Reviews of Pitt Rivers Museum
L. S.
This place is where the weird and wonderful go to take rest!! The most interesting artifacts I think I've ever seen inside a museum. The space itself is really awesome, I felt like I was in a movie and Indiana Jones may pop out from behind a cabinet at any moment. Really take your time in here. Look in and around things as there is so much to see. I especially liked the different masks, being a horror movie buff you can see where inspiration has come from in these sometimes unsettling masks. One could easily spend all day in there so leave plenty of time for your visit.
G. P.
Great that you can access via history museum. Fascinating history of repressed people. Colonialism at its worst/best. Weapons, clothing, boats, decorations, and so much more all displayed in an accessible way.
Lift as well as stairs. Easy for all.
J. B.
You should go if you're visiting the excellent attached natural history museum.
Less is more and they clearly don't understand that.
Plenty of really interesting items but it just felt like walking through an antique store. Cool but no substance.
In the natural history museum they talk about how they changed the exhibits around from just being rows and rows of stuff to instead telling a story with the items they have and only displaying the really good stuff that conveys something interesting.
In Pitt rivers it's just tons of stuff that doesn't tell a story or hook you in.
I would recommend going to the top floor and looking through all the weapons. That floor was quite good.
I specifically liked looking at the European swords.
Just a case with a bunch of swords from europe with information about each of them. Would love to know about the battles they fought in or a human story attached to them.
N. H.
Awesome place! The Natural history museum is an amazing building, so much to see architecturally as well as dinosaurs and other animals. We particularly love Pitt Rivers ( inside the NHM) and especially the curiosities in the glass cabinets. No shrunken heads any longer but well worth a visit!
A. S.
Steeped in history, this place needs a few hours to explore and discover what's on display.
Friendly staff, and lots to see. Bear in mind that the display cabinets are quite close together so getting around, especially if it is busy, may not be as easy as you'd like.
It's free to.enter but take a fiver with you as a donation to keep the place going.
Not much parking close by so recommend doing park and ride. 😊

Very interesting, amazing the quantity of items in there !
The last floor with all the weaponry is very nice to walk around and see the evolution.
Lots of musical/artistic elements also too see what was used around the world and ages.
Theere are drawers under the display with even more objects, it seems impossible to see it all in a day.
Only issue when we came was the elevator not working.
Maybe it lacks a bit of detailed explanation by item ?

