Reviews of The Drill, Lincoln
T.
We were looking for a quick bite whilst we waited for the train & Drill didn't disappoint.
The interior is cool (aircon) & traditional, with modern bench seats & tables.
Outside seating is a huge metal bench seat with small tables & chairs, these are in a shaded off the main Rd court yard.
We decided on two breakfast baps with OJ, egg & hash browns then mushrooms & hash brown. They arrived in minutes, fresh, hot & very tasty. Hash browns fluffy & crispy not saturated in oil. Egg was perfectly cooked. Mrs S loved the mushrooms too.
Staff were extremely friendly & helpful, the cost was very reasonable & all in all a great place to eat. We'd definitely go back for food again.
B. F.
No air con so was unbearable at times. But the show was fantastic and the staff were friendly.
J. M.
We went to see Phanthom of the Opera performed by the Youth Group Production. I can't express how much me and my friends enjoyed the show.
There was so much talent on stage, the performance in my opinion was as good as any show you would see in the West End.
It is one of my favourite musicals, and l can only praise the cast, especially Jordan Walker (Phantom) and Alyssa Brock (Christine) who are destined for a star lit future. But to be honest ALL the performers were amazing. Thank you for such a wonderful evening.
K. H.
First time that I had actually been inside the building. Blown away at the brickwork craftsmanship. Staff very attentive. Disappointed at the numbers in the audience, but clashed with a popular event at the Theatre Royal with was full. Beatles tribute band, not the best but it was a night out.
C. S.
Took my son to an adult special needs disco there, called, I believe, the butterfly club. It was excellent. Well organised, everyone catered for. The drill Hall itself is an impressive place, well run with very helpful staff.
G. G.
Was attending the beer festival it was very well organised & thoroughly enjoyed it. We have attending before but on a Saturday evening but there wasn't much of a choice left so decided to go Saturday afternoon & there was lots more availability. Would recommend it but try & going earlier to avoid disappointment.
B. P.
Excellent venue , great staff, good bar. Defo need more indie bands though. Had a brilliant time at my last visit.
i. w.
An amazing venue, will definitely be visiting again in future.
A. D.
The Drill itself is quirky and I like that. The experience you have there depends on what you've gone to watch, but we had a good time. But drinks are expensive!
m. t.
The staff are great, there is plenty of leg space for the seats in the venue. The price is really good and the show was amazing.
P. R.
Great area and bar, staff friendly and welcoming. Went for the comedy night great acts would go back next comedy night 11 Nov.
T. R.
Really nice place, but we saw a 1 hour kids' theatre show and, although it was good, it was far too expensive for what it was.
J. K.
recommended by friends so we popped in and tried it for ourselves
Nice atmosphere and great friendly staff
we went for the Spanish style sharing platter and we were not disappointed plenty of tasty well presented food and a bargain at £15 for two
Rob the chef came out to check we were happy with our meal
Great taste and excellent value
A. B.
Went to part of Lincoln book fest , 2 authors discussing their lives in the music industry, great atmosphere
M. D.
Great to be at Lincoln Drill Hall after its really good refurbishment to see this years Christmas Panto, Aladdin. What a brilliant production, very funny and thoroughly entertaining. Well done all 👏 😀
R.
Great to be back in the Drill Hall last night after not having been since before the pandemic. So glad that this venue was saved, personally not a fan of the new decor and interior as it feels like a lot of the venue’s previous charm and character has been removed, but still had an excellent night of comedy!
S. A.
Great central venue for Lincoln events. We saw the Reach showcase and it didn't disappoint
S. M.
Saw the Skids here last night. Lovely venue, decent acoustics, good prices at the bar. Clean toilets and great disabled access.
S. A.
Fantastic venue, been many times and never disappointed
C. H.
Great venue, very friendly staff
E. J.
Brilliant event, way too hot in the main stage room though, please invest in some better ventilation!
J. B.
First time there on 17/9 to see Republica. Nice small venue. Would go again.
V. H. R.
Nice bar ans outside area, and good size venue room, friendly staff, good prices
V. m.
Visited for a comedy evening. Very well organised and lovely inside. Enjoyed the evening.
K. R.
Had a great night last night, staff were excellent
M. R.
Local theatre all refurbished. Great venue
A. C.
Great gig venue, bar can get busy. Friendly staff
D. M.
It was a brilliant night I enjoyed it and also the people enjoyed it to the staff are amazing and hardworking in the drill hall I'm really pleased it opened back up and it shows people like ourselves need to have a great time. I like going to the butterflies club. From denise Mulholland.
