Reviews of The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust Head Office
S. K.
Fantastic interactive museums for all the family.
P. M.
The Iron Museum was very interesting. Lots of history and amazing ironwork. Takes at least 2 hours to make the most of it. The enginuity museum next door looked great fun for kids but we didn't have time to visit but we did manage a lovely cup of coffee in the Furnace Cafe. All staff friendly and helpful.
C. B.
Lady on reception very pleasant and helpful. Lovely museum, well laid out and informative. Went for coffee at restaurant building along. Would of liked some information about the building and its use. Would recommend. Advise pay extra for annual passport as you can visit as many times as you like and the other museums.
P. H.
Beautiful lovely brass band festival over the weekend.
D. R.
Victorian Village Blists Hill was most interesting of the museums and worth a visit
s. d. k.
A very pleasant place to spend an afternoon in iron history recommended.
C. W.
Another great museum on how Iron changed the face of Britain and the World. It is well organized and has a nice cafe opposite. Lots to see.
J. K.
This is a really well constructed museum. At the time of our visit we had the advantage of being escorted by a really good guide.
S. B.
If you're interested in the history of the industrial revolution, this is a good place to visit.
We bought the museum passport, and visited 6 of the collection of museums over 2 days (although 2 were closed !).
There are also plenty of pretty walks around the area and along the Severn river.
P. W.
Fantastic day exploring memories from growing up in this area definitely worth a visit
S. E.
A worthwhile visit despite the covid restrictions. Helpful staff and well maintained exhibition. Very interesting.
L. B.
Great museums all around Ironbridge run by the trust. Best value buy the pass.
P. K.
Stunning breadth of history, lots for the children, friendly staff.....well worth the time to visit.
H. C.
Nice place to visit, but why do the facilities close early?
C. M.
Fascinating. The Industrial Revolution started here. It's amazing how one small invention made such a massive impact.
B. S.
Great museum with lots of history about the area. Not a place for young children.
Also background to the bridge.
A. C.
Very interesting.. and worth a visit.. the only down side was my coffee from the permanent van that was there, I think they need to clean out the machine..
C. B.
Great place to visit for families lots to see and do.
B. Y.
So interesting place
K. H.
Really good place to visit when you buy a passport entry for all you can see in the local area
G.
Went to Ingenuity for Breakfast: best to book: spacious clean lovely staff: nice breakfast inc veg and vegan. Not ridiculously expensive…
E. H. a. T.
The museum of iron is located on the site of original iron foundry works, so a visit is a combination of both indoor displays and open air examination and view of the industrial remains in the site. Machinery and equipment that has been donated to the museum adds to and compliment the site based artifacts. Displays are well organised and will be of interest to both adults and children. The latter being especially thought of.
T. R.
Very interesting. Well displayed. Enjoyed it.
V. J.
I suspect they used the last 2 years well. Displays were fresh and really good. There was a great deal of reading though if you read all the information boards. Maybe a guided tour would be easier?
T. S.
Interesting place, friendly staff. Seems to improve all round year on year.
S. C.
Wonderful day out to learn about this mighty and iconic company
m. r.
Really beautiful settings and so much to see and two .
S. W.
Very interesting, some lovely furniture.
P. K.
I actually visited the Museum of Iron. It's certainly full of iron objects, but there's also an excellent contemporary scale model of the Iron Bridge, made of mahogany.
A. P.
Love this area, plenty to explore and the people are friendly.
S. M.
Lovely little museum
a. c.
Great collection of museums so much to see and do
Y. H.
Nice museum detailing the rise of the iron industry in Telford and the local area. Lots of examples of ironmongery and history of the leaders of the industry. Museum is small but packed with items, some of which are interactive so kids are happy.
M.
Very intersting, with a big modal, very realistic and Big !!
A. L.
Many interesting exhibits on two floors though there is a lift provided. Would agree with comments on opening times. 10am to 4pm for such an important museum split over so many sites isn't really acceptable especially in the summer when you have shelled out a load of money to come here and you may have stayed overnight like I have. Also, you really need to have a better way of paying for car parking than only by cash. They need to take cards as well or publicise a means of paying when you buy passports.
R. D.
Iron is super interesting and this place explains why. Definitely worth visiting
R. G.
Lovely day visiting Enginuity and Museum of Iron despite the understandable closure of some roads on the day we visited due to flooding. Brilliant staff and very engaging for our children
p. b.
Lovely place full of history and things to do. They were very helpful when we lost our site passport. Highly recommended
E. F.
Interesting take on history. Very informative. Outside structures the real shine of the show, lots of old brick to explore.
