Reviews of Oxford Botanic Garden
V. P.
A place of beauty. We only had a few hours to spare and this is the place we elected. The gardens and plants are lovely and ample space to walk around. Several greenhouses accommodate some of the hotter climate plants. The outdoor gardens are vast. My 7 year old son had a great time and we also had a picnic on the grass areas surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers. Recommend this place if you enjoy gardening.
M. T.
Actually it's a great botanical gardens with lots of interesting areas. It sits on a sloping aspect with views of the city beyond. Very well laid out with something for everyone. The Bonsai trees are amazing, but easily missed if you don't follow the map.
Ancient, bustling, vibrant gardens. Time flied as we wondered through the hundreds types of plants. Plus, kids loved the woody playground. We enjoyed our afternoon. We will visit again
I. M.
A lovely place to spend your morning or afternoon.
Generally takes about an hour to an hour and a half to walk through the full gardens and view all the exhibits.
The greenhouse/glass houses contain plant species from across the world in temperature controlled environments and is definitely worth seeing!
I really expected the landscaped area of the garden to be a little bigger and have more exhibits.
We went through on a Sunday and their coffee cart was closed - thought Sunday would be a popular day for the gardens.
Oxford university students get free entry upon presentation of their student card so don’t buy a ticket online if you’re a student.

Nice botanical gardens with lots of interesting areas. It is on a sloping aspect with views of the city beyond. Very well laid out with something for everyone.
Ancient, bustling, vibrant gardens. Time flied as we took a stroll through the hundreds types of plants. We enjoyed our afternoon. There is an entry fee to enter the garden. However rose garden is outside and free of entry charge in the memory of medieval Jewish Cemetery. We will visit again

I loved our visit on a Saturday in July. We walked about 10 minutes from nearest public car park which was so weird as a one way system for entrance and exit 😄 The Garden is very well maintained and there are plenty of variety of the plants. Watching boat riders was fun too. The small cafe was good. Tickets prices are reasonable.
R. G.
It's as lovely as you would expect a botanical garden to be. I went in the morning and it wasn't crowded. In fact, it's as if there was a deliberate effort by all the visitors there to remain tranquil as to not disturb the flowers and plants.
It's beautiful. Corridors and aisles of beautifully displayed flowers in an assortment of colours with perfumes that will make you smile.
F. S.
Loved this place. Plenty to see and do. Entrance fee very reasonable. Informative and relaxing. Great escape from hustle and bustle of city. Only downfall was nowhere on site to buy food (did have drinks concession with cakes however)but they do allow patrons to go and buy food elsewhere and then come back into gardens once ticket has been purchased. Well worth a visit.
M. S.
I had a great time here. Nice place to relax.
Just by the River Cherwell. Interesting plant specimens. The greenhouses have different habitats- tropical, desert and so on.
Lots of shaded places to sit and take rest. University of Oxford students can enter free.
I don't know if it's worth buying tickets for.
C. H.
Loved the tropical glass houses.
These botanical gardens are well worth a visit if you are in Oxford city centre. The gardens run alongside the river so you can see the boats & punters meandering past.
The flower beds are filled to the brim with fine plants.
R. “. J. P.
The oldest botanical Garden in the UK is beautifully laid out with friendly staff and given the extreme hot weather we'd all experienced the previous week, surprisingly colourful.
The glasshouses whilst smaller in scale than some, were beautifuly maintained with a healthy and fascinating collection.
Great value for money!

I live in Oxford but only went to this place after being there for 14 years. This truly is a little gem in oxford. You can spend a whole day here without getting tired. Plenty of things to see and activities to do. Great place for picnic and to let the kids run around. Tickets were reasonable and there were discounted tickets for students. I would highly recommend this place especially if you live or are visiting Oxford.
S. G.
Visited here on Sunday and definitely worth the visit!
I walked around the entire gardens and the staff were friendly and helpful!
The disabled toilet was clean and spacious.
The greenhouses have a one way system in place as a heads up!
H. N.
A lovely soothing experience. Not massive, you can cover it all in 1-2 hours. Standard adult ticket for £6.30 and for £7 for the Gift aided ticket. Tickets are valid for multiple entries throughout the same day.
Would recommend the place.

