Lovely morning out for the little ones to see the animals and learn about them. Although some animals couldn't be seen/weren't there, there were loads to see. We saw the meerkats being fed and got ti ask questions about them, including their Lion King character names.
L. H.
Such a clean tidy zoo. Great for little ones as not too vast but lots to see aquarium too. We had a hands on animal experience with John it was very informative and a true holiday highlight.
W. W.
Had a really lovely time here. Its not an all day thing but good for a few hours. Nice picnic area with a small kids play frame. Toilets are OK. You can buy snacks and drinks only, from a small outdoor kiosk. There's no cafe. The staff are college students studying there and we found them to be an absolutely lovely bunch. The lemur talk was very good in particular and we enjoyed watching the meerkat feeding frenzi. It's not very big so you're never far away from the toilets and it's really easy to navigate as it's set out very well. There are sometimes walk- through zones open but not always so don't count on those. Plenty of car park space and the whole place was really very clean. The only thing that would have improved it for us is that it could do with a more significant children's play area and a small café or a hot street food van.
S. H.
This place is great, not huge but it is what you make of it, experiences available like meerkat feeding and a walk through the wallabies, you just need to time it right. Better for younger children but we did make more of it by visiting near by park and having a walk through the woods. Well worth the price (especially through groupon) overall worth a visit. Remember to take a picnic although food is available.
C. A.
We did the meerkat feeding experience, as well as the general visit, and it was so fun, and informative. Really nice atmosphere, and you can tell that the animals are really well cared for
C. N.
This is a lovely little place, ideal for kids and great for a few hours out with the family. We went here and loved the animals and the play park. The pirate guy entertaining the kids was a nice touch too. The only reason I'm leaving a star off was because there were no iced refreshments available, despite advertising in several places, and the day in question being 26⁰C.
We loved the place and will certainly go back in the future. My toddler decided to run around screaming like a mad boy the entire time we were there, so that detracted somewhat from my own personal experience, but this is not the fault of the venue.
M. H.
Small area with quite a lot packed in. Good day out for those who have not experienced the larger animal attractions in England. Picnic tables available. Beware Peacocks wonder around freely, friendly but can be loud!
K. H.
This is a great family zoo. Buy tickets with Groupon Vouchers and its super value as well. Take your own food but you can get coffees ,ice cream etc. The site is large enough (with both indoor and outdoor zones ) and has an amazing variety of small animals.A good choice for 2-3 hours of entertainment/education for less than £20 for a family of 5.
F. S.
My daughter had a 9th birthday party here - a zookeeper experience with 4 of her friends and they all absolutely loved it. I would highly recommend it for a day full of fun and learning all about zoo life!
A. A.
Plenty to see and do, as well as the animals there is a woodland walk along the river, tea room, various gardens, visitor centre, activity centre (part year) and picnic areas. My nearly 5 year old had a great time. Back again with my so now 9. Enjoyed himself seeing all the animals, had a picnic then dpent some gime on the large wooded climbing area con way out.
C. M.
Visited for a Christmas event and had a wonderful time. Staff very friendly, good facilities and animals well looked after.
E. D.
We had fun here with the kids although quite a few animals where not visible, either hiding or just not there, but the ones we saw are well looked after and have nice spaces. The tropical fish and frogs tanks looked amazing and it was fun trying to spot the creatures lurking inside.
Over all a really fun afternoon!
M. T.
Good day out the little one loved it. Good selection of animals and the pirate walk with fairy dust was really entertaining for the kids. Recommend you take a picnic as there is plenty of Picnic areas which are okay with plenty of seating for everyone plus play area for kids to be entertained whilst you eat your sandwich. Activity area and woods walk are good with loads for kids to see and do. There is a cafe onsite with various drinks, snacks and cakes available. The activity centre has various climbing frames etc with a good sized climbing wall and they have all the harneses and hard hats etc with qualified instructors. There is also a 120 foot zip line unfortunately we didn't get to go on as we run out of hours as the day had flown over.
A. K.
Very reasonable price for the whole family (family ticket is about £21 for 2 adults and 3 kids). A wide variety of animals, reptiles and fish and also a lorikeet feeding (£1 per person). Kids enjoyed it as they also have a small play area, you could probably spend about 3 hours here to see everything and enjoy. Staff very friendly and not too busy so you get plenty of time to see the things you want.
j. c.
£10 for 2 adults and 3 kids. Tea room was delightful cakes were lovely. Did the wallaby walkthrough was a bit rushed and only 2 wallabys which weren't very active. We also did the reptile talk and kids enjoyed the wooden play park. Was a lovely day out.
A. C.
We visited the zoo as part of the fireworks event we attended. Lovely little zoo ...animal enclosures large plenty of space for them . Wide variety of animals from Tortoises to Monkeys to Parrots to Reindeers. Was exceptionally busy so would like to visit at a less busy time. Seating areas sorted around to sit and enjoy. Lovely play area in centre of zoo for children. Pathways very good easy accessible with stroller/pushchair. Loved how the peacocks roamed around freely. Well worth a visit.
