Reviews of The National Brewery Centre
G. K.
What a brilliant day out...excellent. The music was out standing, the fly pass brilliant to see. And the kids just enjoyed everything. Oh and my little one stole the show, well she really got stuck in with her dancing. Until next time.
C. B.
Fantastic day out, took the tour and the guide Emily was superb, really made a good tour excellent. Very knowledgeable and informative. Had food and drinks tasting after the tour to match some food with types of beer and ale.
A. S.
Went for the scooter show but loved also seeing the horses and goats. Had lunch in the restaurant. Nice big portions. Good place to visit.
R. H.
Spent half a day here and thoroughly enjoyed it. The guide tour highly recommend ( which was roughly 2 hours) then went around again at a leisurely pace... Before going to the bar with the included beer tokens .
Was pleasantly surprised how big it is.
N. J.
We went to the Vintage Festival there which included admission to the museum. It was a wonderful day going back to the past with plenty to see. Learned lots about brewing industry. Very busy due to festival. On site parking made things easy as we didnt realy know the area.
C.
Enjoyable day out and tickets were very good value (£12 per adult). You can walk round at your own pace which was nice, there was also a tour going on so worth enquiring about having a guide who can share more of the history and info into the brewing process.
The food at the pub within the museum was also very good - hearty food like bangers and mash, and lasagne, as well as sandwiches.
Parking was free as well which was super.
A. Z.
Good day out with Cliff our tour guide who’s a right character and very knowledgeable, lots to see we could have spent longer looking around. Food in the pub was really good also
H. O.
Great tour around the Brewery museum by a very knowledgeable guide who took time to explain the history behind brewing and the social dynamics of how it supported and impacted on the local people. We had a few tastings of Bass and other local beers in the Brewery tap. Definitely worth the time and visit
B. S.
Please note visit was for a meeting in regards to a wedding. This is simply my impression of the venue and staff on my brief visit as had not booked any tours/packages.
So staff polite, professional and couldn't have been more helpful.
The parts of the building we saw both on the venue side and few bits of the museum we saw were brilliant. We will be making a return visit for a tour at some point in the future.
In regards to the wedding side of it. We got an excellent overview of the site and services they would offer. And honestly has almost definitely made our list for possible places to use.
V. S.
Decided on a guided tour and it was absolutely brilliant to be treated to a tour led by a gentleman who had worked within the breweries himself.
The guided tour was entertaining and informative, with plenty to do and look at on your way around.
Finishing up the tour at the Brewery Tap which is the on site pub and restaurant, means it's time to exchange your tasting tokens for either one large glass or 3 small glasses of local beer, lager, and / or ciders.
There are good toilet facilities and the gift shop is exceedingly well stocked. Enjoyed my day out immensely and will be back. Thank You.
J.
Very interesting place. Our guide Des was informative and funny. Free beer was a bonus.
T. B.
We had a Sunday lunch with my in laws and our children.
The portions were great, even the children's meals were decent, service was OK (we had too keep asking them for things rather than them being attentive) and we left happy and full. The children had fun on the little play area there too.
All in all a lovely meal.
A. R.
Very well organised. Good value for money and very informative. Visited as a family of four including 10 and 8 year old plus grandparents, there was something for everyone and I would definitely recommend a visit.
D. S.
We went to the Vintage Fair. It was a beautiful day lots to see & do. Well worth a visit.
d. e.
Very interesting time with my Son. Stopped for a pint in the pub there.
V. S.
We got married here on Saturday and had an amazing day, our guest all had an amazing time, staff were amazing and so helpful, food was great, and a fantastic day all round!
M. C.
Your tour guide made my extensive memorable
S. W.
Booked the 1.30pm guided tour which was amazing. Our guide was super knowledgeable and friendly, full of personal and local anecdotes which all added to the experience. Some parts of the museum were a bit tired and the cafe was a bit twee - all hot drinks from a push button machine and only pre-packed cakes/biscuits. Good selection of beers in the shop, plus a beer boutique which had even more choice. You could either use your beer tokens in the brewery tap at the end of the tour (1 pint or 3 different 1/3 pints) or swap them for a bottle from a selection in the shop - great idea for those driving. All in all a super afternoon which I would highly recommend. For reference, I went with my hubby and 14 year old son. There were some stairs, so may not be suitable for all.
L. W.
Great admission price, lots to see and do and added bonus of the vintage event when we came to visit. Perfect way to spend a few hours and the carvery was so delicious and Huge!
T. H.
A group of 9 of us had a fantastic tour from Terry. There was a lot to see both in terms of the brewing process but also the history of the site - it was fascinating. We particularly enjoyed Terry's explanations of various phrases. I'd always wondered where "rat arsed " came from and now I know!
P. G.
No need to book but be aware you may need to wait a while for the next tour. Our guide was excellent and full of information. The tour lasted 90 mins with the last stop being at the in-house pub where you can sample beers and ales (included with the tour ticket). If you wish you can swap your sample tokens with a bottle of a selection of beers from the shop to take home. Tip, look out for offers on Groupon!
A. T.
Came here as part of the Half Hogstead Brewery Tour, definitely recommended for beer lovers. Tour guide was friendly, knowledgeable and funny. Beer and food tasting was great, food was delicious. There is also a bar and a restaurant on site and a gift shop.
E. W.
The actual set up and things to see was lovely. Love that era ... the clothes the music what was available during the war. Great stalls.
Only down side was parking was ok but didn't seem like anyone was monitoring it and therefore a few just parked willy nilly making it difficult for other to get out. Also the young blonde haired girl /glasses and the other lady with her..serving the coffee etc was quite abrupt to a point of being rude. Not the impression you want to portray...otherwise a lovely day.
