Reviews of Rockfield Guitar Engineering Services

Absolutle mad lad, I brought in my Ibanez AZ for a custom shop setup and this was the first time I ever bought these kinds of services so I was a bit nervous. But Kay was so cool and accomdating at every step. He did an absolute god smacking job at setting up my guitar. Things like: incredibly low action, lubricating the tuners, cutting the nut, fret dress and trem adjusment. I thought the set up from the factory was good as is (it wasn't). But Kay just set the bar so unimaginably high. The tuning stability is amazing and it feels like butter to play now. Will definitley be coming back with my other guitars in the future.

Kay had worked his magic again! In the last month he has worked miracles on both my guitars (Les Paul and Yamaha Pacifica).
Not only does he talk clients through options. He is passionate about his work and attention to detail.
Excellent customer services is built in automatically!

Highly recommended! Kay fitted a new neck to my Strat and corrected my failed attempt to solder some new pickups. He really cares and took the time to ensure I was happy with the setup. Superb service, thanks!
D. L.
Very knowledgeable and helpful guitar workshop. Needed a proper set up for two of my guitars and the work done was to a high standard. One guitar had a further issue a few months later which was fixed within 15 minutes. Would highly recommend!

Second review of Rockfield because they're just that great!
Had my first experience with Markay last year when he set up my Les Paul and did an incredible job.
Recently I bought a new PRS Custom 24. PRS have a reputation for shipping already set up. But after playing mine for a couple of weeks, it didnt feel perfect so I brought it to Markay and let me tell you, he worked absolute MAGIC on the guitar. I got it back and it plays like a complete dream. Markay did a full set up and full laser fret dress which has made the guitar's action so incredibly low without a single hint of fret buzz anywhere on the neck. The guitar rings like a bell and plays like a completely different guitar.
If you're in or around London, or you ever get to London and you play guitar, you will be doing yourself a huge favour by dropping it by Rockfield and having Kay sort it out.

I have to say that Kay is some kind of evil genius! I’m a beginner guitarist so I don’t know much about guitars, but I took him a Tanglewood acoustic that was excruciatingly difficult to play and what I got back is so smooth and the action is so low that I’m actually having to relearn not to press down so hard - it plays like an absolute dream!! I also gave him a battered old Epiphone SG that didn’t even work and now it looks and plays like a new guitar. Definitely go for the pro setup - you won’t be disappointed! Thanks again Kay 👍🏻
D. F.
Had a broken headstock on a Gibson Les Paul and he fixed it perfectly. He also set the guitar up and made it sound better than it did before! Would highly recommend as he was so professional and helpful throughout the process.
R. K.
Excellent service. Markay takes great pride in his work. My guitar plays brilliantly now, perfect low action and sounds great.

Kay of Rockfield Guitar Engineering has repaired and set up 5 of my guitars thus far, from Vintage acoustics & contemporary acoustics to Vintage and contemporary Electric guitars, and even a Peavey T40 bass guitar.
Kay's attention to detail is quite amazing, and he is a legend in the industry, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him for any manner of guitar repairs.
How he manages to get the action so low is a mystery.

I bought a 2020 Strat professional II during lockdown and after changing to a lighter gauge string set found that the neck had developed a slight back-bow. After watching the inevitable YouTube videos and 'tinkering' I was unable to achieve my desired setup (it didn't help that the wrong size Allen key was supplied by Fender for truss rod adjustment) and so eventually in frustration decided that professional help was needed. I took the guitar to Markay for a basic setup yesterday and got my strat back today - first impressions - it plays so great now! Beautifully low action, floating trem set just right, no nasty fret buzz and I can't wait to sit down with it for a proper session! Markay gave professional feedback and advice and he will now be my local 'go-to-guy' for all my future guitar needs!
C. B.
Fantastic full set-up for a Les Paul, honestly never played right until Markay worked his magic, now I love it! So much so I got him to do the same to my Telecaster. Great service, lovely bloke. Would highly recommend.
D. D. S.
Truly excellent workmanship. I have a Gibson SG that was a bit rough, slow to play and dull sounding from the factory, Markay diagnosed it immediately as poor frets and sanded them to perfection alongside a full set up! The guitar is so fast and slick now, the 10 gauge strings feel like more like 8 gauge.
Markay also did a perfect job on fitting a fell set of Fishman Fluences and a full electrical replacement, and fixed a tuning head I'd forgotten about. It's a total different guitar now, and by far my most playable guitar.
L. G.
Look no further if you need your guitar sorted to the highest possible standard! After having my Strat messed around with in the past by people who clearly didn’t know anything about guitars I thought that the damage on my beloved Strat would be permanent! I’m honestly blown away with the work that Kay has done! I’ve never had a guitar play so well it’s unbelievable! And all the work done in 24 hours! If there was a button for 10 stars I would click it! Take your guitar to Kay right now even if you think it plays perfectly, I can assure you he will make it play a million times better!!