M. H.
Great for little ones including face painting and a cafe with outdoor seating. A lot of the animals hide away when the weather is poor or cold so no guarantee that there's a full array of animals on show.
J. B.
We visited here for the Northeast dog festival it was a great day out with loads of stalls selling everything "doggie" and plenty of stalls selling food. We and the dogs enjoyed trying the activities, Dog agility etc.
F. B.
Great day out, granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed the cariety of animals, birds and fish on display, will go back when its warmer
R. T.
Small place but lots to see. Very friendly, informative and helpful staff. We went to the Meerkat experience. Great fun feeding them. Obviously you can not touch or pick-up the meerkats but they climb around your feet and shoes. ☺
K. A.
What a wonderful little place staff were very engaging and the little one loved it
K. A.
Visited Kirkley Hall Zoo and although it was nice to see the animals it wasn't as impressive as some of the bigger zoo's visited in the past. Alot of smaller animals and not really alot to interact with during our time there.
M. M.
Our children had a fabulous day here at zoo club
G. J.
Great place the little man really enjoyed himself. Thinking of things to do this place ticks all the boxes, fun, educational and gets everybody out in the fresh air. Will go again.
S. C.
We bought our tickets on groupon. Family ticket for just under £12. What a steal. Weather was great, animals were fantastic, the people who work there very friendly and looked happy at work. My only issue was paying £8 for 4 walls feasts. Yes £8. Can get a box of 4 in asda for £2.50 so that's a incredible mark up. Sat with my friend and she agreed they seem to be missing a trick regarding a cafe.
R. D.
Had a brilliant day seeing the animals and reading the information that was provided about each animal there, the place was spotless and the staff made our visit all the more enjoyable, what a great team they are nothing was a bother and were happy to chat, one of the members of staff had us in tears of laughter from entering the zoo what a brilliant sport he was, I would highly recommend a visit to any family..
K. B.
Very hot day so nearly all the animals were finding shade. As a result we didn't see much at all. Staff friendly, could do with more seating areas. However we understand it is a working college.
L. D.
Had a nice afternoon with the kids. Ring-tailed lemurs are a highlight.
Toilets were a bit run down but clean.
Bought family ticket on Groupon for under £10.
T. J.
Lovely place to bring the kids and learn. Staff were all happy and helpful. Food in the cafe was tasty and well priced.
M. C.
Great place to visit. Friendly staff and quite a few animals to see. Enclosures were clean and animals seemed in good health.
W. L.
This was my first visit and I had a throughly enjoyable day and enjoyed seeing the birds and animals which are being bred for conservation purposes, which being a long time member of WWF pleased me to know that other people believed in the same way I do.
R. W.
An amazing day out for all the family with creatures of all shapes and sizes, it is such good fun. There are opportunities to experience feeding birds and a walaby walkthrough.
K. D.
Lovely day, lots of beautiful animals and creatures and woodland to explore. And a nice cafe (although seems a little small so is chocker block.) Worth a visit great for kids.
M. B.
Strange little zoo.
Friendly, sweet, cheap and fun but much smaller than others.
Peacocks were the highlight, most notably the white one. Animals looked like they were being well looked after.
Staff member who took the talks lacked people skills and was determined not to get any animals out in the meet the reptiles session. Needs a Mary Portas type to shake the place up a bit.
D. B.
Look, What a lovely day out. It only lost a 🌟 because the tea Room was slightly underwelming run by some kids, food pre pepped, etc not so cheap, but nice and cozy none the less. Plenty things to see and learn in the gardens, animals great, wouldn't pay full price got offer from metro radio website. …
M. S.
It's ok to spend an hour or so here but not much to last longer than that. Signs within the area for cafes aren't the clearest and could do with updating along the route.
S. M.
Great family day out its on a small scale but great trip out on a sunny day not much food options but we did take a picnic would reccomend to others
R. h. P.
Nice place and staff were nice animals were mint thanks for a good day out
M. M.
Great day out for the kids. Two 3 year olds thoroughly enjoyed themselves, especially the aquarium and wallaby enclosure walk-through.
B. R.
It's a great place for 1/2 a day out. Lots to see and sometimes to do also when the petting barn is open. Only issue was it felt like it was growing wild. Maybe time to trim the bushes as I was ducking all along the paths.
l. r.
We really love this place had many days spent here grandkids love it also highly recommend for all great day out for everyone 5*
T. O.
Interesting, lots of information boards so worth taking time to read about the animals and birds. More like an educational experience than a commercial zoo and the better for it. The lemurs were a highlight, jumping into the fence beside me. Amazing hands and feet. A great experience. Recommended. Just take your time.
P. W.
Nice tidy little zoo. Good healthy looking animals. Family fun day out, for all ages.
S. C.
Lovely little zoo, animal encounters are fantastic highly recommend the lorikeet feeding for the extra £1 and the orangery tearoom is great for a panini and coffee. Only negative is that the cafe is badly signposted so much so that we couldnt find it so went to the orangery tearooms instead.
