Reviews of Motion
J.
Class venue worth traveling to for a good event. Friendly helpful staff and security. Large outdoor paved area with food and drink stalls and a stage. Side alley stage. Large indoor space with stage and balcony. The smoking area has a river going around it and is actually a nice space to chill.
L. W.
Really great nightclub space. We went for Planet Sink The Pink (future queer utopia) and loved how much everyone attending embraced the spirit of the night through clothing, glitter and attitude.
Staff were friendly and efficient and the Security checks at the entrance were processed quickly.
Although the interior has large, multi level, spaces due to the courtyard it is easy to reconnect with friends after spending time in different rooms.
Drinks are expensive but that wasn't a surprise and £3 sugar free Red bull was enough to see me through the night.
Can't wait to go back.
A. T.
Fantastic venue. First visit for me and my lad to see the Anjunadeep European tour.
Staff and security are super friendly, awesome crowd and probably one of the loudest and best sounding sound systems you could ever wish to hear. Brilliant :)
R. S.
Really nice outdoor area serving food and drink with two bars inside as well. Quick friendly service and a nice little venue.
B. I.
Such a good night out, definitely a "blast" the queues were pretty long to get in but they were very efficient on the door to move everybody along quickly. Amazing atmosphere and no problems whatsoever despite the enormous amount of people. Will be coming back for Halloween next year
A.
Amazing place. All the staff are lovely. Very quick and efficient getting in. Shout out to nice lady doing the cloakroom, I left my inhaler in my stuff and she let me get it without paying again.
Wish it was open even later than 6am lol. Can't wait to come back!!
D. S.
Great venue.
Security were friendly, doing their job but not aggressive like some...
Sound system packed a punch.
Facilities were clean, could possibly be a few more WCs but it was all good
A. O.
Great night out. Amazing light display. Several spaces with different music. Very chill smoking area by the lake. Bathrooms are bad but I've seen far worse. Several bars inside the place. There's an upstairs area behind the main dancefloor that you can use if the main bit gets too crowded or too sweaty.
A. D.
Fantastic nightclub with two rooms with a great lighting and sound setup. Went for Camelphat the once and Deadmau5 at the main room. Fantastic crowd as well
U.
Good venue, but they sold vip tickets then closed the vip area
L. P.
Always a great time here! Good location, good size, good speakers. Never had a problem with staff. Only thing I'd say is the that the locks on the girls toilets are either non existent or broken
M. S.
Brilliant as always, events are always too close to being over sold, especially post covid. Cost of drinks are mad. Buuuuut, just can't beat that motion sound.
a. s.
It's a live music and night club venue in Bristol, standard stuff. But they're missing a trick and should team up with a mortgage brokerage to do the loan you'll need to buy a round of drinks.
J. B.
A massive venue for clubbing nights and gig's.
There are many different rooms with different styles of music and DJs,I've been to a 90s rave night and a chemical brothers gig here and the sound system is amazing.
s. j.
Great venue, fantastic wheelchair access, as a disabled wheelchair user I find it quite difficult to navigate some gig venues across Bristol, but thankfully Motion is a fab venue with great wheelchair access, I can highly recommend this venue
S. S.
Massive venue, atmosphere was intense and the music was amazing
P. W.
Great venue for music events, travelled 3 hours to come here and wasn't disappointed
S. A.
One of my favourite venues. Not too big and not too small and has a good outside space and bar that you can escape to for a breather. The staff are really lovely too. Took my teenage daughter to a gig recently and she was really anxious - staff couldn't have been more understanding and helpful.
R. N.
Always a pretty good time, although these days the ticket prices are really high, I remember the days where £10 both rooms would be open and even the back area, now? One room usually open for gigs costing upward of £20. Obviously not enough to put me off going though! See ya at the next one.
S. S.
Great venue, great events, could do with an extra bar. Have had many an awesome unforgettable night in motion, one of my favourite venues.
P. J.
Visited Hospitality BBQ XXL there. I cannot tell much about the club itself as party was outdoor. But I liked the place, both venues - main on "parking lot" and another on terrace.
T. W.
this review is just for Luke who was working at the outside bar last night (31st), great bartender 10/10
B.
Venue itself is very good although tests for covid or vaccination wasn't checked which is disappointing but staff were great and well organized
D. A.
Surprisingly good venue! It's very big, with balconies so the vertically challenged amongst us have a chance of seeing the stage. There are plenty of toilets, which is unusual, and the security people are very efficient (poor guy who collapsed last night was getting help almost instantly). Only down sides are the small bar, so a long wait for (expensive) drinks, and the temperature when it's full - but the outside area is large so plenty of room for everyone to cool off. I'd definitely go back.
S. D.
A great rave venue in an industrial area in the centre of Bristol.
