Reviews of The Rising Sun Countryside Centre
D.
Great place for exploring the lake, wildlife, dog walking as well as adventure playground and cafe. They do kids birthday parties too! And toilets to boot.
A. P.
Great place for families. Falconry on site. Displays usually around 10:00 but can see all birds of prey until 12:00. Bakery sells lots of different varieties of bread and cakes.
J. E.
Great place to walk with kids and dogs. Forests, hills, ponds and a park
j. d.
Beautiful place great for all ages easy walks pathways view points over the lake
J. G.
Large wooded area with ponds. Walks of varying lengths or you can wander on other paths. Facilities and lovely cafe near the car park. Great place for long or short walks. Activities are available at the centre. Good views when in the picnic area.
B. G.
Very nice place to have a walk. Nice to see the stag too!
Z. S.
Nice place for a walk and enjoy the nature, cycling or walking your dog.
The only spoiler, people who don't pick up their dog's poo. Or worse they pick it up and throws the plastic bags on the trees even though bins are provided. Same applies to litter, I think it's lack of education these days!
R. U.
Nice accessible walks/trails to explore, varied habitat, woods, ponds and meadows, loads of birds and other wildlife to see. Plenty of free parking, kids play area, cafe and clean toilets, well worth a visit.
1.
A lovely escape into the countryside and the mining past of this lovely part of Newcastle. Make sure you visit the farm and sample the artisan gourmet treats and bread in the shop. Make sure you take a large bag for the assorted chutneys on sale.
J. f. W.
Lovely outdoor spaces and a cosy cafe to keep warm in too. Delicious food and drinks. Lovely park, scenery for miles and plenty of adventurous walks to take.
M. P.
Ideal if you want a walk with young ones or children in pushchairs, quite flat and enclosed by hedging, easy to keep an eye on them, great for dog walkers.
H. T.
First time here, and it is a lovely place to relax and enjoy the nature and countryside. Quiet and peaceful, great for walking dogs and taking the kids on a walk too! :)
J. B.
Rising sun is everything you want out from a walk, run or bike ride. I take my dogs and we park at the car park which has plenty of spaces. There is a new layout in how you get in and out from the park. It's wheelchair friendly too. One thing you have to think about is horses. If you have a reactive dog, please pay attention. There aren't enough signs to remind you. Horse riding is very busy at the weekends. When the sun sets on top of the hill it's magic. Please visit!
k. c.
Love walking around the rising sun country park watching taking photos as i walk with my grand children. The is even a sign of a unicorn. My granddaughter loves it.
N. G. (.
Lot's of space for going for a walk, decent footpaths but not many facilities. You can park your car in the ASDA carpark but it may be time limited.
L. C. (.
Gorgeous spot on a glorious day. The cafe is open for takeaway and the toilets are clean, with all necessary facilities. Adequate seating available outside.
I. D.

Also there is a good little Coffee Shop nice food and bakery goods
P. P.
We visit for hartbeeps but the centre seems great as an all rounder. Cafe and outside play area for kids. Not sure how good food is.
J. K.
First time here last Thursday with my fiancé, we looked it up and decided to go here for a walk and it was absolutely lovely, great walks around the river, pond and plenty animals to see aswell. There's 3 different routes we did the blue route and loved it, we will definitely be back so we can go to the bird hide 🐦 free parking aswell bonus and there's playground for kids and a cafe too, I'd definitely recommend it
L. C. (.
Good access and clearly signed paths make for an easy walk with lots of information boards to enlighten and educate. There is ample parking and a cafe and play area. Staff in the cafe were pleasant and the food was good and reasonably priced, but the arrangements are a bit odd. There is a microwave to heat up your own scones ( not sure what else). Seating was limited because staff were mopping the floor (even when it got busy).
S. A. L.
Really easy to get to and plenty of free parking.
Walks are graded and include some for disabled visitors. There's a map at the start and clear signage as well.
Theres a small play park for children and cafe that serves a nice range of food and drinks and the staff were friendly and helpful.
You can also buy food for the birds there!

The Rising sun countryside park. Is an excellent day out. There are animal's to look at and feed. It is an excellent walk around the countryside with lot's of good views if your tempted to walk to the top of the hill which has a brilliant view looking back towards Newcastle. South shields. Hebburn. You can even see as far as penshaw monument. Within the grounds they also have pollie tunnels where they grow vegetables which gets sold to the public.
They do a lot of work with people who have learning difficulties working with them on and around the park.
They also rely on the public doing voluntary work around the farm and the upkeep of the grounds around the park and farm.
Also in the park they have a falconary with a wide variety of birds of pray.
The owner who's name is Derek is very professional he knew every thing there was to know about these wild bird's of pray.
He took us through a very well structured routine his knowledge was astounding.
You can also hold these beautiful birds.
Please visit this place for yourselves and enjoy your day.
N. P.
I love this place for the following reasons: 1. It's free to access 2. There is a farm which you can also access for free 3. Wide open spaces for the kids to run around 4. A park for the kids to play in 5. Free parking 6. A cafe for the adults 7. Clean toilets 8. A picnic area 9. A falconry 10. Good times h to be had by people of all ages. So get down here and have some good times.
K. H.
Love walking here, so many different walks to do every visit.
I. H.
Great place to let the kids run around. Climbing frames aren't really suitable for kids under 5 though. There is a cafe selling snacks and drinks and walking routes also.
K.
Great place. See all sorts of wildlife such as the deer, sparrow Hawks, kestrel, and a lot of wetland birds such as tufted ducks, potchards and gadwall. The farm is brilliant to visit as well with their frequent events, falconry and little farm shop/ stand. They have a small pets corner style area as well as areas with large pigs, sheep and donkeys. Not forgetting the chickens and geese. A visitor center is also on the other side of the country park providing good food and a play area for kids. There are many woodland walks and ponds to make for a great adventure
A. A.

