Reviews of Lower Brockhampton House

First visit to the estate and loved it. We done the long walk and boggy was an understatement! We had our boots sucked into the mud. It was fantastic!!! The walk was extremely well signposted and we had a great few hours. My boots are still during out! Beautiful scenery even in the fog. Loved the house too; beautifully decorated with Christmas themed rooms. I'd forgotten it would be decorated but it was lovely. All in all an excellent visit!
S. C.
Fantastic place to visit. House is amazing with an incredible history and the friendly staff will tell you about it. Great walks around the estate as well. Good cafe and picnic areas
S. B.
Brockhampton is a real gem deep in the countryside. The house is very old and beautiful. There are ruins of a Norman church within the grounds. Plenty of walks around the estate with far reaching views in places. A nice cafe for drinks, ice cream etc. Friendly staff. A very pleasant few hours spent here.
M. C.
Another excellent National Trust property, the moat had almost disappeared due to this summers extreme heat but the grounds are beautiful. Passionate volunteers deliver the history of the house through the years. Great cream tea as expected but no shop. Well worth a visit.
D. R.
Brockhampton Estate and Manor is a fabulous place to visit.
Lovely setting, easy parking, pet friendly with lots to see.
Great walks, awesome cafe and really interesting historic manor house, very helpful staff ....going back again soon.
C. B.
It was an odd medieval house at the bottom.of a very long drive.
Interesting, eccentric little gatehouse.
Miniature size Great Hall , has an interesting history. Definitely worth a coat of looking at.Has a Norman Chapel next to it as well
M. H.
What a lovely place. A total surprise - we were not expecting such a wonderful scenic visit.
The greeting was amongst the best we have ever received, lovely service in the kiosk and an all round 10 out of 10 day out.
K. M.
Very nice place no black but all white. Had a good day with the dogs plenty of walking .
Cup of T with a vegan pasty 🤔 But is was very tasty😁

This old Manor House is set in the most lovely location, with some beautiful walks and worth the £9.50 entry fee.
There is a Gatehouse and a Norman Chapel (in ruins) as well as a cafe off the stables block (lots of outdoors seating), toilets and a second hand book section for book lovers.
The grounds include goats grazing freely, several play areas with clever wood carved seats (different wood carved animals) and a clearly marked route (with many gates to open and close). The grounds also include fenced off apples (rare species) and some boards explaining about orchards.
The house itself is staffed by friendly guides and divided into different periods, so each room tells you of a different occupant and era, as well as being 'dressed' for the relevant period. Bedrooms are up some stairs.
With the beautiful grounds this is a place which can appeal to different generations.
There is a car park on the grounds, but only one way in and out, on a narrow road, so be prepared to pull over from time to time on your way in or out.

I really enjoyed my visit to Brockhampton. As soon as you walk up the path towards the house, it stands out like a picture of beauty. It's old and interesting. It's like time travel traveling through different ages. I particularly liked the 1910 kitchen but all rooms were lovely. Also make sure you visit the chapel ruin too

Me and my friend had the most wonderful afternoon at Brockhampton House. The staff there were amazing, so helpful and informative. (Shout out to the two brilliant ladies that were so understanding about my lost national trust card). The history of the house told by a wonderful gentleman whose smile and storytelling was just what we needed before enjoying the house by ourselves. Hoping to go back very soon to enjoy the many different walking routes around the grounds! Thank you to every volunteer we met, you are all fabulous and doing such an amazing job at celebrating the history of the land!

Looking for a walk to do on a Sunday, we googled local National Trust places and this hidden little gem turned up. Beautiful house and grounds. Cafe on site with a good selection of snacks and drinks. Lovely staff. Stunning walk through the grounds. Highly recommended to visit this beautiful property.
H. B.
Thoroughly enjoyed our day here. History of the building through the years very cleverly done. Particularly enjoyed the explanation of "old sayings". Everyday a leaning day. Good coffee and cake. Toilet facilities very clean. Nice walk around the apple core! Didn't disappoint and will be a great place to come again with the family.
J. L.
A delightful property, quiet, tranquil a place where you can relax immediately.
The new walks the Staff and Volunteers have designed and made give the visitor a choice of a stroll on fairly flat gravelled paths or more challenging walks if you so desire.
The Granary cafe/ tea room is lovely.
All the Staff & Volunteers I've come into contact with couldn't be more helpful.
It's a must to visit.
J. H.
Great national trust Farm House, walks .
Great volunteer on the gate house, very knowledgeable.
All staff were very nice.
Had a lovely ice cream, and sandwich, drinks in there converted shop to cafe.

Gorgeous place to visit.. the house has lots to see and the surroundings are beautiful and peaceful. My children enjoyed the trail we purchased on our way in and the cafe was an enjoyable place for refreshments.. added bonus was the bookshop and the hammocks. I would definitely recommend a visit.
D. B.
Beautiful little farm house, that has a moat and a gatehouse. Lovely little building with a limewash exterior. It's a small building with two floors and plenty of history.
G. C.
Absolutely beautiful. Beautiful countryside walks, farm land and historical buildings. Lovely day out.
j. m.
