Reviews of National Trust - The Firs: Elgar's Birthplace
J. W.
Was pleasantly surprised as I didn't realise that there was both a Visitors Centre AND The Firs with the most beautiful cottage type garden as well. My visit was at the same time as two school visits but the children weren't in the cottage so I was left to wander quite happily with just one or two other visitors. Although not knowing a huge amount about Elgar, I do enjoy his music and found all the exhibits really interesting. Certainly worth a visit if you are in the area. The cafe wasn't available when I visited due to a lack of staff but the staff that I did meet were friendly and full of Elgar information.
N. H.
A delightful visit to the historic birthplace of a great composer. The guides made this experience so worthwhile, sharing theor knowledge and passion of the great man.
The exhibition display boards were very interesting, as were the artifacts, but the highlight was the talk and musical snippets shared by the guide Richard.
Visiting the small cottage and gardens was the icing on the cake.
If you are interested to find out more there are books (many for £1 to £5) and CDs/vinyl for very reasonable prices.
Also on site is free parking, picnic benches outside, toilets and a cafe.

What a lovely little national trust property! A great place to visit to learn about Edward Elgar. We were welcomed warmly by Diane and introduced to the property when we arrived. Richard gave an excellent talk on Elgar and played musical compositions from throughout his life. And then we visited his cottage where another very knowledgeable guide gave us more details about his life. Well worth a visit!
J. M.
Lovely setting, obviously alot smaller than a majority of NT buildings, but nice to see all the same. As usual the guides and volunteers were wonderful, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.
K. A.
Fascinating house, if you have the time pop in its lovely, being a national trust member helps as it's free to get in but lots to see and has a lovely coffee shop with conformable seating
T. B.
A fascinating museum covering the life of this remarkable man, whom I admit I was not terribly familiar with. Certainly provides an intriguing insight into the man, his world and family.
L. F.
I confess to having little knowledge of Elgar the family man and the visit to the Firs was fascinating.
His life, marriage and family life along with his musical career was explained by the guides in detail and showed a real interest in the composer; their knowledge and enthusiasm was excellent and made the man come to life as a real person. A very rewarding experience I would definitely recommend.
R. C.
All the staff were so very welcoming and so grateful that we had made the effort to visit too! I wasn't quite sure what I expected but it was so much better than my expectations!
I especially liked the gardens, the piano and the chess set but my absolute favourite was the statue of Sir Edward Elgar casually sat on the bench. A wonderful photo opportunity!
All in all fantastic visit abd highly recommended even for those that are not "into" his music whereas I am!
C. B.
Was fascinating. An excellent museum full of artifacts and memorabilia. He was born in that pokey cold cottage, and kept being drawn back home.
A. C.
The birthplace of Edward Elgar. Lovely small cottage with lots of interesting artifacts and information. The house itself is very small but you need to take the time to read about Edward and his upbringing. In the visitor center there is an exhibition room, a room about composing music and a 20minute video to watch.
D. R.
A bit of a hidden gem, The Firs is a lovingly curated and fascinating journey through the life and times of Sir Edward Elgar. You’ll be familiar with his music and his life story doesn’t disappoint. Definitely one to visit!
H. A.
Interesting place, plenty to look at. Pretty garden. Cafe was closed which was a shame as had to leave bit early to find somewhere to eat!
J. K.
Pleasant little cottage with history. Set out as a museum rather than how he lived in it. Given there's coach parking this place could get busy. We visited on a warm spring afternoon and very nice. Worth it for members in the area
N. H.
A lovely few hours spent at this NT property. Not very big, but full of useful information and the volunteers were spot-on, as usual. Well worth a visit, especially if you want to know a bit more about Elgar.
T. D.
Very interesting. We started with a talk given by one of the volunteers. Then we walked to The Firs. Beautiful house and gardens. Not really for small children.
Toilets were clean and tidy. The cafe wasn't open.
