Reviews of St George's Bristol
Wonderful venue at the heart of Bristol cultural life. Famous for its outstanding acoustics, as often heard on BBC Radio Three. We were glad to be back there last night for the welcome return of Exultate Choir and Bristol Ensemble performing their always-uplifting annual Christmas celebration.
Fantastic venue, probably my favourite in Bristol. The acoustic is magical, they offer a wide variety of music (although not really popular music, more like folk, jazz and classical) and it has such a welcoming feel. So great to be back inside this building again! The refurbishment a couple of years ago really opens the place up and there's lots of info about the history.
Great lunchtime concerts! Fantastic opportunity to use your lunch break to see amazing music - all within an hour
Wonderful performance from Red Carousel at St George's. Their music transcends any expectations & takes you into a wonderful space. The sound quality in the Glass Studio was excellent. St George's Hospitality Package was good value. It was our first concert since Covid-19. We were all wearing masks & it felt very safe with plenty of ventilation & socially-distanced seating. The evening was perfect. Looking forward to coming back to St George's soon.
Attended a concert at this wonderful venue on Tuesday evening to watch my son who was playing with Bournemouth Symphony members in a string quartet for the first half and sextet for the second half. Fabulous music and truly inspirational.
I had to leave before the end of the concert in order to catch a certain train home.
I have to say a special thankyou to the young House Manager who arranged a taxi to take me to the station in good time.
A perfect end to the day.
Lovely venue. Food a bit skimpy for the price . Soup tasted nice but was luke warm and small portion with stale bread -:one slice only. Think the catering has gone down since lockdown but venue and music fabulous.
It's a perfect venue for many types of music. I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. There should be more seating in the cafe, though. I had to stand to eat/drink.
Great acoustics! Cafe & bar serve very good food & beer too 😊👍
Fabulous accoustic! Love the venue with super recent upgrade. Staff brilliant.
Abel and Manchester collective truly amazing!
Incredible venue, beautiful architecture, lovely atmosphere. Feels really classy and fun! It's a great support system to the local music schools - a real community of music lovers!
Superb concert hall. Brilliant acoustic, but very uncomfortable seating. Very expensive glass of wine beforehand
What a fabulous building with really friendly staff.
Went to see Reverend Richard Coles being interviewed. What a fabulous chap 😊
Just great to be at a live concert again. Love the new bar area, great addition to a beautiful building.
The renovation of this has been sympathically carried out. It is now a venue for music of all genres conveniently located off Park Street.
The ground floor coffee shop had a good selection of light food and drinks. I attended a business function in this area so cannot cannot comment on the rest of the building. I would return to go to a concert here at another time.
Great venue, don't sit along the side gallery upstairs though as the view of the stage is limited. Rear gallery is best for view and great sound. The new Bar area is modern Brutalist modern Architecture and the design really blends well with the classical architecture of the of the original. Well done Mr / Miss / Mrs .... Architect! and I don't say that often. The range of gigs, events and performances is really good, well worth a punt on something you don't know.
First and foremost St George's probably has the best acoustics of any of the hundreds (thousands?) of venues I've visited for live music. This is its outstanding selling point. The biggest problem is that some of the seating to the sides and in the balcony offers restricted visibility, so you really need to book early, and ideally get a seat anywhere in the middle section of the stalls. The staff seem friendly and helpful. The new bar area is functional, but rather uninspiring.
St. George's has superb acoustics & sightlines, & is a great venue in which to enjoy live music.
The bar area is a welcome addition to this fine old building, & I'm happy to recommend St. George's as a place to visit.
Nice venue, good choice however I thought a little pricey.
Sublime setting for shows, great bar too.
Nice venue, relatively recently refurbished. Light, bright and clean inside. 4 stars as the seats were a bit hard and not very comfortable for long periods of sitting. Otherwise great.
A lovely venue for small performances. I ordered some drinks for Intermission time when booking the tickets and they were all ready in a room. We only needed to find our name that's written out by the drink. Saved so much hustle to queue up at the bar.
Been there many times brilliant venue good acoustic, good Wine, cheers
This very special former church makes for a truly great venue, set as it is in a historic area of this great city, surrounded by beautiful Georgian streets.
A relatively small theatre converted from an old chuch but very good for viewing the stage and performers with excellent acoustics. The theatre also has very good additional facilities. Highly recommended.
Saw LPOTL here. Great atmosphere. Beautiful venue. Sound quality could use a little work.