A. G.
Spent a good couple of hours at Enginuity. Very interactive with loads for children to do.
D. S.
Love it here!🙂
K. W.
It's a fantastic place to go. So informative about the local area's history. Something for all age groups. Health and safety in these trying times is no problem with either open air or one way systems. A great day out. Try the Furnace Kitchen, great food in a great location. Fantastic
M. P.
Excellent museum, very interesting
M. E.
Lovely place to visit . Highly recommend
C. R.
If you like industrial architecture you have to visit Ironbridge and its associated museums and sites.
L. W.
Excellent place to visit. Interesting history, beautifully presented. Lovely area to visit and walk through
S. T.
Great as always ,shame the coppersmith was no longer there
M. P.
Absolutely worth a visit. Very entertaining and interesting. Great value for money. Friendly and knowledgeable staff on hand.
A. S.
Really informative museum on the history of ironmaking, with loads of interesting exhibits. Definitely visit as part of the Ironbridge area experience. I'd recommend getting the "passport" ticket as it grants access to loads of museums in the area and is valid for a year.
B. P.
A very interesting museum, however, I would have liked to see more information on how iron ore is processed into cast and other types of iron - but there are some very interesting exhibits. Admission was £10 in 2021.
K. H.
We went to the indoor part as it was raining. It was really good for the kids. It was a science centre and we spent 2 hours there. So many practical activities. The main attraction was a giant hydroelectric dam model that included lots of wet play. There is also a soft play area for toddlers. Overall the place is highly suitable for kids from toddlers to year 6 I'd say.
Cafe and vending machines too.
Gift shop has educational and fun stuff. Sweets too.
J. a.
Well worth buying a ticket for all of them. Set in beautiful countryside the museums are near eaxh other and have lots to do and see
J. W.
Museum of Iron very much what it says on the tin(!) Not so interesting perhaps for youngsters (Enginuity would be a better bet), but an interesting place if you are prepared to do a lot of reading on the subject. Definitely more to do with Iron than specifically the local history (although it does feature to some extent).
R. B.
Enginuity is fabulous and such fun !
K. F.
Of course I love it I worked there for 2 decades!
No seriously it's wonderful. Not only educational but fun and full of interest too. 6 sites spread over 4 sq miles so take your time!
S. D.
Not very interesting lovely area. Would not visit again.
5.
Great place for in depth industrial history and for those who are passively interested. Great facilities and helpful guides.
J. H.
Had lunch at the cafe and it was delicious
P. D.
Just returned from a super day at the Victorian Town museum, Blist Hill. Plenty to see and was enhanced for the fabulous weather. Very knowledgeable volunteers and paid staff who in most cases were in period costume. Probably was more of interest for the older visitor as it was interesting to spot things that you remember from your granny's kitchen etc. However it seemed to have had a lot of 'hands-on' experiences for children during the holidays. Not the cheapest place to go and if we had been staying in the area longer we probably would have bought a passport but we did get a full day out of it, though a few extra things had to be paid for separately. I would recommend this venue (and the classic pub across the road - All Nations Inn).
M. D.
Fabulous place,,we took our grandson to see Santa in his grotto, most beautiful place ,with all the lights trees ,rain fears bears ,very majickul ,,
A. T.
Well worth visiting. Pleasant staff and great exhibition. Perhaps for children could do with one or two hands on exhibits.
N. M.
Great value for the amount of museums you can visit. Very well presented. Only thing that would make it better, would be a shuttle to get from place to place so you don't have to keep moving your car. Though I do like that you only have to pay once and it covers several car parks.
P. S.
Love coming here so mutch to see take a walk along the river visit bliss hill near by musiums a plenty for all, a lovely park with a playground, have a drink in the lovely pubs or gaze the views from the grand old bridge you get yourselfs down here
J. M.
A very interesting and spacious set of former forges and ironworks buildings. A great monument to the industrial revolution. Very pretty and educational walks around the periphery. Very good café next to the museum.
n. j.
Certainly worth a visit.
S. R.
Myself, husband and 7 year old daughter went to ironbrige museum today (1.5.17) have to say it was amazing. We had our photo done and the lady who took the pic was amazing with my daughter. All the staff we meet were very enthusiastic about their job and the rolls they played, the really made it an experience room remember! Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys this kind of thing. We spent all day there and didn't get bored. My daughter loved it and keeps asking to again. Thanks to all who made our day a fab one and amazing memories for us. Would defiantly go again!! Thanks xx
S. W.
Visiting Abraham Darby's iron furnace is an essential stop for anyone travelling in the area. It is adjacent to the museum and free to enter. The museum is well worth visiting but there is some overlap of material with the other museums in the area.