Nice gardens with easy short walks or longer harder walks with a nice restaurant and a fabulous house
J. M.
What a hidden gem, we loved it. House told its own story. Orchard was amazing. We spent 4hours here and didn't want to leave. Staff were great, obviously love to volunteer, very knowledgeable.
We had a brilliant day there, thank you all.
s. a.
Not a large house but full of interesting things and well looked after, nice walks around the the property ranging in distance, ample parking book shop and cafe.
L. M.
We were staying at Bromyard Downs caravan and motor home site which is opposite the entrance to the NT property and being members we went in to have a look. Luckily we were in the car as it was a mile drive from the entrance to the moated house. There are miles of walks round the estate. The house is more than 600 years old. There's an orchard with lots of trees covered with Damsons. I was told the Damsons can be bought when ripe. Not the usual stuffy NT property and well worth a visit.
W. A.
Beautiful house and moat full of water lillies.
N. R.
Fabulous little gem of a place. Definitely worth going.
L. B.
We visited here as a family. My son prefers national trust places with large outside areas and this definitely has it.
There are lots of walks around the property. Nice and peaceful when we visited. We will visit again.
M. B.
What a lovely experience. Thoroughly enjoyable 😉
M. G.
Nice cool mediaeval house. Perfect stop off on a hot journey. Probably would have been nice to do a walk there if it wasn't so hot when we visited (30+C)
T. T.
Really pretty house in a lovelly peacfull setting. Fabulous walks on the estate though woodland or around the local estate fields, all well signed. Long walks about 2.5 hours at a steady pace.
G. A.
A fun time Damson picking, not quite all ripe yet though.
L. N.
We loved this place as the house was not too overwhelming and full of interesting artefacts which follows the story of who lived there through the ages. You have to be careful if you are not too good with steps etc but just take it slowly and it's well worth the visit.
R. F.
Beautiful old house of family proportions from the 1600s. Lots of old large beams, small leaded windows and nice chimneys surrounded by a moat which is crossed by a fabulous house bridge. Courtyard of old buildings with picnic tables and toilets nearby. The drive down to the car park is spectacular.
M. G.
Lovely place to visit and nice walks
M. M.
This is an unusual property with it's small gatehouse entry to cross the moat which fully surrounds the house.
The house itself has a long history of owners. The original owners moved to more fashionable residences allowing a succession of farm workers to live there. The rooms are furnished to represent different periods of occupancy e.g you have a room representing what it would have looked like in 1952, complete with a copy of "The Dandy" comic book and a burning log fire. Another room represents what the Gentleman's study would have looked like in 1936.
Whilst the building is quite small compared to some NT properties, the grounds are extensive and I think many people visit for walking the trails here. Should also note the lovely orchard with it's beautiful white damson blossoms
S. T.
Lovely walk through the orchard.
H. S.
A lovely place. Very interesting history and one of the few stately places I'd actually want to live at! A lot of open ground to walk on as well so take your boots
G. J.
Fantastic place to visit.
The house is great and the story interesting.
Second hand bookshop is worth a visit and the grounds are vast.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Will return in better weather.
A. M.
Brockhampton house is a beautifully preserved and presented timber and wattle and daub house. It was passed down from generation to generation for 600 years. Each room is set out to represent a different era. Walking around the house is essentially a journey through time. Also remarkable is the gatehouse; a unique Tudor building.
P. L.
What a lovely place to visit. Charming old manor and some excellent, well laid out walks. We had a couple couple of hours there.
A. M.
Lovely secluded NT gem! Felt a lot more modest and quaint compared with most NT estates. A lot older buildings with some interesting history. There are some great walks around the grounds. Ranging from short to long - something for every ability. Will visit again soon.
R. A.
We visited at the end of November when the House and some walks were closed. We drove down to the car park near the House and followed the yellow signs for the Carriage Drive walk which was spectacular. The gate was closed and it was not clear how to get out. Worked out that it opens automatically towards the car!
B. T.
Picturesque gardens, orchards and woodland. House was closed due to Covid19 but Cafe and toilets open. Well worth a visit.
D. W.
Great for walking, long or short walk.
Beautiful old house.
Refreshments available.
A. M.
We stumbled across this place by accident when on holiday. Absolutely loved it. It was fairly quiet, which was good (but a shame at the same time as it is such a hidden gem). The house was really interesting and very interactive for the kids. It was like a walk through time of the different people who lived there up until fairly recently.
Archery was on, which was great fun. Grounds were lovely and interesting information dotted around about the fruit and how it was used previously.
Small cafe served limited supply of coffee, cake and ice cream. Larger restaurant at the entrance coming on which we didn't go to.
D. a.
Very peaceful, lovely little house, nice cafe and small second hand bookshop. Some lovely walks through the orchard or around the estate.
V. J. L.
Lovely place, lovely staff but the orchards need some tlc
D. S.
Such a beautiful property and once a lovely home. Idyllic and well worth a visit.
J. G.
Stunning house and gardens. Clearly invested a lot of over the past two years with new play areas and trees being planted in the ground. Great for dog walks.
J. M.
Gorgeous house Very interesting visit and lovely friendly staff
D. C.
The house, although small, is full of history. Lots of artefacts, including old newspapers, comics and magazines, all available to read through. It's very picturesque in a lovely setting.