D. R.
Fantastic venue. Great sound. Nice big open space on one level so great views all round. Reasonable drinks and great security team.
M.
Good food but not a lot of drink choices. Good inside seating to keep cool.
D. C.
Incredible venue an absolutely gorgeous space. Drinks are reasonable for Bristol prices a pint costing £4.20 when I went. There's was also food outside and a outside toilet. Apparently there was an entrance time limit where you couldn't enter the venue after a certain time which may be something to check before coming.
A. W.
I have only been once so far, for a Deadmau5 concert. The concert was brilliant, the venue was good, the sound and light were excellent. It is however very pricy, both for entry, drinks and cloakroom (£5 for most drinks, beer cider, spirit mixer), and there is no air con in the main room which makes it very very hot, even in the winter. The toilet facilities are acceptable.
A. G.
Bastille were amazing. Venue excellent, even the queue to get in moved fast. I love these small venues, such a great evening. I hope Dan's mid range voice gets better soon. 👍
M.
Fun venue just by Temple Meads, they seem to have a lot of different concerts here. If an artist you know is playing you’ll be sure to like it; I came once to see DJ Shadow which was lacklustre due to his performance, but the lights, sound quality, and setup on stage was superb. More recently I came for a hard techno night which was much better, their smoking area was covered and there was both a place selling food and a bar outside. Drinks are expensive but what can you expect. Decent crowd but too many phones, that’s life though.
A. D.
I came here to see Sigrid live. The performance was amazing, but the venue was so cold.
J. C.
From raving outside next to the river in the smoking area to drum and bass whilst middle aged women cruise past on a barge (to which they obligingly join in!) to sweating it out on the balcony of a disused warehouse whilst a randomer shouts unintelligibly into your ear at 4am, Motion has it all.
One of the greatest venues in the country, with multiple rooms, stellar lineups, raves and day parties spanning an array of genres.
Long live Motion.
N. C.
Intresting music venue. It looked like a prison first so wasnt shaw I had the right place. Worth a visit as good bands and freindly staff.
C. C.
Really nice venue but I don't understand why security didn't allow me to bring in a pack of sealed chewing gum 🤷♂️
C. M.
Went here for my daughters first event and was a fab night.
My lass has mobility issues so we were seated in the accessible area right at the side of the stage in front of the fire exit. We had a perfect view of the stage. Chairs were provided on request.
The only downside was that trying to arrange this by email was impossible. Noone got back to me by email so I had to go down to the club the day before the event to arrange.
Really polite and helpful staff. Thanks for a great night
M. R.
Not too bad! Pretty much a warehouse so won't be to everyone's taste but is pretty sizeable and you get good angles of the stage pretty much wherever you are.
T. F. E.
Great venue...( We saw Sigrid..) beer, nice atmosphere and small enough place to get a good view/ move around.
A. C.
Amazing night! The queue moved quickly, security were friendly, multiple bars so didn't have to wait long to get a drink, toilets were decent enough, sound system was powerful, great visuals!
R. H.
This is really good, to be honest the actual music area was a bit small for the number of people.
The food on offer was decent though, and the sound setup was good. Lighting also good.
H. R.
Had one of the best rave experiences in Bristol here at motion. Be careful with friends who get too drunk though, quite possible for them to drown in the water body near the smoking zone.
M. J.
A rave in a big old warehouse. There's 3 side rooms. My favorite is the tunnel but there's also a squarer room and one in the skate park bit. The terrace is nice in the summer too. Loved going to Fantazia here
M. B.
Great experience. Security seemed a bit overkill though with a dog on the way in and guards shoving through the crowd.
J. T.
Awesome place for gigs and for club nights , Brian Jonestown massacre where amazing.
J. N.
Love having this venue on my doorstep (literally a few hundred metres away!). Brings something different and unique to the Bristol music scene making the city richer for it!
S. W.
Went here for a Microsoft Social Event. Amazing place, very spacious & easy to find!
R. S.
Went to brooklyn Zoo event here. It was lit Id definitely go again..
Rooms are good space... toilet facilities not bad tbf.
One security took sooo long on search the other queues was flying by. This was irritating customers. Besides that was a really good night.
K. H.
I felt very safe here, a little difficult to navigate yourself round, but there are ample toilets, huge dance floor for busting your moves and friendly staff if you need a hand.
L. T.
Went there for festival of the dead and it was absolutely brilliant. Ill be going again.
G. G.
Great venue with good vibes staff and security helpful and considerate First rate experience
T. M.
As far as clubs go, this really is up there at the top. Amazing atmosphere, usually a great crowd. Well serviced for facilities including a surprisingly good burger kitchen. Only complaint is just how long the queue usually is, so get in early, otherwise keep doing what you do Motion.
g. h.
Great sound system so much clarity 👌🏻
K. C. J.