P. D.
Lovely preserved cottage with nice cottage gardens. Tea room serves great cake.
J. B.
Lovely example of a country garden and the home of Elgar and his family. The little home is packed with interesting memorabilia describing the life of this extraordinary and talented man who is probably one of the most important composers of 20th century. There's a film and very pleasant cafe, and the place is dog friendly except the house itself.
V. M.
Had a super time during our visit today. The talk given by Richard was excellent, just the right amount of information which sparked our interest and made us want to find out more. The cottage and its garden were excellent as was the guide there who was able to answer our questions about Elgars life and family.
E. M.
What a lovely place. Small but very interesting. The staff, especially, made the experience wonderful....from the lady on the Reception Desk to the lovely gent in the house, full of interesting facts and enthusiasm.
P. T.
Great if you are into Elgar! Seriously, I found it interesting, and learnt things I didn't know about Elgar while I was there. A modest abode, filled with Elgariana! His violin, anyone? Bizarrely, Elgar's daughter was reputed to live round the corner from me in Bristol, and as she died in Bristol that may be true. I never bumped into her in the Shakespeare on the corner.
L. C.
Really good day out for National Trust property. Love that it’s so dog friendly too. Been meaning to visit for years as it’s local to me and have finally managed it. Lots of history to take in with very knowledgeable guides. Took it in turns to view the cottage as dogs weren’t allowed in there. Had a large tea & scones with jam and clotted cream (you gotta, haven’t you?) in the cafe afters. Walked it all off in the miles of fields behind the property. You can see why Sir Edward Elgar loved it here.
N. Q.
Fascinating, informative and moving, this is a must for anyone that loves Elgar's music.
C. E.
The Firs Elgar's Birthplace is well worth visiting, it is a museum as well as the house he was born in. The guide who greets you at the door of Elgar's house is very friendly and informative. He gives you an over view of the life of Elgar and then you look round the cottage on your own, as everything is well labelled. There is a garden behind the cottage with a statue of Elgar sitting on a bench, overlooking the Malvern Hills. There is a very nice restaurant there where you can get drinks, lite meals and cakes. We really enjoyed looking around the cottage and garden then having a drink and cake in the restaurant.
P. G.
Elgar's Birthplace near Worcester is a quite small cottage with a very modern visitor's centre run by the National Trust. Has a sound garden with lots of garden games and wooden and metal instruments for children to play. Visitor's Centre has a good tea room with internal and outside seating. It is still being added to as NT only acquired the property late 2017. A very pleasant way to spend a morning or afternoon. Cottage itself is rather cramped inside so a timed ticket may be required. The displays will get better over time. This was the house that Elgar wanted preserved over all the others that he lived in despite the fact that he was only here 2 years. Exhibition and replica study in the centre round off the visit. Accessible centre and gardens. Cottage not wheelchair friendly and narrow stairs to top floor.
B. P.
This was a really interesting visit, lots of information about Elgar, museum with music and artefacts, a lovely garden full of flowers and a most interesting house. We'll worth a visit
N. T.
The film is worth watching and I was able to catch a short talk. The staff were friendly and helpful. It was a very informative visit
T. B.
Very small place. Tickets only £4 per adult. Spend a hour here maybe 2.
They do shows every so often so look them up before going.
They did lots for the kids but in the outside space so go on a nice day!
M. M.
Excellent place to visit to learn about Elgar's life. Starting at the Visitor Centre you can watch a short Video that gives you a brief insight into his life. The displays at this centre have some of his original hand written music scores and writing instruments.
After the Visitors Center, go to the small cottage where he was born. You receive an introductory talk in the first room and can then explore the other rooms. The cottage also has a small garden with a statue of Elgar sitting on a bench looking towards his beloved Malvern Hills.
Plenty of parking at the Centre as well as toilets and a small Caffè.