s. y.
Really nice park to walk dogs got a fish pond. Plenty of bushes to hide behind for a surprise
A. T.
A really nice walk just behind a huge Asda. The little cafes and food areas have hearty staff and good products. I think it's a shame a lot of the walk is hemmed in with hedges so you don't get a good sprawling view
C. D.
Local area for kids to see loads if animals
Goats, donkeys as chickens and ducks and food prices aren't bad
C. R.
Beautiful country park. Access to parking, public toilets and a small farm shop for food and drinks. Also near to Asda!
B.
Great place to take the children. Staff are friendly and cafe is pleasant.
S. F.
Very busy due to everybody being out and about due to current restrictions but still a great place to visit. Lovely to get a takeaway cuppa from the cafe too.
R. L.
Great place to visit - Peaceful and loads to see as you walk through

All year round with the changing seasons, I love it here. It's perfect for families, singles and couples alike to walk, run or exercise dogs. Fresh air and exercise aplenty, coffee shop, picnic benches, climbing frame/slides and free parking.
T. J.
A fantastic park for the family to visit. A fine mix of wilderness and domesticated livestock.

P. C.
Nice for stroll but could do with an outdoor gym and maybe a few more flowers
F. A.
Very nice walks around this place and an amazing bakery at the farm which makes extremely tasty food.
The play area is good for kids too.
Just wish people will keep their dogs on a lead as when you are walking around with children or a nervous dog, it is not helpful when dogs are always running up to them and not under control by their owners
L. J.
Just love walking to Rising Sun Country Park. Beautiful place, I love watching the swans, geese, Gosling's the stag etc.
E. L.
Fabulous place would recommend, lots to do and not overly priced

P.
Excellent as always. Friendly staff, beautiful home made cheese or fruit scones etc. Accessible to all, toilets cleaned well. Lovely walks with information as to they're length etc. The farm cafe is excellent too, as is the Artisan bakery. We'll worth a visit, as a family or just for a stroll in the country - without hours of driving to get there. We are lucky to be living in the North East
D. R.
Went there a couple of times and found it very refreshing.
S. H.

R. R.
Great place, bakery is awesome 👍🏻
A. H.
Great walks, it's a shame the new housing is spoiling some views but still good walks. I also like that the map has average times taken to walk the different routes. Ideal if your not sure which route to take.
N. D.

Great walks for the dog, met plenty horses, a raindeer, loads of squirrels and all dead trees been removed unlike a lot of walks in the North East. Try keep your dog out of the bogs coz the are stagnant and stick, Zara had to have a bathe wen we got home lol 😂👍

