Reviews of Stramash
E. E.
Friendly staff, so tasteful. We did not know anything about the place before but the staff help us to figure out what might suit us well. Very rich taste. My partner and I shared a starter and each a main dish. More than enough. We liked the food and atmosphere.
M. R.
Nice place with live music, mostly 3 bands a night. Can be crowded which is nice! Keep an eye on the performers list to see if you like the program. Be on time if you want to dance on the dancefloor. Drinks are easy to get at the bars. There's a second floor where you can sit and watch the music.
S. H.
Brilliant Tartan Army New Year's Party at Stramash. Great Venue and Music. T-Shirts available from Scottish Superheroes T-Shirts and Hoodies on Facebook ♡
P. K.
Fun place to be for live music and a little bit of dancing. It was a little crowded the night we were there, but the music was good.
C. P.
A great night, was visiting edinburgh and lucked out by finding this spot. Got a seat and enjoyed watching the dancing. Great music snd atmosphere. Such happiness, fun had by all. Highly recommend
m. k.
Great for Rock Music,Live bands. Large inside very popular...Cowgate
M. G.
Great vibe, very good experience, just had to keep making sure I was getting the drink I actually ordered. Will definitely be back :)
J.
Went there on a Wednesday night for Live Scottish Folk music and dancing and I enjoyed my night very much. People from different nationalities coming together to dance to good music was a memorable experience. I'm definitely coming back next time I'm in Edinburgh!
a. m.
Love this place, great live music, have enjoyed the folk bands on both my visits 4 years apart.
R. W.
Had a great night here while visiting Scotland. Packed with both locals and tourists even on weeknights. LGBTQ friendly. Live music was great, group dances were easy and fun to learn even with no experience.
G. M.
This place was great. Fun live music till late with no cover. Good and reasonably priced drinks. The (I think) manager was super friendly and helpful with drink suggestions.
S. M.
I played here with Bombskare at Halloween, but dressed as Slipknot and we opened our set with a straight cover of 'Wait and Bleed'. Not going to lie, it was awesome..
T. B.
Amazing place for a gig. Great atmosphere. Easy access to bars.
G. D.
The best place for live music! great vibe and plenty of space. Great selection of bands too. The management was really friendly too
E. C.
My favourite place to visit whenever in Edinburgh. A good variety of events and music for all, with clean comfy seating. When I used to live in Edinburgh, this was my go-to place for a night out!
S. D.
We were visiting Edinburgh and looking for some nightlife. After visiting a couple other local bars we ended up here and had an absolute blast. The atmosphere and live music were exceptional.
O. W.
Absolutely amazing evening. A great band was on and the dances were incredible. Could do with a wider drink selection on tap but other than that it was incredible.
J. M.
This is probably a great place if the vibe you're looking for is dancing to an american style pop band plays at astounding volume. Just wasn't what I was looking for when they said converted church with live music heh. That's probably on me. But not really my jam. The building is super cool though.
P. K.
Was a good place, but doesn't do cocktails, good selection on the tap tho. The music isn't too loud so u can still talk with people. Not too pricey
T. H.
I like stramash but tonight at the tartan army new year party I bought 3 rounds of drinks, the same, 2 bottles of corona and a Dura whisky, 3 different prices ranging from £11+ to £14-10. Think the staff look to see how much you have had to drink and try their luck. Take care and be aware.
D. W.
Great atmosphere, bar staff friendly. Bands excellent.
P. H.
Great place. Good beer, great bands, fun ceilidhs. Bouncers a little overenthusiastic. Had a great night thoughthanks folks.
T. P.
Fantastic place to go on a night out! Busy downstairs and a more spacious upstairs, with lots of seating too. Lovely staff, particularly a sweet lass with a dilf t-shirt LOL.
N. A.
The band was amazing and the ambience of the bar is great!
M. F.
Cool venue l. Great atmosphere

Great venue to see up and coming live bands
S. R.
Lovely place, great people and amazing music! I danced so much, best time ever!
B. M.
Excellent bar! Danced a cayley with instructions :) also their brüsky (double shot of whisky in a pint glass with IRN BRU and ice the rest) is super delicious and affordable!
S. S. U.
This place is amazing. One of the next night spots in Edinburgh. Great for live music.
B. R.
Brilliant bar for live music ..stage is high up so no matter where you are in venue you have a great view..the best Edinburgh gig venue for me
m. s.
Fantastic place! The live bands were superb and the crowd was amazing.
Had a great time here!!
D. H.
Great atmosphere!! Live music and reasonably priced drinks.
T. T.
Great venue and bar, good staff, ample seating and room with all that's happening right now. Fear not, they have live music and good drinks and that's not changing anytime soon.
D. M.
Once you get past the Fort Knox level security, this place is excellent. The live bands are ALWAYS good. Even if they play a music style you don't particularly enjoy, the vibe is so good that you still have a great time.
There are at least 3 different bars to order from, and the staff are almost always super fast at serving you.
If you enjoy great live music and late night entertainment, this is the place to go!
K. D.
Love the venue! This is how you use an old church :-) live music events every day, everyone will find something to their likings. Good choice of drinks, plenty of space to sit.
