Thoroughly enjoyable. Hosted by Nate, this time round we were in the Alcatraz room as a birthday treat for one of our party. The clues were definitely more involved than the Titanic experience we'd done before. With only an hour this time rather than 90 minutes, the pressure was on, but we made the escape with just over three and a half minutes remaining. Would recommend for anyone looking to do something that little bit different and put your brain juices flowing. 5 stars.

Really good time thank you! Out host, Chloe, was really friendly and lovely, and the room (we did titanic) had a really good mix of puzzle types and was super engaging. I loved the storyline, and we thouroughly enjoyed ourselves! The only thing I will say is that the room was a bit easier than other rooms we've done in the past- although I still preferred it :)

Highly recommended!! The staff were fun and enthusiastic (Jade was our designated staff member) and she explained everything very clearly before we started. The escape room was really fun and the puzzles were challenging but accessible. We got a free team photo at the end as well. I will definitely book another one soon!

Would 100% recommend this for all families with adults, we was welcomed in straight away be a lovely lady named Erin. She talked us through the whole way from the instructions/ brief and giving us clues when needed. We managed to escape with 1 second remaining and was also given bracelets and a discount on our next booking. Our family did the Alcatraz room and we will definitely be back for a different room next birthday treat. Thank you to Erin for making this a great experience for my brother's 23rd birthday gift.

We did the Alcatraz room and whilst I really enjoyed it my girlfriend didn't. No mention of jump scares (or so I'm told) and ended up on edge the whole game. Some very clever puzzles that we hadn't seen before and we managed to escape (barely). Would definitely recommend this room to people who are okay with a more eerie atmosphere and scares.

We did the alcatraz themed room as a group of 4 and had a brilliant time. We escaped with a few seconds to spare and after 4 hints 🤭. Adam was the host that night and took great care of us, setting the scene and causing a few screams 😆 The only criticism of the game was that one prop in particular was very worn so it was very difficult to get the letters from it, especially given that the room is pretty darkly lit in the location that you have to put the prop to make it work. (Torches provided but still too hard to read). The venue was hot so keep that in mind with clothing. Parking was incredibly difficult so do leave plenty of time to find a space- lots of hospital parking or residents only. Will absolutely book another of the rooms with them in the future!

I should preface this by saying we’ve already done the Extinct and the Titanic escape rooms with Houdinis and LOVED them both. I’ve done a fair few rooms over the country and extinct was the best one I’ve ever done. With that in mind we booked the Alcatraz one, and unfortunately were so disappointed. Apart from the fact that the puzzles were pretty much all number related, and therefore did become a bit samey, it was just far far far too hot in there. To the point that we couldn’t wait to get out. I don’t see that you can have rooms underground like that in the summer and not have some form of air on or at least a few decent fans going. It unfortunately just ruins the experience. Also I would say you could really tell a difference between the quality of the extinct and Alcatraz rooms- it was night and day difference. I would recommend titanic/extinct- in a heartbeat! But personally I wouldn’t do Alcatraz

We have visited twice at both Southampton beaches and the rooms are exceptional!!! May in particular was a wonderful host at Hexmore - don’t be out off by the 1/5 difficulty, hexmore is hilarious, fun and totally wacky with the rooms you must try it and actually quite tricky in parts! We have been to titanic escape room as well and they are both incredible - Houdini’s rooms are way above all others - I haven’t seen any better designs, layouts or unique features such as these - they are a class act! We have already booked our 3rd room with them and cannot wait! Thanks for having us

Me and my girlfriend did the Alcatraz room and it was amazing, the attention to detail was brilliant. We had Adam guiding us and he couldn’t have been better Adam alone would be a reason to go back but ontop of the escape room we’ll definitely be returning!!

Did the Hexmore escape room with a family group of six including children, where English was not their first language. This escape room is great fun for a family unit, everyone has to cast spells together so no-one gets left out. Recommended.

A good experience with friendly staff. We did the Titanic escape room. It could do with some ventilation, or at the very least some air freshener as it all smells a bit funky. Some fly spray would be good too.

Took my son and his friends. They loved it. Managed escape with 1 second remaining. When we arrived the staff member was asleep on the sofa. The toilet is a health hazard with the filthiest towel I've seen. Don't use it. The waiting area is very down at heal, tatty.

