Absolutely brilliant! The staff were really friendly and helpful and the game (Dark Arts) was well thought through even down to supplying capes for the experience. There is some climbing on hands and knees and rummaging around in semi darkness, but if you want to have a fun experience that makes you feel a kid again then definitely go here. Thank you for a great hour of fun!!

Excellent themed rooms and really friendly, enthusiastic staff. We originally booked the escape rooms for March 2020, but for obvious reasons we had to keep rearranging. Mindlock were excellent throughout, remaining incredibly flexible, communicating well, and helpfully providing different options for our group. We did the V90 and Dark Arts rooms, and both were great with plenty of surprises you don't get at every escape room.

We had so much fun in this escape room! Previously we've only been to one place (in Lincoln) but we love doing them so of course had to check out this one while in York. First the waiting room is great, super comfortable sofas to chill in which gave us a well needed rest after spending the day walking around. The two members of staff we interacted with were both wonderful (a guy with dreads and a girl from the south) they were friendly and engaging and made the start and end of our time there run smooth. We decided to go for the Viking inspired room because we went to Jorvik earlier in the day so we made it a theme! The room was our first 5 stars, the hardest rated 😱 There were loads of fun things, some we hadn't seen in other rooms (not that were pros, we've only done a handful!) And although it was frustrating at times, we had an amazing time and managed to crack it with 22 seconds to spare! We'll definitely be returning next time we're in York to give the other rooms a go!

We went here for a hen do and had a great time. Phoebe was amazing and made us feel totally welcome. They’d accidentally double booked us and so our time was slightly delayed- so they sent some money to Tomahawk where we had our meal after. We only found out when we got there. So nice of them. Such a good afternoon.

Just finished the 'Dark Arts' room and we loved it. It was only my second escape room ever and my partner's first and it was great. Sam.and Briony were fantastic. I'd definitely recommend Mindlock. The only reason we didn't do another is that they were fully booked!

Played our 25th room here this weekend and had a brilliant time. Staff were really welcoming and enthusiastic and the room, Viking Valhalla, was great! Good variety of puzzles, theming was excellent (especially the throne room) and particularly enjoyed the audio and interaction. Also the nicest escape room venues we’ve been to with a bright big reception space and everything was spotless. By far the best escape game venue in York and we’ll be sure to visit again next trip. A big group of us came to play one of the escape rooms on the 7th of May for a hen do. Our host Phoebe was brilliant and hilarious. She looked after all of us whilst making it a fun experience for everyone. We escaped the Cluedo room and had a blast doing it, it was the perfect amount of difficulty! Can’t recommend this escape room enough! Ps give Phoebe a raise as she made our visit 5 stars! Thanks so much ⭐️

Really enjoyed my time here - I will be back to try the other games! Unfortunately for my team ( my friend and I ) we didn't make it to the end! We were so close, but going as a pair made it even harder than if we were to go in 3+ groups. (Be warned :p) The game we chose was V90 - virology lab, it was really fun, challenging and I had a buzzing time.

We did the Valhalla escape room during our trip to York. The puzzles were fun and challenging, we didn't escape but we had a blast anyway! Heard the Valhalla room is being updated at some point, might do it again in October. The staff were great they couldn't do enough for you, would absolutely go to Mindlock again.

We had a brilliant time here! The staff were really friendly and explained everything well. We had the choice if whether or not we wanted any hints throughout the game. The game itself was just the right level of difficulty and really fun. We did the Dark Arts room and made it out with 3 minutes to spare! It was great for Harry Potter fans. An altogether fun an enjoyable time and we will definitely go back to chance our arm in a different room

We booked this as a work trip and every single person loved them. I personally did the V90 escape room, it was challenging but we managed to escape with over 10 mins left! I would definitely recommend Mindlock Escape Games to anyone.

We did the cluedo escape room, the puzzles inside were great and our host gave us some helpful hints! My only minor fault was that I didn’t feel the room was especially well themed, however the clues and puzzles within really brought the game to life! We will definitely be back to try a different room at mindlock!

