Reviews of SWX
D. O. S.
Braving the mire and sheer cess-pit feel of SWX (I'm not actually going to criticise the building - the list of issues this venue needs to correct would probably exceed the word limit of this review) we were first treated to an unorthodox Coolock (literally - since the boy hails from the NW of Dublin) spinning a very particular style of Irish spoken word (Kate Tempest and others have undoubtedly given these deserving acts a bit of a leg-up recently). Topping up for post-act refreshments (the price of two drinks exceeding the cost of the ticket entry fee has always meant "pre-drinks" will forever ensure these venues never sell as much beer as the supermarkets) we had our punk sound standards reset somewhat - I'm old enough to remember Sham 69 thrashing out Hurry Up Harry in the heyday of punk and we just accepted the wall of immediate tinnitus - no, these boys (Egyptian Blue) need a touch more tuning up in the vocal arena but they can play their guitars just like ringing a bell (sorry...) and their front man (Andy) has a menacing look that reminds me of old Ian Curtis when he was in the zone... Not stopping for another brew (sorry SWX - you're not getting away with this - when you stop drinking because the bogs are so bad you don't want to go in them again, you know you're going to be losing punters; and based on the fact that my gig days started in the punk era that's saying something) Murder Capital leapt into their bruising but heartfelt set. The band turn the screw slowly, cleverly reeling their fans in, working towards the second half crescendo of Don't Cling To Life and finally Feeling Fades (the feat of getting the whole audience to sit down for its opening was in fact a modern pied Piper story given the state of the floor - again SWX...). The Bristol crowd were definitely more compliant than the Glasgow one on Monday though, Mr McGovern managed On Twisted Ground without a single vocal interrupt and only a couple of shushes (probably because the beer doesn't cost so much so the Bristol crowd were likely more sober). Anyhow, after an aborted and finally successful crowd surf, they drew to an end and didn't encore - not totally necessary since in my humble opinion the set was immense. He blew kisses and we reciprocated in our hearts (my missus said "he was singing to me and it made me cry"). As we walked out, our feet audibly detaching and squelchingly reconnecting with the slowly-condensed 10,000 pints of lager-glue-coated polymer-twist-piled carpet that surely must be designed in the same way that the sole of DMs are to resist industrial chemical attack, we wondered if Bristol's wealth is too detached from its cultural epicentres and if this was reason enough for the current social rift. As one punk rocker once said, "if the kids are united, we will never be divided...". The talent is here, Bristol just needs to put its pound in and build some venues more worthy of the acts they attract and not just settle for already exhausted night club refits. Yes I've given it 5 stars but that's just so I don't damn 3 of the finest acts I've seen for a while now...

So cool, modern and huge club. I was here at the Machine Gun Kelly's concert and it was awesome! When you are in Bristol you must visit it. Drinks are fine and good affordable.
M. S.
==Notes== Neat mid-sized venue in the city centre. Went to watch a gig there in Dec-2019.
==Positives== Set up well to watch bands, and captured good atmosphere. The gig I watched was awesome.
==Negatives== Surliest staff of any place I'd been for a long time: slow, rude and aggressive. If that attitude was a one-off, I don't know why it would happen that night because the crowd was wonderfully warm and happy. Small selection of drinks on tap but non appealed to me..
C. T.
Great venue, really like the openness and the sound was very good. Bit annoying that you can hear the club music from upstairs, but you forget about that once things get going!
W. T.
Great venue for a gig. It's big enough to make a great atmosphere but you're close enough to the band to feel really part of it. The two bars make getting a drink nice and quick although the cloak room queue was huge and took ages.
J. T.
Cool studenty club with multiple bars. Good DJ with great speakers, and a big open space. Very studenty and popular amongst the university crowd
r. r.
Great venue, nicely refurbished for the live music scene, very good sound system, they are pulling in some good quality bands/acts, well recommended
a. h.
Really good sized venue, good viewing positions, reasonable priced drinks.
L. M.
A fantastic venue to see live music. The sound was excellent and not too overpowering. Toilets and facilities were clean and bar staff were polite.
S. W.
Went to see 808 state and loved it. The venue has changed a lot since I last went when it was just a nightclub. The only downside was the cost of the drinks but that's the same as everywhere else I suppose.