Second time I've used Kay for my guitar setup. As well as giving him my Washburn to setup (which he did a few years ago) I also gave him my brand new Big Baby Taylor. Once again job well done! Both guitars play beautifully! I've also handed over a pretty beat up spanish guitar which he has so far done a great rebuild on as I'm planning on giving it to my sister as an incentive to start playing again. All in all extremely happy with the work and will be using again. Thank you K
S. C.
Markay is a true professional who brought my Baby Martin to life for the very first time. Now she sings like a dream. Will only use him from here on out. Thanks!
O. S.
Markay is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about music and guitars, and provides an exceptional level of service. I took my guitar to him for a full rebuild and custom fret dress, as well as the installation of a new nut, and it now sounds and feels like a completely new (and much better) guitar. Completely worth bringing your instruments to him, he works wonders and really knows his stuff! He's also a genuinely lovely guy, the sort of person you feel like you've known forever after only 5 minutes. He was even super understanding when I couldn't pick my guitar up at the time we'd agreed, and was flexible to let me pick it up the next day. If I could rate higher than 5 stars, I would.
S. R.
I needed help to replace a faulty tuner on my acoustic guitar. Markay provided a complete new set of tuners, with a restring, oil wax and clean for a very reasonable price. But what made the service extra special was that, without charge, he moved the strings closer to the fretboard, making it play far better than it ever has. Would definitely recommend Rockfield!
s.
I had a new Fender Mexican Strat which has not been greatly built and gave a terrible buzz that was coming out through an amp. Markay spent quite a lot of time fixing that, all for the price of the basic set up. The ouput is great - very low action and plays absolutely great. Saved me the hassle of a warranty claim with Fender. Thanks a lot!
M. C.
Fantastic service all round! Markay is a super friendly and knowledgeable engineer and has done an amazing set up. My guitar now plays, sounds and looks better than I could ever have thought possible.
Could not recommend higher!
B. R.
Awesome service. Made what I thought were OK
to play guitars into fantastic to play guitars.
Highly recommended.
D. C.
Really knows his stuff. Will explain the pros and cons of every decision. Can tackle real technical issues and will fix it exactly like he says he will. Very happy I found him!
R. B. (.
Extremely good service!
I booked my guitar in for a basic set up with Kay and we discussed what I needed and within an hour of me dropping the guitar to him it was ready to collect! The guitar in question plays beautifully and is perfectly intonated.
Worth every penny I'll be going to Kay for my future set ups and certainly recommend him
T. B.
Kay gave me a great, personalised service, where it was clear throughout the consultation that he not only knows his stuff but also cares about the quality of his craftsmanship. I opted for the Full Rebuild and Guitar Setup including some extra work fixing the electronics. Not only was this fully completed within a few days, but it was to such a high standard that the guitar (11 years old) now seems better than when new! Fully recommend.
J. R.
Can not recommend Kay & Rockfield Guitar Engineering highly enough. I have had multiple guitar setups, and had my Les Paul fixed when the headstock broke clean off in transit.
All work is done to an exceptional standard, with time, care and a huge amount of expertise. Communication is great, and turn arounds time fast. I would not go anywhere else in London for guitar setups or repairs!
t. c.
Kay was outstanding - couldn't speak more highly of this service.
I gave him a bashed up guitar that I inherited and received a top quality guitar that sounded brilliant. The price was below market rate but the service was well above.
I would recommend anyone and his dog to get all his guitaring needs from him in the future.
K. V.
Excellent service, a great empathy with guitars and guitarists, passionate and meticulous and at a good price, all work guaranteed. Would definitely recommend to guitarists at all levels.