Incredibly wide ranged and interesting museum. Very informative and educational. Quite confusing to go around in but it was very interesting. Loved it. It is based on colonisation artefacts. Artefacts are also grouped in object groups such as rings or necklaces or spears, not tribes or years. There's a lot of artefacts on all kinds of subjects from cultures and tattoos to dolls and masks. It's the perfect place to go to if you want to learn more about foreign cultures and the colonisation of them. I cannot recommend it enough!! I'm definitely going again with friends and family.
A. S.
The Pitt Rivers Museum is a quirky and neat little museum to visit. I have never seen so many skeletons of different animals in one area. This was a really unique and interesting museum to visit!
M. B.
Great place, very very interesting but: what an overload. Not a lot of structure, or context. It is certainly worth visiting but be prepared to be sensorily overwhelmed. They crammed an incredible amount of stuff into this place...
c. M.
Really loved this museum, loved the concept of it and how it shows humans from all parts of the world have similar solutions to problems . Fantastic displays.
P. C.
A fantastic day out. Free to enter but ticket booking required until 30 September, prior to entry. Great for a family on a limited budget. Guaranteed to entertain and educate the young and not so young mind. The Covid regulations are adequate but unobtrusive. A well done to the management and staff. A visit I wholeheartedly recommend.
R. B.
The kids liked it but it is chocka full of stuff and they loved the natural history museum so much they were a bit worn out by the time we got to the Pitts-Rivers museum. The get involved touch the artifacts part was a great idea and did draw their attention though and the paper origami boats was a nice touch
H. S. (.
Vast collections of archeological artifacts from around the world. The entrance is free, however donations are welcome. No tickets needed. They have small gift shop as well.
N. H.
Lots and lots of different and interesting items on view. A little upset the shrunken heads are no longer on display (we'd discussed seeing them on the long drive up) and reason being an issue with human remains on display! I'd like to think all other items with an inappropriate past wil also be removed?!
L. W.
Superb eclectic collection of useful objects from all over the world. So many great things to see. Good cafe. The museum is free, you can make a donation
Y. M.
Absolutely loved it. I've never thought that one could place so many pieces of history from all over the world in such a small museum.
D. R. R.
Very busy on the weekend but that was to be expected given that this is one of the best attractions in the area, added to the fact that it is also free. Plenty of cultural exhibits from tribal groups from African and the Americas.
S. P.
Pretty crowded on a weekend, however there isn't much of a wait time to enter. Tickets aren't required unless its a group. Admissions free. A pretty good experience overall
E. R.
Great way to spend your weekend with your family.. alot of fascinating exhibitions.. suitable with all ages..
P.
A very extensive selection of artifacts, kept my kids (7 and 9 y o) fascinated for over an hour after walking thru the natural history museum. If anything there was too much so if you're really into all this then plan ahead and prioritise what you see first. Otherwise go and have a stroll.
C. _.
Wonderful day today at the Pitt Rivers Museum, very informative, well presented and mentained. Our family really enjoyed this museum. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
J. B.
Great collection, plenty of space to walk round and lots of variety, remember to check out the little drawers under the cabinets, thousands of little items that get missed .
J. H.
A really great museum to visit and lots of wonderful displays.
S. G.
A great time out, with dinosaurs and mysterious trinkets at the back. Lots of fun for visitors to Oxford and the kids!
I. B.
The Pitt rivers museum clearly cares about how the objects inside it are being perceived in the modern day, I liked how the first thing I read as I walked in educated me on this. The displays themselves are just amazing - how often can one person see so many strange and amazing pieces of history from all over the world in one place. The interior architecturally is significant and pleasing and is just such an incredible and beautiful space. The current display on Queer culture and gender is so poignant and an amazing modern display that works with the rest of the museum.
A. C.
Lovely time exploring this museum. Did the children's egg hunt today. This is an amazing museum full of stuff. Can't explain it you have to go and see it. The four stars today is because the lift wasn't working and with 3 small children it made it challenging.
M. J.
Take your time enjoying what this place has to offer. Apart from being beautiful architecturally, knowledge gems can be found within.
r. d.
One of my absolutely favourite museums in the world, and right in the heart of Oxford. The layout is wonderful, like a mad scientist's display case, and the galleries allow you to look down onto the ground floors vast collection of larger objects ( like the beautiful Totem Pole ). You can easily soend 2-4 hours here. Wonderful for children and adults alike.
V. R.
Lovely museum would recommend to anyone and is quite informative and interesting.
L. W.
Great and varied selection of historic items from all of the world. Great place to spend time
S. P.
Things are tightly arranged due to lack of space. But the variety won't disappoint you. Lots of anthropological artifacts.
R. B.
Take your time and enjoy the floor upon floor of amazing artifacts. Do not rush and take your time to absorb everything it has to offer. Once you've looked through all the displays, don't forget those displays have drawers full of treasures. Happy exploring
L. W.
Best museum ever, and free!!! They are also very aware of colonial pasts and address it really well. The shrunken heads are no longer there (out of respect to the dead ancestors of exploited and colonized people's they were taken from) but don't let that make you not go!!
f. m.
Although the museum is smaller than the major London museums there are a lot of exhibits. I could easily have spent two days exploring everything on display.
Nice café which is reasonably priced. There is a lift so people who cannot use stairs can access all levels of the museum.
Well worth visiting.
A. R.
An amazing museum stuffed full of artefacts from around the world. Really fascinating to look around. It's very much of its time and you can't ignore the colonialism and exploitation that led to a lot of these objects being brought to Oxford, but I think the museum are trying to address that more now. The attached Natural History Museum is wonderful too, arching and full of light and replete with fascinating skeletons and taxidermy of various creatures, some that you can touch. The building is as much worth visiting for its architecture as the exhibition inside. All for free, too.
K. P.
Great museum full of exhibits
Free entry also
D. S.
An absolute much if you come to Oxford could spend a few hours here honestly time will fly by. Big bonus it's free.
E. E.
Various ways to see and understand how things were done by tribes
D. H.
A fantastic museum with lots of interesting items to see. Need atleast 3-4 days, if not more, to see all the items displayed. Thoroughly enjoyed what managed to see in one day. Will have to come back soon.
K. J. I. (. K.
It is a nice place to visit. It is inside the oxford natural history museum. It has 3 levels of exhibit. Level 3 holds the most interesting exhibits. For a moment one will be lost in the past, almost 100 years back.
Finding the witchcraft stuff and amulets were creepy
Lots of old warcrafts are also included in their exhibits.
So visit it and have a look at the old traditions.
s. g.
Loved the collections at pitt rivers, especially how the modern every day links to items from all over the world from ice skates and musical instruments to tattoo equipment
E. K.
A very unique and delightful look at a victorian collection with modern context of colonialism, culture, and the role of curatorship today. Absolutely fantastic, I've been coming here for years on visits to Oxford, and not only do I always find something new in the extensive collections but I find myself continually impressed by how it's presentation and context is updated, while maintaining it's unique character. Kudos to the staff!
T. M.
Absolutely mental. The guy was an absolute klepto and it shows. The museum does a good job of representing the more controversial items in this colonial-era culture thief's collection in a respectful manner so that's good.
Perfect if you have ADHD. I wanted to spend about 15 minutes here and ended up spending 2 hours.
J. D.
Amazing display of artifacts, too much to see..... incredible collection, well worth a visit
D. C. (. C.
A treasure located in the city centre. The museum is full of a rich collection of artifacts from all over the world providing an interesting educational experience for all ages. The building itself is an architectural marvel and is a must see if you are in Oxford.
O. C.
I enjoyed the 3 floors of the Pitt rivers museum because as you can see in the photos, There is a lot to look at. I think that this museum is a great place to bring young kids and there is also something for everyone there.
D. S.
Single hall with two balcony levels stuffed with exhibits, and many more in drawers. Crowded cases and hard to read labels are a feature. We went for the Evenki exhibition that was advertised on the website as opening today, but alas not even started to be built. A disappointment as we had spent 2 hours travelling from london. Phone first to see if what you want to see is actually there. A great old school museum.
S. C.
Stunning museum to go round
And had the bonus that Natural History is literally next door
M. M.
The architecture and displays in this museum are in stark contrast to the Neo-Gothic influences of the Natural History Museum from which it's accessed.
No natural light in this museum, but the myriad display cabinets in the central part of this large space provide a great platform for the collection of cultural exhibits from around the globe, presented with just the right level of interior lighting.
You have everything from Baskets to Smoking Pipes, Clothing, Religious Icons, Masks, Musical Instruments and much more.
As with the Natural History Museum the upper gallery is currently closed.
R. S.
Its a nice place to visit, can't believe after knowing the history of this museum. Love this room and recommend this place to anyone who is is Oxford visit. Just check opening and closing hours.
S.
The Pitt Rivers collection is vast and the museum has worked hard to collate it into some sort of order. Maybe a few less things on display with more signs might make it more interesting to look at as you wander through.
R. C.
Excellent free entry museum of history of nature and explorers returns.
Multinational including Japan, Easter island, Europe and south America.
Lovely for all ages
N.
I think this is quite possibly the best museum in the world and certainly my favourite. I understand its contents are always changing snd it's just an incredible collection of human history, from weaponary to folklore.
S. G. -. F. M.
Fantastic exhibition within the Oxford University Natural History Museum. Free of charge. Full of anthropological curios. Don't forget to look in the drawers under the main exhibits, they're also full of interesting little things!
C. T.
A very broad range of precious collections, fantastic!!!!
P. R.
Love it!!!!
Please, visit this place, is amazing!
Full of artifacts, old style, classic
Many many things to visit inside
Friendly helpful staff
C. B.
The Pitt Rivers Museum is a museum displaying the archaeological and anthropological collections of the University of Oxford in England.[2] The museum is located to the east of the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, and can only be accessed through that building.
The entrance is free, but you must to book tickets online.
K. P.
Amazing museum - worth a visit if you have children. It’s also educational for adults as they have a large cultural collection of clothes, models and artefacts.
You could easily spend all day here, or just an hour depending on our level of interest or stamina.
G. R.
This is an amazing place. So much interest packed into a relatively small space but to get around it properly will take several visits I think.
K. E.
Really interesting place, nice day out for the whole family as the kids were so excited. In the cafe I’ve had a carrot cake which was unbelievably delicious. We’ll be back for more 😜
N. M.