K. H.
Family day there yesterday. Been many times. Interesting and informative. We got our family ticket for just £10 from neoffers which was a great bargain. We took picnic although there is a cafe there. Peacocks wandering round picnic area thoroughly entertained everyone. Play areas ok.
A. E.
Very good. A compact zoo with lots to see, lots of information and no gimmicks. Great value too. But beware, there are NO signs for the zoo by the road entrance, just a vague banner for Northumberland collage.
D. H.
Absolutely lush place to visit, will defo be back lovely staff very clean, animals well looked after
M. R.
Fantastic day out, the staff are so kind and friendly. They have an in-depth knowledge of all their animals and are happy to answer questions. All animals are clearly well looked after and happy.
D. L.
Although small its packed and well priced. Take a picnic as there isnt much in the way of food. There are several picnic tables.
P. P.
What a gem of a place to visit as a family! Friendly staff, happy and unusual animals plus a whole load of interactive and informative talks looking at the animals in more detail! x x x
M. S.
Decent place but was quite busy and most animals were difficult to see. Food was a problem as the cafe wasn’t open and they only had a few sandwiches from a small busy shack.
J. R.
The Zoological gardens are a brilliant day out for the little ones, with a good blend of animals yo see. From the young to early teens your children will have lots to see and a good deal to do too.
The enclosures are spacious enough for the animals within, yet not ramed full of plant life making it impossible to see what is within.
Some areas allow you to get hands on with a some of the soft and cute to the colourful and cheeky. The attendants walking through feeding and giving talks are friendly and draw even the elusive to the front.
The price for what you get is reasonable, however look out for discounts and special offers online to get yourself a real deal.
S. P.
Nice place and friendly staff. Lots of animals for the big and little folk to learn about. The Tea Room is nice too.
A. R.
Good place to go for the weekend only open on Saturday Sunday has cafe and animal feeding times
A. K.
We had my sons 7th birthday party here today. It was fantastic! The kids loved the discovery room where they got to hold some of the creatures, followed by a tour of the zoo & lunch in the party room. It was so reasonably priced for a kids birthday party. Hats off to Sophia who looked after us today she is a credit to your company!! She was great with the children & adults, was so passionate about the animals and her job as well as being a lovely person. Thank you!
C. w.
Lovely place to visit with little ones mine loved the animals and lunch in the cafe
A. N.
Value for money and great Animals to see. It's not a big zoo but at £20 for 2 adults and a child the price is right.
Takes about an hour n a half to go all the way round.
Staff are friendly and we had a great time.
D. M.
It's a good place to bring your kids for a little day out
P. B.
Great place for families to visit
A. W. G. S.
Nice for children but lots of empty cages or maybe animals were hiding!
t. w.
Great day out for the kids, some amazing animals to see
A. J.
Awesome family day out. Archery, climbing wall and zip line were fantastic.
G. M.
It’s a nice little zoo to take the kids.
S. a. K.
Fantastic place to go in the spring & summer time! I studied at this College. It’s very interesting to see how it’s changed over the years. I personally think it’s well priced, some of the students even work their on the weekends, either helping look after the animals or working in and around the grounds of the Campus.
M. W.
Well cared for animals, clean enclosures and friendly place
M. S.
Good variety of stalls, hot food and cakes for sale, fun fare and a zoo.Lots for the kids.A good day.
t. h.
Grandkids loved it I would say it's a good half a day out not full day but we didn't go to the assault course .
C. A.
Great little zoo with lots of varied animals
N. L.
Amazing little zoo. Great for the kids and a goo rate. Plenty to see and a picnic area full of peacocks roaming.
N. P.
Just nice place to take the grandchildren or your own. It's not a full blown zoo, but there are plenty small animals to keep kids interested fot a couple of hours.
N. B.
Kirkley hall zoological garden is very small. You can spend here about 1-1.5 hour.
C. D.
Really great little zoo with some lovely animals. Some unusual ones I hadn't seen before.
L. T.
Lovely little zoo...loads to see. Very reasonable price for a family of 4. Will be visiting again soon.
R. E.
Lovely zoo, really enjoyed our day out
A. T.
Lovely place. Small, but there is enough to do and look at.
M. a. K. J.
Beautiful creatures, wonderful place.. simply amazing ❤ highly recommended
M. K.
The zoo had smaller animals lama’s meerkat lama’s etc it was not large but well laid out it took us two hours after a tea stop. The facilities were clean and there was plenty car parking space but what a bargain 3 adults and 2 kids £30 who could complain and 5 minute by car from Newcastle airport the staff were friendly we had a great afternoon there. 👍
M. A.
The kids loved it
J. W.
Really enjoyed our visit here it's only a small zoo but has animals I've never heard of before only took around 60-90 mins to go round but has a little snacks and drinks bar so called there which added to the time aswell but overall a really great little hidden gem will definitely be back
G. C.
Some good animals nice day out for the kids
B. F. r.
I study here and i love it every morning when i arrive here i get a rush of pure serenity i dont knoe why but i do. The zoo also has lots of educational bonuses for people wanting to have a career in Animal care.