Great venue, lovely staff and security, great music and sound..dropped a star as didn't respond to accessibility query, didn't check Covid pass / lateral flow status, ran out of hand soap and hand dryers in toilet not working with no hand towel alternative.
J.
Excellent venue, staff pretty good too with a common sense approach from security.
The sound system is excellent with a good acoustic layout.
Drinks a bit overpriced but to be expected. I didn't really explore the outdoor areas but looked good.
F. C.
Great venue. One of my favourites in Bristol. Despite many people being present on sell out nights, such as Hospitality, it never feels overcrowded. Could do with air conditioning though, which is why I gave it 4 stars.
W. F.
Motion use to be the don dada since they were voted #1 they went downhill. If you want to have a a good night out with some friends at a rave then DONT go to motion but if you want to go to a rave for soley the music then GO to motion as you get a good experience.
Strict security and one way systems just ruin the night
k. G.
Went to Goodgreef last night and was so impressed with the venue. Glad we didn't pay extra for vip (queue jump, separate bar and indoor toilets) as the weather was good and no queues at any of the bars. If it was raining the outside toilets wouldn't be too pleasant though! The main room has a proper arena feel and great light show, although room 2 was a bit small. Can't wait for our next visit!
T. H.
Great venue really nice range of different stages and acts. Had a great time here. Do not go to the bars outside if you want water though. They will not give you free water and will charge you . Without mentioning that you can get free water from many of the bars inside
P. S.
Place is good, atmosphere is crazy, just the queues to the bar's much to long 😉
R. K.
Never had a bad experience at Motion or Marble Factory. First time attending a gig at Marble Factory since the makeover and I for one am rather impressed. Acoustics and sound were brilliant. Glad to see that the venue have properly invested in their PA system. Also I'd like to point out that the new layout made for much more space than the old Marble Factory room which in turn made my wife's anxiety problems a little easier
B. C.
Came down from London for Marky and friends at the Marble Factory and was surprised at how good the venue was. The bar staff were friendly and had a good sense of humour and the vibe inside was great. One thing that sticks out in my memory were the bouncers upon entry. They were genuinely friendly, wished me a good night and you could tell they weren't there to abuse their power. Good job
S. D.
I visited here for a RAM Records night and was really impressed by the unique venue. It's definitely not as large as somewhere like Fabric, but it still felt quite spacious and never seemed cramped like Fabric often does, despite being quite busy. The outside areas are large and easy to get to if you need to cool down, and the staff were also quite friendly – or maybe they were amused at my astonishment that I could buy doubles for £6... It's my new favourite club!
C. M.
Great venue with a mix of DJ lineups and genres to suit all tastes! Excellent!!
C. M.
If you want an authentic rave, amazing sound system, hot sweaty dancefloor and warehouse vibes this is the place for you. So many good memories here and post covid it's just as good as ever!
t.
Great night but terrible layout and maze system to get to each room, having a silly one way system was the reason the group kept getting lost. Big old warehouse basically, very non club feel and minimal investment made to make this a club however my only night spent here on new years here was good fun
L. W.
A really diverse music venue which caters for a lot of different genres. Very industrial setting and it reminds me of some of the venue's I have been to in Berlin. Sound system is top notch and the staff are friendly and conscientious. Lots of local drinks available and reasonable value. Motion is easily accessible from Temple Meads and is undoubtedly one of the best live music venues in the SW and probably the UK.
H. W.
Awesome club with a huge main room and nice outside area. A great selection of djs raining through the genres of funk, disco, house, drum and base, garage and much more from similar perspectives. Prices for drinks are what to be expected in Bristol with a can of beer costing around £4. Strong security presence but not too much to feel intimidated. In the summer time here you can find many day time events happening so it's not purely an evening/late night venue. I would highly recommend making a visit here.
P. B.
I absolutely love this place. Best drum and bass venue in Bristol. Hands down!
A. C.
Best place in Bristol to have events, especially house music.
F. Z.
Been motion a few times and it's been good really good every time. One time we did have a bit of a sitch with the bouncers and my friend wasn't allowed in at around 10:30 because he was "too drunk" when he only had a can of beer and was actually the most sober one out of all of us, it seemed like they judged his drunkenness based on something they observed, like a small trip maybe? But they did allow him in about half an hour later as he said he'd wait until he's allowed back in as there's no reason he shouldn't be allowed in. Good place overall
S. B.