G. V.
After many years of simply mediocre "techs", it is a pleasure to finally find a hugely talented guitar engineer who can handle absolutely anything I throw at him (I'm talking 1930's archtops to my own luthier built instruments). I couldn't imagine using anyone else!
S. A.
Highly recommend! Ive left him with my ESP LTD eclipse, he's fret dressed and improved the sound quality overall to a high standard. Will be back for more with my other guitars, many thanks.
I. B.
Unbelievable. Markay set up 2 guitars for me, an unplayable acoustic I’ve had for 20 years and a new Epi Les Paul Pro that I bought 9 months ago. After the set up, the acoustic is an actual guitar now. It's never been like this. In fact, I never even got it out because it was useless. It's plays amazingly now.
The Les Paul is something completely out of this world. It's like I only have to whisper my thoughts and the notes appear and just sing. It's so light that I've actually changed my style because I now realise how heavy handed I was and what I was doing to the frets and also the strings.
I know other reviewers have said that it’s like they got a completely different instrument back and that’s true, but it goes beyond that. I now own the best electric guitar that I’ve ever picked up. It’s unlocked what the guitar truly is on both the sound and playability level.
I don’t know what Markay exactly does to guitars but there is one thing that’s true, there is some serious artistry in his work.
Any guitar I buy in the future is going straight to Markay as soon as it get it.
R. A.
I had my humble Squier setup done here about a year ago. I've used it almost everyday and I'm an absolute beginner (so not necessarily someone that knows how to handle a guitar properly). One year later it is still amazing! There are no frets buzzing, it keeps in tune for a long time and it has low action. I couldn't recommend Rockfield Guitar Engineering more!
G. R.
I contacted Kay earlier this week to take a look at a factory set Les Paul (G string constantly going out of tune, poor bridge setting) and see what could be done to make it better. Within 24 hours Kay worked it into great shape. New bridge, saddle settings, fret board work, etc. Plugged it in last night and sounds amazing...if only Kay could improve the guitarist as well!
L. R. J.
Kay is a genius. I can unequivocally say that the guitar he set up for me is the best feeling, best sounding instrument I’ve ever played, and I’ve played more than a few. It was worth every penny, and some. If you live in London, you’ll want to take your guitar to Kay. If you live in Alaska, you’ll want to hop on a plane and take your guitar to Kay. I do not exaggerate. I won’t be taking mine anywhere else.
J.
Absolutey delighted with the service from Kay, restrung, cleaned, oiled, waxed and lowered plus a few extras, feels like a brand new guitar! Great to listen to some of Kay’s obviously massive knowledge of guitars, will absolutely be back in the future, see if I can learn a few more things off him! Thanks Rockfield
J. N.
Great service and clearly knows what he's doing. As a novice to the guitar world I feel like I can always rely on Kay's trusted advice and help. The first time I left my guitar with him he changed the instrument into a different kind of 'animal'. The second time I went to see him he resolved an annoying fret buzz in less than 30 seconds. This guy is a pro.
J. S.
I found Kay after a quick search for guitar engineers online. He was able to see me the same day and offered a 24hr turn around for a fairly complex request. When I received my guitar it played perfectly.. far better than any previous set up I'd had by others. This man is extremely passionate about his craft and his expertise really shows when you get hands on with your instrument. Well deserved five stars will be returning again!
j. B.
Amazing service all round. Took my Les Paul Classic there for the full Rock Field Set up. Was a little hesitant at the start. But it was all done with in two days and wow. I thought i had it set up pretty good. But nope. This was well worth it. Wish i had done it soon :) Thanks Markay, You are talented at what you do. See you again for sure.
Cheers Jeff Brown