R. C.
An excellent place to visit with the children. A superb day out for us all with lots to see. The small coffee cabin is very reasonable too. Definitely recommend it.
D. M.
Great day out. Open during school holidays and weekends only. Realistically you can spend 2-3 hours at a leisurely pace. Take a packed lunch. It's a bargain price. Small outdoor play area (another near the carpark). Slightly restricted events due to covid at the minute. After the animals have a short walk around the public footpaths down by the river (not really for prams/wheelchairs) and explore the remains of the bushcraft areas. Relatively new path along woodland that is suitable for all, and the walled gardens are also a nice picnic spot. You can go back in to see the animals a second time if you mention when you leave. Staff are all helpful and friendly and knowledgeable about the animals. Shame the small assault course has fallen into disrepair. So much extra could be offered with a bit investment outside the zoo itself.
T.
Nice place. Good for kids and a picnic.
L. L.
A sprawling site with lots to see and do for kids. Very well kept with the majority of the site clean. The animals appeared well looked after and the children enjoyed it. Very reasonable tea room and cafe although we did bring our own food for a picnic. Maybe could do with a bit more signage with regards to the woodland walk and zip wire/climbing wall. All in all a very good place.
C. B.
Very interesting, make sure you catch the talks at different times of the day very informative. Small conservation zoological gardens but enough to keep your interest for almost a full day. Nice children's play area inside with picnic benches. Another play area outside animal area. Parking is free.
Well worth a visit.
J. G.
Great place for the family. Wonderful selection of birds, fish, reptiles and mammals. The free roaming peacocks are a fantastic spectacle. Staff are cheerful and enthusiastic, beckoning children and adults alike over to stoke or hold the most cuddly of the animals.
The price of admission is very reasonable and includes the gardens and a smattering of play areas around the grounds. There are extra activities available for the adventurous, or those with slightly older children. I'm yet to experience these, but they look like great fun from afar.
Snacks or lunch can be enjoyed in the cafe, which is again reasonable in price and offers a small but varied selection.
Overall an super little zoo that is pleasant and safe. With oodles on offer to keep all the family entertained.
B. B.
Absolutely brilliant morning with daughters and
grandchildren well worth a visit. Nipping clean lots of different animals enclosures well maintained. Reasonable prices aswell will go again.
S. H.
Excellent zoo for small animals. Friendly, knowledgeable and pleasant staff.
K. W.
Excellent place for a visit. Plenty of different animals to see. Helpful staff always willing to answer your questions.
a. h.
It's great, it is small, and it isn't really sign posts very well. The site has lots of other things going on, with cadets and police horses so we weren't sure if we were at the correct place. The animals you see are a bit unusual , so it's a decent afternoon for young kids. There is a tiny climbing frame for small kids which was packed , which only took 5 kids . So they should look into creating. Something bigger. All in all we had a nice afternoon .
P. S.
Friendly staff and a lovely day out for the family
S. F.
A lovely small zoological garden, ideal for young children. Lots of informative talks throughout the day. The tea room serve the best scones.Great day out. We paid to do the meerkats experience and had half an hour in their enclosure with them feeding them... something I will remember forever. Lovely small zoo with staff who obviously love their jobs
B. W.
We take our dogs for grooming
L. K.
Small and friendly, the animals all looked very well cared for. All the pens are well planned with the animals natural habitat in mind. There is adequate greenery and cover so they are able to hind away if they wish. The staff were friendly and interested in both the animals and the environment. Probably best suited to little ones around 3-7 yrs.
D. L.
It was a good place to take the children, and had a lovely snack.
A. h.
Brilliant place for the kids. Animals are all really well looked after and look really happy. There are talks throughout the day for educational purposes. The staff are all very switched on and can answer anything thrown at them.
Very well priced for a good day out.
Also serves food and has lovely gardens.
L. A.
Slightly underwhelmed! However, there was a good variety of animals, well accommodated in what seemed a compact area - so good for little legs/less mobile people. A good space for picnics, however the kiosk was closed so nowhere closeby for a drink; there are two places to eat for drinks and snacks but these are a bit of a walk from the zoo.
Not a bad place, but could do better.
c. N.
This is really a good place to have a family day out with kids under 10 years. There are various kinds of animals - land, air, water and arboreal - housed in this garden. The feeling of nature in the atmosphere is amazing. You could book for guided tour around. The peacocks are the most fascinating as they want to come around people and show off their designer feathers. They also have areas for a picnic if you have you packed food.
C. K.
Fantastic! Animals all looked really happy and their enclosures were clean. Some creatures I'd never heard of before. I would come again. Oh and the surrounding area's very pretty too! Definitely recommend!
L. D.
We loved our day out here. The animals appeared well cared for and there was plenty to look at and lots of information available. We asked a question of a senior member of staff and he spent quite a while explaining about a particular parrot.