I love love love motion. I've been attending events here for years and have never once been disappointed. The staff and security are friendly. The drinks are reasonably priced and they have a really good variety of different drinks. My only suggestion would be to maybe think about selling desperados, it's a very popular drink, my favourite in fact. But as an establishment they will ultimately make the decision on what drinks they sell. Motion is my number 1 favourite place to rave in Bristol.
m. M.
The venue was stunning, it was located in a warehouse in Bristol, I was traveling from rome so I didn't know what to expect, I really liked the fact that the water was given for free and I found people who were there to party so in general good experience, the night was Alan fitzpatrick b2b skream we had fun. One thing that I didn't like tho was the drug dog at the entrance.
D. P.
super cool venue...loads of variety of music including some 'rare' acts that don't venture out of the m25 too often, as soon as you leave you wanna go back in...drinks a bit pricey and security are a bit too thorough but it is bristol so acceptable.
M. D.
Went to see Highly Suspect here and they were absolutely fantastic! The venue is a closed venue so you should expect the music to be very loud, so not good for those who are a bit noise sensitive (but I wouldn't expect you to be visiting an enclosed gig anyway).
J. U.
Great music, friendly crowd and a good time had by all!
S. C.
One of the best clubs for house music in the UK, sound system is great and the nights are fun. Likes of Elrow, B!tch Please and Cirqu Du Soul all put on great shows with an anamazkng crowd. Never seen any trouble here and everyone is friendly
M. W.
Fantastic underground, hipster, music venue based in old warehouse. Good sound, enough of fine bars around (but prices could be not so high!), Lotz of facilities. Upper Circle in perfect distance from the stage. Cool smoking area. Very polite security.
Minuses? Stairs - hazard when crowdy.
L. H.
Great venue but be ready to be consumed in moshpits.
S. E.
Brilliant venue, great sound system, toilets were clean with toilet paper all night! Drinks and food standard price
O. R.
A amazing club, a very different experience to what you may have before. The night depends on what you go to see, but it can be packed with all of the rooms open or it can be fairly quite with only one room open - either way it's an incredible experience and one definitely worth experiencing!!
T. R.
Excellent venue but no reason for the drinks to be so expensive
L. K.
Loud music, big crowd in the weekends. If you like a crazy night out and dance till 5 in the morning it is the place to go. Although when there's a lot of people the sweat is dripping off the ceilling 🙄 I wouldn't recommend wearing high heels girls.
H. H.
One of the best clubs in the UK, let alone the city. Terrified of what new housing developments in the area will do to the club.. it's inherently routed in the Bristol culture. If the culture dies, the city will too. SAVE MOTION <3
O. D.
The top large music venue in Bristol. Not only is there such a great variety of events, forward thinking production and amazing location - but the staff, security and medics are the best I’ve ever encounted at a venue. Definitely recommend to any party goers!
P. W.
Live music, dance and club venue in the area behind the train station. Been to a variety of gigs here from a full orchestral arrangement of Kraftwerk to banging live set fron Groove Armada. It's a no-nonsense venue that can handle a big crowd for a big night out.
L. H.
Hospitality was amazing!! Music was awesome and motion was the best venue for it. Staff were approachable and friendly, didn't see any dramas. Great great night, can't wait till the next one!
G. E.
Motion, another legendary Club in Bristol, especially for those into Dance Music and Raving :-)
It's pretty big for a Bristol venue, some large rooms and they recently put in a big balcony area with another bar on it (that must be about 6 bars in total) which is cool.
I've been to Run, Tokyo Dub, Hospitality and a bunch of others I can't remember the names of, those were mostly dance music nights, but as you'll see on their listings there are all kinds of genres featured there these days.
You can expect long queues if you don't get there early, the bouncers are civil but don't stand for any attitude, the bar staff are nice but usually rushed off their feet until the end of the night.
It's a cool place, if you want an epic night out, it's not bad at all for Bristol.
J. R.
Decent but kinda annoying idk like younguns vibes
R.
We went to a Hospital night rave and had amazing night! The place was brilliant for raving.
p. k.
The music brilliant the toilets well they are except able , but you need to speak to your food vendor 1 member of staff serving 2-300 music goers , a lot of money lost , but when eventually served food was good .
So if you advertise plenty of food vendors please at least be that way
M. P.
2nd time here, watched Gentleman's dub club and recently Leftfield. Great venue, plenty of bars although they get busy. Top notch sound system and seem to attract big names, so will no doubt be back soon.
M. W.
I give a 5*to the staff who were incredibly helpful throughout my visit.
E. H.
Have you really visited Bristol if you haven't visited motion?
M. R.
Amazing. Great music, drinks a bit expensive but not too bad, crowd made it with the huge mosh pits.
G. C.
Great venue, tap water available at the end of the bar for easy access too. Toilets are a bit grim but expected in a club. Definitely would recommend!
N. H.