Wonderful range of concerts available. Excellent facilities before and during concerts. Many tastes of music catered for.
This venue deserves to be more widely known and supported. Top class acts, lovely venue. Not the easiest to find but so worth it. I went to see a Storyteller and a Folk Singer weave an amazing show together on the subject of Slavery.
The venue is a beautiful building, and it's easy to see the stage and hear the music. Saw Cara Dillon last night, such a treat
We have been here several times for different concerts, magical place, acoustics are amazing 👏
Lovely old converted chapel. However, the seats are old pews and not the most comfortable of seating. The bar is also a bit pricey. Fab acoustics though.
St George's is a lovely friendly venue.
Clare Teal was superb and great at making the audience feel like they were all her friends.
Great venue and friendly staff. Haven't eaten in cafe so can't comment on that.
Beautiful venue, excellent bar, great staff. Sound was excellent. Great facilities.
Terrific venue. Great acoustics, really nice atmosphere, excellent facilities and very helpful and cheerful staff.
Enjoyed Elvis ,lovely building oh and lovely wine
Superb performance of Beethoven's septate, poor observation of covid rules: many poeple without masks, no vaccination check, seating not spread out to utelise large numbers of empty seats
The revamp of this popular venue is wonderful. It makes the entire evening more enjoyable, although the actual auditorium has changed very little. A medium sized space with great acoustics, the only problem is limited visibility of the stage from some of the side seats.
Wonderful acoustics. Perfect customer service.
Super helpful staff, huge space and a nice bar.
Surprisingly good acoustics, great venue for live music
Have listened to many concerts here - recently Sam Lee- whose voice was so mesmerising. The acoustics of the hall really enhanced the experience!
Great looking venue. Small and personal enough to be good but not over crowded. Will be back very soon!
The acoustics in this venue are outstanding. It's just a shame that the stage is blocked from view from some seats in the side sections of the balcony. I've given it 4 stars because they have no parking and the issue with the balcony seats. However if you sit in the stalls or the rear balcony you will not be disappointed!
Great venue for musical events - acoustics amazing
Nice, small but spacious venue for music. Great acoustics and great view from all seats.
There is accessibility for those in wheelchairs or with other mobility aids. Facilities are good from the bar and food area to rest rooms.
Situated in a beautiful part of Bristol you can plan your day around shopping to going for food before the evenings event. There is not really good parking in the immediate vicinity other than disabled parking. However, there is a good car park not 10 minutes walk away.
Well been here before and after its recent upgrade. The new bar is quite big and open. Less quaint as before but caters for more. Had one bar for cash only so beware. The concert hall is great. Seats aren't too comfortable. Balcony seats, esp ones nearer stage often have obscured view so careful when purchasing. Wheelchair access may be awkward. Sound in great esp for natural, non-amplified sound. Real mix of music from electronics to ethnic to classical and more though edging toward a more mellower crowd. Love the place for offering an alternative in music and performance and fills a niche of its own.
Been going to this venue since the 90s. It has been continually improving in all that time. Everything about it is well managed, including the latest extension annex building, which has allowed new side doors for easier and safer access and exit as well as a new cafe-bar. Staff are always pleasant, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Programmes are always varied and interesting. Acoustics are top class. It really doesn't get any better than this.
I really like this place, great service, friendly staff, great location, very clean and great shows.
Great venue - elegant church now concert hall with good acoustics and visibility, and comfortable seats, plus exciting brand new extension giving lots of light and airy space for bar and milling around. Love the original brick vaults under the body of the church but they were scarily crowded before the extension was built.
Lovely light, airy venue
The theatre is great, but the new cafe is outstanding! We took the family there (some up from London and the others down from Hereford) for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. We're all 'foodies' and all left very impressed and satisfied with [especially] the food, which was well priced, the service, new decor, and it's just off Park Street and stones throw from town. Another must visit and a fine addition to Bristol's increasingly outstanding food landscape. We will be back!
An outstanding concert venue in a classical church, not always a perfect view because of the architecture, but always brilliant sound and the programme is a great mix of high quality performers from folk through jazz and international to early music and classical. Thoroughly recommend.
Lovely acoustics. Social distancing managed well. Very good bar. Tonight's concert from the Piatti quartet was excellent!
Brilliant music venue, stunning sound, nicely stocked bar.
I had a pleasant night. The location is beautiful and the events great.