The Rising Sun is a wonderful place to spend time at . Have a bite to eat and relax for a few hours or make a day of it and follow the nature trails or have a picnic and watch the wildlife 😺 fantastic .
J. C.
Always an excellent place to visit. For all ages, nice country walks because this is exactly how it feels and as the cafe best Quiche, Scones and other snacks true value for your money and staff always very helpful.
J. L.
Such a great park! There are several colour-coded walks which are clearly posted and meander through pine forest, nature fields and water features - there is literally something for everyone. Parking is difficult during busy times (weekends) - but trails are largely accessible as far as I can see, so pushchairs and wheelchairs are ok for a lot of the trails.
D. J.
Some great safe routes to walk dogs. Lots of different length routes to choose from 👍
C. R.
Love it here. A great place to walk your dogs, take your kids (there's also a playground) or just yourself. Plenty of options for walking depending on your ability and it's signposted. Or just have a leisurely stroll and enjoy your time. Plenty of areas for picnics too.
C. T.
Nice park, not much to do but walk was brilliant
J. C.
Great walk in the woods with our grandaughter. We never got to the lake as she wanted to be the guide! Lots to do to keep the lids occupied in the open air. When the visitor centre is open again it'll be good to grab some refreshments but in the meantime lots of places to rest up for a picnic.
J. M.
Lovely place to visit. Nice walks signposted around the park. Two lakes with various water birds. Great cafe to grab a cuppa and food while you enjoy the views.
B. U.
Just off the A19 this open park is a gem. Rising Sun Park is wonderful for wildlife. The site used to be a coal mine but since it's closure has been combined with an isolation hospital converted into a day centre and pleasant cafe with toilets. Lots of information boards and signed foot and bridle paths. Picnic spots beside small ponds. Easy parking makes it a joy for families and couples of all ages. Worth a visit!
R. B.
Better than some soft play areas more choice and bigger, took the grandkids
They enjoyed themselves a lot this time , and we could relax a bit as they made a friend to play with.
M. M.
We went to the farm. The walk was lovely, pushing a wheelchair was not a problem. The farm itself is a decent size and easy to access, we also went to the bird of prey centre which was well laid out and accessible.
i. K.
Great for walking, jogging and getting plenty of oxygen in a nice nature park which can be called located in city. It is very relaxing to walk around.
During rainy days some foot paths are a bit muddy. Better not to wear any fancy trainers. Unfortunately no public toilets due to covid because grounds are closed. Hope they will operate soon.
a. m.
Its a little oasis , a great place to walk carefree and safely. Beautifully looked after and great meeting place for all, a gorgeous cafe with great food cooked on the day fresh, no shortage of seating in our out with lovely views. Great day out especially for children loads of activities if wanted. Warm and friendly please all come and support our little jewel in our area.
S. g.
Lo very and peaceful, walks forall capabilities, wheelchair friendly.
C. B.
Wonderful walks and brilliant cafe.
K. G.
I come here daily. Its perfect for dog walks.
D. B.
Great to visit again, used to live around the doors as a kid. Brought my own two for a walk out and had forgotten just how lovely it was. The girls loved seeing the animals in the mini farm and playing in the park
G. W.
Beautiful walks, amazing scenery whatever the weather and a perfect place to get some fresh air, walk the dog, go for a cycle or just stretch your legs. Some of the terrain can be a challenge for pushchairs or wheelchairs particularly if it's been raining. I'd recommend a decent set of walking boots, wellies and to wrap up warm in the winter, as parts of the trail are quite exposed. Within the park there's facilities, toilets and the amazing Tim lamb centre, but to use this facility you need to be a member so maybe contact them in advance for more details. Parking is generally ok but there's a large Asda car park next door if it's too busy. Dead easy to find on sat nav or by following road signs, about 10 mins from the Tyne tunnel if you're traveling from the south.
V. C.
Lovely space to watch wildlife, explor the woods and enjoy some fresh air. Lots of walks for different abilities and well maintained paths. Been visiting for years and always see something new.
E. S. m.
Great walks in such a peaceful place. Always something new to see and walks for everyone from kids to the hardiest of walker
P. R.
Lovely country park with a bit of everything, usually a cafe (not at the moment though) brilliant soft tracks to run/walk on and a single loop almost flat parkrun route. Also a hill to exercise on but I haven't been up there. Brilliant place for dogs
L. H.
Really pretty park. The car park closes at 7pm but you can park along the lane.
J. O.
Lovely scenic walks which can be as long or short as you like. Great little playground but not suitable for (I'd say) under 3's. Cafe is small, not open very often and a bit overpriced but the food is nice.
U. F.
Nice country park , car parking area is well maintained. Nice cafe at the start and in the farm . Child Buggy friendly trails present , quite good for a family outing .
A. M.

L. Q.
Very nice place to visit lots of well signed walks. Wheelchair accessible on main walk around lake
S. M.
Lovely place for walks, favourite of dog walkers and birdwatchers. If you climb the hill on a clear day you can see Penshaw Monument
S. D.
Was a bit disappointed with this place, not alot to do.
Y. S.
Lots of trails to follow, but should have more signed to keep dogs on lead, for the wild life
C.
Gorgeous place, full of many different waymarked walking routes. Can easily spend hours wandering around the nature park, with a cafe, farm and play area to visit too.
a.

