Easy to get to, ample parking, toilets, cafe, lots to see and do for all ages. Vintage buses, and the seven and a quarter inch gauge miniature railway is amazing. Highly recommended. 👍

We and my 3 yers old son had a wonderful time there. You can see old trains and buses there. In a small cafe you can order delicious food. We also have been lucky enough to have a ride in a small train for a pound.
A. S.
A must visit place. A great bunch of volunteers who make your experience unforgettable for any age. We even took in the free bus ride to Clifton
P. E.
I was only there briefly, but I enjoyed viewing the old BR diesel engines.
T. P.
Set in Rushcliffe Country Park, gives a very relaxing time out. There is a bus garage with old Nottingham buses on show, a miniature railway open for rides Sundays 11am until 4pm. Also a model railway club to look at based on Ruddington Station in the late 50's, which is free to view.
L. Y.
Great place for children. My grandson loves going here. He loves riding on the little trains and at 50p a go it doesn't break the bank and has numerous rides on the different trains. Thomas being his favourite. He also loves watching the model trains display.
R. J.
A lovely trip on the railway with really nice and helpful staff.
We went in off peak so there wasn't much going on around the area, we weren't sure where to buy a ticket or what to do while waiting for the train. My partner's five year old loved looking at the miniature trains and when the steam train pulled in he was just speechless :) I'd go again just for that face of pure joy.

We had mixed feelings about the GCRN, it cost us £24 for two rovers and we managed to get the first train that was doing a round trip to Loughborough. The train was a diesal (we was aware before going) it was a bit tatty, but the carriages were nice although perhaps not the classic heritage style we might have expected. There was no real info whilst on the journey albeit the journey itself was pleasant enough.
When returned we had a wonder round the yard area, perhaps not overly child friendly. None of the buses were open to look at so didn't spend much time with them. Little man enjoyed looking at the model railways and the miniature railway (reviewed seperatly as it wasn't included in the main fare that we paid and thus you could go and just do this).
They are thinking / working on linking the railway up at Loughborough so it will be interesting to see how it develops in the future.

Attended the fireworks what great value for money £10!! For me my partner and my son. Fireworks were just what we needed nothing to over the top and just the right amount. They did have a fair on which was crazy prices but thats to be expected. Great location.

I took a three year old here, he was so enthusiastic & loved every moment, I think we had a ride on all the miniature engine rides (at 50p each), we took the shorter ride on the diesel to Rushcliffe Halt £9 for adults my 3 year old was free, I believe the longer ride is £12 for adults not sure of childrens price, we watched the model railway & thank you to the lovely young man visiting who told us all the names of Thomas & friends. Run mainly by volunteers, who are lovely, so enthusiastic, many had built their own trains. A boys/tom-boy's paradise, so I loved every moment as a tomboy & my 3 year old wants to go again. Looking forward the Steam engines running. There is a cafe, shop & toilets, forgive me I was to busy with a three year old to notice if there were facilities for the less able & their wheelchairs, but will update next time I go. An added bonus is that it is next door to a lovely country park..so make a full day here.

This is an awesome site with lots of things to see and do. It is targeted at those who prefer diesels rather than steam, and includes a number of interesting exhibits.
Of particular importance is the prototype HST which now runs on occasional weekends. The classic Valenta engines produce their famous sound giving an amazing experience.
Other exhibits include a collection of diesels, including a maintenance shed, a model railway, a miniature railway and a selection of preserved buses.
Definitely well worth a visit. Check the 125 Group's web site first if you're after the HST to ensure you're not disappointed.
R. H.
We had a great afternoon out riding on the railway, although we were delayed on the return journey as sparks from the loco had set light to the line-side embankment and we had to wait for the fire crews to put out the fire. Food at the small cafe was good and we also had a ride on the miniature railway.
S. H.
Current home of the 125 prototype, this place includes a preserved railway line (currently you can’t alight at Loughborough), model railways, miniature railways and engine sheds. A great afternoon out with helpful and attentive volunteers.
