Reviews of Ribchester Roman Museum
S.
Despite its' small size, the museum is well worth a visit if you are interested in history / Roman Britain. Friendly, helpful staff are available should you have any questions, and the Roman finds in the museum are supplemented by actual (outdoor) remains of the Roman presence in Ribchester (the Roman Fort Granaries, plus a Roman Bath House nearby). The admission fee is a nominal £4.0 for Adults (March 2022), and there are toilets here - but no refreshments (- there are pubs with grub nearby).

Small and interesting little museum. Not to expensive. Children can take part in a quiz seeking out the answers from the display. Staff very friendly and helpful. Nice walk by the river and the roman baths remains as a short distance from the museum. All wheelchair accessible. Parking in the chuch car park which they ask for a donation in the honesty box
P. J.
An excellent museum. The trail through it gives a very detailed and interesting view of life in Ribchester in Roman times.
When we were there there was also an Iron Age exhibition upstairs which looked a bit poor but turned out to be really good as the people running it were very enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

Small collection well presented with detailed information. A few special exhibits. We'll worth a visit and wonderful to walk around Ribchester and imagine the Roman presence there. Ruins of baths a short walk from the museum. Parking on site or palk at the village car park and walk the short distance.

A lovely compact museum with lots of interesting educational information and a great selection of artifacts. Perfect for a child who is learning about Romans or had learnt about them. My 9 year old loved it. A wander to the Roman baths is also worth while, providing of course you've a good playful imagination!

A little gem of a museum. Lots of interesting items, all well presented. Only £4.00 for adult entry. Free (limited) parking right outside. Short walk to Roman Baths (by the river) and Roman Granaries (next to the church).
D. A.
Really interesting place to visit whilst in Ribchester. It is small, but some of the local finds are amazing.
Obviously a lot of time spent documenting the timeline which includes pre-Roman as well.
The curator is very well informed and explained some of the artefacts we could expect to see on our tour.
Downside - never did find the baths which are away from the museum itself, near the pub (the Bull) apparently.
P.S. The C of E Church next door (St Wilfreds) also offers an interesting slice of history.
Recommended especially as it is a very small entry fee (with discounts for age groups).

Only a small museum but some lovely items if interested in roman history, not at all expensive. knowledgeable staff very friendly and helpful.parking can be bit of a pain.can park on church grounds directly next to musuem or main road.some streets quite narrow if not familiar with area.hold regular interaction exhibitions and things for children.roman bath remains a nice walk not more than 10mins from there along the river.pub near by. overall nice few hours out.never overly busy.pity more people dont about it
C. E.
Brilliant little museum full of great artifacts found in the local area. Quite immersive and great for kids and adults. Cheap entry and close by (walking distance) to 2 Roman ruins (Bath house and Granary).

Place to learn about past things like Romans and I felt very comfortable with the person who who showed me and my class around. His name was Patrick.
We tried on stuff like Roman uniform, held swords and shields and I really liked it.
It’s really nice. I would go to this place again.
L. A.
Love this museum! It's very small, but very informative. They give out quizzes for children as well.
N. B.

J. K.
Great place. Time Team did some excavations here. Loved it. Even though I was here late November 2017. (sorry about late review)
J.
Really interesting little museum, it is really small but for a few pounds entry fee it is totally worth it, lots of information and a fair amount of artifacts, the kids quiz helps keep them interested and if the weathers good the bath house ruins are just around the corner.

Was shut Wen I was there but was passing through so wanted to check it out and was not shocked at how beautyful the buildings are including the old church that stands there aswell are and was delighted to see it and it's a great place to bring your kids for a day out and there is also a bath house on site to from the same time period of I remember correctly
J. G.
Its a small museum but however it didn't let me down Because it contains enough information about roman history
B. A.
Brilliant place to see and very surpsing how good it was for the size of it. Grandkids doing roman history at achool so with the weather being so bad though as a family we would kill some time here. Brilliant quiz for the kids at the museum to keep them occupied and to top it off followed by a fabulous pub meal afterwards nearby at the Ribchester Arms pub.
D. S.

Very difficult to find but like most things that require effort, well worth it.
L. B.
Fantastic small museum, with very good interpretation. Combined with the quiz, this really held an 8 year old's attention (and adults!). The craft activities (not on every day) were fantastic and excellent value. The volunteer today (12/8/19) was lovely: friendly, helpful and great with the children, helping them try on replica armour. We spent about 3 hours there! One very happy and engaged child and a relieved adult!
H. R.
Interesting and informative displays about the history of Roman Ribchester, including a computerised simulation of what the fort and surroundings were like. Well worth a visit.
M. B.
Very interesting exhibits, imaginatively arranged.
J. G.
A small museum tucked away near the river. Some good displays and they had an interactive Iron Age display in the day we came. They had an activity sheet which entertained my children (8 and 6).
S. A.
Great spot to go to for a day out. There is a river across the road making an excellent picnic space if you wanted to make a day of it. Their collection though truly fascinating lacks something of an interactive nature that could engage children for longer than 10 min. There is a really good play park neArby and equally good coffe shop on the park to placate or win over any disgruntled children. Well worth the historical visit.
T. T.
Small museum but with numerous Roman artifacts, including tombstones.Roman bath ruins nearby. All set in the idyllic village of Ribchester.

It's a great museum for the local history of Ribchester in its Roman context. For a small village it's very impressive but you would have to be interested in Ribchester specifically.