N. K.
On the outside, it looks fairly run of the mill, but inside it's dope af. Seen many shows here and it's always a good time.
M. G.
Great gig place, one of the biggest in Bristol but not the best for getting a good space
D.
Good venue, but sound is not balanced across whole venue
D. B.
Great venue. Easy to get to, great views of the stage and brilliant acoustics. Will definitely be going again.
O. H.
Good venue, aweosme staff, easily accessible, close car parking available, great bands.
A. F.
Great club. Been there to see rock band and loved the feel of the place. Great bars, nice staff, good sound.
i. c.
ok like the music and strippers daughters hen do drag act good
S. L.
An absolutely brilliant venue. Great sound and an awesome view of the performer from anywhere. Top stuff!
E. A.
Great venue, space for everyone & really lovely staff and kind bouncers
M. W.
Excellent venue for live music - clear sound, great views of bands, intimate, good parking nearby. What more can you ask for?
M. D. R.
The sound was very good! The venue was quite crowded but despite that we got served very quickly at the bar. It is not a small venue but not a too big one either, can probably fit a few hundreds (probably more when the balcony is open)
All of the staff and security were helpulf and nice, the toilets were cleaner than expected and not crowded either even at the end of the show!
M. M.
Great place for gigs loved the club..
J. S.
Band and gig aside let’s just talk about the venue. (The band was awesome)
On the surface it looks great. Nice aesthetic and cool vibe. Toilets, as in most music venues are pretty nasty. Sticky floor everywhere not just the loos.
We stood on the raised side edges which offer a better view, which was cool but these inhibit sound quality. You don’t get any sense of stereo and it seems as though the sound passes you by.
The Staff were friendly and the service was quick.
Drink prices were high but no different from any other venues.
J. S.
Favourite music venue!! Incredible sound which really packs a punch for metal gigs in particular, don't think much of the club nights but they are the best venue for musical sound in and around Bristol.
J.
Went to a gig here and the place is really great for it, lighting space, visuals and aesthetic. It was a heavier gig though and a few drinks spilled on the floor and it made it very slippery and hard to mosh on. Would recommend not allowing drinks at the front in gigs. Other than that it was perfect.
F. G.
Good night out, big place.
c. m.
Only visited as a gig venue but the sound each time has been incredible - one of the best places in Bristol on that front. Booze lets the place down as the beer is mostly not great but I guess that's because it's a club rather than a live venue.
R. K.
Fantastic venue, went for the abba night during freshers. Bouncers are very friendly and there are very few issues, instantly felt at home in the club. dance floor is big, smokers has a certain "charm" to it. Always a great night out.
T. W.
I go to a lot of music gigs up and down the country but this was my first visit to SWX. Had a great night and in comparison to similar size venues this place is a fantastic place for live music. Good layout of bar, cloakroom and toilets. Stage is high enough to provide unobstructed view from wherever you stand. I will be back next time Im in Bristol for sure.
B. W.
Great venue for a spontaneous night out! I cannot really say what it is like, as I cannot remember.... (Very good prices on drinks) however from the stories I am told, I must of being enjoying myself. The pain in my head is also suggesting that I went on a major bender, so I would suggest this club to anyone who wants to do the same.
D. D.
Great venue, small but great atmosphere. 2 bars, ATM and large toilets.
A. W.
the shape of the room was a little strange for live music but I was good where I was stood in terms of my view. had some rowdy people who did ruin the experience slightly but that's at no fault of the actual venue. the vodka and lemonade I bought was very weak it must have only been a trickle of the stuff which is a shame. couldn't find any toilets either and staff members available was lacking. had a good time altogether and would come back for more live music.
P. S.
Is it the music or the venue that makes a great night? Fortunately both were fab. Quick service at the bar, crowded standing but as I'm over 6 foot I did a good job of pushing through the crowd, foam machine added to it! Only complaint is that because of the music venue/club split the music ends too early. Saw Dan and Shay by the way... awesome!
R. M.
Nice venue for a gig, good acoustics, good view of the stage throughout the venue.
But, no exaggeration, it took 15 mins to put our coats in the cloakroom and there was only around 10 ppl in the queue ahead of us. Just one very stressed girl behind the desk taking the coats and the whole process seemed to be very long and complicated.