The Botanic Gardens make for a wonderful visit whatever time of year, but spring in Oxford is particularly beautiful
From the steamy lily ponds and arid cacti glasshouses to the rolling lawns, trees and shrubbery you will find many different attractions. As well as quiet places to read a book or hold a picnic
The gift shop has great books and cards, while little food stall has coffee, soft drinks and ice cream
And don't forget, Oxford students can visit for free
J. M.
Great addition to Oxford, beautiful selection of well thought-out plants and structure.
Enjoyable place to visit.
In my opinion, I believe this place would benefit from a cafe and a shop where you can purchase a wider range of plants and gifts.
However, I still enjoyed the experience and the joy this beautiful garden brings, hence, uplifting and so good for the soul .
I truly believe this place is definitely worth a visit.
E. M.
Excellent day out, very affordable. Kids under 16 free. All day ticket, can leave and come back as many times as like during whole day that way you can see gardens in different time of day and different light as sun moves along. Oicknicks allowed on grass areas and nice coffee shop inside too. Loads to see, great for any generation.
C. P.
This was my first visit, despite visiting Oxford many times over the years. It was fascinating, even though it has been dry the plants and planting was fantastic. Do ask for a map of the garden when you buy your entrance tickets, they don't automatically hand them out. £7, concessions £6
D. W.
Lovely well maintained gardens and greenhouses with good signage. £7 entry fee but certainly worth it. Could easily take a book and sit in the shade on a hot day.
E. F.
Well worth a visit, lovely gardens, great glass houses. A lovely place for a picnic in the gardens or next to the river. Best take picnic in as you can only get drinks, cakes and ice-cream in the grounds.
N. B.
Amazing!! You can see rare species, and of course the grandchild of giant sequoia (redwood). ♡♡♡ There is always something interesting to learn, observe and enjoy. Don't miss it, if you're around!
T. B.
This place is beautiful. It’s so well maintained and everything has a sign. I will have to visit in summer or spring at least as I can only imagine how many flowers there would be x
You have to book in advance but I did it 5 minutes before going in . Very much worth the price !
T. S.
Beautiful botanical gardens, wide variety of flora with lots of information provided explaining history of the gardens and plants, uses, etc. Worth a visit whenever the weather is great. Some plants are seasonal too so catch them while you can.
A. J.
The Botanic Garden was founded in 1621 with a mission To promote the furtherance of learning and to glorify nature. In the almost 400 years since then, although many people and plants have been involved in the history of the Garden, we continue to educate as many people as possible about the importance of plants, to help conserve plants around the world and to support teaching and research at the University and beyond.
R. L.
An amazing and interesting array of plants - very well curated, labelled and laid out for both educational and recreational purposes. When we went, in May, the water lilies were in flower and looking stunning too!
J. N.
Impressive array of flora. Saw plants like the Venus fly trap and pitcher plant that I've never laid eyes on but pretty familiar with them due to Sir David Attenborough. If your in Oxford it's a must visit. £6 each to get in. But worth it. Recommended.
D. V.
Such a beautiful garden with well maintained signs and nicely showcased gardens. I love that as a oxford student you can go in for free. I especially love the glass houses and also the section where you can see commonly found vegetables and herbs histories! Would be interesting to have an app or some interactive element where while we are walking around we can try to find some plants of our interest or photo competition etc.. to make it even more interactive. Highly recommend :)
A. M.
A beautiful garden with a wide range of both formal and slightly less formal plantings. I visited in the spring and the spring bulbs and flowers looked lovely. I'd like to visit again in the summer to see the gardens in full bloom. There was a nice coffee cart and plenty of benches where you can sit for a while - for fans of Philip Pullman there is a bench at the back of the gardens which features towards the end of the His Dark Materials series.
J. T.
Well worth a visit if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Oxford for a couple of hours. Such a peaceful and tranquil place with some beautiful plants and flowers.
B. A. S.
Really nice, interesting, and educational experience. Totally recommended!
❤️🪴🌵🌴🌳🌲🍀🍃🌿🌱🌾🍁💮🌼🌻🏵️🌸🌺🌷🥀🌹💐
Loved in particular the carnivore plants and all the plants with leaves with lots of cool and colorful patterns.
G. B.
If you like exotic plants and flowers, it's a place worth spending a couple of hours, especially on a nice day when you can spend some time outside too. As far as I know, there is no parking available so you need to plan your journey accordingly.
H. M.
A hidden gem, somewhere I missed on my 1st, 2nd and 3rd! Visit to Oxford. Its size to price and overall beauty for what you pay for is by far better than Saville gardens. It has wonderful views of the river, its botanical life and is a plethora of hidden plantscapades. A place that connect the grace of gardens with the younger generations by allowing for interesting photography and tid bits of information! £6.30 for an adult ticket is worth it .
L. C.
Celebrating 400 years this year. Large herbaceous borders set in walled gardens. Lots of different varieties of perennials, shrubs and trees. Oxford Botanical Gardens has a dry garden, orchards, prairie walk and Hot houses. Plenty of seating dotted around, and a nice coffee vendor inside the grounds. Worth a visit anytime of the year
s. H.
Beautiful and very well kept. Loved all the different plant's in the green houses. Very interesting and informative.
E. B.
Really nice garden. We really enjoyed there that we even went second time. It's a nice place for a picnic or just for coffee and a nice book. Definitely going back there again.
A. W.
These gardens are lovely, so many varieties of plants and it has sections of herbs that are used in medicine with explanations. They also have large green houses with tropical plants in and extra large lily plants in that are strong enough to hold a small child. Its really lovely calm place. You can get tea and coffee there and the toilets are well kept and clean.
The price to enter was pretty reasonable under £5 for an adult.
W. L.
Terrific place to spend a few hours and relax, lots of plants from the UK, China, Japan, Europe etc.
A. J.
definitely go more towards spring/summer to see more things in bloom but the glass houses were gorgeous and informative
A. N.
Special. Just special. I really enjoyed my visit. I loved the greenhouse plants as well as all the other plants. And it was a treat to learn about the medicinal ones too. A great day out and I'd love to visit again and again!
S.
Very beautiful garden and definitely worth a visit. It’s calm, warm inside the greenhouse and very interesting. People are responsible and leave the plants alone and they look beautiful and looked after.
R. W.
Informative, friendly staff. Beautiful plants from all over the world. Tranquil place of beauty, history and botany.
M. Q.
We stayed here for quite a while, very beautiful and we had a look in the greenhouses, and many spots overlooking the river(hope you don’t get stung by bees during the stay)
k. h.
Spent a wonderful hour or so walking around the garden enjoying the plants and flowers. Highly recommended.
T. G. J.
Lovely afternoon here on a sunny afternoon in late July - great place to visit and just stroll around 😀 The plants are all very well labelled and with extra information explaining how they 'fit in' to the general plan. The paths are nice and easy but there's no 'no walking on the grass' - not on the actual beds no but if you want to lie down and grab a nap on the lawn areas no worries 😆 Plus you can watch the tourists punting and boating along the river - and falling in if you're lucky...as I almost saw! 😁
A. M.
I paid £6 (Adult) to come and visit Oxford Botanic Gardens. It is a quiet oasis in the busy City. Even in September there were still plenty lovely flowers to see and enjoy. The gardens are much bigger than they look and there are areas where you can have a seat and just relax. I particularly loved the dahlia's there were plenty varieties to see. I am glad I came it was a first visit for me and I would certainly return again.
T. D.
Good collection of plants and you can discover lots of new plants. Ticket charges is little higher but it is worth to visit.
S. R.
The indoor areas are a must to see the tropical plants! I had somehow missed them for years and just was wandering the outer areas. Lovely place to go, and it's well worth the time and entrance fee (£6ish for an adult, Oxford Uni IDs get in free.)
L. H.
A beautiful spot for a stroll. The gardens are gorgeous and everything has a label so you know what you are looking at! If you are a literary enthusiast then don't miss 'Will and Lyra's' bench from Pullman's Northern Lights trilogy. The girls in the entrance kiosk and shop were so lovely and polite. Sadly the same can't be said about a couple of the 'guides' leading groups on free tours. I appreciate we are still following COVID social distancing guidelines, but when you get snapped at to keep your distance, even though you are more than 2m away, I feel this is unnecessary and did spoil the tranquil nature of the visit.
M. C.
Spent a long afternoon wandering through these beautiful gardens. We had a fabulous time. It is such a beautiful place and it was all wheelchair accessible. (we didn't go in all of the glasshouses as some were closed for Covid reasons.) Do go if you can. You can Pre book tickets online.
M. B.
Very nice, well organised place. Interesting things to see. Cafetaria not great. Inexpensive (NOT their gin). Nice.
C. W.
Beautiful, well cared for, organised gardens and hot houses. A delight to walk round with many new in season flowers to enjoy.
Toilets are accessible and paths are good for pushchairs and wheelchairs if need be, some areas may not be suitable for them but you'll be able to see most areas. Little cafe and shop on grounds.
K.
Absolutely lovely, even on a rainy day. It is the oldest botanical garden in the UK, and it was lovely to attend the accompanying exposition "seeds to roots", in which a lot of background and early development of the gardens was expanded on. The show was quite small, but you could buy a few plants and a few lovely plant themed bits and pieces, including ceramic buttons with a range of flowers painted on them! There is also a small coffee and ice cream stand. Look forward to visiting again to see the gardens at a different time of the year!
A. S.
Gorgeous place to spend the day; don't even feel like you're in a bustling city when you're here.
M. W.
So nice...surprisingly peaceful considering u are in the middle if Oxford City. Loads of interesting plants to see. Lovely afternoon.
E. J.
Beautiful Gardens, with plenty in bloom even early in the year. You can do a lot in an hour, or take it slow maybe up to 3 hours.
J.
Lovely place to visit and good value admission prices. A few of the greenhouses are closed for maintenance until towards the end of Feb which was a shame but that was mentioned on the website and it was still a wonderful experience.
D. G.
The botanical gardens was peaceful and a nice break from a busy schedule of walking everywhere.
M. H.
Taken nearly 30 years to
Visit, beautiful gardens and worth a visit.
j. c.
A wonderful array of plants and open spaces and shady patches on a warm summer's day to settle down and have a picnic.
R. G.
Beautiful garden with an ever changing selection of beautiful plants arranged in easy to understand selections. Some rare and unusual, some great inspiration for the garden.
M. W.
A gem in the centre of a fantastic city. Interesting and surprising. Lovely place to relax and enjoy the riverside. On the day we went there were displays and activities by Uni students and staff inviting young and old to discover more about plants, science and the way they benefit us. Amazing.
B. T.
Really nice place, worth the entrance fee (£6.5 adult)
D.
Fascinating collection and a very relaxing space to saunter around. Paid for the day but will take out an annual membership on my next visit; this is a place to revisit across the seasons.
M.
Very lovely experience, we walked all of the paths and looked at pretty much everything, it took us about two hours with a coffee in the middle of it. The small coffee shop there is a little expensive at £6.50 for a small coffee, tea and water. Highly recommended to book in advance!
J. J.
The Oxford Botanic Gardens are the oldest in the UK. Great selection of plants and flowers from around the world. If you're in Oxford and have a couple of hours spare, it's well worth the visit.
E. P.
The garden is great, especially the more exotic plants they've got
K. W.
The oldest botanical gardens in the UK founded on July 25th 1621.Lovely gardens with lots of varieties of plants.Unfortunatly the cacti house was closed.
J. c.
What a beautiful place to stroll around the garden's,we also had our picnic in there to and you could get a tea or coffee and there was a loo to.
G. H.
Absolutely stunning, with lots of fantastic information about the history of the gardens and the plants they contain. I particularly enjoyed the "Foods that Changed the World" area and the medicinal beds. Thoroughly recommend.
G. L.
Lovely place to pause, read, have a picnic and bonus of the church bells on Sunday.
J. S.
I visited purely as a pilgrimage to Will and Lyra's bench (from His Dark Materials) but stayed for the beautiful garden, peaceful ambience, the lovely orchard and learned a few things about plants and crops in the UK in the process. My daughter also learned that ducks eat apples; the ones here do anyway.
D. B.
Great day out, well worth it,keeps places like this going..thankyou.
F. H.
I loved this place. Great gardens and a very good biodiversity field at the back (I wish the college's did the same given they are places of science rather than cut lawns). The reason I gave it 3* is because this place is not at all child friendly no kids climbing frames/activities (Birmingham has one). So for a 'city' that's really bad. Otherwise it's a good visit.
