Relaxed atmosphere, quick service, good menu. I thoroughly enjoyed a generously sized portion of grilled eel (pictured) served with plentiful rice, and a selection of sashimi fish. No complaints.

Great Japanese! We were enjoying it so much I forgot to take a photo until we were nearly done. The salmon sashimi was perfect. The maki rolls were really nice. Portions are good size servings and are good value. Would come here again.

Obento was the first Japanese restaurant that I ever ate in, 15 years ago. Upon returning to Bristol I was hesitant to return, based on a few negative reviews. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised when I came for a friend’s party in one of the upstairs karaoke rooms. The staff were professional and attentive, and the food that I had – una don (grilled eel rice), mango fry roll (deep fried fish sushi roll wrapped with mango) and miso soup – was good. Not sure how authentic the mango sushi is but it was still tasty; the unagi was cooked well and had the correct flavour, and the soup hit the spot. The karaoke room was great value – £150 for 3 hours of karaoke and £150 worth of food and drink. So if you spend £150 on food and drink then basically you get the karaoke for free. You could easily fit 10 people in that room, making it very reasonably priced. We had a great time there and I’d love to return for more karaoke and food.

This is the second time. I have been to Obento, once before the pandemic and this time. The staff here are always friendly and welcoming and willing to go the extra mile to make sure your experience is top-notch. While it can be a little expensive I found the portion sizes to be more than large enough and of high enough quality to justify the cost. I will definitely be going back again next time I'm in the city centre.

Kindly accommodated for a large group of rather late in the night (did book day before). Large portion size for price, good quality food, tasted really good. The tempura had slightly too much batter but the sauce was good. Miso soup and rice was good quality too.

The food was really very good. We had the deluxe sushi selection and the vegetable bento - both were delicious with good quality ingredients. It can be a little on the pricey side, depending on your choice, but the quality seems suitable for the cost. The staff were helpful and efficient, but could have been friendlier. The place itself is a little tired - not to the point where it felt unhygienic, but it could do with some sprucing up.

The best Dynamite roll and Tempura I've had in a long time is all I'm vouching for in this place. And big portions too. I hadn't been to this place in over 5 years, but had fond memories of it. Went for a bank holiday lunch and we were the only people there, but I believe it's usually busy-ish. The food was much better than I remember and obviously service was quick, therefore 5 stars. The place does need a bit of redecoration, which is a sign for me that care for the food may be a bit inconsistent if the owner does not look after the upkeep of the place. If you have never been here before, I'd say definitely give it a try and you might fall in love with the place and become a regular. The hot food is really nice. As long as you're not a connoisseur, you'll find the sushi to be ok. I don't think it's an authentic Japanese chef or owner (where is nowadays?) but that doesn't mean that it can't do good food.

The sushi was average at best, but on the better side of the scale for Bristol city centre. The fish tastes reasonably fresh, but the selection is quite limited. The tamagoyaki nigiri tasted frozen premade, as did the amaebi, but in fairness this is usually due to the extra skill required to prepare these properly. The wakame salad, while enjoyable tasted prepackaged and extra MSG had been added, but remember wakame already has natural MSG. Overall ok food and ok price but leaves me to continue my search for good sushi nearby

I like this restaurant! They have high quality food, their menu is nice, The chef in that spot is a professional, I like very much eating all their dishes. The food is consistently of high class, the service towards the clients is good. I go often to this place and I not even once was unsatisfied. I recommend this place.

Fantastic cuisine, cooked extremely well and incredibly tasty. My only criticism, I was part of a large party (8) and all our meals came out at sporadic times meaning some of us had finish eating when others had just reviewed their meals. I accredited this to the fact that they were likely cooking to order and sending out straight away to stop things going cold. Wouldn't stop me going back again though as we all enjoyed our meals.