B. K.
Great small venue for an intimate gig
T. S.
Great music, lots of variety, always a great place to go on a night out!
Rang up the venue the morning after a night out to enquire about something, and Sophie on the phone was super lovely and helpful!
(4 star because I think we can all agree the drinks are a bit pricey)
N. C.
decent concert venue, there were a couple of sour apples but overall the vibe was good and the people were nice. alcohol was a bit pricey and the vodka tasted watered down not gonna lie. couldn't find the toilets. staff were nice. 👍
V. O.
A recently refurbished club. Had some great evenings watching drag acts, dance bands and rock oriented bands too. A bit new and a little sterile but a good club / venue all the same. Security and staff friendly. Quite a few steps to get up and in the venue and don't know if there is an alternative entrance for those with difficulties.
R. S.
Nice sized music venue. Good sound, good views of stage. Toilets could do with refreshing. Major downside is the stairs and long delays getting out after show.
V. A.
OK venue, only issues are the 10pm cerfuw for live music and also can be oversold on events meaning there's not much room to move. Personally had a good time and stage is very admirable for the size of floor which goes a long way to making it good.
R. O.
The venue was awesome. I just saw The Midnight there and I'd go back in a heartbeat. The only thing stopping it getting 5 stars is the toilets. They definitely need more regular work.
J. H.
Great venue. Not been there before, but decent capacity for Bristol, with cracking sound and atmosphere. Centrally located and friendly staff. A lot of rock and metal tours starting to pick up on this as the goto venue for 1000+ fans.
B. W.
It was my 1st visit to watch ' You me at six. A really good atmosphere and reasonably priced. Best venue that I've been to watch the amazing band. Bring on more gigs like that and I'm definitely in.
d. p.
Nice venue, great gig. Only thing that let us down was there was only one cash point and it was out of service. Bar was reluctant to give cash back and so we spent less on merch and booze as a result.
O. T.
Great music, great atmosphere. Smoke machines, lights, very loud music and lots of people but thus very hot and crowded. Negatives: Drinks expensive and entry was £10 on the door. Bouncers very unsympathetic as I was having an emergency and they refused to help at all. Lots of stairs which are a bit tricky when drunk haha. Probably won't be going again, but was a fun experience :)
L. T.
Great venue great staff and a great sound the only negative is there is no other access than stairs. If this place had a lift it would get 5 stars. Sadly wheelchair users have the indignity of being carried upstairs! Others with mobility limitations have to struggle with the stairs.
J. P.
Good 3 room club. The blueprint is well done with the acoustics in room two being my favourite. A nice music variety club , I enjoyed my time and would go back again. Unfortunately the price is a little steep when you consider other clubs in the area so that is a little off putting.
D. B.
Went down for the recent Sleep show, staff and bouncers were really helpful making sure my wife (a wheelchair user) was able to get in and out of the venue safely and get a good view of the gig. Good stuff.
J. T.
Decent sized venue for live music, also do club nights too for those interested. Besides the fact the corridor to the gents is kinda narrow SWX does alright for what it is. Drinks can be a bit pricey, but I guess that's expected for an event night.
G. D.
Great venue for gigs. Saw The Interruptors here a few nights ago. Easy to get to from the coach station if you're heading in from out of town. Nice layout inside with two bars and a cloakroom
M. C.
Fantastic club but the bouncers need to act a bit more. Had an incident where someone wanted to start a fight with my group of friends, but when I got a bouncer to help they just ignored us and refused to intervene. Club has great music, good DJ choice but needs more proactive security
N. P.
A great venue, multi level with a large main floor, good visibility. Bars are wide so queues not too bad. Toilets OK but a bit dark.
A. C.
Great to see Theory of a Deadman here. I like the venue for its size but not for its lights - they are on the wall behind the band shining light in your face. I could not see Tyler's face on the stage properly hehe even though he was standing right in front of me. No lights from the back walls lighting up the stage... Gave it 4 stars because we were able to watch a really good band in a Bristol venue, but the lights need fixing!
D. T.
Cheap n fun loaded! But bit too crowded! Best to pop-in during festive nights
N. H.
A small venue but great atmosphere and not overcrowded saw kissing dynamite, amranthe and powerwolf
C. B.
Overpriced drinks and won't let you take any inside. Small arena but it was a good night when I went and would visit again. The merch desk is very small so be in first to grt what you want if you are definitely buying!
