection of paintings, furniture and china, mostly, though not entirely, from the seventeenth and eighteenth century. After a great afternoon admiring the paintings we finished with a cream tea in the restaurant.

Amazing place, cannot believe I've lived in London my whole life and never been here before. Fabulous art and antiques from around 1400 to 1700. Massive place, beautiful building and so much to see, can easily spend several hours. Good variety of historical artefacts and amazingly all free.
B.
The fact that this is free is amazing. Extremely well-kept house and the art was lovely. Staff was knowledgeable too. Just a tip if trying to get in to the free tour, definitely come at least half an hour before as it fills up fast.

I have such a wonderful time there, all the works, paintings and collections were splendid. ✨
I spend around 2 hours and half inside, well it wasn't that big the Gallery itself, but there are so many things to look at. Every pieces of art and collections have been represent in their best way, the description are easily understand. You can also use 'Smartify' application to scan some artwork and read more description, which is so helpful. Works there were separated by era which well describe at the beginning of the room.
Good for inspiration, such a nice place for hanging out with friends and family even tho I went there alone, but I have such a great time.
If you love art, this is the place for you, highly recommend. ❤️

I love visiting this Collection.
I go as often as possible.
Quite a few Rooms are still off limits, because of their size.
But what is available is as usual, wonderful.

Amazing collections, clean n modern facilities. Staffs are friendly. Visited many times

Interesting collection of art, furniture, sculptures, ornaments, clocks and armour and, as it's free, it doesn't matter how long you stay to look at everything. Particularly enjoyed seeing "The Swing" following it's restoration.
J. H.
Beautiful Palace and art collection! If you are a fan of beautiful clocks and furniture as well!
E. M.
Most amazing collection of works of art set in a major London house which was owned by the original collectors
K. W.
Amazing collection in stunningly beautiful interiors. Very helpful staff.
J. R.
This lovely museum/art gallery is packed full of wonderful things spread over two floors (the staircase is wide, spacious and easy to climb). Entrance is free - although there are pay points for donations - clear boxes for cash and touch a pay points if, like me, you only ever have £2-£3 on you these days. It is located parallel to Oxford Street and is a haven of peace and quiet as well as a completely engrossing exhibition of too many things to list.
There is also a lovely looking coffee shop and restaurant. We didn't try this because we had already decided on somewhere else but the menu looked good and moderately priced.
That's the practical stuff. Now for the exhibitions. Everything from armour from many parts of the world and many eras, grand paintings of everything painted by many artists including Van Dyck, Reubens, Landseer and Valaquez and all kinds of artifacts from all areas and all times -statues, miniatures, porcelain, some fascinating clocks and the list goes on. Such a lot to see over two floors. It was all very well displayed and nicely spread out.
You can download a free app as you enter which offers both written and audio guides to the exhibits. You can buy a guide as you enter or you can simply read the information on the wonderful exhibits as you go round. There are plenty of very helpful guides as you walk round who are more than happy to direct you or talk to you about the numerous displays.
What a fabulous place! You will struggle to really do it justice in one day, but entry is free so perhaps look at one floor properly, have lunch and then do the rest.
You may go in thinking it's something to see out of the cold and it's free but I would be very surprised if you come out without making a donation, and without feeling you've spent your time wisely, enjoyably and educationally.
What a beautiful place. Congratulations to everyone involved with the marvellous and understated collection.
J. S.
A fabulous collection of works of art and furniture immaculately presented with free admission and a welcoming coffee shop
A. K.
This is a really beautiful collection and the lighting has been used well to best present the pieces. The accompanying photos are unedited.

Excellent place to visit. I had hours of visit. Full of objects that I would not expect. There are pictures in was, so beautifully worked of figures as Bejamin Franklin. And I set of armour of medieval times. Just wonderful. I must go, with time to spent.
M. S. (.
A wonderfully over the top art experience. These people bought everything that was worth buying. Pictures, sculpture, clocks, armour, medals, coins, furniture... A lot of classic French stuff and if you don't like ormolu, don't bother. Nice cafe too.
P. V. M.
Absolutely amazing. This collection is mind-blowing. Must see.
A. G.
Booked a free ticket for the permanent collection on their website.
I felt safe and confident with the measures they had in place, minimise number of people, one way flow, stickers on the floor to control direction and foot traffic.
The collection itself was beautiful and I loved using the smartify app to get more information about the art and furnishings. Great way to spend 2-3 hours.
A. H.
Amazing hidden gem within London. Gorgeous paintings yes but the armour collection is something else too. This place contains a beautiful bejewelled dagger made for Shah Jahan, at the height of Mughal power. And also an incredible talwar made for Tipu Sultan, the Tiger of Mysore. I didn't know about these before I went but they were such an incredible treat to behold. Any history lover should visit this collection. And oh, the vases here are beautiful enough to have their own wiki pages in some cases. Sharing some photos.
C.
Impressive collection and the house restoration is superbe. Restaurant in the court yard is very pleasant so was the staff. Lunch was just okay but I assume the menu changes .
E. I. K. K.
I loved the Male Portraits exhibition, and the audio guide was a great add-on. And wandering about the permanent exhibits, in those lavish rooms leaves it to the imagination, how was it to live there, magic!
C.
Brilliant place for a visit, the sheer amount of items they have on display is mind blowing. Staff there are very knowledgeable and are happy to assist with any questions you have. It's an absolute must see for anyone visiting London.
M. W.
Intimate yet full of amazing paintings and beautiful setting for the restaurant. Great audio guide for free as well. Worth multiple visits.
C. R.
I have wanted to visit for a while and managed to get there on our short break recently. What a fabulous collection. Loved it all, especially the Dutch masters. Shame some of the rooms were closed off but there was still plenty to see.
We visited the Frans Hal's exhibition which was excellent. I listened to the descriptions of the paintings by the curator and then listened to Grayson Perry's take on them which was interesting and informative.
Very enjoyable couple of hours. Would highly recommend a visit.
A. G.
Wonderful collection of art, sculpture, armour, and so much more in an amazingly central grand old London townhouse. Some of the finest armour on display anywhere as well as the Laughing Cavalier, bit of a family favourite! Some really interesting displays come through here too from time to time - worth checking to see what's coming up.
M. S.
Absolutely love this place, a beautiful collection of paintings and assorted items from all over the world in a very relaxing setting. The Venetian glasses are quite stunning, and the weapons collection can rival that of much larger museums.
Also the bar is nice, quite relaxing and lightly with an excellent selection of teas for a somewhat secluded and less busy experience, given the location in central London.
L. J.
Beautiful scenery with ultra high ceilings, under a glass roof - warm, but as if outside. This is a place I like to take international guests to, when they visit London - the gallery itself is 60-80min. There are two sides to the restaurant (set menu) / cafe (al-la-carte) - ask to see both menus before being seated as the prices are quite different. Would have preferred to be told that when reserving the table.
Not a 5* review, as we were there far too long this time (three hours) for lunch with a 2yrold child, due to staff shortages, mistakes were also made with the order; it would be good if the menus indicated GF or GFO; and I felt the set menu choices were limited - three versus two options would be better.
A.
Hands on Armor exhibition is three small stands with some very interesting pieces of armour you can even try, the three guides were fantastic, as with helping with my questions and really good at explaining.Thank you folks!
A. 0.
Awesome place, this collection is one of the most beautiful so far I've enjoyed everything and spend a lot of time in. I will like too go back any time. What was interesting was the fact that where two men's full of hospitality and kindness who let us to try and where some medieval suit parts like gloves and helmet. it was a great experience you will enjoy it I guarantee 😁
l. g.
So stunning, and many unexpected gems.
Been visiting for 30 years and never bored. Thank you Wallace!
A. Z.
fabulous paintings.
my favourite gallery in london.
G. D.
Beautiful building housing a stunning collection of Art.
B. P.
Only 4 stars as there's refurbishing work currently happening so I didn't get to see the Louis XIV pistols that I wanted to drool over. I will go back after Christmas and imagine that the work will be done and they'll be on show
However, the rest of the collection covering art, sculpture, arms, glass, ceramics, furniture is absolutely stunning.
Worth a visit!
Busier than I thought it would be
S. M.
Amazing collection! And gorgeous scenery! I recommand!
A. G.
Amazing hidden gem in the heart of Marylebone. I've been living in London for few years and came across this place completely by chance.
Free of charge, great collections to see, perfectly preserved.
The cafe is wonderful especially during winter since it feels like being outdoors.
Definitely going back.
M. B.
In my opinion one of the best family collections of art works you will find in London. The museum is a short walk from Bond Street tube. Paintings by Rubens, Canaletto and Rembrandt to name just a few. The famous Laughing Cavalier is on display here. There is a fantastic display of horse and man armour, many rare examples. So many different and varied things to see. In the middle is a cafe and restaurant.
N. B.
I only found out about the Wallace Collection because of the Manolo Blahnik shoe exhibition that they had at the museum! I was blown away by the other artworks in this museum! It is an absolute secret treasure of London and I rate it higher than the V&A Museum and even some of the stuff they have in the British Museum. You have to go see it! Artwork / Paintings / some of the finest French furniture and not forgetting the Armoury!
J. L.
Fantastic collection and building! Free admission! The Bloomberg app provides excellent self guiding info (audio and visual text). Will need to return to focus on specific sections of the collection plus try the cafe.
M. C.
The Place is just wonderful! Full of history... When you are inside you get quickly surrounded by the colours and the amazing collection ... The armatures , the paints and all the objects are top! Will come back
R. R.
Lovely place to visit, lots of history to see
s. b.
Totally amazing amount of beautiful art, chandeliers and interesting items, well worth a visit, more than an afternoon to see it all.
I. L.
History buffs, this is right up your street. Beautiful exhibits. Whether it’s the suits of armour and weaponry or the astounding gilt carvings and fine pottery. The tea room in the courtyard serves a lovely afternoon tea for the full “British” elegant nibbles and tea experience.
R. R.
Absolutely loved the exhibition on Indian art of the East India Company. I've added some pictures to give you a feel of what it was like. If you get a chance then visit. Grab the audio dialogue device as well, it's free with your ticket. You need the background history to understand it.
The house itself is interesting but I'd had enough by then. Check out the shop. And we bought the book. I'll come here again to check out the house.
G. G.
Huge collection of paintings and sculptures, free visit (UK National Museum) and temporary exhibitions too. The building is well preserved in two floors and a patio restaurant in the middle. Very good place to visit.
B. M.
The knights and armour are a great sight to see when you are visiting London! The giftshop looks nice, the items look like they are worth their price!
The Restaurant:
Food: Good! When I went to the restaurant, many things were sold out, which is disappointing, but I found something to eat ( The chocolate Cake, I had no other choice.)
Service: Great! They are very helpful!
Atmosphere: It is under a huge Dome in the middle of the old Mansion
The comfort: Great as well!
The art and sculptures were very interesting! The Restaurant is 5 Stars spot on! Not too crowded either!
Please like this review, it will really help!
This guy Richard Wallace was a huge collector...