We had a very pleasant lunch in the cafe nearby, and there are other facilities, e.g. zip wire and playground, that we didn't have time to see. We will go again to rectify that omission!
N. P.
What an absolutely brilliant little hidden gem this place is. We took out Under 11's & Under 12's rugby teams to do some outward bound and team building activities. The instructors were first class, very patient and knowledgeable. The kids got so much out of the day, we will definitely be going back. Very good value too at around £10 per child for a full day.
K. S.
Lovely place to visit with the family, animals seem very happy and well looked after. The lorikeet lookout is definitely worth a visit and the extra £1. I would recommend taking a picnic if you plan on eating here, the cafes can get very busy and the food isn't that good for the price (this is why I've given 4 stars).
V. C.
Great day out. We paid to do the meerkats experience and had half an hour in their enclosure with them feeding them... something I will remember forever. Lovely small zoo with staff who obviously love their jobs.
M. J.
This was a nice place to potter but probably better for younger children. It isn't much more than a pet's corner in reality. The play equipment is for toddlers and there isn't much more to do. The lorikeet feeding is really nice but it's only 10 minutes long.
r. s.
Such a lovely place! We received a voucher from a family member as a present and we chose to do the meerkat experience along with an afternoon tea for two. The afternoon tea was great. We had a lovely little table reserved for us in the corner and a selection of sandwiches, scones, and cakes to enjoy along with tea or coffee. Very relaxing. We then wondered around the zoo looking at the wonderful animals that they had, especially liked the peacocks that strutted around the place. Feeding the meerkats was a fantastic way to end the afternoon despite the rain at the end. Everybody was really friendly there and I have nothing negative to say. We definitely recommend and, even though we effectively got to do everything there for free due to the voucher, we think it's fully worth the money and will be going back there again with the rest of the family!
M. C.
The animals are very well looked after. There are a lot of unusual animals that you won't find in mainstream zoos. It's not massive, so you can take your time to go around, without rushing in case you miss anything.
M. R.
Good day out, well priced and a wide selection of animals
s. d.
Lots to see and do, some interactive things and watching the animals be fed.
A. F.
Excellent centre with wheelchair access and plenty of interest in the shape of animals, birds, fish and reptiles. Entry cost £4-95 for wheelchair bound person and 2 carers. Cafe and tea room on site. Cafe closes about 2 but tea room open till about 4. Free parking.
K. G.
The Zoo was fab, contained a good selection of animals. Worth paying extra £1 as you enter to feed the birds. Will be visiting again, but would take a picnic, as lots of benches provided within the zoo. The cafe was located in the orangary situated outside the zoo, food was OK but not great. I thought it was over priced too.
A. C.
A great place. Peacocks roaming around, well kept enclosures. Very family friendly and good parking with overflow. Reasonable admission prices too. Staff very happy to help. Thanks for a great trip out!
D. C.
Surprisingly really good I even went in the winter and there was still loads to see
A. L.
Fun day if you like animals parking good
A. H.
A small zoo, but we spent hours there and still don't think we saw everything. The staff were so knowledgeable and friendly. We also took advantage of the dual ticket which the kids loved breaking up the day with the zip wire and climbing wall. The animals all seemed so close and willing to interact rather than hiding away in corners. My highlight was Henrietta the blue and yellow Macaw asking for chocolate!
a. w.
Was a nice day little man loved the power ranger hero training camp, feeding the birds and seeing the wallabys.
f. f.
The gardens are of great interest and the zoo is fun. Perfect for kids. My only problem is lack of parking, and what little parking is marked as disabled is rubbish. The spaces are the same as standard spaces, (and sometimes block buy materials or staff vehicles. And all are far from the gardens. In fact only 4 spaces were found near the zoo. Still, parking aside, it's a great place to visit.
L. S.
The zoo are is quite small but there is a lot to see. Peacocks roam the grounds and are quite used to people, getting right up close and even being tolerant of children. My main concerns are how a lot of the indoor sections are very narrow, which makes it hard for most people to see things without causing a backlog and if you have a pram, as I did, some areas are best just avoided. Tl:dr, go on a quieter day for the best experience.
As a side note, while the exhibits are small, the cages are designed with the animals in mind so they can avoid humans completely if they wish, leading to many things appearing empty.
M. m.
Had a fabulous day with the boys
D. K.
A great small zoo which is bigger than it first looks and is definitely great value. A family ticket was less than a single adult ticket to some places! If they put a small cafe or snack stand and shop inside the zoo they would make some extra money I am sure! (Yes I know there is a cafe outside)
R. G.
I love the Zoo and the grounds at Kirkly Hall they are absolutely lovely and a hidden gem of the North East. The only thing that disappoints me on every visit is their Orangery Cafe, the cleanliness of the upstairs seating area is poor, choice of food isn't great and the quality is disappointing too. Otherwise I'd have given 5 stars xx
L. C.
Small but nice, well organised and was very quiet when we went.my 4 year old had fun so that is the main thing.you would do well to get more than 1 hour here as it is very small.