g. w. E.
Good parking and one way entry and exit for vehicles wide range of wildlife, local farm has produce to buy and a bespoke bakery on site has a lovely range of breads and pastries
Z.
Lovely area for long or short walks, depending on your preference. There's a farm of sorts to visit but the jewel in the Crown is the owl sanctuary at the back of the farm. If you go please go and show these guys some support with a donation.
Nice Park area for kids and picnic area for warmer days.
Really nice place to visit in any weather....even the rain if you have the right kit!
L. M.
Excellent don't know how they do it as it doesn't cost a penny
A. P.
Good place. The walls in this area and park are lovely and some good play spaces for the children. Cafe well used and appreciated. Enjoyed the visit. Covid safe too!
B. T.
Lovely outdoor area, great for family walks. Parking is minimal, so best to car share.
p. k.
Excellent place if you like open spaces. Cycling, walking, nature watches etc. The Falconry is Great, owner Derek and his band of volunteers do a fantastic job.
L.
Lovely relaxing place for walking. Beautifully placed with lots to explore. Nice and quiet if you want some alone time but not too deserted which is nice ....
J. E.
Lovely walks for dogs and families
S. K.
Beautiful park and excellent facilities for disabled children
A. F.
Nice easy walking around country park. Centre has cafe and facilities for able and disabled visitors. Free car parking. Special needs centre is open most days from about 11 till 4. Membership available and not expensive. Dedicated play area for those with special needs. Well worth a visit by anyone.
E. D.
Lovely place to escape especially on a sunny day for a great picnic spot. Great park and walks available. Cafe available however not easy to use with a buggy and struggles when busy but good choice of food available. Parking close by and accessible too.
L. P.
It's like a little piece of the countryside left amongst all the traffic and buildings. Most of the people who work here are volunteering their time and experience to help others enjoy the same. It's a little bumpy for the wheelchair but its still worth it. We were a bit late for the but they still let us have a look and explained everything to us. We will definitely be going back and making sure we go a lot earlier. 🦉🦅
G. C.
Lovely place for a walk and nice cafe for cuppa
C. E.
I have been coming here for a few years now. As a group with school on a few occasions. Sessions are very well run, with friendly staff and they are very informative. Visiting with friends and family and enjoying each visit. Lovely little café on site. Staff are very helpful too. Would definitely recommend.
n. 1.
Beautiful place, the birds trees and water always bring a smile. I love it. There is dirt but that's all part of the experience of the outdoors. Fantastic place to walk the dog or take young children to learn. Also, this place is very good for big spaced games (e.g scouts etc.) Overall, this is an amazing place that every one should experience their selves.
L. W.
Beautiful nature park with lots of fun places. Went with my children ages 11 and 2 and they both had a lovely time! Just ashame about the piles of rubbish off idiots camping 🤷♀️
V. D.
Restaurant is great. Lovely food and supports workers with additional needs. Great play area for kids. Farm is a bit of a walk and not a huge range of animals but friendly and free.
A. C.
Beautiful place to visit. Great for days out and dog friendly. Variety of treks to take. You can pass the farm and see the animals. (Mainly horses). There is a cafe which has a decent selection of refreshments. Outside, There is a fort for the children to play on. Plus much more.
A. H.
Love going there for walks with the dog if you enjoy walking you'll enjoy going here
S. H.
A beautiful country park in the middle of a urban area. The walks are fantastic and if you are lucky you might catch sight of a deer or two. There is a visitor centre comprising of a cafe, conference room and Public Toilets with disabled access. There are also buildings which are used for education projects between local schools and clubs. Its a safe area for Dog walking, cycling and walking and there are colour coded signs which tell you the shortest walks or the longest. If you enjoy Bird Watching there is a great hide that looks out onto a large pond and the chance to observe the many birds that live there. All in all it makes for a good trip out and i recommend the homemade cheese scones from the cafe. Beautiful
m. t.
It's a nice place to go for a walk. There are places to get food and beverages. There was also a birds of prey. Where I was able to hold an owl for only two pounds.
N. C.
The centre can be accessed by car with ample car parking. Pedestrians have access on separate footpaths.
The centre has meeting rooms that can be hired
Easy guided walks are available using the numerous footpaths in the park. There are cycling groups and Nordic walking.
There is also a friend's of the park group for those who would like to be more involved.
The restaurant serves breakfasts and later lunches as well as snacks such as scones.
There is easy access for the disabled and ample seating outside for sunny days.
p. w.
Ideal for a walk, great for the kids to run around, nice open space.
J. M.
Lovely child friendly place that has a cafe with outdoor terrace and views over the park and lake. There are also toilet facilities, function rooms, an outdoor play area and a water play feature. Entrance to the park is free and there is free parking, the countryside centre (and a lot of the park) is wheelchair and pram accessable. The park itself is huge and you can explore for hours so great for families, or you can just sit at the café and enjoy the views.
N. D.
A great place for a family day out. Good, simple walks and a pleasant play park. For the more adventurous the hill offers excitement on bike or on foot.
The farm is worth a visit too, especially if the birds of prey centre is open.
K. C.
Such a good little local farm. The staff are friendly, the animals roam freely and love to be fussed over and the bakery is amazing. It's a hidden gem and would definetly recommend spending a few hours.
L. F.
A very nice nature park... Lots of walk ways.. Huge pond with bird outlook onto the pond.. A great family day out.. Take a picnic... 😊
P. C.
Lovely place. Completely opposite to the other side of the park. Nice animals and a proper local farm shop type feel
C. B.
Such a big park and many things to do like : you can walk your dogs, have a run, you can see the farm where they have different animals and a farm shop and a bakery, a few ponds, lots of birds around and you can take your kids to a play area where you can eat ( the food it's very good, they do it fresh). I usually take the kids with their bikes or just for a walk.
I. C.
Lovely dog walking area and the cafe is nice as well.
J. A.
This pleasant country park. It used to be a colliery but now had a large pond/small lake with wild birds. Lots of paths through woodland (not many big old trees) . Quite flat for the most but also good for cycling one big hill great to come down on the bike. The cafe and play area are also good. Lots of information signs about the area and it's history
R. H.
had a lovely walk for over a hour seeing the ponds and wild life then horses in the fields and a great visitor centre geared up for families and the history if the no ing community.
N. M.
Enjoyed the rising sun over the years as the kids love the park and the horses that sometimes are in the field adjacent to the car park and most of all the lovely walk around the lake ducking into the hides to watch the birds and you would think your miles away and just proper quality time away from the hustle and bustle.!
P. G.
It's a fair walk to the farm maybe 2-3 mile but it's worth it
S. G.
Great place for a walk. X pit area made into a country park. Large lake .play area for the kids and a visitor centre. Child friendly.
S. E.
Great place to go for a walk, lots of different routes depending on how far you want to go and great for kids to see horses duck pond and other wildlife
a. m.
Local beauty spot that we all shoukd visit
S. P.
Can get lost for hours here, great paths and easy steps
C. D.
