Ross did a great job of restoring a set of pipes made between 1842 and 1864, by John Ban Mackenzie. The pipes were gifted to me, and needed lacquer taken off. They look great, and are sounding great too.

Ross is a tremendous craftsman with great attention to detail. Throughout the years he has refurbished several sets of pipes for me, all to an exceptional standard.
I have recently been playing a set of pipes made by Ross. They are steady as a rock and produce a full-bodied, rich sound. The finish and tonal quality of them is excellent and I would highly recommend these pipes to anyone!
A truly talented pipe maker.

I would definitely recommend Ross for refurbish, repairs or one of his sets of bagpipes.
I own a set of his bagpipes and I am in the planning stages for a second set. His drones are melodic, yet bold and steady. His craftsmanship is second to none and he makes a top quality instrument that will last a lifetime.
He has done repairs for me on previous sets as well with great attention to detail and an excellent outcome. You will not be disappointed with either his work or his customer service.

Ross recently carried out some work on a set of vintage R.G. Lawrie pipes, including a full refurb, a new midsection for the bass drone and all the stocks. The quality of the craftsmanship is first class! All the replacement parts look original, with matching tapered ferrules. In short, he restored them to their former glory!
First class job, quick response and all at a more than reasonable price. I couldn't recommend Johnstone Bagpipes more!

Ross did a complete refurb' on my later grandfather's Henderson-Lawries circa 1930's set. Wood and ivory looking as good as new. Drones are singing sweetly. I cannot recommend Ross Johnstone's expertise and quality of service highly enough. Delighted with all of the work he did and for a very fair price! Calum MacCrimmon

I have had a few refurbs carried out by Ross and every time the work has exceeded my expectations. His craftmanship and attention to detail are second to none. His refurb work is also excellent value for money compared to some of the other pipe makers I have used previously.

Top quality workmanship and five star service .....my "go to" shop for all refurbishment work. A pleasure to deal with and very reasonable prices too. Would recommend to anyone looking to have their instrument given a new lease of life.