Went on a school trip with year 3 children and we absolutely enjoyed it! Something to see for every age and you can spend quite a lot of time as there's plenty to see. Will definitely come back just with family to have more time
S.
We went for the Easter egg trail which was well thought out. It took you around both the natural and Pitts river museums. Hiding the clues, eggs in displays was good as it allowed us all to learn at the same time.
Good access around the museum with lifts for the elderly and disabled too.
I. S.
Connected to the Natural History Museum - this is another intriguing and very interesting museum with many ancient exhibits.
It was definitely worth visiting this museum.
G. D. W.
Magnificent collection, which needs more extensive interpretation of some sort. The staff is informative and friendly and were happy to give answer all questions. You can spend days in this museum and always discover something new. I love the puffer fish lantern and blowfish helmet.
N. I.
Truly the most out of this world museum that I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Unbelievable the amount of artifacts it had on display. I was in awe. Never experienced opening draws to witness additional items. My children and I loved it. Truly a remarkable place.
D. Z.
A beautiful historical building with a very interesting selection of displays.
A. B.
Amazing museum crammed full, there is an attempt at sectioning things but it's very loosely done.
This place will sink time, this is a must have.
P. K.
Not big like Natural History Museum in London.....but never small goes looking around !! There are a cafè in upstairs
F.
Apparently it is 'not a neutral space'. That''s because inevitably, we see things from the point of view of own cultural perspectives. Wow, really? Apart from this not very profound insight, the Pitt Rivers is an amazing celebration of human creativity across time and cultures, and well worth a visit.
B. R.
There's so much to see and learn. It's like an adventurers' treasure trove from around the world.
We absolutely loved it!
The museum staff were helpful and clearly passionate, sharing interesting facts and pointing out items that were especially unusual.
K. B.
Very interesting museum in a magic building. Mostly for children but remember that everyone was a child...
J. A.
Nice museum. Good historical artifacts and information. Glad it was a small museum.
J. P.
We had the best time with Mike! His knowledge is unsurpassable. He showed us a fantastic selection of truly bizarre artefacts, and other incredible and stunning items, all the while with a humorous enthusiasm. Just a blinding day!
O. H.
first time visiting Fantastic / staff friendly and knowledgeable our grandchildren Elsie 7 Frank 5 loved it definitely will be coming again
F. C.
Amazing experience and space! Love to visit every single time
B. A.
So cool ☆ I love this place. No wait, coolest artifacts, free!
N. S.
This place is amazing, has so much to look at and read, great for all ages.
M. A.
Great museum. Been meaning to go here for years, just never got the time. Loved it.
A. B.
Went there a few years ago but it hadn't changed one bit and I hope it never does it is a really different museum experience and quite brilliant
H. X.
Excellent museum all round. But unfortunately no Shrunken Heads? This should be stated on your website. Very misleading. We travelled from London, just to be disappointed because of a small snowflake minority. Why do you bother having a museum if your just going to erase history?
S. M.
What a spectacular place will worth the time to explore and see some of the stories that are made in the halls of this building. The dining areas and courtyard are spectacular
R. P.
Go to this museum if you want to see some amazing history. Donate aswell.
M. S.
Located at the back of the Oxford Museum of Natural History. A collection of a wide variety of archaeological items from across the world.
The first time I went here, it was overpowering and it felt like a clutter- too many random things cramped together in too small a place. It was difficult for me to focus.
I am so glad that I went there again. It is spectacular and innovative. Yes, it's a little overwhelming but definitely worth visiting. It's unlike any other museum I have ever been to.
I appreciate how they mention the racism, Eurocentrism and exploitation that lay behind many of the museum's acquisitions, something that all British museums should mention. I'm glad that at least one museum is taking small steps towards decolonizing history.
z. l.
Fantastic collection of artifacts on display. Can spend you the whole day if you're interested in the rare and exotic.
Has a large front section with displays and activities for children as well.
Definitely a destination for families.
D. B.
Amazing place! What a building absolutely stunning by far the best museum I've been to. If you are in Oxford this is a must!
M. F.
Absolutely fantastic place for an afternoon with the family...or by yourself! No matter how many times you visit you will always find things you've never noticed before! Activity sheets available for the children to do plus lots of other child friendly things! A must see museum when in Oxford!
M. F.
We have had wonderful time there, really interesting exhibitions and lots to do. For free!
R. W.
At the back of the history museum (trough the double doors on the ground floor) this place is amazing. 3 floors of display cabinets and viewing draws absolutely rammed with artefacts and information. There is honestly so much to see it's difficult to know where to start.
C. R.
Love it! You can't see it all in just one visit.
N. C.
One of the most beautiful museums, it is not a big museum but with a lot to see, you will spend 1h easy inside, free entrance, the building outside its the most beautiful in Oxford, close from city centre, just a short walk, there is no dedicated car park and you can't find any cheap around, suggest to include this visit in a tour through Oxford to compensate the expensive car park Oxford have.
E. T.
Great museum 👍 Worth the visit
R. H.
An awesome place, very easy to get lost and realise you have spent all day there
J. H.
Well worth a visit so much interesting items to see staff was very helpful and imformative beautiful building.
C. Z.
Awesome as always, but the 'shrunken heads' are no more!
b.
Really a nice intresting museum
C.
One of the best museums I've been
B. W.
Totally wheelchair friendly, so much to see in this one man collection, you can spend days or hours, it's up to you, ENJOY
N.
Fascinating exhibits but fairly overwhelming hence 4/5. Despite that chaos, I had a lovely time there
V. J.
For all the history lovers ❤️
Dinosaur is a charm🙈
M.
I like this archeological and anthropology museum. There is a little bit too much to see.
B. Z.
This is one of the most impressive museum's I've ever seen. I didn't have enough time to go through them in detail, but the way it displays all the artifacts is very impactful. A must see in Oxford!
L.
Free museum with lots of artifacts to see and admire. So much history in one large room over multiple floors.
J. M.
Amazing !!!
So much to see for free (give what you want in the donation box).
P.
A flawless collection of so many various things! from Dinosaur bones to rocks to mayan art to space stuff! I can not fault this museum at all, the staff were really helpful when I asked for information about a previous exhibit.
J. H.
This is what happens when a cleptomaniac opens a museum. Why stop adding exhibits when the museum is full. An Aladdin's cave of curios and oddities.
C. S.
Lots of exhibits, but all jammed into cabinets with little readable labelling. There's definitely some interesting stuff here, but it could be so much better if you could tell what your were looking at. The natural history museum next door is far better arranged.
M. M.
What an amazing place and superb collections from all over the world..You'll need a whole day to appreciate and check all the displays because they have row after row, floor after floor, shelf after shelf of interesting and educative objects and relics from every culture...from oddities to priced items...enjoy your whole day here and savor the menu at the restaurant...Don't miss the shrunken human heads..a rare collection
S. D. D.
One of the nicest museums i have ever visited
C. D.
If you know what to expect when planning a trip to this museum/collection, I think you'll have a great time. The amount of things there is overwhelming. The organization of items seems to need improvement but considering the amount, it's alright. It's more a place to just look at the overall, general details (if that makes any sense)!
T. O.
The collection is so big ! You can find any kind of object and the place gives off a particular charm. It takes time to see it all though !
Л. С.
Free museum, children were existing) The dynozour's skeletons are amazing!
J. W.
If you haven't seen this collection of artifacts then you must. Such an eclectic range of wonderfully preserved articles from all over the world. If only I had more time to take it all in. Will definitely visit again.
T. W.
Wonderful for young children to explore and touch the exhibits
P. W.
Magnificent eclectic collection with the curators making it fascinating.
N. W.
Fantastic curation of animal and human artifacts. Everything from ancient swords to fossilized snails. Spend a couple of hours there!
l. p.
A pleasant surprise this one! Highly recommend getting lost in their collection.
J. G.
Fascinating place. So much to see. One visit not enough
C. F.
One of my top rated museums, it was like walking into the Room of Requirement! It is jammed packed with strange and curious items. With free entry this is a must see and I would recommend looking for the shrunken heads!
S. C.
Behind the Oxford university museum of natual history, very worthy to visit.
T. N.
An impressive collection of artifacts. My favourite section was the top floor with the weapons
M. T.
Such a cool collection. I could spend hours in there!
D. T.
Great museum !
J. M.
We allowed 2hrs 15 minutes, really wasn't enough time. Stunning building, with exhibits to match
I. T.
Nice museum, lots of exhibits.
L. H.
A fascinating collection of curiosities from around the world. The museum is accessed through the Natural History Museum and so you get to experience the wonders of the natural world too.
S. F. J.
One of the most interesting museums I've visited. Well worth your time.
S. S.
Wow, Pandora would be jealous of thus museum. Its got so many unusual artifacts, and it's free connected at the back of the museum of natural history by Oxford University. Take the park and ride or bike, also central to Oxford and University Parks for a walk next door. Everyone should visit this place at least once in their lifetime!! You won't forget it.
p. v. r.
It's great museum with huge collection. It's free of cost and should be better option for tourists.
O. W.
Anthropology at its best! This vast collection is a must to see and explore at any age. Highly recommend it.
D. R.
An incredible collection of "things". There's no other way of describing it really as the contents are so varied. The items are grouped into small sub collections line "musical instruments", "boats", etc. I went specifically to see the shrunken heads and skulls but was fascinated by pretty much everything in there. Highly recommended
S. P.
This was my first visit to Oxford and I was really looking forward to visiting some of the museums. The problem was that I went to this one first, and was so captivated that I didn't have much time to visit the more famous museums. This place is incredible. The variety of exhibits was enormous, and they were collated in unusual ways which was fascinating. I especially enjoyed the textile exhibits as that is my bag, but there was so much else to look at, it was definitely a place to linger and to learn. Definitely worth returning to.
A. M.
Amazing collection of artefacts from shrunken heads, to massim lime spatulas, i was overwhelmed at first but took another visit the next day to visit the upper floors. Loved all the tribal clubs, shell and bone fishhooks, shell necklaces, sheilds, weapons etc etc etc
S. M.
Wonderful museum! So much to see. We'll have to go back.
W. S.
A wonderful collection of items. The kids didn't enjoy this as much as the the Museum of Natural History next door.
A. G.
Wonderful world of wonders although very disappointed that the shrunken enemies are no longer there.
M. H.
Just amazing. Child and adult friendly so much to see very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Gorgeous building
L.
It was so good.So many cool and(spoiler:creepy)things to see.And it’s defiantly a visit worth!
R. M.
Along with the NHM, surely the best museum in Oxford?
The pop up ‘eat meat’ exhibit is a bit 6 form science project?
Plenty of woke stuff to fill you non-binary boots.
A. A.
