Having been stuck in a rut with my playing, for several years, I needed help. Every time I picked up the guitar, I had no idea what to play. I was desperate to be able to express how I felt, through the instrument, but no clue how to do it. So far I've only taken one lesson with Mike, but will definitely be seeing him for more. In one lesson he was able to restore my confidence in the instrument, and I actually started to think, yes I can get to where I want to be with my playing. He also made me see that I can have fun playing the guitar. Something I haven't felt in a long time. After years of learning from online resources, I firmly believe there is no substitute for one on one tuition. I'm really excited to continue my learning path, and get it on the right track, with a great teacher.

Mike has been teaching me for around 4 years now, I started playing the guitar at 8 or 9 years old then stopped and wanted to start again in my 30’s. Mike teaches in a fun and positive way, he takes your strengths and enhances with them whilst subtly working on your weaknesses. I have been learning the Guitar for less than a year and I feel Mike has taught me so much in a short space of time. As well as learning songs that I enjoy he has taught me various techniques and skills that have given me the ability to go and learn other songs on my own. I've been taught by Mike for the past 9 months or so. I've known him for a few years though via World Class Music. Mike is a top bloke who always has time for you, his approach to teaching makes you feel like you are his only student. He works with your strengths to build confidence and covers weaker areas without you really knowing. The exercises he gives you enable you to progress by playing music you enjoy. On top of this Mike is a top notch musician and his passion gives you enthusiasm to want to be like him. After buying my guitar and amp in October 2016, I sought a guitar tutor, within a 25 mile radius of where I lived. Micheal ( Mike) Baugh was recommended by 3 different people.One being the shop where I bought my equipment, and another from an acquaintance who was already having lessons with Mike. Mike is a lovely man ,who immediately makes you feel comfortable. He has an immense knowledge of all facets of music. So my first lesson was in October 2016 when I was 59 years of age. Now at the age of 62 I am just finishing my first (105 minute) CD, and am in a new exciting rock band. I have also borrowed a lot of Mike's songwriting techniques. I have also benefited from joining a piano lesson to my guitar lesson.The piano is taught to me by Mike's wife Sabina.As I have a round trip of 44 miles having lessons together in the one location has been ideal. Mike and Sabina are not only exceptional tutors but good friends as well.

I've never had any ambition other than to be someone who plays guitar for enjoyment at home. But as someone who tried to teach myself as a teenager and failed the urge to finally learn, almost 30 years later, prompted a google search which led to Mike who fortunately lived pretty nearby. A quick email and mention of the bands I listen to and a lesson was booked. I did feel that maybe my age would be a hurdle but Mike has taught me over the last few years and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending him to anyone of any age wanting to learn. We are fortunate, that someone who clearly sold their soul to the devil to play guitar at some stage, has the patience to teach. He’s always willing to offer advice on any guitar related issue, advice and pointing you in the right direction with playing or technique, give you a trick of the trade if you are struggling with something and pointing out where you are going wrong. Regularly I think what he’s about to teach me is way above my standard. Yet Mike seems to know where you are in ability more than yourself and just how far to push you. Lessons are always enjoyable never a drag and I’ve always left feeling I’ve learnt something and improved. Which is what teaching should be about.

Hi, I would like to recommend Mike as a superb guitar teacher. I had lessons with Mike for over twelve months as my playing as become quite stale. Mike understood and, although I had been playing for many years, he addressed a simple playing technique immediately. He then went on to show me other techniques which went on to improve my overall guitar playing. I only stopped having lessons due to not being able to drive from Exeter to Plymouth. I would love to start seeing Mike for more lessons perhaps later this year. His lessons are fun and he does spend time to explain things as things progress. Above all Mike is a nice guy. Go on treat yourself to a lesson or three, you will not regret it.

Watching my son’s love for music grow and flourish over the last 4 years has been amazing. Age 8, my son desperately wanted to learn the guitar. Sadly, I was told by his music teacher then, that he couldn’t teach him ( I have a very chatty son 🤦‍♀️) After a quick search online we found Mike. During the first lesson with Mike, he’d taken the time to understand my son and figure out the type of music that interested him. If you want to play Guitar to any standard you'll have a hard time finding anyone more talented and enthusiastic than Mike. He is a brilliant teacher and his enthusiasm and passion for guitar is infectious (I am sure I now own more guitars due to Mike, at least that's the story I tell the wife). I have been seeing Mike once a month now for a few years and he has improved my playing in that time more than anyone else in the six years of previous learning guitar. He has a wonderful way of helping correct faults and setting you up for best success for YOU rather than some worn old template that every student might get - your getting effective bespoke sessions every time that somehow leave you buzzing with excitement to get home and practice (either that or he is drugging the coffee - either way its worth it!). SO go see Mike if your interested in becoming the best you can be at guitar - hes helped me no end and I have no rhythm and sausage's for fingers!