C. N.
Best place in Edinburgh to enjoy a pint or two and some whisky paired with great live music and maybe a dance if you fancy! Always a great night out!
D. P.
Lively and versatile venue. Great stage for bands and cool viewing and dancing options for punters. This is a really nice place to see your fave band. The atmosphere is electric when it's full. Loved it and hoping to be back soon.
A. A.
Amazing
Thanks to the Grom to high fade and all those crazy bands making live shows
J. R.
It's a good venue, good drinks, atmosphere and the staff are working their arses off and friendly too, BUT it wasn't good for FRINGE festival. Not a single person in the building knew what acts were on or what times, which meant we missed two we'd really wanted to see. They put on a fairly average cover band on for three hours and had a fringe act (an awesome Gaelic folk act) on at 1am. The duty manager also acted like I was stupid for asking or that it was a massive inconvenience to ask for their act times. She was rude and dismissive when I was polite and patient and the bar wasn't even busy then, and a barmaid eventually was really nice and hunted down the set list on Facebook. Which no one else knew existed oddly. Good save in the end. People have bad days but it's pretty simple stuff. Hopefully as the festival progresses it'll get more organised.
K. S.
Amazing live music! A definite recommendation for all!
R. M.
Really enjoyed this venue and the top notch music till 3am. On two levels with a pleasant decor
M. f.
Really good music venue, if they had an actual fireplace upstairs it would be perfect
B. M.
Free live music almost every night. Good selection of beers. Like most Edinburgh pubs in the area of Cowgate the beer is a bit pricey-but it is still a good night out.
L. T.
Great venue with a nice vibe. Saw a great band whilst I was there: "The Best Dressed Blues Band"
D. R.
Popped in for a drink and was pleasantly surprised how good the band was also not a bad venue with good acoustics and a place to dance definitely be back
S. B.
For far my favorite bar at Edinburgh. Live music everyday. Perfect for go in groups
A. M.
Great live music, a good spot. One star less because the drinks contained very little alcohol :D
R. M.
Fantastic venue with lots of great bands playing every night and it's free..
c. c.
Amazing place for late night drink live music and a dance
T.
Excellent musician, Peter, played wide variety of music & got everyone dancing !!!! 🎶 🎵 great atmosphere thanks for an awesome time! 💃🏻 🕺 …
L.
Planned to go to Jazz Bar and ended up in Stramash since the jazz performance ended early. The atmosphere was great and I loved the live music.
Was surprised by free entry and there are very affordable drinks during the week! Highly recommend - I’ll definitely be back. Very unique venue.
Staff were also really friendly. Only complaint were the slightly run-down toilets but that’s pretty common for most bars/clubs.
F. E.
Always live good bands, good music, nice staff. Center location close to everything. Bathrooms aren’t the best, but that always happens in clubs.
L. W.
Had a great night here. Music and bands were brilliant! Rock, blues followed by ska .... Perfect. Haven't danced and enjoyed myself in quite some time. Thank god live music is well and truly back ... Can't wait for a return visit 😊 …
T. F.
Great little venue, good music and cheap drinks.
L. H.
The staff are nice and the live music is great. However the drink is disgusting. I don't think I have ever tasted a worse Vodka and fresh orange in my life.
It's a shame because like I said the staff are nice and the live music was great.
A. B.
It was an amazing experience!!! Scottish people are to kind!!! This place is awesome!!!
G. S.
a wonderful place with ample space and two bar corners where there is no queue and you can order your drinks 🍹 more imaginative ... live music with bands of musical trend that varies genre depending on the evening ... Se you arrive as a tourist in Edinburgh you can't avoid visiting it ... if instead you live there ... drop by, you won't regret it ... PS: there are people of all ages ... but not the clean-cut ones! 😜😂😂😂👍
E. H.
The best bar ever. This former church built in 1859 has live bands pretty much all the time and it has the space to dance or to just sit back and relax in a great atmosphere. The first time I went they had band playing typical scottish music and they also taught you how to dance cèilidh style. If I didn't live across the atlantic ocean I would be there every night.
K. P.
Large live music venue in The Cowgate, Edinburgh.
Great prices on beers and spirits, many free music nights and gigs with food available.
Balcony bar upstairs too
I. P.
Great place for live music and drinks. Must visit!
M. P.
Fantastic to see this place open and playing live music again. We went to see the Skababs and they were amazing. Table service was quick and staff were friendly too
J. E. A.
If you want to have fun and enjoy the Scotland dance. You definitely have to come here is a must! It gets busy after 8pm . I suggest going early. It has two floors if you don’t want to dance. But I recommend the experience. People are very friendly.
R. K.
Such a great bar (in a former church)! The band which was playing (The Shiverin' Shakes) was fantastic. We had a blast!
B. S.
Very nice bar, i came wednesday for the LDC game and i discover how the Stramash celebrate the wednesday night, it's the best way they invite a local group and whe dance locals danced ! Sorry for my english
K. G.
It's ok, bands are good, but gets quite full with tourists. Unless you're sober bartenders will say you are drunk and won't serve you.
P. J. M. F.
Probably top 5 of my fav at Cowgate, always outstanding performers. Only bad point the cocktails suck..
