From now on, my go-to for all music-related pursuits! Beautiful service and charming shop🥰 🎶 🎹 the lady want far and above to get my daughter her first metronome🧡 Highly recommend!

Most elective selection of quirky and rare guitars I have ever seen in one place all excellently set up and presented. Great place. Also excellent repair service.

Great place. Bought my last 2 guitars from curvy sounds. A true gem in north east music.

Curvy Sounds worked wonders on my ten year old guitar, and got it sounding beautiful once more. Highly recommended

Great atmosphere in this tucked away music shop. The owners are friendly and helpful. There's a varying selection of instruments that has included some rare pieces from time to time in the guitar/bass section. One of the co-owners is also the in-store instrument technician and is amazing when it comes to repairs and set-ups. He's helped me on a number of occasions with issues that I've needed fixed right before a tour.

Dropped my first guitar in for a setup and couldn't be happier with the work. Really friendly and attentive, and no request was a problem. Top shop. If you need work on your guitar, go here :)
Edit 20/02/2020
Took my second guitar in for a setup. Andrew and Jessie couldn't be more helpful. Top service again and a guitar that plays absolutely amazingly

I am extremely grateful that places like this still exist. A small shop hiding many treasures. Guitars, basses, amps, pedals, and much more. They also do all manner of adjustments and repairs for a very reasonable fee. They did some excellent work on a modified resonator for me a while back. I'll definitely be going there again.

Thank you for helping us with the sale of our guitar. Your care, trustful advice and efficiency are greatly appreciated. We would certainly recommend your shop to others.

Broken Guitar
I broke the neck of my guitar and thought it was unfix-able, however i brought it into Curvy Sounds and got quoted a very reasonable price, I also asked for it to be fixed quick and within 2 days it was sorted. Service was professional but very warm and friendly and I would definitely come back. Extremely happy with the service I received.

As a novice guitar player, I have found this a friendly and helpful store. Andrew is knowledgeable about the work he does and has meticulously repaired two of my electric guitars and serviced another. Highly recommended.

Perhaps the most wonderful music shop i have ever been too. I can spend hours talking and playing and it feels like hope. The advice is great and depth of knowledge never ending. What a charming little place, i am now a frequent visitor and life long customer. This is how music shops should be..

I have just had my second guitar set up here and I am very impressed by the service and quality of work done, both these play like dreams now and are a real pleasure to play.
Andrew has a genuine love of guitars and is very knowledgable but modest about it.
Cheers curvy sounds!
Also I had an excellent job on my Avon les Paul copy neck which was a bit chewed up and rough, and last but not least, I bought a stunning second hand Parsons semi accoustic, which needed a new scratch plate which Andrew made, and a good job too! It’s small brilliant shops like this which keep me coming back for more!
Cheers Andrew and Jess

Absolutely lovely place. Warmly greeted by the owner and helped me with understanding the newly bought violin. Definitely recommended to visit the place.

Absolutely spot on !
Had two of my Bass Guitars fixed by Andrew Mills who is top notch at what he does and a top bloke.
The first thing that strikes you about the place is the laid back and friendly atmosphere and it kind of has that "Tattoo Parlour" feel to the place, Where you can see Andrew working on the instruments in the middle section of the shop.
If they ever renamed the place they should call it "Hotel California Sounds" because "You Can Check-Out Anytime You Like, But You Can Never Leave !"

Great music shop. Something for everyone, and stock that is a little different to what is on offer at other music shops. Jess and Andrew are lovely people too, very welcoming and friendly.

Superb service, with help choosing the right instruments for our needs and budget. Kids guitar and ukulele arrived promptly and safely in the post.

Simply wonderful - it's that elusive guitar shop where you can get your guitar properly fettled and feel completely at home without any hassle or music shop attitude.
There's also a fascinating stock of guitars that can coax even the most reluctant wallet to open....

Proper music shop. Great service by Andrew, who has dressed my ukulele fretboard to perfection at a fair price. It now plays like butter. Just wish I found this shop before I bought my first uke.

Had an issue with my pickups and pots, took it down to Curvy Sounds and within a few hours I had the guitar back and working perfectly for a very reasonable price. Great work.

Fantastic service, great little collection of guitars with some unusual little treasures. Shame the shop isn't bigger so they could stock more but highly recommended.