Being a former museum curator this collection is a favorite. Artifacts are grouped by their type not time or culture. And everything is placed within inches of you to view. You could easily spend the day there wandering the many levels, getting lost in this exceptionally presented collection that covers the entire timeline of human existence.
S. (.
Good for an afternoon out, if you're into history then this is the place for you. Alot to see and architecture is phenomenal. Free to get in which is great! My biggest gripe is the parking situation is not good! Great for couples/family/kids
S. W.
I love this museum. So much to see.
A. R.
Visiting this museum is experiencing what object and information storage is when there is too much of it and little amount of guidelines on how to organize it, resulting in a fascinating group of item collections arranged with little connecting theme amongst them other than a feeling of "it's where we were able to fit it", at a loss to tell their story as a whole.
If you're a fan of wandering down aisles of seemingly randomly arranged items, you will enjoy this place. However, if you like organized presentation, this will be a toil, especially on the ground floor where the whole chaotic based arrangement seems to spike (upper floor seem to have a more coherent overall organizational thread).
A. C.
Very nice museum with so many artefacts...takes weeks to appreciate the vast collection. located in the national history museum you can get two birds with a stone. Make sure you account for tine.
C. C.
Loved my time here, one of the few places I actually donated £5. Lots of interesting stuff to see.
B. S.
This is one of my favourite museums on the planet. Not only is it attached to the Natural History Museum but it is aost magical. If you are visiting Oxford this is a must, it is child friendly, has lifts for wheelchair access and the staff are incredible. And it has guns... Lots of guns!
S. U.
So much to see for its size. I like the thematically order of the museum, a massive archeological and anthropological collection. A must visit in oxford!
S. W.
If you are into anthropology then this place is for you... for the rest of us... it is a crowded attic full of someone else's stuff.
M. T.
We came for a day trip with our 4 children aged 4-10yrs. Really fascinating, kids loved it. We hope to visit again soon
m. a.
What an interesting place to visit, there are so many fascinating objects to discover, we learned so much.
I particularly like the way the museum staff have updated the language used on information labels and highlighted the fact that hundreds of the objects were taken from indigenous peoples as part of colonialism. It's a place that needs to be visited lots of times, we will definitely visit again and take our grandchildren.
What a shame the school party that visited at the same time were so badly behaved and appeared to have no clear purpose for being there. They missed out on so much.
I. B.
Despite the removal of the shrunken heads, this remains one of the world's most astonishing museums. Wonders at ever turn!
D. B.
Do you like wandering around a maze of nightmare fuel for small children? Want to learn some freaky facts and see well catalogued artifacts that would have Indy drooling on his whip? Look no further.
Feels like the kind of place you'd definitely get cursed for touching anything within, rather than just politely asked to leave. It's jam packed with all sorts of crazy and fascinating things from all over the world. Well worth a look. And they sometimes have awesome little exhibitions and displays, like a Day of the Dead celebration, where you got to learn all about the histories and ceremonies, rather than just painting your face with pretty skull-dot patterns.
Sadly, the shrunken heads display got taken down. Creepy, but awesome to see that side of international history. Bring back the shrunken heads!
P. D.
Amazing place. I keep coming back and I always discover something new...
P. S.
It is within another museum. And contains a very wide collection spread over 3 floors. Free entry
V. S.
Excellent museum to learn more about different cultures history and life, next to the Natural history museum
V.
This is an incredible place, there is so much to see here! There are many different artefacts, from musical instruments to shrunken heads! Great place to visit for all ages. They have special events and family events on, so check their website to see what is on, they had a treasure hunt activity for children when I visited.
M. L.
Great place to educate yourself. There is a massive variety of history here, and its a good way to spend a few hours. I wouldn't recommend driving here though!
Z. O.
Very Interesting & it's Free!
K. f. a. d.
I like it, my wife and son less so. Lots of interesting little bits and pieces from around the world.
G. P.
Lovely place, both the place itself (located at the far end of, having entered, the Natural history museum entrance), and the exhibits, on 3 floors.
J. P.
What an amazing place! 😍
There's so much here; from cultures from all over the world. It's such a fascinating place.
Great for all the family, love it 😀
S. F.
I wish I’d taken the guy’s name, but I’ve just returned home from a trip to the Pitt Rivers Museum and my four year old child is still talking about it. It’s a magical place anyway, but with people engaging adults and kids alike, it’s just incredible. Huge thanks and we’ll be back.
J. R.
This is a museum of, literaly, everything. Starting from fashion to medicine to afterlife to means of transportation to daily life. It is incredibly interesting and can take anywhere between 1 and 100 hours to explore it. Each exponate has a story and some strange reason why it ended up there.
J. W.
Great museum full of the weird and wonderful
K. H.
Loved the museum, good to see the changes happening to bring the exbibits and descriptions up to date and reduce bias
Y. M.
Amazing. I really enjoyed there. I definitely back again. I will plan more time staying there. Packed, but all fun to see. Various categories, but all interested.
R. G.
It is and incredible collection. The amount of objects and the details as the originality of most of them are impressive. An awesome place to spend some quite time observing and wondering. It is remarkable the way everything is conserved.
M. C.
Very compact little place, absolutely full of stuff. You have to actually open all the little drawers and go up and down the staircases to get the full experience. The layout is a bit rough unfortunately, looks like a messy garage.
T. F.
Fascinating museum, with all manner of curios and artefacts from around the world. Although superb, the sheer number of things on display did feel a little overwhelming.
H. m.
Excellent place to visit for free but please leave a donation to help running costs.
Was a little busy today as half term for kids but nice to see people having a good time.
S. R.
We absolutely love the Pitt Rivers museum. A treasure trove with surprises around every corner.
Y. V.
Great place to know, an small museum with great content, have a complete collection of old weapons in the third floor.
N. S.
An amazing collection of antiquities. Not enough time to see everything. Another visit is a must.
O. P.
One of my favourite places to visit in Oxford, even if you're not into museums this place has a lot of cool and quirky things to see. Plus the architecture is beautiful.
I.
A very quirky collection of items in this place, wasn’t easy to find. We did so by going into the natural history museum first and then found that there’s a linked entrance from here into Pitt Rivers. Not explained too well outside that your entering history museum first and the Pitt Rivers is at the rear. It was our last visit of a full day and so our feet and backs were aching, so we’re only took in the ground floor but there’s another 2 or 3 floors above. A fantastic place worthy of more time. Most of the free museums ask for a voluntary £5 donation but that’s up to you if you want to pay. We didn’t but I can understand those who have chosen to. The history museum next door is equally as impressive !
W. H.
This is my all time favourite museum, never fail to find something different each time.
B. B.
Great... packed to the rafters with world wide treasures and info on them. Next time will try to access family sessions and use the Museum activity sheets for the older kids
Lovely time spent
H. H.
Really interesting and helped with research for my textile art course work,
Would recommend for all ages as there is a children's activity to do when you get there,
Love it
S. P. O.
Great fun.. lots looted stuff..great range of artifacts
J. O.
You can never move through the three floors and the exhibitions in 2 hours. So if you can, split your time over two days and take it all in. It's a calming space, with chairs available for seated viewing too, if the scramble gets a bit too much.
There's also a little lift that takes you (and a pram/buggy) to the ground floor. So if you're a mom/dad moving around with your baby don't stress. You can access the ground floor without navigating the stairs. Suitable for physically disabled people too.
R. W.
What a great place to go. so much to see you can't do it all in one day great for the kids and adults to do. it's extremely good not that many people quite calm and quiet, good for people who don't like loud noises
N. T.
The knowledge of the staff here is outstanding! A great museum!
M. H.
Pure delight. Although it seems small, there is so much to take in and a couple of hours would not suffice to have a proper look at the collection. We needed a number of breaks to let everything sink in and enjoyed every second spent there. An amazing journey through the continents, cultures and time.
A. K.
Very well maintained history
T. C.
Full of sooo much to look at. Things everywhere you look, really impressive how they have used the space
G. F. G.
The most marvelous museum in the world. Worth visiting it many times.
P. C. C.
One of my favorite museums in Oxford. Love the architecture of the building. It shares the same site as the natural history museum. It has vast collection of artifects from around the world
J. K.
Verry exciting exhibition. It was amazing! Worth to visit! Ther is no admission fee.
I. H. (.
Probably one of the best museum I have been for a while, definitely check it out when you are in oxford.
A. D.
Fantastic museum, definitely worth a visit.
P. W.
If you can't get to the Natural History Museum in Kensington London this will be a good second best. We'll worth a visit and kids will love it. Really great building as well.
A. P.
If you like a museum that is like a treasure trove, this is the place to visit! It has aisle upon aisle of artefacts and has a really quirky feel.
G. B.
This needed a second visit - just so much to take in. Probably the most interesting collection I have ever seen
R. D.
Varied, complex, intricate, exciting, weird, wonderful.
G. H.
Amazing. If there is complaint it would be that there is TOO many artefacts in there. An absolute must for anyone visiting oxford. Its combined with the Natural History museum which is awesome as well... not 'stuffy' like other museums of its ilk.. having said that the Pitt Rivers is unique... and best of all... its FREE!! Whats no to like?!?!
A. W.
So much to see!
E. L.
Excellent museum
N. H.
Greta artifacts and very interesting, staff very polite
J. D.
A fascinating mix of curios. I particularly enjoyed the way in which the museum is dealing with the legacy of European supremacy (or rather, European and British belief in their supremecy over other cultures) at the heart of much of the interpretation of the collection. It discusses these issues without being patronising or trite.
Z. S.
Very interesting. Lots to see here. Great family day out.
S. H.
I visited this museum for the first time in well over a decade today and was hugely impressed with how they have dealt with the discussions around colonialism and Eurocentrism in their displays.
The museum collection is incredible in itself but by adding the analysis of the language used in the labeling and the way items are displayed they have added so much more to what can otherwise feel like a relic of another time.
I remember visiting the museum well over a decade ago and while I admired the ethnographic approach to the displays that allowed comparisons to be made between cultures, it felt like stepping back into another era. The changes that are being made and the conversations that are being had, both with visitors and the descendants of those who created so many of the objects on display, make it feel like the museum has a relevance and importance that it lacked on my first visit.
