j. k.This shop is very good in terms of pretty much every genre except kpop currently which is a light disappointment. However, I do realise that this is straight after Christmas which may be the reason that this has happened. Until recently it has been stocked pretty well, I think the way the rating could be increased is to keep a stock of some old albums of popular groups and throw in some girl group albums.

M. R.Downloads and streaming have clearly killed off the physical media market leaving high street survivors like HMV high and dry. Or maybe not? On my recent visit to the store I've been calling in to for more than 25 years, at various addresses, I was pleasantly surprised. The vinyl section has vastly grown and was filled with contemporary and classic discs of all genres. Staff were friendly and helpful and the prices weren't insane. Hopefully the vinyl revival will keep a well loved brand alive for a while yet. Given that they were on the brink 12 months ago hopefully they can reposition themselves and keep the breast alive. No classical LPs though 🤓

M. W.This is pretty much the only big DVD, CD, Viny and pop merchandise store in Newcastle now, so it's just as well it's a good one. I regularly spend a few hours in this shop as it is well stocked and I usually find something to buy. They have good deals on from time to time and so I buy then. The staff are friendly and helpful. The only downside to this business is the background music which is at times just simply satanic. It's heavy metal garbage and it's loud, rebellious and aggressive. I cannot focus or concentrate so well when they play this head-banging music and often leave the shop earlier than I would. The staff shouldn't be allowed to just put on what they want and ignore paying customers as some of them have terrible musical tastes. Do they imagine this is good for business? Business people never seem to learn, even with market research and surveys they constantly do counter productive things. They're closing down many of their stores at the moment. I've given HMV 4 stars, but if they didn't play the satanic music I'd have given it 5 stars.
A. U.I absolutely love this HMV. I always pop in whenever I'm in town to check out their vinyl collection. Their upstairs has just been done out and all the vinyl is very easy to sift through and find. I hope this store doesnt end up closing as I find some amazing records in here.

G. L.Arguably one of the few remaining stores of any kind in Eldon Square that you’d visit for pleasure alone, rather than because you have an urgent need for a particular item.
The vinyl racks have been refreshed and expanded lately, although some of the prices have also gone up at an alarming rate over the past year.
But there are still some good deals to be had, the range is unrivalled for a physical music or entertainment store in Newcastle, it’s a good place to pick up essentials like vinyl cleaning kits and sleeves, and they certainly seem to be getting the ‘experience’ side of things right in this store, with the events that sometimes take place here.
The future always seems difficult to predict for HMV these days, but in the meantime, it’s a store that absolutely has its place.
G. H.Lots of great items available for purchase, including some quite old/retro albums, shows and films that you don't often find elsewhere. There's also a lot of merchandise and clothing available. I've always been able to find what I want in the store for a reasonable price, apart from some CDs by the more niche artists I listen to.
My only concern with this store in Eldon Square is that the staff are quite dismissive and can be rude. My most recent visit, a security tag was left on one of the DVDs I had purchased and I had to go back to the till to have it removed. Receipt in hand, I stood patiently at the side until someone was free to quickly speak to about it, but before I could explain a thing, I was just shouted at to join the queue and turned away from. Even when I quickly shouted back and explained the situation, the box was practically thrown at the detagging machine, and I actually noticed when I got home that the inner disk tray had broken, when it hadn't made such a rattling noise when I picked it up. As I didn't notice this breakage until I was wrapping the box (as the DVD was my mother's Christmas present) and had to remove the cellophane to check it out, I've ended up having to give it to her anyway and apologise that it's broken and not sealed, as I wanted to open it to see what was wrong.
Not very happy about this incident and I hope there won't be others like it in future... 😕😥 It's a real shame as the store itself has an amazing range.

H. C.Staff very helpful. Both with product information and service. Layout of store organised and adequate. I politely refused points card. This is a minor thing that I think is throughout the industry that I wish all stores would stop. If I wanted a points card I would ask for one.

While the grouns floor mainly has movies, series and some merch, I mainly come here for the second floor. The second floor offers a variety of music and even some interesting books. All for a good price.

A. L.A really wide ranging selection of items from which you can physically browse. The high street needs shops of this quality. Staff are excellent. I travel 20 miles to visit a store like this.

Could have probably mitigated sales losses by branching out more into Music Tech (like, for example, Richer Sounds) to tempt a more, niche market but opted to continue to sell CDs and DVDs along with cheap audio products at the bottom end of the market.

J. T.Brilliant day out for anyone from one to ninety-nine. The Flying Scotsmen was a bit extra added attraction. Disabled access and toilets, baby changing facilities, and a cafe all available. Best of all at this time of year it is a free attraction.