Me and my family had our first ever escape room experience at Houdini’s escape room. We returned to complete another because we enjoyed it so much! The staff are incredibly talented and they bring the story and characters involved into life. The escape rooms are very well thought out and are extremely interesting. We had such a great time!

Wow. This place really is magical. I took our two kids (9 and 8) in the school holidays and we absolutely LOVED it! They were a touch nervous (because we’ve managed to raise them to be scared of anything and everything new. Sigh) but the wonderful Alicia put them at ease straight away and from the moment we stepped into the Potions Classroom they were hooked. There were regular and genuine squeals of delight when clues were solved (virtually always by the kids as I was a right doughnut and often had to ask Alicia for help!) This escape room (which is actually 4 or 5 rooms - a terrific surprise to us) looks fantastic and the puzzles are brilliantly clever and varied. Highly, highly recommended.

I did the Titanic escape room with my mum and sisters. We had an amazing time. There are lots of mini games/puzzles to solve and different areas to explore. We were a team of four and everyone was able to feel included and help solve the different tasks. If you get stuck you can ask for hints. The hints are great because they are subtle and help you to solve it on your own without directly giving you the answer. We couldn't stop talking about the escape room for the rest of the day. It's a truly immersive experience. I had never done one before but now I want to go back and do all of them!

Everything about the experience was incredible! The staff were very welcoming, friendly, and hospitable, providing complimentary beverages for our briefing, and even popcorn during the instructional video. The ambience of Houdini was fantastic, as soon as you enter the building, you are transported into a 1940s 'noir' setting, with every single room having great attention to detail in setting the scene. For both my partner and I, this was our first escape room experience, and we did it just the two of us. It was incredibly challenging, but the Game Master was always on hand in moments of need, with effective hints, that did not detract and take away from the experience. We would have not made it out alive without them, we managed to escape with just 7 seconds to spare, it was a very intense! I highly recommend this experience, especially as part of a group of 4+ people, it is great for team building. I cannot wait for their upcoming Titanic experience. 5*s.

I'm a huge fan of escape rooms and usually try to fit one in every time I travel. I've seen loads of different ones at various levels of quality, and this was an extremely unexpected surprise. We originally signed up to do extinct (the dinosaur one) and was so impressed with every level of the experience between the design, immersion, attention to detail, and the role play of the game master, we signed up to do the rest of their rooms in Southampton over the next several days. Houdini's escape is running a world class escape room operation here (no joke, based on my experience) and I would definitely recommend making a stop. They've set a new bar as far as I'm concerned!

Did the escape from alcatraz. Bit heavy and over egged on the safety talks, though free popcorn helped. Set design was good. Be sure to look at all fixtures and furnishings carefully as unlike other escape rooms there are key elements that do not have pointer clues to them, which is a bit of a design flaw. Hints are done in person by the presenter, which I thought was a bit intrusive. The set was good with unique puzzles though, so please do not take my minor critiques too seriously.

Just done the Alcatraz escape room with a group of 4 adults in onslow road. From start to finish you were immersed in the experience and made to feel comfortable! Our game master was a lovely girl whome i didnt catch the name of (sorry!) She was so bubbly and after our intro was very in character. We loved the clue distribution compared to other places we have been to and managed to escape with just 5 seconds but also using less than 5 hints 😁 Without giving much away in terms of the experience, the room were well laid out and everything was clear and precise with a purpose. Clues were thought out and logical, nothing dubious or farfetched. Would recommend to anyone, and will 1000000 percent be back to do another. Thankyou very much to our game master and to the other gentleman behind the scenes.

Great escape room, really well run by friendly welcoming staff. We had to rearrange our original date at the last minute for reasons beyond our control but they were really understanding and accommodated us brilliantly. When we finally did the escape room we were really impressed with the setup, all very well themed, some refreshments supplied while we waited to go in and then a challenging and fun escape room experience for the next hour. We needed small amount of help to get through but it worked really well with nice non-linear puzzles to figure out. Highly recommended, will definitely return for the second titanic room!