K. S.
Great for all ages. My young boys love riding on the small steam trains.

The starting point for the Great Central Railway (Nottingham) that runs a weekend & Bank Holiday steam train scheduled.
The site is accessed from the entrance to the Ruddington Country Park site. (Which is well worth a visit & has a great cafe)!
The site it's self is rather sprawling & looks like it is at the start of a renovation project.
It houses several facilities including a small narrow gauge track that runs minature steam train rides for kids.
The site appears to be used to hold a stock of railway equipment & machinery in verious states of repair.
There is also a mid 20th century transport museum there & a small cafe, along with the ticket office & platform for the GCR steam trains.
Parking appears to be free.
C. C.
Bit of a hotch potch of random groups under the transport banner - Great Central Railway Nottingham, Vintage Bus group, Small model railway, scale stream engine group etc. Not as slick as other GCR centres on the southern section. Nice interactive features on special days, but a normal weekend leaves a little to be desired. Plenty of room to park and can be accessed from Rushcliffe country park car park too. £2 cash donation requested if you park in the on-site car park. Onsite cafe serving hot food and multiple bric-a-brac shops too.
S. B. (.
Our first visit on a steam train at the Ruddington station.
We arrived 2.30pm on the bank holiday Monday and the last train was due out at 3pm.
Though my partner is the steam train enthusiast, I too was looking forward to the new route as we've both travelled on the Loughborough line of the GCR. More so for my partner..
Though building works were not quite finished around the station area, it was accessible.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Children had goodie bags given to them on the train plus the joy of a giant bear 😉🐻 to have photos took with..
The whole journey took around 90 minutes with one short stop to get light refreshments from a porto cabin. Unfortunately a flight of concrete steps with no disabled access from what I could see.
Other than that a nice comfortable train ride.
Thankyou.
R. C.
Amazing Heritage Railway and Transport Collection. Home to the Prototype HST 41001. Had an amazing time on the 3 Train Workings pulled with Mark 3 Coaches.
M. T.
Something different every time we come, today there were vintage Morris Minors and Landrovers for me with model train rides and the park for the kids
R. H.
Very interesting. Been a few years since I was last here. If you like your trains or buses definitely worth a visit. The miniature railway is very good too.
P. N.
A really lovely morning on the Santa Express. Lovely compartment coach. Kids also loved the model railways.
T. P.
giving this a 5 star review just because the responses to the 1 star reviews with no comment is just funny if the guy who replied is still working for the GCRN please reply absolute chad mate you’re doing gods work
J. F.
Excellent Bacon Butties on arrival.
Our first visit to the Classic Car meet but we will be back.
S. F.
Fantastic fireworks display last night. Well done all concerned.
G. T.
Lovely day out steam running as well highly recommend. 0lenty to see and do
G. N. (.
A wonderful collection of disparate forms of transport and a miniature railway. A great way to spend several hours, particularly with kids.
S. F.
Lovely escape from the daily routine!
We enjoyed the mini train sooo much,
We will go back again!
D. E.
Lots of things to see, model railways, live steam miniature railway to ride on, buses, stationary engines and a good cafe. Great for children and adults.
M. L.
Lovely morning spent looking at trains, busses and old cars.
C. S.
Nice place to spend sometime , if you are in to transport something for all ages . Nice food in cafe
A. H.
Really fun with my little ones. Cafe was lovely and it was all so reasonable priced! Just remember change for the little donation boxes if you want to support the work being done there and for the £1 train ride.
P. R.
Only £1 each for a ride on the little train! We had so much fun. The cafe is very nice too and the little playground
P. W.
Great day out just sit back and enjoy the ride and a look round.
l. m.
Good regular classic car meeting here.