O. N.
Nice beautiful garden
Very good place for relaxing
absolutely worth the trip
Clean well taken care of
Nice Fresh air
Good for friends good for couple for a romantic time together
M. L.
Quite small but lovely picnic spot and must see if you have a spare hour. Great for a stroll.
M. I.
Passing through Oxford and had to visit the botanical garden.
It is smaller than places like Kew, but there are so many different plants and it is all really well maintained!
Layout is fantastic and staff are really friendly
Would come back again :)
J. N. (.
Great park, a lot to see, really calm, loved it. You can spend about an hour and a half (even 2+ hours depending on your pace)
A. A.
Love walking around the Oxford Botanic Garden. summer time is wonderful.
X. H.
Beautiful botanoc garden with great collection of plants.
e.
Great variety of plants. We went on a Sunday and it was free entry. Nice walk around. Definitely go to the indoor greenhouse
L. E.
Spent a lovely two hours going around these wonderful gardens. Take your time exploring the wonderful plants and shrubs. There are plenty of seats for you to sit and relax and ask yourself why is my garden not like this.
H. S.
Spent the afternoon here. Enjoyed our walk around, they're pushchair friendly. . The gardens are gorgeous it was a lovely way to escape the busy city for a few hours.
A. B.
UK's oldest botanic garden (400 yrs). A worth place to visit. A small car parking is nearby.
B.
Lovely and peaceful. Plenty if space to sit and take in the scenery. Coffee hut was a great add-on.
M. M.
It's been wonderful to experience 400 years of history of this garden with over 6000 species from around the world. You will need to book online before getting here. There was literally no waiting time. Its a must see and explore place for all nature loving folks.
P. B.
Online booking cost £9 for 2 oap rate. We spent a lovely 3 hours there. Some of the specimens are magnificent. The colour coordination spectacular. The plant variety outstanding. The best value for money garden we've visited. A must if you visit Oxford and live plants.
C. I.
Beautiful oasis in the centre of Oxford. Impressive Arch at the entrance in honour of the founding father of this oldest physic garden in England, which was opened in the times of King CharlesI.
J. P.
The most wonderful historic garden next to the River Cam
J. L.
The current dry spell hasn't done it any favours and even the Mediterranean plants were struggling. Even so it was a very relaxing and pleasant day to stroll around.
My only criticism was the labelling. I know it isn't a garden centre but I would have found it helpful to have the plant's common English name displayed along side the Latin.
l.
Lovely place to visit if you are in Oxford. We were there end of May and everything was blooming.
Very nice place to walk around or just to sit down on one of the benches and to enjoy your time in nature.
I. B.
Free for university of Oxford and Brookes students ! It offers the loveliest and calmest green sanctuary with a little path next to the river. With beautiful photo opportunities amongst the trees, well maintained gardens and various stone structures it is the loveliest place to be. The greenhouses are clearly incredibly well planned, cared for and maintained. They are wonderful to explore. The gardens and trees are gorgeous and the benches offer the perfect place for a picnic lunch and the fountains are incredibly peaceful to listen to.
R. P.
A bit disappointed to be honest as they advertised toilets and cafe, so we went in for a drink and sit overlooking the gardens and river but it was closed and looked more like a mobile coffee cart. I enquired at the office and was told the person who operates this was off and we could go out and make a picnic then come back inside, so feel they should have put up a notice or told us before charging us to go in. The toilets were small but at least they were working.
G. K.
Definitely worth a visit. Was a quiet Thursday so almost felt like we had the place to ourselves. The team are managing the CV19 restrictions well with one way systems and there is plenty of space to move about. Interesting to see plants grouped into family types. Great way to spend a few hours.
I. T.
Nice and strange plants to see! Nice experience in Oxford🇬🇧
S.
Lovely Botanical garden, lots of varied interest and greenhouses were good. The homemade ice cream is a good (and tasty) added touch. Not 5* because the gift shop was a bit pricey!
S.
First time I’ve been here and I liked it
A.
-Stunning
-Lovely
-Amazing
-Cute gift shop
-Reasonably priced to enter
N. B.
We enjoyed these botanic gardens they are very peaceful, not as large as some we’ve seen but they’re very pleasant. They had a good explanation of the history of plant species. We found the medicinal plant section very interesting with many of the sources of the drugs I’ve had for cancer treatment on display. There was also a cute little robin who entertained us as we sat on a wooden bench. He seemed quite tame and sang his pretty song to us as we rested.
M. L.
I love everything about this place and try to visit at different seasons. To start with the conservatory is a treat with its families of unusual pelargonium, it's stractocarpus etc. I always look out for the Buddha fingers lemon tree. And so it goes on. The amazing tropical and desert hothouses, the garden itself with its dividing tall wall draped with climbers; all the perfectly placed benches one can use for a rest or picnic. At times one is lucky enough to watch the gardeners at work. The variety of plants from all over the world in the borders is so interesting. I never tire of that garden.
S. K.
Lovely botanical gardens. Good for a stroll, it’s owned by the university & as such is very diverse.
C. C.
Beautiful gardens. Well maintained & cared for. Amazing selection of plants & lots of useful information too. Staff were helpful. Well worth a visit.
K. H.
Lovely garden, bursting with colour and interesting plants and facts in the greenhouses
R. D.
Oxford Botanic Garden is really lovely, even in the winter. I went in early December, and there was still a lot to do and see.
A particular highlight is the collection of glass houses—where else can you take a world tour in your backyard? Plants from Ecuador, Peru, Australia and more all live inside these tropical capsules. One house even has a pond with lily pads. If you look close enough, you’ll see tiny koi fish swimming inside it.
Then, of course, there’s all the explanatory signage and art. Kids (and adults) can learn quite a bit just by wandering through the grounds. The Cheshire Cat even lives on them! The gift shop is well stocked with lots of little odds and ends. I found a pack of embroidered coat buttons which was absolutely adorable. There’s also TOAD gin and recipe books, gardening supplies, and other gifts.
I had delayed going to the Garden for a long time, as I live in Ox. I always shrugged it off as kind of touristy. But now I see what all the hype is about! You’ve got to give it a go.
P. C.
Recently l visited here and spent a few hours exploring this garden. I found the gardens to be very relaxing, and it was a great place to escape from the city! The plants/flowers throughout the garden were beautiful and very interesting. I would recommend a trip here.
M. P.
People with disabilities and their carers can go in for free and it was enjoyable. Also, try some of the locally made ice cream sold there.
T. W.
Wonderful gardens. I went here on a miserable drizzling day and it really brightened my day. At 401 years, it's Britain's oldest botanic garden and I couldn't help thinking of so many people having gone before.
X. I.
I went here just for the Dark material's bench but I ended up enjoying this garden much more than the Kew gardens. It's small but beautiful and has a lot of good explicative letters
X. M.
Of course you have to visit if you coming to the city but I didn't understood the price. Some areas needs more care and I missed all the cactus area because is close for visitors.
The Chichester garden is far better and is free. There is so much potential in this place. I hope they do an improvement in the future.
S. Y.
A beautiful little garden to explore if you're visiting the area! We visited here in Autumn, so the air was frosty and the sun was shining, highlighting the gorgeous warm colours of the trees and shone through the glasshouses. I would definitely visit it again, perhaps to get a little peace and quiet or just wander around and study the plants and their differences more closely!
W. E.
Peaceful, quiet space in the city. I love to sit by the fountain. Also, the glass houses are fascinating. If you live in or near Oxford it's cheaper to buy an annual pass if you intend to visit more than five times a year. Check out the website to discover what plants you can expect to see during the various seasons.
L. O.
Lovely place to wander around. Short walk from Oxford City centre. Sweet little gift shop. Pop up cafe very busy
p. p.
It would have been 5 stars but we were looking forward to looking in the green houses at the tropical plants but they were all locked, if we had known this beforehand we would have postponed our trip till later in the year.
B. L.
Verdict - would return: to visit the glasshouses that were closed due to Covid
Liked - the variety!
Disliked - n/a
Other comments - can’t wait for everything to be in full bloom!
M. T.
This is a great place to visit and easy to reach from the City centre. Quiet and secluded next to the River Cherwell there's a wide range of well maintained plants and trees from around the world. Some beds arranged by botanic family but others with themes such as medical specialties. Worth visiting often but especially during spring and summer. Note that the Arboretum isn't on the same site.
T. N.
Really impressive green house section. The outdoor area was enjoyable but not the best right now, I assume due to the recent heat we've had
P. G.
Hundreds of different plants in outside gardens and a few greenhouses. It's put together very pretty and is totally worth the £7 entrance fee.
a. h.
Amazing place to relax especially for families
C. H.
A small but very beautiful botanical gardens. Set next to the River Cherwell it is a pleasure to walk around and admire all the amazing plants. Especially so in summer when all the flowers are in full bloom. A delight
I. G. O.
Beautiful well maintained and bountiful garden with lots of unique flowers, trees and all sorts of plants. Tickets for adults cost around 5.74 ponds and there are discounts for elderly, disabled or students. There are also greenhouses in the garden where you can find unique tropical plants. It's not a huge garden, we've covered all of the grounds in 45 minutes.. you can go faster though. Overall beautiful and very nice!
E. S.
Beautiful English gardening 😍👍
J. C.
The botanic garden is amazing, and I went in Winter! So I can't imagine how beautiful it is during Summer. The garden is not too big but really complete with all the green house. You see it all in one hour.
N. M.
What a treat, an oasis in the city centre. Tranquil and beautiful. You can easily spend there 45-60 minutes, just looking at the plants, but can have a picnic by the river and really take it in
W. S.
Absolutely stunning gardens
J. D.
Unfortunately I got the opportunity to visit the Garden now, in Dicember. There were obviously no flowers in the garden outside.
However visiting the greenhouses was amazing.
I fell in love with all the plants and flowers there, what a colourful sight.
I'll visit the garden again on summer, I want to fully enjoy this enchanting place.
J. H.
Lovely treasure of a garden close to the town centre. Very good collection of plants, flowers and shrubs. Unfortunately several of the greenhouses were closed during Covid 19 pandemic. Prices could have been cheaper but still good value nevertheless.
K. M.
Not very much to see , the garden itself is quite small . You can get coffee and a snack inside and pick up a boat for punting but wouldn't recommend as a top attraction
M. R.
Very nice botanical garden that is close to 400 years old. Compact, being located right in the city centre, yet it has a large diversity of species on display! Could get a nice cup of Jericho Traders' coffee there too if you are lucky!
S. C.
I visited there, entrance fee is about £6 but I don't think it's worth for my money. I expected to see more blooming trees and other things. It's not so big and nothing special this time (in March) . I might go in the wrong season. I recommend to visit other places instead if you have to pay. By the way, the staff is nice. These are all some good pics I got from here.
R. O.
We went on one of the afternoon free tours, it was great, very interesting. Beautiful place even in the current dryness!
G. D. W.
What a peaceful place! I greatly enjoyed wandering around, admiring the gorgeous flowers and magnificent trees. Text panels around the area were informative and interesting. Greatly recommended.
E. F.
Absolutely beautiful garden. The layout is really nice for walking and there was a little cafe in the garden for a break. The variety of plants made the garden a unique treat for a Sunday outing. The price of entrance was reasonable.
S. H.
Beautiful city centre spot by the river & breath of fresh air with gorgeous grasses, plants, flowers, herbs, fruit, vegs.. Wonderful way to spend a couple of hours on a Summery day with a friend. Yesterday was Alice Picnic from 1pm to 4pm with plenty of happy children, many with face paint & ice-creams.
H. I.
Lovely location by the river. Beautiful planting displays and various glass houses. Nice spot to take a book or a sandwich for lunch. Went on a Sunday morning but not busy for Oxford. Might get busier in the afternoon. Beautuful oasis in the heart of Oxford.
D. R.
An amazing place.! You have the opportunity to see and find out about plants from all around the world. Very well kept, the staff is lovely and helpful. The weather was incredibly nice so i was able to enjoy the inside and outside gardens.
A. K. N. A.
You can see Plenty of plants and flowers with name in this garden
C. N.
Amazing range plant life to show and also a hugely historical part of oxford, especially when it comes to education and research! Especially impressive in the summer. The one thing I wish there was more of was info on each of the plants. All round a great place and I feel really privileged to have it on my doorstep.
N. S.