What a wonderful venue ! A beautiful classical building with a New extension giving first class facilities for the customer , including efficient bar staff . A superb evening with the Spooky Men's Chorale , amplification unnecessary due to the gorgeous acoustic in the auditorium . Go there !
Excellent venue with good facilities, friendly and helpful staff, and today's performance was very good for the intended audience, children. Also miles better for disabled accessibility than before the alterations. Highly recommended.
This is a historic venue just off Park Street in Bristol. The lively and creative district of the University. A venue that has been modernised in a very tasteful and helpful way. I went to a film talk as part of the Wildfest week about resulting in Scotland. Good vision and acoustics from my middle seats. Upstairs centre was better than upstairs side seats or in the circle. Good and friendly reception. Exceptionally quick at the booking office for ticket collection. A nice lively bar with a range of drinks including bottled beer which you care allowed to take into the theatre. Recommend. A great night out.
City centre but in a relatively quiet side street. Multi-storey car parking within a quarter of a mile. Good menu including vegetarian and vegan choices. Friendly service. Good toilets, plenty of cubicles in the ladies, clean and suitably stocked.
Good Old St George! Great venue; great night with 'Roberto' Plant's Saving Grace. Living history, with the whole pageant illustrated before your very eyes - both band and building! Fabulous variety of music programmed in for the coming season. Slayed the dragon, then built this place. Not bad for a young Palestinian lad.
Brilliant music venue!
A brilliant music venue very close to the city centre. The ambience is great, equally as great as the sound, and the intimacy spreads from the stage to the backmost seats. Quality!
Great venue for classical music. It is being redeveloped at the moment so there's lots of steps. A very good bar which also serves coffee for pre, post and interval drinks. The sound quality in the auditorium is very good
Really great venue. Was here for a kids Christmas concert. We really enjoyed it. We parked in the same street. We got there 30 mins before the concert started and there were lots of spaces free. Cost £4 to park. Would recommend.
Fantastic venue with great music playing. You're pretty much guaranteed a good view regardless of where you sit given the size of the venue. Great staff, good bar, fun times!
Saw the incredible Joan As Policewoman supported by Fyfe Dangerfield here last night. The acoustics were so good, it's a very beautiful hall, well managed with a great atmosphere. I'll be keeping an eye out for future events as I'd like to go back soon.
I think this venue is really cool, beautiful building, good bar.... we went to watch a film here... but I'm knocking a star off because the seats were the most uncomfortable things ever!!! Lol maybe im getting old but I really couldn't get comfortable at all. Other than that, the place was great :)
Wonderful experience, beautiful venue, talented performers and incredible acoustics and sound. What more can I say? First time I've been and can't wait to go again.
Not sure about the music venue but the restaurant is a very enjoyable experience. Lovely setting modern but light and interesting. Food is incredible and affordable. Can't wait to eat there again!
It is a lovely old church. It is not the perfect music venue as most of the balcony seats are on the side so you have to crane your neck to view the stage. The seats are a bit hard as well. So all in all not a very comfortable evening
Just watched Welcome to Night Vale. Lovely venue, we were ground level towards the back but had a good view as did most seats I reckon. Quick bar, moderately comfy seats, 10/10 would visit again
Spotlessly clean, new decor, wonderful loos, & no loud club music being played when one is trying to enjoy a conversation.
Just popped in with a friend for a cuppa & a really nice one it was. None of this tea with a hint of dried oregano leaves steeped in water drained from mount Vesuvius. Will definitely be going again.
Fantastic place for a intimate style concert
An interesting venue but it needs to sort out its evening bar and refreshment offering. Does it do evening food or not? As for the venue side of things doors open to the street made it too cold and the seating itself needs to be of a much higher standard.
Didn't know what to expect to be honest, but what a lovely venue, took me by surprise! A nice atmosphere, full of character and plenty of room. We were there for a family wedding and it's perfect for that! Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Oh how amazing was the live with Harry and Chris tonight. They bring so much fun and joy into life. They're a flippin 10!
Lovely building, went for a graduation celebration drink and canapes. Service was perfect and the building easy to get around. The front grass was in the sunshine so a great place for a reception.
Gorgeous venue with great acoustics. Pity that not all the programmed events have an outstanding quality as the place deserves.
I attended a delicious concert with Jordi Savall that l will not forget in a long time, though.
It is a good venue with a variety of music shows. My visit was to the new Glass House for a poetry event. This is a great place but partly spoiled by noise from the downstairs bar.