A. S.
I just want to say sorry to the sir that was on the door checking the bags a few hours ago, I tried to make an stupid joke and it wasn’t funny, he was doing his job seriously and it’s good to know that. I’m sorry, your country it’s great, polite and amazing; and that’s to people like that sir is it still like that. Have a nice day.
Z. N.
Nice place, a bar in an old church. Live music and very good atmosphere. We've had a great time.
B. B.
Unfortunately I'm under 25 so I had to stay outside (joking) 😅
Great pub with a venue for live music and good beer selection. …
N. L.
A must drop by bar in Edinburgh, you may find rock band playing rock scottish song and having fun scottish dance in the bar with your friend
A. R.
Ecstatic. Loved the energy of the band. Friendly staff.
A. S.
Absolutely a fixed stop every time I’m Edinburgh. Fabulous live music and good vibes.
D. A.
Honestly one of the most fun nights ever. What a great place.
L.
The BEST nights ever here - can't wait to come back!!
L. L.
live music is banging especially the fiddler.
late closing time is good too compared to 99% other bars
G. J.
Great eclectic music venue, lovely staff and good atmosphere.
M. T.
What a fantastic night, highly recommend
S. F.
Great venue in the heart of historic Edinburgh, with terrific sound. It also serves food which was fantastic (we had pizza and burgers) and the staff were really friendly, they looked after us all night. Thoroughly recommended. Six out of five.
L. B.
I love this place! Wednesdays' ceilidh dances are chaotically fun. You don't know anything about ceilidh dances? Me neither and that's why it's so fun! They tell you what to do, you try to understand but let's be honest, the first times you'll be all over the place. And you meet nice people for group dances
If you go to Edinburgh you must try it
The tenant pint is not too expensive too, 3.50 in the middle of the week
M. F.
Best place for live bands in Edinburgh.
E. R.
Amazing atmosphere and music. I had a great time in there.
S. J.
Great atmosphere great drinks and on Wednesday night they have Scottish dancing had so much fun . Highly recommend going on a Wednesday evening 🥰❤👍😎😉 I will be coming back. …
A. F.
Good live music, and they serve very good chips too
S. y. M.
Some of the best nights of my life happened here. Love it!
r.
Went for a couple off drinks, live band
B.
Very good pub, good ambiance
S. V.
We loved the Wednesday evening, where they teach you how to dance
P. T.
Expensive drinks but amazing atmosphere
K. A.
Great live music venue getvin early to avoid ques later
A. M.
Came here to witness the marvel that is Scottish music and the teaching of dances that accompany them. Was a really fun atmosphere.
C.
Great live music venue in an old church, great venue
l. c.
Great live music from the Joe Yates Duo 🤗 …
J. G. C.
traditional live music, good beers, good atmosphere, good central area, a good place to spend the night, essential if you are passing through Edinburgh, the place is quite large and from almost anywhere you see the stage, recommended all adult ages, a 9 I give you score
R. R.
A pub with live music and various artists performances every day. I had a good vibe there with my friends.
L.
I had an amazing time in here, specialy thanks to the women with a red dress (wink) ;)
Great music and nice people all over the place
M. G.
Amazing music and not too crowded . I recommend for sure
d. m.
This was my first time visiting Edinburgh.
This place rock, absolutely 💯 top notch.
Great evening live singing .
Will definitely recommend …
M. K.
Well controlled entry system.. credit to the staff, enjoyable time for everyone.... thank you!
m. R.
I didn't like the atmosphere or the live music that day. There are special offers during the week, very good prices. good attention
T. S.
Phenomenonal must do whilst here!!
Nothing like live music and dancing to make a holiday
E. G.
Very fun, band were fantastic (albeit I forgot to check who they were) and drinks weren't too extortionate! It wasn't too busy when I got there (as pictured) but quickly packed out!
C. A.
Great Ska music last night! Fabby
R. G.
Great wee place , friendly staff helpful door stewards and live bands and drink until 3
H. S.
Free entry, great venue for live music.
C. S.
Fantastic venue for live music, excellent selection of beer and other beverages. Door staff and bar staff both very friendly. Would highly recommend popping in if you get the chance!
A. L.
Great to see live music back at Stramash and great atmosphere despite current limits. Sit down and table service was a little strange but great service from the staff. If they'd been serving the food on the menu though, I'd have spent more at the bar.
M. M.
Great atmosphere, jam packed with folk having a fantastic time.
Bar staff were great considering how busy it was
M. S.
Great pub with awesome live music!
J. L.
Fun bar with live music, even in a form of lockdown we still really enjoyed it and the band that played were excellent, playing a really broad mix of songs and putting a different twist on them. We went for a stag do and all had a great time.🎷🎸🎵 …
V. G.
Great place. Beautiful building. Great acoustics.
R. M. L.
Cheap drinks, great atmosphere, live music is awesome as well. Classic Rock & Indie music when we went. Very casual. Definitely worth a go
R. M.
Good beers, only dance hall I saw in Edinburgh. Has a daily Ceilidh.
W. C.
Fun bar with younger crowd. Clean and inexpensive with live music (American cover music) but quite good. Reccomend!
R. G.
I loved it.
An impressive conversion of an old church space into a live music venue.
