I went into Noise Works, Far Gosford Street, Coventry, last Friday morning 29/07/2022 with my Tanglewood semi acoustic/electric guitar. I am a complete beginner and needed new strings, new battery, hard case, capo, picks, strap connector drilling and fixing, and a strap. I was welcomed, made to feel like a valued customer and wasn't made to feel like the beginner that I am, I was treated with respect and all of my needs were catered for. I left with everything that I came in for, and a smile on my face. One Extremely Happy Customer. I Just need to start learning now. Thank you very much, I will be back and will recommend your shop to people I know! I couldn't have wished for more!

First time to meet John what a wonderful surprise a friendly knowledgeable chap. He builds his own guitars, also will fit new strings to your guitar which is really useful as I can't string a guitar yet. If you're guitar needs a setup then John will do that too. He has a great knowledge of the anatomy and will try his best to guide you on your journey. I will go again as I had a great afternoon and hopefully found another guitar to add to my collection. The shop has new and second hand guitars, also amps to.
Go and visit the shop it had great atmosphere it's not a huge commercial store however there's enough to get you started.
I had to edit my review as I decided to buy a guitar from John. As I was filled with confidence after my visit I purchased a Simon & Patrick dreadnought guitar. John helped me with the setup I live about 60 miles away from the shop yet I believe you need more than a salesman when you buy a guitar.
I found out that John will build you a boutique guitar if you require one do a man of many guitar talents.
Thanks for your help and support today. Lastly but not least I must mention Nelson the guard dog, he's such a friendly dog

I haven’t lived in Coventry for more than 10 year but I still take my guitars to Noiseworks if I have a problem.
I had a guitar with a few little niggles so took it to John. It came back better than I could have imagined, it was such an improvement! And you couldn’t find a nicer guy than John.

Brilliant guitar shop . Been using for over 20 years . John who runs the shop is friendly and very knowledgeable on all things guitar. Just did work on my epiphone EJ 165e , now sounds great . Highly recommended. Great shop and service.
D. L.
After a full setup, my guitar sounds much better. Would totally recomend this business. Thanks, John, great service!
i. h.
really good service! was very quick, fixed my strings and tuning for £2.40.
C. W.
Great service and excellent attention to detail. Full set up done on my guitar, including fret leveling, crowning. They even took care of small stuff I didn't expect like tightening the tremelo arm, cleaning the pickup selector so it no longer crackles. Also the guitar had been cleaned and was looking like new when I picked it up, and now plays as it should. I highly recommend and will not hesitate to go back.

Noiseworks, really know what they are doing with setups. They lowered the action on my Spanish guitar which was completely unplayable after being left out in the sun... a long story... it now plays 100% perfectly. Complete magic I thought the guitar could not be saved. John is proper decent, he took the time to chat to me about adjustments I need for my Yamaha tlr 6 string bass and what would be possible.
Brilliant shop, would definitely recommend it.
A.
Highly recommended!!!
John set up two of my guitars and replaced a top nut and a switch. All work was done to the very highest standard. The guitars play brilliantly, they really 'sing' now - the difference is very noticeable.
The work on the nut replaced a shoddy job and I now have a high-end finish. Brilliant!

Can easily recommend this place, not only bought instruments here, but have taken my acoustic guitars, electric guitars and even a banjo for set ups over the years. Most recently had the wiring / pick-ups in my Telecaster sorted here, it now sounds great and has never played better after a proper set-up. Excellent service carried out by someone who clearly knows what they are doing.
W. W. L.
John was great! Sorted out the wiring and replaced the battery clip in my guitar super speedily and somehow managed to get the buzz fixed, too! Great service, very friendly and I also learned a little about my guitar from John. This is definitely my go-to place for all guitar-related buys from now on.