Magnificent building housing a fantastic
collection of pictures, weapons, sculptures,
objets d'art, and furniture. A must for all
those that appreciate such fabulous objects.
Friendly staff. Easy access, and it's free.
Donations welcomed..Terrific restaurant
serving delicious food, and speciality tea. All
at very sensible prices. Gift shop. Cloakroom.

Incredible collection of paintings and other pieces of art. We've had the pleasure of attending one of Hillary Williams' tours where we've been introduced to the meaning behind the details in the Dutch paintings, all that with grace and humour. It has been truly delightful!
A. K.
My first return to the a Wallace Collection after too long a long break. Really enjoyed the Frans Hals exhibition which was beautifully presented complete with sound track that was as informative as it was insightful and amusing.
S. A.
We loved this place it’s like a hidden gem! The rooms are really overwhelming with how beautiful they are, there is wall art and beautiful pictures/ decorations. You can go in for free and look around. The workers were also really nice and it wasn’t very packed. Also easily accessible. Definitely would visit it once. There is also some antique jewellery and a room full of swords. Extremely beautiful.
M. R.
The regular collection of works is stunning, during my visit they paired classic paintings with Manolo Blahnik shoes, which was lovely and unexpected. The rococo paintings used as inspiration for a film about Marie Antoinette had the resulting shoes from the film displayed nearby. Along with paintings there is a fantastic armoury with an impressive variety of weapons and suits of armour. There is a restaurant inside the museum. It's easy to spend an hour or two here!
M. S.
Everytime I go I CANNOT believe this place is free. The art is incredible, the variety of objects including weaponry that they have is mind boggling. A must visit.
M. A.
Really nice exhibition in a rare quiet part of Central London. Saw a lot of stuff from all over the world, paintings, writings and weapons. The armory was my favourite part, the armours, guns and swords were a sight to behold. Staff were nice but it did feel like at times that we were being followed around. That is a minor criticism. The restaurant in the central part looked nice, didn't get a chance to enjoy it but would like to one day. For a free exhibition this was impressive.
J. C.
Beautiful museum, definitely worth a look around even if you don't know much about art. The house itself is so decadently decorated it's lovely just to walk around. There's also a lot of historical armour and weapons which are displayed really well.
And it's free!
W. J.
A lovely small Gallery. It's free to visit and i Think you also can go on a free tour around the Gallery. Really recommend it. Beautiful paintings
D. H.
Amazing collection of history beautifully displayed
D. C.
WOW, this museum is compared to the V&A museum very small, BUT this museum is it worth to be visited! The pictures and furniture are very informative and well maintained. All rooms have a history, which is mentioned at each entrance. The museum itself doesnt charge for entering the museum, but it is asked for a donation, which is totally OK and everybody should donate, to save such small indipendent museums.
T. W.
A beautiful house, a terrific collection of furniture, artwork, sculpture and armoury and a rather lovely venue for lunch... the Wallace Collection has free access and you could easily spend a day there if you add lunch into the visit.
A very well curated exhibition currently in the undercroft entitled Richard Wallace - the collector. Some exquisite pieces brilliantly lit in this dark and caverous underground space, there is an absolutely amazing carved boxwood triptych. Well worth taking the time to pop down and explore.
M. H.
Stunning collection of art! Even the design of the building is incredible. All staff were impeccable and so polite. Smooth and easy checking in with booked tickets and felt very safe having a look around. We'll be back!
D. E.
Incredible collection of old masters. Well worth a visit. Free entry. Great courtyard cafe.
K. A. C.
Gorgeous collections, well curated and a nice online guide. Such a variety of items, the arms and armour was incredible as were the paintings by the Dutch masters. Free, which is wonderful. Half of the rooms are currently being refurbushed, looking forward to seeing the rest when they reopen! Beautiful glass roof indoor courtyard cafe, serves cakes and food.
N. C.
i always enjoy visiting, my first time since lockdown and it felt a little too grand. The curators/room guards did not appear to be making an effort to engage only to watch like guards at a vault.
There is no urge to ask questions from people as you do in other like places. A pity as there must be a wealth of information available.
i attended a sword making talk here about ten years ago and it was more engaging as a vistor experience
W. V.
Like most museums in London, this place is free. I hope that never changes. Free museums are the best part of London in my opinion. Museums like this one rely on donations so please donate! My favourite part is the armour collection. Just beautiful and so much detail!
G. C.
The Wallace Collection is one of our favorite galleries.
The last time we were there was for the Frans Hals exhibition. Beautifully curated.Excellent audio.
After the exhibition we treated ourselves to an afternoon tea at their lovely restaurant.
I. M.
The Wallace collection is a real treasure. The house is beautiful, the art is superb: they have a wonderful collection of the Dutch Masters - including some Rembrandts and Frans Hals - this is actually the home of 'the Laughing Cavalier'. There are also many Van Dycks and Sir Thomas Lawrences, and much more.
The furniture and artifacts are beautiful and plenty. And they have a stunning restaurant set in a huge conservatory in the middle of the house.
The entry is free, which is amazing, as most collections such as this usually cost (a lot!) for admission.
E.
One of the best collections in London.
K. A.
Fascinating artefacts here and free to visit. Some incredible intricate sculptures from the 13th, 14th and 15th centuries, you wouldn't believe the detail of some of these from a time where they did not have the tools of today. Fascinating armoury room too. Worth a visit, as is quite unknown and you see some unique items.
C. L.
The Wallace Collection is a gem, not so much for its wonderful and eclectic art, furniture, amour, and ceramic displays (with a strong french influence) but for the ambiance and insights it offers. It is a warm life experience greater than the sum of its parts. There are daily free special and regular tours. It's summed up by one of its famous works, The Laughing Cavalier, all good fun.
N. o.
Really liked this place.Greated at the door by a very formative man. Local to were my partner lives so popped in for a visit. Nice place to visit for Art french Italian. Lots of beautiful china and sculpturers. Worth a visit
D. D.
One of the best museums i have been too. They have an excellent collection of swords and armour. Lots of history. The museum is not big, but definitely worth seeing if you like medieval stuff.
T. E.
Found this treasure by chance - a contributor on Tik Tok posted a video - stunning home, fantastic decor throughout, beautiful dining area, and some amazing artwork, unique armory and much, much more.