The night I was there, a largish jazz funk band was on. Great sound. A good night.
T. P.
Great venue with free entry but probably better midweek when it's less crowded with better value drinks.
S.
Good place! There’s also upstairs. When I was there a girl singing it was good!! Not very busy (a Monday I was there)
R. O.
Amazing venue, great music with live artists on stage, open until 3. Free entrance to boot, what more could you want :)
P. M. L.
Great atmosphere and good music
N. D.
One of the best nights in Edinbrugh. Music was perfect for my taste, people where super friendly and great, staff the same. Going dor a 2nd night tomorrow. Awesome !!
J. T.
Amazing place with great live music. I have been waiting to go back since the lockdown temporarily closed it/stopped the live music and I'm so happy it is fully open again. I would like to see some real ciders on tap though.
A. H.
Great live music venue! It's big and confortable and they have a great choice of beers.
F. S.
Absolutely amazing venue/pub/bar, the atmosphere is like none other in Edinburgh, live music never fails to impress and get the crowd going. Great prices for drinks and the staff are wonderful. Tuesday night is the night to go if you want a boogie and have an unforgettable night... Depending on how much you drink though.
A. R.
Love it.... amazong live Musik and good Drinks.
L.
AMAZING! The live bands here was fantastic. Especially one i was think was called the black cats? 2 female lead singers who are so in sync. The atmosphere is great and the drink selection is decent 👌🏾sizeable place too. Plenty of space to sit down or dance …
P. C.
Love this place ! With two floors, there's always enough room to dance and enjoy the live music acts, the sound system's really good quality, plus helpful staff at the bars on either floor, and a nice choice of drinks... all that with a no entrance fee/tickets to buy ! 👌 …
P. B.
Visited 3 times on our week away staff friendly and very very good with covid restrictions. Loved the live music and wide range of music aswell . Food served until midnight and great choice of drinks and deals .
J. R.
Really good atmosphere, good live music and well priced drinks. Great for dancing & friendly staff.
M. D.
Great bar and good live music 🎶 …
A. K.
The most entertaining part in the UK..
C. D.
Awesome place to hear live music and dance. Highly recommend going to Stramash.
J. S.
Amazing venue, great music busy but quiet corners to talk if you don't want to dance. If you're looking to book an event there's a good space behind the upstairs bar hold about 60 people and having food on till midnight is super handy in keeping people happy drunk not hungry drunk. Side note food n drink are both good quality if a but pricey but hey you dont have to pay for the ace live music.
L. M.
Great music venue...and good choice of beers 🍻 …
M. B.
Amazing place with authentic Scottish live music
M. H.
Absolutely fantastic and surprisingly it has free entry, COVID measures scan for entry.
Open to 03:00
Great selection of music
Casual dress
In lower Edinburgh
S. F. T.
Live music, good atmosphere and kind staff.
N. T.
Been here a couple of times now; great atmosphere, a really good setup with bars and floors so there isn't a big queue to get a drink. Live sports as well as live music. Overall, its got a great range of drinks to go with a great place to have a drink. Would recommend.
M. L.
Really good music and really nice pub with amazing staff!
E. M.
An amazing place, and fortunate we stumbled across this place. Food was great, band was fantastic, service was stellar. We had the Stramash burger and cheese pizza. Both we great. One person mentioned the bouncers, they were great. In terms of restaurants, by far the best one of our trip to Edinburgh. Highly recommend.
P. J.
Fantastic atmosphere, hilarious dancers beside the stage. Wonderful to watch from above with a class beer.
I. M.
Famous pub with live music. Drinks are expensive if you compare with others near. But hood atmosphere. @Edinburgh4Share
G. K.
I have visited here a few times now during my stay, it is a great venue to watch gigs and have always enjoyed myself. The only issue I have come across is the doormen... l think they play a game between to see how many people they can piss off by refusing them entry for no reason. This has happened to me and my friends.. Luckily the singer of band who were playing next ( who we knew ) was passing by and told them to let us in..
So, if you can get in, it's a really good night...!!
F. J. Á. d. C.
Great spot. Live Music every day, each day a different vibe, different genres of music, old church style building creating great atmosphere and acoustics and nice staff.
Highly recommended for who wants to spend a good night out for a dance or just sit and listen to good music 🎶
A. C.
Excellent place for concerts!
J. H.
🎸 …
S. D. M.
Great pub and great music. Stramash offer a good choice of beers and a big stage, great for live music and spectacular for the show.
J. M.
Great place to listen to some live music and have a drink or two. They are open till early in the morning - so if you are looking to party the night away and not asked to leave, this may be a good place.
They also have some days of the week with cheap drinks - so light on the pocket if you time yourself. They have rock music and it gets quite loud - so definitely go here if you are into that.
K. W.
I had a great time dancing to the live music here. They have a big stage and on a saturday night it was lively and full of fun Scottish people happy to be dancing and drinking. Beer is priced appropriately and there was plenty of space to dance and stand or sit at tables, or stand at one of the two bars. The service was quick and the people working were very friendly.
E. R.
Good place to have a beer and enjoy live rock music. Not the cheapest but worth the visit.