Take a tour! The botanical gardens were so breathtaking to take in. It was refreshing to see the plant wall and the medicinal plants and to learn about the history of the gardens!
A. P.
I went to the garden in the winter and while I could easily imagine how beautiful it would have been in the spring or summer, it was quite lovely. The greenhouses had plenty to look at it and take pictures of you. You have to go towards the back to find the bench mentioned in His Dark Materials book but you'll know which one it is as soon as you see it.
T. P. A.
Loved all the fall colours outside, also loved the big Monstera inside. Also the pond inside one of the glasshouses was amazing!! I could spend hours there .
The squirrels outside were harvesting for winter which was cute. Definitely coming back in summer. Was a bit upset that we couldn't go in all the greenhouses but maybe that's because I'm a very curious person with a huge love for aroids.
Z.
Such a beautiful big garden. My friends and I learned a lot from the information points with plants explaining their uses, region of growth and full name. Would highly recommend for anyone who’s looking for a quiet place to explore and get lost in.
A. H.
What a beautiful place!! Very well done! The layout is nice and a beautiful place to relax! I loved laying on the grass by the river! They also do occasional events, which are fun to attend!
A. K.
What a wonderful place this is. A true refuge for nature and quietness in the middle of the city (unless kids start running around trampling everything in their path). There are numerous exotic plant species in the glass houses and plenty of more local varieties outdoor - some with attached signboards with interesting stories about them. I particularly like the artificial meadow - it's full of various flowers, grass and it is truly buzzing alive with hundreds of bees, butterflies and other pollinators. The whole garden is at the bank of the river Cherwell, which only adds to its charm. I love this place for relaxation. I do recommend visiting if you seek shelter from the city's hustle and bustle or if you are a passionate botanist. You will be satisfied I am sure.
M. D.
Lovely place if you are into plants and nature. Tickets must be booked online due to Covid. Social distancing measures are in place.
If you are into travel and nature, feel free to give me a follow on instagram: @ruby_sunday
L. S.
O loved it! I visited a lot of botanical Gardens, but this one is just History, history and beautiful plants. If you are in Oxford you need to see this, its a must, and you will enjoy it!
s. n.
If you love nature and colors, you should visit oxford botanic garden. The place is unique and ticket allows you multiple entry for the day. You can spend as much time as possible, the canal side is beautiful.
Z. C.
Small for so many plants, not yet time to visit, maybe in 2-3 weeks after blooming and its gonna be allow inside green houses
S. B.
Beautiful garden on Oxford University campus. This is a great place to come out and get some fresh air, go for a walk or other fun outdoor activities. I had the pleasure of walking through the gardens in my visit to Oxford and I was fortunate to have come on a day of perfect warm sunny weather, I truly enjoyed it.
C. S.
Worth paying the entrance fee well looked after gardens. Due to the entrance fee a nice peaceful relaxing place
A. G.
On a sunny day this is a lovely place to walk around. They have benches to sit and enjoy the smells of the flowers, chirps of the birds and splashes of the fountain. The conservatory has unique plants, like a tree from Madagascar, ferns, cactuses and a giant lemon tree.
M. T.
Best place to start the day in Oxford. Countless species of plants and flowers arranged like to look like a small eden. Free apples in the season 🤪
M. B.
If you're a botanical lover, you're gonna love it! Could have stayed there all afternoon.
A. T.
The oldest garden in the UK! Very peaceful! Lewis Carrol wrote his Alice in wonderland by sitting in this garden, and i bet i saw the tree near which that rabbit was passing by! Was fascinated by researches that are done by students using the plants growing in the garden.
V. R.
My 3rd time here and I brought my mum for her birthday. Even though there were not many flowers the snow drops were beautiful. Can't wait to visit again in the spring. X
M. L. S.
Lovely place to hang out especially during this sunny summer and spring. Go there and picnic, enjoy some good time with friends and family. Try to spot the chechire cat from Alice in the wonderland AND the mandrake from Harry potter movie! ;)
C. D.
Booked on line a time slot to visit the Garden. Maybe it is in Autumn, the plants are at the late ages. Maybe should visit it in the summer.
M. Z.
Lovely sunny day looking at plants and admiring the oldest botanical gardens in the country.
C.
One of the oldest botanical gardens in England. Beautiful glasshouses with distinct themes.
L. D.
Lovely gardens and indoor greenhouses are outstanding with lots to see. This gave us some great ideas for indoor plants at home
M. E.
Interesting botanic gardens that is the oldest one in Europe. The gardens are organised on broad themes. It's not very large so it's good for a short visit, there are several greenhouses, and the garden runs alongside the river where you can witness some amateur punting. There are a couple food vans, small cafe, ice cream stand. There are numerous events in the calendar that are child friendly. Most things are labelled and there are historically important plants, and good explanations of the importance of various plants in the development of man and its effects on diet, trade, and development of man. Recommended.
W. U.
Was really nice but was alot smaller that I thought and the cafè is a trailer and don't serve you cold drinks.
Was very good except that next time I would bring some picnic food as it has nice bits of grass shaded of not to enjoy you're lunch.
A. R.
Most beautiful and well arranged botanical garden we have been to. A large and lovely variety, without a need to walk miles between interest points. Definitely worth a visit
S. P.
It's a nice place, you could easily spend about an hour walking around. The greenhouses are amazing, you get to see a variety of plants from around the world. Students get a concessionary ticket of £5.
T. H.
Unfortunately they don't take cash , only saw 2 glass houses one is really awesome I will add some pictures
I was expecting more as I have previously been to plumpton botanical college and that was set out really well.
J. M.
If you like forma & flora with a bit of historical architecture definitely worth the price of entry (£5.00 as of September 2021). A nice peaceful space in the city.
A. F.
Lovely peaceful gardens to wander round in the centre of Oxford. Fab little coffee cart selling great coffee too.
B. M.
Great that the Botanical Gardens are open during lock down. But given that all the hot houses are closed and really there are only crocuses to see the entrance fee of over £6 per person looks steep
C. R.
Not big, but very cute garden. Lovely flowers and trees 😍
N. K.
Beautiful space. Free for some university students (check online) but worth the entrance fee even if you have to pay! Bring a book or some friends and enjoy the peace and natural beauty.
M. B.
Beautifully presented gardens in lovely condition. Even for someone who finds gardens interesting for a maximum of 5 minutes, these gardens were able to capture my interest for well over an hour. Such a variety for plants with helpful information boards and a very detailed map. A must visit in Oxford. Can't wait to visit again in a different season.
K. C.
A beautiful and informative garden set in a fabulous context - bordered by the River Cherwell and with the backdrop of Magdalen college with its iconic bell tower. The plants are well labelled and laid out in a logical but attractive way, which is both a pleasure to enjoy and instructive to aid understanding.
D. H.
Went in summer what a lovely place to visit, superb well laid out gardens. No need to advance book as website states, just turn up and pay.
M. H.
Beautiful and large variety of plants, especially the medicinal section. Wonderful setting and extremely reasonably priced.
A. R. Y.
Beautiful place, worth the entry, very peaceful and beautiful flowers
P. R.
This visit of mine was kind of blessing in disguise. I finished my work and thought of visiting this place. Located in one of the posh area and a small well managed area. The ticket price is reasonable as compared to the size of garden. You can finish your visit within half an hour to all day depending on your interest.
The garden is basically established and maintained by OU for research and probably conservation purpose. It has several large taxonomical beds of particular interest for Taxonomists. The rest is for all enthusiasts. Rock garden, the plants that changed the world, tropical house and many more are there of general interest.
Probably the smallest coffee and ice cream bar can be seen here. The toilet are nice looking but they need to be maintained. Few places have unrelated plant name tags. The people at entrance are nice and friendly. If you would like to go out and come in several times you may ask for a small ticket which gives you unlimited access for a day.
It's a nice and almost unseen corner almost at the center of high street. May be due to its name OXFORD UNIVERSITY Botanic Gardens people feel hesitation to enter so there are few people and the environment is quiet peaceful. Best place to read in silence. Old aged people were strolling around holding hand or with their grandchildren....it's relatively peaceful place at OXFORD.
Enjoy the garden! Don't forget to check the toilet whether it is fixed or not! :-)
S. A.
I'm sure it's better in spring time but it was very enjoyable visit still
J. A.
Very impressive collection of roses, different flowers, fruits, trees and plants etc.
t.
Bloomin marvellous - I recommend picking up a bottle of the Physic Gin afterwards - who says alcohol can’t be good for the health??? 😁
N.
I like this place, a variety of flowers and plants there even is apple trees , its such a clean environment and much to look at 😁
N. R.
Well worth a visit if walking around Oxford. Stunning gardens.
S. G.
Beautiful, peaceful gardens and worth the trip to sit on Lyras bench.
J. M. G.
The botanic gardens has plans from all over the world, with plenty of places to lay down and have a picnic. I'd a great time walking around to see the different plants and reading about them.
N. B.
Spent a pleasant couple of hours wandering around and taking in the views. Plenty of information about the trees and plants.
M. S.
Worth a visit for the greenhouses, if you can stand the heat/humidity. Plenty of exotic plants to see. Also, it's next to Magdalen Bridge where the punting starts on the river Cherwell.
A. D.
Nice place to visit if you're in town and free
m.
I hope it is bigger, but anyway ot was beautiful place, plants were amazing, especially inside ones!
P. L.
Interesting gardens. The green houses are beautiful, it's a lovely way to blow out a couple of hours even on a cold a windy day.
D. F.
This place was beautiful, serene, and inviting. Right next to a calm river where you can go "punting" (?), it was a nice break from looking at all the great architecture.
D. K.
This garden is one of my favourite places to visit in Oxford. So much so that I got a Friends membership that gets me into several other gardens in the UK for free, including Kew! The layout is very easy to explore, and the emphasis is on medicinal and research purposes...not surprising as it is in Oxford after all. There are many classes and events available throughout the year for all ages and interests.
J. S.
Very relaxing garden to spend time in. Coffee very good. View of river from path. Delightful to see plants set out in botanic order.
As first visit, alas a vast selection of perrenial and annual weeds outside the wall in the less formal beds - prehaps a conscious decision? Surprisingly high number of randomly placed weeds within formal botanic beds.
If you are a gardener who finds it stressy to see a lovely bed with an easy to remove and oversized weed next to specimen plant then you will find it difficult to continually walk past and not remove them! :-)
H. K.
Beautiful gardens, great collection of plants, very nice presentation and nice a d quiet place for a walk.
S. B.
What a delightful place. So many plants to learn from and enjoy. It was my first visit and I bet it’s a delight to see how the plants change in season.
Keep up the good work.
D. L.
Lovely garden to wander around, informative too. Close to the city centre, making it easy to get to.
D. Z.
Beautifully maintained gardens, well sign posted and full of useful information on the diverse range of plants.
T. L.
It was large very colourful ful of different types of flowers
J. O.
Fantastic place ! staff are friendly and helpful and there so much to see I will definitely be going back
I.
Very tranquil and great if you love appreciating nature. They also have COVID-19 protocols in place.
M. P.
Superb garden to visit with incredible selection of plants beautifully arranged in a peaceful and scenic setting. Great value for money for what you get
W. T.
Loved the botanic garden! Great place to take the family and absolutely lovely grounds if you have some time to spend in them
h. s.
Really lovely place. Informative but relaxing!
E. W.
Beautiful and interesting gardens with a lovely riverside location. Fun to watch the punts on the river - especially the inexperienced punters!
S. K.
Gorgeous place for a day out with your family and friends. Get in touch with nature and learned a bit of history.
K.
The garden is absolutely beautiful. The historic nature of the place and for fans of certain literature figures will love it
S. N.
Beautiful spot with lots to explore. Staff were really welcoming and there's a nice small shop to explore which sells good gin, brewed with produce from the gardens. The glass House is particularly great. £6 entry and that includes money towards charity.
J. J.
Awesome place, great to spend a few hours out with the family. Loved the carnivorous plants greenhouses, really interesting plants and info signposted around.
A. B.
Beautiful, well maintained on the bank of the river, take a picnic and enjoy the gardens , can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday
T. W. W.
Beautiful, calming and peaceful. You could spend the whole day there!
A. D.
Nice, interesting gardens with a wide range of plants including some great examples of everyday food products in the greenhouses....,