Great little independent shop with a friendly and knowledgeable owner. After many years of it being in pieces I finally rebuild my old guitar that I had taken apart 10 years previous but I didn't really fancy trying to set it up myself especially having a floating bridge so I thought after reading some reviews that I would give noise works a go. My guitar was ready after a few days and plays better than ever, the frets are nicely polished, action beautifully low and now plays like a dream so I would definitely recommend for a set-up. In the store they have a really good selection of second hand guitars, more than what was online. Also they have a nice selection of new and used acoustics for all prices and abilities. Definitely worth a look if your in the area and are looking at buying a new guitar whether a beginner or experiences.

Came to John to buy a bass guitar as the one I ordered from gear4music was below standard. Great atmosphere in the shop, friendliest cutest dog who makes you wanna sit there for hours in peace. John sold me a very good, solid , handmade bass which was also fully set up by him. He didn’t try to sell me the most expensive , just the one that was perfect for my skill. He also helped me out with a gig bag and picks. This is a great shop with a massive selection of guitars and definitely where you want to shop if you’re a musician of any level. Once I master this beginner bass I have, I’m coming right back to buy something bigger and better!
m. w.
Picked up my acoustic guitar today from John after a set up. He is a master techie, the guitar has completely taken on a new dimension and plays beautifully, the action is fantastic and I only have to touch the strings on the frets to get great chord sounds, its much easier to play and longer.
D. G.
Over the years John has worked on all my Guitars and one Banjo. He has consistently provided excellent advice and service, most recently when setting up my new Yamaha to accommodate a lower tuning and heavy strings, I’m happy to say it plays like a dream. Would definitely recommend.
J. H.
Had two repairs done now to two different guitars. Both good quality work and reasonably priced. The easy repair was done whilst I waited (5mins), the more difficult one took longer, but John’s communication was great so I didn’t feel like it wasn’t in hand.
Great service.
M. B.
Absolutely fantastic little guitar shop! John is always as helpful and friendly whether it's buying a plectrum or 2k of vintage guitar! Great variety of stock that's constantly being updated with new and vintage stuff. Great technical advice and always on hand to answer any questions on guitar stuff. He's the only guy in the midlands I'll take my stuff to get serviced, he worked absolute wonders on my Ovation, getting it to the point where it was almost as easy to play as my electrics! If you need a guitar or bass servicing, this is the place to go!
R. O.
Following a recommendation from a serious musician, I recently took an electric guitar to John. I thought the guitar in the first instance was set up fine and the action low. However picking up the guitar, I could not believe the difference, the guitar is almost impossible to put down, so easy to play.
John changed the nut, strings, and did some fret work. The guitar is incredible; I will be taking other guitars over to John.
I am very grateful for the original recommendation, this is a great independent shop with a highly skilled man (John) that loves his work and cares for the guitars he work on.
I could see while in the shop John also sells new and second hand guitars, some amps, strings etc.

I've been a professional musician and teacher since 1981 and have nothing but the utmost respect for John Williams and Noise Works. I've bought countless guitars both acoustic and electric from him, which have all been set up perfectly. Whenever I've needed any work done, no matter how big or small, I've always used Noise Works and the service has always been 100% excellent. I always recommend John to my students, and they too have become loyal customers. The costs are very reasonable too.
j. h.
I get all my guitars set up at this shop. It has a very friendly atmosphere. The owner, John, is always helpful with advise and is very professional with his attitude towards guitar maintenance. If I've got a guitar problem I won't shop anywhere else.
D. S.
I've sent many 100's of students to John at Noise Works to get guitars repaired over the last decade. He's utterly reliable, honest and always up on the latest gear that might solve your problem. He fitted pickups into my 2 prized concert guitars with perfect results and has been great when other work done needed a little tweek to suit my personal tastes. If you need to buy a guitar or have one repaired - this is the place to go. Ask any local professional player!
R. W.
I’ve bought 3 guitars from Noise Works. John is a real gent and very honest.
He knows his stuff and wouldn’t let you go out without the best deal.
Trusted and highly recommended.
R. L.
Friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and good deals too. One of those rare places where they actually care about their customers. You might also get a cup of coffee if the shop isn't too busy! John is an expert guitar builder and technician. My guitars have always come back from one of his set ups feeling better than new. Highly recommended.
A. K.
Friendly, professional. I would never even think that my old guitar will have a new life. After few adjustments it become a very good instrument. I was literally shocked when I play it after repair. Amazing job. I am truly grateful for finding Noise Repair!!!!
P. B.
Great guitar shop, John is able to get everything you would ever need.
Fast, Friendly and efficient service, John always has time for you.
Relaxed and laid back atmosphere, Nelson the dog is always at hand to show you around.
Highly recommend.