P. U.
The Firs is run by the National Trust. This place is really good fun and very child friendly. There are musical instruments (metal bars with drum sticks) for them to play with. My kids loved these. The house is great, very small but so much there. The guides are really helpful and knowledgeable. There is a shop here with lots (as you would expect) of musical gift items. The summer house was really nice and I loved the sculpture of Elgar on the bench at the bottom of the garden looking out in the direction of the mendips (they have even cut the hedge a little so he can see out ~ really liked that touch 😁) see pictures. I will go back here and would recommend.
R. B.
A really quiet and unimposing place to find out about one of England's finest composers. The cottage where he was born is separate from the main visitor centre and houses most of the collection of his items on display. The visitor centre itself contains more things to look at and a myriad of information to read and watch. The day we visited there was also a free lunchtime cello recital that was a nice (and unexpected) addition. The day was finished off with a visit to their welcoming cafe for a drink and a sit down.
B. W.
We had a lovely half day at Elgar's birthplace. Very well thought through museum in a few different sections. This is in both the modern part of the site as well as in the old cottage. Beautiful, if small(ish) cottage garden. There is a tea room and a small 2nd hand bookshop.
G. J.
This place completely exceeded our expectations.
From the ride on the Penny Farthing bicycle to playing on Elgar's piano.
The afternoon was Great.
Plenty to see to improve your knowledge of one of this country's greatest composers.
All of the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Cafe was good.
Definitely will come back.
Highly recommended.
T. D.
Although small by usual NT buildings the Firs is definitely worth a visit, especially if you are interested in Elgar's life and musical legacy. An interesting visitor centre containing many artifacts as well as the small cottage and garden where Elgar was born and lived until the age of two. A tea room is to be added in March 2022 but now only has toilets.
S. Y.
Such a romantic place and beautifully looked after by the National Trust. Elgar’s romantic influences are so apparent from such a loving home. Not a very big place but has a lovely coffee shop in the courtyard. Dog friendly too!
V. B.
Fabulous gem in the Worcestershire countryside. If you like English classical music this is a must. Lovely views of the Malvern Hills from the lower garden where a delightful sculpture of Elgar sits.
C. R.
Staff are lovely and knowledgeable and will encourage your children to play on the piano (there is just one you're allowed to play, so steer them away from the other ones).
The music garden is small but will probably keep you entertained for longer than you expect.
Even if you're not crazy about Elgar there is probably something here to interest you, but bear in mind it isn't a huge property.
When we went the cafe was only serving drinks and cake, so check if they"re offering lunch before you go. They also weren't taking cash, but who carries actual money these days? That is so pre-covid.
L. B.
The Firs: Birthplace of Sir Edward Elgar in Lower Broadheath, Worcestershire, England is a museum dedicated to the English composer Edward Elgar. On 1 September 2017 the museum reopened under National Trust stewardship.[1] Elgar was born here on 2 June 1857, and lived here until his family moved to Worcester two years later.[2] The museum comprises the Birthplace Cottage and its garden, and the modern Elgar Centre, opened in 2000, which houses further exhibitions and a function room.
A. A.
The National Trust have made a wonderful job of making this lovely little house more accessible to a wider audience. Good visitor centre and cafe too.
C. H. c.
A very interesting & informative visit to Edward Elgar's cottage with several other rooms in an adjacent building including reception, cinema, Elgar's study, cafe & bookshop giving much detail of the composer's life
G. W.
All the staff were excellent. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Coffee and cake was very good. Well worth a visit. Learnt a lot about Elgar.
J. D.
Small museum inside the house itself dedicated to Elgar and his music located in a rural area. There is also a museum in the visitor centre with more of Elgars history. Host excellent musical events from time to time, which are worth a trip if you have the chance.
F. W.
Enjoyed the experience. Attended a free,, excellent, cello concert in the visitor centre close by prior to visiting the birthplace cottage. Well worth a visit if you have an appreciation of the composer and his music.
l. j.
Very interesting place & lovely house & garden. Me & mom laughed as the gardener was a sleep in the garden & snoring 😁
H. R.
Very interesting! Loved all the memorabilia!
