N. 9.Took my newly purchased Martin 000-28 to Jimmy's shop, enquired about getting an LR Baggs Anthem pickup installed, his son Evan was very helpful and attentive, and spotted that my neck was too straight and needed a set up. Was offered a great price, full parts and assembly included in the cost, and he cut me a deal for a third off a well needed setup, plus restringing.
When I went to pick it up Jimmy gave me the tour of the Anthem device, let me try it out and gave me a thorough explanation of the do's and don'ts. He then buffed out lots of the small marks on my spruce top and the pickguard leaving it shiny and as new looking as possible for a second hand guitar.
5/5 service, well deserved rating. Thanks again Jimmy and Evan, I will be back.

T. K.To be honest, I'd never heard of Jimmy Egypt & Sons until I saw (online) they had a Guild Starfire I DC in 'Emerald green' for sale at a pretty decent price. The guitar arrived really quickly, was well packed, and (after tuning up of course) played great... I'm always fiddling with set-ups, but haven't touched this one since unpacking, so well done Jimmy Egypt & Sons! Delighted with the guitar and service, and wouldn't hesitate to buy from again. Fab.
L. A. O.Husband just recently had his epiphone Sheraton worked on by Jimmy and Evan and extremely happy. Jack socket and toggle switch were replaced and got a full set up on the guitar. Was always a lovely guitar but since the set up it’s a dream to play. Feels like a much more expensive guitar now. Can’t praise their workmanship highly enough, even the polish they’ve used makes the guitar gleam!!
Dealt with Evan in the shop and he is a very friendly and knowledgeable young man and that definitely makes a difference when you’re handing over a prized possession.

C. W.Been getting my guitars set up by Jimmy & co off and on for a long time. Still the best place to get your guitars looked after. Impressive range of instruments for such a small premises, including more left handed instruments than some of the bigger stores in town.
E. K.Took 2 guitars in for a long needed first setup (Martin D28 and Gretch G6228). The Gretch had been in another Music shop for a setup, but they were unable to fix some buzzing on the B/G Strings and recommended Jimmys. That was a while back during lockdown, so hadn't got around to it until this week (hence guitar lay unused)
The staff a Jimmy's spotted the problem with the Gretch (neck too straight) and did a full setup on the guitar. It now plays the way it should have off the bat.
The Martin action was way too high, around 3.5mm - and was fairly unplayable in higher registers. A full setup on this guitar, lower action, adjusting neck relief and it's just awesome now.
Guitars went in on Monday and were due back on Saturday but were ready on Friday, so picked up early. Happy days.
Amazing transformation on both instruments, I feel like I've bought 2 new guitars. :)

Everyone in Jimmy Egypt are top notch! I have a Maton guitar which was previously lifeless and not up to par, there were quite a few uneven frets and it was causing choking out, back buzz and generally just a dull tone throughout certain ranges on the fretboard. Also, the saddle that I had on it was not well intonated.
Jimmy has been an absolute don with the work he carried out on the instrument, he went over the entire fretboard and reprofiled/crowned the frets to complete precision and excellence. The guitar is an entirely different animal, Jimmy mentioned that Acoustic guitars are particularly primitive deeming it to be a very tricky feat to get it 100%. Now... I'm a very dedicated guitarist and pick up on the finest of details, to the point where if there's an issue with the guitar it becomes disheartening to pick up the instrument.
The work Jimmy and his team have done has made me not want to put the guitar down, they've done that great of a job!
I initially called Jimmy's son Evan on the phone for a consultation who walked me through the steps and sequential checks that would be carried out to find the problem areas on the instrument. Evan was extremely helpful.
The shop is also wonderful and you should definitely experience the superb atmosphere there!

Jimmy installed an excellent LR Baggs acoustic pickup set into the Mayson Baritone I bought from them. Jimmy's installation of the electronics was immaculate with the system working excellently. The work undertaken was also very reasonably priced.
As an aside about the guitar - I have to say that the Mayson is a nicely put together instrument for the money. I've tweaked the saddle and nut for intonation (added a compensated shelf) but was pleased to see that they are bone.The hard case is a real bonus too!