J. G.
Great to see the full range of locomotive history of the United Kingdom
B. S.
If you love steam trains this is a brilliant place to visit
R. B.
First visit and things just getting back after the lockdown. Plenty of room and good train rides for kids big and small. Nice café and interesting old local buses. Didn't get to ride on the big train and not much information available about it.
L. T.
Great place for a leisurely afternoon, the kids loved the train rides and i had a good look round all the old vehicles. There was even a guy playing the piano! Superb! Try the cheesy chips.... theyre great!
C. S.
Nice seeing the vintage buses and having ride on one of them
D. B. (.
Very much a work it progress, but worth a visit.
H. W.
Just been on the Santa Train, great family experience and lovely afternoon. Our 3 year old loved it! Santa came and sat in our carriage and our daughter received a quality gift. Well organised by volunteers who have put so much effort in to the event. Well worth the money and also had a nice festive treat and tipple. Would recommend.
L. W.
Absolutely brilliant, just got back from a fantastic day out, so much to do in the area and parking is only £1 for the whole day, incredible! Suitable for all ages, can't wait to go back 🚂🚂
S. L.
We went for the Santa Train event. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the staff the experience was not great. They could not resolve the fog which took away any view from the train but it still was a disappointment. The train itself was clean but tired. There was no consistent lighting which meant on a dreary day the carriage was very dark. It was also cold and damp. Santa came to each booth and spent very little time talking to the children. At a price of £12 per head I expected more. There was no music on the carriage, no decorations, no joy really which was a shame for the staff/volunteers who worked hard to deliver what people paid for. In addition it was advertised as mulled wine and mince pies, a small cold bottle of red with a not very nice mince pie did not meet that description. As much as I wish the venue well for the future, and I am glad we tried it, we will not be returning again next year.
S. H.
A brilliant model railway run by the kindest nicest people ever.
G. C.
Great find. You can’t see steam engine trip most weekends for about £11 (adult) or ride on one of the many mini locomotives for just 50p. They cafe is a typical greasy spoon, but that helps fit with the theme. As well as restored locomotives and the mini train they also have model railways, trams and bus/coach projects that you can see. All than and free car parking, definitely worth a visit.
A. M.
Well worth a visit. Check out the website for special events.
K. M.
Lovely place , very family friendly , lots for little ones to do , fantastic value for money
L. G.
My train mad 5yo loved our afternoon at NHR... will definitely be going back soon and hopefully manage a full size steam trip aswell as the miniature railway next time
N. P.
Great few hours out. Mini train ride is a bargain and loved by us all! Food was excellent and for a fab price, highly recommend a visit!
N. C.
Beautiful place to visit for a family walk out and the food in the heritage cafe on site is beautiful! A lovely family run cafe with all home made cooked food and also do amazing hot chocolates and milkshakes with a huge range of flavours! I love it here x

Friendly Heritage Railway
With Model Railway
Transport Museum
And a large Children Ride Railway.
Next to a Country Park.
Well worth a visit.
C. R.
Lovely day out. The Country Park next door is great for the kids and visiting the Heritage Centre topped off a super day out. The model railway is delightful (and free) and the miniature railway is excellent value for money (50p for adult and 30p for child, under 3s free). We had two goes, one on each track with a different engine. Seeing the running steam engine and Class 47 was a real bonus.
S. M.
Great place for vintage trains and buses
P. B.
Great mini ride on railway. Perfect for all train fanatic children. Also really good model railway both indoors and outdoors. Steam train ride was a bit of a let down as it didn't stop at any other stations it just went up and down the line.
J. J.
A fantastic and fun place. My family had a great day. The volunteers are superb and couldn't be more helpful. Loved the miniature and large steam train rides.
j. C.
A good attraction for all the family
A. C.
Fantastic day cost £ 10'each adult for the steam train ride.but you dont have to have a ride.plenty to see and do.small engines for 50 p .good clean cafe. Reasonable prices. Also large bus museum.will go again
J. R.
Fantastic collection from history. All run by volunteers. Lots of unfinished projects and a few dangerous parts. I wouldn't want uncontrollable kids running about. But for well behaved inquisitive children there is plenty to see and do.