S. J.
Nice place to visit though some better sign posting would be much appreciated. We tried to find the bears on a walk, went left instead of right and ended up in some sense bush! Knowing that ahead of time would have saved dragging our 5 year old through thorny undergrowth. Still a lovely place to visit.
F. C.
Once again I lived here for 10 years and those ten years staff were so kind, helpful and lovely easy parking .reasonable price for a great time.great for big families. Animals like rabbits and guinea you can pet are there ,and exotic animals
. So much fun watching the armadillos rave each other. Thanks kirkley
N. B.
Knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. Tea room pretty good. Not very interactive (Stoke the bunny, feeding times published, that's about it) but interesting for adults and older children. Limited disabled facilities.
M. B.
My daughter attends zoo club, she loves it and returns every school holiday. The staff are friendly and helpful. The parking is great. Could do with better (larger) refreshment facilities though.
G. J.
Very enjoyable and my grandson thought it was great, especially the parrots
S. R.
Not too busy, not too commercialised, got to see the new lambs being born and it was fantastic. One lady talked us through information we didn't know, she didn't have to take the time out. But she did and it was much appreciated and thoughtful.
d. j.
2 adults and 3 children only £ 23.00. Good value and plenty animals to see. Nice outdoor picnic area. Great for the kids. We'll worth going.
R. H.
Very basic zoo. Feels a bit like the animals have been put into an abandoned old school. Coffee shop a bit disappointing and again basic. Could not find the cedar tree cafe to try. Shop also very basic. The staff we spoke to were lovely and obviously genuine. Good signage everywhere although a little hard to follow. Great access and facilities for wheelchair users.
H. B.
Nice day out, plenty of animals to see. Cafe wasn't over priced like alot of family type places can be. Friendly staff and a easy walk around for a 4 year old. Will visit again
A. M.
We enjoyed our visit to Kirkley Hall very much
K. L.
Great day out, the kids loved the animal zoo and were in awe at the amazing sites around the park. A fun play area near the entrance with plenty of parking. A couple of places to enjoy lunch or bring your own and sit amongst the beautiful gardens and take in the views. Amongst the animals we enjoyed the goats, meerkats and llama the best, also lively aquarium on site and another room with snakes, lizards and spiders 🐒🐺🐐🐿🐢 and plenty of beautiful birds around the park.
J. H.
Had a wonderful day at Kirkley Hall. Lots to do and see especially for children. Zip wire and climbing wall and the tree climbing experience absolutely brilliant. Lots of good freshly made food too. Really great.
R. B.
Not to bad on price (just under £20 for a family of 4)
a. w.
Nice enough place not loads of animals to see. There are rabbits, guinnea pigs etc and fish. Wanted to have some lunch there. The only place open to eat was conservatory which was far too small and packed. So didn't eat!!!! We had our 2year old with us she wasn't that interested in the place. Also I am in a wheelchair and it wasn't that wheelchair friendly. Wouldn't rush back.
I. B.
The zoo is brilliant (only open holidays and weekends 👍). Loads to see and free parking. The grounds surrounding it are fantastic, if you visit go for a wander along the marked country pathways. …
S.
Not too bad, some nice animals to see but a lot of the rarer stuff never came out e.g Bush dogs and ocelot and a lot more. Went to the reptile show with my son expecting to be able to hold them, but nope brought one chameleon out that couldn't use it's tongue one of the main parts of the chameleon. And being a reptile keeper didn't tell me anything I didn't already know.
c. b.
Great day. Out lots to see and do, staff where all very friendly and willing to help out or let you touch some of the animals. Raggy beard the pirate was great with the kids and remembered the kids names which made it even more special for the young ones.
E. T.
Absolute fabulous family afternoon/evening for the quiet fireworks! Zoo, funfair food ,fire display, bonfire disco and of course.. Fireworks!!!
Well done Kirkley!! We enjoyed every moment and every aspect and we'll all def be back next year!!
Special shout out to all the staff especially those in the parking area. We may have waited a Lil while to depart after the event but it was extremely well organised and very orderly!!!
s. W.
Great place for familys. Reasonable price. Animals seem happy
J. R.
Great place to visit this summer, a very enjoyable experience situated on the outskirts of the city. Definitely worth a look and great for kids to explore. Also a coffee shop is situated or take a picnic and enjoy the beautiful scenery.
A. “. R.
Excellent zoo with plenty to occupy the little ones. Lovely walks, climbing areas and trails offer loads to do throughout the day. Reasonably priced cafe on site too. Really great for a day out!
R. G.
We got in as a family of 4 for £10. Even without the discount it would have been good value for money! Far more to see than we expected and who knew there was such an animal as a Bush Dog?? 😁 ❤️ …
I. P.
A great place to visit. Try feeding the lorikeets, only one pound per person as of summer 2019. There is a fair selection of species to see and the enclosures and information boards are first class. Well worth a visit.
d. p.
Great zoo with lots to see and do, lots of animals to look at from snakes to Wallabies, great day out, I've been a few times with my family and there's always something interesting to look at. Will be visiting again soon. A cheap day out.
