The Donkey has always been a great venue, went back the other night to see a band, the Donkey has been given an amazing refurb!! The quality of the beer is fantastic and the sound quality in there now is remarkable. Absolutely fantastic friendly staff and great atmosphere.

Great venue for live music, it has recently been renovated by the new owners and the whole place feels regenerated. Reasonable beer prices and they also have started doing food now, I've only tried the fish and chips but that was well presented and very tasty.

Live bands Friday and Saturday nights, Drink prices about average with covered smoking area and outdoor seating at the rear for the sunny days and warm nights.

Best live music venue in town. It doesn't matter what genre it's always top musicians both onstage and off. You never know who's gonna get up next and suprise you. If you're visiting make this your first choice for a good time. You'll be made to feel like family

This is a really nice music venue. Heard good things about The Donkey for years, but only visited recently. Had a good night out there. Decent-sized one room bar. The gig I saw wasn't great, but can't really blame them for that. I thought the drinks were rather pricey for an out of town pub. No disabled facilities.

The Donkey is a lovely, friendly venue and bar. Never a hint or trouble. Always something interesting going on, great live music, and always seems to have a really happy welcoming atmosphere. They have some amazing bands play here, so well worth keeping an eye on them. The open mics are cool, and I've saw amazing stuff.

Music was excellent as was the service. However the lady's toilets were filthy. Doesn't seem much point in all the Covid measures when the toilets are not being cleaned.

Perfect music! 1st ever been. Saw the Drugstore cowboys and friends. Had the best day EVER!!! The place itself needs a paint up and tidying. We sat on a bench looking settee that was so low down, we couldnt get in and out. Needs smaller tables nr the stage. Over all..we will come again soon x

It's a music venue of long-standing (the signs say since 2005) covering a wide range of genres. It's gigs are mostly in the evening or at night and are not free - check their website for their online listings section for details - but they do run regular free trad jazz and hot swing sessions Tuesday lunchtimes from 12:30-3:00pm featuring the Titanic Jazz Band which I've found is enjoyable as you eat your lunch (they do hot food during the day on Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday - the rest of the week it's only evenings & nights). There's a smallish and somewhat awkward car park so using the free on-street parking in the nearby streets is usually needed which can be a bit of a struggle I've found especially if the Students are back and in term (this whole area has a student heavy population due to its proximity to the University of Leicester). There's a bus stop from the City Centre opposite the venue as well as one into the City close to the entrance.

The Donkey is one of Leicester's best-kept secrets. Friendly and a bit mad with a good mixture of ages. They really know their music. A bit down-at-heel but isn't that how a live music venue should be?