I have done a few escape rooms and wasn't sure what to expect from Houdini's and wasn't sure whether this was the best place to take my mate who has never done an escape room before. However, I am so pleased I booked here. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. In fact, the best escape room I've been to.It is the same format as other rooms I've been to (which I was pleased about), but they have gone the extra mile with this, putting together great elements from other escapes as well as their own twists. I won't give anything away though...Definitely go - I'm sure you won't be disappointed. We'll be back when the Titanic escape opens. Really nice blokes running it too. Extremely welcoming, passionate about escape rooms and a family business. PERFECT!

For a long time I had wanted to complete an escape room and as a team at work we booked onto ‘escape the titanic’. The escape room was such a fun activity and great for working within a team also team building! We opted for Titanic as this was our first attempt at a escape room and the success rate/ease was higher than Alcatraz. The room had an 1.5 hour time limit and could hold up to 7 players. It was a great bit of fun and challenging with the puzzles! Definitely going to go back and complete the escape Alcatraz game asap! The guy who worked there, Paul was extremely friendly, knowledgable and passionate about the experience. Definitely worth going to and a lot of fun indeed!

All 5 of us had such a good time tackling this tricky escape room, but we managed it with a little over 2 minutes to spare....! Alcatraz was my first escape room experience and I loved it! The puzzles were really well thought out, and presented a good level of challenge. I really liked that it was non-linear as well - made you think a littler harder ;) We escaped with about 10 minutes to go! I've now also been to the Titanic room and it was SO great. Such an immersive experience. I loved every second of it. I didn't find it as challenging as Alcatraz because it was more of a linear story but the puzzles completely blew my mind! Escaped with about 4min left. I adore their lobby - it really sets the mood :) They offer free drinks while you wait and free popcorn and skittles while you're being briefed. If you manage to escape, you get a cute little keepsake. Houdini's has really set a high bar for my escape room expectations.

I came here with six friends for my birthday and really enjoyed it. the puzzles are so clever and we'll thought out and I love how they all fit together. the suspense is heightened with the clock counting down. this is great if you want to try something different and like to think outside the box. the lady was lovely and very helpful too. The second Houdini's room I have done, and absolutely fantastic. We did the Titanic room. Puzzles are clever and interesting and the amount of effort put into the atmosphere is above and beyond. Very reasonably priced given the quality of the rooms (plus free snacks beforehand!) I really enjoyed how they have tried to include as much actual history as possible too. I think the only criticism I could give is that for larger groups the Titanic room is a little cramped (which to be honest helps create the right atmosphere). For larger groups I'd recommend the Extinct room at the nearby Tenpin Auckland road location (the first Houdini's room I did - also fantastic). We visited (Titanic) in August 2019. There is some free parking on a nearby road (alongside the hospital, Lyon Street), but it is limited to 2 hours for most of the week - no restrictions on Sundays though. There is also a small pay and display car park a bit further down the road (66 Onslow Road). Both places often fill up quite quickly though.

We did "Escape from Alcatraz", and it was fantastic. The room was well themed and immersive, with both the decor and puzzles both contributing to the atmosphere. We even found the lobby and micro-cinema (you'll see what I mean...) to be extremely well done, and really got us hyped up for the room itself. The puzzles were challenging and engaging, with plenty for everyone to do, and everyone managed to solve at least something (or accidentally lean on an important clue). The staff were friendly too, making us all feel comfortable in the experience, especially the people that hadn't done a room before - so cheers Sam! All in all, I'd heartily recommend this to anyone! Wow! This is a unique experience that I would totally recommend! Amazingly good fun and brain engaging too! It's quite difficult but you can ask for hints if you need to. Couldn't believe that we managed to escape with 3 minutes to spare! To begin with, Jonathan spun us a story about the mission and then set us onto the task! Then Sarah ran our game giving us just the right number of clues. This was a brilliant experience and a perfect activity for a group of friends looking for something different to do. We were all excited beforehand and it didn't disappoint once we were there. Firstly, the owners are lovely, couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly (even when we were running a little late). The briefing and chat beforehand helped get a sense of the business and how much love and attention has gone into setting it up...and it really shows. The attention to detail is great and that's even before you go into the room. The actual 'escape' itself was challenging and exciting in equal measure. We were really trying not to ask for clues but we had to give in a couple of times and it was worth it as we escaped with a minute and half to go. The way everything is set up is brilliant and kept us engaged from start to finish. I can't recommend this enough...we were so impressed that we're already talking about getting a date in for when the Titanic room opens.