D. B.
Excellent! A must visit place on all real ale fans' bucket lists, especially if you like history and fun:- museum on the Worthington site, memorabilia shop, beer boutique with local ales, escape room and, last but not least, Brewery Tap bar and restaurant with proper pub food - drayman's lunch recommended - and three 1/3 pint sample tickets - there were 6 ales on September 5th, plus lagers and keg and soft for designated drivers. 😁
m. g.
The visit was arranged, in advance, for 50 retired Tesco employees & we had two expert tour guides to show seperate parties around.
The tours were interesting , informative & fun & are highly recommended by my very satisfied old friends and colleagues. Everyone I spoke to really enjoyed our visit , plus the cask beer tasting afterwards.
F. I.
Visited the Brewing Centre on a Sunday afternoon during the Queen's Jubilee celebrations. We have opted for a self guided tour to discover the museum in our own pace. There is a really interesting collection and some multimedia entertainment for 12.90GBP. Disappointingly many multimedia screen is either not working or out of date. The second statement in general describes the place. On the Queen's Jubilee celebration the vehicles on display weren't shiny, rather dusty. Except a couple of beautiful shire horses, goats and a few chicken everything are static. Regardless of above we enjoyed learning more about Burton Upon Trent, the beer making and the town's history. The biggest disppointment came at the end. At the entrance we were given 6 tokens to taste or purchase beer. Each token worth a third pint of beer or 3 tokens a pint or a bottle to take away. In the pub we have used 3 tokens to taste and saved the other 3 to purchase in the gift shop. I got excited to choose a nice ale from the local, Staffordshire selection, but at the till I have been told I can not have that. I can only choose from an other sets shelves. That narrow down the options to an OUT OF DATE selection of beer. Yes, OUT OF DATE, not exactly, but they ALL will expire in JULY. Absolute disappointment, but what to do. Took an ale from a brewery located in the nearby Worcectershire - there was no more local option - and bought an other 2 bottle of out of date beer from an other buckle for a pound. I may have too high expectations. After all hopefully the beer will be tasty.
D. H.
A really wet day what shall we do? The National Brewery Centre in Burton is supposed to be good. So off we went and we where not disappointed. The tour was given by an extremely friendly and knowledgeable guide who took us around in just over 1hr 45 minutes. Any questions asked he could answer. At the main desk you were given 3 tokens to try different beers at the end of the tour along with food if you wished. If you so wished you didn't need the guide and could spend as much more time looking and reading about the exhibits at your leisure. Photographs are aloud to remember your day. Take mints with you to feed the shire horses
j.
Visited with a group on voucher so half price . Not worh paying full price takes about 30min to get round a pint is included at the end.
T. I.
Great place for day out for beer aficionados. I especially liked their display of beer delivery vehicles. Beer shop offers good selection of beers you can't get elsewhere. Additionally on-site restaurant is a nice stopping point for a meal.
K. R.
A fun experience. The tour is a truly in depth history of brewing, the people involved in the process, how different beers were developed, and how it all was influenced by historic events and how the beer itself influenced historic events! A Must for any true beer aficionado!
A. V.
Great place. Very informative. Well worth a visit. From cart horses to all the transport. Great beer tastings. Food really good.
J. S.
Great day. Fly past was nice to see. Entertainment was good. Plenty to see.
Would go again.
E.
My dad used to work for Bass so this was a place we always used to visit as a child as he got free entry. I always loved the shire horses. I remember having my 7th birthday party there and a shire horse had a card round its next saying happy 7th birthday Emma. I alot of local brewing history in the museum. Nothing has really changed from when I was a kid. Even the buttons still work on the miniature train tracks :)
R. B.
Great tour with plenty of little nuggets of information. 3 free tasters with every adult entry as well as and amazing bar/restaurant on site. Free parking available.
P. G.
Very interesting, great to walk round. Had a guided tour and the guide was very knowledgeable and gave the history of Burton. Well worth a visit. Shame the Carling factory nextdoor isn't open for visitors!
M. B.
Nice museum. Carvery on Sunday. Nice play area for kids. On event day ticket is cheaper
S. G.
Great history of brewery in Burton on trent. A must visit if you visit this small cute town.
D. V.
What an amazing place... well designed to show Burton's heritage... brewing-wise. The museum collection is truly impressive but it's size doesn't do it justice.
Unfortunately... the age average of the visitors was in the high 70s... there's nothing wrong with that, just that my 6yr old was the ONLY child, make that the only person below 30 for the whole 3 hours we spent there. I'm not advocating taking children to breweries, but this is a museum AND the model train show was on. If they can't get children in for model trains...
If you plan to visit you MUST see the vehicle collection (Redbull cars got nothing on these).
A... and don't forget to bring cash... the card machine is only for purchases from the craft beers boutique.
C. A.
Great if you're into brewing lots to see, bit disappointed with some of the exhibits that had push buttons to highlight certain aspects of say a model display didn't work. Two delightfully enthusiastic men explained the working and history of a working, huge stationary engine. I used to ride one of the delivery bikes when I was young, brought back memories.
P. J.
I advise you take the guided tour. Absolute wealth of information that you wouldn't of otherwise got.
j. s.
We stopped off for coffee whilst doing the Burton Swans. Lovely coffee, shame they are served in throw away cups. Very friendly
C. B.
Guided tour very informative and interesting took approximately 1 hour 40 minutes. Got to try three different beers at the end. Must visit attraction if visiting Burton.
A. R.
Absolutely Brilliant. Spent 4 hours here. There is a first class cafe and Restaurant so plenty of choice be it a meal or snack. We hope to visit again, albeit we live down on the South Coast.
B. B.
Quite a few interesting artifacts relating to brewing beer. Well worth the extra for the guided tour.