I have played the guitar for the last 25 years, and I have always enjoyed that special pang when I enter a guitar shop, the rows of guitars on the wall, each with a story to tell. My eyes pour over the names on the headstocks, my mind deciding whether or not it can produce another excuse to buy something wanted, but not needed.
Newcastle has always had its fair share of big guitar shops each crammed with hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of wood, yet somehow they have started to appeal to my musical senses much less. The wonder has gone and I am more bored by the endless rows of Fender retro offerings, created without love, and the shop assistants who can't really be bothered with me. In the words of BB King, "The thrill has gone, the thrill has gone away."
Enter Curvy Sounds,a blast from the past that has rekindled my love of guitar shops, a place that speaks to the 15 year old me, wide eyed, looking for musical treasure.
Curvy Sounds is run by Andrew Mills, the guitar whisperer, a man with an uncanny ability to spot a gem, bring it back to life and offer it for sale at a price that I often think is simply too cheap. Each guitar has been selected for a reason and set up to perfection. You will find guitars you have never heard of, but that will put a great big smile across your face. As well as vintage guitars, there is always a selection of new guitars. I discovered the Vintage brand. Put your guitar snobbery aside; it's an utter gem, I just love it, yet it was half the price of the big name equivalent.
Curvy Sounds also offers the best set-up in town, full stop. If you want, but can't justify, a new guitar, you might find it cheaper to simply get your ageing axe set up properly, and fall in love with it all over again. I have done that on several occasions now. I was going to sell my strat; now I can't bear to part with it, it's my favourite electric guitar.
Other instruments are for sale and you are free to browse with no hard sell. Or Soft Cell.
Go there!

Andrew and Jess at Curvy Sounds are two of the sweetest humans you could meet, not only are they super knowledgeable about the stuff they fix and sell but they always make time to check in with you and have wonderful anecdotes and pearls of wisdom .I always leave there with a sense of joy and we'll being.I bought a fab wee guitar from them and all I said was "I am a 3 chord wonder type of gal" and Andrew said "ok so nothing too fancy but you can play around the camp fire sort of thing?" He sourced the perfect one .And whilst having a chat about aches and pains we bought a pot of magic cream (CBD). So get yaselves along for good craic, amazing value, and picking up good vibrations .

The BEST music shop ever!!! - Alternatively, the worst ever, run by two of the most evil people in the world, if you "just want to look around" or "just want a _____ " (whatever . . . strings, etc.)
I am designing special "Curvy Sounds Blinkers" that will enable me to walk straight to the counter and say, "I just want some strings!" - and then walk out with just some strings.
Also, special "Curvy Sounds Earplugs" so I cannot hear the friendly, welcoming voices of the evil couple who run the place. They even gave me a bar of Montezuma chocolate yesterday - they will stop at nothing to convince you they are not wicked beyond belief!!!
Apart from the amazing range of stock for a small shop, including many unusual and quite stunning second-hand instruments, they have ordered in extra stock, like special strings, when I have asked if they have them.
Andrew is full of good advice and is usually working on something in the "repairs" area behind the till in the middle of the shop. One of the pleasures if you pop in frequently is the joy of seeing something first as old, filthy, unloved and unplayable and then transformed by your next visit into a thing of beauty to hear and behold!
My main interest is in ukuleles and I have been seduced there by a wonderful old banjolele and an unusual old baritone, the first baritone I have picked up that I actually liked. More than liked! Enough to actually buy it. Why was it so lovely? Andrew had chosen some non-standard strings that succeeded in making a cheap Baritone sound not plunky and dull, as I think they usually do, into something that sang and rang and was beautiful to play!
You can also blame Curvy Sounds for the fact that I now play the banjo. Did I go in looking for one? Of course not! Then there was the beautiful Vintage Viator Parlour Guitar - they have got another one in, so keep your eyes closed! As for the electric guitars. I don't play electric guitar so I thought I was safe with those. Until yesterday. Now I play electric guitar too - dammit!!! It would take too long to list all the other bits and bobs acquired from time to time from the selection of "world music" instruments.
You have been warned!!! If you want to be ignored, patronised or sold a dud by people who haven't a clue what they are talking about - don't go to Curvy Sounds!!! Otherwise, do go to Curvy Sounds!!!