A. W.
Had Christmas dinner here today. Food was beautiful, excellent price at £18.95 per person. Staff took wonderful care of us. Hope to go back again, such a lovely experience.
L. L.
A lovely small zoological garden, ideal for young children. Lots of informative talks throughout the day. The tea room serve the best scones.
C. C.
We had an enjoyable visit there quite a few animals to see most of them behind glass and double fences as usual some animals were hiding behind their undergrowth no food or drinks available in the zoo just a half empty machine in the toilet area Although the hall has a cafe
H. W.
We had such a great day but was disappointed that we had to leave the Zoo and go along to the cafe at the hall itself to get a cuppa. There is a kiosk right next to the children's play area that apparently doesn't open at weekends?? It was really busy I would think it would have made a fortune today .
J. W.
Myself, Husband and 3 children loved our experience at Kirkley Hall Zoological garden's. The animals were amazingly lovely to see, the gardens are beautiful too. Only grumble would be the time to wait at Cafe, 30 mins queueing for a cup of coffee. Will take my own flask in future, but apart from that it was a great day.
J. B. (.
Quite small for a zoo but it's clear to see they have animal welfare at the front of their plans. Worth a visit but won't occupy your full day so best to make it a stop off enroute elsewhere.
S. C.
Small zoo really nice day out for families and pre-teen kids. Feed the lorikeets, face painting and standard meerkat and lemurs talks. There is also an activity centre on site (costs extra) with climbing wall, zip line etc. Good for older kids but there is a height restriction for this, little ones might feel left out.
E. W.
Second visit love this place .
Friendly staff who know about their animals.
K. T.
The zoo is fab. Lots to see.
we attended the lambing weekend and the ewes were clearly very anxious compared to other sheep at lambing events we attended elsewhere. But on a plus the staff had made signs and information boards which were very detailed about lambing
E. L. T.
Everything was nice and clean and very well kept but difficult to see some animals in enclosures with there being alot of coverage near the fence lines. Spent approx 2 hours here but had seen everything in that time.
S. W.
Small but excellent zoo and it so close to home. Will definitely go back, planning to try the climbing wall experience next time too, staff all very freindly and very helpful, would recommend the lorikeet feeding too
t. H.
Bairn loved it.lovely when yhe suns out
S. F.
Had heard it was a bit run down but was pleasantly suprised. Good range of animals with talks and feedings at specific times. Lots of peacocks in the car park so mind your speed.
V. D.
Great day out regardless of weather. Parks fab with lots of natural child orientated climbing areas. Large variety of animals. Only downside was the organised reptile encounter - poor organisation of a large group once in the room. We left without having any sort of reptile encounter. Feeding the birds - what an amazing experience and very well managed even with a large group of people queueing. Very relaxed and child friendly, to my knowledge no age discrimination with the youngest of visitors. Café slow service. Big queues. But a Brill day had by all.
P. B.
Visited here for a birthday party. A small selection of varied animals. The visit to see the Bushdogs is worth the entrance fee alone. A good couple of hours for a family with young ones.
K. H.
Kirkley hall is better suited to under 5's. There is not a huge range of animals. This attraction takes about half a day to see everything, play at the park and grab a bite to eat.
r. c.
Great value, kept the children entertained for hours 👍👍 …
E. N.
Great value day out, staff were brilliant and helpful, good variety of animals food was nice and really cheap, £1.60 for a sausage sandwich is cheaper than greggs, we will be back as there's more than the zoo to do, would recommend it
M. R.
Well set out. Great for pushchairs/wheelchairs. Animals easy to see. Lovely couple of hours. Can't wait for orangery to reopen.
M. H.
The dog shows were fantastic nd zoo probably is also had I not had an accident in my wheelchair paths in zoo nd in doorways of the hall are NOT disabled friendly. Having said that staff were brilliant. Steep paths sorting immediately though.!!!!!!!
J. H.
If you have younger children it's the place to have a nice day out and very importantly it's not too expensive over all helpful staff that take the time to explain to you what you can do with the animals and interact with them kids will love it
S. W.
Had a lovely day seeing all the animals, girls also enjoyed the park. Food and drink nice in the cafe though slushi expensive when you have a few grandchildren and coffee cup could be larger
J.
Went for afternoon tea with my wife, staff where great and very friendly.
T. u.
Great place . This is a collage for farming , and agriculture but also has a zoo , learning village , adventure centre and always holds fun days such as bonfire night fates and fairs .
It's a great place for children and you can book animal experiences such as feeding lorikeets , meer cats , Lima's ext really worth a visit . 👍🏽
j. l.
It was s bit meh this time, been on 4/5 occasion's, this had the least stalls/ displays.
There were children's rides, a big wheel which at £2.50pp was ok, BUT £2pp to sit on s Tea cup in a stationary position, just to have a spotty youth spin you by hand, you're having a laugh!! Otherwise much of s michness, £3 in clarty walk from the parking.
C. C.
Great venue for visiting youth groups.