The piglets were having a great time running around the yard, the kids were very sleepy. The geese were guarding the smaller lambs while the alpacas just watched.
If it's been wet wear your boots
J. L.
A great place for some fresh air, exercise kids or dogs. Good views, loads of paths, open prairies, woodland areas, ponds. Boots or wellies recommended unless it's summer.
D. G.
All round fabulous 👏 lovely staff ❤️ amazing sensory room lots also outside xx
P.
First time there and found it good for children and their parents. Good cafe with various menus. If you like walks then you'll enjoy this place , there are 4 different walks from half an hour upto 2/3 hours
K. M.
Great park and water park for kids
L. M.
Small children playing area, some nice walks and wild life to see
A.
I'm lucky enough to live minutes away. Once again, it is breathtakingly beautiful this morning. Chris, Graham and anyone else who helps maintain this vision of loveliness deserves all credit and a big "thank you"!
J. V.
Well maintained with ample parking for what we needed. Nice relaxing area for a nice walk without the need to head too far out of town.
A. B.
Great place. I knew the park was there but didn't know about the farm. Birds of pray, alpaca 's the lot and a lovely bakery and farm shop. Well worth a visit.
r. h. (.
Great for ..walking .. dogs ..bike's.. horse riding and .. families.. nice coffee but cafe closed at the moment plenty of parking much better with the new one way system in place
P. C.
Great time and a family fun place 😊
J. B.
Lovely autumn walk tonight
D. T.
Beautiful country park, lakes, woods, hill what more could you want. Popular with dog owners, bike riders, families and runners. Cafe serving nice food and lovely cup of tea with seating outside looking across the lake and towards the south.
P. R.
It's a beautiful and peaceful country park to walk and enjoy a bit of peace and quiet if the kids are at school or their grandparents, but it's also a great place to let your kids go wild and ride their bikes with the visitor centre also providing a play area and various organised activities which can be booked into through their website and through reception.
S. F.
Walked at the Rising Sun Countryside Centre early in January 2022 and enjoyed the stroll. High winds of winter storms late in 2021 uprooted several trees.
A.
Lovely walk and has a farm!
K. T.
Beautiful open countryside well maintained by the Local council staff, nice walks via woodland and lakeside views, just park local or park at the Benton Asda and walk into the nature park.
A. F. Q. A.
Anyone that likes long walks and nature deffo worth the walk and lovely horse on fields if your lucky you'll get to pet one as they come right up to you.
R. M.
Great open space and wildlife reserve but could offer much more! A suitable play area for young children would be nice and the Countryside Centre Cafe is too expensive for those on low incomes. Also the farm could be more functional, falconry is closed more than it's open, and there's sometimes nobody to turn to in case of accidents, (a cat got into the rabbit pen and killed a baby rabbit when I was there with my two year old grandson and I had to carry it to the farmhouse and hammer on the door). There's a sign indicating a farm shop but there isn't one and the park in general could be kept much cleaner. Shame because it has sooo much potential!
E. R.
Great place to visit to see the farm animals and birds of prey. Worth a visit to the Earth and Fire bakery. Their home made products are some of the best I have ever tasted.
V. G.
Great place to walk your dog or just take in some fresh air
Q. V.
Lovely place for a stroll with my dogs and kids. Great variety of paths and lots to see along the way.
The play park and cafe are also very well received afterwards.
G. M.
Great for a cheap day out with kids. Farm and cafe a big hit.
d. a.
It's a few years since I was there but really impress with layout trees that have grown the farm plenty of places to sit and of plenty of pathways to walk x
D. T.
Good and well laid out with cafe and staff very pleasant. Just remember can get busy currently with all the hot weather we are having.
A. H.
Lovely place but don't go into Tim Lamb. Staff are lovely but manageress is rude and obnoxious
C. B. (. m.
This is such a lovely plsce to walk, take in the wildlife, run, cycle or picnik. Lots of paths off the main run. Lots of dog walkers too. Happy people having their own kinda fun
R. K.
Three good walks for families and dogs, walks are well signposted and the paths are well kept. There's a cafe on site with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
J. G.
The walks are ok, bit boring if i'm being honest and the centre is fine. The park is only really suitable for older children and can get quite aggressive. I removed my children because I felt it was getting very dangerous but thats obviously not down to the park itself.
I. G.
Very relaxing when you go for a walk or a run.
C. G.
I come here most weekends with the dogs and am continually finding new routes, fields and paths to extend our days out. It's very well signposted so you can find your way about, the car parking is free (closes at 5pm) and there's a semi-tame red deer who lives with the livestock in the field by the car park. There's lots of wildlife to be seen, bird hides and several environments such as open fields, woodland, marsh, ponds, bridleways etc. My only criticism is that there should be more dog bins around.
B. H.
A really easy place to go for a walk. A choice of routes and distance. A good cafe for hot and cold meals. Alternatively just sit on the patio with a mug of coffee and enjoy the peace and quiet whilst gazing out at a lovely view.
j. m.
Nice to go for a walk with the kids see the animals haven't visited the café yet but I will in future people say it nice.
A. T.
Beautiful location with a wide variety of long walks around the park. Perfect for a sunny day.
D. B.
Wonderful sunny day with granddaughter walking by lake in woods and generally enjoying it all
w. g.
Fantastic place to visit. Refreshing walks, visit farm animals and birds of prey. Picnic area and small cafeteria. Visitor centre next door to the cafe. My family have spent many a happy time here and made lots of memories. Well worth a visit.
C. H.
Went here with hubby and kids and had a lovely time the play area is a bit too big for young kids and due to all the rain it was a bit slippy but had a lovely day xx
M. G.
Great to pop in and see the animals, good selection of food too.
N. B.
Lovely picturesque country park which is a nice change of pace from the surrounding urban area. The Countryside Centre has a small but pleasant and cosy cafe with a grassy area outside which is perfect on sunny days. The rest of the park has miles of tracks to walk along, a small lake and of course the Rising Sun Hill which gives a great view of the surrounding area.
J. W.
This lovely centre situated in Wallsend country park has a excellent cafe'
and classrooms to hire. Childrens area and playground, education rooms to teach them about the wildlife in the park. Plenty of parking spaces. allow plenty of time to explore the the park and lake, well marked paths to follow for all abilities. Well worth a visit.
a. C.
Friendly atmosphere and not to far out of the way it's a good place to go especially if u have younger kids
S. G.
Good paths (although they get a bit muddy in winter), plenty of way markers. There are wooded areas, ponds, and a couple of large hilly fields for dog walkers with plenty of space for them to run
D. B.
Facilities for children's parties are good ,especially the Objects Room. The staff keep the children fully engaged with the wide range bits and pieces for both construction and demolition projects catering for the needs of wide age range.
Worth a visit
S. F.
The Rising Sun country park is a lovely place for a brisk half hour walk. With the dog to a full day with the family . it is out door orientated with bird watching facility's, a program of activity's places to explore and pick nick. As well as a lovely cafe that serves a good selection of light males. Sandwich's cakes and cookie's mostly made in sight. Check out their web site to. See what us going on.
J. J.
Great place for walks lots of directions to go so can easily spend the day. Lots of picnic benches. Couldn’t get grandkids to move from the donkeys and llamas.
