Reviews of Nottingham War Memorial Gardens

Love Victoria gardens, it’s like a second home. I have spent many hours enjoying walking my dog and sun bathing. X
T.
Its a great place to walk whatever the weather but it's also a peaceful place to sit in the summer.
G. M.
Serene and scenic garden. Great place to relax. Also take a stroll or jog along the Victoria Embankment.
L. H.
A very pleasant park, we enjoy coming to enjoy the view and calm our nerves)
M. H.
This area is literally like my back garden😄. Very nice place to have a walk and take your mind off things, have a picnic, study, etc.
If there could be a STRICT rule and fine on dog owners then that would be wonderful..... I get very cautious when I see people let their dogs do their business then don't clean up after them!!
p. b.
Beautiful gardens in the process of having a little makeover.
R. G.
Not sure the memorial is going to last. Already looks ropey in places. Shame for the design as it's an important monument.
c. w.
It was lovely to find the name of my husband's uncle.
The lack of maintenance is very sad. There were weeds growing all round the site. If it was to be left to go wild then poppies would have been more appropriate. I'm sure it wouldn't take long to tidy up the memorial itself.
It took a lot of time and money to create this to honour the dead of WW1 it seems a shame to spoil it for want of a bit of care.

We love this place. Since the lockdown the council has made most of the embankment pedestrians and bicycles only. So it’s great to walk the dog, and visit the memorial. It’s a very moving tribute and we leave flowers every year to remember those no longer with us.
The gardens to the rear are beautiful and well kept. There’s a statue of Queen Victoria and lovely fountains. Lots of squirrels and ducks, a very peaceful and serene place.
Every year on remembrance Sunday there is a service held and wreathes laid.
This year they projected poppies onto the structure at night. Very beautiful.
K. W.
Lovely gardens and wonderful memorial of queen victoria statue and memorial wall of the world war soldiers who lost there lives and pond which could do with cleaned Ng but you can see the goldfish swimming around near the top and plenty of families and people sitting or walking around enjoying the scenery of rose and flower beds aswell .😁
B. R.
Nice place to walk!
D. P.
Beautiful walk alongside the river.
R. F.
We go to the riverside festival every year and it's always a fab day out 😊. Lovely grounds to walk around aswell as the usual rides/food stalls and arts and crafts marquees ..there's lots of activities to take part in. Never made it til the fireworks but have been told they're spectacular. The music stages are also great to go and chill by,lots of great live music! Would recommend to all ages 👍

Nice b
Venue to visit. Gardens are attractive with local cafe and park for the kids. Nearby grassland perfect for a run about / social game of football etc. Opposite the river Trent which is perfect for a walk or run.
A nice place to visit and if good weather a perfect day trip.

This area and the surrounding parts are considered one of the most beautiful areas of Nottingham, as it possesses the most beautiful natural elements of water, greenery, beautiful buildings and green spaces. Also great for walking lovers. In the summer, it is the most wonderful place to spend time with your children, as it has playgrounds for children
A. P.
Very quiet place for walks or just sitting on a bench.
M. t. S.
The area was so dead and the pool uncleaned and left no water fountain was working so sad
M. T.
Very substantial memorial gates with ornate plaques for several wars. Gardens and fountains also peaceful and relaxing
H.
A nice place to just sit and think.
G. F.
Not much to do here but it's very lovely great scenery
R. L.
Nice place to sit and muse on a bench, saw a heron settle neer the pond one time.
L. B.
This is a beautiful place to walk picnic or just simply relax it's right by the river Trent with the Victoria war memorial and a beautiful Memorial Garden too ~ complete with ornate pond.
It's beautiful all year round plenty of parking if you just want to sit in the car.
A. A.
Peaceful, looked after and a beautiful little hidden gem just to sit and chill. In spring, summer and autumb the trees are a delight to look at full of flowers, colours and birds. One of my favourite hideaways since I was a child in the 70s.
J. M.
Beautiful park just a stones throw away from the river Trent, and Trent bridge. The park has a pond/water feature in the middle. Great place for a picnic etc, or even, as today, a great place to have your wedding photos.
W.
Improvements are slowly coming along in the garden but drab, the Memorial is splendid and remembers the fallen respectfully. Always a good crowd on remembrance Sunday. The last one had overzealous security man stopping me reading the tributes for some reason, he had no respect for the sacrifice that the young men had given.
T. “. M.
Lovely space, no traffic noise or litter.
D. B.
Very underrated part of Nottingham. The grounds are well kept and very nice. There is also a fairly large kids play area a short walk further down the river and the river it's self to keep you entertained.
J. D.
Very tranquil. The plants here look like they could do with some more care sometimes but it's quite a large place close to the river with public toilets.
m. S.
Lovely and quiet most time in these times...
H.
Beautiful place, looking forward to seeing the finished works. Knocked off points for making you pay and display to get out your car and enjoy the view! Bad move by the council
V.
Very beautiful and tranquil. I look forward god willing to go there in the warmer months when the flowers bloom.
They are currently doing a lot of refurbishment to the park.
N. T.
Beautiful. Extra special as my Great-Grandfather is commemorated here.
A. W.
Its a well kept war memorial at the side of the river Trent, its a nice walk and is flat, you can park along the front in places.
Take a boat rude feed the ducks and a kiddies park and paddling pool.
L. L.
Plenty of places to sit down and relax. Loads of bins for litter and dog waste. Lovely place to sit and watch the squirrels
A. C.
As war memorials go its the best one in Nottingham. It has a floral garden attached to it... the river is quite beautiful when viewed through a happy disposition.
J. B. (.
This is such an excellent attraction for the the North and South of Nottingham. Recently held the relay triathlon from nations around the globe. A excellent venue for families and visitors to attend
V. H.
Nice garden loverly for a walk
C. P.
Nottingham tribute to those lost in the two world wars and military action. A big white edifice and gates. Beside it is a more recent memorial to all lost in WWI with names of all casualties that the County Council have records for by year and room for those missing casualties they are only just discovering
M. H.
Came across this place for the first time on little stroll down the river and I'm very much pleased that I did. A lovely garden and monument which brings me great pride to call Nottingham my home.
D. H.
Great place, didn't know it existed!!
N. S.
A fitting remembrance tribute to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice
M. J.
Gorgeous gardens and it's nice to see that something historic is still being tended too. However the toilets are no longer available and last I checked they need refurbishing
H.
Nice place to hang out on a warm day. Take a picnic and relax, watch the swans glide by on the river. Take a walk to the River Bank pub / restaurant
N. G.

Nice place to relax and pay respects to the war dead, especially with the new WWI war memorial. Needs better maintenance, the Queen Victoria statue needs restoring.
l. s.

Very pleasant spacious gardens with trees shrubs much accessible lawns. SAfe for children to explore as long as they are watched. A replacement for the large weeping willow which was removed due to honey fungus, would be a good addition.