L. S.
Nice little museum were you can walk around at leisure or take a guided tour, disabled access, toilets and parking, free samples of beer are given by way of tokens which are well worth trying.
I had a loverly sausage and mash dinner in the restaurant 😀👍
S. F.
Cool museum, we did the guided tour and my boys didn't seem interested at first but soon got interested because of our guide sorry I forgot his name. It's over an hour long tour and well worth it as we found out so much useful info and the boys even said how interesting it was. Bonus drinks at the end
S.
Although couldn't get a guided tour thoroughly enjoyed our visit
J. H.
The staff couldn't have been more professional, caring or helpful. The food was of the highest quality and in generous servings tailored to cover dietary alĺergies. My fourth visit so far!
M. B.
Hard to find as not many brown tourist signs but overall it was a fantastic day out and the beer was good the kids enjoyed the park and lots to look at.
J. W.
Not a beer drinker myself, but found the whole tour really interesting. Learnt a lot. Loved the new model of BurtonAmazing detail.
S. M.
Really enjoyed our visit today. Cliff our tour guide was fantastic. Would recommend.
D. S.
Brilliant
Tour guide was fantastic
Enjoyed the beer samples
Bought some beers from the shop
Great value for money
H. M.
A great place for a day out. The Brewery Tap does lovely food as well.
B. T.
Visiting the museum and took the half hogs head tour which I can thoroughly recommend. The guide was lovely and full of knowledge about the site, the history of the area and in depth knowledge of the brewing industry. The tour ended with a beer and food tasting which was very much enjoyed especially after the in-depth tour which lasted just over 3 hours. Anyone visiting the area should check this out but booking is needed for the half hogs head tour as there are limited times it runs.
C. A.
Really good tour, there's so much to see they did their best in 90 minutes but you really need a bit of time after if you also want to read exhibits and take photos.
R.
The tour guide was excellent. He was really informative and knowledgeable. The centre itself was really interesting too. We especially liked the mock up of the 1960s/70s bar and the Edwardian pub. The food in the restaurant was great and very filling. We had the carvery dinner and cheesecake dessert. The beers and ales on draught were top notch.
R. L.
Good place to visit. But of brewery history and music of you are lucky. Attended Burton jazz festival. To quality
L. C.
Had a great time walking round the museum and looking at all the history. Food was good and the beer tasting was great.
A. M.
Well worth a visit, I love history and beer and what a great combination, really good tour and the pint after was great! Gave enough history about th e brewary and the town itself
C. K.
A great attraction that is about beer but also so much more. Our guide bought the real-life stories of the workers to life and I got a real sense of Burton as a brewing town. There is so much to see and plenty of interactive opportunities. We re-lived our youth playing bar skittles and saw the shire horses and the vintage vehicles. The scale model of Burton-on-Trent in its brewing hey day is a masterpiece.
A. W.
Highly recommended. I have spent over 4 hours there today. There is a loooooot to see. Amazing place. We did not have a tour guide and were told they only work on Friday and Saturday but honestly a tour guide is not that necessary. I bought a couple of beers from there as its very tasty. If you like places with an amazing tradition and history, you will not be disappointed.
*** You get voucher for 3 beers which can be tried in the pub located on their premises. Bottled beer can be bought from the reception as well as the pub. Food in the pub is really good as well.
n. s.
Great experience. Definitely recommend. Lots of brewing history.
C. H.
Very standard pub food but good beer as you would expect!
S. B.
What a great day we had there can not fault it great morning with the scooters great night with the music thank you Burton brewers scooter club
J. R.
A fantastic look at the history of brewing. I never knew we were all piss artists back that far! Horse drawn, the canals and then the railways. A great view of England over the years, and its love of real ale. What's not to like? The railway layout is almost worth going for on its own.... Beer, ah yes that's what we came for, originally 🙂
M. T.
Interesting. Value. Nice staff.
The odd thing is - the bar -its done in old pink 🤪
R. W.
Attended on a re-enactment day which gave great atmosphere. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate. There is plenty to keep you occupied for a day with a drop in the bar for refreshment.
We ate in the restaurant around 15h00 and the Sunday roast was excellent value for money, didn't have a ppudding as too stuffed.
W. J.
The tour lasted for about a hour and half, some of this involved stairs, but a lift was available. It was informative and the guide was good. They gave everyone 3 tokens each which can be exchanged for a sample of beer or a bottle to take away.
K. W.
Lovely carvery meal.
Kind and helpful staff.
A pleasure to go there.
T. T.
An excellent night all round, will come again definitely 👍
K. M.
I recently got married and had my wedding reception in the Marquee at the brewery centre. Planning the reception was tough with Covid but the staff were so brilliant. The day was just perfect and Nicky, Sarah and Ryan were a massive part of that. Many thanks to them and all the team who were spot on with the serving food, drinks and clearing away. I would definitely recommend using the national brewery centre as a venue for events.
P. G. B.
Excellent venue. Reasonable prices and though not comprehensive, a decent selection of real ales on offer. Error with a steak was quickly put right and an appropriate goodwill gesture made. Staff attitude and professionalism really good. Thank you.
M. M.
Enjoyable tour with informative guide
Nice drink and food after
Worth a visit in my opinion
T. W.
God venue fir the event we attended but was disappointed with the food I had .A little expensive for the limited quality
A. D.
A very interesting and enjoyable tour. Great place to visit worth every penny. Very friendly staff. Good food and beers .What more do you want.!!
T. H.
Massive museum covering everything related to brewing in Burton on Trent over the last 500 years. Huge site with sections on brewing, transport, dray horses and pubs and pub culture. Take the tour if you have the time. Seemed a bit down on its heels when we visited but it was a very cold November day and maybe we were unlucky.