I had a very interesting conversation about the work being done with a member of staff and was saddened but not surprised to hear that they had received a lot of criticism and even verbal abuse for these changes, which is why I feel compelled to write this review. Museums are not just about the past, they reflect contemporary issues through their choice of what is and isn't displayed, and how those displays are described. The Pitt Rivers is, imo, leading the way in these incredibly complex and difficult conversations about the role of museums in society and I cannot applaud them enough for that.
A. H.
Shrunken heads! I mean there's lots of other interesting and amazing stuff to see too. Everyone will find something to trigger a good few hours of exploration and interest.
D. C. d.
Another great museum with fantastic exhibits
M. D.
An excellent muse. Well worth a visit.
M. O.
The best place in Oxford without a shadow of a doubt ! Have visited this museum so many times. There is so much to see you will need to go back again and again.
S. B.
Such a vast collection the museum has, wonderful
B. P. 安.
Great collection, especially the weapons on the 3rd floor.
B. B.
Absolutely fantastic!!! Every people need see this!!
D. F.
Anthropology museum, packed with artifacts arranged by subject, not place of origin, from the late 1800's to late 1900's.
S. H.
A great day out with my grandchildren we had a lovely time
m. s.
A very enjoyable museum displaying both the traditional and the unusual.
E. G.
Good museum with masses to look at, all in quite a confined space. Joined to the natural history museum which was also good. Only complaint, no loo roll and no soap in the bathroom.
A. v. C.
Pitt Rivers is just the best natural history museum in the world!
P. M.
The Pitt Rivers Museum was a great find. I don't normally do museums but this one engaged me immediately. The collections are on a timeline of development through the ages. So, as an outdoor instructor with an interest in Bushcraft, to find a display on the development of fire by friction around the world I was delighted. There was also fascinating display on Inuits and another, close to my heart, on mandolins.
M. L.
Kids and adult would definitely like this museum, very interesting, even the way they want you to donate. Would go again!
K. M.
Unique museum.. A wonderful collection of Pitt Rivers inside the Natural History Museum.. peek inside the museum is must while visiting Natural History museum.
S. M.
An amazing place to visit from natural wonders of this world from dinosors bones to fishes.
Once you enter you will be greeted by a mountain bear - recommend take a picture and feeling the skin/hair - pretty incredible.
If you venture upstairs, there's some stairs or and lifts (disability friendly) you will find history through the ages from samurai armour to modern guns used throughout the ages.
Only issue was that the downstairs section was poorly lit however, I do think it's to preserve at old artifacts.
There's a restaurant/cafe if you fancy a quick bite.
A. G.
This museum was an absolute treat. The exhibitions were undoubtedly interesting and the information cards included extremely useful insights into what you were actually looking at. And - on top of that, it's free!
D. P.
With all the cased exhibits it reminded me of an organised Cairo Museum. Just too much to see. Well worth a visit.
R. O.
An absolute must, great for adults and older children.
A.
-Great
-So much history
-Plenty to see and do
j. h.
Fantastically dark and fascinating
R. B.
Unfortunately the sunken heads have been taken away. If only people new the real history of them, and didn't put it down to racism.
To much stuff to see and take in, in such a small space. Really worth going to see though.
A. S.
Potentially one of the greatest museums in the UK, though the anthropology students have had their way with some of it, choosing to concentrate on social politics rather than history, there is still scope to learn about natural and human history through the eyes of past anthropologists. So rewarding.
S. M.
Not my cup of tea but some odd curiosities you probably won't see anywhere else.
B. S.
One of the best places to visit in Oxford. Always worth looking out for the shrunken heads, boats on ground floor and armoured weapons on the second floor
N. N.
Really interesting displays of the same things (eg boats, musical instruments etc) but in different cultures throughout time. I had an enjoyable hour there browsing the 3 floors.
S. W.
Lots of stuff! But not much is written about each piece... Enough artifacts for 2 lifetimes of viewing.
J. A.
So much things to see, we'd love a 2nd pair of eyes !!
j. j.
Great place to visit. Plenty to see. The kids loved it and was given a task of finding 14 white mice.
A. W.
So much to see!
N. M.
Good place to bring both adults and children, something for everyone.
Disappointed they have removed the shrunken heads though.
D. B.
A large collection but very crowded and cramped. Not my cup of tea
D. B.
Again we we were amazed at the sheer variety & scale of exhibits from all over the world. Fascinating and a must see experience. Also free entry( donation suggested).
S. A.
Thousands of artefacts from around the world. You need more than a day appreciate the collections.
N. D.
This is one of the best museums I have experienced. It explores human beings, the inventive, artistic and our imaginative side. Well worth a visit.
M. N. L.
This museum is something else, it's soo big even I was shocked first as I entered in. The dinosaur are so huge the ostrish , the stones every single animal in the world is there...The olden days tools are still there too. I was so happy to see my country represented there with tools that old people use to hunt with...Drums olden thurshed round houses. And many many more historical things.
G. H.
This is my favourite musium, it is packed with everything that Pitt Rivers collected, absolutely fascinating. I was just a bit disappointed that the shrunken head exhibition has been withdrawn. For, presumably, political correctness. I had specifically told my six year old that he would be able to see them and he was very excited about them, but alas, no more.
W. C.
Very good Museum lots to see 😃
B. B.
Very nice museum
S. M.
Arrived early, had coffee in the museum cafe, empty at 10.15 am,The shrunken heads have been permanently removed so don't tempt your kids with that promise ,v busy by 12.30.
A. H.
Excellent place to spend hours looking at the varied item. Packed to the rafters. Good cafe for refreshments and clean toilet facilities. Staff very informative too.
k. w.
Always have a visit when visiting family in Oxford. Never fails to entertain
M. A.
Just loved it!
T. N.
Lovely experience here, was not expecting it to be so good .
E. L.
Incredible, loved that every artefact had a hand written description, felt more personal
S. V.
This is a great museum. Highly recommended. But there is a lot to see in one day so you may you need to come back. 👍🤓
G. F.
Lot's of fun this afternoon
P. K.
This always used to be my favourite museum, but it has a new Director and is losing its unique qualities. It now tries desperately hard to be woke and relevant, which I approve of in general, but in my view it is done in a cumbersome way, that interferes with what makes the PRM special.
H. V. A.
Right up there as the best I have ever had the pleasure to experience!
D. S.
Perfect to spend time in Oxford!
d. n.
Very interesting. Kids enjoyed the mouse hunt.
V. L.
Good exhibits and explanations
S. A.
Amazing museum. I've been hundreds of times and always find something new and interesting. A must see.
T. P.
The Oxford natural history museum is a really great day out. It's not that big, but they still manage to fit in lots of great exhibits.
F. C.
Top museum - be sure to look out for the shrunken skulls :)
D. J.
Amazing collection of artifacts from around the world, crammed into one large fantastic hall.
D. D.
Amazing! We were lucky to meet Mike and hear 4 stories!
If you want to hear the story about the hooded cape made from seal intestines, find Mike! If you want to hear about the cloak made from 2 000 000 feathers, find Mike! Thank you, Mike! We will come back again soon! @pittriversmuseum @Pitt_Rivers
T. C.
This is one of our favourite museums. I love the way the display pieces come right up to date, showing how we sit in this rich anthropological history.
J. S.
Loved this place ,not enough time to study it all in one visit. You can lose yourself in here as time passes you by as you wonder why, or how or what .....Beautiful building, part of the university which just gives it all scholastic kudos.I definitely shall return to this epitome of natural history museams.
K. B.
Great museum as always, free entry with a voluntary donation but note you need to book tickets online to enter, quick and easy to do, toilet access inside
W. T.
This is true gem within oxford museums. And It's free!
C. B.
I've been visiting this place for over 40 years and still find it fascinating and have just scratch the surface of what there is here. Brilliant atmosphere, taking a torch is a must. Highly recommended
C. “. P.
Worth a visit, recommend doing it in 2 parts and having a coffee because there is so much cool stuff to take in.
J. S.
Wonderful place. Slowly being sanitizer by the woke Muppets. Apart from that it is an awesome collection of oddities and curiosities from all over the world.
R. R. d. L.
Amazing collection in such a small space!
d. l.
Lovely place some fascinating pieces
J. H.
You may wish to see my review for the Oxford Museum of Natural History. Pitt Rivers Museum (better termed "Collection") is inside the natural history museum.
This museum is an excellent location for individual travelers, adult and young learner's. The Natural History portion is best served for families with younger children. Childrens may not be interested in the cultural collections found in the Pitt Rivers Collection.
Enter through the Natural History Museum. Directly across the quadrangle inside is the entrance to Pitt Rivers. You may review the collection for free! There are Children's learning papers to help visitors around the museum to see items of particular items.
Many travelers ask about the "shrunken heads" in the Pitt Rivers collection. Many tour leaders reference the heads in their talks. If you wish to see the heads (other than the images below)...enter the collection and go to the center of the room. Turn right and look back towards the collection entrance. That will put you in the general area of the display case. These items are not viewable from the entrance side of the cases.
B.
One of the nicest and most interesting museums I have seen and free admission..
N. M.
The best free museum in Oxford, maybe the UK. I'm utterly shocked someone can vote a FREE museum 1 stars. There's some great exhibits here, plenty of world history and some great dinosaur exhibits. It's about 10 minutes to walk it from the Town Centre but it's well worth it. I've been coming here since I was little, let's hope Pitt Rivers continues well after I'm gone.
O.
It is always very nice and welcoming. It also packed with items and for the size of the museum it is oddly difficult to view everything
E. 2.
It was amazing!! Apart from the fact that the cafe is expensive so I advise bringing your own food. And one of the displays in the Pitt Rivers section, the shrunken hearts display, was closed because people had complained about it.
P. E.
An amazing place. You will need more than one visit to look at everything fully
j. f.
Incredible place that everyone needs to go.
V. K.
Extensive collection, lt was fascinating to learn a lot on various cultures through the objects that the people used. Body reshaping and fire arms section were particularly noteworthy.
M. S.
A fascinating museum with a huge range if artefacts carefully catalogued. Lots of interest for children and adults alike.
A. H. (.
A fantastic place to visit. Would recommend visiting multiple times as there is so much to see. It is well layed out and great for kids as there are activities tailored for them available. As its all indoors an ideal place to visit on a rainy day
C. Y.
Wonderful in so many ways but too much to absorb in one visit
J. L.
Really interesting collection
Great covid measures in place
Helpful staff
Free entry, with suggested £5 donation
Cafe next door also good
M. S.
This must be one of the world's most interesting museums an eclectic mix of everything - you will probably have to go back several times to absorb how much there is in this interesting museum attached to the Natural History Museum which also is a 5-star Museum
M. M.
Very cool museum, it's part of the natural history museum and its worth having a look. Split over 3 floors there are some truly amazing finds to read about.
I. B.
Very good museum, I look after the water systems within the museum. Very educational and my little ones loved there visit.
S. S.
Just so full of interesting exhibits. Allow a long time to visit this fascinating museum.
S. G.
Highly recommend a visit, you'll learn so much and see old/new and unique exhibitions, this place is perfect for the whole family/couples or school day trips.

