A truelly amazing experience. A great example of a Victorian fort. Amazing tunnels to explore with history to take you back to a bygone Era. We stayed for 3 nights and had the entire place to ourselves. Go to the landmark trust website for more info.

Had a fantastic time at the Open day exploring all that the Fort has to offer. Very informative tours and walks. Highly recommended 👌

We attended open day at Crownhill fort. It was good, just a shame we didn't know about getting the bands for tunnels tour. Hopefully we can see them next time.

Our second time here at the fort, being an ex RE I found the history behind it and the construction of it explained how it actually worked. The collection of arty pieces was fascinating too, Moncrieffs disappearing gun, a unique in the world, example of excellence in design to solve a real problem. The fort is in great condition overall with subterranean tunnels leading to gun emplacements best accessed in the evenings when you have the entire place to yourself. The accommodation is old world Victorian/Edwardian style with a superb kitchen with everything you could possibly need.

This early Victorian Fort, operated by the Landmark Trust, is well worth making an effort to visit. They have open days throughout the year, but it is not open on a daily basis. They have live firing of cannons and rifles (all using blanks of course). There are tunnels and rooms aplenty, and two barrack rooms are presented in the 1890's and 1940's style. There are toilets but no catering facilities as such. They even have volunteers who dress up in Victorian clothing.
UPDATE: Since posting this, CF now have catering. These are usually outside suppliers who operate from purpose built vans.

Lovely visit today never been before and I live next door to it. Well worth a visit, hard to know when it is open. Opening times may be on landmark trust Web site take drinks and food

Excellent day out. Booked tickets as only limited amount of people allowed in. Got there early and booked tunnel tour, by 12, all tours had been booked, so disappointment for those arriving later.
Always knew this fort was there but never visited. Really interesting, buildings in good state of repair, 2 small museums that showed life in the barracks in the 1800s and second World War. Display of mitary vehicles and 2 gun firings. Small coffee van on site, very good coffee.
Very enjoyable day, gates closed at 3pm. Here's hoping more open days are scheduled.

We were helping clear out rubbish in the countermining tunnels. Then we were shown around the Fort. Very interesting. Plenty of car parking. We'll worth a visit

Lovely evening in Crownhill Fort, Museums at Night event with the 4 inch Field Gun Firing at 16.30 hours and the 32 pounder dating back to 1829 Firing at 19.00 hours.

Had a great few hours visiting. Visitors are allowed to see all of the grounds, except the tunnels, on the open day. There were demonstrations with both guns and cannons and lots of things to see and learn.

Only had a chance to visited the site in the evening after work when it was closed sadly. I had a quick look round the outside which you can walk around. Parking was limited/ nonexistent.

Went on bat walk. Very interesting and organised. Talk about the fort to start with giving its history.

Had a Fantastic stay, thought we'd seen the Fort the first night but upon entering the living room we realised we had missed a section and spent the second night exploring as well. Thoroughly enjoyed the Fort being myself a volunteer at the Western Heights Preservation Society and enjoyed Plymouth and its defences. Highly recommended especially if you're a Fort volunteer in another area.

Worth a look, respect to the volunteers

A beautiful historic landmark. An educational place with still working well maintained guns and cannons previously used in our World War Fights
Truly beautiful throughout

Fantastic place, the staff take pride in the fort and have lots of knowledge about the fort and the guns/canons. Interesting day out and a fun way to learn for our children. Definitely worth visiting, our second time and still enjoyable.

Great day out...ashamed to say never been although it's on my doorstep.

Went for a guided bat walk here with the family in September. It was very good. A brief talk about the types of bats in the UK with some props and photos and then out for a walk around the site with bat detectors. It took a while to track them but once we found them it was excellent. Would recommend

A good place to visit and a nice walk round the perimeter.
The arranged day was not well arranged however, a small fridge with cans of coke and small number of ice creams available and it was a hot day.
Still unsure why we paid £12 for entry tickets since it all seemed to be free.

Amazing historic unique place to stay, with 1/2 mile or more tunnels around the battlements to explore, cannons, disappearing guns et al to see

Fantastic place to stay, brilliant tunnels to explore. Our young trumpeter even got to play a fanfare on a real parade ground. The long corridor was fabulous for soft archery.

Owned by Landmark Trust, this is an amazing place to stay. Great for a family gathering.

Fabulous place to visit. Stooped in history and awesome. Loved the displays of rifle firing, cannon firing and talks alongside. Great afternoon out. Highly recommend.

Friendly helpful staff and volunteers made the event we attended really interesting and enjoyable. The place is well restored and looked after. Worth a visit.

Historic Crownhill Fort is a "Palmerston Fort" and was built to protect Plymouth from attacks from the French in Victorian times.
Well worth a visit and a walk around the exterior is historically wonderful with a lot of battlements and open space.
Tranquil and beautiful setting.
Be aware that the Fort may be closed and this can be frustrating for casual visitors. A walk around the outside would possibly make up for a wasted journey.

The grounds are incredible. The landmark suite is not only good value for money but also an insanely special place to stay. The fort as a wedding venue with Orange Chilli is magical and stupidly awesome.