L. M.
Had a fantastic time at the Drill Hall. Amazing show and very well run. Staff were helpful and friendly.
The seating could do with a bit of tlc but that's my only criticism, the fact the Drill Hall is still open and looking fantastic is amazing! 👏👏
Definitely worth a visit! The Aladdin panto was fabulous for all age groups.
R. T.
Visited here for a pantomime showing of Aladdin. Very good covid measures in place and was a great experience. For a small venue it had very good atmosphere. Only lost a star due to the excessive heat in the venue, no big deal though. Would recommend.
P. Z.
Cosy place, ideal for upcoming bands. Friendly and helpful staff
N. R.
It is a fab community venue that is a charity really and depends on support, fundraising, donations and funding. Invaluable and lovely. Saw Braebach this time...Great folk band.
A. W. (.
Lovely place, great refurbishment, good beer and food options.
A. P.
Great show but difficult to get drinks as not enough bar staff and the room was very cold but a really good night
D. H.
Great to see the Drill Hall open again. The changes look great as well. Took the grandchildren to the pantomime yesterday and we all had a great time. The tiering system meant that we all had a great view. Will be booking for Phantom in July. Only minor issue is that the seats are not that comfortable.
P. G.
A updated area, nice and relaxing atmosphere, bar prices are reasonable. A good evening can be waiting you.
V. D.
My recent visit is because Lincoln beer festival is held here. The drill hall is a multi-function venue, hosting a wide range of events, so I can't comment on all, but the toilets are plentiful and clean, and the cafe bar offers a decent range of drinks and snacks (if a little over priced).
J. M.
All of the staff are amazing, I got an incredibly warm welcome at the box office and the tech team were incredibly helpful with the load-in and load-out of our show.
E. W.
Compact theatre - good seating and bar area.
M. F.
Excellent venue, came here for a northern soul alldayer, had a fantastic time. Great staff behind the bar, and fantastic atmosphere. Great car park nearby, and cheap cost us only £5 for 24 hours, so could come back the next day for a spot of shopping ☺
C. G.
Fantastic place. Superb performance tonight
K. G.
Warm welcome on entry, friendly staff all evening.
So good to have the Drill open again.
P. B.
Small compact but great will visit again
J. B.
Found it an odd even. Went for the rock and blues festival. It's. Good looking venue with a relatively small performance space but even though it was live music all afternoon and evening the main area in front of the stage as seated rather than standing so a lot of the atmosphere was lost. Great bands and a good range of beers at the bar. Would recommend and check out other things happening here but baffled as to why it was all seated.
E. D.
Great venue gadva wonderful night
L. C.
Great venue, always enjoy the shows and events. Wonderful place to hold the Lincoln CAMRA Beer Festival
C. H.
Good food followed by a brilliant play
P. E.
Great atmosphere. Decent bar prices
S. O.
Amazing venue with an excellent cafe, good prices and accessible. When I visited there was a group of new mums, elderly people and kids there such a wonderful mix in an excellent venue. The only draw back would be it was rather hot in this weather.
I will look to take one of my children to one of there amateur dramatics classes in the near future.
J. R.
Went to see panto and it was first class. Well worth the money. Never been to Christmas panto at drill hall before but i was very surprised how good it was a brilliant cast and well written. First class acting as well. Prefer this venue to the theatre royal. The length of the show was very decent for the money. Definitely will come again. Thank you for an excellent evening.
S. B.
The Drill hall is a fab place for an evening out, loads of different acts for different taste's.
Great facilities, run as a charitable trust, friendly staff and the bar price's are pretty good too....
Whilst we were there I found another couple of shows a fancy this month so I must remember to key an eye on the website!!
V. H.
Fantastic venue. Great performance
A. B.
I love this venue. I have seen a huge variety of shows there and they do some amazing things. Even the live music in the cafe bar is great. The food is good and a nice selection of drinks even if they are a little expensive. The front of house staff are lovely and I have never had a disappointing visit.
n. w.
Good place for the Labour party to have a drink and meeting
G. S.
Always has an interesting variety of shows. Staff are friendly. The drinks are reasonably priced. Seating in the venue is comfortable. I generally see comedy gigs here, as the Drill Hall is much nicer than the Engine Shed, the other main comedy venue in Lincoln.