The granary food place didn't have a great selection of food and we went back up to the tea rooms near the entrance for something to eat - although it also didn't offer a vast range, but there was hot food.
After the house, I think the walks are the best feature about this place, or the features that would bring you back.
An enjoyable couple of hours, would have been more if we had more time available for a longer walk.
S. D.
What a quaint little place in the middle of isolated and remote countryside, simply beautiful 😍
K. C.
Stopped off on a journey to strech my legs and have a refreshm break. Long drive down from the main road, main tea room closed, refreshments now served in a building with what appears to be limited indoor seating and tea was teabag in a cardboard cup the scone likewise on a paper plate, sorry not what NT should be doing! Three stars only because the staff were OK. I'll give it a miss next time.
M. S.
Excellent NT small manor house. Well maintained in beautiful location. Worth a visit.
i. w.
Plenty to do. Utterly beautiful, a lovely place, steaped in history. Splendid vista's, wonderful atmosphere. Helpful staff and
P. D.
Very friendly staff. Lovely location and grounds. Very interesting place. Well worth a visit.
P. D.
Walked around Orchard walk not to bad new tree,s not grown yet pleasant walk though house and facilities ok ,wife looked around the house. The woodland walk was fairly long it looks like they are grovelling all the pathways throughout, looks like it Will take them a few months yet but again will be good when finished we had a downpour of rain just as we walked so a bit slippy in places take some boots at the moment overall good
J. P.
A very interesting visit to a manor house. The site is small so it's good for a morning then luncheon. Cafe serves usual National Trust selection. Area for eating outside. Shop sells usual NT gifts and some overpriced plants. There is also a secondhand book store on site. The house itself is interesting and worth a look. Highlights for the family were the demonstrations of Saxon survival skills by Richard Clarke from Really Rural. Very interesting person indeed.
C.
Lovely manor house, very picturesque. Lots of places to picnic.
G. W.
Beautiful National Trust estate and manor to visit. A lovely location with all you could imagine countryside with nice teashops and picnic areas, bookshop and giftshop. Lovely to see the Spring lambs last week in a nice walkway.
R. H.
Lovely setting and the new orchard walk is very nice and easily accessible with a pushchair
C. O.
Lovely area to walk, we did the larger 7 km loop and it was very nice with the dogs. A bit muddy in spots definitely wear good boots. The little national trust area was very Interesting as well, the main house was done up with each room as a different era.
J. B.
Fabulous house, moat/moat house/gardens and park. Tucked away in beautiful countryside. Spent all afternoon there...would definitely revisit
P. M.
A historic house with a difference. Each room is set as it would have been in a different year/ decade/ century. We'll worth the visit. Be prepared for a long drive/ walk between 2 sites.
J. S.
Great. Peaceful, and I mean really peaceful. Staff friendly, coffee is good - although park at the top for this. Good natural play trail for kids. Highly recommend.
V. R.
An amazing place we loved the 600yr old Manor House surrounded by its own moat. Each room depicted a different time in history. Lots of walks throughout the park & wonderful Damson trees in fruit in late Aug /Sept we picked some which the shop weighs £2.50 a kilo. Back home we made lovely jam. 🙂
M. S.
We had a lovely if slightly muddy walk here followed by a hot chocolate which the lady was kind enough to serve us despite us arriving just after closing time. Highly recommend a visit.
S. g.
This house is like a tardis. From the outside it looks small but pretty with its moat and black and white style. But once youve explored the crokked gatehouse and ruined church you will be surprised at the size of the main house. Its like a mansion in miniature and very interesting. See if you can spot the anti poaching gun while you are there. Its the only one i have ever seen.
D. C.
A place that has a great story to tell. Keen and well informed staff added to the visit. Thank you.
C. H.
So much to do here for all ages....walks in the wood and a play trail, historic buildings to walk round....tea shops and an orchard that opens for damsel picking a few months of the year. An all round great find!
D. F.
Knowledgeable volunteers and great information throughout, arrived just before the orchard play areas opened but they look like will be great fun for the kids.
B. T.
I went on a Tuesday. It has one of the longest drives I have ever been down!
I loved looking at the house, but sadly didn't check opening times, so it was closed. I walked around and had a cuppa ,looked at books and used the facilities. Bring the walking boots , children and dogs, as great walks in beautiful countryside to be had.
K. O.
A really charming 15 th century house and gatehouse. A National Trust property with a huge orchard.
G. N.
Nice area for a picnic in the court yard. Cafe is small, take out only but good. A new paths has been made though the orchard and is in the process of being extended more.
Pity the kids trail though the forest path was over grown and off limits.
Didn't go in the house on this occasion but have always enjoyed walking round.
The walks around the grounds are great and take up to a few hours depending on the route taken.
D. W.
Another great place we visited, well worth the visit & plenty of woodland walks 👍🙂
R. C.
A very interesting place to visit
L. S.
Amazing day out - lots to see and do. Beautifully restored house with lots of history. Great place to take children, too.
J. T.
A lovely house and gatehouse, very very old, a little small but still a worthwhile visit.
Aug 2022 update - The house currently has all the external plaster work and timbers painted white. I guess it's for preservation needs (timber).