D. H.
Saw August Burns Red and Erra here. A lovely venue in an excellent location. Clearly a well maintained place and the stage was elevated so the bands were clearly visible wherever you stood. My first visit and I would be sure to return, if they have more bands with the calibre of ABR and Erra.
J. P.
So far of all the venues I've been to in Bristol this one has the best sound. Saw The Midnight here and it was lush. Floor isn't encrusted with what feels like Spiderman's semen either.
E. B.
Amazing place, be sure to bring ear plugs coz the sound can make u deaf. No cap
A.
The venue were really nice, security wasn't too harsh but was still in place and the tech/stage team got stuff done really swiftly. Overall, it was a great night.
J. M.
Saturday nights it's amazing. Have 3 awesome rooms. The main stage is lighted and has strobe lights. Great DJ's for house and jungle/DnB. Big variety of bars to get drinks. Dress code is anything but chavy. Drinks are okay priced. Security does random checks which can be irritating but is standard
C. J.
The venue was ok. The warm up act could not be heard over people talking and poor sound management. The drinks were over priced. Has the potential to be an excellent live venue
m. b.
Great venue in great city. Great band(Cake) and great audience. Good acoustics. Efficient, pleasant bar staff. Good views of stage possible for small people.
S. H.
Can of red stripe & half a Becks cost £7.20, staff moving drinks around opening noisy doors during quiet gig. Not best but not the worst. A lot cooler than many gigs - coat on throughout.
S. L.
Gig we went to see was great although we missed the first 20 minutes as no accurate timings on website or social media. Then had to leave the club after the gig and would have to pay for reentry, bit steep considering the cost of the gig. That all being taken into account I would really have to think about revisiting.
L. M.
An evening with Pineapple Thief. Great venue.
L. H.
I'm a regular visitor to The Syndicate, two rooms mean a great variety of music throughout the night. Bar service was quick and efficient. No problems with the door staff since I've been going over the last two years ! Would definitely recommend, great night out !
P. S.
Nice place. Not enough little tables and chairs around the sides of the stage. Dance floor. Pouring drinks from cans a big problem for the staff for some reason. Good night though. Sweltering in there.
P. N.
As a place to see bands it's ok but heavily let down by awful beer at the bar and a positively dangerous narrow exit which turns into a huge crush at the end of a gig. And definitely not wheelchair friendly.
J. P.
Great venue, one of the few that are actually well air conditioned. The bar at night is a bit understaffed if there is a gig on but I'm sure that's natural.
J. R.
So I first visited SWX back when it was Syndicate and I have to admit I wasn't sure that what was then a nightclub could become a live music venue. But I was wrong and happily surprised. By effectively levelling the dance floor and plonking a great big stage in the centre, it benefits from the layout of its previous life providing plenty of space and the sound is good. A great addition to the live music venues in Bristol.
J. J.
Two dance floors, several bars, plenty of people and frequent events. I like it. They often have known DJs playing (tickets necessary) and even when they don't the music is still good and let's face it, when your drunk, who cares.
s. w.
Syndicate is by far my favourite club in Bristol! My first time was about 2 years ago, and i've been coming back ever since! The club has excellent music, Great drinks prices to suit the student budget and if you're out for a big occasion then you've got it all in VIP!. I would recommend this highly to anyone visiting Bristol, or even living in the area if you haven't already! Great club, friendly staff, great music.. cant go wrong really!
l.
Incredible venue. The perfect size for the acts that play with friendly, understanding staff. Bar tenders were pouring out water before you even ask!
H. W.
Nice venue lots of space big car park nearby
D. D.
Alright little venue not posh not pretty but as a music venue did what it was supposed to.
P. S.
Great live venue, but does suffer a bit from sound leaking from the other stages when more than one event on. Make sure you go see something loud and it's not a problem!
C. W.
Great venue for a music gig. Loved seeing John Newman, it was cosy and more personal than a big concert. We really enjoyed it.
J. P.
Saw the Lemon Heads here, fantastic gig great sound, although too loud when it was just the DJ.
Terrible beer selection, no ales at all, just the worst types of lager - Heineken, Red Stripe etc.