I am a professional session guitarist and have toured all over the world with some of the biggest names in music. The only person I trust with my guitars in John at Noise Works. He is a craftsman, his attention to detail is impeccable and his work is of the highest standard. He has done so much work for me over the last 9 years. I live in London and travel up to Coventry just to get him to sort out my guitars. I have recommended him to so many people and I will continue to do so. And to top it off he is one of the nicest guys you could wish to meet. Highly recommended!
J. L.
I’ve been taking my guitars to John for setups for years now, and he’s always done a fantastic job. Knowledgable, trustworthy and always helpful. Strongly recommended!
S. A.
John is a wonderfully supportive, knowledgable, approachable and kind guy. He's amongst the only people I trust with my Guitar.
He has levelled action, restrung, cleaned up, fitted electronics, fixed a cracked neck, ordered shipments of strings in for me, and best of all is in no way snobby or salesperson-like.
If you want anything Guitar-based in Coventry & Warwickshire, go to Noiseworks!
S.
I've needed the services from John at Noise Works a fair few times over the years for my guitars (neck adjustments, set-ups etc) and have never been disappointed with his work. A great guy who is highly passionate about his job. Wouldn't trust anyone else with my gear.
F. F.
The best guitar shop I've ever used & I've been in a few.
I first found John in the late 80's when his shop was under Cabin Studios on the London Road. It was called Hot Strings then. I've used him ever since for new gear, second hand gear, spares & repairs. I wouldn't trust any one else with my guitars. He doesn't just set guitars up, he builds them from scratch. he knows his stuff. Highly recommended.
M. S.
Noiseworks is a fantastic shop. I bought my first electric guitar there back when I was 10 and still visit the shop regularly. John did a brilliant job fixing a neck break on my Gibson SG (can't even see where the break was) and also fixed up my vintage gibson acoustic. It's great value for money and I would recommend it to anyone!
C.
John sells a wide range of musical gear, and runs a very high quality repairs/custom workshop (guarded by his awesome dog!). On top of this, service is super friendly, with plenty of advice on hand. Can't recommend enough.
J. R. L.
Very friendly service and such a good reputation, my son, a professional musician working in London comes back to the Midlands just so he can have John at Noiseworks, work on his guitars. Always helpful, friendly and skilled.
A. C.
For the the last 10 years that I've known him, John at Noiseworks has always been incredibly friendly, professsional and delivers work of the highest standards. His setups are so good that when I return to the Midlands, I still send my guitars to him despite living in London, 100 miles away. I know a lot of people in and outside of the area who go to and swear by John. His most recent fix for me was glueing back on an acoustic guitar headstock that had snapped off, it's now as good as new and noone even notices the crack unless I point it out and get them to inspect it. Another job well done! Use Noiseworks!!!
S. A. S.
John made an excellent job in repairing my guitar, I'm very satisfied. Highly recommended.
W. J.
I take all of my instruments to Noiseworks! I have advised many others to use the shop. The quality is remarkable, especially repair work... I've seen snapped necks look perfect again. My own experience from when John Settle owned the shop to Johnnie Williams owning it has been a great one - no complaints.
It's certainly better than that horrible, misserable shop down the road "strings & things" - he needs closing down.
What makes Noiseworks better again is that "John the Amp" now works upstairs... That means even better service, amp, guitar - all around repair service!
A. W.
Best in the business for guitar repairs, set-up, advice and problem solving. John is absolutely straight and trustworthy. He has worked on 3 classical guitars for me from cheapies to a luthier made £3000 model and in each case worked wonders with them. Proper craftsman.
D. O.
I went here to buy a new guitar and get an old one fixed. He did it for under £200. Chill bloke and his dog is calm too. Definitely coming again.
J. G.
First visit to this beautiful little place and won't be our last.
Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere, fixed my Sons guitar whilst waiting and very reasonably priced as well. Bonus was Nelson the dog keeping me company :)
Thanks very much!