D. G.
Great Place. Very informative and some lovely exhibits.
J. G.
Great place to visit. Large model of the River with explanations of how the industries worked a long this stretch. Very interesting displays.
N. C.
Fabulous - absolutely loved the Victorian museum and we filled two days with visiting this and two other musuems; barely scratching the surface of what's available. Signed up for annual pass and feel like we've already had good value over those two days. Definitely get fresh chips from the fryer and head over to the Bakery just after noon for fresh baked goods (cinnamon bun is the best I've ever tasted)! We skipped the noon headmaster schooling lesson as we thought it might be a little too scary for our 4 yr old (who's due to start school in September) but we'll definitely return to experience it when they're older.
p. r.
Great place to spend a day, kids love it.
G. F.
Great place to visit lots of information about the black country and its industrial heritage also a super cafe on site for the weary after your visit ..
K. P.
Very informative museum.
r. j.
Not much hear other than large model of the gorge. There is a film to watch and a gift shop and pay and display parking right out side. The passport ticket is good value if you are in the area for a few days.
R. H.
Between all the museums there's a huge range of things to do and see. With the option of a single pass to all the museums it's very good value as well!
R. A.
Very historical site
M. W.
Brilliant place to visit and all the other places you can visit on your annual membership 😀
M. G.
Loved Iron bridge, the place the museums, food, drink, scenery!
L. M.
Really nice place. Unfortunately we arrived around 3pm expecting it to close around 5pm, at 4pm the place closed and we had to leave. The parking charges could be better structured however, there is only the option of paying £3 for the entire day.
l. c.
Very informative staff very friendly and helpful. Really interesting few hours.
S. G.
Spent two days visiting the various museums included in the one ticket price (an annual pass) and still more to see on our next visit!!
A. C. C.
Wonderful experience the staff were friendly helpful and extremely knowledgeable it will be even better when the restaurant opens.
C. P.
Great place to visit, all the museums in the area are worth visiting
d. e.
Ironbridge has many very good museums and they produce a passport type booklet that lets you visit each at a reduced rate, it also gets 'punched' at each one and that helps to plan your day, as it is very hard to see all the mighty fine properties and exhibits in a single visit. there are many things to see dealing not only will the iron workings but the way we used to live and not so distant history , all in all if you want a good area to visit I do'nt think anyone could be disappointed as there has to be something for all
E. H.
A fascinating place steeped in history, well laid out and airy - probably very different to conditions there a couple of centuries ago! Very much worth a visit if you have any interest in history.
Z. A.
Jolly good time had here when visiting.
Good fun for kids.
Wheelchair access is okay but not fantastic. Accessible toilet is adequate but not fantastic. No adult changing facilities or hoist.
Audio tour provided.
No braille signs offered that I recall.
P. A.
Well worth a visit. The Gorge is spectacular on it's own
N. M.
Interesting day out. Lots to do.
C. V.
It's got some good bits in, but with the situation at the moment all of the screens and digital interactive points were shut.
C. D.
Really interesting experience ,children enjoyed finding the iron pieces around the museum's
M. L.
Went to a talk by Kate Cadman on Coalport & Caughley Pottery very informative 👍
A. G.
Lovely interesting place. Plenty to see and do.
J. S.
One of many great museums in this beautiful area.
C. P.
It's a good few hours to waste if purchased as part of the annual membership but would be better with more interactive displays. Don't take the kids though as they will be bored!
J. G.
Great place so much to see beautiful setting.
G. B.
It was very good. But required a car due to the museums are spread around. Road's are narrow.
m.
If you want to find out about the iron industry in Coalbrookdale this is the place to come. Subject very well covered. Good café/ restaurant alongside
P. O.
I went just to visit their library archives, which was excellent in itself, so i need to go back and explore everything else that I only got a glimpse of.
L. S.
Very interesting museum. Good value if buying the annual museum passport but perhaps not worth the single visit price. Not the best for kids ( go to enginuity round the corner instead) but for adults an interesting insight into the iron industry in this area and the families that influenced this.
P. C.
Such an interesting museum. Lots of history.
S. W.
Abraham Darby's furnace is an essential stopping point for anyone with the slightest interest in our industrial heritage. Entry is free.
The adjacent Museum of Iron is well worth visiting but, like many of the museums in the gorge, there is some overlap of content.