Interesting collection, relaxing cafe-though menu limited on the “left” side, spend a little extra for wider menu on full service side...
9/26/21 Update: no need for advance timed tickets, a few galleries closed for renovations but staff and cafe still wonderfully delightful and pleasant way to spend a few hours only a short walk from the craziness of Oxford street. Oh yeah cafe has very limited (but good choices before 11:45)
J. F.
Astonishing collection and superb location. I particularly like the Venetian paintings, including their Canaletto’s. The shop is relatively small but very well stocked.
T. P.
Walk past his building but I didn’t have time to go in maybe next time looks amazing
D. H.
Really wonderful collection of art and furniture pieces and very friendly staff. Nice temperature inside too as some places can feel hot and stuffy. Very much enjoyed seeing all the paintings!
H. “. T.
A sumptuous gallery with classic appeal. A place of richness and opulence. The airy cafe offers an oasis of calm in Central London's Manchester Square to sit and have tea and pastries or a light lunch.
C. S.
Coffee house is a magnificent glass domed edifice. Hardly anyone there which was sad as it used to be bustling. Service good food average
C. P.
This is a lovely museum, with a highly eccentric collection of exhibits. Great Rembrabdts, chocolate box Greuzes, arms. Marie Antoinette's furniture, it's all there. Cafe is very pleasant with good coffee.
K. L. o. S.
One of the best galleries in London. paintings of Rubens, Rembrandt, Hals are there. A mighty collection of armour, guns, and swords as well.
I was really surprised by the Wallace Collection.
You'll dive into the 17-18th century. This gallery has a lot to offer for a free attraction. Just walk slowly thru the halls of this amazing gallery, you wouldn't regret.
S. W.
The Frans Hels exhibition excellent and audio brilliant. Learnt so much. Not crowded and no pressure to move on. A lot available to see in the different rooms. Can make a lot of visits and donation only. Restaurant slow and didn't have many things but didn't tell you up front which is always irritating - although possibly outsourced still reflects on whole organisation and hence only 4 stars.
k. r.
A must place to visit the art is fabulous and you can get so close to paintings by Rembrandt, Landseer, Gainsborough etc, And absolutely beautiful furniture, a real joy for the art lover.
D. T.
A hidden gem in London. I was staying in London for a few days and this showed up on my google maps when walking. I certainly was very impressed with the whole collection and spent a few hours going round. Good little gift shop at the end with fair prices as well. I would definitely recommend visiting if you are in the area.
M. P.
Beautiful house with a good collection of paintings, antique furniture, armoury and very exquisite wall coverings. It is one of the less well known places in London and so it isn't busy which makes it is nice and pleasant to walk round. The free guided tours are done by very knowledgeable guides. At the moment there is a collection of Manolo Blahnik's shoes on display and they are dotted around the gallery. Have fun spotting them! Definitely worth visiting the Wallace Collection.
C. O.
The Wallace collection is a balm for the eyes - One of the top things in London you HAVE to see. Wonderful collection with beautiful artifacts from all over the world. Free tours with the most knowledgeable guide.
M. D.
Bigger than I thought. Very interesting paintings
F. A.
Stunning art collection. Our favorite in London for many years and default "get to" when need to get away from the main streets noise for quite reflection.
It is a great mix of different types of art work, making it much more interesting for a smaller size museum (London proportions).
Last visit (booked) during Covid days was exceptionally quite.
Some parts of the exhibition are closed but still worth visit if you can slot time.
M. M.
A really superb collection of paintings, furniture and porcelain. I would say the paintings are the highlight of this exhibition without detracting anything from the fine furnishing. Don't miss the wonderful collection of Venetian View paintings in the West Gallery by Canaletto and Guardi. A conservation project is currently underway raising funds to bring the remaining paintings back to their original beauty. There are free talks in the galleries and I was priveldged to hear the chief curator talk about the works of the exhibited Guardi Venetian paintings.
There is lift access to all floors and a very nice Atrium Caffè on the ground floor.
m. m.
I visited the Wallace Collection because of my lifelong interest in suits of armour from various eras. As expected I loved the Arms and Armour collection. However, the art collection is amazing. So many great works and I love the old style "parlour" hang. I will spend another day on my next trip across the pond. A must see....
M. B.
Absolutely AMAZING. A friend recommended it and I would suggest it to others- a hidden and not often heard about GEM!! The guides were very forthcoming and informative.
D.
Anyone living in London should definitely explore this little hidden treasure; you can spend here as much of little as you want to; some of the collection seems a bit random but you can always move on.
Located in a very central part of London(near station is Bond Street) but it seems to be in a completely different era in the beautiful Manchester Square; and the best part is that it is never too crowded.
S. H.
Good to visit. Quality collections.
Y. X.
When Manolo Blahnik meets high tea meets private art collection. There’s no way I could resist - here at The Wallace Collection restaurant.
Wallace Museum has long been one of my favorite museums in town, where they randomly put the famed rococo painting The Swing in the middle of a wall crammed among other pieces. They are currently doing a collab with Manolo Blahnik for a special exhibition. And the afternoon tea at the pink voguish dining hall is not one to miss
S. H.
An unbelievably wealthy family filled their home with extraordinary art. Ostentatious? Yes, yes, yes, but so many amazing things. Don't miss the tiny light-sensitive objects tucked away in covered cabinets, can spend hours on these alone.
G. D.
An outrageous collection of art and antiquities including miniatures and furniture, Reubens, Canaletto, Rembrandt, armor, looted African and Indian weapons and valuables, it can make your head spin. It's overwhelming and each room of the gigantic mansion is chock full. Give yourself some time. Hopefully there will be more critical interpretation as the art world engages in reflection.
Lovely courtyard café for tea and cake.
R. J.
One of London's hidden treasures is the Wallace Collection in Marylebone. They have a tremendous art collection set in a unique period property with matching furniture and artefacts. The galleries on the first floor have amazing paintings and they have an extensive armoury on the ground floor together with an excellent restaurant and coffee shop. Lower ground has a library, a lecture theatre and some small galleries. Don't miss this tranquil museum located only minutes away from the busy Oxford street at Manchester square. Best of all, it is free!
A. B.
What a museum...love all the collections!
C. O.
A free gallery with plenty of medieval weaponry, antique furniture and paintings from artists such as Rembrandt, Frans Hals, Fragonard, Canaletto amongst others
s. g.
Excellent collection in beautiful surroundings - and free! Nice cafe too.
R. G.
For fine arts, fine French 17th to 18th century furniture, decorative arts, Sevres porcelain, arms and armour etc. then this is the finest collection to visit and enjoy. Also there are lunch time talks and lectures which you can attend free of charge. Very accessable, excellent restaurant & shop, very well curated, informative publications..............One of the best museums and galleries in London
K. G.
Loved it. Beautiful building with amazing decor. Lots of art supported by a free phone app that will tell you all about any art work you point it at. Staff were great. I didnt go with children but they seem child friendly with activities for them listed on the website.
C. M.
This place is a hidden gem! Great works of art and not as crowded as other museums in London. Wonderful place to stroll on a rainy afternoon!
O. O.
Beautiful art gallery with great artifacts and interior designs spanning across a few centuries 😍. Highly recommend this place 👌. And the admission is free 👍
A. V.
Let me start by saying, the Armoury is the coolest thing. Wow. I don't know how any one in that era walked carrying all that let alone fought battles. The rest of the home/museum was beautiful as well. But wow the Armoury!
J. K.
A really good museum, lots of classic pieces of interesting things. Pleasant atmosphere.
M. B.
Great Gallery! I can't believe it is free to visit. Gorgeous art pieces and a very beautiful building. Everyone should see this place if you are into art.
P. W.
Breathtaking oasis in the middle of a quiet residential area. Eclectic collection of all manner of curio, art and history.
A. B.
The restaurant was absolutely beautiful. The gallery was amazing. Overall a lovely experience. We had the afternoon tea and all the food was perfect. Highly recommend.
B. F.
Amazing history and amazing art. Some of the 15th Century Flemish works just blow your mind. The detail is something else. I had to take pictures just so I could zoom in and see them more clearly. There is also some proper old stuff here. Think circa 1350 for the depiction of the Crucifixion. Another highlight has got to be the Samurai sword. The workmanship is something else and looks like it was made yesterday. Incredible.
L.
A lot to see! This woman was crazy to leave all of this art to the nation! She should’ve left it all to me!
Pity that I missed the time slot for the afternoon tea (up until 5pm!) as the garden looks stunning and the food appeared delicious too.
R. N.
Amazing collection of collections! Beautifully curated. Just off Oxford Street housed in a mansion off a quiet Square. Amour, ceramics, paintings and much much more!
L. G.
Great collection with fancy arts and armory. They have a large amount of high quality paints and China, as well as weapons.
Their afternoon tea in the garden was great at a good price too! Around 20 for a good tasting set per person was well worth it. Love this place and would be happy to come back again for both their collections and afternoon tea.
B. D.
Do not go to the tearoom if you want to leave a great gallery smiling. The service at the restaurant is terrible. The tearoom itself is also so stuffy, which made waiting 15 minutes after being seated to receive a glass of water (which I had to ask for) even worse. The staff walked straight past my hand when it was raised for attention and I was even told by a staff member who was doing nothing, "Apologies, I will not be serving you, this lady is your waitress". Which was fine, but then this waitress didn't see to our table once and then another lady brought our food through (after 30 minutes). The staff seem way more interested in gossiping and drinking in front of guests rather than serving them food. Having worked in the service industry myself, I can only diagnose this as weak, disorganised management. This set such a bad taste on what is otherwise a sublime collection. A shame.
S. M.
Wonderful boutique art collection displaying 18th century art. Stop by the serene restaurant that is filled with light and is a welcome oasis in the heart of Marylebone.
T. P.
Probably the best collection of weaponry and armour I've ever seen? It's free too, but I felt Compelled to donate £10 on the way out just to ensure it can keep going. Oh and there's art too if you're into that (lots of it).
Suggest doing the Moriartys Game trail from HiddenLondon as you pass by here during the game!
F. H.
Amazing building decorated with classic 16th century French style. Each room has a pallet and they are all filled with amazing paintings and all kinds of ancient weapons.
A. R.
Amazing great works of art furniture clocks etc etc if your into this sort of thing well worth a visit they also have the Laughing Cavalier a world famous picture
K. R.
Fantastic private art collection. Free entry. The Armoury alone is worth a visit. The miniatures are also worth stopping for.
H.
The place was absolutely beautiful, the interior design the paintings - it exceeded my expectations, however I noticed me and my friend were being followed across 2 rooms,we were heavily stared at by a particular employee and made us feel unwelcome, despite this the rest of the staff were amazing and some striked conversation about the changes in the interior over time.
M. G.