Great venue with an inside and outside area. Several places to get drinks and had a pizza and tea and coffee van in the courtyard too. Very friendly toilet assistants with chuppa chip lollies for sale.
k. b.
Hospitality night dnb. Love this club it's rugged and big on base. Great door and security majority proper friendly. Nice touch with some handing out free water. It's big on space but main rooms get rammo adds to the atmosphere. If you like big grimey heavy baseline then dnb at motion is it. The crowd rock and usually no bad vibes to be had.
S. G.
Good place yet after paying £35 to get in I was in a no movement situation for 45 minutes then paid a door man £5 to get through a door we should be able to walk though. . Needs a good security group.. Could do with a customer relations course better manners needed
J. D.
Nice venue good lighting short queues free felt tips but you do still need ID
S.
Huge night club. I went here for 'lingo bingo's event and it was great. Can absolutely recommend.
J. h.
Awesome Location with Great music. It's just a hassle to get there. Entry was a little expensive at 25£. Live music was great. Light show was awesome. Prices for drinks where okayish, beer was 4£.
S. M.
Used to come here as a student about 5 years ago and love it. Went back recently and was really frustrated by the one way/queueing systems and lack of outdoor seating - where did all the furniture go from the back? Music was still great ofc and Motion still beats WHP and Fabric every time for me.
N. T.
Amazing venue for the Above and Beyond gig!
y. c.
Staff are mostly friendly, not massively, but aren't unfriendly... There should be more seating areas... Its very very unclean, they are over priced drinks like massively over priced... Eventually they did a tanker of water on a second bar to the main stage, which took some getting used to... It was over dense with people... And because of that was overly hot, the cloak room had a very friendly member of staff at, however its not a room it's just a rack in the corner of a dankly lit room near the second bar area, music was good, over all it was a mediocre experience made better by a few members of staff that were friendly
H. A.
Nice venue, professional staff, friendly staff, approachable staff, great for a laugh, great staff. Also there was a young coloured lady working at the bar, which I'm all for but my friend zappo didn't like at all so go slow. All in all great place, staff were OK
B. S.
The beer is overpriced as you'd expect but there is no choice other than cans of st Miguel at £4.20 each. Great venue apart from this and staff were super friendly and polite
E. H.
£4 for a pint of soft drink?!
L. H.
It's sick. But this is a male review. The doing lids finally so hopefully it'll be a club for everyone soon!
P. H.
Great venue , in the middle of nowhere, so eat before u go ...
All good for a sly Chong !
g. h.
Saw Gary Numan at Motion.Decent venue ,good sound. However entry queues were unacceptably lengthy - 30 mins to get in as each ticket had to be inspected.Management need to invest in some handheld Barcode scanners.Get people in through the door quicker and get them spending money at the bar.
P. B.
Typical wharehouse style club. Cool sound system, great dj's, walkable distance to train station. Friendly staff, no fuss security and friendly crowd. Would visit again. Good night out in Bristol for techno.
L. W.
Great venue for live music, love it!
M. P.
Great line ups and atmosphere. Would visit more often if I lived closer
V. C.
Love Motion, my favourite club in Bristol. I have been there twice, for Run and Just Jack, which is an outstanding house night, it was absolutely rammed, but the atmosphere was incredible! It is so refreshing to go clubbing in Bristol because you never experience attitude like in some clubs in London. I will definitely return!
V. O.
Great place. Can be very over packed at some events. Security on the whole great but like all sec they can be iffy. Depends very much on the event and attached licence conditions. Tip No. 1 PUT IT IN YR PANTS !!
V. S.
Absolutely class place. Do recommend going at least once in your life to a DnB event here. Didn't take any photos of the place but here's some dudes absolutely loving it there.
B. P.
Motion is not only the best club in Bristol but it's the best by quite a wide margin, the sound system quality and venue itself really is top notch and I've always had a really good time there.
M. H.
Great venue.
Good atmosphere.
A. C.
Fun and interesting night out or venue for events. Remember to take a jacket/coat, if it's in winter... nothing says unprepared like the girls rolling up in mini skirts to realise the party is in a warehouse...
T. O.
Ok venue for a night club.. They call it a rave festival experience but it can't ever be in side a warehouse.. Rave festivals are free and out side...
L. W.
Motion is one of the best clubbing venues in Bristol. There's a wide range of events here from Drum and Bass to Techno to Funk. Really good vibe here and it can get quite busy. The environment of Motion is quite unique - set in a Skate Park!
C. O.
Motion is a fantastic club/live music venue. It's a very large venue and seems to have a one way system which can be a bit annoying as it means you spend a lot of the night queueing if it is busy.
J. L. G. “. u.
Drum and bass was amazing worked it for the first time yesterday cant fault it. Customers were very respectful of the security great time had definitely recommended it
Would work here again anytime
B. P.
1st time, great venue, staff were excellent