A. P.
Nice place to spend time with young kids. The best thing though has to be the miniature railway run by hobby enthusiasts!
The full size steam train ride is expensive for what it is, and you really need to be into trains to justify that kind of money.
P. B.
Great nostalgic day out. Lovely steam train journey to Loughborough and back. Easy car parking and good on site facilities. Very friendly volunteer staff with lots of useful historical information. A really lovely day out, would definitely recommend.
P. D.
The miniature railway is the star of the show here. There is a nice model to look at, some old buses and a kids playground, but unfortunately a little run down. The yearly fireworks event is great and highly recommended.
W. C.
A good Sunday afternoon and the miniature railway was running and very enjoyable, took a look in the bus garage and a coffee. Kids play ground could use a freshen up. A very decent set up.
R. G.
A unique place to go . Lovely surroundings with beautiful Rushcliffe country park on the railways doorstep for family or anyone to have a full day out here . No charge to enter , and only 50 p for a train ride . The volunteers deserve full credit . The trains are so well kept and the track takes you around a small route and also through s small tunnel . There’s a cosy cafe with lovely hot food if you wanted . Really worth a visit . There was a track with model Thomas the tank and friends too ( moving eyes )! Extra fun for little ones .
G. J.
Lots of engineering work in progress to see on vintage trains and buses. The staff seem to love discussing the work. Great for anyone who likes history and engineering. The rideable mini railway shuts down for the winter though.
K. A. C.
My children love it here, lovely food and drink at the heritage cafe, model trains, ride on trains play area and much more. Definitely worth a visit
L. M.
The main steam train journey is slow and long but makes for good value for money. Try and go when the miniature trains run as these are great fun for all. Model displays and museum free to enter
K. F.
The train ride and seeing the steam locomotive was great, it was just over an hour trip. The cafe is a very basic fish and chips situation, tho they took card which was useful. Playground is very tired and basic, but it's right next door to rushcliffe park so we walked there afterwards for a run around. GCRN car park has no charge.
S. B.
So friendly, they love dogs, good food, great value for money. Nothing posh, but great for dog walkers. Would definitely recommend after visiting and eating there with friends and family several times.
D. D.
Great value so much to do my grandson who's 3 had tge best time ever
The steam train the Thomas set up and the parked he loved xx
G.
My son loves it here, all the staff are lovely and the steam train is amazing. Can also go on the mini train for 50p a ride, it's also free entry. You'd be silly not to visit.
T. C.
My son loved going on the little trains excellent value for money.
A. B.
Nice train ride and vintage bus ride
T.
Lovely place, can’t wait for the railway to start running again!
R. S.
Lovely place to visit. The small train and runs around the track is great fun. The Fireworks this year were also fabulous a great family day out.
R. M.
It's a good afternoon / morning out run by a group of very enthusiastic people. They have a small model railway which you can go for a ride on for a nominal price. There is a small shop selling railway memorbelia and a small children's play area. There is also a "greasy spoon" style cafe. They do a fantastic Santa train every year for younger kids quite magical ( I found it very Harry Potter ish). They regularly run old trains steam and diesel. And they have an excellent firework display every year. Well worth a visit.
B. W.
I never tire of this magnificent tribute to the UK's transport engineering history. Steam engines large and small maintained by a dedicated bunch of enthusiasts. Diesel locomotives and a collection of vintage buses. Several model layouts. Go for breakfast or lunch in the cafe and ride round the site on the narrow gauge. Have chat with some interesting folk who are all volunteers. Over the years it has been the victim of senseless mindless vandalism which it doesn't deserve but credit, support and donations which it most certainly does. Thank you to all the folks at GCRN.