One of Bristols best venues, the acoustics are awsome & with it's new layout it seems to have more space for you to just chill & have a drink before you gig. Very Special room!! 👌🏾
Excellent music venue, acoustics very good
Great venue with special acoustics as well
The cafe must be Bristol's best kept secret. Delicious food at good prices in a lovely setting only a stone's throw from Park Street. I had rosti with tomatoes, it looked stunning and tasted even better and for less than £10. This is a real gem and a special treat at every day prices.
Very interesting venue, with a multitude of worthwhile musical events, some quite exotic. Always worth checking what's on the program, you never know what you'll find...
Famous for its very good acoustics.
Lovely historic building, always interesting music, friendly staff, love the new foyer and facilities that they've added at the side. Great venue for interesting performances!
Great little venue with wonderful acoustics and surprisingly spacious seats. Bar area is also a good social space.
Wonderful venue, especially now it has a new 'foyer' area. As always the acoustics are amazing. 1st class venue
Was quite surprised by this gem! You don't realise from the outside, but the foyer is very modern and spacious and the hall inside is nice and big. Nice clean toilets, and space for buggy storage which was helpful.
Excellent acoustics, friendly staff, good beer. Only downside is the slightly uncomfortable pews! One of my favourite venues in Bristol though.
Beautiful venue in a lovely location with great acoustics. On street parking and within a few minutes of Bristol town center. Not much room in the seating.
Beautiful classical/world/jazz music venue, comfortable seats, mobility access lifts and a large bar in a new building alongside. The bar is not cheap, but when are they ever?
Excellent concert hall with amazing acoustics. Wide variety of classical, world, folk and jazz music. Only let down by poor accessibility, but they are working on it.
Unfortunately the sound was dreadful, too loud and boomy so we could only understand half of what was said. A significant age factor though as young people didn't seem to have the problem. That aside it is a nice venue.
Superb music venue (18th century former church) offering a variety of genres from classical through to jazz and contemporary in an intimate setting. Refurbished relatively recently with bar area and offering pre-concert food.
Fabulous acoustics in an intimate setting. Friendly helpful staff. Winning all over
Great venue and a great turnout for the Fantasy Orchestra 😉
Really smart venue in a nice area. Saw an acoustoc show there and the sound was great, next to no reverb to mess with the sound. Parked in Trenchard street car park and had an easy walk over.
Good sized venue and very accessible with polite and helpful staff. Usual problems at the interval when busy! Overall well done St George's.
Good venue for an assortment of events in Bristol, and a wide music variety. Good cafe and waiting area in basement.
Some of the seats (balcony and sides) have poor view.
The theatre is great, but the new cafe is outstanding! We took the family there (some up from London and the others down from Hereford) for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. We're all 'foodies' and all left very impressed and …

Been here a number of times. Concert hall is an old Methodist church with a modern reception bar area. Good bands. I will ne back

Good sized venue and very accessible with polite and helpful staff. Usual problems at the interval when busy! Overall well done St George's.
Great venue. Intimate and eclectic. Now with a new bar and multiple access. Points. Popular and attracts a high quality set of artists.
Fantastic venue. Beautiful building and has historic details to look at. Great place for music.
A most enjoyable evening with Chris Smither - singing American folk and country. He's a brilliant song writer, and storyteller. St George's is the perfect venue for this style of music.
Had my xmas party here. I loved the venue. The staff were very professional. All fire regulations met. A really nice place to visit.
Great venue we went for the gin and rum festival and it was great
Really nice venue, small enough to feel 'intimate' with the performers but large enough to attract quality entertainers.
Staff are very friendly & helpful
:-)
Great arts venue, recently renovated. A place with a difference. The cafe and bar is great too. They have eco biodegradable cups as well.
Elvis Costello evening great
Superb venue for musical events. Great acoustics, friendly staff and lovely atmospheric location. Highly recommended!
Been here a number of times. Concert hall is an old Methodist church with a modern reception bar area. Good bands. I will ne back
Fab day celebrating Keith Toppet's life and music. So much love and energy
Brilliant concert for all ages including Peter and the Wolf. Really engaged our grandchildren, 5 & 6.
The best venue anywhere. Perfect acoustics, spiritual vibe, and comfortable seats. And, of course, wonderful artists like Eric Bibb
Lovely falafel lunch with coffee.
To St George's to hear the sublime Tallis Scholars singing 16th century polyphony, with some Poulenc and Messiaen too. Astounding and radiant. It seemed effortless, those top C's floating above the dissonances, resolving into harmonies. Wow.