The only place of its kind in Bristol. Just make sure you go to the right venue as there are two sides running separate djs. Drinks are cheap, the only downside is it's location, which isn't really close to anywhere else you might have been on a night out. The closest place for drinks before is probably old market.

Brilliant night out. Went there for festival of the dead. Will be going again

Music good 50% of the time and 80% of the time you won't care. Many people on party enhancers. Best to decide in advance if this is your kind of scene. If so, could be a mental night.

Class. Ignore the bad reviews. If you’re used to the raving thing then it was popping here. Down from London and enjoyed every second of the DJ Markey party! Turned up tired af and left buzzing!

Amazing music, 4 music halls plus beer and cider for £ 4 per piece. Free water available in the bar for guests. Just superrrrrr l place for groups.

So put on some pretty good bands perhaps mainly aimed at over 30s

The place is very big and it's got very good access from town or surrounding areas, being close to the railway station.
Several rooms for different music, fast food outside, etc.

Loved the rawness of this nightclub. Above and beyond was ok but not their best event. Oliver Smith on the other hand made the night. Loved it.

Great venue for any live music. Multiple rooms, both small and large, lots of reasonably priced bars and large outdoor areas.

Such a good experience, would highly recommend but just be prepared for very expensive drinks 😂

Great venue with some great acts. There was no drama at all, just loads of people all there for the same thing - great music and a great night.