T. K.
Fantastic, physical history you can get your hands on... next best thing to a time machine.
T. W.
Very good enjoyed the day will be going back again
D. C.
Great place loverly museum and festivals
T. E.
With so many sites this has to be one of the best museums in the country. It's only a short walk from where we live so we bought a friends membership which allows us to go, with a friend, whenever we like. Great value.
S. S.
Went to Enginuity, found that there were more smaller exhibits that the big ones they used to have. I have a 3 yr old who loved the older big exhibits more as they involved 'balls' and 'placing balls' somewhere, he was very dissappointed as the smaller ones involved being lifted up, at this age they love their independance.
R. O.
What an incredible history this area. Had its peak iron making just over a hundred years ago and was all gone by 1960.
C. C.
Very interesting and informative if you have time to read all the details. And on a nice day the outside space and walks are pleasant and in good order.
P. M.
Lovely museum but sadly it has lost some of its charm, it is not as kid friendly as it once was. There is no cafe and all the displays are aimed at adults that can read.
C. P.
Brass band concert excellent
A. S. D.
Just full of history everywhere. Amazing architecture and of course 'the iron bridge ' itself
If you love history it's a must.👍👍👍👍👍
J. D.
Vaguely interesting but not really my kind of thing. My husband, an engineer enjoyed it more.
s. e.
Plenty to see. And lovely gardens to sit and have picnic in. The houses were really good and lots of information from the guides.
A. S.
Never fail to find something new in here. Well worth buying a passport to visit all 10 museums.
C. S.
Wife took part in brass band festival. Great place in lovely surroundings.
T. G.
Lots of information, good if you like history.
J. B.
Nice brunch at the Furnace Kitchen
A. G.
Interesting museum, great guide in the old furnace area. Good food in the Foundry.
S. B.
Well laid out museum with a fascinating history of iron production in the area. Part of the Museum of the Gorge set of exhibits and on the same site as Enginuity. Well worth a visit - staff always friendly and helpful too. Definitely recommend. Never knew that iron could be so beautiful.
D. J.
Awesome place. We love it here.
C.
Facinating look into the past. Had tea and cake there which we didnt enjoy
C. G.
Part of the excellent museum group in the area. If you have time, get the passport and visit as many of the group as you can
Y. A.
Fantastic insight into the Victorian era. Walk down memory lane at Blists hill and eat proper fish and chips fried in lard. Visit the sweet shop or bakery for a treat.
R. P.
Reasonably interesting but could do with some more activity to pep it up a bit!
E. F.
Very important part of the industrial Revolution explained. Highly recommended
A. W.
Good historical museum for a family day out.
L. S.
I had visited the museum twice. it is better and enhanced for tourism and vacation.
R. K.

A. B.
Great day out - loads to intrigue inquisitive minds.
f.
Fun place! Good for the kids too and the furnace kitchen across the way too.
R. R.
Superb museum, great displays, easy parking, could benefit from more interactive displays and more atmosphere
F. P.
Interesting place to visit, duration approx 2 hours
T. G.
Excellent day out, go and see it instead of taking my word for it.
E. S.
Fascinating. Great experience.
K. S.
Interesting but not worth the entrance fee of £9+
D. W.
A well refurbished modern exhibition of the history of ironworking ancient and more recent with plenty of artifacts and art over two floors. Large pay and display car park and other attractions within walking distance.
G. F.
Really enjoyed all the bands were great on a nice day
A. C.
Good museum that tells the story of Iron in Ironbridge. Great collection, well laid out & informative.

If you are interested in the history of the iron Industry this is a must. Don't miss the kiln at the far end of the grounds.

P. K.
Worth a walk up the hill from the bridge to see this historical iron manufacturing site. On the way back take the woodland walk and stop at the Cafe by the old train station.
R. P.
Like all the museum's in Ironbridge, it's very interesting. Staff are first rate.
B. M.
It was my husband s choice and I was pleasantly surprised.it was more interesting than I expected.
C. M.
Lovely place very informative
R. L.
Fascinating to walk over the blast furnace that Abraham Darby first used to smelt iron with coke
S. S.
Fantastic place to take the family
R. M.
Lovely place, quite expensive on the door to the museum though
V. D. V. D.
Nice museum for kids !