I had lessons with Mike for around a year or so and it's a shame that life got in the way as I was enjoying the lessons, which were always a challenge. Mike taught me gypsy music, strumming techniques as well as trying to sort out my unusual self-taught picking technique. Towards the end of my lessons I was trying to learn Strunz & Farah, who are exceptional guitarists. Mike knows all the music theory and is a friendly and welcoming person, he'll encourage you to further your playing ability and improve. I would certainly recommend Mike as a guitar teacher.

I came to Mike to specifically enhance my technique and phrasing in the genre of Jazz and Fusion guitar. Mike not only sets out for me sweet new licks, but encompasses whole range of techniques that you will find drastically improve the area you wanted to work on, and more! The structure of the lessons is nothing I've had before, there's no "lets do this song this week" then something completely different the next week. When I joined Mike I was working towards a Jazz/Popular Uni audition, to which I brought to Mike and recommended very musical ideas that I'm sure helped me into my first choice of Uni. Mike himself is extremely friendly and teaches in a very professional comfortable environment (not to mention his formidable musicality and technique as a player himself!). It's really hard to find a decent teacher in this part of the world but it just so happens that I've found one that not only teaches really well but has enough skill to rival the likes of Hutchings!

First time I saw Michael masterfully performing his composition “Times Past” on YouTube and it was a “love at first sound”. I fell in love with his unique playing style which is like a layer cake, combing multi-levels of styles, seasoned with technically impeccability and complex but at the same time easy to read solos. I was a little familiar with playing guitar by the moment, but suddenly I realized that I want to bring my modest level of playing till Michael’s. When I saw an information on the net that, in addition to a brilliant solo career, Michael is one of the most popular teachers in whole England, I was a little embarrassed, but, I took a chance and wrote him a personal message asking to take me as a student. To my considerable surprise, he replied to me that it would be a pleasure to help me in my preparation. I regularly contact him via Skype since January 2019 (I live in Germany myself) and I must say, that this is not just only a kind of music lessons for me, it’s also friendly conversations with unique stories from the life of Michael’s friends, who are rock stars themselves, and experience exchange, equipment improving tips, musical theory, and sharpening of my practical skills, and each time a lot of new and unique info related to different styles of playing. Those online classes removed the stiffness from my play style, opened my eyes and ears, and the most important, launched my composing abilities! And in this teaching method any amateur guitarist and even more experienced player will discover a perfect level of approach with all the soul and passion, which would made you fell in love with your guitar so, that your close ones would be even jealous. If I revoked your interest with my review, don’t waste your time, immediately contact with Michael, remember, places are limited and he has tight schedule, and remember, nothing is impossible if you really want to touch the wonderful world of guitar music under the guidance of a virtuoso teacher! Barely picked up a guitar before my lessons. Mike helped me through the basics and helped to build my confidence when I found it difficult to play in front of others. In the space of 10 short lessons, I was able to pick up a guitar and learn songs for myself. Highly recommended for any aspects of improvement on the guitar!!

I was really nervous about taking guitar lessons, I primarily taught myself some of the (very) basic chords and could play along with some songs but could not move forward in my playing. I met Mike for the first time and expected to be told to undo everything that I learned and to learn Incy Wincy Spider on one string for me to learn the basics, however the first part of our first lesson was talking about the sort of music I liked and wanted to play, this relaxed me no end as I now knew I would be learning what I wanted. Mike introduced me to some excellent bands and has an immediately accessible teaching style that enabled me greatly and made me look at my laying in a whole new light. Also the provision of tabs and a clear outlining of what to practice before the next learning made it easy to realise my own progression. I could not recommend his lessons enough, he has a vast range of playing styles and the knowledge of how to teach them to ANYONE! If you are considering to learn to play, call mike!

I have been having acoustic guitar lessons with Mike for the past 5 years after trying to teach myself, and failing miserably. I have come along way in that time, so much that when I decided to also learn the electric guitar it didn't take me long before I was playing songs by Jimi Hendrix! That's some hard playing! Mike makes lessons fun by teaching you songs that he knows you'll like, and there will be a purpose behind playing that song too, such as helping you to learn a certain playing technique, to help with your musicality, or to help you improve an area of playing that you struggle with. He'll push your strengths and help you improve your weaknesses so you can be a brilliant all round player. Also, he'll get you to do a bit of theory, which could result in you composing your own songs if that's what you aim to do. He'll help you get to where you want to be, and you'll succeed too if you put the work in!