Kay took my brother’s old Telecaster which was in pretty rough shape and turned it into something that feels and sounds amazing. He’s clearly a passionate guy and a perfectionist and he even invited me for a pint after picking up the guitar; top man. Highly recommended.
R. F.
Kay is a wizard of guitar repair. Have had him set up two guitars for me now in less than 2 months. Always operates on next day turn around even while having multiple clients booked in. I would highly recommend the fret levelling, even on a new guitar (had Kay do it on my brand new Gibson Les Paul) the difference is night and day. Can not recommend this dude enough!
J. N.
If you're fed up with never being 100% satisfied with your guitar setup, and just spent your professional life thinking that it's the norm, then you're not alone!
Markay however does exceptional work, and meticulously ensures that your guitar leaves his workshop as good as possibly can be. He doesn't cut corners and makes sure you're 100% happy with his 3 month guarantee.
Highly recommend!
J. Z.
Markay did a great job servicing my guitar. Fast turnaround, good value and a pleasure to deal with. Highly recommended!
H. H.
Kam did an incredible job with my guitar. Gave my my brand new PRS for a basic setup, and 24hrs later I had it back playing better than I ever imagined. Very professional service, listened to exactly what I wanted. Most importantly I really trusted him and felt like my new pride and joy was in the hands of someone who cared and is passionate about what they do
C. B.
Markay is fantastic, very friendly and professional service that delivers! I took my no.1 guitar in for a total refresh including fret levelling, full set up and some extra mods. The fretwork he did on the guitar is outstanding and the setup was eye opening! Initially there were some kinks to iron out with the parts used in the mod, but a follow up appointment was made quickly and painlessly to get it sorted, Awesome stuff!