M. D.
Great location and cool live music. Had one of the best Nachos there. Unfortunately it was a bit cold by the upstairs couches. Also the waiter forgot one of our orders and we couldn't figure out if we had paid for it or not because they didn't give as a receipt and couldn't print one off later on... In the end we had to pay 'again' for the dish we already had ordered. Other than that it was quite a nice place to be.
A. B.
We traveled here from Seattle, WA, USA with an entire rugby team and this bar was exactly what we wanted. The place was huge (hard to find in Edinburgh), was in a beautiful church-like structure, had live music, and the top bar staff (Connor and the rest of the bartenders) were the sweetest and a blast to spend the night with! Would highly recommend checking the place out!
D. V.
It's actually church with a party in the middle! There's a second floor with balconies and nice banks where you can seat your arse and just talk with a drink. They have large bars around every spot, well loaded with plenty of brands👍.
So far I have to say that I actually didn't like the Martini, it was all watered and almost nothing for something more than £8.
Despite that fact, I did really liked the atmosphere of this very place. ☺️
D. H.
Really great vibes, love the entertainment every night. Loosing a star because it is soo cold put in some overhead heaters for the quite nights. (even the quite nights have a great atmosphere). Bar staff are really nice (bouncers could be a bit friendlier it was a Tuesday night for a few drinks with friends and they thought they were God, the place was half empty like)
J. D.
If you are looking for a place to go after eating or to prolong the evening, head to this place with an atypical storefront. Push the door of this church and soak up the Scottish atmosphere: great beers, excellent music, festive atmosphere and very decent. If a hunger wins you in the evening you can order until quite late. Go there you won't be disappointed
J. S.
This is another great venue in Edinburgh to see love music. There is seating upstairs and downstairs. Although there is not very much of it. It is a large space to accommodate the crowds. There is no cover charge if you are here before midnight. It is located near cowsgate. They have a couple of bars to can get drinks from while listening to the music. So hopefully it will not be a long wait when it is crowded. They serve a decent selection of bar food. I did not have any so I am not able to report on how it is.
V. C.
Great, atmospheric bar with two floors. Downstairs there is a stage for live music and dance area (or standing with drinks area). Upstairs there is another bar and more seating overlooking the stage and dance area. Beer was about £4-5 and they seem to have lots of drinks offers throughout the week. The menu seems extensive with pizzas and snacks but we didn't try any food.
E. C.
Good food, live music, amazing atmosphere
The pub has all the typical elements of a traditional British pub and the attention to details inside (like indoor lighting) is amazing.
One of the few places you should really visit if on holiday in the city or, nonetheless, if you here and you are looking for a great place for a night out with friends
R. A.
Awesome venue, but not starting any live music until 10pm on a Monday night, with the main band going on at 12:30am? Seems a bit late for me, but maybe I'm just getting old
M. F.
Great venue. Had good view of Peatbog Faeries. No too bad bar prices. Great night.
L. B.
Great live music and atmosphere. Was reccomended to go by my Highlands tour guide Charlie
P. M.
Visited on a weekday night during the festival. The bar had great atmosphere, big open spaces, wasn't crowded. The live music was fantastic with great views from a second floor balcony. Still had live music playing when we left at 4am. A hidden gem in Edinburgh.
G. W.
Good atmosphere inside reasonably priced drinks
Toilets a but smelly
Outside street area needs cleaned not just at Stramash the whole street
P. v. d. l.
Very nice concert hall. Free entrance. And Scottish ceilidh on Wednesday.
R. W.
As the name suggests a great place to go for live music. The best thing is the friendly vibe that you feel in there. Me and some friends went for Burns night and had a proper dance. To boot it's got a well stocked bar and quirky decor with loads space to watch the bands and have a boogie
A. A.
Really good fun live bands, would absolutely come again. Had a great couple of nights here during my stay in Edinburgh!
D. S.
Nice venue if you're on the buget. House ale 3.5£ and 5.5£ for G&T. Food doesn't seem promising though. Free live music with dances. Quite cool but try to get upstairs as it becomes sweaty on the ground floor.
F. G.
Really nice place to have a drink and listen to live music any day of the week.
P. M. (.
Great venue with loads of great live music and a decent stage and in-house PA
M. N.
Slightly expensive pints unless you have a member card. Different bands playing there every night of the week. Potentially great shows with no cover charge. Vibe is really good. Two floors as well so you can be in the thick of the action on the front of the stage or up on the second level enjoying the tunes from afar.

One of my favourite places in Edinburgh. With amazing atmosphere and free entrance, don't even really need to pay here. Perfect if you love live music, but got no money
F. T.
Absolutely Fantastic. Great Night with the Skababs. Stramash is a fantastic Venue
S. K.
Since this is a live music venue, the amount of fun you'll have depends on the band playing on any given night. It can be a very quality time with free entry, so it's usually my first stop when I go on a bar/club crawl in case there's a good band on :)
J. M.
A must - visit musical venue with phenomenal space inside, good drinks and excellent acts from across Scotland. This venue is a guaranteed talking point for a night out. Ambiance is very memorable and offers an experience rather than just another place to get wrecked.
D. J.
Really excellent place for live music and a good night out.
F.
