Fascinating collection full of interesting finds. Take your time and have a good look around, well worth a visit if you're in the area.

If you have a real interest in the sea, sailing and marine history you will thoroughly enjoy your visit here, vast collection mostly from wrecks around the coast of the Isle of Wight, Could possibly do with more space to have more specialised and less cluttered displays. Allow two hours if you watch the dvd of how the collection came about and many of the museums contents.

Great time there really enjoyed it
K. B.
A fascinating place. I could easily have spent longer there looking at all the exhibits. Friendly staff. A lovely little quiz for the children to complete and plenty to see for the price.

Eerie and macabre.. but also fascinating and intriguing that the collection celebrates the achievements of rescue and recovery as well as paying homage to those that were lost to the sea.
A small museum packed to the gunnels with history and curated with much love. Especially liked the notes on nautical lingo and the sea shanty songs which played throughout the gallery.

Reasonable entry, small but absolutely crammed with items. Very interesting exhibits, worth the visit.

On the way to the Isle of Wight our son wasn't feeling great. He was tested twice for covid, he was clear just general fatigue and stress from finishing the school year. He was restless for the first couple of days.
After spending 10 mins in the museum he just sat on the floor telling us he wasn't feeling great. I took him outside for some air, went in again but not long after he wanted to be outside. The short time we had spent inside I would say was informative and generally interesting. Next time we visit the I.o.W we will finish our tour of the museum. Sorry Shipwreck Centre.

Many interesting items on display. Could do with more information boards. Collection obviously needs bigger premises to display artefacts at their best.

A modest, but excellently preserved collection of maritime history. Well worth taking the time to watch the in depth documentary that plays in the reception room and absorb all the local history. Small people with short attention spans might find it a little dry if you are going as a family though.

Not much too look at on the outside but wow what an interesting place too vist well worth it
E. B.
Its small but very interesting not a ridiculous price either
C. M.
Love the history first time seeing it
A. K.
Great place, well worth a visit, but leave the kids at home if you want any hope of actually reading about anything!
Loads of fascinating history here, and thousands of artifacts rescued from wrecks all over the world.
S. C.
Lovely place, ideal for kids who love to do arts and making. Great place to visit in general for young and old. Dog friendly.
A. H.
So much to see. Very interesting. Well worth the entrance fee.

One of the best museums I've ever been to! An utter gem of a museum hidden away in a beautiful setting. The staff were so friendly and let my boys try on the old diving hats. We marvelled at everything from a merman to a megalodon tooth and everything nautical in between. My children's favourite was the real pirate treasure! Well worth a visit.

Part of the barns outlet that we visited today very good

We spent a good hour and a half in here without even realising where the time had gone.
There was a quiz for my little one (7 yr old) to do which he really enjoyed and got him involved.
It is not massive, but very informative and if you are interested in anything like that then it is well worth a visit.
And, of course, it is amongst the Arreton Barns, so there are lots of lovely shops to visit too.

Absolute hidden gem such a eclectic mix of items and fascinating items from local ship wrecks.

Interesting place to visit..not my cup of tea but others seemed to like the experience.

They have a lot of kid's question sheets and trails prepared. Although not a vast place, you can spend a really good few hours with kids entertained. Oh and don't forget to mention the mummy of merman.. very fascinating😆 There was a big koi pond with many ducks next to it and you can feed the ducks and fishes. When we visited in early summer we were really lucky to encounter some really cute ducklings!!

This museum is just one part of a collection of shops, galleries, and working craft centres housed in barns at Arreton Barns, IOW. The museum contains hundreds of items retrieved from multiple shipwrecks on the sea bed, by Martin Woodward. There is an excellent video presentation which is worth sitting through (it is quite long). The exhibits are displayed in an interesting and entertaining format. We spent over an hour inside before exploring glassworks, small art galleries. Check out the little Creaturama barn - great if you like superheros or Daleks or dinosaurs - you get the idea!

We absolutely loved our trip to the shipwreck and Maritime Museum! If there is any enquiry about a ship which went to sea, became lost or wrecked, they will know about it. I had the opportunity and great privilege to talk with Martin and his wife about the museum and the shipwreck "Carbon" which my son and I would hopefully discover on a low tide on the island. Moreover, there were lots of activities for my children who were also amazed by the amazing artifacts found under the sea and the equipment used to recover them. We all loved it!