The moat water level is currently very low which looks odd, none of these things affect the enjoyment of the place.
We found out that heavy duty mobility scooters are available without charge!
Altogether a lovely place to visit.
K. C.
Beautiful place to visit. Great for walking/hiking. Lots of greenery and scenery. The house is beautifully preserved and interactive.
T. B.
Excellent. Very peaceful a very place agreat place to visit. Nice tea roomsand gardens
E. B.
House fully open on both floors. Lots of historic content from different eras. Staff on hand if you need them.
S. W.
Visited on a sunny autumn afternoon. Spectacular scenery with plenty of walks. Interesting old house. Cafe very basic - drinks/crisps/chocolate with a couple of unattractive cakes. Given the USP of the estate is the heritage orchard, this looked scruffy and uncared for. Will visit again for walks and views and take own refreshments.
J. K.
This property particularly appeals to me because if it's Medieval origins. As a small manor house, it provided an interesting contrast to the great ancestral houses and parklands. The guides were most welcoming and informative. The layout in the kitchen was an evocative feature. What struck me most was the peaceful secluded valley setting. It was like stepping into another world. The picnic tables were handy.
B. F.
Picturesque historical house and gardens, nestled in the countryside near Worcester. Well worth a visit and a great place for a picnic.
O. D.
Beautiful medieval manor house. Smaller national trust propery but with outstanding views and conservation. The cafe's food is basic if not poor.
J. T.
Lovely well kept and plenty of open space
D. S.
Love the walks, the house, the outdoor space by the orchard for picnicking
D. M.
Absolutely stunning place to visit full of character and history
S.
Pretty house, lovely walks through fields and forests.
P. W.
Excellent property brought to life by the volunteers would definitely recommend a visit
J.
Lovely little property set in some stunning countryside. I can recommend the Carriage Rides Walk which towards the latter half (between way point 5 and 8) gives some fantastic views. Beware however between way point 3 and 4, through 'Paradise Wood' it was quite muddy.
a. m.
First visit here. Nice walks and an interesting Manor house which was well worth a visit.
C. H.
Beautiful place with lovely walks through the ancient orchard
A. G.
NT done so much here restoring the orchards as always staff are friendly and knowledgeable good day out would recommend coming here
L. W.
Wonderful peaceful atmospheric very old place. Love it as it is
D. M.
Such a wonderful setting. Sensitively restored house.Really enjoyed our visit.
M. H.
Well worth a visit! Hidden away and worth seeking out
A. T.
Lovely place to visit with good access for my wheelchair where I can safely walk the dogs in the grounds with my wheelchair. If you're looking for some great walks in the countryside with an ancient manor House loads of history then you can't go wrong.
S. S.
Please don't go here if you don't love tranquillity, beautiful old orchards and cottage gardens alive with bees ...
P. S.
A lovely small Tudor Manor house. Takes about an hour to go round. Lovely grounds for walking in.
J. R.
Lots of work done in last few years to open new rooms .informative staff
P. W.
Visited in the depths of winter but still open and a warm greeting from an enthusiastic team. Great tea and cake in the cafe
C. E.
The walk around the estate gives you a bit of everything. Woodland, meadows, lakes and fabulous views.
C. R.
Nice little place
S. H.
Really pretty old house. Nice walks although play area is more of a play walk which is good.
S. C.
Amazing and so beautiful even in the rain 😄
S. P.
What a lovely little cottage, and to think it was still being lived in until 2014!
L. C.
Such a gorgeous setting in a beautiful part of the country. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Couldn't go into the manor house but the grounds were worth the trip on there own. Really nice to see many people on the walks and also staying safe under the current circumstances.
P. H.
Wonderful walks in a beautiful setting. The house is very interesting to , unfortunately closed present. We still enjoyed our day out though. Made the most of the fantastic orchard to go damson picking. Now our cupboard is full of lovely jam .
Absolutely recommend this gem to anyone .
a. s.
Me and my son aged 10 loved this place. Will be back.
C. H.
Fantastic place to visit and take a picnic with you. 😉
J. E.
Yet again a lovely day out at Brockhampton House. Plenty of walks on the estate. A lot up hill but house and orchard are all flat. Outdoor seating area and small cafe. Great day
C. J.
First time visited very interesting and charming house.
N. D.
Interesting to listen to what volunteer had to say about what happened years ago
J. T.
A lovely place for a day out. It's very different to to average a national trust property. It's an old small house with a cottage style garden with lovely walks and trails.
C. L.
Visiting Brockhampton with the grandchildren is always fun. At 7 and 13 they are inquisitive and attentive so the interactions with the knowledgeable volunteers really added to the visit.
There is ongoing work to extend and improve the walks round the grounds but none of the rurality is spoilt.
The cafe at the house, in the valley, refreshed us with drinks and freshly cooked sausage rolls.
This is one of our regular National Trust locations and will continue to be so.
M.
Great hidden gem and a lovely location and so much history
P. B.
One of the best NT houses. Well worth the trip
A. C. (. V. W.
Lovely NT place which I will return to in the future, worth a visit for sure.
P. M.
Nice little NT property. Fairly quiet at this time of year. Got to see the manor house which was good and staff very knowledgeable. Kiosk open selling snacks and drinks. Lots of walks but steep (and very muddy at the moment!)
t. r.