Don't bother with The Escape room, it was a very poor experience.
B. S.
Superb day out. Well worth a visit!!
g. g.
I went for the custom scooter show not enough parking for cars and vans but the brewery employees carpark was empty
Needs sorting!!!!
L. H.
Very lovely little gem of a place. I don't normally worte reviews but after yesterday's experience I felt a Big shout out to Tony is in order. He was one of the most informative, knowledgeable and friendly persons we have ever met. What he doesn't know about Brewing isn't worth knowing. The personal touch of showing us around and pointing out things we would have never known was the icing on the cake. It was also the First time my husband has been 'out nerded' in any Ale related subject. Lovely to meet an employee who is Truly passionate about their job. National Brewery Museum, Tony did you proud. He's a real gem. Now off to enjoy our complentry bottle of masterpiece ale.
A. M.
Lovely carvery Lovely people I like well done meat Lovely lady always finds me some thanks
J. W.
We booked a guided tour but unfortunately the guide was pinged for Covid so that wasn't possible. We went round on our own and it was fascinating. I am not a beer drinker but there were heavy horses and old advertising things which brought back memories of my grandparents. The history was very interesting and it told you lots about the area and the families involved. There is either a pint or 3 X 1/3 taster beers, or you can get a bottle from the shop to take home if you are driving. There are lots of vintage vehicles and even a steam train with a carriage. It was £11.95 and we will definitely go again to get the tour, and probably take my dad too. All in all I really enjoyed it.
S. F.
Very interesting museum and our guide was most entertaining. The beer's not bad either!
J. W.
Easy to find ,good amount of free parking .we were visiting with our dog ,I emailed in advance as to if it was ok to bring the dog.the reply was it was fine for most areas ,but not in the museum. When we arrived there was sighns on the door No dogs .Fortunately the staff were very understanding and we have a small dog that my husband carried in our haversack .
Lots to see ,very informative and educational about both the area and beer production.
A. C.
Very entertaining guided tour certainly recommend people go and see.
L. J.
So pleased this place is independent from the big breweries. Tour guide was really knowledgeable, and I learnt plenty about Burton's local history as well as the history of brewing
T. R.
Great tour. If you like beer do this tour.
m. o.
Considering they brew it, it certainly cost more than most pubs
P. H.
This is about the technology and history of brewing. An interesting guided tour. Vouchers to sample beers at the end. More a museum really. Very interesting. Go there.
T. w.
We visited the brewery museum today and found the whole experience very enjoyable. I would recommend it to any beer fan. The gift shop is packed with beer and other gifts. Plus a bottle shop full of older vintage style beers not alot of the up to date craft stuff. The museum is a fair size taking in the galleries, vehicles, horse yard and even a section dedicated to the steam trains. Oddly the museum was quiet and the brewery tap full of Sunday lunch revellers who sadly probably dont know the history on offer next door.
My only grumble is the brewery tour is sold as a brewery tour with beer tasting, which it wasn’t unfortunately.
Your beer tokens get you a beer in the brewery tap i.e the busy restaurant next to the brewery. The beers are local but aren’t to my knowledge linked with the brewery other than BASSt i wanted to try something that linked what was in my glass to what I’ve just spent an hour learning about.
What was in the hand pull looked to me to be in expensive local beer with no real significance to the musuem.. Not that it mattered it was too busy to sit anywhere. I think the experience would of being better with beer that has links to the former site and some old boy talking you through the beers away from the restaurant. Like I’ve experienced in several brewery tours.
All in all a good day out and a tour i will recommend.
S. W.
Great place to visit, very interesting information given, fascinating scale model of the town when it was dominated by breweries. Highly recommend a visit. Plus the opportunity to sample the beers at the end of the guided tour.
S. R. (.
Attend the Burton Brewers custom show here, had a great day .
The place itself wasn't really of interest to me, only visited for the scooters!
A. L.
We went here to see a Bee Gees tribute group, who were excellent. We had a meal in the restaurant before too as part of our anniversary celebrations on the same day.
P. C.
Was fabulous the meal was one of the best in my life we danced till nearly one thank you was a night to remember
A. 5.
Fantastic place! Well worth a visit. So much to see and good ales at the end of it
G. W.
Really interesting tour Ian was a lovley guide and had us laughing throughout. Very factual would visit again.
P. B.
New Year's Eve party, great venue, excellent food and a great evening of entertainment, all at a great price.
C. D.
New Year's Eve was a good night, as Covid-19 safe as you could have been
B. W.
Charged £1.50 for glass of pepsi out of a £1.99 bottle and it was flat 🤢
A. M.
Went with my fiancé to have a look around with a view to having our wedding reception here......we were NOT dissapointed! Clean, beautifully presented, exceptionally helpful & very friendly Staff.
We found our venue 😁
P. a. B.
Excellent place and staff are fantastic
M. H.
I was at an organized event. Food has improved and it was delicious. Entertainment was good. Disco playing sings you can dance to. Marquee was a tad cold inside and toilets need checking for cleanliness throughout the evening hence the reason I used disabled. If it wasn't for the last two points it would have been five stars. I enjoy going to this venue as it has some good nights of entertainment. Thank you.
a. d.
Best experience of the day fantastic beers and food
J. R.
An enjoyable little gem. Old cars, old beers and lots of History. The history of Beer no less.. Worth a wander. Has a Beer shop too...
D. M.
Really interesting even if you don't drink beer! We had the ticket which also gave us a meal, all fresh cooked and tasted delicious long with samples of beer. Would highly recommend 😊
S. P.
Easy to slip into this experience at any time. Tells the story comprehensively with a vast collection of artifacts. Rounded off perfectly with pints and a pie in the Brewery Tap.