After being warned away from businesses closer to home, Rockfield were recommended to me by the guys at Red Dog Music, and I couldn't be happier they did. Kay was friendly, honest and explained everything he was going to do for the money I was spending. Great value for the most expert work!
He was especially gracious when I completely missed our appointment to pick my guitar up!!
Couldn't recommend them highly enough. Don't go anywhere else.
O. P.
I have used Rockfield for several specific set up issues. I have a hybrid custom guitar which went through several issues others had failed to solve. Markay gave sound advice, and had the technical skills to back it up. They were efficient, communicative and were great value for money. The "big boys" let me down, and damaged my instrument, and cost me money. Rockfield are a one to one consulting service and I was able to ask as many questions as I liked. Would recommend to anyone.
J. T.
I very rarely leave reviews but the service I received from Rockfield Guitar Engineering was exceptional! I have put off getting the action lowered on my guitar for ages for fear of choosing the wrong company. Kay put me at ease immediately with his professionalism, personalised service, his passion and meticulous attention to detail. Within 24 hours I am now in possession of what seems like a brand a new guitar, it looks and sounds beautiful. If you want to know your guitar will be in safe hands and that they will love and care for it as much as you do then Rockfield Guitar Engineering is the place to go.
N. N.
i highly recommend Kay. Very knowledgeable and passionate about what he is doing. I brought my guitar to him for a setup and he did something I wasn't expecting
A. Z. P.
Couldn’t recommend Rockfield Guitar Engineering enough. Markay really brought something new to my experience of guitar engineering by giving my guitar a completely personalised set up and fret dress. He asked me questions about my playing and got me to play a bit for him so he could figure out what kind of player I was and work the guitar accordingly.
Couldn’t be happier with what it’s like to play now. Total dream. I knew my guitar would be in good hands. Really reasonable prices and 24 hour turn around!
So impressed. If you need anything done or adjusted on your guitar look no further!
S. E.
Quick and easy to book an appointment convenient for me; premises easy to reach being close to a tube station and bus stops; basic guitar set-up completed immediately by a professional who seemed both passionate about and meticulous in his work (Markay); price very competitive for the work undertaken, and guitar very much improved after it. Overall I’m extremely pleased with Rockfield Guitar Engineering’s service and won’t hesitate to use it again.

