I didn't see the buildings in the photo, I assume they were inside a courtyard that wasn't open. I just saw the outside of the building from Broad Chare. My companion was a local and he'd never heard of the Chares so I was sad that I couldn't show him something more spectacular but the plaque on the wall was interesting, referring as it does to 1505. What an amazing sight the Chares must have been, bustling with merchants and spices. I would love to have seen inside Trinity House. Sad that so little of Newcastle's medieval heritage survives.

I had a fabulous morning looking round, my grandad used to be the summoner there and it brought back such happy memories
The staff were great and so helpful, I felt like nothing was too much trouble despite this visit been sprung on them.
Such a worthwhile charity that deserves more support.

An astonishing window on Britain's navel heritage from Trafalgar to the post war fleet. Full of magnificent battle paintings , models and photographs displayed in wood panelled splendor.