Probably the most interesting museum I've ever been to. Always see things I've missed on repeat visits.
N. H.
What a mix of things to look at
T.
Amazing and interesting place to visit... Lots of things to see. The kids loved it. Free entry
N. H.
Fantastic place to wander around, amazing items some of which are quite bizarre and a little macabre. Very easy to loose all track of time well worth a visit.
A. B.
No charge for entry. Aladin's cave of items. Probably not interesting for young children.
R. M. M.
Great little museum located in the back of the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. The lights are dimmed to protect the exhibits and the shelfs are highly packed. Best method to explore is to take the elevator up and work your way down. Also great for kids and families.
J. J.
Intruiging museum with lots of interesting artifacts from around the world
C. C.
A treasure in a treasure. So much to see in a collection arranged by type not chronology
d. b.
Such an amazing place with all of the history inside it 😍
S. M.
Fabulous collection of artifacts from all over the world
s.
Cretaceous period section where the word written in various languages from different countries you guys got korean in wrong its supposed to be written ‘백악기’ but ‘백악질’
I’m korean btw
D. P.
An enclave of the Natural History Museum, the Pitt Rivers Collection boast an astounding array of anthropological artefacts.
Highlights include the incredible totem pole which spans the height of the building, and the impressive selection of weaponry on the top floor.
Definitely worth a wander round if you're visiting the Natural History Museum.
C. B.
Amazing place.
H. M.
A place for contemplation, getting in touch with ancestry and admiring the beauty of other cultures history.
T. H.
What a fantastic place! I loved how things were grouped by type, given a rare chance to compare cultures and eras side by side. Highly recommended.
R. B.
Really neat museum and concept. It’s overwhelming how much stuff is contained in those three levels. Worth a visit, but do plan how long you’ll stay. You can spend several days there if you let yourself explore all the exhibits closely!
S. D.
The most bizarre museum iv ever been in, such a wired and eclectic mix of stuff it was good though. X
J. M. (.
A very interesting exhibition, unfortunately not necessarily for the little ones, ie 3 years old. I will definitely come back here.
K. P.
An amazing day out. So much incredible stuff packed into such a small place!
M. M.
Bit cramped and definitely needed more time than i had to appreciate....it is idiosyncratic and not what I would call a typical museum layout.
T. V. O.
Incredible displays
R. W.
Best and most eclectic museum. Loved it and will definitely go again
V. B.
Free entry. Has lots of artefacts and informational.
R. K.
Very good, even for young children who can complete one of the many games/work sheets...like find the mice in the displays 👍
T. S.
They've got loads of neat stuff here. It's free as well. You can spend hours here an never see everything. Over all it is worth a visit if you're in town.
A. T.
Very interesting for adults & children. Lots to see. Educational & well worth a visit.
C. B.
Very interactive and interesting, rotating exhibitions to keep it fresh so you'll always have something new to see and discover!!
J. C.
Worth a visit!
A. T.
Well worth a visit, given time we could have spent hours there.
t. s.
One of my favourite museums in the world. Full of beautiful, fascinating stuff.
C. C.
It would have been 5 🌟 if they haven't given in to pressure and removed the shrunken heads.
The kids loved it and if is a great place to teach them about other cultures and history.
G. O.
Must go, impressive collection in a graduate architecture!
P. J.
Really love this place.. Free to get in.. Big enough to spend a couple of hours in.. Good for kids of all ages.. And really interesting collections that your unlikely to see or outside of the natural history museum London. 5 stars.. Must visit whilst in Oxford..
S. S.
Not a large museum but it's STACKED with stuff to look at. Great place to spend a few hours with the family
I. B.
Amazing place, full of curiosities from all over the world. I highly recommend a visit!
M. R.
Wonderful the kids really enjoyed it
V. A.
Excellent museum. Beautiful, well kept building. Amazing exhibits. Friendly staff.
R. S.
Really well maintained museum. The one thing I noticed about it was how light it was, makes a change to certain stuffy, claustrophobic museums. Friendly staff. Look out for the giant crab.
s.
Very fun place to go and look at great historical and natural specimens and items
d. c.
Full of stuff but very hard to see as it is packed in and very dark for good reasons I am sure.
N. L.
Wonderful building and great collection. Good for children, don't miss the rooms behind the main building. Look for the shrunken human heads.
G. M.
Very good museum free entry and loads to see very interesting well worth a visit
K. H.
Interesting museum, been umpteen times over the years. Nine year old grandaughter agreed it was the right thing to remove the shrunken heads!
m.
Museum of everything and nothing. Probably one of the most interesting museums I've ever been. Highly recommend!
j. h.
Very interesting museum. Not to big and fun fod the kids!
G. S.
I love this museum. A homage to the skills of humans over a long period of time. That arctic clothing is always fascinating! One view of the past!
J. Z.
Quite interesting and well done. If you like the history of human culture, it's wonderful.
G. M.
A place to visit often to fully explore and cover the collection to do it justice very enjoyable I would recommend to those who have a pulse.
A. E.
One of the best and most interesting archeological, anthropological and zoological museums I've ever been too, the have a massive variety of showcases and information.
Interesting for adults and children alike, I would highly recommend visiting.