M. C.
Fairytale! My eyes were amazed by the beauty 😍. And the staff very nice, polite and understandable. Thank you!
M. M.
Even during winter this place is amazing...nice walk checking the ponds and flower beds...the green houses have specimens that thrive in tropical environments that you can admire..friendly staff...quite a fantastic time...
C. H.
A really beautiful experience. A good chance for a sombre walk and quiet reflection. Not hugely educational but some information boards dotted around. Enjoyable experience for anyone who likes nature, art, photography or biology
B. B.
Good l
Place to walk around ganders make feeling chill out good time in summer or right weather wram should go there
s. i.
Drove past. Also went on a boat past it. Absolutely wow.
C. B.
Wow, we spent a lovely couple of hours just wandering around, has some incredible plants. Have reccomended it to friends.
C.
Fantastic gardens with a variety of plants, really peaceful and lovely place with the tallest cactus I’ve ever seen!
D. S. M.
Beautiful garden! We went on a lovely sunny sunday morning and enjoyed every minute!
W. D.
Absolutely lovely gardens to spend some time in as a family. I highly recommend spending time here if you're interested in gardens and have some time in Oxford
M. M.
Great place, good coffee, excellent value particularly on an annual pass which also includes Harcourt Arboretum.
N. S.
Nice gardens, ideal for a relaxed afternoon stroll, would have liked more information plaques to be able to understand more about which each of the different plants are.
R. D.
I did not go in this occasion, however, I walked through the lovely Rose Garden at the front, and admired the gardens at the rear, from a nearby path for free 😁
S. E.
Nice place to visit and spend some time away from the excitement of the city centre. Loads to take photos of and plenty of space to sit down and relax. For under £6, it's not too bad
I. W.
There is a lot of criticism of this garden and it seems to be because there is a misunderstanding about its nature. It isn't primarily meant as a pretty, ornamental garden for the public to wander around and enjoy, but as an academic collection of specimens.
I find it interesting with lots of things of interest accepting that the staff there have a job to do, I find them very helpful.
R. F.
Mature gardens with many varieties of plants and flowers. Hot house with water features and carnivorous plants. Also views over the river and punts.
E. M.
Nice variation in plant tyes with helpful snippets of info easily seen. Beautiful grounds. Amazing place to spend an afternoon in Oxford.
P. 3.
A beautiful, calming restful area of nature and also alongside the river Cherwell. Wonderful.
N. S.
Pretty but a bit small, can buy tickets on the day even though a long queue.
s. a.
Beautiful! Would be great if the coffee van had gluten free non dairy milk though
F. M.
A bit smaller than I'd expected (that's what she said).
M. T.
A beautiful, quiet oasis in the middle of busy Oxford. Well sign posted and bursting with colour
A must do when visiting Oxford
J. F.
Lovely day out with the family. The gardens are wonderfully kept and stunning. Especially on a sunny day. Helpful staff too and nice walks along the river. My only issue is the ticket price and the lack of close by parking.
A. Y.
I loved it. I went there for a school trip to Oxford University and went there after a tour. There was so many different types of plants from different religions in the world it blew my mind.
A. C.
I had a great day here - very reasonable entrance fee, and self-guided tour of the grounds. Very interesting displays on at the time, to see it in full summer bloom was fabulous. Nice alpine and tropic selection in the glasshouses.
J. N.
When all the tourist parties in the city centre get too much for you, the Botanic Garden is a great escape. They have thousands of different plants, and we found it very interesting. You can read about historical plants, and plants used in medicine, and there are glasshouses to explore, or you can just sit by the river and watch people punting by.
B. K.
Great to walk round
J. M.
Love this place, our 2nd visit.Highly recommended.Small coffee kiosk. Most people bring a picnic and also watch the amateur punters on the River Cherwell.
L. '.
The place is very beautiful, I love it because there is a lot of nature
C. U.
It's alright, I've seen better and prettier gardens. It's nice if you're really interested in some of the university students work and interested in plants. Personally this is a one time thing for me and I wont go again. But still a nice place to visit, quite expensive for a 30 minute experience though. You can stay longer but you can see everything within 30 minutes
A. B.
I was very interested to visit this place. Unfortunately payment by cash wasn't accept. Contactless only...
What a pity for me 😐😥
S. C.
Not the best time of year for a visit but still very beautiful
V. A.
Beautiful place, should have spent more time
P. H.
Really interesting garden but choose good weather to visit. There will be more to see in the Summer but there were some nice Spring flowers.
K. P.
Small but beautiful garden.
A. C.
Beautiful 😍 What a lovely place bring someone or spend some time being with nature
Well worth the student discount price of £4.00 too :)
The highlights were the medical plants and the carnivorous sections
R. G.
I think I was slightly disappointed as i went in with a bit of expectation for the price we paid. Except the greenhouses, there's not much that a normal park wouldn't offer. But perhaps a gardener would know better.
A. C.
Peaceful, but needs some work. Not as the same level as Cambridge botanic garden.
R. C.
Incredible greenhouses and lovely bursting garden, don't skip the rose hedge maze out front, which is free.
J. M.
Five quid to get in, which I didn't expect (today's trip was spontaneous so I didn't do much prior research). Gardens are nice enough, and I found The Important Bench which I was looking for, so that was good. There was only a smattering of people about since it's approaching winter and a Monday, so quite serene and peaceful - until the kids on the opposite bank came out of school for their lunch break. Can't complain though, really.
S. H.
Great gardens, just a bit early ( March/ April ) as the spring flowers are starting to disappear. Also nice walk along river.
M. K.
I adore this place... My heaven in oxford.. The most amazing thing i love about it, is that everytime you go there you see different scenery and different flowers and vivid colors which make the experience totally unique
A. M.
The gardens are not fully open due to covid restrictions. Two out of the four glass Houses are closed.
D. “. A.
Loved my visit. An oasis of flowers and plants.
M. B.
Really beautiful, especially the rainforest greenhouse and the water lilies on the pond!