P. K.
Amazing place to learn about such an iconic composer.
J. W.
Delightful find of Elgar's birth place. NT needs to nurture and keep this property for prosperity. Enjoyed learning more about this composer
E. B.
Interesting place to visit where Sir Edward Elgar was born. Cottage and garden. Plus visitor centre. With links to Worcester and Birmingham.
A. H.
Small but very interesting lovely garden don't forget to go right down the path to meet Elgar himself
M. M.
Interesting place to visit. Small compared to others. Had only just opened the weekend we went so access was quick, no booking necessary, however might need to book as the weeks get busier.
R. T.
Great place to visit, very friendly and knowledgeable staff plus a good coffee shop, everything you need !
A. M.
Very good museum adjacent to cottage. Knowledgeable volunteers help the experience.
C. M.
Enjoyable hour spent. The Firs is the birth place of Elgar small and compact
A. C.
A gem
t. r.
A small but perfectly formed property, lots of interesting displays and a very good talk.
R. P.
Small but interesting cottage that is a must if you enjoy the great man's music.
D. T.
Absolute Gem. From humble beginnings to World fame. Learn all about Edgar's background and his early days. Lovely visitors centre full of history relating to Elgar and then visit the family cottage. We were last here 3 years ago but were unable to view the cottage as it had been broken into the previous night so as we were in the area visited and this time viewed the cottage. You don't have to be a music lover but you will feel invoice with so much of his compositions will be recognisable.
S. S.
Very enjoyable only a small area and cottage picnic area and village walk if wanted.
d. l.
A teeny tiny little home with a cute garden and nice views, backed up by a purpose built support build where the staff were very knowledgable and friendly even over half term when they were inundated with children.
N. H.
Very interesting and volunteer's very informative with plenty of enthusiasm.
p. R.
It was good to go back in time to visit Elgars history and birth place
N. B.
A most enjoyable and informative experience. There is a visitor information centre dedicated to his life and then the cottage where he spent his early life. The cottage garden is delightful and has views across to the Malvern Hills.
There isn't a tea room which is a shame but there is a picnic area adjacent to the car park. If you want any refreshments I can recommend Laylocks garden centre about 1 mile down the A44 heading away from Worcester.
T.
Very small but perfectly formed NT property. Lots of paraphernalia for Elgar fans!!!
C. F.
Friendly warm welcome and knowledgeable volunteers. Interesting talk. Lovely cup of coffee and cake. Beautiful location.
S. A.
Fantastic museum and beautiful gardens in a stunning location. Find out about the man behind the music not only a great composer but a loving father and devoted husband - and keen cyclist - with a keen sense of humour.
E. B.
If you love Elgar and his music you must visit The Firs.
j. n.
Friendly staff, good visitor centre & house/museum.
N. P.
Interesting small museum, shop & café. Beautiful garden & birthplace cottage.
L. R.
A wonderful place, enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff who cater for music lovers young and old. Dietary requirements are catered for in the cafe and there are even plants for sale from the garden. Parking is free and is surrounded by a marvellous daisy meadow seating area with boxes of toys dotted around for children to explore. This was our second visit but will not be our last. Many thanks to Jane for making us so welcome.
l. p.
Not very big but worth a look to pass a couple of hours
P. C.
A very informative venue detailing Elgar's life and his music. Perhaps the most enchanting part is his cottage garden which is wonderfully maintained. A real delight.
S. B.
A lovely visit. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The gardens are small but beautifully kept; very much a cottage garden, very natural. By the carpark is a lovely area to sit or walk through to enjoy the surrounding countryside.
The house is small but full of interesting artefacts and fascinating information about Elgar's life. There is a really good film to watch before you visit the exhibition and house. Definitely recommend.