S. B.
Sheep, goats, donkeys, hens, llamas and birds of prey. Lots to talk about and plenty of open space. Enjoyed the visit with grandson.
J. A.
A great place to exercise, breath fresh air , take your pets , see and hear all sorts of wild animals ! Also the peace & Quiet , away from your normaly busy life . HEY ! DON'T TAKE MY WORD ! GO & ENJOY ?
G. E.
This place is gorgeous, you can walk for hours, never once on the same path, and still have areas undiscovered. You can see all kinds of wild animals and plants, sponge even rare. Recommended for everyone.
A. K.
Nicely looked after. Cafe open selling basics. Loos open. Farm open. We had a lovely day. It got quite busy!
A. T.
Lots of great walks and fabulous views down to the Tyne. Café overlooking lake. Parking at the centre or at ASDA nearby. Good for families and dogs. Easily accessible from wagon ways from neighbouring housing estates. A hidden gem.
L. P.
Fantastic place for kids, so much space, things to do can make a whole day of it. And it's free
If you want to hold a bird of prey you have to donate £2 that's it soooo good
R. R.
It is lovely for walk and good for riding bikes with younger kids that can't do ramps and hard trails and food for picnics it is often pretty quiet and there is plenty of wildlife
M. L.
Interesting setting accessible from ASDA store car park and site car park. In need of some TLC as parts look run down. Not many seats. Good for dogs. Take some food for the ducks, swans and other birds.
D. “. T.
Lovely pleasant walk as always, fed the ducks, had a picnic and watched the horses go by - a recommended free trip out if you've got young ones, or a four legged friend to walk
Z. B.
Very popular place for walking (with dogs or kids :-) ). It has a nice kids wooden play park. Usually we go there to feed horses as an excuse to drag the kids away from the tv. Also there is a nice council run cafe.
D. L.
Plenty of space for a good walk.. Some great local history there too for eager children wanting to learn
k. b.
Lovely little cafe. Brilliant site for a walk and some bird watching.
K. A.
Nice park, the paths are stoney so a bit hard to push a pram on, they are very long paths so put good shoes on and take a drink as the cafe is at the start and nowhere else to buy a drink! Also didn't manage to have a meal in the cafe as they stopped serving hot food at half past 2 in the afternoon! Strange time to stop if you ask me so that was very disappointing having walked for miles we were hungry!! Only had a choice of a small piece of flapjack or a cream bun. Not even a sandwich!! The farm shop didn't have any eggs either. Will give it another try as the kids seemed to like it and seeing/feeding the animals.
C. F.
Well worth a visit. Quite interesting but the coffee shop needs to stay open a little longer. Easy access and the paths are good. Would be better in the summer.
A. D.
Great play ground for the kids, had a good time there
C. D.
Absolutely love this place and so do my kids, loads to do for kids. Raising sun farm is great homemade food is gorgeous
M. C.
Love this place! Great for kids and just meeting up with friends in all kinds of weather 👍
S. P.
Amazing free day out. Lovely country paths and birdwatching. If you bring a dog please clean up after and make sure they are on a lead.
D. W.
Great for kids or just out for dog walk recommend getting a sausage roll and coffee in farm
T. C.
This place is no doubt more attractive in the summer months. The cafeteria is fine with the view towards the lake. Coffee and cake, or a snack, worth having. Ice cream I shall wait for summer.
a.
Great place for walking the dogs, long and short distance walks available. There is a cafe but they don't do anything vegan although you can get some vegan bars.
L. G.
Amazing place for children and adults.
N. I.
Went for the parkrun.
Nice park for running with a mix of harder gravely park paths then trial run type routes through the wooded area.
Parkrun an be very congested at the start as road for initial section is narrow and run can be busy and limited overtaking areas. Dust is kicked up quite a bit as well. Not the best one to get you PB in but a good challenge once you get out of the busy starting section.
W. T.
I regularly visit. They do fabulous cakes and scones.
D. M.
A great place to enjoy the outdoors. You can even climb a 'smallish' hill to glimpse wonderful views of the River Tyne and beyond, as well as the City of Newcastle- Upon-Tyne
I. L.
A great place to take your kids. Friendly staff, very clean, well priced and a great choice of toys and places for your children's enjoyment....well done!
A. C.
Great outdoor space. Great for walking the dog or taking the kids out to burn off some energy. Has a little farm and there is plenty of walking.
a.
This is a hidden gem, tucked away behind the Asda car park (leave the car there and head up the short road on foot, or take the path through the woods). The park has a visitor centre (useful if you need the toilet), and offers lovely walks/runs on hard fill paths, with woodland, a lake, paddocks (there's ecen a tame stag!) and meadows, as well as a former slag heap that's now all green, and its peak offers good views of the surrounding areas. On Saturday mornings at 9am, almost 300 runners do their weekly free 5k race: a perfect way to start thecweekend and get to know the park!
P. S.
Had an excellent coffee, just the right strength and temperature. Could do with more outdoor seating these days.
B. B.
Nature reserve and country park built on reclaimed pit land. Pond has bird hides and a trail around. Good day out with kids. Look out for the deer - nobody knows how he got there - just appeared one morning. Paths are mostly suitable for buggies, scooters etc. but sturdy footwear is a good idea. Cafe can close at strange times - worth checking before you visit. Car park can get busy at times. There's an Asda supermarket next door if you miss the cafe or need picnic items. The climb up the hill is worth doing - great view over tyneside and out to the coast.
A. I.
Jewel in the crown of North Tyneside. What a fabulous park with large lake. Great for dog walking, bird watching and jogging etc. So so much to see and do. There is also a café and toilet facilities on site. I believe they also facilitate school trips etc.
P.
Some good outdoor walks here and excellent view from elevation of old pit heap. Nice visitors centre and free car parking. Access road is on left hand side of Asda.
d. j. n.
Friendly staff and they have everything in place to make this a corona friendly campsite. Luckily got a camping spot last minute. Lovely location excellent views and facilities.
S. D.
Nice place, well kept kids love it here walks around the lake and playing in the park 👍
H. M.
Lovely spot to have a coffee while children play. With great walks and cycling paths.
d. w.
Could do with a bigger play area it is clearly needed as the amount of children that use it ,my Grandchildren love going
m. t.
Excellent place, but warning should be up about fallen trees
L. D.
if you love the country you will love this place. it's wonderful for children well catered got them and lots of events. the cafe is lovely as is the food which can be eaten indoors or out.
S.
This place always reminds me of school trips and it sure is a hidden gem. Right next door to a huge ASDA and unless you know it's there it's way too easy to drive past it. The staff are really helpful and knowledgeable in all things countryside. Given this place is right in the centre of a huge urban area, just East of Newcastle it truly is everything you would expect from a country park. I highly recommend this to everyone.
Just head to ASDA and you won't miss it.
D. “. L.
Reasonable food, reasonable prices, great view of the lake.
Nothing fancy but for a bit of a get away close the hustle and bustle of Newcastle or for a stop after walking the old wagon ways, it's a welcome site.
V. B.
Lovely place for a family walk.
D. S.
Just a short distance from my home with great amenities and great views. If you like nature walks this is a delight
A. S.
Plenty parking & lovely walks. Excellent food & very reasonable
E. C.
Excellent for a day out with the entire family and great for dog walking. Just been to a party here too and the kids party was fantastic. Everyone was fully entertained throughout.