c. z.
Beautiful and peaceful!
A. B.
Beautiful gardens. Informative and a pleasure to walk round
M. F.
Gorgeous place to visit with a tranquil atmosphere.
G. F.
Historic and beautiful oasis in the bustle of a busy city.
A. M. A.
Definitely an underrated garden and for those His Dark Materials fans the Lyra & Will bench is a fun little highlight
A. B.
A great way to spend a Sunday afternoon . I can't wait for spring .
S. B.
Best place in oxford to spend 2-3 hours of time. This place is at prime location. You can also enjoy punting.
A. S.
Nice place for the lovers of botany. Good cheap walk around too
L. F.
While the garden is relatively small and there is not a lot of information available about the plants, it is a tranquil and relaxing place to walk round and relax
M. G.
Probably best to make sure you visit in the right season! However that aside it was still a well maintained, and quite pretty botanic garden!
E. K. (.
One of the most spectacular botanic gardens
S. P.
large variety of identifed plants really helps with planning your own garden plus lovely riverside walks
S. T.
Gorgeous place. Relatively quite quiet too, - so very peaceful.
J. O.
Lovely visit, was most impressed by the water lily house.
S. I. n. r. h.
Pretty place. A lot of hard work to maintain I'm sure. Very peaceful.
S. P.
It is a really nice garden and the green house is fascinating. But it costs way too much to get in should be almost half the price for what you get out of it.
S. M.
Lovely gardens, well laid out and right next to the river Cherwell. There is also a refreshments kiosk next to the river.
C. B.
Lovely place - only need about 2 hours to see round it. parking anywhere in Oxford is expensive so be prepared.
M. T.
Went in winter, nice experience anyway one of the glasshouses was closed but will be reopened at the end of February I believe.
Nice walk just outside of the gardens via Rose lane if you fancy a walk in the nature by the river
S. A.
Quite place nice to walk in. Love the flowers and plants. Relaxing and beautiful
V. G.
Wonderful place, very carefully and beautiful. It deserve the price