J. W.
Very interesting place. Went to the World beer festival. Great venue 👍 This was my favorite brew
D. M.
Fantastic night food was great and lively atmosphere. Crackerjack and JUmp were really good
R. B.
We had a great time today at the Brewery centre. Nikki did a FAB tour... It was really informative with great stories! Good history of the town explained & we were told we could go back & look at more after the tour. Very helpful. We felt the gift shop could have more merchandise. Overall a good day out! Thank you!
M. R.
Fab place if into local beer history, tour guide was brilliant he was full of knowledge and staff there so friendly and helpful.
M. B.
Friendly and very informative tour and great beer 😀 well worth the visit, would definately recommend
G. A.
Excellent attraction with lots to see. Phone to book a guided tour (can't book online due to Covid). Our guide was very informative and friendly. Well worth the entrance fee, which includes 3 sample tokens.
p.
Paid about £11 to get in so wasn't expecting the moon, but wow!! What a great place!! It's vast and loads to see. Loved the horses, vehicles, bar and on-site brewery in particular. Will be recommending to everyone I know and returning. Free and very good tour included in price.
J. M.
Great visit. Interesting guide. Lots to see and learn-not to mention free samples of beers. Also a delicious lunch at the restaurant there.
P. H.
Only visited the cafe and shop so can't comment on the brewery tour. But what we saw was really good. You can buy beer and beer related gifts there.
R. H.
Just great with lovely staff and a wonderful atmosphere.
K. S.
Very interesting place and Terry the guide was superb his knowledge and obvious enthusiasm was clear to see and be heard.
A little disappointed that a lot of the exhibits were out of order or waiting to be repaired. Decided to eat in the brewery tap and although all the beers we tasted were superb the food was adequate and the staff seemed very uninterested all in all a good day just could of been a little better.
D. H.
Lovely museum. Definitely worth taking the tour and then going back over the bits you are interested in.
Popular with my children - Shire horses and bar games.
You should allow a minimum of 2 hours here but could easily spend 3-4 hours.
Beer tasting at the end a nice touch.
C. H.
Had a great night out here with friends. Intimate venue, great bar. Super.
V. S.
Great tour, worth a visit!
E. B.
Wasn't expecting how interesting the tour was going to be! It's nice to walk around, but it's definitely worth doing a guided tour. There's so much history to the brewery, not just about the beer. Extremely recommended!
S. F.
A nice little afternoon out, tour is around an hour and a half and includes a testing session at the end.
G. M.
Went for Sunday lunch carvery , very nice
B. P.
Fantastic scooter weekend curtosey of the Burton brewers scooter club.
P. O.
Good, well organised museum with the added benefit of being able to sample some ales (as long as you're not designated driver of course) and plenty of information on hand. The dray horses are beautiful animals and so well cared for here.
S. R.
Went there for a wedding. Good day, staff and the location was very good. Would highly recommend it 👌
c. b.
We were on holiday in the area and decided to go on the tour. My husband has walking difficulties and I was worried it would be too much for him but we were told he would be ok. It was fantastic and he loved it. The man who gave the tour was a fountain of interesting facts. But really I want to say a big thank you to him, he always waited for my husband before he started talking and a lot of guides don't do that. It made for an interesting and very enjoyable time. All the tasters we had after we're doneab too. Definitely would recommend.
A. A.
Quick stop whilst in Burton. Staff were friendly enough. But, atmosphere lacking. Wish we could have sat in main eating area, sadly closed at 7.30?
Oatmeal stout was very fresh and high standard.
Food was fine. Deconstructed chip butty was fun. Maybe try at lunchtime.
W. C.
Brilliant place, brilliant people. We had a great pub lunch followed by Olly's tour. Informative and fun. The shire horses are not to be missed. On a quiet day, all the volunteers were helpful and enthused.
D. I.
A very informative and interesting tour with a knowledgeable and entertaining guide. The 'samples' at the end in the bar were very welcome!
I. B.
The tour was excellent but it's not a brewery tour however, but a museum tour however really.
Generous amount of Beer tokens to use in the bar given though and the tour thoroughly informative, if a bit dull in content at times. The guide does have some rude jokes so I don't think appropriate for young ones, in fact lots of the jokes are sexual, critical of minorities or bigoted. If you like history though, you're sure love it as most of the tour is standing listening about things you don't expect.
K. S.
Absolutely brilliant. My workplace held our work party here and the Brewery Museum was fantastic! Absolutely beautifully laid out and organised, modern and yet has all the historic appeal. The food was delicious. For me, meeting the gorgeous and friendly shire horses really made the day extra special. I'd highly recommend a visit, especially open days 😃 x
J. R.
Came here with a thirst for knowledge. Terry was our guide for the tour and had the perfect balance of insight, knowledge and humour. The tour comes with tastings at the end as well. Truly worth the price of admission.
C. C.
Great way to spend a couple of hours if you love beer👍Very informative and amusing guide....thank you Cliff👍
J. H.
Great experience very imforative with the guide. Excellent beer.
d. G.
Huge stationary steam engine still runs on certain days. Tour takes about 2hours. Get sample vouchers for beers/ales to try. Restaurant good value. Much is under cover so ideal for cold or wet days.
E. T. (. S. F. H.
it is very well signposted and easy to get to. There is plenty of on-site parking, either from Horninglow street or Guild street. Next to the Centre, the Brewery Tap bar and restaurant is a nice stop off for a lovely meal and is where you taste the local ales that have been brewed on site. There is also a playground for your little ones to enjoy themselves.
I would definitely recommend that you book their guided tours (either 11 am or 2 pm) which will explain the brewing industry in great details. If we had gone on the self-guided tour, we wouldn’t have picked up anywhere near as much knowledge about this great industry that dominated politically and socially.