M. m.
This is a recent acquisition by the trust on a short term lease. They have really smartened it up with excellent visitor reception areas. The introductory video is particularly well produced. The cottage itself still sits in its original location and has not been spoiled by the updated facilities. It is a quiet location in a tranquil surroundings. Well worth a visit. The reception staff and room guides very knowledgeable.
B. S.
Great visitor place, needs support to maintain its future
R. T.
This was my first visit to Elgar's birthplace. The impressive visitor centre contains exhibitions that are very informative and interesting. There is also a very nice and well furnished tea room and outside eating area. The Cottage has been furnished with furniture of the period and Elgar's historical items and memorabilia. Outside the gardens are very pleasant. I found this visit fascinating and I learnt a tremendous amount about arguably our premier classical composer. There are informative and welcoming guides at hand to provide additional information. This property is well worth a visit.
J. W.
Visited about ten years ago when it was little more than a dusty detached house. Visited this week - what a change! Lovely Visitors centre. Sat and listened to a quartet playing a varied program of music. Informative displays and beautiful cottage garden. We'll done National Trust!
R. H.
National Trust. From car park on site, first visit reception building, consisting of pay desk, museum, film, picture gallery (also containing a couple of Elgar's pianos), shop and cafe. Then short walk to cottage for guided tour (tours are timed so you are given ticket when you check-in). Very small cottage but well laid out with cards explaining rooms and exhibits.
Statue of seated Elgar in cottage garden looking out to Malvern hills.
Taken our 8 year old granddaughter several times and she loves it.
P. W.
Fantastic little house definitely worth the visit
A. C.
Excellent exhibitions in the visitor centre and cottage, wonderful garden and be sure to sit next to Sir Edward on his bench to enjoy his view of the Malvern Hills.
S. W.
Small national trust but very good to go round. Welcome centre with video and music rooms with the house and gardens behind. Quite tight stairs in the cottage but take easy and ok to navigate.
S. P.
Beautiful grounds, going back to see the house 🏡
D. T.
Beautiful presentation of the life of Elgar. Knowledgeable staff that are very helpful & freindly. Small site so visit will be only a couple of hours at most. Well stocked cafe for all tastes.
If driving in be aware as this is a residential area to follow brown signage especially the final sign for the turn in that states 'The Fir' as this is the name of the birth home. Free parking.
M. D.
If you're a national trust member or have an interest in music a good place to pop on the visit list. Very peaceful location and usual excellent NT cafe. Some interesting Elgar history and the chance to play on a piano owned by Elgar.
Probably not much here for the expense if your not NT though....
K. F.
amazing place Richard gave us a 20 minutes of information about Edward Elgar .....highly recommended
T. B.
Lovely place. Good visitors centre. Steep steps to first floor in cottage, but otherwise access very good indoors and out. Not too large a site so easy to see everything. Staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Nice cafe.
T. G. N.
An interesting in site into Sir Edward Elgars early life .
B. S.
I was surprised to learn that The Firs is only under licence to the National Trust and hope that this treasure does eventually come permanently under NT protection
The cottage is delightful and contains interesting memorabilia and documents covering the greater part of Elgar's life and works. There are the usual NT trinkets and cafe and a very small bookshop stocked from the pre NT days as a museum. Managed to spend £26 without the teashop, so good stuff. Thanks to the knowledgeable gentleman who welcomed us to the cottage. Recommended.
A. T.
Fascinating information center focusing on Elgar's music, with introductory movie outlining his life, along with a recreation of his study and a central exhibit charting his musical career. A small restaurant, restrooms and gift shop accompany the hub of the museum, and ample parking is available. Outside there is a pleasant garden which gives access to the house where Elgar was born. The exhibits inside focus more on Elgar's personal life, and the house is quite small and can become busy, so access is permitted at five minute intervals. Interactive musical activities aimed at children can be found in the garden, along with excellent views to the Malvern Hills. For those interested in music, a must see.