Markay was able to transform my mim Stratocaster into something that feels and plays
Like a custom shop Fender ( no better actually) , fantastic ! Personal service and fast turn around. I stumped up for the Full Rockfield set up and custom fret dress and was not disappointed, cant put it down now .
A. F.
My fist time meeting Kay and using his service. He is very professional and knows the guitar business very well. He restored a guitar for my daughter that went through Hurricane Irma and brought it back to life for her to continue playing. I appreciate all the work and diligence that you put into my daughters guitar. I will highly recommend you to any musician needing your professional services.
A. C.
Really quality service from Markay! I took my bass in for a tune up and it honestly feels like a different instrument. The 24hr turnaround was really impressive, as was his evident passion and wealth of experience. Can't recommend him enough!
M. T.
I was pleasantly surprised with Rockfield Guitar Engineering.
Kay is one of a kind!
I took my Fender Stratocaster to be looked at , as it wasn't playing right. It was dull and The nut on the top E string became worn too easily and the B string had a habit of snapping too easily. This was soon remedied.
Seeing him at work you really understand his appreciation and care he has for any instrument. And his depth of knowledge about instruments and their workings is unparalleled. There is nothing this man does not know.
I am really impressed how well my guitar plays. The issues are now solved. The fret board feels and looks great.( It comes with warranty too)
I can't recommend Rockfield Guitar Engineering enough! Will be using them again.
At the end of the day, I am confident in the knowledge that my guitar is getting the best care and attention it truly deserves.
J. D.
Had a meeting with Kay that i arranged earlier that day. Had both my acoustic and electric guitar finished the next day and they look and play like brand new guitars! Highly reccomend for proffessional and quick service from a guy who loves what he does!
S. B.
Markay has done quite a bit of work for me over the past few years and each time has done a superb job, including making a brilliant set up job on a Strat to make it one of the nicest guitars I've ever played, turning an unplayable fretless bass into a great gigging instrument and an emergency fast-turn-around repair on another bass recently. Excellent service, fast, reliable and great value. Highly recommended.
R. D.
Had a Pro Setup with Fret Dress.
Guitar has never played better. Quick service and extremely helpful with any questions I had.
T. M.
Kay is a very friendly and clearly an expert in his field! After being set up by him my guitar plays fantastically. Brilliant service and worth every penny.
G. F.
I am very fortunate to have a guitar technician of his calibre in my area. What is more, I doubt you will find one who is a better combination of thoroughness, efficiency and communication. After his guitar setup, not only was the guitar very polished in tone and design but I appreciated other more subtle modifications with time such as the improvement in pinch harmonics. Whenever someone asks me to recommend a guitar technician - he is the first to spring to mind.
O. M.
Markay is a great guy to deal with who went beyond the call of duty fixing and improving my guitar, which is now a joy to play. He did a super quick job and was extremely keen to ensure I was a happy customer.
Great job, highly recommended. Many thanks.
M. P.
Like a new guitar!
Markay took my somewhat warped and feeling sorry for itself Takamine acousto-electric and worked his magic, reglueing the bridge which was starting to come detached, installing a new saddle and completely levelling the fretboard. It now sounds clearer, crisper and louder than the day I bought it, and I now sound like Bert Jansch! Well that last bit might be a slight exaggeration but great work nonetheless.
S. H.
I have had two guitars done here. One was a vintage mahogany Strat with worn frets, and Markay rescued that has put a few more years of life in the neck. The other was a box-fresh Bullet Strat that initially played miserably, and Markay has made it silky smooth. I have been to many London luthiers (in Putney and Denmark Street) and this is the best work, and best value, I have come across yet. Markay is very skilled but also extremely quick. I cannot recommend Rockfield highly enough. 6 stars.
L. H.
Rang up last night to enquire as to whether I could book an appointment and Markay was not only able to book me in the next day but also ended up being able to complete my job within the day as well.
Markay is clearly very passionate about guitars and his work shows that, my old family hand me down guitar feels like a brand new instrument now. I am fairly new to playing guitar and Markay was able to provide a service to suit my level of skills (or lack thereof), very personable and friendly. Highly recommend.
K. R.
Just collected my old Fender acoustic which never felt eight although I liked the sound of it.
I went for the full set up inclusive of professional fret dressing
Now it feels like it should have always felt and sounds better than I could have wished for
It's as simple as that 👌🏻 feels like butter under my fingers
M. M.
Hands down the best guitar setup/repair guy in the biz!
Do not, I repeat , do not take your guitars for set ups or repairs anywhere else in London or the UK but Markay at Rockfield Engineering.
Plus Most will change your strings and rub some lemon oil on your guitar!
This was the most comprehensive set up I've ever had. I took in my 12 year old guitar , that sounded like a rats nest with strings siting in the neck and buzzing like a cheap Yamaha!
The amount of work each guitar needs is covered in the price. And my guitar had been neglected!, neck shims and adjustment, wiring issues, bridges lifting off, are just some of the things he took care of.
Most importantly my guitar plays and sounds better than it has ever.
I'm a producer but have also toured with my band, some that I now produce. I've always had guitar techs who were great but no one has my my stuff sound as good and play as well as Marky.
Go here !
E. T.
Thank you Rockfield London!
Quality work in fitting my new guitar neck and tuners and stealth bass string retainer - Two tasks that'd effectively change the entire look of the guitars but the results are impeccable and the accountability/expertise is second to none. Furthermore, Kay employs a more personal and hands on approach than the traditionally trained luthier because of their understanding of guitar engineering - overall superfast turnaround, highly communicative and very affordable (!)
B. C.
Markay gave precision love and attention to my Ibanez 7 string resulting in an instrument that felt 'more together' with improved pickup positions, resculptured nut, smoother frets and better string tension, overall much improved and ultimately fun to play, oh and did I mention holds tuning much better. I was impressed with the customer focus he gave and the swift turn around time! Thoroughly recommend.
T. S.
Markay is clearly very passionate about what he does, and he does it very well. Took my Martin D16-GT from me sounding lifeless and sad, bought it back looking pretty and singing. Very reasonable price and excellent job. He turned up at the studio today with his tools because he'd wanted to get that extra sparkle on top of the sparkle he'd already given it at no extra cost. That's what you can expect, service above and beyond.
Would highly recommend.