A medieval farmhouse, very well presented and very interesting.
J. B.
Small but interesting property. A lot of work going on in the grounds, planting new trees, putting in new paths. Will be good to visit in a couple of years to see progress.
P. A.
House very interesting . In the grounds they are spending thousands on tree planting, will be very good in a few years
L. B.
Beautiful and interesting.
R. D.
The actual farm house and car park are quite a distance from the main road but well worth the trip to visit. Great staff giving information about the history of the building and the people who lived here. Good walks in the surrounding estate. Usual National Trust cafe facilities and shop available. Good sized car park to cope with a good number of walkers as well as visitors to the buildings.
M. D.
Dropped in on the off chance, really interesting place and coffee shop was great. Unfortunately many of the longer walks were closed. Would visit again after checking the walks were open.
f. c.
Very interesting place to visit. The rooms are nicely set out to take you through the history of the house. In a beautiful setting with lots of nice walks. Has a lovely moat and a lovely ruined chapel. Well worth a visit.
T. C.
National trust brockhampton
Stunning drive in beautiful views the guides on the day at brockhampton house were most informative and gave an excellent talk on the history of the house and everyone was most friendly
If you like walking then there is plenty of short or long walks great day out for a picnic
G. W.
Interesting medieval house in beautiful surroundings. Great for walks and hiking. Two car parks. One near entrance but long way to house, the other much closer to house. It depends what you're visiting for as to which one you park in. Well worth a visit
E. C.
A very nice day, this is a very pleasant place to spend an afternoon in the peace and quiet of the countryside. The buildings are interesting and remind me of my childhood ... a lot fancier than what I grew up in but still very reminiscent. Nice to walk around with little but the sheep and lambs for company.
C. S.
Seating outside for refreshments. The Hall gives a good insight as to how people lived . There are sign posted walks to take through woods and fields. Car Park available.
A. P.
Lovely old buildings and surrounding garden and pond shame we could.nt go in..
C. R.
Very interesting house and beautiful grounds
L. P.
A good site with several walks (some hilly and muddy) but generally nice and tranquil. As required we prebooked for our Sunday afternoon visit. On this particular day the NT had decided to leave the opening of the tea facility until Monday - a bit daft in my opinion.
a. w.
Loved my visit to Brockhampton.
Magnificent scenery & lovely walks.
J. G.
Beautiful house. Rather dark and dingy cafe, and staff who directed our party on a route which was pretty impassible for a wheelchair and a buggy.
They've made a pretty fun kids area. And older kids will love the trails and rope climbs.
We didn't have the best experience. Hopefully you'll have better luck.
M. W. (.
Brilliant National Trust, only stopped here on a whim as we were in the area, but really glad we did. Lovely estate with interesting house and walks all around it. My daughter loved the adventure trail, which had fun things to do throughout a 1.5 mile walk. Loads left to explore so will definitely return. Probably my favourite Nat Trust now (sorry Snowshill :))
D.
This National trust site is super. There are some me good walks through the woods down to the house from the upper car park, or you can drive down to the house. All the facilities are easy to access and close by. The house itself and immediate surroundings are interesting to see and learn about but for me not the main attraction of the location.
M. M.
Great place to visit and some very nice walks all the way round the site for you to explore with or without your dog.
J. C.
The house itself was very interesting but not too much to see. Plenty of lovely walking area but separate parking for the main area of the Brockhampton estate. Visitors shop was nice but café not near the house. You could buy a takeaway tea/coffee from the shop.
M. M. E.
Great place to visit well done national trust
J. S.
Excellent staff beautiful grounds for walking
J. D.
Carol singers, mulled wine and mince pies... very festive... feeling very Christmassy now xx 😊
S. K.
Lovely place, will be returning when the ground dries up a bit. Really friendly, knowledgeable people on the gate & in the house. Only let down by a not very friendly person in the main cafe (by the entrance) and lack of food availability, we had planned a day out with lunch for my son's Birthday & we couldn't get any lunch which was disappointing on a Saturday. I wouldn't go in the café again, but will certainly return to Brockhampton - with a picnic next time!
P. B.
Lovely estate. We only visited the Lower house and followed the natural play trail. Much more could be made of this, we were expecting a lot more for kids around it so we're glad our lad had his bike. Cafe etc all looked nice. So many Damson trees in full fruit will stay with me!
B. H.
Fascinating and attractive small timber framed manor house and gate house on part of a huge working estate. Interesting layout with rooms relating to different eras. The usual helpful National Trust staff made it a pleasure. If was the first time we'd seen a costumed minstrel playing antique instruments though - he was very good too.
P. H.
Two great tea rooms.
Happy, efficient, knowledgeable staff.
Plenty of different walks.
Shop and second-hand book shop.
Have been here probably 4 times in 10yrs , and the National Trust work hard to show the property in a 'different light,' through research, opening 'new' rooms, telling 'new' stories about the people that lived or worked there.( they do it with all the properties )
Great day out for the family. Take a picnic.
S. J.
Very interesting, well laid out showing the history of the house over the centuries with plenty of interactive things for children and able to touch a lot of the items really bringing history to life. Set in a beautiful garden and moat pond. Plus walks.