B. E.
What wonderful experiences, celebrating a bygone age, and what ingenuity of all the volunteers who rebuilt the buildings making it look like they had been stood there forever.! Do take 2days if you can to see all the venues, and plan well so that you don't waste anytime or miss anything. Enginuity is purely for kids, so only go there if you are taking children! Very good area to visit, highly recommended
D. K.
Great place. The model of 18c Coal Brookdale is stunning
S. B.
This would have been a 5 star review except for one element. The museum is very interesting. The displays and information are beautifully laid out and easy to follow. I understand that there has been a major refurb recently. I didn't see the original but I really like the current lay out.
The old blast furnace is a piece of world history and as such deserves preservation. Plenty of parking and knowledgeable friendly staff.
The one down side. Limited opening hours. We arrived at 2.15 anticipating a couple of hours visit to find that, due to government cuts in public services the museum closed at 3. This is not meant to be a comment about government cuts but it is worth mentioning that visitors can not assume that the museum will be open during normal hours and need to check opening times. Our visit was rushed and consequently compromised. I would recommend the museum with this caveat.
B. B.
A nice afternoon spent here.
S. K.
Really enjoyed this event valuable experience
S. P.
Lots of exhibits telling the story of coalbrookdale and Ironbridge
F. C.
Museum closed (Covid) until Monday but good coffee at Forge café
t. c.
Look closely, look at everything, ask questions.. truly fascinating; the kids and I learn something every time we visit, love Ironbridge
S. B.
fab museum, lots to do and see
B. P.
Interesting but needs more pictures and models of iron making process rather than just text. Details about Quaker movement unexpected bonus.
P. C.
Beautiful exhibition space, real shame that no engineering still carried out at this location.
J. R.
Great value fun days out with the kids
B. C.
Very interesting shows a glimpse of the past
C. H.
Interesting, but very much static displays.
Not even a Coffee machine there these days.
G. P.
Suggest starting your visits to the Ironbridge museums with this one. Gives clear explanation of the history of industry in the Gorge, why, when and how it developed. Shop and pleasant cafe/restaurant. Clear covid precautions. Large airy building . Ample parking, currently free. Ruins of large furnaces in the grounds and a short walk away are industrial watercourses.
h. E.
Very friendly people . Very helpful with any information/inquiries.
J. T.
Great and very informative, friendly staff and volunteers, worth more than 1 visit
J. P.
Hosted the Ironbridge Brass Band Festival. Great weekend and forgotten how wonderful Ironbridge is although can get crowded in the fine weather. Used the park and ride which was good.
C. “.

K. J.
Loved it. Really interesting and informative
T. W.
No real coffee bar in the area! Kids playground needed in the small park opposite. I think officialdom constrains area?
A. Y.
Loved it, hadn't been here since I was in my teens, I'm 50+ now
M. L.
Not as interactive as the other museums but fascinating still
C. T.
Don't leave your car here past 10pm otherwise it gets locked in. Fantastic venue though.
A. P.
Recently refurbished thou still tells the story well
R. G.
Great experience brilliant service girls really helpful
G. L.
The Museum of Iron is a great addition to the trusts 10 different attractions. Lots to see and learn, friendly staff, well presented and well thought out exhibits. Smart exhibit displays with extra draws full of other items to discover. Original blue prints were probably the best for me. Not to mention the phenonmial feat of engineering that’s gone into positioning some of the large heavier pieces. There are a few interactive features here too but it’s probably not a site for very young visitors. And listen out for the on the hour loud clock tower chimes, it’s worth hold on a little longer to hear it.
B. S.
Loads of info on iron and the bridge. Go off half day to combine with enginuity.
D. “. G. P.
Lovely bridge, very touristy though
D. G.

W. C.
Always a great visit. Lots of history to get stuck into.
A. P.
Excellent day out with the grandkids....surprised they wanted to go back to school!
T. W.
Visited museum of iron. Great on the people but less so on the process of iron working. Still interesting though.
P. V.
Great Learning Experience.
Great to Learn History - how the industrial revolution changed the town and Industry;
And
Now the past glory is faded - sadly.
Wonder, why can't we revive such towns and Industry.
Is Automation only the answer today ?
Why can't we take a step back and see the beautiful craftsmanship they had - mind you there were no computers; no welding technology then.
Salute to the volunteers who have kept this place running and guiding the visitors.
i. m.
So beautiful and peaceful and excellent for learning about the brilliance of Mr. A. Darby et al.
M. T.
Blists Hill is a very enjoyable open air Victorian museum.
S. G.
A great day out. The bonfire night fireworks display and hallowe'en events are excellent.

An excellent museum of the central role of the area in the history of the industrial revolution in Britain. It includes an extensive exhibit of all the kinds of cast iron products it produced, especially in Victorian times (and in Victorian decorative taste).
