The Beginners DJ course was the best thing I’ve done this year. I have always wanted to learn how to mix but self doubt and anxiety put me off. Learning with Marc was fantastic, he put me at ease right away and it felt like I was learning from a good mate instead of a teacher. We went at my own pace and after the first session I was totally hooked and eventually ended up buying my own DDJ to practice at home. Last weekend I ‘debuted’ in front of my DJ mates and they were so impressed with my skills. I can’t thank Marc and DJ Gym enough for the brilliant experience!

I have recently started with DJ Gym on their production courses using Ableton. I have been learning with Marc Spence, who is an absolute oracle! The lessons are clear, concise and fun. Marc has a unique way of captivating you and explaining the reasoning behind certain techniques that you use. I’ve sat for hours and hours watching people engineer music and always come away lost, however; in the short time I have been studying with Marc at DJ Gym I have come away feeling positive and enthused. The feeling of excitement for the next session is something you need to feel as a student, and DJ Gym deliver this. Simply superb - teacher Marc Spence is technically gifted and able to pass on his knowledge in an encouraging, infectiously enthusiastic way. I'm now half way through my second course at DJ Gym and am able to tailor the sessions to include both vinyl and CDJs as well as use of the effects on the mixer. Lessons are always very practical with lots of time on the equipment and the immediate one-to-one feedback makes progress rapid. I rarely recommend services but this diverse, progressive business is one in which I have no hesitation in endorsing. Get involved.

Marc is all a great tutor should be - relaxed, down to Earth, and able to pass on a wealth of knowledge and experience to allow you to learn hands on and come away feeling accomplished and better than when you walked in. Loved that Marc encouraged me to keep practicing my technique in transitions, pointing out how I could refine them and that through consistently practicing that technique I would steadily improve. Stop thinking about it, and just do it, you will not be disappointed!

I can’t recommended DJ Gym enough, I’ve learnt so much from the 1-1 sessions with Marc Spence. Marc is a very patient and clear tutor, and he is so enthusiastic and encouraging to everyone of all ages and abilities. With him I’ve progressed in mixing various genres, including Reggae, Hip Hop and Grime. And I have since played gigs at Birmingham Pride, various bars in Birmingham and Moseley, private events, and I play regularly at Digbeth Dining Club. Once you have graduated you still have the support of Buster and the Alumni group, of which I have found everyone to be very friendly and helpful. Thank you DJ Gym!

The music production lessons I took at the DJ Gym were superb! The tutor, Marc Spence is not only a master of his craft but also a great teacher; in no time at all, I was laying down drum tracks, creating bass lines using MIDI (something I’d never got my head round before) and EQing what was a total dark art before. I’ve been doing production lessons on and off with Marc since 2018 and all I can say is the progress I’ve made in that time is next to none. He easily communicates every little tip and trick to make your records sound radio ready! He was the one who taught me to use logic in the first place, now he’s showing me how to cap off and get your music how you want.