G. B.
Set right underneath the northern end of the Malvern Hills, what must be one of the smallest National Trust properties is also a national treasure in its own right. The newly built Visitor Centre is full of interesting exhibition areas with the life of Elgar and his music explained in simple terms, but with passion. In the grounds there are hands-on musical instruments on which youngsters can produce their own music. The coffee shop is not huge but serves tasty treats.
S. G.
A must visit for fans of the Malvern Hills and those who where born, lived and explored the country side, life within Worcester. A fan of his music to a small degree, but really a visit out of the house to somewhere more interesting, you can always picture thing better with a place visited.
K. C.
Had a Mothers Day cream tea which was a lovely treat. Big pots of tea, lots of sandwiches and probably the best crumbly melt-in-your-mouth scones I've ever had. The Firs, now run by National Trust, is a really interesting place to find out more about Edward Elgar and the cottage where he spent some of his childhood is small but is a fascinating museum of his life and works. Great rural location with view out to Malvern hills. The staff were enthusiastic and insightful which made the visit even better. I just wished i could have bought some of Elgars music but the shop had a limited selection. Definitely recommend a visit. We will go again and do the short walk in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside recommended on a leaflet.
L. P.
Close to Worcester and easy to access by car, but not sure about public transport. Lovely cottage with cottage garden and views from the grounds over the fields. Visitor Centre had a talk that was starting as we arrived. Most people were on a tour of the Elgar Route. We weren't, but enjoyed the talk with PPT slides as this gave us a better insight. It was on our visit to a NT place the following day (Hanbury) where we found out about the young person's NT membership. As my German visitor was with us for a couple of weeks, we'd have saved money if we'd known about earlier. We still made the most of the membership in the following days.
G. M.
I really enjoyed the exhibitions in the main building before going into the cottage where Elgar was born. The guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the family and the details of how the building became part of the National Trust. You need to see the statue of Elgar on the bench in the garden.
K. H.
Very interesting!
National Trust have done well here.
Nice for children too.
Timed tickets for enrance to his house.
Lovely statue of Elgar in garden sitting gazing at his belo ed Malvern Hills.
Love this place in Lower Broadheath.
Nice small cafe with usual teas and coffes and of course cake.also light lunches.
P. F.
A fascinating tribute to one of the country's most famous composers. The modern visitor centre includes a recreation of Elgar's study plus the opportunity to watch a film about the man and his life. The cottage itself includes books owned by Elgar plus other interesting items. Now owned by National Trust, it will be worth revisiting to see how the museum develops.
C. A.
Brilliant place. Very informative staff. Small house with small garden, very very interesting. We'll worth a visit.
K. G.
Nice day out, 2 mile walk ( not recommended on any wheels)
Parking, cafe, friendly staff, History music and country views.
K. P.
Plenty of memorabilia for Elgar fans. An excellent audio/visual film describing the life of Elgar. Beautiful surroundings and gardens.
A. P.
First visit to this charming museum which has some lovely items that belonged to this brilliant composer. The house of his birth could not be more picturesque and the garden (in flaming June ) was pretty as a picture...a quintessential English Cottage scene.
J. S.
The disabled loo off the entrance hall wouldn't flush. The toilet roll wouldn't move so the user had to fight to get some very poor quality paper. Not good for a disabled person with very arthritic hands. Some improvements so nice our last visit many years ago, pre the NT takeover but has lost some authenticity or 'charm'.
A. B.
This is a must for an Elgar fan like myself. However I do feel the National Trust need to employ more effort and knowledge regarding the composer, his music and musical contribution . Sadly there's more National Trust tea towels and paraphernalia than there is to do with Elgar. I do feel they need to look for outside help with this as this particular building and it's associated history seems a little outside of their remit.
C. L.
Great history lesson. Loved it 😁
W. B.
Lovely cottage with fascinating visitors’ centre describing the life of Elgar, the country's most influential composer of the early 20th century. Excellent cafe with very chirpy staff. Recommend the shortbread. Good gluten free options.
m. e.