An amazing museum. Full of amazing things. Well worth a visit.
H. T.
Amazing day out for the family. If you like learning about history, wildlife etc this is a good place to visit
R. L.
Strangest and, yet, one of the most interesting museums that I've ever been to. If you have the time, definitely add this to your itinerary.
a. f.
Very nice but terrible lighting
A. H.
Wow! What a great museum! The display of all objects is very cleverly done. It is interesting and fun, suitable for all ages and for every taste. Highly recommend
h.
Absolutely amazing museum. It's just behind the natural history museum and is beyond anything I expected. Filled to the rafters with curios and incredible pieces of history. Allow plenty of time for your visit, an hour and a half was only just enough to rush around the ground floor and take a peek at the natural history museum.
J. A.
Fascinating place and lots to see. Seems very good for families with kids.
B. D.
Brilliant place to spend a few hours soaking up the history
A. M.
An excellent museum but the removal of the shrunken heads is politically correct nonsense. We must learn from and understand history, both good and bad...
R. Z.
Shockingly entertaining!
Love it!
P. S.
So many things to see!
d. g.
Brilliant museum especially for its many artifacts and stunning architecture.
B. A.

M. M.
Fascinating collection of artefacts. Well worth a visit, especially if you are already at the natural history museum.
J. L.
The best museum ever. Packed with every wondrous object you can think of. And so many people don't know it exists within the Natural History Museum. It's like a giant cabinet of curiosities.
J. A.
Informative. Good size for children and adults without being too overwhelming. Highly recommend

