Milestone 37 is the exact location that all the professional photographers flock to to get their perfect picture of Hadrian’s Wall meandering over the hills.

Great history - taking the free walking tour. The staff are so knowledgeable and pointed out everything, plus showed us where we could walk on the Wall itself. Fabulous!

The wall itself is meh, but the history regarding the wall, and how long it is both ways.
I reccomend an excursion and having a good guide with you.

Was shutting when I got there around 5pm, but looked huge if you like the idea of understanding how Roman soldiers lived.

This is a historical landmark that is a nice day tour away from Edinburgh and will take you to the Borderlands.

It's a beautiful place

Google maps seems to think the location is about 100 yds away from the car park - it isn't! Number plate recognition parking - pay on exit. Toilets. National Trust & English Heritage members enter for free but all pay to park (£3 / 3 hours + £2 / hour thereafter). Museum, ruins of Roman fort / village on hillside / hilltop about 300m from car park. Short walk along the top of Hadrian's wall. More extensive walks on footpaths by the wall and surrounding areas. Stunning views. Well worth a visit.

Nice to see the remains of a Roman arch at the Fort's gate. It is also interesting as you can see the the gate would be very difficult to use because of the terrain. However, when the Romans said they would build a fort every Roman mile along the wall then that is exactly what they did!

Just a little bit west of Housesteads, the ruins of one of the Milecastles which would have housed 30 Centurians

(Translated) Probably the best stretch of the entire Vallo. Continuing after the remains of the Housestead fort, perhaps with the good fortune (in this case just luck) of having a bit of mist to make the horizon darker, is an incredibly evocative experience. The surrounding landscape combined with the feeling of being on the edge of the Empire give a feeling of unique solemnity to the ruins. At moments you look north, in the fog, over the precipice of the hill, and you feel the expectation that the Roman lookouts probably felt fearing the arrival of the barbarians. Spectacular ~

Spettacolare~
