Reviews of Edge Guitar Services

My Telecaster Custom Deluxe has been badly neglected over the years, a few hours in Eltham's care and it's now playing beautifully again, basically just like brand new. Will definitely be taking more of my gear to Edge Guitar Services in future.

I've had a couple of guitars set up by Eltham and he's done a brilliant job on both. Most recently a Les Paul which has come back with the action set, intonation issues sorted, new tuners installed and pickups correctly positioned. It now plays and sounds like it was meant to. His knowledge and experience is incredible, the work is top quality and the prices are fair - plus he's a great guy. 100% recommended.

I've been taking my guitars to Eltham since 1992. I recently collected a scarce Hutchins, Guild D55, Guild M20 and a very tricky Telecaster B Bender that needed a very intricate repair, and they're all absolutely perfect.
I've left a Les Paul (for his well regarded electrical upgrade) and a Telecaster safe in the knowledge, they'll come back and play remarkably.
From fixing snapped headstocks to the the tiniest of cosmetic attention, my clients and I have never gone anywhere else.
He also looks after the entire SFA collection. I wouldn't go anywhere else in the U.K. and haven't done for almost 30 years.

My experience with Eltham was exceptional. He shows genuine interest, with a kind treatment and exceptional results.
I had a Stratocaster with issues on tuning, elements on the bridge and also a serious bend on the neck. He not only fixed all the problems but also made my guitar look like brand new.
I've definitely found the right person to trust my guitar.

My first experience with Eltham at Edge Guitar Services was outstanding! Eltham’s level of honesty, service, and skill are exemplary. I took my Vintera 50s Strat and a Tele to be diagnosed, as I had been experiencing many issues with my guitars. Eltham has a very friendly and understanding personality. He quickly, zeroed in on exactly what needed attention and thoroughly answered all questions. Pricing was very fair and reasonable. Upon picking up my guitar, I was stunned by the transformation. I am pleased to say that my guitar has never played or sounded better. It was spot-on first play. Eltham has a real gift and he maintains genuine concern for your instrument, which brilliantly shows in his work. I highly recommend Edge Guitar Services.

Eltham Jones is a remarkable man with an extraordinary knowledge and flair for restoring stringed instruments. To the delight of my family, my great aunt's flat backed mandolin, over 120 years old, can now be played and treasured rather than gathering dust. His prices are incredibly reasonable for someone with such expertise and passion for the work he does. Naturally his services are in demand, so be prepared for a wait, but I doubt if you could find anyone better.

Absolutely brilliant work, thanks Eltham! My epiphone Dot needed a little fret work and a good set up, I also got the nut replaced while it was there. This guitar has never played/sounded so good. Cannot recommend enough!

Eltham has been tech-ing my guitars for a few years now and he always does a good job. Mostly it's been setting up new guitars and servicing a couple of older ones. He's very good at working out what I want and what the guitars need, his advice always makes sense and his prices are very fair. He's not in Bristol every day but I arrange things with him a little in advance and it's no problem at all - he's very prompt and reliable.

I've had some problems with buzzing on my bass, as well as several set-up issues - Eltham solved these on the spot, to a high level of satisfaction and at a very reasonable price. In short, I would highly recommend his services and if I find myself in Bristol again, I know where I will have my set-ups done!

Run by Eltham Jones, Edge Guitar Services is the place I go to and the place I recommend to my friends for their guitar modification and repair work. Eltham is a man who knows better than nearly everyone else in the industry and his knowledge will often end up saving you money. Where other repair centres might exacerbate the problem to encourage you to spend more, Edge Guitar Services often loses out on money by being as honest about the situation as possible, removing the need for unnecessary modifications.
I have been visiting Eltham fairly frequently for repairs for a couple of years now and not only do his reasonable prices still pleasantly surprise me, the quality of his work and his dedication mean that for repairs I will likely not visit anyone else.
Great guy, great work, great prices.

Eltham is a fantastic Luthier. Brought him my Les Paul at quite late notice and he managed to get it back to me the same day sounding better than ever. Incredibly professional, he was almost able to diagnose the issues before it was out of the case. I would highly recommend you ignore any of the negative reviews below because Eltham is hands down one of the best.

A great customer experience when getting the action adjusted on my guitar. Eltham was very helpful and managed to fit me in at short notice, even during the busy Christmas period. He explained in simple terms what he needed to do and I am very satisfied with the result - it feels like playing a new guitar!
Thanks Eltham - I will be recommending you to others!

I have takes a number of guitars and bass guitars to Eltham over the last 5 years. He's very experienced, knowledgeable and honest, which translates into great value for money. My most recent experience was when I took my "new" guitar to his workshop as I wanted it to play the same as my "old" guitar. Now they play identically.
I have total confidence in his ability

Had my guitar set up by Eltham last week and the difference in feel and ease of playing is night and day - incredible and at a very reasonable price. Great service from a lovely gentleman, I would highly recommend his services to anyone.

I would highly recommend Eltham. He did an excellent job helped me out of an awkward touring situation when I was in the area, turning around an intensive amount of work really efficiently. The guitar is playing great, really thorough job. It’s always great to take guitars to luthiers who are very knowledgable and technical but also clear and direct, and willing to find the correct solution for the context rather than just giving out indiscriminate default fixes, Eltham is one of those guys!

I'm very very happy with the work that Eltham did on my guitar. He has exactly the kind of talent, skill, experience and attention to detail you want in a guitar tech.

In my guitar collection I have a much loved Epiphone FT-160N 'Texan 12', circa 1973. Several years ago it became unplayable due to neck warp, later diagnosed as a broken truss rod. The prognosis appeared terminal, but ever the optimist, I asked EGS for a second opinion.
I won't go into the many trials, complications and technicalities that have beset this project, other than to say (as unlikely as it seems) my old guitar has been restored to its former glory by the extraordinary skills of Mr Eltham Jones.
What is it like now?
The action is restored to its former glory: low, fast, and comfortable.
It stays in tune all the way up the neck.
What does it sound like?
She is wearing extra light strings.
Played softly she is hauntingly beautiful.
Crank it up with a pick and we are 'California Dreaming, and 'The Byrds'. All clean, and jangly with lots of sparkle.
Consider: this was an ex guitar, it was unplayable, neck unstable.
If you placed a straight edge along the fretboard there was a 3mm gap in the centre .
As restorations go this is right up there. The Mary Rose was an Airfix kit by comparison. I cannot speak highly enough of the quality and attention to detail of Eltham's work and have no hesitation in recommending his services.

A very talented craftsman and excellent value too. Did an excellent job repairing my guitar and it costed much less than I was expecting considering the damage.

Put a new stronger nut on my wife's mandolin in an hour or so while we went shopping. Great job and very reasonable cost. Recommended.

A very nice and helpful guy! He helped me with a custom build that had some issues (pickup cavities not perfectly aligned with the pickguard, thimble holes too small), and he clearly knows how to do his job. Recommended.

Eltham set my bass straight and now it plays like a dream. Highly recommend