A. S.
Lovely venue. The reggae groups was marvelous. Enjoyed the fact that they start early and finished early. Tight security. Would surely go again.
J. L.
One of the most well known and loved venues in Bristol. Got to be the best place for a night out, friendly staff, up to date music- not the same songs every week as you find with some other venues, affordable drinks and best of all an amazing atmosphere that you don't find anywhere else. The Syndicate is a hard night out to beat, if you haven't already check out 'Get Sexy' on a Saturday, never fails to be busy so would recommend getting on the guest-list (you can do this through The Syndicate website) Never had a bad experience here, the best club in Bristol by far.
J. S.
Great club, especially on a Saturday night at Get Sexy. Regularly frequent here and am yet to have a bad night. Staff, management and door staff are all very helpful, polite and friendly. Absolute bargain as well getting in free on the guest-list for free before 11. Whatever the occasion, this place is quality!
A. W.
Brilliant atmosphere, parking close by, great night
S. E.
Saw Sharon Van Etten here on my first visit to venue. A great night..venue not to huge so you can actually see the band without binoculars!
M. G.
I have been to every club venue in Bristol town and only one has left a strong enough impression that I go back to it time and time again, That one is The Syndicate Nightclub. in my opinion this club is one of the biggest and best venues Bristol has to offer.
Within its great atmosphere It hosts two floors and five bars, on the ground floor there is a large dance floor right in front of the DJ booth with easy access to the surrounding three bars making it easy to grab a drink in any direction you go, there is also a large smoking area accessible from this floor. The ground floor mainly plays the usual club tunes dance, house etc.
The second floor breaks off into two sections, one is the VIP area where the "important quests" can sit down have a chat and enjoy a bottle of bubbly or a drink of choice from the dedicated bar. The other section is the Hiphop and RnB room called MOKO, you can guess what music is played here. This room has a large dance floor, again in front of a DJ booth and a comfy seating area at the side for you to have a rest, it also has its own bar which is the largest in the club.
The club is always looking great every time I go in. It is kept clean and tidy throughout the night I have NEVER once found myself stuck to the dance floor or tripping over glasses like you do at some other venues and the bars are never messy. I can tell the staff work hard to keep it looking great.
The bar staff at Syndicate Bristol are incredibly efficient I have never found myself waiting around longer than a few minutes for a drink even on a busy Saturday and they always manage to be polite, friendly and provide outstanding customer service, you get a real feeling that you are valued as a customer.
The security staff are always in sight, they are easily approachable and helpful. They give you a real sense of security whilst you are inside the venue, if anything were to happen I am sure that they will have it under control within seconds, as a customer this is invaluable.
Overall the Syndicate Nightclub provides an EXCELLENT night out every time and I highly recommend you try it for yourself, I for one am glad I did and it is now always top of my venue list.
N. H.
It's fine for seeing live music, but at the end it takes ages to leave, as there's only one exit, which is next to the merch stand, the bathrooms, and the cloakroom, so there is always a huge delay in getting out.
S.
Nice venue, and very pretty and I had a great time here at a recent concert. However it was quite dirty and the floor was sticky and messy
M. R.
My trip to The Syndicate was one of many nights out in Bristol over the past year visiting friends and family and I can honestly say that in my opinion its the best club in the city.
According to many of the locals I spoke to in the pubs before hand the Get Sexy event on every Saturday is always packed and I wasn't disappointed.
With a huge main dance-floor and a top quality DJ this certainly wasn't a night to be missed. The usual problem in a big club of waiting for a drink for ages didn't happen either here as the main room has 3 big bars all with competent staff meaning that waiting was kept to a minimum, always a good thing in big nightclubs.
With a large smoking area outside if dancing's not your thing then you're onto a winner there. A nice environment to enjoy a bit of downtime mid-night.
Upstairs is MOKO, the second room of the nightclub that almost seems like another club entirely. If RnB and Hip Hop is more your scene than the usual club music downstairs then this room is for you. Again, bar waiting times is kept to a minimum with a huge bar upstairs and plenty of staff working hard to serve you quickly.
As this was a special occasion myself and my friends payed more to get VIP and we certainly weren't disappointed, with Champagne, a dedicated bar and toilets for the small amount of money extra it was certainly worthwhile. It allowed myself and my friends to have a booth to regroup at and chill out for a few minutes if we needed it.