Noise works is the only place I take my basses. John is a legend and works magic with all the gear I take him. His setups make my equipment sing and play like a dream and the service I've had from him over the years has been beyond reproach. Highly recommended.

I felt quite bereft at leaving my precious 12 string acoustic, that I have had since I was about 8 or 9 years old. (i am 57) I think she is in safe hands! John / Jon was so professional and reassuring.
S. F.
I have been playing guitar for approximately 21 years now. In this time I have owned equipment varying in cost, from £100 through to £5000 per instrument. Over the years I have visited other guitar shops, but never been completely satisfied. An example I can give for this is: I owned a limited edition Gibson SG, which at the time was my prized possession. I took it to another local guitar shop in coventry to have a Dimarzio PAF Pro fitted to the bridge. They ordered the pickup in and fitted it. I never liked the guitar after their work, but didnt know why. All I knew was it sounded horribly thin and the feedback was something terrible. Over time, I found John's shop, noiseworks and mentioned it to him. He told me to bring it in so he could look at it, which he did:for free. The other shop, which had charged me £130 for the experience had wired the pickup incorrectly ( connected it in the style of Seymour Duncan, rather than a Dimarzio) which meant the pickup was out of phase, hence the shrill tone and extreme feedback. John fixed this, n a matter of minutes and charged me next to nothing for the reparation.
John's ethos to work is always to provide the best. An example I can give of this is when refretting guitars. He will advise to fit Stainless steel frets, rather than nickle. Now you may wonder why this is anything special, but the truth is, stainless steel frets are extremely hard wearing and will likely never have to be replaced, meaning John will loose out on future refrets, as the work wont be needed.
The truth here is, John always focus's and provided the best quality. His stock is not generic, but boutique a beautifully varied. His workmanship is a pinnacle in the trade and his knowledge is impeccable.
I genuinely do not let anyone else touch my instruments as I know the work will always be completed quickly and professionally. If I ever change my mind, John will rework areas, and does this with not quarms.
He's a genuine professinal and extremely passionate about his work.
Thank you John
G. W.
I've lost count of the number of set ups and repairs John has done for me over the years. Each one has been as flawless as the last. In my opinion he is one of those few luthiers that actually do a set up correctly. Frankly, there's no point in going anywhere else. I don't trust anyone else with my gear and never will. Also - he's one of the nicest and most knowledgable blokes you could wish to meet, a total professional, who gives outstanding and unbiased advice - whether you're a seasoned pro or looking for your first instrument. I can't recommend Noiseworks highly enough.
R. H.
Brilliant workmanship, excellent prices. I have just picked up my 90's Strat that had been living in a damp loft for a number of years. It was in a right state, wonky neck, corroded frets, grotty electrics. It's as good as new and plays like a dream.
Thanks John, wouldn't take my guitars anywhere else.

Have know Mr John Williams (The Welsh Wizard) for over thirty years and can honestly say that not only is he a terrific chap but is first class luthier. if you are looking for pro gear, a set up or if you want to commission someone to make you a electric guitar or bass to the highest quality look no further than John.. and some people come a long way to visit he is on our door step, how lucky is that

I'm glad we have a specialist like John in Coventry. I picked up my Schecter Banshee guitar today and everything is set perfectly. Thank you John!