The best museum I have ever been to. It's an absolute treasure trove. My kids loved the tribal section with the shrunken heads. I have been several times and will return.

The museum is nice and I understand why people love it. It is really complete and show many practice from all around the world. However, for me, it was way too many thing and you can't really focus on anything.

A cornucopia of delights, coming to terms with its history

Wonderfully ecclectic although could do with a touch more space - so much stuff in a small museum
J. K.
Brilliant museum with great exhibits not what I expected a pleasant surprise.

One of the finest museums in the world. Packed full of curious and interesting things. Organised in a fascinating way, by function rather than chronology. Go!

This has gotta be the most comprehensive and dense museum on the planet. It's only a small subsection of a larger museum but the amount of history and artifacts here is mind-blowing! They're literally piled as packed in as possible and this museum alone would take days to soak it all in.

This is one of the best museums in the UK and well worth a visit. From shrunken heads, masks and toys to fire starting tools and trinkets just wonderful. Wheelchair access is good and the building is stunning.

Great Museum in a Victorian style, but with many added more recent displays.
B. S.
Fantastic museum and a great place for all ages. Friendly and helpful staff. Great facilities.
A. S.
Traditional, not very hands on. Good range on display and not too large so you can tour in an afternoon.
C. D.
Been twice with children aged from 3-12, great museum. Need to get back without children to be able to spend more time there and take in more of the information and displays.

An unforgettable journey of hystory.

This is a very cool, eclectic collection of things. It starts out being more about natural history, animal skeletons, and taxidermy, but go downstairs and it's more about human cultural artifacts. It's worth a visit, even just because it's free. Don't miss the shrunken heads downstairs in the centre!