Really good museum. It has paintings, armours, and sculptures. Inside an amazing building. Don't miss the restaurant!
r. s.
So many pieces of lovely old furniture and amazing pictures great place to spend a hour or 2
A. P.
Go see this if you like art or kooky houses or armor or things that are interesting. It’s worth a bit of a stopover, but if you are staying anywhere near Oxford Street you must go.
Also breakfast at the restaurant was excellent!
R. P.
Amazing place, far too much to take in on one visit. We went for the Franz Hals exhibition, which was good but a bit pricy
J. C.
One of the greatest art and armour collections in all the world, the Wallace Collection offers a unique way by which to experience the art which lends itself to a far more comfortable and interesting experience than visiting an ordinary museum. I would strongly reccomend anyone in London to visit the Wallace Collection, to not do so would be to deprive yourself of what would have been a most immersive and, perhaps, enjoyable experiences of art.
M. A.
This is a real hidden gem of London - a free museum featuring ornately wallpapered rooms with a vast collection of art, antiques, and armour on display. The indoor cafe courtyard is an extra treat - well known for its afternoon tea.
王.
The collections are amazing. Not as crowded as the other museums in London. A great place to visit.
E. H.
The Wallace Collection is fantastic, split between an unmatched collection of European and Asian Armour and also a lovely Art collection. The cafe is in a wonderful setting in the central atrium and has a great menu with high tea etc.
C. J.
Superb collection and the currency Frans Hals - The Male Portrait is just astonishingly fabulous. This place is a hidden gem of London, a must see!!
B. Y.
Excellent exhibits of paintings, furniture, and a vast collection of armours. Rubens landscape painting is one of the more famous and popular. Another one of his landscape painting is hung in the National Gallery. The two are supposed to be hung together.
I had a late lunch at the museum's courtyard, cauliflower soup and seabass. They were better than expected.
B. S.
Amazing collection, very friendly staff.Free entrance but if you like you can give some donation to help improve the museum.
B.
A stunning collection in an original mansion, the collection includes some real masterpieces such as a rare Pisanello medal, a beautiful Andrea del Sarto and Velasquez
L. P.
An amazing collection and free entry. I recommend a visit when you're in London. The restaurant/cafe was also very good and reasonable priced.
M. M.
It is a nice collection!
D. V.
Gorgeous Art-museum, with a lovely and fairly-priced afternoon tea set in a glass roofed courtyard. Very friendly and attentive staff. Highly recommended !
J. B.
This museum and home cover a city block! Wallace donated it all to London with the express condition that none of it would ever be sold or loaned! It is spectacular!
d.
Very interesting museum. The weapons and armor are very fascinating and definitely my favorite part of the museum. All the items are kept in pristine condition. The museum doesn't really look that large from the outside but there is definitely a lot to see
H. S.
An excellent selection of art and artifacts set in a stunning location. Free entry, but suggested voluntary donation. Impressive looking café set in the inner courtyard.
M. K.
An amazing collection of paintings. Iwas particularly fascinated by a room that just featured views of Venice.
S. P.
Great museum to visit. Has lots of sculptures, paintings and impressively armoury from Indian & Persia. Very well curated. Took us about 3 hours just to walk around the two floors. Definately worth spending your rainy day in here.
s. d.
It's art and its free! (Although do make a donation!) Selection of Canalettos and Reubens. See The Laughing Cavalier - not for free though, it's part of a pay for exhibition at the moment.
t.
Little gem in Manchester Square. Whimsical collection full of 18th century French paintings that coincides with my artistic inclination. We will definitely come back.
J. W.
So much to see. Will need more than one visit to take it all in so did the "greatest hits" today
A. T.
This is an amazing exhibition. So much to see and enjoy. Wonderful pictures, furniture, china, and so much more! Beautiful!
M. M.
One of London's top 20 hidden cultural gems. A splendid interior will allow you go back to the past. Revelation awaits you at the door of this amazing place. Your human feeling will transform into divine.
V. R.
Harbour for your knowledge, soul and inspiration in the heart of the vibrant city.
K. W.
A wonderful collection of art and interesting relics in the centre of London. A haven of peace and tranquility.
S. M.
This place had lot of old and authentic objects If you love history and want to know about old era and its war and weapons that were being used this museum is a place to go.
D. T.
This lovely little museum is free, and contains one of my favourite paintings by Fragonard. It also contains other notable 18th century French artists, such as Boucher, and a stunning collection of armoury.
A. D.
Awesome collection of different artifacts including weapons and armour from armies such as the ottoman, Indian, French and Persian. There were also many art pieces and the furniture of Marie Antoinette! Very cool day out
J. G.
Amazing collection of art and armour in a beautiful house. Very nice restaurant in covered courtyard to stop and have some refreshments before tackling the first floor!!! I can highly recommend the carrot cake!!!
V.
Impressive, I was stunned by the beautiful collection, Frans Hals is superb. Lovely food in the restaurant.
S. S.
One of my favourite places in London. A stunning collection of art and artefacts, notable for its abundance of 18th century paintings and stunning, sumptuous interiors. If you are looking for Big Names such as Rubens, Velasquez, and Fragonard, all can be found here, but the collection also features lesser known artists of the less appreciated arts including everything from still lives and landscapes to pistol carvings and tea sets. Well worth several trips or more to soak everything in.
It's worth noting that you currently need to pre-book your entry time on their website. This is to control the pandemic situation and is free of charge.
S.
A really fascinating and beautiful gallery, once the private home of Sir Richard Wallace, 4th Marquess of Hertford. The artworks collection is not only fascinating but beautifully displayed in their original home location. There is also a really stunning tearoom with waiter service at the centre the building.
h. m.
Great decorative arts collection
J. B.
I had a wonderful few hours walking around the Wallace Collection. It is filled with a plethora of arts including renaissance paintings and European arms and armour. Moreover, I joined the gallery talk at 1pm and it was excellent, funny and engaging. I highly recommend the Smartify app too; it feels like I'm taking home some of my favourite pieces of art from my visit.
V. H.
Go to the Franz Hals exhibition. It is fantastic, get your headphones and enjoy Grayson Perry's take on each portrait.
d. c.
Incredible legacy to the nation! When it reopens it’s a must see - full of wonderful art, objects etc.
T. D.
Very interesting place to visit. European armour collection is quite impressive. Guided tour to discuss the different paintings was also excellent.
D. W.
A really great collection, and well worth the visit.
I would have liked to be able to buy a book or books specifically about the medieval illuminated paintings and wax miniatures, as well as the religious items and paintings.
G. C.
Amazing collection of superb paintings, furniture, sculptures, ceramics and clocks. Free entry too!
L. K.
The Wallace collection is one of the most interesting places in London
It is one persons collection of random stuff
Highlights:
1. Weapons collection - especially the knight astride a horse with full horse armour
2. Layout of the place
3. Over the top furnishings
4. Collection of miniatures
G. C.
Amazing collection in central London - Marylebone area. A huge collection of furniture, famous paintings and objects, armour and weapons. And all of these for free. Allow more than a half day to see everything. One of the must places to visit in London if you like impressive ceilings, chandeliers, expensive curtains and furniture.
H. H.
A beautiful and historically rich inventory brought to it's fullest attention by its staff and presentation. A truly unique and iconic collection. Would recommend to anyone looking to spend and hour or so indulging in artistic history
N. A.
Absolutely stunning collection of art and heritage. Was a pleasure to discover this place, every room leaves you in awe of its elegance and old age grandeur. Transports you into a different era of quizzing glasses, horse drawn carriages and petticoats. A must see for Art & history lovers.
D. J.
Great collection of artifacts. Specially Armoury. And you get to see a stately town house.
S. A.
A great collection of wonderful works. So much to see. Not to be missed.
d. m.
Amazing space and brilliant collection. We particularly loved the armoury. Worth a few visits.
N. T.
Unfortunately the Hals exhibition is in a gloomy cellar with poor lighting.à little furniture would give context.this great painter deserves better. Nick turner
C. Y. C.
One of the hidden gems of London.
The building itself is 18/19t century townhouse having been a home to the highly affluent Sir Richard Wallace.
G. H.
I find some of the exhibits OTT but enjoyed the Franz Hals exhibition.
J. W.
This is easily one of the most impressive galleries that I have been to. Their collections of European arts and armours are second to none. The galleries are well laid out, spacious, and easy to navigate. Definitely a must see for art lovers.
C. L.
Breathtaking!
A full on experience - almost too much to take in on 1 visit. 25 galleries, packed with exquisite 18th century paintings, porcelain, furniture & armoury.
Displayed in sumptuous surroundings - Titian, Goya, Fragonard, Velazquez, Hals & Rembrandt all to be enjoyed for free!
The staff are polite & helpful without being intrusive .
A beautiful dining area is available with plentiful seating dotted around the museum.
Y. Y.
A stunning collection of paintings, sculptures, and furniture. It has a world class collection of French decorative art. Easy to navigate. A nice cafeteria. Grand.
h. m.
Always a joy to go to the Wallace. Beautiful house, wonderful art and ceramics. Suitably creepy armoury. The restaurant is worth a visit too, especially for afternoon tea.
D. B.
Lovely quiet little museum with lots of interesting artifacts. The armoury was particularly great. Got sprung by a stranger asking me to review the museum at the exit though.
V. V.
A huge private collection for public use. Beside all the paintings, there is a great number of clocks for all horology fans.
N. T.
Lovely free museum, great cafe and even the special exhibitions are free. One of my favourite museums in London
E. D.
A free national museum displaying superb works of art in an historic London town house. The collection was acquired principally in the 19th century by the 3rd and 4th Marquesses of Hertford and Sir Richard Wallace, the illegitimate son of the 4th Marquess. The 28 rooms, many recently refurbished with elaborate gilding & wall silks, present collections of French 18th-century painting, furniture and porcelain (many once owned by Madame de Pompadour and Queen Marie-Antoinette) together with paintings by Titian, Canaletto, Rembrandt and Gainsborough, Hals' 'The Laughing Cavalier' and Fragonard's 'The Swing', four armouries and wonderful Renaissance treasures. Dine in the beautiful glazed courtyard restuarant.
p.
Manageable size means you can enjoy the variety of fine art paintings, weapons & very nice coffee shop/bar. Staff are very helpful & polite. Excellent VFM.
o. l.
A beautiful house, i liked the armour collection and the rembrandt paintings, the staff member were very nice and its free and very near oxford street.
D. T.
We thoroughly enjoyed this unexpected pleasure. We learned about the Wallace Collection on a walking tour of Marylebone. How awesome to imagine what it was like to live in such a premium location, and collect from around the world. Thankfully, it's been preserved for us plebians.
Z. S.
Lots of the same renaissance works, lots of nice furniture & weapons/armour but a third of the upstairs section is inaccessible and the cake in the cafe was way too rich and heavy.
r.
Loved the Gallery. Had afternoon tea. It was nice.
R. W.
Have not visited for a while, and had forgotten just how much is here.A world class collection of Dutch paintings.Would reccomend a visit to anyone. And the courtyard cafe is not be be missed.