I have been here 10+ times and I love Japanese food, I think the dishes are authentic and delicious (based on my experiences living and travelling in Asia). I hear people complain about the staff a lot and whilst they are not particularly attentive, I don't think they are bad - I hate being interrupted by waitresses all the time anyway. They have a very wide selection of food, including many vegetarian options. Highly recommended

Obento has been one of my favourite restaurants for years now. Consistently good Japanese food, and always a pleasant dining atmosphere. The tables are spacious, so it’s a good place to come with a group. I tend to opt for the set meals, which are very good value.

Obento is a little Japanese restaurant in the Bristol centre. I have tried the restaurants sushi a number of times and it was always good. I have also tried the chicken katsu and it was normal (not bad but nothing special). The noodles are okay as well. In general the place is good with quick service and normal prices for Japanese food.

The food was good but the environment was more like a cheap takeaway.. Dirty floor, toilets were broken and the upstairs fairly grubby. The house merlot was passable, but pricey, I thought the sake and national drinks looked interesting but once again, expensive. Service was attentive.... Bit hit and miss. Not sure why, but the quality of dishes is always different whenever I go. Food is great on a good day and mediocre on an off day. They do have a good selections of dishes though, with a full menu online to check it out beforehand. Also do takeaway/delivery for those times you don't want to leave the house.

Probably more a 3.5 but 3 would be harsh. Definitely one of my preferred Sushi restaurants in Bristol. Until recently I hadn't visited for years but was glad to see my reliable favourites still on the menu and still good. There are several positives I should mention. The Sushi Rolls are pretty good especially the soft shell crab and the Dynamite (salmon and avocado). The Miso soup is good and sashimi portions nice too. Bento Boxes are also reasonable value and the warm rice dishes tasty and comforting. Service is fine but it can get a bit cold in the winter, unless both restaurants doors are closed.

Very simple place which underwhelms with the decor and atmosphere, but actually serves really nice food and is a great, decent value place for an informal meal. I feel like I should give it s lower rating, but I do actually like the unpretentiousness. Plus the service is quick!

Food was great, great varity and well presented with Japanese imported drinks which was a nice touch, staff ate there dinner while we are ours which is not a problem but then became rude when we refused to pay the optional service charge even though the menu said the service charge for 6 people+ and our party was 4. Due to them having their breaks when we ate we felt it was not warrented to pay it. Otherwise lovely place to go shame it ruined it for us.

I've been here four or five times now. I've had the sashimi, sushi, ramen, wet noodles and it's been delicious. Went yesterday however and ordered the Ichiban Yaki Soba - that's the fried noodles. Was disappointed to find it was identical to a generic Chinese takeaway - you know, browny-yellow, slightly greasy, just heated up before serving - and it cost £9.50. I will come back as all my other experiences here have been very good, but watch out for the 'fried' section as you risk a rip-off.

What a great little restaurant. We where the only ones in there. The food was good and we where happy until we got the bill which included a loveley little service charge. One of my absolute hates, I will happily knock off 2 stars for this. Why are we turning into America where we feel it is compulsory to tip, they should get their wages and tips are extra.

I like the food here ( it's maybe not the most amazing but the lunch prices are good). The restaurant itself lacks atmosphere and service can be on the slower side. I wouldn't come here on a date as it just isn't that nice to sit in but overall quite good if you want some Japanese food.

Dishonest pricing Obento have a sign outside saying half-price sushi takeaway. After you have ordered your food, they present you with a full price bill and explain that this doesn't apply on. -Friday -Saturday -Sunday -Bank Holidays -Some other days The big sign outside says nothing at all about exclusions.

I didn't know until a friend of mine booked it but there is a karaoke upstairs in this Japanese reataurant if you fancy some singing while you drink. When I went, we were a group of like 15 and we fit in the room. I think if you consume around 110 in drinks the room is free other case I think you have to pay the difference bit I'm not sure about that last thing. Too much fun and Ashani.

The food here is actually pretty good. What the place needs is a bit of a management overhaul.We ordered 3 set meals and there was a 15 minute gap between the first persons meal arriving and the final one showing up. In summary, probably somewhere to go for lunch but not an evening meal.
