Reviews of Etruria Industrial Museum
Nice museum showing how bone china was made back In the heyday of pottery production. The steam engine works and is fired up on select days so try and catch it on one of those if you can. Friendly knowledgeable volunteer staff and a nice cafe
I think you need to be really interested in the subject to enjoy this museum. Nice little tea room with second hand books for sale. Canal lock nearby which is interesting. They have some activities for children too.
First visit to the museum for a private event.
Blown away by the friendly and knowledgeable volunteers who are obviously passionate about the history they are preserving.
Will definitely be back when there is a steam weekend, with a visit to the tearoom.
Attended vintage engine day, lots to see, parking good.Museum very interesting 👍
Quite an interesting place to visit. The volunteers are friendly, caring and very knowledgeable. Would definitely recommend for anyone interested in industrial archaeology.
Wonderful place ,pity more people don't know about ,right by the canal, cafe ,lift if interested in our industrial past take a look
Wonderful place to visit if you want to see a working museum .
Very educational real treat seeing the steam engines working just shows how people used to work
Lovely museum with a nice Canal Festival every year
The flint and bone mill was amazing. All the volunteers were friendly and knowledgeable. The boiler was running so we saw all of the working parts moving. Had entertaining time in the boiler room where the young man demonstrated with a hoop the gap he has to crawl through to clean it.
A bonus on that day was a display of static engines right beside the scenic canals.
Nice looking museum along the canal. It will be great when it re opens
Take a walk a enjoy...
Very interesting place worth a visit.
Really interesting to see the history and method of making bone China. Dates from 1857. However only open on notified days.
I really enjoyed my time there during the canal festival in 2018.
Interesting place for history and an explore.
Excellent place to visit, we visited as part of the national heritage weekends. Staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. It was great to the engine in action and to see and feel the power and energy in it. Great place to take kids as you can see the engineering up close, the gears etc.
Very friendly tutors very educational children loved the morning fitted in with our topic
Interesting place to visit with information about the area and the canal, which once played such an important role in the transportation of goods to and from Stoke on Trent.
Here also throughout the year the museum plays host to many events, ranging from boat festivals, craft fairs and even car shows.
Worth a visit even if there's no event on, it's still a nice spot to walk around and pop into the museum tearoom for a brew afterwards.
The wettest day of the wettest week - walk along the Trent and Mersey Canal in the steps of Josiah Wedgwood. Highspot was a picnic under our umbrella in Etruria's picnic place - an old gasometer. Life doesn't;t get much better than this!
Very interesting museum next to start of caldon canal where it branches off from Trent and Mersey. Lovely walks along the canals and there's a lock there as well. Small cafe fairly big car park. Great canal festival every June.
Closed. Website shows open but not correct.
Went on a steam day. Just amazing, to see the boiler at work. The huge steam engine, which only needs 5psi for it to work. Then to see all the grinding stones that once crushed the bone and flint into powder. The volunteers are all very passionate about this and you can feel it. They have put their own money into getting this project running. It is part of stoke on trent heritage but it's also ours. If it wasn't for people like these this outing for me would not have taken place. I wish them well with the terrific work they all do. The tours they do are second to none. Very interesting.
This is rite up my street. It's not massive, would have to add a couple of other places to fill a whole day but it's a lovely place to visit, especially of your from the area. Anyone with an interest in old engines or the pottery industry should pay a visit.
Great place to learn a bit of history, clean toilets and a nice little cafe with absolutely lovely staff. The canal festival days are brilliant with something for everyone, can really recommend going.
Went for the boat festival and was a amazing day. Would of been a 5 apart from a staff member on the kids games hitting my nephew with a sand bag on purpose. My nephew is only 4 it was disgusting behaviour from a adult.
I went along to the Canal Festival on Sunday 3rd June 2018. It was a wonderful sunny day. There were lots of activities on and people were having fan.
Really interesting to how the old days work and the cars was nice attraction today
A small but fascinating little museum. Run by incredibly keen volunteers who are full of wonderful information. Don't miss the days when they have the steam engine running in the bone mill.
The boat rally was good but the museum was closed due to covid
Great place to visit and learn about our local history. Worth going when they have an event on and get the boiler and engine running
This is a brilliant visit, live music, lots of information about the canal and the house boats, good food, and lots of displays especially for children.
An open day with various stalls and stands : very interesting in a lovely setting. Good parking facilities.
Took our Guide's for a Tour around the Museum it was very interesting. Worth a trip found out a lot of things i didnt know about our area.
Great historic place 1857, both mill and blacksmith forge are still working but only on selected dates, so make sure before you visit.
A nightmare to get there with disabled by coach. Nice bridge across the canal pity it's got steps at either side.
Love it.