W. A. Q.
Amazing.
B. D.
Pleasant visit. Probably would have rated higher but many rooms weren't opened.
P. M.
This relatively quiet townhouse has an art collection worthy of the world's finest museums. Especially notable are the rococo 18th century artworks from pre revolutionary France such as the swing by fragonard. The Wallace collection is a must see for art history lovers.
M. H.
Absolutely wonderful way to spend a rainy afternoon! Can’t believe it’s free! Don’t forget to download the Smartify app which lets you scan the art and read more about it!
L. W.

Really interesting & clean pairings. Could just have done with more seats to rest & reflect
M. W.
Definitely a must see! I was blown away by the splendor! I have to come back with more time to spare one day. Beautiful collection!

Wonderfull art in a magnificient setting ,lovely restaurant/cafe also
T. C.
Great collection. Free but donations welcomed. The 'goya' exhibit was disappointingly small
S. L. (. N. M.
Incredible painting collection from Sir Richard Wallace.
High tea is average but nice atmosphere.
N. K.
A great collection or art and armour, and a lovely space to see them in. Entrance is free, yet the visiting numbers are far fewer than the national gallery of portrait gallery, so you can really enjoy the collection in peace and take your time. Being a privately funded collection, the building is in very good condition which really helps elevate the experience. Finally, the cafe-restaurant is pricey but also very nice. Absolutely worth a visit .
S. M.
Loved every minute of visit! Stunning collection.
M. W.
Eclectic collection. However I was here for a lecture. I'd recommend checking the website for what's on.
A. E.
Well worth a visit if you are in the vicinity. A large number of great masters displayed beautifully with a range of antiquities from the French, Dutch and more schools of art!
J. G.

One of the best public museum experiences in London a well curated private collection. I have used the cafe for business meetings in the past. Fabulous atrium/cafe area and your business prospects can muse the artefacts before or after the meeting.
The suites of armour and weaponry are truly terrifying.
F. P.