One thing I noticed throughout was the was a lot of door-staff who were always helpful and polite, I didn't notice any trouble but if I did I have no doubt that they would have dealt with it quickly and professionally as it was clear customer service was a priority of theres.
All in all I had a great night at The Syndicate and would thoroughly recommend it to my friends if they were coming to visit Bristol. I'm not usually one to do reviews, however, I thought that my night was so good that it warranted this post. The club deserves all due credit for the hard work thats clear to see everywhere, from decor to staff - great night out. Thoroughly recommended to all.
A. D.
"Super club" is a bit of an overstatement, although admittedly it was a Wednesday.
The music was ok, although I didn't recognise any of it.
The drinks deals were really quite good, and the 2 for 1 cocktails were actually an acceptable quality for a provincial nightclub
F. M.
Pretty cool venue! Staff at the bar could be more friendly though. Lots of space and great stage
M. B.
My friends and I have been going to Syndicate for nearly 3 years now and we all genuinely agree it’s one of the best nights out in Bristol.
The atmosphere is always electrifying! The club has an impressive array of lights and lasers along with various pyrotechnics on the night for added surprise. To really experience this first hand I suggest you attend on a Saturday night when the club is at it’s fullest. Feels just like being at Amnesia! They also book regular live acts such as Greg James and David Hasslehoff. Most notably Professor Green will be performing live in early may which I am very excited to be attending!
Decor has improved substantially in the past few years; there was a time where I’d have said that the rooms felt dark and dingy. This has drastically improved most noticeably upstairs where a new seated area has been made giving the R&B room a more relaxed, stylish and spacious feel. VIP has also been revamped with better seating and a new Bar display showing off the new bottle sales available in VIP where you can buy bottles of spirits. The club is always kept clean and tidy during the night and the dance floor isn’t sticky so it doesn’t destroy my shoes. The o2 and Bunker are terrible for this, the floors are like flypaper!
Service at the club is excellent, I’ve never had an issue with any of the bar staff at this club. Speed of service is just as fast if not faster than any other clubs I’ve been too. I’ve heard people complain about this but you have to expect to wait a good 10-15mins on a busy night ANYWHERE you go! Bar staff have good attention to detail, normally checking glasses to make sure they are clean; serving Tequila with lemon and salt and Agwa with lime ect and offering straws to people who want them. They also possess good product knowledge and can suggest offers and exciting drinks you might not have tried.
VIP service is impressive value for money. My friends and I brought a platinum package a few weeks ago for a friend’s 21st and were pleasantly surprised with the quantity and quality of service! The Tables were laid out exquisitely with a frame on the table showing the name of the party and an array of Glasses and small canapés, strawberries and sweets, for the group. The VIP hostesses were very accommodating bringing champagne and bottles of spirits, in ice buckets, to our table which were included in our package. Glass bottles can now be kept in VIP which gives a more luxurious feel. All of this cost just £20 per person!
Overall this is an excellent venue with impressive value for money and quality of service. If improvements continue to be made I can see The Syndicate being one of the Best venues in Bristol for the foreseeable future.
L. Q.
Really lush venue, easy to be part of the action and close to the band, with plenty of “safe” areas if you want to just chill but still have an amazing view!
J. C.
Great little venue, capacity approx 1500
R. R.
Great little venue - pleasant security staff too. Exiting is quite challenging so hang back if you're not good with crowds
J. L.
Busy club, fast service at the bar with friendly staff! Always have a brilliant night out here. And the fact they have a photo booth is awesome, me and my friends can guarantee we'll get our picture taken and get to see it after, rather than when photographers go around and choose what photos they put up after. Music is always brilliant as well! Can never decide which room to be in! Too many good songs in each one! Quite nice to get a bump up to VIP every now and then as well. Even get strawberries and sweets on the tables! haha. Hardly ever see glasses or anything lying around either, kept clean, floor isn't always sticky and smelly like other clubs in bristol (oceana, o2) And the people commenting about who gets let in and banned etc. a)you have to have ID at ANY club b) i've never noticed the security selecting who does and doesn't go in, infact the only people i've seen turned away were drunk already. But from what I gather, like most places, if you don't cause trouble and just have a good night, you won't get in trouble. LOVE THIS PLACE
G. B.
Whitney played here, they were sick
C. L.
Only been once to see a concert. Management appeared a little ineffective at the time. Can't give too much more Information except that it is a small cosy place with feeling of intamicy when watching a band.
k. W.