Rockfield Guitar Engineering are total heroes!! Picked up a battered vintage 74 Gibson L6 from eBay, that spent the best part of the last 25 years unplayed in a lock up and previous to that bashed to buggery by 90s alt-metal stalwarts Therapy?. Fret buzz all over the place and various loose odds and ends. Found these guys online and went with them based on their excellent reviews, and they don't disappoint.
Got a full Set Up With Fret Dress and now its an awesome weapon of rock and a total beauty to play. Such dedication and attention to detail, tailoring the set up right down to your own personal playing style. And a three month guarantee. Very handy with a vintage, after the first fret dress, with couple of weeks of playing and change in the weather, the old beast had a bit of settling down to do. Just as Markay said it would and as promised he had another look at it, another fret dress and set up and all part of the original service. Bloody brilliant. Great stuff. Thank you Rockfield Guitar Engineering!
A. L.
I brought an old battered Gibson J40 to Rockfield, which I thought wasn’t going to be worth fixing, but Kay made short work of sorting it out so it sounded fantastic. Amazing attention to detail and proper old-fashioned pride in his work. I will never go to anyone else to set up or repair guitars in future, and neither should you.
B. M.
just received back my beloved late fathers vintage 62” les Paul from rockfield engineering, couldn’t be more happy, Mr Boyle treated it with the respect and compassion I could only hope for for a well loved and cared for family instrument. Completely professional and even included guarantee if any changes to be made over the next few months. Highly recommend rockfield engineering and wouldn’t go to anyone else especially after trying to be conned by other guitar specialists! Glad I found this amazing, personal professional!
N. S.
Kay is brilliant, you can expect the highest standard of professionalism, service and speed, as well as a wealth of insight and knowledge in his field. I was particularly impressed by his understanding of physics which informs his strategy for treating the instruments. My guitar is playing beautifully now, and I will be bringing more guitars along in the future. Well worth every penny
J. E.
After struggling with rubbish action on my Takamine acoustic for longer that I care to admit (great pickups so my choice for recording and gigging), I finally contacted Markay at Rockfield Guitar Engineering to see if he could help. He told me what needed doing and set it up so it now plays better than a lot of my electric guitars that I'd paid other people to set up!
A. M.
I have been using rockfield guitar engineering for several years now.
As a professional guitarist i need them to feel how you would expect them to feel straight off the shelf.
Never have i experienced a guitar action so low with no buzz or choking out.
Fantastic work well done!!!!!
S. D.
Markay has worked on two of my Les Pauls and both times he has gone above and beyond in all respects. His attention to detail is unprecedented and his passion clearly shows in his service and how utterly ridiculous the guitars play after he has worked on them. This is easily the service
D. L.
Nothing says passion and dedication like Rockfield Guitar Engineering. You're in safe hands once your instrument has been assessed and tended to. A service like this is worth every penny! Such craftsmanship is needed if you plan to step up the game
😉 or else how will you ever know your more about weapon of choice
D. S.
Markay took my Ibanez for a full set up and fret dress as she needed some TLC. When she came back to me (in less than 24 hours which is a great turnover time) I was absolutely blown away by how different she looked AND sounded. It feels superb whilst I'm playing and I can handle lead lines much more comfortably now she's been serviced. I'm extremely impressed with Markay's handiwork. I definitely got what I payed for. Thank you Markay!
A. L.
Markay did an excellent job with a fret dress for an acoustic guitar that was developing a nasty fret buzz. He was always responsive, he knew his stuff, and he worked fast - got my guitar back to me the next day.
S.
Fixed my guitar in only a day. Markey went above and beyond with deep cleaning, rewiring, shaving down the fretboard and it plays beautifully. I highly recommend his services!
J. P.
Unbelievable turn around time, completely set up my acoustic in 24 hours. It's like a new guitar. Really friendly and extremely knowledgeable guy. Wouldn't go anywhere else
A. R.
Kay was amazing, what he done to my guitar was nothing short of a miracle. nice, honest genuine guy highly recommended 🤘🏻👍🏻
C. C.
The service received from Rockfield is second to none. I've never had such an open, honest and hard working service from anyone in the music industry, ever. I can't recommend the services enough, my guitar feels brand new and can't wait to get playing it!
R. L.
Kay knows everything about how a guitar should be set up. Player centric, he will exceed expectations, and is great fountain of knowledge of the guitar and otherwise.
D. H.
Markay is the only person I've ever used to have my guitars set up and to be given a little TLC. He's passionate about the work and has a real eye for detail. I couldn't recommend him enough
N. C.
Fell in love with my guitars again!! They feel, play and sound better, significantly! Grabbing one is now infectuous and inspiring (as it should be...?).
Amazing work and attention to details from a trully passionnate experienced engineer. Highly recommended!
B. I.
Amazing service, sent in my Electric and it came back playing better than I thought it could. They're really friendly and I will absolutely be using them for all my Guitar needs in the future
s. r.
Markay took my fender strat richie Sambora signature edition and lowered the action on the guitar and trimmed the frets so that it was super easy to play and so much faster than before. No fretbuzz whatsoever! great work

