Reviews of J.R.R. TOLKIEN Grave

Grave is signposted in places. The Google maps pin isn't accurate, so just go into the cemetery and look for it.

It’s a basic cemetery so don’t expect anything fancy, but if you’re a fan it’s nice to have the opportunity to pay your respects.

I was looking forward to visit this place. There were clear sign on the graveyard that lead you to Tolkien's grave. There were other tourists coming & going. For a fan it is certainly a beautiful place to visit.

Beautiful place, easy to find. Unfortunately graveyard was cloased, but I can understand that, because it was 1 am. Amazing watermelon!

The location tag is actually a pretty accurate marker of where his son’s grave is. Once you’ve found it, Tolkien’s grave should then be at your 4 O’clock, about 5-10 meters away!

Google maps are slightly off on the location. If you're visiting Oxford you can easily get to the Wolvercote Cemetery by bus from the centre of town. Within the cemetery there are signs that will guide you to Tolkien's grave.

A fine place to pay respects to a great author of the 20th century

A special place for a very special author. Tucked away amongst many other graves lies Tolkien and his wife Edith. People regularly leave a little item on the grave, but it is kept neatly. Be mindful that this is a graveyard and not just a tourist attraction, so please be respectful when approaching.

Very interesting, I didn't immediately realize that I would find his grave here.

Wenig spektakulär…interessiert wird’s wenn man sich den geschichtlichen Rahmen vor Augen führt.

Not very spectacular...it gets interesting when you look at the historical context.