Small Venu but we went here to see powewolf and wherever you stood you could get a brilliant view. This place also had a lot of toilets, always a bonus for women. Didn't have to queue once.
R. W.
Great venue for small gigs - thoroughly enjoyed a Miles Kane gig here. Drinks reasonably priced too.
R. L.
Came to see Propagandhi. The venue is really cool, good sound and good lay out. £4.40 for a tin of red stripe poured into a plastic cup is outrageous though.
K. K.
I watched a gig it was Pitchshifter. I was given drinks by a random guy with a beard. It was a good night all round, although there was a lot of shoving whenever the music became energetic.
J. E.
Great acoustics and PA setup with great sound tech. Seen rock , folk and metalish gigs there and never felt I needed my ear plugs.
R.
Nice gig venue I recommend getting early to be at the front you have no chance of seeing properly if you're not super tall and you get there a couple of hours late.
A. G.
Great venue and good views. Not too hot because of high ceiling. Good service at the bar.
A. O.
My first time in Bristol and SWX, have to say a great venue for a gig. Absolutely brilliant.. staff also great.. looking forward to the next gig there..
N.
massive improvement on what was there previously. Pretty good sound and layout is logical. Although the bar sells cans, and then decants them into plastic glasses which is overly wasteful.
D. P.
Very helpful staff. I'm on crutches and they very kindly found me a chair.
k. f.
Really enjoyable experience, good music, reasonably priced drinks. Bouncers are friendly and the first aid staff are kind too. Recommend!
s. s.
I remember DJing in this place when it was a part of the Rank organisation (Papillon's), some elements were still recognisable.
Good for live gigs apart from the original handrails rattling with the bass line lol.
D. B.
Great music venue. Its a good part Bristols music scene. It has multiple floors, drinks are decent.
N. G.
Came here for a gig. Sticky carpet. Nice toilets but the strange red lighting meant I couldn't see if my arse was clean or not 😮
L. W.
Great live music venue. You're never far from the stage or the bar! My new favourite venue in Bristol for gigs.
S. B.
Great venue, reasonable bar prices, only complaint would be the sticky floor, but that's very hard to keep clean when the venue is as busy as it is!
L. B.
Good gig venue. Sound levels were fantastic; it's not the biggest of places, but seemed to accommodate a good amount for the act I went to see.
J. C.
Great venue, if you get a good place, you can really feel the energy of the crowd. Spectacular!
a. d.
My experience at syndicate bristol was actually incredible! any day i went if it was a wednesday, friday or especially Saturday it was incredible!! The music is up to date with the best songs the bar staff are quick and helpful and overall the club was very clean and smelt good (unlike oceana) and all the bar support work hard and to keep the club tidy during busy hours how they clean the floor so quickly and so well in such a busy time is beyond me! i would recommend syndicate to anyone and everyone! you will have the time of your life!
S. R.
Great little venue, first time visiting and would defo go again, great smoking area if your a smoker too
A. P.
Great club, a bit like a 90s disco, but great vibe saw Big Thief play there and they were terrific.
G. Y.
Good size venue for gigs, and nice and central, but the sound quality isn't great and there isn't a good selection of beer.
D. R.
Good venue, central to city, car parks nearby. Acoustics are good and it is small enough to see the bands.
M. B.
Very nice venue, it has the best events. Never been disappointed by going there with my mates. Strongly recommended!
T. C.
It's a good venue with a great sound system. Can't comment on what it's like on a club night though
L. G.
Sound system was good, stage was well done. Drinks were pretty highly priced. Toilets weren't covered in piss which was nice
C. W.
Saw Terrorvision and The Wildhearts at this venue but had not been before. Reminded me of the old Astoria 2 in London. Good stage, good sound.
E.
SWX has the best sound system you'll find in Bristol. The design of the venue is also very nice, and the facilities are in good condition.
N. J.
Went to a gig here, nice looking place with decent acoustics. Poor choice of beers but not good place other than that!
B. W.
Great gig venue. Cheapish tins. Outside area. Slightly raised bits around the edges. Yeah, good.