One of the best bars I’ve ever been to! Great atmosphere, great music, great drinks! Definitely recommend😍 …
P. L.
Impressive converted church with live music every night, free entry and open till 3am. Poor selection of cider on draught, and rammed on Friday and Saturday nights but great selection of good, and often great bands. Staff could be friendlier - especially doormen who seem to have a problem with hippies!!
A. L.
Quite a lovely place, an old church remodeled as a Viking themed pub/club. When we visited a Rockabilly band was playing live music. Just totally loved the atmosphere. Had a good selection of beers and ales as well.
T. C.
Excellent live music venue in the heart of Edinburgh; competing against many other music bars in such a close vicinity isn't easy, but Stramash is bigger than most and the extra space and 2 bars are most welcome. Sound is excellent, most shows are free but check their website for details. Never yet had a bad experience in here yet. They also have free wifi and a wide choice of good beers on tap. Worth checking out!
N. M.
Brilliant, there's a group of guys that play there every Tuesday and they are mental. Have shades on the whole set and the combination of bass, electric and drums makes for a rockin musical experience. Guinness is really good as well, no bubbles or anything xx
J. N.
Live music, dancing and fun place. Saw no trouble, good crowd and bouncers not too overbearing. Drinks are expensive but that's to be expected. Also has an upper area with cosy seating, it's own bar.
J. R.
Poor bar management - one bar staffed but totally unused yet not enough staff to open the upstairs despite many people being without chairs. Bar staff admitted it was to encourage people to buy more drinks. Spoilt the experience a little. Otherwise staff were nice, atmosphere was okay and there was plenty of space.
D. W.
The music wasn't too loud to actually talk to one another and the fact there were two bars meant you could send someone to each to get the round in faster letting the other know when you were getting served.
Update
Didn't realise there was a bar and more seating upstairs, great window table with awesome views of the street below
E. P. L.
Great live music!!
S. Á.
I stumbled upon this gorgeous building during my visit in Edinburgh THREE YEARS AGO, as an exchange student. As my friends and I came in we noticed there was going to be a concert so we decided to stay there for a while to see what it was about.
The Purple Felts were playing that day and I had no idea who they were but I loved their music right away and to this day they're still in my playlist. We ended up staying there until the concert was over. Right after they finished I got on stage to get my picture taken with them by one of my friends and they were super nice about it. The security staff waiting for me as I got off the stage to kick me out was super nice about it too. 10/10 would get kicked out again. No kidding. This place is mint.
J. L.
I was born and raised In Chicago, Il, although it is known as the The Windy City it is also a place of great Blues Music. I believe Stramash rivals it along with the patrons who enjoyed the the music! The pub food was very good also. Before I forget, I'm not a whiskey drinker, Stramash has an enormous variety of whiskeys!!
T. M.
Great venue, watched Scotland beat England at the rugby, place went mental🤣 soon after the match a band was on rocking the place🥰 …
V. A.
We enjoyed a chilled concert of the gorms, a really cool Irish and Scottish folk band. Even though it was a Sunday night I was impressed by the atmosphere. Really cool place to enjoy Edinburgh's nightlife
G. W.
It's a great venue staff are friendly
There were 2 good bands on
I love going there
S. K. H.
Hidden gem.. we went at 3 and it was really quiet, could tell the later it got the busier it would get. The food was amazing and brilliantly priced, also a wide variety of spirits and on tap beers and cider.
M. M.
Never disappointed by Stramash. The live bands are always really good and entertaining, entrance is free and the atmosphere is very friendly
E. K.
Great atmosphere, fabulous live bands. Danced my socks off last night!!! Highly recommended.
M. B.
Fantastic venue for watching "Free" live music. Very chilled relaxed evening was had by my wife and I x Van Tastik was fantastic on Monday 13th. A great end to our wedding anniversary weekend in Edinburgh xx big love from Birmingham xx
M. W.
Architecture and atmosphere is really not to he missed. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, making it an all round great place to have a drink.
G. Z.
Nice place if you want to stay out late. Live music 3 bands untill 3am plus. Reasonable prices good atmosphere. Located at the old town of Edinbrough. Quite big place you can go with friends and have fun and dancing till early morning... I recommend this place
C. K.
Best ceilidh dancing for new comers, nice party atmosphere!
E. C.
Good live music. Lovely bar.
D. R.
Fabulous place for enjoyment with friends.
R. W.
Good venue, food and a great mix of bands. Something for everyone. Always a good atmosphere, have had many brilliant nights at Stramash. Looking forward to this Sat 6th Oct to see The Blackjacks and The Skababs!
Z. B.
Excellent music and atmosphere... There hasnt been a time I didn't enjoy myself being there! Beer is a bit pricey (5.80 for a lager), but bear in mind that
there is no entry fee!
D. B.
Visitor to the area but needed somewhere to watch the Champions League. Venue boasts a huge high-quality projector TV displaying sports, along with other entertainment. The inside of the venue looked good and was well layed out. Food and drink was fairly priced and tasted good.
M. W.
Lovely staff. Beautiful venue. Brilliant 'rock-ceilidh'
S. M. F. G.
Amazing place! Really good looking, two flors, the bottom one where you can dance and enjoy, the second one where u can chill, drink or even see all the live music that is always at the place. One hundred per cent recommended! ;)
L. R. U.
Cool furbiture, vibes, and live music!!