P. M.
Kids love it, nice to see the way things were back in the day
M. M.
An Amazing Place To Take your Children on The Weekend aspeshly if that are Train & Bus Infusions
M. B.
A great day out for all ages, lots to see and do with the miniature railway to sit on and enjoy, from old buses, and even a ride on an old steam train to Loughborough. A small cafe and shop on site selling light refreshments to main meals at cheap prices. A day out for anybody!
a. p. h. (. H.
A fun afternoon, the miniature railway is excellent and great value. Model railway is also very nice to see.
Nice little shop and cafe.
Not alot of on site parking but usually some spaces for quid for whole day before entrance.
Not as much to see in regards to locomotives compared to gcr Loughborough but when the building work and reunification of the two parts of the gcr line, i think this will be gem.
A. K.
a great railway to visit the line used to be part of the great central Maine lines London extension the current start of the line is on the old MOD base but its a great site. sadly the original Ruddington station a little bit up the line was demolished
R. C.
Great place to explore and enjoy. Full size heritage railway, miniature ride on railway, historic presentation model railway, historic operating local bus group, large adjacent country park. Something to interest all the family, a cafe, souvenir shop and bric a brac store. Well worth a day out.
I. H.
I wasn't really sure what to expect from this place, and unfortunately we went on a weekend when there were no events happening, however it does look an enjoyable place to visit.
S. K.
The greatest central real service first class lounge at Paddington is worthy he trip. Lunch sandwiches, great fresh fruit and two distinct rooms. One more modern and the adjacent room more historic. Right by end of platform one. Well staffed and clean.
M. K.
Nice place with a nice little steam railway £1 for a ride on the miniature railway and a cafe onsight, and just next to Rushcliffe Country Park another great place to visit, so a good day out all round
K. G.
First visit. We will be back.
P. B. S. B.
I volunteer here and help with renovating a Mk. 1 railway carriage as well as helping in the car park assisting visitors to park safely. Edward the bear was visiting the railway today, the train was headed by a steam engine, there were quite a few visitors today, hopefully a little profit was made to put towards ongoing restoration projectsmore visitors means more cash for projects.
P. n. S.
Heritage museum with full size and miniature railway. Lots of trains, buses and other transport related stuff. Do a good fireworks event every Nov and a santa express (with a steam train)
T. R.
Wonderful place, friendly staff and very good value for money. Enjoyed our time there.
N. A.
The easiest day to come here is a Sunday as I did, a half hourly bus service runs from Nottingham station, it's the 10C with Nottingham City Transport. Admission is free but you have to pay for train rides. Adult fare is 12 pounds.
p. w.
The poor sister of the nearby railway at Loughborough but the small volunteer workforce are doing a great job. There are several other attractions in the vicinity and a good park.
V. T.
Excellent day out for the whole family. We went on the train ride. It was very reasonable price and the journey was really good fun.
We will go again.
d. h.
Awesome little place, great for toddlers, great little play park, model trains and miniature ride on railway. Excellent value for money, way too cheap TBH 50p a ride on the miniature railway.
R. B.
Explore the inner geek with vintage trains and busses. Great few hours for all ages. Lovely place that's run by volunteers, funded by donations and passion lives.
P. K.
This was for a grandchild's first experience of the Santa Express. We all loved every minute and a big thank you to all the staff that keep these old trains running.

J. M.
A preserved railway set in the old Ruddington military depot. There are steam and diesel train rides along the old Great Central railway towards Loughborough as far as the Brush works, but will soon be extended to Leicester North on the GCR main line. The railway restores locomotives and rolling stock back to full working order and to an excellent standard. There are heritage road vehicles on display and there are minature railways for children to ride on. All in all an excellent day out for all the family
B. D.
Great fun place to visit. Have a go on the miniature railway. Free parking! Cafe and toilets also on site.
K. M.
Well run and interesting travel into the past. Will be even better when the two halves of the line are connected next year, allowing alighting at Loughborough and all the way to Birstall in Leicester.
C. T.
