Reviews of Museum of Oxford
Perfect place to understand and appreciate more about the history of Oxford city that brings the uniqueness of Oxford today. Small museum but full of facts and interactive activities for kids. Located in the Town Hall. Free entrance. My kids (range 4 to 14 yrs old) enjoy it, we spent 1.5 hours covering the whole museum.
Small museum relating to Oxford itself. If one used to live in the area many years ago is well worth a visit.
A fascinating place with friendly and helpful staff. Well worth a visit.
-Small
-Plenty of information
-Lovely building
-Nice gift shop
-Friendly staff
Recently redeveloped and it's full of interesting displays and interactives. As an Oxford local I was surprised at how much I didn't know before visiting. As a museum of the community in a (now) university town, MOX works a lot with social history, with lots of work with certain demographics but there are still archaeological displays for certain periods.
Excellent time at the museum meeting all the characters and enjoying seeing our grandchildren learning about history thank you
I really enjoyed this museum. There was a lovely section about Alice in Wonderland. Also interesting to learn about Oxford as it was in mediaeval times.
Worth a visit entry is free good history about Oxford
Tiny but very friendly museum. Worth half an hour to visit. And don't skip the gift shop.
Very well laid excellent knowledgeable staff, great lgbq exhibition
Nice small museum, watching it in your own is not that special, if you ask someone there to explain you more you have hit a jackpot. So don't be afraid to ask. We got like a proper history Oxford and England tour from a nice lady working there. Would definitely recommend.
Perfect place to have a quick overview of the facts, events and important people of Oxfordshire .
It can be interesting for kids too .
Free entrance
Very interesting and lots to learn for all ages. Worth a visit.
Excellent, friendly staff. Small but very informative. Great creative, interactive use of technology.
A very informative museum about the history and development of Oxford with interesting interactive displays
I have been going to this museum since I was a kid and it's still as interesting now as it was then, don't take any notice of some of these reviews saying 'oxford could do better' it's not the size of the museum it's the wealth of information they have to offer and this LITTLE museum packs a lot into a tiny place! well worth visiting
Right now the museum is being renovated, but there is a micro museum you can still visit and what is there is quite interesting. When the renovation is done, it will most likely be very nice.
I've visited twice this year to see two amazing photography exhibits. This place is great if you want to visit and see amazing outlooks, this is also the best place if you want no know more about different things. Wonderful museum that will teach you in so many ways! The collectionHunterian consists of actual human body parts, animals, bones, and craniums, loads of human foetus and deformed vertebrae, frogs, mice stc.
Tiny museum that is very interesting. Not the easiest to find. It's listed as a top attraction but for what it is I feel there are better things to see if you're under time constraints.
Strange place; I could only find 2 rooms that made up the museum - did I miss some more perhaps? Oxford deserves a better museum. Very friendly staff though.
Took me back, lovely
A history museum in Oxford, covering the history of the City and University of Oxford. The displays include original artefacts, treasures from Oxford colleges and period room reconstructions, from prehistoric times onwards. Opened in 1975 in the former premises of the Oxford Public Library.
Small but very interesting museum about the history of Oxford. Definitely worth a visit.
You can only see some of the exhibits right now, due to extensions work in town hall but ask at the town hall shop to see what exhibits are on display in town hall
A nice small exhibit. The staff were really friendly.
Love this museum. Satisfies the Goldilocks criteria - not too big, not too small, just right
Interesting museum often overlooked but well worth a visit
Great, learn more about the two cities in one
Fantastic place to go to
But you need 2 days to see everything
👍👍
wonderful place to visit would definitely recommend to others 6/10
Smaller than envisioned but a very nice building.
Nice museum very friendly staff
The museum is getting a bigger, better home.
A surprise tucked within Town Hall! Rather random exhibits but all very interesting and from a modern-day inclusive perspective, as in, including stories beyond those we've already heard. I turned around and my mom was dressed as a 19-century suffragette, for example. Hi-tech interactive elements made this well worth a quick pop in on our way to the covered market.
Museum in Oxford that is one of the best we have been too in the country
Small with a wealth of information and interesting artifacts. Will be expanding soon.
ok
Interesting but severely limited until renovations complete 2020
Sadley a small bit of all the pieces are available because of construction
nice place with a interesting facts and objects 7/10
Currently tiny but what's there is very interesting
It was Ok.
I always like the historic of great townships.
Interesting collection of university and literary figures.
The museum is small, but it was a welcome respite from the busy streets on the day we visited! It has some interesting exhibits and information about Oxford past and present.
The lady at the counter was really helpful. She suggested some other great places to visit and even recommended a lovely place for lunch.
Good but needs more space
Small but very interesting
👍🏻
Interesting to see the museum.
Lovely small museum
Some good info about Local history. Although it has recently had a refurbishment and is totally different to the old museum I remember visiting with my school.
Too few exhibits as a museum
A fascinating journey through the history of Oxford
Lovely place for a visit
It has a very friendly staff
Lovely little museum hosted by the city hall (I believe), very cool collection with lots of great info about the town of Oxford. The staff were great, and very informative and helpful! The cafe in the building also has really yummy drinks, including Dandelion & Burdock Cordial!
Just ok
Small but interesting
Very nice
This place is gorgeous!

A small museum arranged thematically of Oxford's history. A nice visit to fill an hour but that really is the maximum you'll need. Some very interesting pieces included in the range
The museum consists of 2 rooms.
Interesting to see. Free admission.
We did not enter this museum, it was free but we did not have time.
Small but very interesting museum. It doesn't take long to do and it allows you to learn more about the city!
Very small, not very interesting, there are better ones. If you have time, visit it, but if your time is limited, forget it.
Few people visit its rooms when it is a very interesting place that is worth visiting to understand the history of this university city.
Nice museum, small but nice! My sons liked it!
A very small, but cozy museum with a lot of information.
Very impressive, I recommend a visit. The architecture is simply superb, the atmosphere is friendly.
It's free and worth a visit
Small, only one room, but it could be much bigger
Beautiful space that has been recently refurbished. It looks absolutely lovely and a huge improvement from before. The museum is interesting and the gift shop is a great place to pick up some Oxford souvenirs
Little to see, what is interesting is the building where it is located
Closed for renovation
Full of interesting artifacts
It's worth seeing.
A very brief visit but a huge change now that investment had been made in the building & the displays. Lots of interactive activity & the displays are excellent
Went to a memory makers event with a friend on Monday 21st March which was very good. Would have been 5 stars but I arrived late, sat at the back and couldn't hear properly.