I think M Kowalski is either in competition, or has John mixed up with someone else. i have been involved in music scene in Coventry for 20 yrs and have sent many a person to Noiseworks. Dealing with many, often very, very fussy and pinickity musicians who demand absolute perfection, I have never heard a single, bad word said about John's work. Everyone is in absolute awe of his skills and he is a true craftsman with a genuine passion in every sense.
I know John would've taken the ONE poor review on here very personally and to heart, as he is the kind of fabulous bloke who puts his heart and soul into his one, true passion and focus. It's a real shame Mr Kowalski felt the need to do this and I am very suspicious of his motives frankly. He will also not answer messages sent to him so I would totally dismiss what he has to say, focussing on what an excellent company Noiseworks is!
John has a unique way of completely understanding where every customer is coming from and almost doing a psychic, empathy reading on their needs. This is the firs time in over 20 years I have heard a bad word said about his amazing work and understandng of the many complexites and subtleties of the guitar. I am convinced this review page will now be swamped with the truth about this fab shop!
YOU WILL NOT FIND A MORE SKILLED TECHNICIAN ANYWHERE IN MY OPINION.
He has been established in Coventry for many, many year and has easily the best name for repairing and selling guitars. I know people who have trusted him with instruments worth countless thousands which he has not only restored in a magnificent way, but added value by waving his personal, magic - touch over.
You will not find a fairer, more skilled, most respected, expert and all-round decent guitar shop in the Midlands. I have stupid amount of gutarists as friends who all agree, including one who helped set-up Patrick Eggle in early 90's who is in awe at their skills.
I would like to challenge Mr Kowalski to elaborate on his comments and explain why he is clearly leaving false reviews for this brilliant shop. Come out from the director's chair and explain yourself sir. Your films are awful and Noiseworks guitar skills are awesome!
g. u.
Dropped my Warmoth Strat in last week due to distinctive loss of tone from 5th and 6th. Diagnosed in seconds had my strings upgraded and replaced while it was there. Collected next day and now enjoying warm tones again. John's a great guy and really knows his gear. There is nowhere else in the midlands I would consider entrusting my guitars to.

Having previously had a local Warwickshire based tech tell me how awful Rickebackers were to set up and basically are so bad, over priced with numerous design, quality flaws, etc etc!
John at Noiseworks on the other hand was brilliant. He took in my Rick 4003 bass and performed a fantastic set up to it. He was very complimentary of Ricks in general and said how much better the newer ones are now which was a breath of fresh air following the previous techs opinion!
Excellent set up price too which included fret levelling. In one word...... BRILLIANT!
r. m.
John @Noiseworks did a super job with my Gibson Melody Maker a lovely set up. And great price.
This place is what a guitar store is supposed to be like.
C. E.
Ordered a mikey way mustang bass, came very quick (2days!!!) and they done the full set up and changed the strings! I was kept updated constantly about my order buy a very polite member of staff! Thanks John 😁😁👍🏻👍🏻

I. B.
Always a faultless service at Noiseworks. John has done a number of set ups for me over the years including fitting 2 acoustic pick up systems; I wouldn't have trusted anyone else taking a hole out the side of my beloved Takamine !
A. G.
Noise Works is an excellent shop. Friendly, professional service, the proprietor, John, always goes the extra mile. I would recommend it to anyone. It beggars belief how anyone could give this shop anything other than 5 stars.
C. D.
Fantastic service..top bloke. Helpful and decent in every way. Great advice on my set up and optimising best from my kit. Generous beyond words. Will be back soon. Cheers John. Have a great upcoming birthday!
D. G.
Took a bass here for a sevice, still plays like a dream 1 year later.
Due for another visit maybe soon.
I may try other strings, i'm sure John can advise me. I highly recommend Noise works.
S. C.
There is no doubt John is a first class Luthier. I put my Epiphone Sheraton in for an overhaul when it started to sound ropy and when I got it back it sounded amazing. The action is so low you barely have to tough the string for the notes to come ringing through. Brilliant John john and thanks again.
S. P.
John Williams is the top man where guitars are concerned, I have used his services a fair bit over the past ten years. I would not use anyone else. Do not believe anyone who says otherwise!
E. K.
My guitar is super cool, and the man there seriously knew his stuff, I will be going again to get my previous guitars services. Amazing!