T. M. B.
Wonderfull green houses full of plants from all over the world, also beautiful open air gardens. An atractive place, specially the palm green house.

Great botanical garden in the city center of oxford, ideal for relaxing for a couple of hours escaping the busy city life of oxford.
L. J.
Lovely garden, not too big but worth to visit
I. T.
Very lovely gardens. Greenhouse has lots of pitcher plants. Grounds are fairly small, but it is only £5.40
G. B.
Excellent park area full of interesting plants, flowers, trees and greenhouses.
C. K.
Very pretty botanical garden. Worth the visit. You can visit the tickets online or from the booth at the location itself. Has a large variety of plants.
D. V.
Small but loved the rainforest greenhouse and all the tropical plants
K. K.
Nice place to spend 30min up to an hour. Very good value for money
B. S.
Beautiful. Lovely way to spend a few hours on a fine day.
H. D.
It was my first visit l loved the fountain and formal garden.
J. R.
Always worth a visit, especially the greenhouses! The arid cactus house is amazing!
B.
Good value entrance cost, beautiful gardens, glasshouses, lots of shade to sit under, peaceful and fragrant. Loved our visit!
J. P.
Lovely gardens in middle of Oxford. Very well kept and maintained. We've been several times and always see something new. Will visit again. You can spend 2 hours there easily and have a great lunch in the many food outlets nearby. Easy to get to using park and ride, the bus stops 5 mins walk away.
S. H.
Even in winter and the wet, gems in shape and form to indulge in.
L. N.
Wide variety of plants. Spacious, less crowded
C. B.
It was a great place for a stroll, I was very lucky not a cloud in the sky. Small enough to cover in 1 to 2 hours.
F. S.
Great morning out. Walking amongst nature was excellent, and it was my first trip to botanic gardens. Perfect as a date or for nature enthusiasts.
D. S.
A really nice place to visit with plenty to see
M.
This really is the perfect place to relax in Oxford. The indoor plants are amazing.
K. F.
I love this place and Oxford. It was very nice trip.
キ.
Amazing garden, less tourists comparing to other places in Oxford.
P.
Lovely place for a relaxing walk. Fair price and plenty to see
E. A.
I have visited Oxford Botanic Garden twice and enjoyed both visits very much. I particularly liked walking around the hothouses with the lily pond and the display of carnivorous plants. The outdoor area is extensive and beautiful, with plenty of inspiration for photography. Highly recommended.
S.
I found it to be a calm place to sit and enjoy the variety of plants on offer.
M. S.
Great place for a picnic. I'm not botanically inclined so can't comment on the plant species
M. E.
Definitely worth to visit... any time of year!
M. A.
Beautiful location. Winter hid the outside plants away. The hot houses were full and impressive. Bring your family here for a good visual walking exoerience.
C. L.
Amazing place to spend a day out!
I will return!
Z. Z.
It is a lovely place to visit when you are in Oxford. The garden is very well maintained and has a lot of different varieties of plants and trees.
S. R.
This please is really cool and we'll maintained
M.
A beautiful location. Even in the rain and grey skies, this place is stunning and offers a nice break from the noise that we all live in.
A. S.
Very nice gardens, worth a visit. Notably there is a small garden outside that is free to walk around. Placards we’re informative and interesting, especially the ones that provide fun facts/context. It seems there are weeds (e.g. Canadian thistle) growing in the gardens, especially in the back section which is less manicured, this seems like an area for improvement. Gardens are big but not huge, probably 1 hour is a good amount of time to designate to see it all, or 90 mins if you’re slower or take your time.
e.
Very peaceful and gorgeous; a great place to just walk around, or sit and enjoy.