S. A.
Bit hard to navigate your way round as there aren't many signs or maps about but interesting stuff and worth a look.
N. H.
Little known hidden gem, lovely decor and splendid collection.
W. L.
To be able to walk through an art display with loads of paintings. Armoury and other antiques in the center of London for free is amazing. It has an nicely set out coffee shop. They do have a donations box so drop a couple of quid to help keep these treasures open. It was a great place to stroll around and for free worth a visit. Well set out.
D. M.
Definitly the best museum/art collection in London, there's a bit of everything, and best of it, it's free, but worth giving it a donation, as it totally deserves it!!
A. M.
An impressive private collection that enables big names of XVII and XVIII Century French painting to shine in a dream urban mansion at the heart of Marylebone. Friendly and helpful staff and a lovely inner patio with a charming cafe. Also amazes with a cherry picked selection of Spanish golden names like Velázquez or Murillo, and a handful of Italian masters, mainly sculpture. A space to enjoy the inspiration of the now lost european aristocrats with outstanding wealth with taste.
I regret that the shop could have had a bigger assortment of prints and well designed souvenirs according to the collection - although I bought some botanical repros and china. Definitely, a great jewelry box to travel back to better times of golden beauty.

It was wonderful to discover this hidden gem nearby Oxford Street. I will be definitely back when the restrictions will be lifted. Currently some parts are closed, but it is definitely worth to visit. There were just a few visitors and many safety measures have been put in place (I think even too many). Staff is very friendly and helpful. If I wouldn't be in a hurry I would spend two hours there, stunning concentration of the masterpieces.
D. D.
Always lovely to be here, it's still free although none you can book 📚 time slots for your museum tour. That said, all... And I mean ALL the staff are still as amazing as ever, and although they have had a 3 or 4 month break they all seem pleased and eager as always to invite you into their slice of heaven. Loved this visit and although not everything is open, how can you complain? It's all free.
I. R.
Beautiful place, with beautiful art and also with wonderful atmosphere.
A. M.
Beautiful old fashioned house with beautiful furniture and many famous works of art. Staff is super friendly!
A.
A free museum! Collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture, arms and armour. Afternoon Tea.
M. R.
Stunning private collection tucked away behind busy Oxford Street - free!!! The house is huge and has a huge collection of Baroque and Rococo art, paintings, furniture, vases, clocks... The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely go back. The only shame us that the lovely cafe' is closed, i would have loved to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere but COVID restrictions do not make it possible.
L. S.
Must see! Amazing collection... Always puzzled and astonished by the handworked masterpieces of grand generations!
S. M.
One of our favourite little museums with fabulous collections and temporary exhibitions. Great stop over between Marylebone and Oxford Street shopping too.

Amazing place!
J. H.
Nice collection and feels quite intimate. Went on a Saturday; not too busy, but not really so quiet either.
T. S.
Such a wonderful gallery, it’s certainly a must see!
M. S.
Best gallery in London. Fantastic Freanch paintings and objects of art. FREE
J. H.
Collection has a wide variety of different paintings, objects of everyday use and armour. I was really impressed with the amount of them. Highly recommed to everyone
K. G.
Gorgeous place to visit. Would thoroughly recommend the afternoon tea!
F. K.
A beautiful house museum /art gallery with incredible original works of art.
The staff are most helpful.
T. W.
Hidden gem art and artifact gallery. Lovely area to explore too!
E. D.
Lovely intimate museum. Our visit started with warm welcome from staff. Lots to see... My 5 yo son had to be careful not to touch! He loved the extensive armoury displays. Cafe is waiter service only so quite posh.
L. S.
Absolutely recommend giving this place a visit! I'd been to London many times, but never went to see the Wallace Collection. My cousin lives a few blocks away and recommended I go when I was staying with him. Not only is the artwork amazing, but the setting (stately home) makes a gorgeous backdrop.
I. D.
Fabulous interiors and world class art (and a nice cafe/restaurant)
A. S.
A beautiful gallery in a wonderful building. Well worth visiting.
C. M.
Lovely small gallery packed with gems. Really attentive staff
J. F.
Good place to take a tea break after the museum. The price was very reasonable, and the quality of tea was good too!
E. G.
You have to go to experience the feel of back in time !
C. M.
Very nice and free admission museum. Kind staff and a good visit in general. The Great Gallery is the nicest room.
M. H.
Limited options at the restaurant but that does not matter. I visited there numerous times and the food is always excellent...and I absolutely love the Wallace collection.
J. E.
Wow what a display of wonderful art and antiques. Lovely staff and a great venue for a snack, cocktail or afternoon tea
c. n.
Fantastic collection and highly recommend the restaurant, Arms and armour a real treat if it's your kind of thing.
S. T.
So impressed with the range of art and antiques on display. Amazing to think that one person had collected it all - a stark reminder of the gap between the poor and the extremely wealthy!
The house displays its collection with a level of elegance and you'll never get bored with the vast range of collectables on display. Must-sees include The Laughing Cavalier by Frans Hals, a captivating example of the Baroque style, painted during the age of the Dutch Golden Age.
a. h.
A fantastic collection of art housed in a great setting in the heart of the West End of London
d. n.
Absolutely wonderful hidden gem. There is a great collection, and the tea room is very good as well
M. J.
Oh my goodness! I am so glad I took the time to come to the Wallace Collection. This collection is full of antique weapons, suits of armor, busts, paintings by many famous artists, and exquisite antique furniture. The whole building is full to the brim with unique pieces. It took me a day and a half to make my way slowly through ( the time varies person to person). I also had a lovely afternoon tea in their restaurant, I believe it was £19.50 for the whole shebang without alcohol. I also paid to attend the Helmet Head exhibit which was very interesting, I'd recommend it. You do have to pay to enter extra exhibits, the student ticket was £10. There is also a library located by the exhibit and if you are looking for somewhere peaceful, I'd recommend stopping by.
J. B.
Almost as big as the national gallery, it deserves to be better known
K. S.
Love this place, so much to see, right on the centre of London.
m. a.
Very cute exposition on Manolo Blanik, warning: very girly!
L. V.
This is a wonderful museum. It isn't the top destination on most people's lists, which makes it an ideal destination. If possible, take one of the London Walk guided tours here - you will learn so much. If not, get the audio guide. Simply fascinating. The armor collection might interest older teens, though I wouldn't bring younger children here unless they have a keen interest in these types of museums.
v. c.
How I've never found this before I will never know. Staggering. Inspiring. It's a must see. Truly.
k. s.
Discovered the Wallace Collection some years ago and have enjoyed numerous visits since. Love it.
F. F.
It's free to visit ... a good stop to spend 1-2 hours. Not far from Oxford street
M. A.
OMG, not so crowded so much beauty to take in. I'm going back for more
J. H.
We went to a special exhibition of early colonial Indian art. The exhibition itself was excellent. However, what made it a 4 star experience was that we booked a 2:15pm slot, but prevented from entering immediately because of overcrowding. We had not gotten around the exhibition by 3pm when we were asked to leave, which was frustrating and inconsiderate.
D. H.
Lovely place to visit. And the laughing cavalier is on show
S. C.
An impressive mix of paintings, furniture and objects in this charming former home of a rich collector. There is also a well stocked armoury with well preserved suits of armour and militaria. Repeat visits are worth it.
O. S.
Excellent museum in a beautiful town house building. An amazing collection of stuff, a lot of it acquired in auctions after the French revolution.
I particularly liked the armoury displays, especially the oriental part. The galleries upstairs were more a mixed bag. Nice courtyard cafe, a bit on the expensive side. The museum is free though!
Early Saturday afternoon was a decent time to visit, not too busy.
B. L.
Absolutely phenomenal! How did I not visit here before on one of my prior trips to London. Don't miss this place if you are the slightest bit impressed with interior decorating and art. Beautiful in every way and very manageable to do it in a few hours plus you'll have time for a delicious pastry in the atrium style cafe in the middle of the building. A gem!!!
B. W.
Fantastic museum with lots to see. Armour from around the world and very old. Amazing collection on the ground floor. Free cloakroom and good restaurant. Could spend hours looking at art the ornaments and art.
I've been here numerous times. Free to enter, I tend to give a gift on exit as it is such an amazing exhibition.
M.
Absolutely wonderful museum which is like walking through someone's private house. Well, actually, that's exactly what it is - or rather, was! Every sumptuous room is a winner, packed to the rafters with French porcelain and paintings by the likes of Velazquez, Titian and Rembrandt, beautifully displayed against rich red, deep blue blend emerald green brocade wallpaper. You'll need way more than two hours to get round this place - in fact, far better to split it across a couple of days. There's also a cafe and restaurant in the centre of the museum, in a covered courtyard serving very tasty fayre, including brunch and the staff are very pleasant, albeit a wee bit slow - coffee took an age to arrive but maybe they're short staffed in the kitchen? Entrance to the museum is free but please, make a voluntary donation. This place deserves it.
H. I.
Incredible collection. Must visit place in London.
P. G.
Lovely museum. Slightly old fashioned and low key. Extraordinary private collection in the original house - beautiful and astonishing. Lacking modern curation (though I find that adds to the charm) Excellent temporary exhibitions downstairs.
A. P.
A truly beautiful place to visit! Definitely one of London's gems! Must visit
R. L.
What a gem! I love nosing around this collection whenever I'm passing by. The staff/ volunteers are very passionate about the paintings, antiques and features of the rooms and offer up great facts and stories.
The restaurant is also very good with excellent dishes for vegetarians and meat eaters.
Looking forward to my next visit
V. I.
Great place, a hidden gem that unfortunately doesn't get marketed enough. The museum is packed with different artefacts, ranging from art and sculptures, vases and Japanese porcelain to an impressive collection of arms & armours from different periods. If I was to recommend just 2 museums in London, one will surely be this one - it combines just enough of everything! And it's all free! And if you get tired sit for a bit in the cafe, which has an amazing atmosphere. Do NOT miss this one out!
J. J.
A truly fantastic museum in the heart of London showing impressive collections of art, paintings, china, historic artefacts, armours, medieval weapons, old furniture, religious objects in amazingly adorned rooms and stunning chandeliers. Friendly staff, great location. Ideal to spend a rainy day. Not too busy either. Wholly recommend. A really nice surprise.
D. B.
Beautiful galleries with large variety of objects & paintings, something for everyone. Cafe was open prior to 2nd lockdown and social distancing well observed. One way viewing in operation. Metered parking nearby if you come by car but CC also payable.
g. b.
Really beautiful gallery, staff so full of knowledge and so helpful
K. W.
The collection is gorgeous and walking through the home is an amazing experience.
A. A.
Brilliant Rubens exhibition which has to be booked. Enjoyed lunch in the restaurant which was quiet & unhurried. A good day out with lots to see.
A. M.
Wonderful personal collection now turned into a museum. Went there specially for the armoury but everything was good.
C. S.
You'll love this place .Visit it and you won't regret it.
Q. P.
Wonderfully atmospheric place
C. A.
Definitely worth a look. A hidden gem in Manchester Square. The Canaletto paintings are something to behold, utterly beautiful artwork. Great weapons area and armour for kids, lots of eateries nearby and a beautiful building. There is a cafe inside with a glass roof, good facilities and a good day out for sure.
I. N.
Really interesting collection of items. Good variety as well! The canon is my favourite. They do a good afternoon tea as well in the centre of the house with lots of natural light flooding in. You could go just for that and not be disappointed.
M. A.
Aight fam it's calm
J. M.
Fantastic experience at this lesser known art gallery.
Less crowded than National Gallery. Homely atmosphere.
Great variety of exhibits: paintings, miniatures, furniture, armour, ceramics. All just amazing.
Totally loved our visit.
Superb restaurant on site as well as coffee area. We enjoyed both.
Disappointed to hear that there will soon be an entry fee. Currently there's a voluntary contributions box at the door.
S. D.
Aside from being a supremely beautiful building in the heart of Marylebone, the Wallace Collection has a very impressive collection of Dutch masters and 18th century French furniture. The lovely atrium (which is sadly closed during post-covid times but will surely open back up soon) is a bright and airy place for lunch or a drink. A heart weapons collection from all over the world lines the back half of the museum’s collection. It’s a wonderful space and absolutely worth a visit!
A. I.
Very nice and impressive collection in this museum.
M. C.
Wau, super place
E. B.
Wonderful place with lovely paintings and artefacts. The 2 Ruben's paintings were worth going to see. Lovely restaurant
P. A.
Wonderful collection, they are displayed well and maintained. Carry on.
M. H.
Fabulous free to enter collection of French art and furniture from 1600s to French Revolution. Our group paid for a guided tour and he was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Worth paying several visits as there is so much to see and a restaurant in the courtyard.
W. P.
Great Art,wonderful to see.Friendly helpful staff, Loved The Wallace Collection.