Great place to walk the dog or just walk yourself
J. F.
Excellent place to go and have a cup of coffee and sit in the sun while drinking it.
Lots of other stuff to do of course and plenty of playground space for the kids as well.
G. K.
Such a great place. Lots to do plenty different walks, great kids playing area and coffee shop. Discover more every time I go.
G. G.
Great family friendly cafe with a picturesque view .The menu advertises light refreshments ,ideal should you wish to venture out on one of the walks ,etc . An adjacent room is available to book for meetings .
P. D.
It was lovely and sunny with a safe place for the children to play. Only disappointment was people not taking notice of the big signs stating one way system for the cafe!
E. B.
Used to have a lot more for kids to do in the actual cafe are. Things have either been barred off or have disappeared. Spoilt it for my 4 year old grandson.
L. R.
Always a great place to go. Although on this day no scones left. The cheese ones are great. Had a lovely Jacket potatoe tho. Would recommend.
C. A.
Excellent, good parking good walks, plenty to see what's not to like.
(Hidden behind Asda)
s. l.
Brilliant place to go anytime of year. Lovely peaceful walks with great nature and wildlife. Has large lake with many different birds. Cafe and visitor centre.
A. M.
Lovely walk around with family. Sadly due to Covid the cafe had just closed so the children couldn't have promised ice cream
G. H.
Nice stroll around keep an eye out on the wide life.
B. R.
Good walks. Wheelchair accessable. Birds and wildlife abundant when no noise being made. Ideal for responsible dog walking.
P. D.
A good local park to stretch your legs but it's possibly the muddiest place in the world so don't go there wearing your best trainers.
S. H.
Great place for walks and there's parking. Easy access and the walks go in all different directions, lovely pond and lots of Canadian geese!
S. T.
I live near here and very lucky to have this beautiful place so close
P. E.
Nice walks for the dog. Good for cycling. A decent cafe and open area for the kids to play. Loads of activities for the kids.
a. a.
Amazing walks. Farm and falconry great for kids and the bakery serves excellent homemade food
N. C.
All very nice, lovely country park, coffee shop very nice, clean toilets ,covid 19 guide lines in place, 1 way in and out .
I. S.
Not that big and full of people. To be expected in an area surrounded by houses, but still a little sad.
Need to travel much further out for a bit more peace and quiet away from building sites and road noise
V. S.
Be sure to visit Earth and Fire if you visit the farm (farm side of park by stables). Fresh baked bread, sausage rolls and sweet treats. Not to be missed.
H. C.
The park is beautiful and deserves a 6. The staff in the cafe made loud retching noises when I ordered a black coffee. Not sure what she would have done if I'd wanted something unusual.
S. S.
Great for a free day out! Take the kids and the dogs for a lovely walk.. not recommended for wheelchairs though as can get quite muddy and sticky.
A. B.
Excellent place to take the kid's
K. H.
Love it here, peaceful walks, bird hides, brilliant for kids and a wonderful cafe with lovely staff.
I. L.
Nice place to have quite walk away from the hustle and bustle of Newcastle.
R. H.
Former Deep mine area transformed into rural landscape, forest planted, walkers and riders wandering the paths. So now an area of immense historical significance not least for Connections to Stephenson and early locomotion as well as geographical land use
and technology innovation
D. W.
Really nice walks fantastic days to go for picnics and I really like the scenery over there is really really pretty
S. G.
Nice place to visit. Lots to see and nice to walk around 😉
M. W.
Plenty of birds about. Paths nice and dry. Coffee shop good as always. Too much litter on edge of some paths. Needs a big clean up.
G. T.
Great place to visit.
Lovely playpark and cafe.
Nice for a long walk and to see the horses.
T. M.
Nice place to go for a walk with the dogs! Not enough poo bins though. That's probably why a lot of people don't pick up after their dog
T. W.
Like a lot of places when the sun shines it make for a great day as with the rising sun countryside park it has it all farm area for the kids with animals etc and to top it off a lovely cafe area with grassed embankment and a babbling brook and mini park for the kids highly recommended
G. K.
So easy to get there by bus no worries about parking and very nice to walk around and see all the different shops if you cannot find what you're looking for in there you won't find it anywhere also has a great selection of bars and restaurants
A.
Lovely little gem of the North East nestled away in wallsend, lovely walks and a lot of wildlife and animals to be seen, the farm has a falconry display hut with owls and kestrels etc
K. M.
A lovely walk with a small farm! I must recommend the earth and fire bakery, located in the farm area.
R. B.
Great place to walk about, lots of things to explore for kids,
be aware it is used by people walking their dogs
J. D.
Regular visitor here for Saturday Parkrun. Entry for this varies between 450 and 550 and this can make the paths busy between 9 and 10 on a Saturday morning.
The visitors centre is worth calling in at, with toilets,a cafe and a play area for kids to burn off any excess energy. Walks along the paths are clearly signposted and vary in length and difficulty.
J. B.
Good place to visit nice walks and wild life ponds as well
S. P.
Good at quiet times, but it's gets too busy on warm/sunny days and they aren't set up for that.
I. B.
Nice place for a walk, cycle, walk a dog or feed the horses. There is a children centre and they do staff for schools and most amaising Santa's grotto.
M. M.
I have great walks there every day, but I should say there is 1iresponsible dog walker who obviously has no consideration for any one else. Problem is she is getting paid to do the job.
G. S.