J. W.I had my lovely but worn out Taylor 714 re-fretted and set up about 6 months ago. The workmanship was superb and it came back to me like a new instrument, but well played in. 6 months on I can say that the guitar is still playing beautifully. I was nervous having an expensive instrument worked on, but I have to say the fretwork is like new and straight from the Taylor factory. I highly recommend Jimmy's repair work and if you have a good guitar that's worth breathing new life into, take it in for a re-fret - its been a delight!
PS I was so impressed, I got an old faithful strat re-fretted as well. Standard of work again excellent and has transformed this instrument.

A. P.I recently put two of my guitars in for set up and upgrade work with Jimmy and couldn't be more delighted with the results. Early 90s Gibson SG was in much need of some tlc to bring her back to her best and some hardware replacements. Back to top form now. Most impressively my Epiphone Sheraton from the Samick factory is now like a different guitar. The fallaway on the high frets and the Seymour Duncan in the bridge have changed the feel and the usability of the guitar no end. Without exaggeration it is now on the same page as a decent 335, delighted. I haven't used Jimmy for any guitar work for a while due to not playing live so much in recent years but he is still the go-to guitar man in Glasgow. Thanks again! Andy
J. D.5 stars for Jimmy himself, he's a good guy and knows what he's doing. Overall though, 2 stars off for the young lad in the shop. When a guitarist asks specifically what he wants done on the guitar they've been playing longer than you've been out of school, don't question their requests with your snooty disposition! If Mr Egypt wasn't in the shop and hadn't stepped in when he did, I would have walked out and went elsewhere

Walked in, and despite not stocking either brand, he managed to off the top of his head give me ALL the right screws for two guitars for a fiver inside five minutes. They all fit. R. H.I got myself a second hand Guild acoustic from a "chain guitar shop". Wrongly advertised model and not set up at all. Basically box shifters (nice people mind you). The action was all over the place.
Took it to Jimmy (who did my previous acoustic and Electric). He reset the bridge, Nut, polished frets fingerboard, trus rod, etc etc. WOW WOW WOW.... plays like a different and far better guitar now. He has made this wonderful vintage acoustic a guitar for life. Even if you buy a new guitar, take it to this man to have it set up properly.

W. M.I can tell you, these guys are the best! A Pleck job I had done on a Gibson Les Paul made a terrible mess and I thought it needed a refret after. The repair (fret level) completed was to the highest standard and I was blown over with the results, I mean knocked out! The guitar is now the best playing guitar I've owned. The finishing on the bone nut could not be better, it's a work of art! Super friendly and professional too. Don't waste your time on Pleck machines, send your fretted instrument to Jimmy Egypt's guitar repair workshop. It's rare these days to find such attention to detail. I can't thank them enough!

P. K.My (bargain?) Japanese '62 Strat-copy project seemed to be going well. New '57/'62 pick-ups and new hum screening, all fitted and wired up. Now I just had to make a few adjustments to set it all up. Doh! The poor build-quality (warped neck, uneven fret heights, new 'Bladerunner' tremolo unit I'd installed) were all impossible to deal with. And I mean truly impossible. I left it at Jimmy Egypt's for a "Full Pro Set-Up" with expectations of at least a playable solution. F*** me. What I got back might just as well be a genuine '62 Strat (I've owned one), except that it plays cleanly throughout (bends anywhere) and the intonation is perfect. I can use the tremolo however I like and it stays in tune. - I've never known a Strat to do that. I don't know how they managed it but a totally lost cause has been transformed into a great guitar. That really was a bargain.

I previously wrote an average review which was not very fair and was a bit grumpy (on that day) I guess, on reflection I think it was not the right thing to do as this is a great store and much better stock and expertise than most, its a rare thing and needs support during these tough times.