K. B.
A really interesting house which is great for families, as you can pick things up and get involved in the history of the house. There are also a number of walks around the surrounding countryside. We do the longest one (I think it is the yellow walk) which takes us around 1.5 hours including a short break. Walking boots recommended. There is also two cafes to take advantage of.
T. K.
Beautiful location. The scenery is stunning.
J. A.
A beautiful and peaceful setting with a gorgeous house. Each room is linked to someone who would have lived in the house and is decorated in the style of their period. There was also information about the conservation work that was on going in rooms so you could understand why things were being done in a specific way. Helpful and friendly staff.
C. N.
Beautiful, picturesque house and grounds, as you can see. Very welcoming and knowledgable guides. Not masses to entertain the kids after the garden rope swing, but I get this isn’t a playground, it’s a beautiful and historic English gem.
P. F.
Excellent National trust house and grounds. Not as busy as many others but lovely for that.
A. N.
Lovely estate and museum. Manor was surprisingly child friendly, and the kids loved exploring. Drive from the main road was very pleasant too. Huge estate does mean that you need to be a bit more agile to visit more parts.
C. S.
As with most NT properties it is well laid out, explained well and small. There is the house, a shell of a church and the stable/workshop area where the café/shop is housed. It was ideal for my aging mother who could not walk too far. If you want to go further there are walks through the hilly estate. Lower seems to mean "at the bottom of a hill". Staff were really helpful and let us drive to the house to pick my somewhat tired mother up at the end of our stay. This is normally off limits to the public. Shop and cafe are very small but areas round the courtyard gave the impression that there were treadle lathe demonstrations at times. Not when we went though. Very pleasant afternoon was had by both of us.
M. W.
We only came for a quick walk in the grounds as our friends had said how lovely it is. They weren't wrong. It's a beautiful place and we'll definitely be coming back soon to see the whole site and the buildings too.
S. H.
Beautiful place to visit, lots of walks as well as the buildings to look around and couple of tea rooms. Interesting information about farming for children. Lovely warm welcome both when we arrived and also when we visited the house. The staff engaged in conversation with us, talking about the history and listened to us about other places we have visited. The only thing that was slightly off putting was I was going to purchase a purse from the sale part of the shop. This is opposite to the main shop, the staff member mopped the floor and then shut the door so I wasn't able to. It would had been nice if she had told us that part was shutting well before the time the shop was due to close.
S. P.
Great National Trust house showing the ages through six centuries by visiting each room. The grounds of the house have a moat filled with lilies and Dragon flies. There are two restaurant s and plenty of picnicking areas. There are several walking in the grounds the longest being 3.75miles. Wonderful views.
A. H.
Lots of space to walk and enjoy the spring air without being blown away! The damsom bloosom and lots of black lambs were out when we visited. The Court is a small, but interesting NT house - and make sure you talk to the volunteers who can tell you the histories because they know and want you to enjoy it as well. Places to get drink.and snacks at top and bottom of the hill at very good rates! A very enjoyable time had by all - including the dog who slept all the way home!!!
G. K.
Lovely sleepy place to explore, it's like it has been left alone in its own time bubble.
A. L.
Beautiful place, great grounds
R. P.
Interesting place to visit, with extensive grounds to enjoy walks of varied lengths to an old house which spans the centuries, staff are helpful and knowledgeable.
j. p.
Excellent. Beautiful scenery. Staff very helpful with info. Lovely afternoon. Property well maintained. Even saw a wren's nest.
A. W.
Lovely Tudor national trust property. Not a stately home but a much smaller, quaint and quirky place. A family home. They even have bats in the attic and if it is quiet enough when you are in the bedroom you can here them. Beautiful gardens and a huge orchard with ancient damson trees. From September you can pick your own damsons which are reasonably priced.
C. F.
Friendly welcome. Knowledgable friendly volunteers. House is lovely and oldy woldy feel. Really interesting volunteer doing a cooking demonstration in costume, with a medieval recipe of Pease Pudding. Would like to see text in a larger font though. Park is really good for walks, but some areas to be aware of during wet conditions.
Would advise parking down by house, as long way to walk and then drive back up to entrance, if hot meals for lunch wanted. If you want to sit inside to eat, go earlier as quite small room. Plenty of room outside though I god weather.
Great if you like walking and beautiful scenery All in all an enjoyable visit.
P. C.
Picturesque National Trust Manor set in huge grounds consisting of numerous long walks surrounded by stunning views , a real step back in time not matter what direction you look.
The House itself is a small building when compared to the grounds that it commands. However this is not a bad thing , it has a tranquil homely quality to it , and the rooms within the house are tastefully presented showing various ages and times of the house's occupancy.
All the staff were so friendly and knowledgable, full of storeys and time to chat , defiantly a place we will be returning too , my only negative (and this is down to my own selfish photography reasons) , was that the moat contained way too many lilly pads , making reflection photography hard. However this is more due to the time of year we visited , and when the main summer season starts it will be clear again !
M. H.
Lovely calm place, beautiful house and garden. Virtually tame sparrows at the lower tearoom. Would recommend parking at the top carpark and then enjoying the 30 minute walk through the forest to the mediaeval house, very atmospheric.