Wonderful oasis of calm and not too expensive. Shame there wasn't a little cafe, just a kiosk with sparse seating. I was hoping for something more substantial. I did sometimes struggle to find the names of plants that had become quite large.

Goos floral displays & some interesting specialist displays
A. W.
Definitely worth a visit if in Oxford. Peace in beautiful surroundings in a busy bustling City
N. d. C.
Nice place though a cafe is missing e and access to the boats is outside
T. B.
Little disappointed but in general its an ok place. Tickets are a bit expensive considering the content inside. Its also not very far from the city centre so one can have a quick walk to reach there. Overall its a very small garden comparing it with other places i have been.
M. G.
A lovely experience, if you like to know more about the plants this is the right place for you, also you can find the mandragora plants from Harry Potter movie Don't forget to check that as well.
A. M.
Beautiful botanic garden, close to the city centre, no parking available unfortunately
A. C.
I visited in Winter. Worth it just for the mandrakes, but there were all sorts of hidden gems to see. I could have spent the whole day there. Excited to visit again in Summer!

Amazing but a litlle bit expensive
[6.5 pounds]
Government should keep it up

Everything about it was was wonderful, even so early in the season. Particularly enjoyed the greenhouses.

Lovely gardens next to the river, and overlooking a cricket ground, perfect!
A. G.
Nice area to break away from the city. Lively pitstop and can't moan at the price either! Very clean and a few nice sitting areas can be found. Friendly staff
R. W.
Liked very much lots of ideas and well set out in lovely grounds by the river

Pre-booked tickets ensured a smooth and quick entry. Entrance/exit booth has a small shopping zone with several shelves. The level access entrance/exit to this venue plus paths laid to fine gravel ensures accessibility for disabled visitors, parents with buggies etc. to the outdoors elements of the botanical garden. Greenhouses may prove more tricky to access with help needed to open and hold doors; one set of steps, advise checking on accessibility in advance due to one way system in place re COVID-19. We visited on an Autumn day and found plenty to see despite being at the end of the flowering season. Lots of structure to plants/planting and interest created through grouping/layout of plants in families. Variety of mature trees throughout. Enjoyed the opportunity to sit at various points and take in the views, whether by the central fountain or on other benches dotted around the paths. I would love to visit again in the height of the flowering season to experience the colours and scents. Cafe trailer offering flavoursome hot and cold drinks and snacks situated to the left of the entrance. Close to this are the toilets where accessible toileting and changing facilities can be found alongside male and female toilets.

Beautiful even in winter! Tranquil, perfect for chilling out. Not as huge as other Botanical Gardens but just as important.
N. K.
Beautiful place to visit, go for it!

Glass houses are amazing lots of interesting plants to look at and very relaxing
J. U.
Very well maintained with a fantastic variety of Species in a well designed layout. The only thing that concerned me was they had cleared the oxygenating plants out if the ponds with evidence of newts in the ponds. There would be eggs in the weed as it's still laying season. Late Autumn and early winter is the best time to do this maintenance.
G. R.
Beautiful plants and flora. Fountains Glasshouses and displays. Well planned gardens. Can have a coffee in the cafe whist watching the punts glide by. Great picnic area. £5.45 admission fee
E. S.
Amazing
P. Ŕ.
Full of good stuff and nice people. Actually, after much thought, full of very good stuff: the glass houses deserve a second visit and the people working there are very worth a chat to. Do it.

J. H.
I lovely relaxing place to visit

The garden's are great. Well maintained and full of interesting plants, flowers and trees. A great way to spend a couple of hours. If you're in Oxford I recommend visiting the Botanic Gardens.
J. D.
At 400 years old, the Oxford Botanic Garden is the UK's oldest botanical garden. It was originally established as a "physic" garden to grow medicinal plants which were used to teach medical students. Today it's fascinating to look at the range of plants still in use in medicine today.
Unfortunately the glass houses were closed on the day of our visit. We didn't check beforehand ...
a. M.
Best botanical gardens I've been to and fairly inexpensive
M. G.
Nice day out, decent botanical gardens. Have seen bigger but this was nice and of decent size.
Some beautiful plants on display and some interesting plants as well.
R. R.

E. W.
So peaceful wondering around the gardens and by the river. Very interesting plants in the greenhouses and a lovely atmosphere overall.
L. I.
It's free for Oxford Brookes students! I'm sad I didn't know this before, my student ID is about to expire....
A. H.
Fantastic day out. Garden is not as big as I imagined but still managed to kill 3 hours in there. Plenty other attractions nearby so if you have some hours left in your parking meter you should take advantage of it.
J. M.
Awsome garden, the oldest botanical Gardens in the world, absolutely a must visit if you are in Oxford.
G. E.
The weather was mixed, but it meant we had puddles, which is essential with toddlers. The place is just beautiful and relaxing.
C. E.
Interesting facts and titbits, especially about Fairtrade crops add an element of education and information to a wander through the glasshouse containing the tropical display.
C. G.
A landmark of culture, civilization and, above all, the beauty of nature.
H. K.
Very beautiful and a nice picnic spot as well
E. T.
Amazing botanicals garden's of Oxford . Worth the visit !
L. E.
Not the best time of year for a visit, nothing much out and a poor tulip show. Wouldn't return.
R. S.
Nice, peaceful place to go to, for a walk, reading, merting friends and family, any purpose. Neat and tidy, with friendly staff.
D. R.
Beautiful historic gardens in wonderful location by the River Cherwell and Magdalen College
K. H.
Beautiful gardens in a lovely setting, peaceful in the center of the city
G. b.
Visited on a wet pandemic day. Wasn't feeling optimistic of getting access as didn't book. However we did and we were able to explore the full gardens. Some beautiful plant species and flower all laid out in a nice structure. A garden i would love to visit again in June whilst in full bloom
D. N.
An amazing garden and we could see the efforts to take care of the plants and offer a good experience to the visitors. Still, I would add some more knowledge like info boards, trivia, curiosities linking the plants to real-life experiences, to the fauna of certain areas or countries, engaging children and parents and enhancing their knowledge.
A. D.
A lot to see, perfect gardens.
k. a.
Lovely place to visit really enjoyed it
C. W.
These are beautiful gardens jn the heart of Oxford city. What is wonderful is the extensive wildflower spread within and between the formal planting. We loved it. We are trying to re-wild our garden with lawn turning to meadow and trying to bring pollentaters onto our garden space so more power to their elbow! The only downside is that there is no formal cafe and here they are really missing an opportunity. A lovely glass of chilled wine in these beautiful gardens would go down so well. And make them money!
J. G.
A quick visit. Very nicely organized.
R. J.
Super garden in the middle of Oxford, well worth a visit.
C. L.
It was nice to escape the hustle of the city for a while.
h. k.
Incredible garden within Oxford. Incredible variety of flowers.
R. P.
Lovely gardens. Loved the green houses.
r. M.
Just over the bridge as you enter the city. Interesting plants. Peaceful space for a short walk. At present the tropical plants under glass are closed due to covid. Inside when open is just like a mini jungle.
The views by the water are pleasant. A good place for the classic photo of Oxford with punts and a bridge with an old college behind.
V. W.
Compact , beautiful and something of everything. Well kept and very interesting. And that from a hyper critical gardener. Fabulous garden.
C. I.
Nice place co visit

Very relaxing place to spend a few hours. Not huge but plenty to see.
There is no cafe, just a coffee bar with a small number of snacks. Excellent drinks and service all round.
M. D.
Lovely place to have a rest after long working week. Lost off lawn picnic places. There is a coffee and snacks take away cart, your can sit on the river side and watch nature. Large floral gardens.
Toilets facility on site so clean that I've never seen it before 😁
S. M.
I lovvvvvveeeee it! I want to become a student in Oxford, so I will be able to visit this fantastic place. There hase most kinds of plants from every place of earth.
R. B.
Had a pleasant wander around, not too busy. First class little coffee bar, gets an extra point for having Portuguese custard tarts 😁😁
R. C.
A wonderful garden of flowers, fruits, shrubs, trees, vegetables, herbs.... but also a great learning experience. This place is part of the University's teaching, learning and research, and you will come away with your knowledge enriched.
G. S.
A bit underwhelming. Great if you like the wild look. An amazing amour of apple trees! Lots of interesting plants. Worth a visit.
M. P.
Marvellous variety of flowers and plants. Highly recommended.