Visited this place whilst having a little break in York with the other half. Having never done an escape room before I was a little sceptical but omg it’s such fun and so glad we decided to give it a go and our host Phoebe was just brilliant ! We decided to do the dark arts rooms which with not knowing what to expect it was set out superbly. Overall I would recommend mindlock to anyone it was great. Shoutout to the other lady who was there also (sorry forgot your name) for the subtle little clues on trying to help us escape 😂🤦‍♂️

We visited Mindlock over the last weekend as part of my stag do. We were a group of 11 who completed the Viking Rooms concurrently in a race. I've done a fair few room escapes in my time, although the rest of my group were new to the activity and a great time was had by all. The room was challenging both for myself and everyone else and the puzzles were highly original (even for a seasoned escaper). The staff were lovely and attentive and I wouldn't hesitate to visit here again when I return to York.

We visited during a recent staycation to York and completed the Valhalla room rated a 4 difficulty. Staff were very friendly. Room was a little underwhelming compared to other themed rooms we have played as was a simple white room with a few plastic plants dotted around, didn't feel overly themed in presentation but this might have been simplified since Covid perhaps? The tasks and puzzles were themed and were good and the overall linkage was really good and very enjoyable. If you like logic and maths then this is the room for you.

Brilliant fun and quite a nice challenge. Didn't quite make it out (super close though!) but the viking themed room was greatly enjoyable and the tasks fair with generous hints - not too generous, just enough to keep us going. I definitely recommend this, ideally for parties of 3 to 6

The staff here are so energetic and welcoming. They are extremely informative when explaining the things that you need to do and they're good at staying in character when giving you the backstory of the room you will be entering and attempting to complete. The rooms are clean and nicely laid out. The puzzles are much more challenging than I had originally thought but they are so well thought out and I loved the story behind them. The puzzles are quite fun to solve as well and I definitely recommend coming here with at least a couple people. Me and my girlfriend only just managed to escape in time. Great place, great staff, great times!

We went for a hen do and did the viking themed room as a party of 6 - signing in was simple, the dude who gave us our induction talk was great and helped appropriately with tips when he saw us floundering or debate-locked a few times. The puzzles weren't too easy nor too hard (I'm terrible at maths but others in our party had that skill covered), the room was clean and light with no actual physical barriers keeping us in - that was a potential issue for one person with mild claustrophobia... (and for those who needed the loo haha). I'd definitely recommend the experience to anyone who can keep an even temper under pressure!

This was my first time visiting an escape room and we booked to do the Viking Valhalla game! It was a lot of fun and and I really was not expecting it to be as challenging as it was! Thankfully we were given A LOT of hints throughout as we were not doing very well at all...and still didn't make it out in time! Honestly, my previous experiences with escape rooms had me convinced they just werent my thing, but Mindlock was so good we went back a second day just to try another room! The effects, degree of difficulty, well constructed clues, everything is literally perfect! Can personally recommend the Dark Magic room and the V90 room. Will definitely be trying any I've missed on the next visit to York!

This was the first time me and my sister have been out some where since lock down and we chose an amazing place to go. Such friendly staff, following the new guidelines so well to make us feel comfortable while maintaining a fun atmosphere for us to enjoy out experience. We used the cluedo room which is now my favourite escape room I have done so far, quite tricky at times but managed to escape with just over 2 minutes to spare. Wonderful experience. Fantastic to learn about our military history. Fairly cheap for a museum. Interesting gift shop with detailed and organised exhibits. Would recommend. Ticket is valid for 12 months so you can return at any time for free.

Really lovely and welcoming staff who I had a nice chat with! However I can't say this was the best room I've done if I'm honest. We did Valhalla and the decor wasnt great, I was expecting it to look all viking-y but the first room more resembled an ikea showroom. We're not sure if either some puzzles weren't working, or the hosts were a little slow to react. There was a switch that we unlocked that wasnt working which we flicked several times to no avail, then got a clue to tell us to flick it as "it's not a light switch", and when we arranged the boats nothing happened either for a good minute or so. Good puzzles and a lot of maths involved which I enjoyed, but it was a little disappointing overall.

EXCELLENT Escape Rooms!! We did Dark Arts and it had the perfect combo of logic and more physical puzzles, and there was more than one section of the room too, secret doors galore! Staff were super friendly too, can't wait to come again.