Went to Houdini's escape room in Southampton today. On arrival the staff were very enthusiastic and clearly very passionate about their job, which created a great atmosphere. Four of us took part in the Alcatraz room. I have been to an escape room before but it was nothing compared to this one. It was a lot better than I had initially expected! The rooms and scenarios were very realistic and it was clear a lot of effort and work has been put in to create the best experience for their customers. Had an amazing time here and I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone visiting Southampton or anyone who is looking for something to do. They are also very helpful, if you get stuck they do give you clues so you can move on. Very excited to try and escape the new Titanic room!

We surprised a friend for her Birthday with a trip to Houdini's Escape Rooms. It was the highlight of the birthday weekend! Only one out of five had experienced an escape room before so we didn't quite know what to expect. The one who had done rooms before said it was the best he'd tried! Our Games Master was really friendly and offered hints when we asked. It was such an immersive experience and actually felt magic the way things worked. It was so much fun, I can't recommend enough. I can't wait for the Titanic room experience to open!

We went as a team of seven, and although it was slightly cramped at times, it didn't feel claustrophobic and it was very enjoyable working as a team to escape the dining Titanic. I have done a few escape rooms now and booked the Alcatraz room for my boyfriends birthday. Originally it was for just us two but we decided we would add two others due to the difficulty level. The staff were welcoming and provided different refreshment and entertainment before we entered the room. The room was interesting and there was always something to look at and figure out. With the Alcatraz room you weren’t allowed as many clues as deemed necessary and we needed four in total. This is by far the best escape room I have done so far. Would definitely recommend.

Escaped from Alcatraz... But take me back! My group and I had our first experience of an escape room at Houdini's and we loved it! As soon as we turned up we were made to feel very welcome by our hosts who not only spent time getting to know us, but they also created a strangely tense and fun build up - relaying lots of interesting historical information about the building and their escape rooms. We were also offered a complimentary drink before we started. The room my group and I tackled was the Alcatraz room, which you have up to an hour to complete. The puzzles range in difficulty throughout, leaving you very satisfied when you finally solve them. Hints are available and for the few that my group used, they were delivered more like a nudge in the right direction, as opposed to simply telling you exactly what you were missing - which my group appreciated as we were there to challenge ourselves after all! The owners of Houdini's are bubbling with their passion for escape rooms and that translates into an extremely enjoyable experience. They should be proud of themselves for what they have created. We will be returning!

Add to this a welcome drink on arrival, a mini vintage cinema with free popcorn and skittles for the health and safety/info video and then an absolutely genius escape room. We did manage to escape the room with minutes to spare but we were really put to the test. Rachael was a great gamesmaster and we are really looking forward to coming back again to test the new Titanic room when it opens.

I've never done an escape room experience before but Houndinis has set the bar extremely high. I won't go into any spoilers but there's a lot of surprises to be had. We had a group of 6 completing the Escape from Alcatraz scenario and it's great fun with some really brilliant puzzles. Gemma was brilliant, really welcoming and friendly. If you're really struggling, she will give you a little hint but nothing too obvious so you still get a sense of satisfaction. Genuinely can't recommend it enough. They're opening up an Escape from the Titanic room soon and we're definitely planning to return.

WOW, what an experience.... We were unsure what to expect and somewhat anxious. That was the last time I had that feeling as I entered the location and was met by our extremely friendly and knowledgeable host. We were offered hot and cold refreshments before we were shown into a room for our briefing. After a quick 'comfort' break we were shown into the room...... Well, what fun we had. The next 60 minutes full of what, where, why and hows and plenty of head scratching flew past. It was great Puzzle solving non of which can be revealed here. Brought this for my boyfriend for his 21st birthday and he loved it! It was one of the best most unique things I have ever done and would thoroughly recommend to anyone else. Last night we a myself and 3 friends challenged ourselves with Houdini's Alcatraz escape room. From the moment we walked through the door, we were greeted by fantastic staff and guided through the rules and tips for our experience, which was so helpful as none of us had ever visited an escape room before. The room itself was incredible. So many puzzles that really challenged everyone in the team and our game master, Freddie was brilliant and added an extra level of immersion to an already immersive and adrenaline fueled experience. An hour in this room was a perfect amount of time to solve puzzles whilst adding pressure and challenge, encouraging us to work as a real team to figure out the mystery. Luckily we escaped with only 3 seconds left on the clock! We had a blast! We are looking forward to returning to Houdini's to try out their other escape rooms, Titanic and Extinction. I would like to thank the team at Houdini's and especially Freddie for a wonderful, immersive and challenging evening!