One of my favourite museums ever
R. F.
This is one of London's hidden gems. While only 10mins walk from both Baker At and Oxford Street it's always quiet. But the collection is superb.
The exterior is being restored so forgive the scaffolding but the art is gorgeous and the armoury is absolutely fascinating. The vastness of the collection is staggering. You could spend hours at a time enjoying it. I'm particularly fond of the various swords from around the world and complete horse armour
M. R.
Always a delight, full of wonderful things. Today I concentrated on the beautiful collection of snuff boxes. You can get food in the court and enjoy the most celebrated art gallery in London. The house is a most satisfying example of it's type and era.
S. M.
Free to get in, a place to go and see historic artwork, priceless pieces of history 👏👏👍👍👌
J. M.
A hidden gem. Some of the best arms and armor anywhere. Not on the tourist hit list so no crowds and free entrance.
M. P.
Amazing collection of Art and great place for afternoon tea
L. A.
This is an excellent place for art lovers! The collections are huge, with detailed explanations to enhance your knowledge about art. There's a restaurant / café, too - and a small shop to buy souvenirs. The museums is completely free and it's far away from touristy crowds. It looks tiny from the outside, but when you're inside you would think it's really large. There are permanent and temporary exhibitions/collections. Perfect to spend your free time alone or with friends!
B.
Not only are there beautiful must-see portraits (including the Laughing Cavalier) , but also you can see impressive relics from around the world.
S. T.
Great service. Beautifully presented food.Calm atmosphere.
D. P.
What a fantastic collection! I wasn't sure what to expect but it exceeded anything I'd anticipated. The staff are all very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. We also stopped at the café for coffee and a cake. Gluten free options were available which was a pleasant surprise. Well worth a visit.
R. F.
One of those wonderful hidden gems dotted around London. I never would have found it were it not for a treasure hunt we went on.
Also experienced access in a wheelchair which was a first for me (possible but limited to a single lift in a tight stairwell).
The collection itself is beautiful and varied and the guides are knowledgeable and very friendly. Access is via donation (including £0.00) and I would encourage anyone to leave a little something so it can keep running.
Well worth a visit.
R. G.
This museum contains a very unique and special collection of art, including some very unusual items. It is not huge but it is packed with great art. There is a very nice cafe to get food and drinks in an atrium area in the middle of the building. Plan to spend at least 2 hours there to see everything.
H. C.
We had never heard of this place but wanted a museum to visit that wasn't too far to walk from Euston Station (It took us about 30 minutes). So glad we came here, it's magnificent! Apart from the fact that it is FREE to get in, the collection here is spectacular. The artwork is very impressive (e.g. The Laughing Cavalier) but the collection of guns, swords etc must be the most comprehensive I've ever seen. We had lunch in the restaurant, which was nice but quite pricey (not considering the entry is free though, so it seemed only right to put a few quid in the pot, and this is London..!) There wasn't much choice at the restaurant either but it was handy for a light lunch.
The rooms in the museum are all beautifully laid out but what we liked the most is just how close you can get to the artwork, there were none of those rope barriers that mean you are feet away from the work; you can go right up to each painting.
I noticed there were a lot of paintings about hunting and game etc and the guard informed me that the building used to be a hunting lodge a couple of hundred years ago, and was surrounded by countryside...incredible when it is now in central London! Go, you'll love it!
R. R.
Excellent! An ideal way to spend a few hours on a wet Sunday morning!
F. D.
Stunning venue...the exhibition itself was is very substantial. Lots of armour from across different periods and cultures. If you are on your own you could do it in a day. If you are taking children to see this exhibition, in particular young children it may need two trips. Worth a trip.
M. M.
I was so happy to have found this amazing place! It is so much better than going to V&A or British museum which often are just far too crowded. This is an amazing museum with a huge collection of paintings, armouries, furnitures, chinaware, and ornaments. They are just so delicate and beautiful, many are very Louis XIV collections. You need at least 3 hours here to have a good look around. There is a lovely tea house with natural sun light, reasonable price. They also do free tours, which really are worth booking as the guides are so knowledgeable. I highly recommend this place.
D. T. R.
beautiful museum with nice models and artwork