S. “. A.
Pretty grounds enjoyed the festival
L. m. B.
This is a great zoo, we fed some birds, sorry I forgot the name, but they sat on my hand and ate their honey drink with there tongue, they were beautiful, my two little boys loved the park, and the parrots, when the zoo was about to close we took a walk around the beautiful gardens, and ended up by the river, it took you on a lovely walk and back to the entrance of the zoo, my only downside to this place is, it's in the middle of no where, and buses only come by twice a day one in the morning and one at night, but not in school holiday's I was told, we had to get a taxi there and back.
S. B.
Lovely place to visit and animals I haven't seen or heard of before like the bushdogs they were cute..plus £1 to feed the rainbow birds was well worth it..and the river woodland walk was lovely too we even managed to see a deer running in the river.
C. C.
Was surprised at the number and variety of animals for such a small area. Looking forward to going back in the summer for an all day visit. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff.
S. M.
I came when it first opened some years ago now and I still enjoyed it years later. Yeah its small but its interesting and my new favourite animal is a capybara! And im 47 so there. Haha.Great woodland walk, freindly staff and come on only 7 quid for a change of scenery.
l. m.
Amazing place staff were fantastic couldn't have asked for a better time will definitely be going back
S. V.
Good day out. Zoo really coming on now and is worth a visit. Animals look well kept. Do zip wire in mornings when it's quieter otherwise long wait.
R. S.
Great place for kids, wide range of animals and a nice play area. Good value also. Had a really enjoyable time.
B. D.
Really interesting zoological gardens. It's not a huge place but there are some rare species like the capybara. The staff are also friendly, knowledgeable and happy to talk about the different species.
G. W.
Absolutely fantastic my grandchildren really enjoyed it, wold definatly come back
P. N.
A fantastic experience and helpful staff. The Lorikeet feeding was an amazing experience at such a reasonable price and the Zoo should look to do more of this type of activity.
J. R.
They do a cracking bonfire night event. One of the few places who still put on the fire. Book early though. The zoo is a good day out for young kids, especially the wallaby walk
C. B.
Lemur experience was great!
K. 6.
Great little zoo. Ideal to visit for a few hours or all day. Picnic area and play park for kids make it a reasonably priced day out.
H. G.
Great visit all of the animals look well cared for and healthy . Would recommend this place to visitors from home and abroad to go here and get a hands on experience with Reptiles and other exotic creatures good for both children and adults alike !!!
J. F.
Nice little zoo and a lively wooded walk
J. C.
Kirkley Hall is a great place for events and just general fun with the main building being well maintained and looked after. Then you have the activity centre attached on to that who has some phenomenonal staff and is a great place to get that outdoor experience with some rock climbing and an amazing zip line through the woods.
M. B.
Loved our family trip there only spoiled by the weather plus a few of enclosures could use thinning out as people were struggling to see animals and birds still well worth a visit
C. B.
Great day with the kids lots for them to see and do
d. g.
Great value for money. Well worth the visit. Large variety of animals, friendly staff, easy parking, well set out.
K. H.
I've just been here to do a bit of filming with them and had a blast. Wonderfully friendly and knowledgeable staff who obviously care deeply for their animals.
M. C.
2adults , a 3yr, 6yr and 8yr old, used voucher for £10 entry. Only spent a couple of hours here and part of that was a picnic and within play area. Children got a bit bored. Glad had voucher.
s. h.
Fabulous place to take the kids.
N. H.
Beautiful wedding venue, around 20mins from Newcastle Airport
C. C.
we took a under 12 s girls football team today for some team building activities and i have to say every single one of them loved it the 2 instructors where brilliant we will most defiantly be back if you have not been you need to go
K. M.
It's not huge and it's a little tatty but still a fun place for a family afternoon out. You couldn't spend a full day here and best to bring a picnic.
J. B.
Great little zoo just outside of the city. A good and interesting selection of species and all are looked after by very caring and knowledgeable staff. Free parking and a nice cafe on the site.
K. B.
Doing introduction to bee keepers in the evening and Saturday afternoons to start soon in fact this Saturday between 1200-1400hrs. The facilities in the evening are basic and the college is closed so no access to the library or anything else, own transport is a must as public transport is in possible.
D. E.
Awesome day for all the family
j. l.
Great family day out lots of different animals friendly and welcoming staff with fab knowledge of the animals and cheap admissions too ... Will definetly be back soon x
M. T.
Had a great day only a few let downs reptile talk you couldn't touch the animals and no gift shop yet.ccould do with some shade in the picnic area.

Very clean and well run. Make sure to also explore the grounds and riverside walk. My children loved it.

Lots of animals missing cause of the cold. Got to walk through the wallabies and pet a rabbit, but felt some enclosures were just too small for the animals.
K. P.
Great place to see some amazing animals I went with friend and the kids and had a fabulous time x

Wasn’t impressed. A bit dirty and grubby. The viewing areas of some enclosure were overgrown and hard to see the animals. Poorly laid out.