Really good escape rooms (best I've been to so far), charming and helpful staff. They provide a good blend between letting you figure out things for yourself and giving clues or hints when you get stuck. They won't allow you to get stuck on technicalities (e.g. not being able to open a padlock despite having the right combination). They get extra points for atmosphere - the Alcatraz escape room had me filled with genuine suspense, which isn't common. All in all, would (and absolutely will) go again.

Just got out from the titanic escape room with 5 people. Although we weren't the smartest we got out with 12 minutes to spare. What is really handy is the ability to call for help. The clues aren't the clearest but really makes you think. If you are going to try the Titanic escape room make sure all of your players are able to crawl on your hands and knees for a short distance more than once as that is the only way to get to the next room for quite a while if you can't them maybe choose another escape room instead. The staff were absolutely lovely and the will offer you drinks at the start. We had an amzing time and would love to do another one soon.

This is the first time any of us had tried an escape room, and I think we hit the jackpot when we visited Houdini's. We visited as a family from ages 10 years to 70 years for a birthday treat. We loved the entrance, drinks and welcome, and also the mini cinema where we had our instructions on how to play. The actual escape room was very inventive, with lots of surprises! The host helped us out just enough, and escaped with 3 minutes to spare. We were expecting lots of complicated maths puzzles and cryptic crosswords, but nothing of the sort, so give it a go even if you are rubbish at puzzles! Thank you for an amazing experience. Our only worry is that nothing else will live up to Alcatraz- but will try your titanic room when we can.

Holy meatballs batman, I wish I could erase my memory of this evening so I can do this again. The guys who run it are wonderful (Hi Drew!). They never make you feel silly for missing something and are genuinely funny. A few tips. 1) It gets pretty warm in the rooms bring layers you can take off. 2) Where comfy but practical clothes (don't worry its nothing athletic). 3) If you get stuck use your clues. Especially at the start because the is a lot to do and you want to give yourself maximum time for the later puzzles.

We then got taken to the cinema on board the Titanic and that is when it happen, the Titanic hit an iceberg and we had 90 mins to get off the ship.......... Well I'm here writing this so we made it 😊. The Room 5 stars The story of the Titanic is told well and makes you feel really immersed in the game. Puzzles 4 Stars Are good but a few could be make a bit hard. Staff 5+ Stars Amy was amazing best games host we have had. We want Amy again. Location Very easy to find, just remember to check your email has they have two sites in different parts of Southampton city. Overall We had a great time, easily one of the best escape room we have every done.

The games masters left you to solve the challenges unless you asked for help, which proved to be a perfect approach. If you haven't done an escape room before you really should give this one a go. It's challenging - but all the answers are there and you don't need any specialist knowledge or mental skills, just observation, trying things, and some guesswork which makes it suitable for everyone - you don't have to be really into crosswords or chess or maths or anything. The people who created/run it are clearly really keen on puzzles and have made an intricate and pleasingly immersive experience. I did it with two other adults and we finished with just over one minute to spare (with a few teeny tiny hints). I booked this to kill some time for the day after a theatre/hotel trip for my wife's 50th. I was a bit worried as I didn't know what to expect and my wife didn't seem too enthusiastic lol We needn't have worried as it exceeded all our expectations! The host was very friendly and made us feel very welcome and explained everything thru with us. You don't know really what to expect but it just seems to unravel. As you descend the stairs the temperature dropped before entering the authentic cell.... I won't say anymore but the hour whizzed by and with just 2 of us, with a few clues sent our way, we made it out to tell our story... It's probably easier with 4-6 people working on all the clues and riddles but we thoroughly enjoyed, in fact my wife became quite engrossed towards the end and got quite stressed we would be sent to the chair! A brilliant experience and helped by friendly staff, great set up, easy free parking round the corner and 5 mins from the hotel we were staying at-The Jury's Inn.