Great venue for all manner of gigs from spoken word to string quartet. Lovely, intimate space.
Staff are unaware of hidden disabilities forgot to have gate open for me to park despite asking day before. Was questioned on why I needed to use a lift. Not all mobility issues are visible!
Brilliant venue. Friendly helpful staff, plenty of leg room. Good disabled access ring box office for details.
An intimate venue (a former church) with beautiful acoustics. They have a wide ranging programme of classical, Jazz and folk music
Went here for a rum and gin festival. Great venue.
Phenomenal music venue. Saw Devin Townsend here. The acoustics were incredible
Great arts venue, recently renovated. A place with a difference. The cafe and bar is great too. They have eco biodegradable cups as well.
New entrance/bar very good, lots more room now. The concert hall is still the same and as good as ever

Excellent venue. Fabulous music. Bar staff not so hot.

Great venue for all manner of gigs from spoken word to string quartet. Lovely, intimate space.
An intimate venue (a former church) with beautiful acoustics. They have a wide ranging programme of classical, Jazz and folk music
For the occasion of Christmas carols, for the first time I was able to visit St. George,
A great Anglican church used for occasions for musical and choral events ..
Superb and organized in a professional way.
Nice venue and friendly helpful staff.
Lovely building, good mix of old and new architecture, acoustics seemed good for performances.
Great place to watch bands the new building works is brilliant cafe and bar very good. Last night lucy rose was brilliant
Beautiful sound and building
Good venue for seated concert. Too long a wait to get a drink at the poorly stocked bar.
It's a beautifully designed melding together of C18th and C21st architecture into an excellent, atmospheric arts venue.
New entrance/bar very good, lots more room now. The concert hall is still the same and as good as ever
Concert was fantastic (Ella centenary) venue still in transition so queuing require to walk around. Can't wait to see it complete.
Beautiful venue
Easy to walk from multistorey car park
Good acoustics
Cafe on site
Refurbishment makes the theatre far more welcoming with really well thought our disability access.
World class musical events, staff really welcome the audiences and take care of us, a venue that Bristol is justly proud of.
Excellent venue. Fabulous music. Bar staff not so hot.
Fantastic venue for music... Mostly classical but also world music and other artistic ventures happening.
A converted church and so not a comfortable place to sit. Interrupted view of the stage from many seats. Excellent staff.
Has a great selection of contemporary and classical music, friendly staff, good value ticket prices and lovely acoustics
Fabulous new space to the side of the building, a real oasis in the busy café culture of Bristol. Give it a try in this lovely weather
Great concert venue with fantastic acoustic and lovely new lobby and bar
It always was a great venue, even better niw after the recent refurbishment. Much better than the awful Colston Hall.
Great hall woth excellent views from gallery
Great acoustics sbit of s maze around the main hall. But great location just below Clifton
Cool venue, good sound and well layed out so could always see the stage
Great new bar. Excellent acoustics. Comfortable. Phenomenal performance.
Absolutely stunning venue, great acoustics too
Amazing venue, still in the throes of a comprehensive revamp which has left the exterior a bit of a building site
Fantastic venue with a lovely contemporary new extension with bar and access to the auditorium
Marvellous venue! Impressive building, lovely restaurant/cafe, wonderful atmosphere and fantastic music/arts programme
Food is priced for a captive audience. It's good and the staff are great but it's not worth the 25% premium in my opinion.
The best acoustics I've heard anywhere. A brilliant performance space with done amazing performances!
Disappointed so few people bothering to wear a mask while moving around.
Brilliant venue and now with a cool new cafe with quality food and coffee.
Beautiful venue, awesome atmosphere, wonderful concerts.....
Awesome venue. Great acoustics. Highly recommended.
Not a venue I would have thought of as a music venue however it was fine if a little warm
Great music venue with a cafe bar
Phenomenal music venue. Saw Devin Townsend here. The acoustics were incredible
Small, intamate venue. You are very close to the acts. The atmosphere is great.

Amazing acoustics, lovely venue in a beautiful building
Fabulous atmospheric venue, great artist, good bar
Gorgeous venue, looking forward to seeing what the refurbishment brings.
A lovely quiet place to stop in a busy post of town. Had a great brunch!
Was disappointed with this venue. My ticket was costly and my view was nearly completely restricted, I was not warned of this when purchasing my ticket.
Great place friendly atmosphere, bit more air conditioning in warm weather.