M. R. (.
An historic gem of a place - I've visited many historic houses & by comparison with the big country estates this was small but so very interesting & very picturesque. There's a coffee shop with parking at the top of the estate (serving drinks, light lunches, snacks & ice creams. The 1 & 1/2 mile drive (or walk if you're fit enough) downhill to the Manor House is a long, winding route through fields & pretty woodland - some wonderful old trees. Parking clearly signposted on arrival. A pretty & carefully looked after moat (with swans & ducks) surrounds the Manor House itseIf. If you follow the "path" through the restored house (it goes up stairs so parts of the house may be inaccessible to some) it is cleverly tailored to give a physical as well as written history of the use/occupation of the house - wherever possible utilising actual items from several time periods from around 1500s until the late1900s - absolutely fascinating. The (original) Main Hall has been carefully restored & its roof is gorgeous if you're into historic architecture. There is even a beamed, two storey gatehouse (picturesque) over the moat, a ruined church next to it & other farm outbuildings - some now utilised as a National Trust shop & another coffee shop serving drinks & snacks with outdoor seating. If you can manage the stairs there's more up there too. Separate toilet facilties were clean & parking was available. Lots of space for little ones to run around in. Information boards all over & clever ways of teaching children about farming around the cafe area. Dogs on leads allowed in the grounds. We had a wonderful, relaxing afternoon (using up much battery power taking so many photographs!) wandering through this fascinating snapshot of history. Well worth visiting.
L. J.
Wonderful grounds to walk and the house is amazing. Each room dedicated (and furnished) to highlight a different part of the extensive history of Brockhampton. A great experience with some helpful and knowledgeable volunteers and enthusiastic and friendly staff. Will definitely be back.
V. C.
Quite different to your usual national trust stately home, really quirky and very pretty house and surroundings. What I liked about the house was that each room was a different decade, so you get an idea of how it would have changed through the ages. The time of year we went, there are damson trees everywhere which you can pick, and in the house kitchen there are handy little damson recipe sheets! We had a dog so had to go round the house separelty as they are only allowed in the grounds. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because I think it is quite expensive for the size of the house, obviously there are some lovely walks too, but I could do that for free in this area!
M. H.
Great new walks and play grounds
M. F.
A beautiful old moated manor house lovingly restored and set in extensive and beautiful countryside marked with walks of different lengths. Of course there is also a cafe and gift shop.
Look out for the various events which take place here - carol singing in the Great Hall and wassailing in the orchard among them.
M. H.
Easy to access, free parking, great gardens and house, friendly staff. Tea room down near the manor is quite small but thrt is another at the top of the estate. Plenty of walks, all a minimum of an hour.
R. D.
It covered everything that we both wanted: views, strenuous different terrain walks, photographic delights, icecream, history. So both of us are happy. Not many butterflies as expected but orchards were wonderful. Met a farmer. Picnic on old old old oak tree. Hay bales. A gorgeous moat with bullrushes.
h. j.
One of our favourite places. Lovely walk around the estate
F. S.
An amazing really old building lots to see, a lot of history. Good COFFEE. Nice walks around the grounds.
G.
Lovely old house in the care of the National Trust, interestingly set out to illustrate the various centuries and people who have lived there. Loads of walks in the estate, eating places and shop. Damson harvest was underway and you can pick your own or buy.
N. P.
Beautiful ancient house in beautiful rolling countryside.
D. S.
Lovely place nice long walks
L. D. (.
Orchards are a great way to spend time with little ones. The damson trees near the entrance are almost empty, but the furthest ones through the gate are still loaded. There are plenty of apples and pears still waiting to be picked!
K. B.
It is situated in a nice area with a long drive down to it on a single track road but has passing places .Not the biggest National Trust property but still is a beautiful place to visit ,the rooms are set out in different time periods
A. B.
Loved it because of the environment, threat the house is so cleverly laid out, the shop was also excellent. Real care and thought in the place. Went on long walk then to the pleasant cafe. Brilliant day.
P. R.
Interesting long drive on approach, gorgeous countryside surrounding, good walks in the grounds, buildings only of passing interest. Refreshments limited.
N. T.
A lovely small house in stunning surroundings, with plenty of walks to take in the gorgeous Worcestershire countryside.
V. E.
Always a friendly relaxing place to visit, the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.
M.
Lovely place to call in on, beautiful gardens, my 16 year old Nephew loved the history of the place, well sign posted with information, lovely cafe, helpful staff.
R. O.
The history behind this, is fascinating and very, very old due to its architecture and archaeology. One could sense the souls that occupied the dwelling.
...well done, NT but one star missing for overzealous volunteers. We don't need unasked-for information, thank you very much. 🙄
R. A.
Superb example of past generations "showing off their wealth"
R. P.
A National Trust Little Gem near to Bromyard Aproached with Magnificent views of the River Teme Valley
S. H.
Beautiful location and a fascinating history. Very helpful staff. Really enjoyable day out.
R. M.
A lovely drive down with magnificent views across the valley, plenty of parking space and a short walk then to the old half timbered farm house which has a moat (part way round it).
Small shop and tea room.