M. W.
Great venue with fantastic staff
H. L.
Great venue
D. S.
Lovely arts centre with a great atmosphere. The drill hall is a charity so its performances are well priced and sometimes you can pay what you think it was worth at the end of the show!
It has a nice cafe and areas for children to play as well as hosting shows from big, well known acts to up and coming local talent.
T. T.
The Bluejays - what a fantastic rock and roll band! Evening full of great music and joy!
M. S.
Great beer festival in pleasant surroundings
D. S.
Wicked night had awesome place
R. M.
Great little venue, went to watch a kids show with my nephew and his friend and they both loved it! Nice little outdoor space, small gift shop, clean toilets, nice sized performance space, friendly staff, I'd recommend to anyone
P. W.
Nice theatre. Small car park nearby but multi-storey over the road. Friendly staff. Food choices and costs reasonable. Some good non-tribute productions. (Current Panto very well performed and entertains all ages. )
M. C.
Fantastic for kids an adults. Changing facilities are some of the best in Lincoln. And staff are consistently friendly and helpful every time we go. Great selection of events going on all through the year inclusive of really young children. Great way to introduce new experiences without feeling like the kids need to sit still.
m.
Nice little venue, enjoyed the comedy night there. Did get a little stuffy when busy however, particularly when sat in the elevated area. Drinks prices are reasonable and the interval drink service is very useful.
C. B.
Nice place to meet for a drink, unfortunately in the daytime the kitchen closes at 2pm and the bar at 3pm. They put on performing arts stuff in the evening, but it'd be nice if they were open longer in the day. There are benches outside for smokers etc, and they do soya milk and almond milk options for vegans.
B. A.
The venue is very good, but a cold draft when sitting watching a very good Beatles tribute band is not ideal. But overall a very good night of music. The staff were very helpful.
G. J.
Always a pleasant venue, with friendly and helpful staff. Seating could do with being a little more staggered so that it's easier to see over the head of the tall person day in front of you, lol. That aside, I'd recommend visiting this venue.
B. S.
Having coffee & snack whilst small group played/sang songs for hour, was entertaining & nice. Having comfy furniture however, I didn't use this eating & drinking would become messy! Property was nice for sound!
L. J.
Lovely venue for live performance, every seat has a good view, although there is not much space in front of the seats in the tiered section.. only ever niggle is the queues.. for the bar and toilets.. always very long !!
C. A.
Have visited before but went today to see/hear Keith Luckey singing and playing guitar and we were well impressed, thanks Keith. We had a meal too which was promptly served was very well presented tasty and excellent value. Staff very pleasant too, we will certainly be back again.
J. D.
Lovely staff, fab performance
L. P.
Only been for lunch but would love to return as it's a nice place with a friendly atmosphere. Well-priced healthy lunch options and a large space for sitting and chatting. Carly, who took our order, is a real asset as she made us feel very welcome.
G. A.
Great place to visit! Loved the acting. Also we saw Jack and the bean stall. Lots of funny references, the one about Gainsborough upset my mum haha. Still very funny, and a plane?! Very much enjoyed and will probably return.
S. D.
We went to the pantomime which was jack and the beanstalk, it was fantastic, we laughed so much will be going next year. The venue and staff were helpful. Smaller than the theatre royal but the atmosphere was great.
W. B.
Went to see Gary Delaney, nice medium sized theatre, probably best to get in the tiers to the rear, (some of the stalls look a bit flat, especially if you get larger person in front of you).
Bar and food available.
L. f. a. g. s.
I used to work in the cafe at the drill Hall so was nice to go back and see a performance. The place and faces hasn't changed much since I worked there 10 yrs ago which isn't a bad thing as they are all warm and welcoming. And the performance was really well put togeather and a joy to watch the kids faces light up. Will be visiting nxt year. M
L. B.
Came to see the Prom at Lincoln Drill Hall. It's a fabulous place and we used the cafe bar for a late breakfast and then lunch. Really good value food and drink.
The Prom was brilliant too.
We travelled from Derby and it has been a very worthwhile day out.
L. W. (.
Good facilities and the only place in the city with adequate changing facilities for disabled children. The cafe food isn't great but they have some really good events on for all ages. Well worth checking out for kids and adults.
N. F.
Great performances here. Seats not too uncomfortable. Friendly staff. Can highly recommend the termly new youth theatre productions. Very talented young people
C.
Always enjoy watching the performances by the youth theatres. Plenty of other entertainment options on offer judging by posters.