The Wallace Collection 2020 - A Covid Visit
The Wallace Collection is yet another free offering that is available to tourists and locals alike. From the impressive Reuben's in the entrance hall to wolrd famous Portrait of The Laughing Cavalier. The collection has something for everyone.
Whether it's the splendour of the building and the lavish rooms inside or the eclectic nature of the collection from stunning pieces of furniture through to the collection of arms and armour from around the world.
Situated just off, Oxford Street, it's easily accessible and should be on everyone's to do list.
It's celebrating its 120th anniversary this year (2020) and has recently reopened (15th July 2020), following a 3 month lockdown due to the Covid19 Virus. Only the 3rd time ever it's closed its doors, the other times being caused by two World Wars.
The Covid restrictions have meant the experience of visiting is vastly different to normal and I would advise the following:
1. It's a requirement to book for a visit, so ensure you go to the website and book a time & date suit. I would reccomend a Monday morning. Give yourself at least 90 minutes for a visit. The museum currently closes at 3pm.
2. Londoners work together, so remember this is a visit for everyone not just you.
3. For the best experience use the reccomended Gallery Guide. You can download it from the website or use the QR code on display when you arrive (the Museum has free Wifi)
4. This highlights 2 or 3 objects in each gallery which gives you a great first taste of what the museum has to offer without creating bottlenecks. Many of the rooms at the begining of the tour only hold two to three people at a time. So better to see two objects and move on than hold everyone up outside.
5. Keep moving wiere you can and always be considerate of others (let the elderly & disabled go first and amke sure they have access to seating).
6. The visit is free so if you can afford it please make a donation to continue the upkeep of this magnificent treasure or treat yourself
7. Follow the 2 meter markers on the floor (by all means move away to take a photograph which is allowed here but remeber to keep your 2m distance at all times)
8. If you go on a Momday you can wrap your visit with a visit to Marylebone's oldest pub The Barley Mow a 5 minutes walk away. A monday madness deal offers you a Pie, Mash, peas and gravy and a pint or your choice (or glass of wine) for just £12.50 and is the perfect ending to the day.
If we all do our bit we can support galleries and independent businesses dor generations as Londoners have done for centuries.
Enjoy!
K. P.
Fantastic exhibition very informative pre view video. Fantastic to see the landscapes together.
T. I.
Probably my favourite museum in London. It’s not too big but filled with interesting collection. I highly recommended the free tours as well, I’ve been through it twice and both guides have different interesting bits to explain.
Other than that, absolutely have to visit the lovely restaurant in their courtyard too. It’s bright, beautiful, and I had lovely experience having lunch there.
B. B.
Beautiful collection. I could spend all day here!
S. M.
Phenomenal and extensive galleries in a beautiful place. Feels like the best of the Armouries, the National Gallery, NPG and Bowes Museum in rooms akin to Buckingham Palace. Great food with excellent service and fair prices. Personal favourites are the portrait miniatures, fabulous medieval tracery cupboard and one of Lawrence's most gloriously beautiful portrait canvases. A must see free gallery which is easily overlooked by visitors.
M. M.
We stopped in for lunch and had a nice little sandwich. The staff were excellent and very professional.
C. C.
An incredible location housing an assortment of stunning collection's. Well worth a visit.
J. S.
Nice afternoon out and stopped for a nice coffee and cake
J. V. D. Z.
Super collection... Not sure why it has free entrance. Just go and enjoy 😎
S. C.
For this is an absolute must see in London with the added plus that it's relatively unswamped with tourists. The detail in some of the exhibits simply astounds.
D. B.
Just adore this place. Its a mini Buck House.
r. d.
cafe/restaurant was a bit chaotic but the collection itself is excellent.
M. O.
Great collection of swords and armor along with the paintings. This was the second time there. First was before covid and there was more to see. There is a one way system in place, but that only means more time in one gallery to really take it all in.
S. R.
Beautiful house full of great works of art and antiques in room settings. A gem just five minutes from Oxford Street and free to visit. Afternoon tea in the lovely atrium restaurant highly recommended. Book in advance as it gets very busy.
C.
There is no charge. The building and decorations in the rooms are sumptuous and definitely worth visiting. Like a stately home. The rooms are packed with many different types of artifacts - from beautiful old paintings by many artists and china, to ornate armour, weapons and daggers. There seemed to be a tour at 2.30pm. Or you can rent an audio guide.
There is a restaurant in the covered courtyard for dining or afternoon tea and also a cafe for drinks and snacks. Had tea and a muffin. Tea came in wrought iron small teapot. Generous amount and reasonable. Setting is nice and service good and friendly. On Sat house viewing closed at 5pm.
N. T.
Sumptuous rooms, lovely wallpaper and curtains, stuffed with paintings of girls on swings, peacocks, flowers, undressed goddesses floating in fluffy clouds. French 17 and 18C mainly, some of Marie Antoinette's furniture. Exhibition right now of watercolor s from 18C India, interesting commentary. Good stuff.
D. “. B.
Loved this place. Amazing collection of art, medieval armour and weaponry from all over the world, showcased in a wonderful building decorated like a palace. The cafe was cool, airy and wide open with a nice range of food and drink.
P. S.
Breath-taking collection, as well as the building itself, and a great concert space as it turns out. Also an elegant café / restaurant.
A. C.
A really beautiful place preserved since the 1800 as it was, a fabulous collection of paintings including rembrant and furniture. A simply beautiful place to spend an afternoon.
O. B.
I've lived in London all my life and I've never been here. What an idiot.
The Wallace Collection is a mix of art, history and seriously lavish interiors. The downstairs galleries which house the armoury and weapons exhibits are fascinating although there is almost too much to take in. Upstairs is the majority of the art and incredible furniture. I loved walking through the house, taking in the sumptuous decors of each room. It's like a palace or stately home...but free!
As a side note, if you are bringing a large bag or backpack with you, you will be required to leave it in the cloakroom (it's free anyway). Just something to be aware of if you are carrying necessities with you.
Y. M.
beautiful collection with comfortable tea corner. Love ro visit again.
K. M.
Excellent free museum. While informative signage could be better inside (the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars, not 5), this museum hosts not only a stunning collection of Rocco art (paintings, furniture, snuff boxes, etc.), but also has an amazing collection of armour, one of the best curated collections I've seen in a museum of its size.
Note: Make sure to go upstairs and check out "The Swing".
I. H.
Just Wow!!!! Awesome place for art lovers and the guides are very knowledgeable
M. L.
This is a MUST see for any antique enthusiast in London.
The collection itself is excellently curated and mind-blowing in its range. The medieval armour is a particular highlight.
The setting being a house, it really makes you feel as though you are walking through a personal collection rather than a museum which adds to the intimacy of the collection.
A. R.
Really surprised by how much I loved this museum. I didn't know much about it and turned up about 10:45, and was informed by the helpful welcomer that there was a guided tour at 11. I went on the tour and it was fascinating, a really great tour. The collection itself was also really interesting, a very eclectic collection. Loved it!
H. S.
One of our favorite places to visit in London. The fact that it's free (although donations are encouraged) makes it all the more wonderful. Spectacular art and furniture in a stunning setting. If you're not a fan of big, sterile museums, this is the place for you.
I. l.
Guys, it is amazing!!!! For any of you who haven't visited this place but only checking on Google maps, I totally recommend this place to you!!!! You must go, it is so amazing ❤❤❤❤❤ All rooms are lavishly furnished and decorated, all collections are so fine and exquisite. You get to see the finest collection of europe in one house!!!! And the guided tour was amazing. (Especially the lady named Philippe) Absolutely loved it.
C. T.
Fascinating museum 5 minutes walk north of Oxford Street (London) lovely old house full of beautiful paintings reflecting society of the time. Great restaurant offering a wide range from coffee and cake to an excellent lunch.. very enjoyable. Worth a second visit as so much to see. Free entry.
F. D.
Enjoyed especially the Canalettos
M. M.
One of the most extraordinary museum of London! You can't miss it if you love art, architecture and of course rococo! The inside is absolutely amazing and there is so much to see. I will definitely go back later!
L. R.
Omg! What am amazing place to visit! Everything looks fabulous and so rich of history!❤👌
M. P.
A substantive collection of paintings from the 16th to the 19th century in the beautiful setup of a rich man's city palace. It's a delightful mix, with the addition of one of the best collections of antique furniture I've seen so far.
As an overall experience, one of the top 5 museums in London!
W. Y.
Free admission. It's actually quite large inside. Worth to have a visit!