D. B.
Great insight into history of the area. Visually stunning
L. H.
Lovely walks any time of year
R. T.
Tranquil spot with interesting history. Great place to walk around and unwind. Apple store tea room staff friendly and helpful. In fact all staff were welcoming. Thanks!

O. K.
Another NT place in our area. Very colorful in summer. Great hot chocolate 🙂 plenty of nature walks.
M. C.
First visit to this property. An interesting place. The NT staff were very helpful and informative.
C. S.
Wonderful story of England's past well explained by the volunteers. The hoise is not just about the usual Nobs & toffs but real people too. The estate's Great War soldiers letters home, are heart rending.
G. S.
Love this place, so peaceful. A hidden gem!
A. M.
Interesting N/Trust house, lived in for almost 600 years.
P. R.
Beautiful old house and estate
We went on blue trail for a walk and felt that arrows could be better placed took ages to find one gatein middle of walk then after hide sign on tree in blue pointed forward we ended up on red walk
Still lovely afternoon
S. S.
Will be good to see the orchards as they develop.
A. B.
Very beautiful and peaceful
S. T.
Spent the day today. Was tranquil, peaceful, well distanced. Enough to entertain from 4yo to 70yo. Cafe service and all serving staff polite and helpful.
J. L.
A lovely national trust site with plenty of walks through both open fields & forest areas. Manor house is good to look around too.
A. S.
National Trust property.Sadly closed on Mon Tuesday even though we had booked. Taken away cafe and gift shop. Sorry NT not good..
C. W.
Not much to see here unless you want to walk the grounds which are quite extensive. The father's day "event" was poorly organised. Unless you are a National Trust member it is poor value for your money.
J. A.
Usual excellent National Trust offering. Contents are not original to the house. Best tea room is at the ' new' hall at the top of the hill near the entrance.
L. Q.
Beautiful House with a wealth of history, surroundings are stunning. Ladies at the entrance were very helpful. Looking forward to going back in the summer
J. S.
Somewhere for a relaxing meander through the new orchard and enjoying the sun at the same time.
E. l.
Lovely place for a wander around. Very narrow track to get to the house and grounds so be ready to do some off roading if a car comes the other way.
A. W.
One of the best historical buildings I've ever visited. Timbered house with interesting displays in a beautiful setting. Staff welcoming and informative.
A. C.
Great place lovely gardens and house weather was beautiful which made the day even better. Despite being a bank holiday the grounds wasn't too busy.
G. S.
Idyllic. Let's hope the national trust don't ruin it as they are so many other places. Despoiling them with cafes, play areas. Slides, climbing frames, zip wires etc etc just chasing the parent cash cow.
L. O.
Brilliant. Lovely and tranquil. Amazing 'find' close to a holiday home that we booked and used the App to locate it. Loved it. Wish we had stayed longer.
J. W.
Worth the visit. Beautiful house and cottage garden. Guides new their stuff and made it interesting not just factual.
S. W.
Adorable house &, gardens, and very friendly staff/volunteers highly recommend and will return 😊😊
J. B.
Nice walk and historical
A. M.
Great day out. Since we last went the whole house is open. Many more rooms to see. Decent tea rooms both at the main entrance and down by the house.
J. S.

D. H.
The house was smaller than I'd expected but beautifully preserved and some really lovely walks around the very large grounds.

H. D.
Picturesque. And some fabulous walks too.
V. R.
Nice place for a wander
K. P.
Been here several times, this time just for a coffee. We learned that there is an upstairs area over the cafe that isn't well advertised or known. Take a look for it as it beats sitting outside in the cold!
J. W.
Hidden gem of a moated Manor House. Set in beautiful valley. Feels a world away, if escape is your thing, but not remote. Perfectly civilised.
R. G.
Beautiful grounds. Family friendly. Only disappointment was condition of toilets. Unclean and without toilet paper for much of the day
P. T.
Beautiful grounds and a quaint little country house, managed by the NT to their usual high standards
C. S.
Fabulous day out with the Grandchildren.
D. W.
Drove the extra mile and half down to the lower car park missing out the long walk down and back UP, for a change. Love the house reflections in the moat, always a different picture.

The Brockhampton Estate is a farmed estate in Herefordshire, England, which is owned by the National Trust.
The Brockhampton Estate is located on the edge of Bringsty Common near the town of Bromyard.
The main attraction of the Brockhampton Estate is Lower Brockhampton, a timber framed manor housethat dates back to the late 14th century. The manor house is surrounded by a moat and is entered by a newly restored gatehouse at the front of the house.
The house is surrounded by 1,000 acres (400 ha) of farmland, some of it parkland with fine specimen trees, and 700 acres (280 ha) of woodland.
In 2010, the National Trust undertook a major restoration project to the house using traditional wattle and daub building methods.[1]
The Brockhampton Estate was bequeathed to the National Trust in 1946 by Colonel John Lutley, in whose family it had been for more than twenty generations, although the name of the family had changed several times through marriage.[2]
The site of the medieval village of Studmarsh is thought to be located in the estate. In 2012, an archaeological dig unearthed the foundations of two buildings that may have been part of the village.[3]
S. P.
Great long walk, we saw frogs, fish and birds of prey. Found the wooden horse too.