Parking in Lincoln is a struggle unless you are happy to walk from one of the multi-story car parks though this is only around a 10 minute walk.
P. E.
An absolutely fantastic evening with Russell Watson.........this such a brilliant venue, and we HAVE to save it. Pledge a brick for only £10.00 per annum and let's keep it going!
A versatile venue and city centre location.
A. P.
I went there for the 2018 CAMRA beer festival. I found a really well repurposed building with some striking retained architectural features. Normally I believe it is used as a theatre and the auditorium has tiered seating that can be retracted to leave an open hall space. There is a spacious reception area and a cafe/bar. The toilets are very well maintained and equipped. Altogether this building is a credit to its owners and operators.
G. C.
Went to the Didi Disco here on Saturday and met up with quite a few friend's with their children. There were crafting activities at some tables for them to do throughout the session, and my Grandson loved the disco too.
D. P.
A friendly cafe bar, with a chilled out atmosphere. Great coffee and an excellent choice of snacks, all very reasonably priced. I wish I had discovered this little gem sooner.
J. A.
We went to the Saturday music in the cafe. Had very nice food and thoroughly enjoyed the entertainment. There are two musicians performing each Saturday. Well worth a visit.
G. R.
Great night at the Red Herring comedy club (Lincoln Drill Hall) last night. Definitely worth a visit if you've not been before. Micky P Kerr was hysterical. Haven't seen him before but would see him again. Other comics had their moments too so if you get the chance to go then do.
Tiered seats are best I think. Bar available and you can pre order for the intervals and take your drinks through.
L. E.
Best morning sarni I've had
A.
Brilliant theatre and the Panto Jack and the Beanstalk was so much fun the best bit was the Red Arrow. The set and prob makers work so hard. Great actors too. Cannot wait for the next panto.
P. C.
Saw Cinderella with family, lots of fun & laughs throughout. Only concern was seats didn't feel quite securely mounted. Going back in Feb for La Voix.
M. B.
Just been to see Peter Pan, which was good. However, Jack & the Beanstalk was better last year. The use of sign language was a very good idea this year. The grandkids had a great time. Will be back next year.
S. L.
My daughter and I had a lovely evening on Saturday listening and singing along to WALK LIKE A MAN . This is the second time we've seen these . Thoroughly enjoyable show and would highly recommend them .
T. S.
Great venue for the vegan festival we attended. Good use of space and a lovely meeting room upstairs. Staff very helpful and friendly
M.
Beautiful little theatre. Youth performance of les mis was amazing.
Well worth a visit or just pop in for coffee and cake. Car park right next door what else could you want ?
T. B.
The ambience of this theatre is magical with interaction with the actors a real possibility. We always book the annual pantomime to reaquaint with the slap stick on offer from familiar actors. The bar is well stocked too, from gorgeous milkshakes to half time drinks ordeted pre show.
M. S.
Visited two years on the spin for the Drill Hall panto - perfect both years (Jack and the Beanstalk and Peter Pan). Wonderful entertainment for the whole family, who comprise grandparents, parents, a teenager, a seven year old and a five year old - strongly recommended!
M. P.

A. S.
Great place to chill out in the cafe. Tables or comfy chairs. Sometimes live music. Food and drink. Very accessible. Disabled toilet. And it's also a theatre! 😁👍🏻
L. W.
Lovely venue, great facilities. Son visits for Butterfly club, he has a great time. Although a tad noisy for us oldies!
K. E.
Excellent venue. Small but we'll formed. 5 minutes or less from parking, good facilities and in the city centre for visitors.
A. G.
Lovely venue and entertaining and informative talk from Lucy Worsley. Only disappointment was we ordered interval drinks but they were not ready at the time
A. T.
Nice little theatre, not allocated seats good view. where ever you sit, but seats not very comfortable a bit hard so take your cushion .Cafe and bar

Watched Les miserables on Sunday matinée absolutely fabulous, from the professional set, lighting, sound and technical side of things, the (amateur) cast of young perfumers produced a professional, well directed performance prompting a well deserved standing ovation.
J. J.
Great venue, lovely and friendly staff. MY little one and I very much enjoyed the performance.
M. J.
I like going to panto here. The only problem this year was having to wear mask as it was very hot in there

There aren't a lot of art centres in Lincoln so the drill hall is very precious for performers and the arts sector, The Drill hall is lovely, the staff are very friendly and its great place to be.
