Lovely place - full to the brim of many interesting artifacts relating to WW11. If this subject is something that you like looking at then it's well worth a visit. The volunteers who look after it all are very informative. It is quite easy to find even though it is off the beaten track.

Excellent collection with some surprising items. Particularly liked the flight report cards following night raids and the.volume of weapons and uniforms is awesome !! We visit the memorial on remembrance day each year followed by tea and cake at the museum.

Very nice! Full of information. A little tour gives context. A little bit overwhelming to piece the rest story together because of the large amount of artifacts but the volunteers are a wealth of knowledge and I'm sure they would explain anything to you if you just ask.

It's WWII historically factual on secret side of the war from US construction to end. I don't visit I'm a voluntary attendant there & this year (2022) they've changed the weekly itinerary to fortnightly & weekends to just Sundays only & Bk Hol Mon., if applicable. Coach & School groups can be specially arrged with Museum Attendants during weekdays. Reason for reduction in opening times is due to (i) lack of volunteers coming forward. (ii) most volunteers here are octogenerians others are between 50/65 & slowly being defeated or depleted by age & health.

Very interesting eclectic collection of WW2 Carpetbagger memorabilia. The Volunteer staff are very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Well worth visiting 😊.

What an interesting place! The Gentleman who acted as our guide ranks among the best I have heard anywhere. Although this place looks very low key, it is unbelievable some of the things that happened. The exhibits are all well laid out and explanations provided for each one. I have to go back again as I did not spend enough time reviewing the exhibits. If you are interested in the darker operations of WW2 and enjoy spy novels etc, this is an ideal place to spend a day absorbing the history. Thanks to the enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff!

What a hidden gem of a museum. When you drive up to the location you have no idea what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised. Your greeted by knowledgeable hosts whom i beleive are passionate volunteers, many of whom have local knowledge and an intimate knowledge of the base which initially operated flying the "carpetbagger missions" during the latter years of WW2. It also served as a base for the Thor ballistic missiles in the 50's/60's. An amazingly rich collection of exhibits. I can't recommend this place highly enough and will be coming back. Thanks for a great day out.

Brilliant little museum, packed full of interesting artefacts. Well worth the drive down country roads to find. If you're interested in military history or World War 2 you'll really enjoy this. Only open weekends spring-summer-autumn. Will take you anything between half an hour and three hours to look around depending on your level of interest in the subject matter. Tea/Coffee biscuits available. Run by charming friendly people. A real labour of love. The USA should give these guys a medal for keeping the history of their brave boys alive.

This is a "must see" for anyone interested in clandestine operations of WWII . The operations and other structures are maintained in similar conditions and original settings to the period, very unassuming on the outside, and well presented on the inside. A true step back in time. I simply cannot thank the volunteer docents of this museum enough for the hospitality I received at the Museum. Thank you Fred West for the great tour and Roy Tebbut for all the information regarding my Uncle Bill (John William Walch). I cannot wait for my next visit.

Very interesting place to visit. Unfortunately for us it was an Open Day so was chocka block. Couldn't hear one of films about Thor due partly to the entertainment (ukulele band) and partly to one of the volunteers talking loudly to a visitor.

Although first impressions left us a little unsure, the extent of the collection and the knowledge and enthusiasm of the staff was incredible. This is one of those hidden gem places - nothing flash or pretentious - that you happen upon from time to time that leaves an indelible print on your imagination. I would urge anyone with an interest in local social history and / or WWII to go, you won't be disappointed although you may be a little humbled! Fascinating, engaging and imagination captivating. Enjoy....

Was unaware this place existed. Only came across it from seeing a road sign for it and decided to take a look. So glad we did. This place didn't look much from the outside but inside was a different story and has a lot of interesting pieces associated with WW2. Well worth a visit if you are in the area. Staff very friendly and very knowledgeable too.

Its brilliant it only looks small but there is so many artefacts and items from the history of the base also lots of personal items telling lots of stories of life on base and on operations. I spent 3 hrs here and it could have longer very enjoyable and informative.

Very interesting insight into the secret operations carried on from here during WW2. Those involved in clandestine operations abroad were truly brave as were the aircrew who got them there. Keith was an enthusiastic guide with wide knowledge of his subject. Just a bit disappointed that coverage of the Cold War operations was barely covered in the tour, video or museum exhibits. In many ways that story is equally momentous in a different way and very scary if you think of the consquences of launching the things.

At first glance this place may not look much, but inside you will find very friendly and warm welcoming staff. Highly recommend having a tour guide. Fred was great showing us around. Plenty of displays to see and interesting history this place has. Had a great laugh in the cafe with the other volunteers (Ted, Peter, Fred and Betty), made the day very enjoyable. Ted was also very knowledgable about the surrounding area and told us to visit Kelmarsh Fuel Depot which is next to the old Kelmarsh railway line. Do highly recommend walking this and visiting the tunnels too. Great day out with the family.

When we drove up to the Museum, located in a small building that served as the command center for "USAAF Station 179," from which super-secret B-24 "Carpetbagger" missions flew during 1944-1945 to resupply resistance fighters in France and elsewhere, my wife and I thought it might take us a half-hour to see, even though it has a very personal meaning for me. At least four hours later we were sorry to leave. The collection is incredibly rich -- no flashy exhibits, but everything beautifully explained in as much (or as little) detail as you would like. The volunteers who run it are more than dedicated; they are a key source for information about this relatively little-known WW II operation -- little known even though it took thousands of support personnel to run it and would often fly as many as 50 modified B-24s a night.

History buffs will love this, crammed with artefacts and memorabilia from WW2. Authentic and actual military operations rooms. We learned all about the “carpetbaggers” from our elderly, but very knowledgable guide who was such a treasure! Highly recommended.

Fascinating. You can walk around the edge of the airfield and see the old Thor launch pads. Chilling to realise how much man-made destructive power was so close to us around the time I was born.