I. C.
Stramash has really helped improve the Cowgate nightlife offering a fantastic change from the other clubs. For a start it's free entry at least when I've been there on weekends. Inside is a fairly large venue although its otherwise pretty typical and a bit grungy. The main draw is the great lineup of live music.
h. a. s.
I’ve visited Edinburgh twice and I’ve always come to Stramash and I can’t wait to visit again! Lovely door staff and bar staff fabulous music it will always be on our list! 🎶 …
D.
Great live music, never had a bad time here. Highly recommend!
G. C.
Went there specifically to see a band (combat rock) and found an absolute gem of a venue. Great bar for live music. Must check out their website to see if there is anything else worth seeing
D. I.
Ceilidh dance on Wednesdays, the best place ever!!!
C. V.
Awesome music and beers! You should go there in a Wednesday, you can dance with all the people. It's a traditional Celtic dance, and it's awesome!
A. J.
Nice atmosphere and look inside. Live music daily. Some nice acts playing whilst in there. Great decor. Huge improvement on the last place to occupy this spot. Friendly staff and good selection of drinks.
K. S.
Nice venue, but was very quiet during the day and when we had had our drinks and left, the waitress couldn't even bother to say anything to us but was moping over a table and talking to her phone. Could be nice place to spend an evening, but don't bother going there early even if they're open.
K. S.
Ideal location and open until 3am (5am during the Fringe). Live music is always a pleasure, with adequate space to sit or stand, and a bar stacked with a variety of drinks.
D. W.
Good areas in the pub, lots of bands playing. Guineas was nice. Toilets were clean. Little off the beaten track but we'll worth seeking out .
C. M.
Wow! What a fantastic place. Free live music, you'd have to pay a lot of money to see these acts individually and a great atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!
D.
Good music, great bar, nice people.
The food is good, but don't go there if you are searching for traditional scottish food. They serve burgers, pizza, chickenwings and other typical bar snacks.
G. R.
Great venue, great atmosphere and the usual superb music from Skerryvore. Really helpful staff
A. B.
The free Ceilideh dance every Wed is AMAZING and you should definitely check it out if you’re in Edinburgh. But, BEWARE of the bartending staff. I ordered 3 shots for myself and friends and was overcharged by over 60% - what should have been under £10 ended up as £16.60. It was the most expensive tiny half shot I’ve ever had in my life. Naively thinking that Edinburgh is expensive, I only realized that I had been taken advantage of when another bartender kindly charged me the correct amount the next time I ordered a round. I am a student and this left a seriously bad taste in my mouth. I had even asked my friend living in Scotland if I should tip the first bartender. Sure glad I didn’t since he decided to take a pretty hefty tip for himself.
G. I.
Enjoy going here. Good music venue and the drinks aren't overpriced. 2 floors to let you view from above or have a wee dance down below.
B.
Really cool place, massive football screen and live music during same night:) of course not at the same time. Not too many sits but, this is very stardard practise in local pubs. No hot drinks:(
L. F.
Large venue with multiple bars. Live music most nights and a lively atmosphere. Can be a bit loud, but drink prices are great and there is always somewhere to sit.
J. M.
Great bar, good music, nice people.
J. K.
Cool place. Plenty of seating, two bars and a big dance floor. Has live music at the weekends, even late at night, and a decent choice of drinks.
R. O.
Superb live music venue, good beer selection and plenty of room to comgortably stand and rest your pint even though the place was rammed on my visit.
On a weekend break in Edinburgh I looked for a bit of live music and although there is no lack of entertainment in town I found the Skapones were gigging at Stramash and was more than happy to stick on my oxblood DMs and Fred Perry Tee for a solid 2 hours of originals and Ska classics. Look it up if you're in town as I'm sure Stramash will have something up your street.
R. C.
Good venue, fantastic music (Walter Trout)
M. W.
Nice to be our, Cool venue, went to see a call it routed. Lovely sound.
S. D.
Loved the live music. ❤️
S. G.
Really cool music venue. Recommend for live music !
d. d.
Really like this venue for intimate blues / rock gigs. Plenty of staff on the bar areas and the toilets weren't bad. Didn't try any food but I did notice food was available.
G.
They always have great concerts there, most of the time free of charge. You can also go for their sweet potato chips and a local ale. Worth a visit, day or night.
D. V.
All the atmosphere you could ever want, and more. Great choice of bands, great, enthusiastic public. The place to be for a late night and a dance.
d. m.
Great for a night out in town. Live music all kinds solo singers groups duo's food available seating and standing areas. Close to other bars and restaurants and hotels hostels b+bs
K. T.
A really great bar with great style and great music. So much space whether you are there for food drinks or the live music there's pls.ty of spaces to sit or stand. It was clean and in a great location just off of Cowgate and the staff were all lovely
C. B.
Lovely live music, great vibe
P. S.
Good venue, spacious and clean. Ideal place to listen to a variety of live bands.