E. H.
Very nice place and very informative even for non-beer drinking people.
B. L.
What agood place to visit. Guide was excellent and made the tour enjoyable and informative.
H. B.
Went to a wedding reception. The marquee and the staff were excellent but really disappointed with the toilets. This is the same toilet used by the pub and restaurant which was set out beautifully. The cleanliness was poor, my 3 year old said they were "super manky!" There were paper towels overflowing from the bin and they were like this all evening.
p. b.
Museum is good but not a good range of beers. If you go to any events in the marquee they only allow plastic cups.
K. B.
Went here just before lunchtime on a saturday, so it was super quiet. Had a sharing platter which was very nice. Downside was i had to ask for a plate, cutlery and serviettes. Staff nice a polite though and beers/ales are very nice. Something a little bit different from the norm.
D. N.
Fantastic Tour of the museum led by Des who was a top man and fountain of knowledge on the history of brewing in burton. Really engaging and clearly had passion and knowledge about the industry. He put his own spin on it and it wasn’t someone reading off an autocue! Great little brewery on site as well with freshly brewed cask beer to finish on. Nice little shop with old beer memorabilia aswell.
P. D.
This is well worth a visit and I would recommend going on the guided tour, awesome. They also hold events throughout the year, check out their website. The scale model the have of Burton in its hay day of brewing I find very fascinating. If your planning a trip to see Burton put this on your bucket list.
M. L.
Fasanting history and an interesting insight into the beers and company's. Restaurant is good for lunch, a little bit pricey though. The shop is OK although it would have been nice to have a bit more selection in the bottled beers. Would definitely recommend for people who enjoy brewery tours
W. R.
Visiting with a group of 11, we enjoyed a guided tour with Dave McDonald; this was first class, lasting just less then two hours, and was a full and detailed coverage of all aspects of the museum. The tour was excellent value at just less than £9 each, that included the opportunity to sample some beers afterwards. The museum is suitable for all ages, and is highly recommended.
A. R.
A good collection in progress staff friendly and helpful. Not fully accessible ramps in some places but some areas only access via steps. Lift in the micro brewery. Site on uneven land such as cobbles and no alternative walkway available. Good visit.
S. W.
Great couple of hours very interesting lots to see loved the shire horses and free beers the end 😆
H. J.
Real ale loads of history perfect for real ale fans you can see how ale used to be made the industrial set ups and improvements. They have tons of old vehicles and equipment they also have shire horses etc. I have been to several events, 40s weekend, guided tour, Halloween tour/ghost walk and the Halloween ball and haven't been disappointed they put effort and pride into the place. Also you get to sample their beer once you've finished.
A. P.
This place needs a day to fully appreciate. The guided tour was comprehensive and then we could wander at leisure. The food was hot and tasty. The heritage beer tasting was a little disappointing.
N. K.
Great time had at oompah band
K. Q.
Great place to visit and guide for tour, very knowledgeable. The shop on site worth a visit!
L. B.
Lovely museum and tour, options for self guided and guided tours were useful! The horses were beautiful to see, along with many vehicles in the lot.
The cask beers to try were lovely and the range of bottled beers to buy were incredible.
Extremely helpful staff throughout.
L. G.
Nice place 👍went for works Christmas party 🥳 nice food and friendly staff
B. G.
Great place to visit if you like your history on beers and the making of it , but interesting even if you don't. You can also see the old Drays they used to transport the Ales & the Shire horses.
Plus you can take some home with you 🙂
T. J.
Excellent museum. Good collection of artifacts. Plenty of information on the history of the brewing industry in Burton on Trent and the current state of the industry. Highly entertaining tour. Great opportunity to taste a few brews.
M. T.
Really enjoyed a day out here. Very reasonable entry price and plenty to look at if you're either into beer/ale or vintage machinery & vehicles. Guided tour takes about 90 mins and is worth taking at 11am.
S. G.
This place needs a day to fully appreciate. The guided tour was comprehensive and then we could wander at leisure. The food was hot and tasty. The heritage beer tasting was a little disappointing.
M. Y.
Our guide was awesome with so many facts about the brewery ..you should be very proud of him
S.
Great tour very knowledgeable fun guide. You get vouchers with admission cost so you can try their beer and ales. Staff know how to cope effectively and busy times. Pricey if you want to drink cider lol
I. K.
Pleasant environment, was at a functiom rather than visiting the full museum, though are tempted to return one day. The function room was nice and equipped for most event needs.
F. S.
A very enjoyable visit, I didn't realise it was so big, lovely Shire Horses, old brewery wagons a steam engine and a super scale model of Burton, my favourite part was the Edwardian bar, the staff were also very friendly and knowledgeable, you are given tokens for drinks at the end of your tour.
T. F.
Interesting tour with local beer tasters at the end. Plenty about the history of the local area, including a museum, intertwined with beer. They even had shire horses and a fish pond! Parking, visitor centre and facilities. Even the boys enjoyed it well enough.
M. K.
A must visit if you like brewing.
D. P.
Had a lovely afternoon yesterday , the beautiful shire horses and impressive traction engines . antique cars .Also an excellent comic was keeping us smiling. The Owl's were amazing too.A brilliant place to see.
P. W.
Superb history of beer brewing, distribution and marketing. Don't forget to sample the heritage beers in the taproom.
S. K.
We visited in August 2014 and thought it was well worth the visit. Not cheap but you got a few drinks at the end. We did the tour with the guide who was very knowledgeable and made it a pleasure. Ideal trip if you're interested in beer and care about what you drink.