S. P.
Great place to take your beloved dog for a walk, plenty of parking and an Asda right next door incase you need a snack or forget your poop bags.
J.
Lovely place to visit great walks and you can walk down to the little farm and see the animals
B. T.
Great day out and good place to grab a coffee! Food is amazing from the bakery too! ❤️
P. M.
Sadly this beautiful country park is about to be invaded by 800+ houses being built all around the adjacent area. Add to the dog walking businesses who have also decided to explode in their numbers, I fear this is the end of our country park.
S. M.
Lovely countryside park with lots of walk suitable for pram and cafe with lovely view and child playground. Cafe serves nice food.
k. c.
Great place to walk with kids or the dog safe but can get muddy even better when the cafe can reopen

C. P.
Fab country park with ponds, ducks and a resident deer
D. B.
Beautiful spot for walking or bike riding, lots of nature to take in. A big concern with regards the number of houses being built very nearby, in danger of spoiling the area.
A. R.
Another great outdoor ammenity in North Tyneside, great cycle route.
A. S.
Amazing country park, hills, lake, country tracks, working farm and woods. The best park for dog walking around North Tyneside and Newcastle. Plus there is a cafe too.
A. N.
The cafe in the centre is always very clean, and the staff are always very friendly. However, on hot days the cafe is a warmer than it is outside, it can be quite uncomfortable sitting in there some days.
T. O.
Nice walks on what used to be the Potsdam slag heap!! Great view from the top.
S. B.
Lots to see and a good variety of walks. I good cafe as well and easy parking. 5 year old loved the play area.

Lovely place, the great outdoors in your doorstep. The food is fine and a fair price. Lots to explore. Brilliant climbing tree....
M. T.
Amazing place for walks, bike rides and wildlife. And if you're lucky you will see the stag.
A. B.
We love this place although sadly every visit to the cafe has resulted in us being given the wrong or an incomplete order ... Whilst staff are lovely to us we have witnessed several arguments between staff and visitors over food delays and hours of service being unclear to visitors .. a few tweaks and this place could be a council goldmine ..as it is tho I think they probably lose more money than they know ... Which is a shame because it really is a great little place ...
K. L.
Such a lovely place to visit for a walk.
C. B.
Good cafe lots of space for bairns, plenty of walks social distances observed throughout will keep on going cheers😁
A. M.