The place also offers nice selection of drinks and food until late hours
w.
tends to be really busy fringetime but the atmos of fab, live bands most nights makes it worth it. seems to stay open all hours and they had a sunday evening ceilidh dance night which was a blast
J. C.
Great sound, nice layout where you can be "lost" or "left in peace". Overly expensive on drinks though, £10.20 for a pint of Tenents lager and a pint of Guinness. Too much!
N. A.
Really nice bar, live music most nights, great place to see new musicians and also chat with friends. Good price for drinks too
M. L.
Really good live music bar. Planned on dropping in for a couple of drinks but ended up staying for more than 3 hours watching music. Friendly staff too.
L. H.
Amazing venue, loved the set up and environment, sound quality awesome, felt so unique and the bar staff were great, quick service!
A. M.
Great live music bar. Brilliant atmosphere and great range of drinks
A. W.
Great venue for live music (& sport given they apparently have a massive pull-down screen) with 2 bars serving downstairs and 1 upstairs.
D. F.
A reconverted church with live music on stage. As other pubs in the city it offers lots of kinds of drinks and food to enjoy the nice atmosphere in this two-level pub.
G. M.
Good atmosphere. It can get really crowdy (which I don’t like, but someone does), but sometimes it’s really good if you want just live music and a pint. Prices are okay.
g. r.
Good vibes, nice place.
J. W.
Too loud for me, but great music! Place was rocking! If you like to get your dance on with electro/rock themed music, this might be your place.
M. B.
Great live music venue,
C. R.
We had an amazing night here on Friday night. Jojocoke brought the house down. Never had so much fun. The place was jumping and even a mosh pit started LOL. Those guys killed it 🤘💆🏽♀️ …

This place has a really nice vibe. The music is great and there are plenty of everyone to have fun. There's lots of beer choices. A place to go back.
A. B. P. C.
Great venue. Excellent for live sports or live music (live bands evry night). Reasonable drinks prices. Decent grub. What more can you ask for? An absaloute must!
E. B.
Live band good vibes
b.
Great Live music nights with equal amount of both sexes the few nights I've been since arriving in Edinburgh which makes for a good atmosphere.
Downsides and alas there is a few - gets very hot in there, uncomfortably when busy in summer time. Toilets are the most disgusting I've ever used in a club - don't think they clean them - gents floor is covered in urine and spilt drinks which has been trodden all over - this carries to the stairs which are used all night to go to the toilets or upstairs.
Plus people spill drinks on same stairs - making them lethal - I was not drunk (only had one beer) when I slipped all the way down them - footing just went from underneath me feet and I slid all the way down them - ruined my attire basically wiping up with back of my shirt and jeans all that filth. Few other patrons helped me up - quite embarrassing and most unpleasant to know what you've just slid in, not to mention back and arm hurt a bit - so I left to go back hostel take a shower tried tell a few staff about this occurrence before exiting but seemed to go in one ear and out the other - told one of the security chaps to that had ear piece in ear what I done and floor needs moping or someone could be quite hurt if fell wrong - he said he would get staff to sort it but in the 20mins I hung around to see if they would address which they had not before deciding I felt to dirty and in pain that I best go home.
So I saw no staff make any attempt to clean up this hazard. Health and safety issue in my opinion - sure I will not be the last to slip on them stairs surprised no ones tried to claim off them as there clearly at fault imo. Alas it's so noisy in there I never got details of guys who saw me fall or anything nor took pictures but my back kills today so instead of exploring Edinburgh on my second to last day here I'm stuck chilling on my bed writing reviews. A real waste of my vacation.
Lastly many of their glass collectors staff wear Belushi's t-shirts with the logos and adverts on - however when I ask if they are a Belushis chain bar staff say no or give me puzzled look but I have a Belushi's VIP pass so if there wearing that chains attire as staff they should partake in its promotions - i.e. accept the VIP card like the Belushi's bar other side of hill does (by Waverley train Station - Market Street entrance).
S. A.
Not a huge amount of seating but great spot for a boogie
S. S.
I always love this place. Without a doubt, the staff are fantastic, the music is fantastic, and the door staff are also fantastic. I could never think of a better place to have a night out in Edinburgh 🙂 …

Brilliant atmosphere and brilliant service. As a couple who love live music, not only does it tick that box, it also pays for some of the best gigging bands out there.

Inside an old church in the Edinburgh Cowgate is not the most likely place to find a great late night music venue, but Stramash is full of good surprises. Local musicians performing nightly and no cover charge to enter!
C. C.
Very spacious place with live music and cheap drinks. Definitely going to Stramash again next visit to Edinburgh. Loved the energy I found there.
B. C.
Nice venue. The crowd was quite young though. Nice place in the centre of Edinburgh to try at least once. There is an entrance fee to pay to get in.

J. B.
Great place for a night out. Always great live bands
W. M.
Fantastic live music venue deep in the heart of old Edinburgh, I worked here 20+ years ago before it was involved in a rather major fire and it has to be said it's improved the place tremendously, solid door team and really good barstaff mean there's no bother and quick service - highly recommend if you find yourself in town with the need to hear a decent live band.
R. S.
Great night in Staramash, managed to keep the vibe alive with the restrictions and social distancing. Thorough with sanitisation and track and trace. Special mention to Sandy and Sas who were amazing wait staff!!!