D. J.
Interesting and informative, had a nice bite to eat and sampled some of the produce in the attached pub/restaurant. Child friendly but I don't recommend the tour if you have young children, it's a bit too slow.
S. H.
Lovely place, great entertainment. They lost one star because, not all, but a lot of the staff were so miserable - not what you want on a night out! Otherwise, a good night out.
L. H.
Lovely day out, super friendly and informative tour guide and staff members. Definetly recommend if you are a beer lover :)
P. M.
Great guided tour, expert knowledge and some quality beer puns! Facilities are good and nice beers at the end. Restaurant seems good but didn't eat... maybe next time!
S. D.
Nice venue. A great place to explore if you want to discover the history of the town and brewing. Serve great food daily and the ability to host a wide variety of events.
Keep an eye on their website and Facebook for regular events. Easy access to all areas for people of all abilities
T. W.
This was a lovely place to visit with my late father, he absolutely enjoyed the history of the brewery and of course the drink at the end; he had two since I was driving! Thank you all so much, this place is a cherished memory for me.
J. G.
This is a great place for a day out. The guided tour is really interesting and well worth doing - so many fascinating facts to learn about beer and brewing. The restaurant is also worth visiting, not only for the free samples of beers, but also for the lovely food
j. w.
Good prices and a great day out 👍
P. B.
A pretty interesting few hours to be had here. Its typical British museum fodder but plenty to see and do. The area is surrounded by quality pubs for afterwards which is a bonus!
G. R.
Got this on a Groupon, great value and includes 3 x 1/3 of a pint each.
Well worth joining the guided tour, 1hr 45m of brewing history, burton history etc...
Highly recommend
A. P.
Our Son, and now, Daughter-in-law,
Were married at the brewery centre, and we must say how impressed we were with the venue, the staff, and the quality, quantity, of the food. They couldn't have done any more to make the day the success it was. Thanks guys, we had a great time!
A. N.
Not the best Oktoberfest I've been to but had a good night out all the same. The 1st band on were good and got the crowd going, then they packed up and left! Then a while later another band started up, not as good and struggled to keep the crowds attention. The biggest gripe was the price of the beer. £10 for a Stein (2 pints), it wasn't even a top quality beer (Berliner). The barman came out with some rubbish about importing a beer you can buy around most of the UK. I guess it a case of captive audience syndrome again. Shame as we've had some great entertainment there.
s. s.
There is so much there, you could do the excellent tour, have a meal and beer taste and then do the museum on your own as you don't have time to look at it all first time round. It has a cafe and bar and plenty of eating options by the looks of it. Thoroughly recommended...this is not to be confused with a brewery trip!!
R. I.
Found this place on line would recommend. It's worth waiting for the guided tour as you can learn so much more. The horses are lovely good to see that they still use them for the special days
T. A.
Very informative guide. Tour lasted about an hour and half. Food good in the bar cum restaurant and tokens included allowe 3 quart pint ales.
D. J.
Had a fantastic evening at the Blues Brothers Christmas party. The entertainment was brilliant and the food was lovely. Considering how many people were there the organisation was very good. We'll done
M. F.
Great , attended a vintage event today !
B.
Don't miss that,it is great atmosphere, that place is famous and beautiful, staff are great and make you feel good in that atmosphere like in old times, all most from there was in elegant clothes, I been in normal traveler clothes and I was feeling good, I really recommend that place if you travel to Burton on Trent, thank you for reading
w.
A gem of a museum, don't let the outside appearance put you off. The guided tour is a must. Fascinating walk though the history of beer Inc Shire Horses, a great collection of beer related vechiles, free beer tasting and a great restaurant with great value for money Sunday roast.
B. H.
This is a fantastic place to visit. Young or old too good to miss. The tour guide was first class extremely informative. The beer, superb and the resturaunt meal a real treat.
P. H.
Great guided tour that retells the history it Bass and Marston
c. t.
Interesting day out for all ages.
J. F.
Brilliant museum, great guided tour, explaining Burton's brewery heritage, some really thorough and well-constructed explanatory material, with a wide range of historic and historical artefacts. And the entry fee entities you to a heritage beer tasting! 😊
R. K.
Nice place, lovely horses
P. M.
A great day out. The place was bigger than expected with lot of interesting things to see. The guided tour was excellent. The beer at the end equally superb.
C. Y.
Fantastic place to learn all about how beer is brewed loads of artifacts, information and details. Really friendly staff and the food they serve is delicious would definitely recommend this gem
D. S.
Fantastic night , great atmosphere and everyone enjoyed themselves , music was amazing 👏
C. C.
A great informative tour around an important historical site, gave details about where brewing in the area started, and how it developed over the years, right up to modern day with Coors being the current employer brewing a rediculasly large amount of beers and lager's.
We were introduced to the very handsome boys that still pull the drey however this is used for weddings rather than beer now, they were huge, powerful and beautiful animals and very friendly.
The tour culminated with a beer tasting session ( included in the price) you were treated to 3 third of a pint glasses of a selection of beers served in "The Tap" the pub attached to the museum
Money very well spent, thanks
Chris
A. H.
Nice bar, clean surroundings
C. W.
Museum extremely interesting, well laid out and good for all ages. Let down by the finale of "brewery tap". Uninspired atmosphere, in need of (historic) upgrade . Staff ok , but really need a better tourism ethos of enthusiasm and product knowledge...this may be from management or owners ? If you visit make sure you get the inclusive sampling , but please visit "real " pubs on the doorstep to get a feel of Burton Brewing ie The Coopers, or The Burton Bridge.
S. P.
What a great place to visit. Do the guided tour, very informative, educational and the shire horses Jed and Gandalf are lovely. Missus is still trying to get one in the boot of the car and smuggle him home.
