A fantastic hidden gem in the heart of Reading, that caters to every record collector's taste. I was in that shop last week and the staff allowed me to look through their collections as long as I wanted and in no time at all I had a pile of 80's singles for which they gave an excellent price for and they threw in a second hand 7" record box that I was interested in. I will definitely be returning back again soon. Thank you again !!!

Came in here last week on my travels with a couple of records I was looking to get rid of and was really pleased with the shop's selection and staff. I was offered a good price for the records, more than I was hoping to get! Lovely location and only a 2 minute walk from Reading Train Station. They opened early for me and I left with three vinyls for the princely sum of £18. I will definitely be back. Don't go to Reading without stopping in.

A fascinating treasure trove of vinyl, CD and box sets with always something to catch the eye including rare and highly collectible items. Well worth a visit tucked away in this arcade in Reading - I strongly recommend any music fan checks it out.

One of the best record shops you'll ever walk into. A great selection of vinyl and CDs, at good prices. The blokes who work there are always super-friendly, knowledgeable, and more than happy to engage in lengthy conversation, especially about music. They don't have an online store, not least due to the sheer volume of stuff they shift, but that means there's always tons of new stuff every time you visit. When I lived in Reading till the early 90s this was one off my regular haunts. Now that I live in Tokyo I don't get to visit quite so often, but every time I do it's a pleasure. Great to see it still there after all this time.

From the first phone call to the shaking of the hand goodbye they were brilliant, they were very open with everything and were great in ensuring I was ok, as it was not an easy thing to do. One of the best record stores around! I make sure to visit at least once a week to check the new arrivals and the "bargain bin". You can easily spend hours browsing vinyl and chatting with the friendly staff. If you love vinyl and you happen to be in Reading do yourself a favour and pay a visit to The Sound Machine, you won't regret it (your wallet might).

One of the best record shops around. I've been to many all over the UK and most of them are crap. The best thing about this record shop is it has plenty of original vinyl. What is the point in collecting reissue vinyl like so many solely deal in. I've found some absolute gems in this place!

Best 2nd hand record shop anywhere and I travel all over the country. Great service, Always new stock, 2nd hand records at reasonable prices always in great condition unless in the 3 for £10 section so you know what you are getting. Normal stock vinyl always cleaned to a high standard before sale.

Had the sad and demanding task of having to find a new home for my Dad's extensive collection of Classical records after he passed away and so contacted The Sound Machine after seeing their advert in Classic Rock magazine. A chap called Neal came all the way from St Albans to Stoke via Oldham ( !) to inspect the collection and was extremely knowledgeable, kind and helpful throughout our meeting; discussing music of all genres and even individual record labels and pressings before agreeing a price and taking care of over 400 records for me ! Would definitely do business with them again !