Very interesting and the man who did the talk great
C. G.
Wonderful spot with such significance for local history. Beautiful garden with some of the prettiest roses. Chap in the cottage was very knowledgeable and happy to share what he knew.
S. E.
Really brilliant place to visit we found something for everyone. Experiments for the children, video and a study full of interesting artifacts. Sadly the cafe was a let down with very little choice so take your own packed lunch.
S. G.
Now being taken care of by the National Trust. The house is small along with the museum but it is a very interesting tribute to Elgar in a beautiful setting. The staff were very friendly and informative.
a. t.
Lovely to see how this museum has changed since being taken over by the National Trust, albeit temporarily. We like the work that has been done to restore the main house, but more can still be done to make the displays more attractive and appealing to the younger generation. We did miss the interactive displays that used to be in the foyer, where people could listen to Elgars music and the background behind each piece of work. It is a great shame that the NT could not work around this as it helped people learn more about how Elgars ideas materialised into his great works. We had a lovely added bonus of a beautiful cello recital - perfect for an autumn day.
L. J.
Gorgeous little gem. Perfect for little ones with the sound garden. So glad we stumbled across this on our way home from holiday :-)
T. K. T. B. J.
Not much there to be honest, and Elgar barely lived there!
Very little for the kids to do.
They found a gate 'from the last century' in some undergrowth, so it's been given an information sign. It's a gate. You see plenty of them around. It's not a museum exhibit...
A. A.
Lovely little place to visit. Friendly staff and very knowledgeable.
C. M.
Information well laid out and volunteers helpful
W. R.
Just visited to become joint members of the National Trust. Staff extremely helpful and great knowledge, and their coffee shop & restaurant looks fab. Looking forward to many trips out in the future.
A. J.
The introduction film is very interesting. The cottage though small is a look back to Elgar's early life. The tearoom is excellent and all the staff are enthusiastic and helpful.
P. C.
Interesting cottage, new exhibition space next to it tells story of Elgars life. Small performance space for music events, recreation of his study, lovely cottage garden and of course National Trust cake in the cafe
T. D.
Nice place to visit even if you are not a music fan. However if you are, there is plenty of information on Elgar in the museum and displays. Garden is quaint. Good tearooms attached.
L. g.
Very nice place. Fantastic cottage and garden. Friendly staff.
L. E.
This is one of the best NT houses. Cosy, atmospheric and charming. With a cello recital thrown in!! Great staff with a genuine love of the place.
É. P.
I prefer (listening, singing, performing the ouvre of Bartók, Ligeti, Liszt, Kodály etc), but this is a nice place, and I am sure, Elgar was a great man and composer. Will get to know his pieces as well.
P. H.
Very pleasant visit during awful weather. Including some interesting anecdotes from Andrew in the cottage.
R. P.
I have to say this national trust centre was well laid out with lots to read and look at, the staff were all helpful making us feel welcome the kids enjoyed the play area and we found the house quite exciting (not so much the kids but both being under 7 playing was more on their minds) lovley place to also go to have a drink and take time to relax.
R. B.
Very informative volunteers, good exhibition covering Elgar's life. Cottage has several original artefacts and possessions. Lovely garden
T.
First time visiting and will definitely go again! Beautiful gardens, interesting history about a phenomenal person, and brilliantly insightful staff!
k. S.
lovely little place with lovely staff. Planned on a quick visit as it's only small but there was a guy outside giving rides for old bikes and had a great time.
R. R.
Nice place, one of the smaller national trust sites. Cafe is a little on the disappointing side with the lack of things that can be served compared to the other ones in the area
S. g.
Small but pretty home thats full of things from Elgars early life. Great visitor centre. Not very large so only allow yourself an hour and then only if Elgar is your thing
G. B.
Full of Elgar memorabilia, the story of this great composers life is presented in just enough detail to keep the attention. There's even an original Elgar piano which can be played (supervision required!).