B. S.
Comedy nights can be hit or miss but always worth going too
M. V.
Great Sunday roast, my guests where impressed with food quality and the tour of the old factory. I strongly recommend the place for a pleasant and inexpensive day out. Try beer tasting - good fun.
S. H.
The lady tour guide was interesting the information about the area and the history of the brewers never stopped for a good 2hours she also made it fun for everyone the shire horses are last to see but not the least for the work they used to do in the past ,there are two to see but they are only used for shows .It was a great experience .you can go round on your own before the tour if you swish worth the price for tour
n. h.
Really interesting to see the history of brewing in Burton, and the guide was very knowledgeable
P. B.
Good museum but strange manager in Brewery Tap Restaurant He gave the impression that he was doing us a favour by letting us have a table despite booking it 7 days in advance. Food excellent a great Sunday lunch😋
D. D.
Very friendly employees and a fun tour. Plus you get to taste a couple (3) of nice beers. Too bad it's only 1/3 pints though.
A. P.
Very well laid out and informative brewery with a friendly guide if you wish to explain all about how traditional beers came to be in England 🏴
Then you can go to the on site pub to sample some of the beers
Lovely jubbly 😊🍺🍻
B. B.
Loved the museum section. The guide was entertaining and informative. However we needed to wait an hour for our food and there weren't many people there. The food and beer were good but the wait was crazy.
N.
Another fabulous place that I've used now for years!! The food is great as well!!
😃👍
T. J.
Tour guide Ian was fabulous. Great day out. Definitely recommend this. Get 3 tokens each to try Ale / Lager at end of tour.
T. K.
Great to visit. Lots to learn about the brewing process and informative guides to take you round. Kids loved the shire horses and husband loved the free tasters at the end!
E. Y. M.
Great venue for many events. Food is good and staff are friendly and helpful. Recommend to give a call to see how they can help from weddings to corporate events. Eddie from Mistereyentertainment.co.uk and phatmagic.co.uk
L. A.
Great place to eat . We allways look forward to eating there when we are in Burton on trent
R. A.
We had a group tour for my Grandad's birthday and we all loved it. The tour was comprehensive, covering the whole history of brewing in Burton. The guide was knowledgeable about the techniques and final products of brewing. There is an opportunity to taste the products of the brewery at the end with coupons issued for three 1/3 pints in a bar area with a cosy pub atmosphere. Grandad said that it was the best weekend he'd ever had, which is surely high praise
j. s.
Great day at the Burton Brewers scooter day .
M. t. m.
Went for the scooter meet hosted by burton brewer's scooter club.... fantastic day, great crowd, really look forward to going, venue really adds to the day with all staff getting in the mood .... thanks to club and the brewery....
M. S.

Shire horses vintage vehicles
Can hold many events at one time.
C. B.
Really interesting, lots to see, spent over 4 hours there the tour guide was very knowledgeable but put it over n a very informal way. The beer was tasty too!
A. S.
Very informative, would recommend
T. H.
New year's Eve dinner dance. The organisation was amazing when dealing with a full house. Food great and the disco spot on, the dance floor was overflowing so others popped up. A great night.
C. M.
we went here last Friday night for the Beatles tribute, was really surprised at how many people they had crammed in the venue, once you was in your seat it was very difficult to get to the bar or even to get to the ladies , it was like getting out of a maze , had a really good night though
A. W.
We went there for a wedding last week. For saying it was at the Brewery the beer at £5.60 a pint was incredibly expensive and even to buy bottled beer from the store was I think 4 for £12.
R. N.
Great place to visit, had a laugh in the escape room, and you can buy bottled BEER! 🍻
L. D.
Visiting on our way home. Fantastic place. We had a very good tour and our guide Des was excellent. Very informative. Highly recommended
J. D.
Great tour about 1.5 hrs, brilliant afternoon plus tokens for beer would recommend if you're I'm this neck of the woods
I. G.
If you have a vague idea of how beer is made, this a great place to have someone knowledgeable and enthusiastic tell you and the long history of beer in Burton, I learnt a lot. And a beer sample to finish
D. D.
Brilliant place and wonderful guide. More interesting than I expected. Food in café not so good so only four stars.
D. H.
Pretty cool museum, tickets come with a pint of beer. Came here for a specific style of beer, Burton Ale, seems they don’t make it anywhere in the town it’s named for. Weird.
A. B.
What a great day we were able to learn about ale making and its history but one day is not enough I could have spent all week here the range of beers and ales to take home are vast we will definitely be coming back
m. r.
Had lovely time, went to see the greatest show man tribute
S. R.
Friendly staff. Nothing too much trouble. Covid friendly!!!
Well worth a visit. Hubby says lovely pint of Bass too.
L. W.
An extremely interest museum giving the history of the brewing of beer in the United Kingdom but especially in the town of Burton upon Trent. Well worth a visit.
B.
Good value for money with a guided tour and basically 3 half pints of beer at the end. Very interesting and great offers for this place at Groupon
A. C.
The well water in Burton flows through gypsum, which gives it a flavor that goes well with hops and malted barley. At one time one pint in four of all the beer drunk in the UK was brewed in Burton. Today there are still several large breweries operating here. The beer museum has strange vehicles, old steam engines, period bars, and a cast iron urinal as well as displays on brewing and brewers.
P. J.
Just brilliant, our guide was so knowledgeable, his delivery was so easy, it made the whole tour very enjoyable. Good ales too.
S. S. W. &. D.

This is s great little Museum with lot's of history of how Burton was put onto the map for being a Brewery town there is lots to see from Shire horses, classic vintage transport, many pumps and steam driven displays too a lot of them are interactive but one of my personal favourites is the working model of Burton how it used to be decades ago