i do not own a very expensive guitar a Yamaha APX-3 to be exact and it didn't sound too well at first, after it came back from Rockfeild guitar engineering with a fret dress and a tweak on the action it plays as good as any if not better ! i used to own a very rare guitar called a LANDOLA D-60 was the dreadnought anniversary series and Rockfeild went to work on that guitar too, K lowered the action complete fret dress, and replaced the plastic nut and saddle for a much more dense exotic bone it had a sound and base like nothing i have ever heard.
Thank you K @ Rockfeild Guitar Engineering

Let me tell you a little bit about my Echo guitar. I bought it from Kenny Mc Andrew about forty years ago. Kenny was raising all the money he could in order to go to India to ask his girlfriend's father, ( some kind of Maharajha) if he could marry her. He was loath to sell the Echo because, he said, it was the only guitar he had ever played that was perfect all the way up and down the neck. He made me promise that if I ever sold it I would have to give him first refusal. Kenny went on to be a very successful guy in the music industry and, for instance, produced and engineered Stewart Copeland's first solo album after Police. I have never come close to giving my guitar away. I took it to France and hitch hiked all over the country. I took it to Brasil and lived with it there for ten years. Many people asked me to sell them that guitar. Like Stevey from Atlanta, slightly on the run, I have to say. That guy begged me to sell him my guitar so that he could survive psychologically in Rio until he went back to the US and faced up to his charge. I wouldn't sell him my guitar, even though he made me a final offer of $3,000. Thing is, I was using it to survive psychologically myself.
When I came back to England the Echo had a crisis and the neck broke off. It was an old guitar and it had been through huge temperature variations and just a lot of hard work. In Rio every jobbing player wanted to try it out. I had also plumbed away on it every night. I was distraught. I thought about destroying it. Then I found a marvellous guy associated with Chandler guitars in Kew, London. He did a brilliant repair and improvement on the Echo and the guitar by then was better than it was when new, better machine heads, better action, better scratchplate, bridge, etc, etc. Chandler closed a few years ago and I lost touch with that specialist. Thing is these guitar mavems are all unique, strange men, obsessed with the microcosm , not the macrocosm. When I couldn't find the Chandler guy again I let the Echo fester for a few years. Eventually, Ben, my son, sent it to Markaye last year and he brought it to a standard that it has never previously been at. I could bore you with a lot of tech stuff but it boils down to some technical perfection here. I wouldn't sell this guitar now for any money,. It is the only technically, and acoustically, perfect guitar i have ever had the privilege to play. Thank you Markaye for bringing my Echo back from the dead. It is not, now, the guitar that emerged from the factory, it is a much, much better thing. Thank you Markaye.

Kay is the guy you need. No question - I was a little stunned by what he could see in terms of improvement and how quickly and expertly he turned this job around. I’ve got a crazy jazz classical 8 string and he wasn’t phased - just excited! A great sense of humour that will put you at ease too!

After hearing great things from various sources, I contacted Markay to take on my favourite left handed bass. Within less than 24 hours I received it back looking the best it's ever been and playing like I could never imagine. Highly knowleable and passionate. Went above and beyond. Would highly recommend.

I took Markay a MIJ P Bass that I had spotted in a charity shop window and snapped up. It wasn't in good condition but he made it look new, and better set up than straight from the factory, called me that it was ready to pick up, all within a couple of hours on the same day! Great service in every sense, thanks Markay.

After months of looking for a person able to fix my guitars I discovered Kay, I left him a '72 Strat and a 2020 Strat, the work he did was exceptional, wonderful, he changed the nut on the '72 Strat, put the frets back in place and done the complete setup, the 2020 Strat needed a good setup, when I went to collect my guitars I didn't believe it, I was really very surprised and satisfied, the guitars were perfect, the action wonderful , now the guitars are much easier to play, Kay has shown competence and passion for her work, thanks again for the good job done.

Kay is an incredibly talented engineer and his work is better than anything I've experienced in London. He is meticulous and has a great eye for detail. He set up my Taylor and found some bowing that was caused by a different engineer and fixed it completely. He also set up my Tele Deluxe and installed some pickups and the thing absolutely sings. Highly recommended!
T. M.
Markay is a lovely guy and a highly skilled engineer who takes great care over his work. He took time to talk through my specific requirements for setting up each guitar.
My Gibson SG and Taylor acoustic sound and play better than they did when new. He even resurrected my Mex Telecaster which was a wreck after decades of abuse from me and my bandmates.
I expected to wait weeks for such fine work to be completed but Markay had the guitars back to me within 72 hours which is frankly incredible. I'm already planning to take more gear to him for repair and set up.