T. C.
Great venue with a high stage, which helps the shorties amongst us. Staff were super friendly and the sound was great.
H. W.
Good venue with really good views of the performance, no matter where you stand. Beer selection is limited to Bud and Becks, and it's massively overpriced.
M. G.
I was pleasantly surprised by SWX - had the impression it was a bit grotty but staff were really friendly and it had a great atmosphere. Will definitely go back for other live music.
R. M.
Bar staff were attentive. As were the bouncers. There need a DJ that lays hard dance. Like Feven
J. T.
Big enough but still intimate. Great sound. Fantastic atmosphere. Feet stick to the floor though
T. O.
Perfect size for a gig venue. Good sound
Great atmosphere and helpful staff.
E. P.
Saw a drag performance here, if you're short, get to the front otherwise you won't be able to see much! Lots of space, expect it to be packed though.
Q. B.
Very modern venue for gigs feels a bit commercial so it's not my favourite but it's an okay size
m. B. B.
Attended soul train, great atmosphere, good speedy drinks service and music system was spot on or though 2nd dj of the night killed the crowed and people departed earlier than expected...
A. R.
I'm not usually one to do reviews but have to say The SYNDICATE Superclub is my choice for a top night out in bristol.
Friendly staff, brilliant sounds, up to date music, cheap drink deals :) and specially have to say the best laser & light show i've seen in bristol.Feels like the club experience gets better & better every time i go there coz i actually see them work hard for it..
As a international student and regular customer i Would defo recommend this club to all the International students or anyone who's looking for a amazing night out in Bristol.
J. M.
Good sound, OK visibility, terrible bar (couple of generic mass-market lagers is all you've got to choose from). Smells a bit funny, too.
R. H.
Best music venue I've ever been to. Not small but not too big either
T. A.
Was supposed to be on guest list but arrived and told the guest list didn't exist. Good music and atmosphere. A bit pricey though.
Y.
Had such a great time
J. W.
Fabulous gig venue. Great sound, great size. Look forward to visiting again.
K. M.
Fantastic acts for esdr and a lovely atmosphere but drinks where expensive especially as half of my larger was throth
L. E. C.
Great venue although the smoking area makes you feel like a caged animal.
D. W.
Great, nicely proportioned venue...bar at one end, leaning rails to side and balcony. A bit of a bottleneck exiting though.
R. S.
Absolutely rammed, good atmosphere
G. G. G. G.
Alcohol is expensive and on t of the can mostly but the venue is brilliant.
Watch out for slippery dance floors!
I. H.
Great venue.
Up close & personal
S. S.
Great venue for live music. Cloakroom, bars and a small enough venue to feel cosy.
T. L. C.
Best music venue in Bristol in my opinion wish more bands would play here rather than the o2

Great gig venue, clean, spacious and easy to get a drink!
J. B.

A. B.
Great club enjoyed the music and dj set with switch disco playing tunes all night
S. S.
Great music venue but security kept blocking the view of the stage
P. C.
Great venue for bands, better than some other, more often used venues in Bristol
L. C.
A good place if you want to vary the typw of music you listen to in one night so its not all just chart music.
J. T.
Decent venue, sub par bar, but good that bands are playing here now.
R. V.
Good sound. Fairly clean.
M. S.
Good venue. The sound of the band was crystal clear and the mixing excellent.
S. P.
A good venue. Plenty of space. Staff are pretty good, but prices are above average.
b. b.
Most nights it's just a square to dance on with more than pricey drinks. Only worth it if you time it right.
S. O.
One of the best night clubs I've ever been to! Amazing night, premium music!
d. r.
Really nice venue! Saw skinny lister and beans on toast there. Really good night.

Stickiest floor in Bristol but sound was great. Beware bar was very slow - but it was busy.
S. K.
One of the best clubs in Bristol. Good music to dance to, and plenty of space too.
e. c.
Good venue for gigs, however drinks choices are limited (standard lager/cider) and toilets are revolting
E. D.
Really good atmosphere. Multi leveled standing area so it was easy to get a good view.
O. P.
Awesome club! Can get a little busy at times but definitely worth checking out with some friends!
K. L.
Saw slowthai here. The show was brilliant. For live music though SWX just isn't big enough.
